#artists want to be credited

I would like to see people stop condemning unsourced algorithm-generated images solely for being algorithm-generated and at least start demanding the source, too

Because whether you like the technology or not, if the image is good enough to withstand a casual glance and not immediately scream "fancy math made this!", then that means someone put effort into getting it to that point, and, again, whether you think that effort qualifies as creativity or not, they deserve to get credit for it

I've also noticed that most of the images that have people in the notes pointing out that it's ~AI art~ are photorealistic images, often of rooms or clothing

the fact that people are willing to let photos, interior design, and clothing design go uncredited without question, and they only get angry when it turns out to be algorithm generated, is really not a good look, y'know?

Images deserve credit, always, regardless of how much you may or may not value the tools it took to make the image

Again, this is not about whatever you may think of algorithm generated images and the way people use them, it's about sourcing images, no matter what those images are

and, yes, this is lingering irritation over that photoset of cute house-shaped purses that had been reposted without credit for so long that it was not possible to find the originals in a reasonable amount of time, although I did find a lot of similar purse projects from a decade ago.

Just because someone's art isn't the kind of art you like or make--or approve of (like algorithm-generated images), or even think of as art at all (and I'm specifically talking about sewing here, although photography definitely goes around unsourced a lot, too)--that doesn't mean they don't deserve to have a source attached to the image

And, one more time, because this is Tumblr: This is not about what you think of using algorithms as tools to generate images, this is about sourcing the images--any images--at all.

(So, like, anger at the idea that the algorithms get their statistical data from images without crediting those images should be accompanied by anger at seeing a human post unsourced art, right?)

Am I the only one who will be discouraged with interacting with any type of media if it has a picture made by AI with it??

Like I can love a concept and want to check it out but if I see it has been attached to a picture of AI by OP I just won't touch it. I won't check it out or even give it a chance even if I really want to!?!??

ANYWAYS!!! Guess who recently finished the EVA franchise minus the rebuilds and has been in a horrible chokehold over it, this anime ruined my life but hey at least its intro theme is nice……

Well, I wanted to draw some stuff for it! All together these pieces took exactly 48 hours and 20 minutes… with the cover-piece taking ~35(?) of those hours. These were… very, VERY time costly safe to say LOL,,, I am super, SUPER proud of how the cover came out though, everything on it was drawn, colored, rendered, edited, whatever, BY HAND stroke by stroke (as you can see below)

The text, the lineart, the shadows, the colors, the snowflakes on the bio and Shuri, EVERYTHING was done by hand, it was horribly time costly but it did come out very, VERY well in the end I would say (fun fact! I also didn’t originally have the textless version of the cover, and I had to trace all of the lineart for bio’s tophalf by just guessing what line when where and what the hell was going on /silly)

this was a very, very hard project to do all together, but it was also a really nice learning experience too, I’m happy i did it that’s for sure :3!

I'm thinking abt that pretty fall leaves embroidery pattern post and about how like... it is categorically a repost, it's a reupload. right? a thing that is generally disliked. but because it's credited, it's genuinely boosting the artist in question. and it could ALWAYS be like this. reposting content could ALWAYS be a symbiotic relationship, but because sourcing back to the original creator of something is so uncommon, it's just easier to ask people not to repost it at all. and people still don't understand the difference. or they'll go to the effort of cropping out usernames/signatures to repost something, which is More Effort than literally crediting the creator of something you liked enough to want to repost. Like. I literally don't actually care if my own shit gets reposted, you have to understand. I just don't want it STOLEN. But "do not repost" is easier to write on my art than "you can repost this, but don't alter the image/remove my signature, don't you dare write 'credit goes to the artist' because that is not credit, please link back to my original post or someplace that you can actually find me. please use an actual link/url instead of writing a non-clickable link of my username, because making it text instead of a clickable link cuts the number of people who will go to the effort of visiting my own page in Half." All those aggregate themed accounts, those fuckin annoying as hell instagrams and facebook groups that are like "body positive art we love wamen 💕 hashtag feminism" and then MASS-STEAL plus sized art created by women, if pages like these that always go and steal my older self-portraits and other works... If they just put a link to my prints of those pieces in the text of those posts, or, fuck, my commission info page? I would literally be living on the moon right now. I would have a house on the moon

Okay. Fellas. Real talk. I've seen some of you do it and I thank you profusely for doing so but can yall PLEASE credit the original artist of that piece yall kinda made into an a dtiys/art meme? That's not official art. I am point blank refusing to engage with any of these pieces that I see not doing such. (Even when it pains me to keep scrolling, because some of them are really good!! And I want them here!!! But I do have some rules for myself I try to stand firm by with this blog.)

Like you can literally see them say right there that it's fine IF YOU CREDIT. I'm fucking begging you.

I'm not mad at anyone who didn't know but I've seen SO MANY versions at this point, and I think I've seen maybe 3 or 4 of them RECENTLY include the credit. (And one with improper credit, I think?) Please. Please just. Tack it on.
