ATTENTION ARTISTS OF TUMBLR
since tumblr is going to start scraping blogs to train ai be sure to glaze and nightshade your art!! Not only will both of these programs protect your art from being copied but nightshade also poisons any ai that tries to steal it
here is some more info on these tools and where you can download them:

A new tool lets artists add invisible changes to the pixels in their art before they upload it online so that if itâs scraped into an AI training set, it can cause the resulting model to break in chaotic and unpredictable ways.Â
The tool, called Nightshade, is intended as a way to fight back against AI companies that use artistsâ work to train their models without the creatorâs permission. Using it to âpoisonâ this training data could damage future iterations of image-generating AI models, such as DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion, by rendering some of their outputs uselessâdogs become cats, cars become cows, and so forth. MIT Technology Review got an exclusive preview of the research, which has been submitted for peer review at computer security conference Usenix.  Â
AI companies such as OpenAI, Meta, Google, and Stability AI are facing a slew of lawsuits from artists who claim that their copyrighted material and personal information was scraped without consent or compensation. Ben Zhao, a professor at the University of Chicago, who led the team that created Nightshade, says the hope is that it will help tip the power balance back from AI companies towards artists, by creating a powerful deterrent against disrespecting artistsâ copyright and intellectual property. Meta, Google, Stability AI, and OpenAI did not respond to MIT Technology Reviewâs request for comment on how they might respond.Â
Zhaoâs team also developed Glaze, a tool that allows artists to âmaskâ their own personal style to prevent it from being scraped by AI companies. It works in a similar way to Nightshade: by changing the pixels of images in subtle ways that are invisible to the human eye but manipulate machine-learning models to interpret the image as something different from what it actually shows.Â

HOW TO GLAZE YOUR WORK WITHOUT A GOOD PC(or on mobile)/TIPS TO MAKE IT LESS VISIBLE
Glaze your work online on:
Cara app. It requires you to sign up but it is actually a good place for your portfolio. Glazing takes 3 minutes per image and doesn't require anything but an internet connection compared to 20-30 minutes if your pc doesn't have a good graphic card. There IS a daily limit of 9 pictures tho. Glazed art will be sent to you after it's done, by email. It took me 30 minutes to glaze 9 images on a default setting. Cara app is also a space SPECIFICALLY for human artists and the team does everything in their power to ensure it stays that way.
WebGlaze. This one is a little bit more complicated, as you will need to get approval from the Glaze team themselves, to ensure you're not another AI tech bro(which, go fuck yourself if you are). You can do it through their twitter, through the same Cara app(the easiest way) or send them an email(takes the longest). For more details read on their website.
Unfortunately there are no ways that I know of to use Nightshade YET, as it's quite new. Cara.app definitely works on implementing it into their posting system tho!
Now for the tips to make it less visible(the examples contain only nightshade's rendering, sorry for that!):
Heavy textures. My biggest tip by far. Noise, textured brushes or just an overlay layer, everything works well. Preferably, choose the ones that are "crispy" and aren't blurred. It won't really help to hide rough edges of glaze/nightshade if you blur it. You can use more traditional textures too, like watercolor, canvas, paper etc. Play with it.
Colour variety. Some brushes and settings allow you to change the colour you use just slightly with every stroke you make(colour jitter I believe?). If you dislike the process of it while drawing, you can clip a new layer to your colour art and just add it on top. Saves from the "rainbow-y" texture that glaze/nightshade overlays.
Gradients(in combination with textures work very well). Glaze/nightshade is more visible on low contrast/very light/very dark artworks. Try implementing a simple routine of adding more contrast to your art, even to the doodles. Just adding a neutral-coloured bg with a darker textured gradient already is going to look better than just plain, sterile digital colour.
And finally, if you dislike how glaze did the job, just try to glaze/shade it again. Sometimes it's more visible, sometimes it's more subtle, it's just luck. Try again, compare, and choose the one you like the most. REMEMBER TO GLAZE/SHADE AFTER YOU MADE ALL THE CHANGES, NOT BEFORE!!
If you have any more info feel free to add to this post!!

ai has no fucking place in fandom. none whatsoever. even if youâre âjust using it for feedbackâ or âjust using it for promptsâ or âjust using it to help with writerâs block.â and if youâre using it for research? why on godâs green earth would you use the Lying Machine to do research???
all art, whether written work, paintings, drawings, anything, is a fundamentally human creation, and by using ai to create âart,â you are stripping the humanity from something inherently, intrinsically human
fanfiction and fanart and any kind of fan creation are borne out of a love of the original media and a passion for creation. there is no reason or need to supplement that passion and creation with gibberish from the Plagiarizing Machine
nobody expects perfection. it is the imperfections that make it beautiful, that make it raw and rich with humanity. this is a community that exists because of a shared love for something.it is built upon our own creations. ai generated content threatens its very foundations

FireflySummersâ Guide to Arguing Against the Use of AI Image Generators
(AKA I hate AI image generators so fucking much that I published a whole ass academic article on it)
Read the Paper: Art in the Machine: Value Misalignment and AI "Art"
Citation: Allred, A.M., Aragon, C. (2023). Art in the Machine: Value Misalignment and AI âArtâ. In: Luo, Y. (eds) Cooperative Design, Visualization, and Engineering. CDVE 2023. Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 14166. Springer, Cham. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-031-43815-8_4
The purpose of the original paper and now this post is the following:
Provide at least one academic article that you can cite. (Full paper + citation available below)
Make explicit community values that have previously been implicit, in order to better examine your own perceptions of the online artist community, and where you sit within it.
Provide rebuttals to common pro-AI talking points, with the intention of shutting down the conversation and reclaiming the narrative.Â
What this paper and post cannot do:
Act as a sole authority about the online artist community and its values. We are not a monolith, and it is up to you to think critically about what, exactly, you want to take away from this discussion.
Provide a way to convince AI Evangelists that what theyâre doing is wrong and bad and needs to stop. You will never convince them. Again, focus on shutting them down and reclaiming the narrative.
Final Disclaimer: I'm a very fallible researcher who is still very much learning how to do academia. I cannot speak for the entirety of the online artist community or fanartist community. We all have different lived experiences. I have done my best to include diverse voices; however if you have concerns or critiques, I am open to hearing them.
If you show up to debate in favor of AI image generators, you will be automatically blocked.

If you have read this far, thank you very much. I hope that you have found a constructive lens for approaching the war with AI image generators, as well as a new tool for shutting down debate and reclaiming the narrative.

I did not just find an Etsy store using AI fucking photos to sell amigurumi patterns
What bullshit is this??!??

Please ignore my tabs I need those but THERE IS NO WAY this isn't AI. Here. Let's take the worst one I found and dissect it.

Like,,, okay. Just try following the line of yarn in front of the poke ball. It splits off and attaches in ways that yarn doesn't. There are completely detached circles of yarn!! What even is that metal thing?? I've been knitting and crocheting for a decade and I don't know what that is. Why is the yarn wrapped around a jar?!
Is there anything I can do about this? I just feel bad for whoever is gonna buy that sonic the hedgehog pattern (which was NEARLY ME) and gets totally ripped off. Bc if you have to use AI to sell your pattern, something tells me that the real pictures of the pattern's results aren't going to look right.

Hiya!
So we all know that AI generators like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL.E, Sora.AI, etc. have stolen the work from artists online to train their AI and since AI is starting to get quite scary, I've decided I'm going to start protecting my work via Nightshade, but I want to also talk about it with you and link to the official sites to Glaze and Nightshade, so you can get either of these programs to try.
First off, we'll start with Glaze AI.
What Glaze aims to do is to act on the defensive against AI. Glaze will scramble their generators by placing a âprotective glazeâ over your work, and what this will do, is when your work is fed into the AI, it'll trick the AI into thinking your work is something entirely different from what it is, simply by making small changes that only the AI will pick up on
To quote the official site âGlaze is a system designed to protect human artists by disrupting style mimicry. At a high level, Glaze works by understanding the AI models that are training on human art, and using machine learning algorithms, computing a set of minimal changes to artworks, such that it appears unchanged to human eyes, but appears to AI models like a dramatically different art style.â
I've tried using Glaze, but it's a very big program and my computer can't handle that, but I do highly recommend trying it out if you have the space for it.
If you wanna try it out, the link to the site can be found here.
Second is Nightshade.
Nightshade is aimed to âattackâ the AI your work is being fed into. Like Glaze, Nightshade puts a protective âglazeâ over your work, but it poisons your work and tricks the AI into messing up the user's prompt.
To quote the official site âNightshade works similarly as Glaze, but instead of a defense against style mimicry, it is designed as an offense tool to distort feature representations inside generative AI image models. Like Glaze, Nightshade is computed as a multi-objective optimization that minimizes visible changes to the original image. While human eyes see a shaded image that is largely unchanged from the original, the AI model sees a dramatically different composition in the image.â
This program is also pretty big, but it's what my laptop is able to handle, so from here on out I'll be protecting my work with this. I'll also go back and protect my older works even if it's not as appealing as my newer works.
If you wanna try it out, the link to the site can be found here.
Keep in mind, these are only temporary solutions while we wait for more permanent ones.
But even if it's temporary, it's better than having no protection against the AI bros.

âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸â ď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸AI ACCOUNTS ARE STEALING PEOPLEâS WORKâźď¸âźď¸âźď¸â ď¸âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸
I was scrolling through tumblr and noticed some very familiar art popping up with no captions at all, so I checked the 3 profiles these posts were coming from. 2 of these accounts had similar names, and I can say for sure that 2 of them had ai generated profile pictures and descriptions. I know that 2 of them also had the same exact descriptions. These accounts have been spamming stolen sonadow themed artâ they arenât reposting them, and they arenât credited. When I try and report them, google keeps saying thereâs an error. It might not work on iOS and I donât have access to a computer. (Also, 2 of these account names have âcrushâ in them, and all of them have â02â at the end, so be on the lookout for similar named accounts.)

These are screenshots I took of these accounts showing up in my âtagsâ feed. If anyone can, please report these âpeopleâ. We donât need tumblr turning into the new facebook, with half of the stuff on the platform just being Ai generated slop.
