Hello friends! I don't usually write very long posts but there's something important I want to talk about: Over the past few years, I have developed a certain style and social media presence (especially on Tumblr) that has been influenced by many people and things. Ultimately, it all comes down to the "art hoe" movement (@arthoecollective). I also follow many blogs who have gained their "aesthetic" from the art hoe movement. What I feel is important to share as a white person with a decent social media following is that, as many of you may already be well aware of, the art hoe collective was founded BY queer people of color as a creative platform FOR people of color. My style, my interests, and my passion for art have stemmed from a movement meant for POC to have an outlet for their creativity and artwork. This movement has lead to so many young artists getting the recognition they deserve, which is especially important considering artists of color, particularly those in the LGBT community, despite having so much talent and work ethic, are often overlooked. Instead, others gain more recognition for their style and art. Others who, let's face it, may have been inspired by the art hoe movement themselves. It's unfair. Those who pioneered a movement for creative people of color, with such iconic style and original art, are often in the shadow of people who reap the benefits of the art hoe movement even though it wasn't created for them. What is important to understand is that you don't have to stop liking art, change your style, or stop acknowledging the art hoe collective if you aren't a person of color. However, if you are like me, and you have been inspired by the movement, you MUST give credit where credit is due. Sometimes you need to ask yourself, "Is my voice louder than that of those who inspired me?" People need to know what the art hoe collective is and why it's important. If you, as a white person, have benefited from the movement, you can use that privilege to bring awareness to artists of color who are more than deserving of the recognition, and show people where your inspiration came from. It's really crucial to the success of artists of color to understand what the art hoe movement represents and how it helps People of color. Please acknowledge the movement! I have so much respect and admiration for the art hoe collective and I wholeheartedly support its purpose. And you should too.

Hello friends new and old! Thank you so much to all who have voiced support for #TheIsisNicoleMagazine. Print media has been a great respite for the IN team at this time, and we’d like to provide that peace to our growing audience at a low price while simultaneously benefiting our creative community. With that in mind, we are raffling off our most recent yearly edition, Issue #8 featuring cover stars singer/model/curator Anajah Hamilton and Korean actress Jiwon Uhm! The FW 19/SS 20 issue features 170+ glossy, colorful pages full of diverse voices and their personal journeys. We’d like to pay it forward by uplifting our friends at @arthoecollective. All entries toward the raffle will support their microgrant initiative. AHC is currently providing direct aid to black and brown people in the form of $100 microgrants. To Enter: Please Venmo $10 to @TheIsisNicole along with your Instagram handle and preferred cover star in the description.
Every Venmo transaction is one entry. Winner will be chosen at random this Friday, June 19th. 100% of the proceeds will be donated. Entries only valid in the U.S. We will cover shipping costs.

Make Up Apparently I smile Like my joy is made of tears Teeth wide, never seem sincere You criticise me Because I can't drape myself in plastic Like snake skin and shed When the opportunity presents itself You present yourself Reinvent yourself When a new opportunity arises And you Could never be brave enough To be honest To leaf through the layers Of your reflection in the mirror; It's not about wiping your eye shadow away It's about digging deep Deeper within the crevices of yourself To see the foundation Of your skin For the first time. - T'afari Steede 📷 @poetic_evocations
