The comments your guardian made about college and your grades were starting to get to your head. You couldn't even go shopping with them without being harassed by "You need to get your grades up" and "You need to get college plans in order"

You didn't want to start a fight in public, so you stay silent, ignoring their words.

"Go back to the freezers and get me some pierogis please, I forgot to get them while we were back there"

You nod, turning around to walk back to the freezer aisles in search of a blue bag of the potato and cheese filled dumplings. The usual facade of niceness your guardian put on after basically yelling at you was usual and tiring. You didn't even understand why you had to be here with them. You just wanted to lie down and cry.

You're able to locate the familiar, large bag after a solid 3 minutes, the store having relocated some items since your last visit. You didn't know which size your guardian wanted, and you were already stressed and overstimulated. You feel your eyes well with tears as you do your best to logically think and hold them back, but you fail.

Silent droplets of tears fall from your eyes, which you quickly wipe away. You stand in front of the freezers, feeling more lost than you ever have, somehow.

Your hands tremble as you shove them in your pockets, pulling your phone out to text your guardian, informing them you were running to the bathroom quickly and would find them back at the bakery section. You shove your hands and phone back in your pockets, walking back to the bathroom at the back of the store, your head hung low.

You quickly speed-walk to the back, face flushed as you hold back your tears. You feel weak, but you feel overstimulated, some sort of justification for your actions. You almost run into someone as you turn down the video game aisle, stopping dead in your tracks to let them pass as you mumble a sorry.

The person looks down at you, they stand a solid six feet tall, wear a plain black shirt covered by a jacket, colored medium grey with red sleeves and a red and white striped collar, paired with some black cargo pants and sneakers. They have short, brown hair, which looks halfway fried from thermal tools. They also wear a black cloth mask, hiding half of their face. They were probably about your age, just very tall.

"Are you okay?" They ask, pointing out your watery eyes and nervous stature like you were about to explode.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm good" You nod, looking away, "Sorry for getting in your way"

Wow, that's awkward.

"It's fine. Uh, are you sure?" He asks, "You look like you need a hug." He looks at you with a calm look, eyebrows slouched as he looks with a little bit of worry before he realizes how it sounds. "I swear I'm not a creep, just an empath or something"

You lightly chuckle, "Can't believe I'm about to accept a hug from a stranger in the Walmart video game aisle."

He opens his arms up, inviting you into the warmth. "My name's Ranboo"

You slightly smile, wrapping your arms around their torso. "Y/n. Thanks, Ranboo"

You barely cry, but your stress is relieved, at least.

"You're too pretty to cry, okay? You're strong and awesome, and I don't even know you" They speak, rubbing your back a bit.

You smile, "Thanks"

After some small talk, you thank the boy, and share information to maybe stay in touch, which you'd definitely use to apologize profusely for this whole situation when you properly recovered from the embarrassment. You walk back to the freezer aisles after waving goodbye, leaving him to walk towards the arts and crafts aisles.

Maybe some strangers aren't so scary.

Do you have any recommendations for other Hollow Knight artists to follow? Some of the folks I knew of don't really do HK art anymore so I'd love to add some new ones!

hmmm let me see. there are a lot of artists i follow who to my knowledge still make hollow knight stuff (some more frequently than others), and if you want a more broad list, you could try browsing through my reblogs and looking at the timestamps of the original posts to see which ones were posted recently

but if i had to choose some off the top of my head... @duskydrawings is my mortal enemy (affectionate) and an amazing artist, she does some absolutely incredible art, as well as really funny doodles that brighten up my day every time. @hollowbananer and @hrng are my two other good friends who may not post very often, but still make have really cool and adorable stuff you may want to see. @ded-lime and their pk art is in big part responsible for my love for the character, and i could stare at the drawings all day, very inspiring stuff. @slimeel does some incredibly atmospheric art and i adore its style so much, top notch hollow related art if you're looking for that. @notthesaint makes really wonderful studio ghibli inspired drawings and a lot of nosk content, their passion for that weird critter is unmatched. @hornet-mylove draws some of the most aesthetically pleasing hornet (especially baby hornet) art i've seen, i really love their artstyle. some other artists that are worth checking out are @lizbot, @rizrice, @blindspothk, @fruitjellyforbugs and @poppy-purpura, they all have very unique styles that i enjoy a lot!

i really hope you all don't mind the tags. and any of you do that do, i'm sorry, feel free to gang up and beat my ass in the walmart dairy aisle hahaha

but jokes aside, go check out their stuff if you haven't yet, anon! there's some really amazing art you can find there, these wonderful artists deserve all the support in the world

I miss Zombaes Forever so much.

My first was She’s Shady last July after having seen those coffin-shaped boxes in the doll aisle for a while. Cringily, my first thought the first time I saw them was “pah, Monster High ripoff”.

Not everything spooky-themed is a MH ripoff, 9-months-ago me.

Anyway! Funnily enough, I’m almost positive that box had been opened in store and put back. Her sticker sheet was missing and she was out of her little paper body bag already. She still had her character card though, and she was so cute!

Then a few days later I went back. The first series was running out of stock at the only two Targets I went to back then, so I picked up three of the second series instead. ✨ Wild Vibes ✨

I opened them in my car because I was pumped. It’s so funny I got the three beach themed ones all at once! She’s Got Bite was the first I opened, and still feels special. Her cracked goggles, little swim trunks, and one-eyed shark are great examples of the absolute best of Zombaes.

I picked up the rest of Wild Vibes over time, with liberal use of the codes. I never got the rare ‘Spacing Out’ though, which I’m still bummed about. I would go into Target very frequently to check, and anytime there was a So Chill (the one who had the same code as her), the box would be roughly open and rifled through. People really have no shame, though it definitely is frustrating that I ended up with multiple So Chill’s myself from all that searching 😅.

When I finally found a good Walmart in my area and started shopping there too a couple months later, I found they somehow still had a few boxes of series 1, so I ended up getting a Miss Everlasting and a Rock in Peace.

(I had to rubberband Shady’s parasol to her hand because she kept dropping it, as you can kind of see here)

It’s such a shame that this line seems to have been quietly canceled. I have the pet shop set and the bride-and-groom set now as well, and I hope to eventually get the other sets too as they lower in price. But there is such potential for more in these guys! They’re all so bursting with creativity and incredibly clever and cute designs. The art is so good, the collectible cards and little stands and coffin box, the little paper body bags you unwrap them from! They’re my spooky little zombie Polly Pockets, and Spinmaster can pry them from my cold undead hands.

And honestly, with Wild Vibes especially, the price was pretty good too. $9, and then $7, for all of that?? The big sets aren’t even expensive! Though maybe that was the problem in the end, along with people cannibalizing the displays as I saw all the time.

I did email Spinmaster’s media relations about a month ago to ask for any info they could give out, even though it’s a long shot, and I’ve not received a reply. In the unlikely event that ever changes I’ll update this post I suppose, but at this point I’m sadly considering these girls as dead in the water. It’s a tragic cancellation, but I’m really glad I got into the hobby just in time to experience them. And I absolutely love all of the ones we got. 💕

You can’t help but smile at the cliche. You tell him you’re just going to get groceries. He asks if he can come along, showing you his bag as well.

You go shopping, and he compares them to the shops in Russia, missing his home a little but also excited that he can get green apples year round at Walmart.

He’s charming, letting you enter anywhere first and holding the door for you. Making sure he walks in front of you to clear the aisle. Reaching things on shelves you can’t.

He’s old fashioned.

You thank him for everything, and he asks for your humber.

He texts you “good morning” and “goodnight” every single day.

You flirt at first. He’s cute in a gentlemanly way.

You don’t start getting serious until he takes you out one day, and give you diamond jewelry that he can’t tell you where he got it from.

You start to understand why he’s so sparse in his details of his background.

When he feels he can trust you, he mentions that you may not want to mention his name to any police. You take the hint but are understandably a little freaked.

He promises you that he’s not there for violence, and you take him at his word.

He takes you in classy dates; bookstores where you get coffee and read, sushi bars where he surprises you with his knowledge of world cuisine, and art galleries that he gets early access to.

You decide to surprise him for a change. You find out there’s a famous Russian pianist in town doing a small concert.

You take him, not telling him what you’re taking him to.

First song is Romance by Dvorak. There’s a violinist there too, and the piano and violin almost seem like they’re talking to each other. Like the romance is between them.

His eyes are closed for the first song, he’s transported back to his home in Russia, when shit wasn’t going sideways, practicing the piano for his mother. 🥰

He grasps at your hands, holding them for the duration of the concert.

He thanks you profusely afterwards, holding your hands, face in your neck, kissing it softly.

I'm going to explode.

My dad and sister took me to Walmart today so I could get something else and they took me to the toys section so I could get transformers figures and i didn't see the Earthspark Starscream figure I wanted but the second I saw deluxe Megatron I punched the damn box and my sister laughed, then we went to the tech section and got Mr some art supplies and when we were about to leave she asked why I didn't get the figure i wanted, which we saw in target but I had a gotten a G1 bumblebee Lego set, and then took me back to the aisle and dead ass pointed at the Deluxe Megatron figue and asked, 'Isn't it that one?" And I stared at her before yelling 'No! THATS MEGATRON! You saw me punch his figure earlier!" And she was like 'oh before pointing at the transformers one Orion pax... I slapped her, then my dad caught up to us, I showed them the image of Earthspark Starscream and his figure and they dead ass pointed at TFONE Orion pax, G1 Ratchet, and Earthspark Megatron. I fought with them for 5 minutes explaining they weren't Starscream. We moved down the aisle and saw the TFONE section and i saw TFone Starscream and said it's that one but also not that one. Explained the differences and they stoll didn't get it.

I ended up getting DeLuxe Earthspark Megatron...
