Thank you all for the excitement and interest in the Ford & Mabel bonding comic! :D I’m excited to share a story we desperately need. Or at least one for sure. Not too sure how many pages there is going to be but I know for sure it’s not going to be super long like Instinct is. Which leans into the next topic.

I know some are wondering what the state of Instinct is in. To answer probably the most important question: Instinct is not canceled. We are too close to the end of it for me to cancel it. The layout of the next pages is giving me trouble since they’re mostly dialogue heavy (that and brain wants to draw other things). But it will continue hopefully sooner than later!

Mirabel Madrigal & Creativity:

So something I’ve realized after watching the movie a couple of times now is how mirabels story can easily correlate with the experience of someone creative when you’re only considered of use if you’re academically smart.

Not only do they refer to the magic as “gifts” and “gifted” very common terms associated with people who are considered academically smart but also the fact mirabel is shown as an artist. Our first introduction to her you see her room is plastered in artwork as a 5 year old and even after the prologue you still see she’s kept her artistic side. the thing is mirabel is incredibly talented she draws, she sews, she embroiders, paints, plays the accordion too! These are all incredible talents to possess and yet do we ever see her getting praised for them in the movie? not really. because mirabel doesn’t have a “gift” a literal magic gift yes but also could be interpreted for a creative as academic smarts. Creative thinking is something mirabel possesses and its quite literally the answer in the end but because she’s not smart in the expected way i.e academics she feels she’s not worth as much as others in her family.

I like to think making her an artist was an intentional choice as I know a lot of fellow artists have had people tell us it’s not a “useful” skill to have in the real world. It’s not worth taking the time doing when you could be pursuing medicine or law or something that uses your brain. Even in the ending of the movie mirabel tells them they’re “more than just your gift” which I feel can relate a lot to people who heavily rely on their academic achievements they can forget it’s ok to not do 100% every time and these ridiculous standards are just wearing you down.

So in conclusion I believe mirabels story resonates a lot with the experience of being a creative person but your skills not being seen as valuable. I just love that they made mirabel an artist to show how talented she actually is! she shows that creatives are valued and appreciated and needed and deserve to be encouraged not shot down! so thank you mirabel valentina rojas madrigal for being my favorite artist <3

How did Tucker and Sam first find out about phantom? Was it just that some weird ecto shit was going on nearby and Danny sorta changed without trying to and all, and Sam and Tucker just kinda saw it going “what the fuck-“/silly

Okay and an add on to that, has anyone ever seen Danny change that shouldn’t have, since if he can’t really control it in this AU, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some close calls because Tuck and Sam found a way to cover him

Seconds after Danny leaves for the restroom, a ghost (the Lunch Lady) shows up. In the panic, Sam and Tucker run to check if Danny's okay. Or just generally, get his low blood sugar, close to passing out butt away from the danger zone.

As to how they find out? They rush into the closest restroom. And kinda see the idiot(s) passed out on the floor mid-transformation 👍

I fiddled a lil with the timeline so now the au is kinda no one knows? But Sam and Tuck find out the second the first big bad ghost shows up. In the Dannys' defense, neither of them had any idea what was happening.

Actually... not really? Since Danny and Phantom have Tucker and Sam to cover for them and the two are at Danny's side 24/7, pretty much no one has seen them transform. Wes is the no one.

It actually kinda scares me how I'm not the only one who struggles with creating art. I feel like most artists I follow here or elsewhere just kinda struggle. This, or the algorythm just swallows them up for me to think nobody draws anymore. Just once in a while I see a drawing again and it makes me super happy to see that at least someone is faving fun. I try so hard to get creative again and draw my characters and actually start my projects that live 95% just in my head. It's just so damn hard...

Just ramblings about how this came to be and shit:)

I never made this type of thing before (which is probably obvious), and while if I gave myself more time it could've been better, I also love it for what it is and what it represents.

I kept thinking how the lines

made no logical sense if I took them literally because how would you see and absorb someone's beauty when you can't see anything in the dark?

Like I said, very literal and also stupid... BUT it kept coming to me and reminding me of how the singer of Plavi orkestar never noticed the illogicality of writing the following lyrics in a same song (Bolje biti pijan nego star):

žao mi je što smo bili samo dobri drugovi

&

vino ne zna da smo nekad bili sretni par

(wine doesn't know that we used to be a happy couple)

So to try rewiring my brain I started thinking about all the metaphorical interpretations for those lines and suddenly this is all that was there:

You're at a concert. Singing your lungs out or just swaying to the music. You can feel the end near and sadness kick in. And you pray. To whomever you do or don't believe in, you pray. For the energy not to die down. For time to stop. To get just one more song. To be here just a little longer. To exist in a warm happy bubble. You pray for the lights not to turn on.

Because when they do, it all vanishes like magic. As if it was only a magnificently crafted spell. You're not sure whether it feels like slow motion or fast forward. And from being surrounded by dozens or hundreds or thousands of people, you go to lying in bed alone. You're not one with the people or the artist or the music anymore. The world is too quiet, and you're just... one. Alone with yourself.

From there, parts of this little artsy edit started popping up in my head with no invitation but much determination.

Them touching fans' hands.

Feeling each others' energy, inspiring each other to set the rhythm and dance together.

Small venues where you're packed like sardines and all you feel is sweat, warmth, bodies and the beat.

Crowd acting drunk and a little crazy even if the only thing they're consuming is music.

Us falling in love with them. Them falling in love with our appreciation.

Them touring wherever they can. Fans following them wherever we can.

Locking eyes with them for a split second. The distance and differences between us disappearing while the music connects us. We're light and heavy and empty and so full at the same time.

Please, don't turn on the lights yet.

Does anyone know the name of that one art style that mixes cartoonist things and then throws in pictures of irl things too? And there's usually some sort of vhs effect. I've been trying to find what it's called for forever now. Im obsessed with it and I want to evolve my own style to be more like it. I especially love when it's more creepy/unsettling. It looks like these. I just really wanna know if there's a name for it

Been thinking about what all the characters have been studying at the Academies and a little of what they do out with school.

Phen: On the Humanities track in Naranja focusing on art. Carries out Champion Rank tasks for Ms Geeta, works on art pieces in Brassius' studio over breaks.

Arven: On the Humanities track focusing on hospitality, works part time in Cortondo as a chef.

Nemona: In the General Studies track with a focus on Battle Studies, is being mentored by Geeta to become the new Top Champion.

Penny: In the STEM track focusing on computer engineering and works as a League engineer as "punishment" for Team Star.

Giacomo: In the Humanities track with a focus on music and sound engineering.

Mela: In the Humanities track focusing on art with an interest in cosmetology particularly makeup artistry.

Atticus: In the Humanities track studying theatre, fashion and textiles. Goes to Porto Marinada to auction off his designs.

Ortega: On the STEM track with a focus on mechanical engineering. Also helps Giacomo with writing music and has played the piano part for some tracks.

Eri: On the Humanities track in hospitality but hangs around the theatre classes to help with her wrestling performance. Runs the wrestling club in Naranja.

Carmine: Was in the General Studies track at Blueberry with a focus on history. As such she got the attention of Ms Briar and acts as her assistant while now studying part time to aid in Briar's research.

Kieran: In General Studies with a (unhealthy) focus on Battle Studies with his grades in other subjects slipping. Hasn't returned to Kitakami since the field trip- the memories hurt too much.

Crispin: In the Humanities track focusing on hospitality and will eventually take over his family's restaurant after he graduates, so has also been studying business.

Amarys: In the Humanities track focusing on psychology and art. She hopes to become a psychologist, using art therapy with her clients when she fully qualifies.

Lacey: In the General Studies track and is highly adept in Battle Studies and business. Toys with the idea of taking over Clay's Gym but hasn't fully made up her mind.

Drayton: In the General Studies track allegedly if he went to his classes. When he does he excels in Battle Studies and history, and could have also been Briar's assistant if he applied himself. Will take over his grandfather's Gym when he graduates. Maybe.
