Update 21 has been released! Last public upload was pretty much a year ago so, I'm very sorry for the long silence, a lot of the updates have been mostly in the private testing phase on Patreon, but I am here with a bunch of fixes and hangout updates.

I'll be completely honest, when I started Breach 2 I knew it was going to surpass 1 million words. I just didn't think it would take this long. Through numerous challenges, both in writing and in real life. Through numerous ups and downs, I'm absolutely surprised and grateful to know that there are people out there who still support me. I've had many thoughts, numerous times, to give up and move on to other things in life, but I didn't want to disappoint, so I kept writing.

I bring to you, the 1 million milestone update. It's really not much, but it is one step closer to completion. This update has been in the works for the past 6 months mostly due to the weapons rework and also story changes for the crew members that I apparently couldn't keep track of without a giant excel spreadsheet. This update finalizes the Archangel's Gamma Crew hangouts, which is Kaz and Carly's hangout as well as Anna and Charlie's hangout.

As before, they share the same storyline so they will both share the same hangout. If you choose to go out with one, you cannot go out with the other. Kaz shares it with Carly, and Anna shares it with Charlie. Keep that in mind. Oh, and there's 7 new guns to play with. Have fun, Ian.

This update does not include the new Chapters. Chapter 3 will still be Patreon exclusive until Breach 2 finishes and I can send the demo to the public testing, and to CoG for the full release.

I really cannot reiterate how grateful I am to have an amazing array of readers and supporters who are still here after numerous hiccups and fuck ups. Thank you all, so very much.

(It's about to be August so that means the Hot Topic is putting out Halloween items. Take Phantom there STAT!!!! Also yes I'm aware Sweden doesn't have a HT, but luckily this is fanfic where anything can be real of I try hard enough.)

"If you could have anything, what would you have?"

It was a simple question, Phantom's face scrunching as he thought, scratching his cheek before looking up at Aether with a giant smile. "I want a new nosferatu shirt! My old one got ripped, remember?"

Aether shrugged in agreement, offering his hand which Phantom took. Papa had recently been given permission by the higher-ups to take his ghouls out for 'enrichment time' he called it, noticing their ever-so-slowly growing anxiety as tour got closer. It was another change to being back around venues when they just got comfortable being home again. So, here Aether, Phantom, and Dewdrop walked around the mall together while the rest of their mates had scattered around to other areas.

Phantom's eyes stayed lit up the entire time, looking around each window view in each store with such genuine curiosity. He's been around stores and humans plenty of times, but it always amazed him at just the amount of new things that seemed to be around every corner.

Dewdrop stood on the other side of Aether, holding his other hand and humming to himself as they walked to a specific store. Phantom's eyes caught it first, gasping and suddenly ripping away from Aether. His hands went to the the glass, smile so wide that the other two were positive if Phantom had his tail still—it'd be wagging like no tomorrow.

"Aether! Dew!! Look, look, look!" He began to jump up and down, tapping the viewing glass. "They have a Michael Myers hoodie!!"

The elder quintessence only nodded, gently shushing Phantom as his tone was a bit too loud. "Yeah! Want to go in?"

"Please, please?"

The sheer joy that overtook Phantom as Dewdrop nodded, his own smile showing. "Go ahead, bug. We'll be right behind."

He gave another squeal before running in, Aether and Dewdrop exhaling before looking at one another. Dewdrop pulled his wallet out first, taking his wad of saved krona out, quietly counting to himself before sighing one more time.

"I have six-thousand... You?"

Aether was quick to follow, mumbling to himself as he counted. "Ten-thousand."

"Ohh, Mr. Moneybags over here." Dew teased, lightly elbowing his mate.

"Yeah, yeah." The quint rolled his eyes. "Since I'm not traveling I don't spend much anymore plus the pay raise for full-time infirmary."

"You know they're going to give us the biggest puppy eyes, right?"

"Oh, I'm very aware." Aether chuckled, leaning down to gently cup Dewdrop's cheek to pull in close for a kiss.

They stayed interlocked, Aether dragging his hands down Dew's blonde hair. When they pulled back Aether felt the fire ghoul nip his jaw, patting his shoulder as he finally began to walk in.

"Just make sure you have enough! You still owe me a dinner date." Dew teased.

Inside the store, their eyes locked onto Phantom as he held a giant wad of clothes but now looking at jewelry. As he smelled his mates, he quickly turned and smiled wide, back to bouncing again.

"They have Scream necklaces!!" They chirped.

"Yes, the movie, not you." Dew poked his nose, taking the wad of clothes from Phantom's hold. It was a giant array of hoodies, long sleeves, shirts, and even pajama pants. "Dear Lucifer, Tommy. What happened to all your other clothes?"

The ghoul simply blinked, his ear giving a small wiggle. "You happened to them."

Aether couldn't help himself as he busted out laughing, cupping his chest as his nose crinkled—Dew's face slowly turning pink before grumbling, knowing Phantom had a point. The bigger of the three coughed before catching his breath, wiping a tear from his cheek.

"Oh that's bloody perfect." He chuckled again.

They began to browse together, Phantom getting distracted as he noticed more crystal jewelry only to walk away as Aether explained they weren't real. While Dew had separated momentarily to look for his own band t-shirt, Phantom continued eyeing the stockings near the clothing rack. He picked out one that had a floral print on white, his ear gave another wiggle before ultimately placing it back. They turned to see Aether touching over a velvet dress, specifically in a small, eyeing the price tag and picking it up. He looked over at Dew, back to the dress, then the little bat next to him.

"Hey, Phantom?" He asked, showing the dress. "Think you could find some cute garters to match this?"

Taking the challenge, Phantom kept his eyes peeled onto the body decor, shuffling through different designs and colors before pulling out black laces. "What about these?"

"Ohh! Those are perfect!" Aether pressed a kiss to Phantom's forehead. "Thank you! Think you're about ready?"

With a nod, the two moved over to Dewdrop who met them halfway, standing in line. As they approached the checkout, Phantom pulled out his coin purse that he had crudely shoved his money in, laying down a hundred and seven krona. He still hadn't fully grasped the concept of money, quickly being saved by his two mates that equally contributed. Two-thousand later, they walked out holding multiple bags just in time to see Sunshine and Mountain walking up, giving their own waves.

"Hey!" Aether gave a smile. "What did you two get?"

Mountain shrugged, showing his single bag. "Just got a new pair of pants."

Eyes turned to Sunny. "I didn't want anything, really! Just glad to get out of the abbey. Oh! But I seen Swiss and Rain by the—" She didn't see Aether and Dew discreetly shaking their heads frantically. "—Crystal store."

Dew rolled his head back while Aether sighed, Phantom lighting up again. "There's a crystal store?!"

"Damnit..." Aether whined, before glaring at Sunshine playfully. "I'm sure Sunny would love to take you! Isn't that right?"

It took the Ghoulette a moment to process before cursing under her breath, before offering her hand to Phantom who quickly grabbed it. "Not at all."

Dew held a smug look while quietly flipping her off, receiving one back as she placed her other hand behind her back.

First meeting

"Marco!", the clown called out from the entrance.

You watched in amusement as Quiet and John crawled across the floor, exchanging silent curses as they desperately searched for a hiding spot. Sneaky and quiet wasn't your style and the clown intrigued you far too much to even consider hiding.

"Polo!", you shouted, leaping onto a slot machine while flashing a wide grin at the clown.

Sweet Tooth blinked in disbelief at your reaction. Usually people were scared, desperately trying to hide, run away or, the most fun ones, trying to fight him. But there you were, sitting confidently on that blinking machine, the most beautiful smile painted across your lips and the genuine spark of joy in your eyes that drove him almost mad. There was this pressure in his chest, slowly spreading until it transformed into a swarm of butterflies, fluttering around his stomach until he felt nauseous.

"Are you...", he paused for a moment, unsure how to proceed, "are you here for the show?"

"Oh I love a good show!", you hopped off the slot machine and strode towards him, "show me what you've got big guy. I'm sure it'll be a blast."

Sweet Tooth burst into loud laughter and casually rested his machete on his shoulder before gesturing you to follow him.

"You're gonna love it!", he chuckled, guiding you towards the stage room.

First kiss

You and Sweet Tooth jumped out of the truck and darted around in zigzag patterns to avoid getting struck by lightning. You stormed first through the door of an abandoned mall, with the clown close behind, both of you gasping for breath and laughing.

"Damn Watkins storm came out of nowhere", you huffed, looking around the dusty abandoned entrance, a forgotten relic of happier times.

"Yeah", he chuckled, patting your shoulder gently, "let's explore this place. Ain't much else to do while the storm's raging."

You nodded and both of you ventured deeper into the labyrinth of corridors and shops.

The interior of the mall was a nostalgic playground, frozen in time. Broken mannequins and shattered glass scattered across the floors, adding an eerie charm to the atmosphere. You squealed in excitement as you stumbled upon a toy store and, unable to resist its allure, you ran through the door giggling. Passing through shelf upon shelf, stacked high with colourful playthings, Sweet Tooth's eyes gleamed with delight, his playful grin beneath the mask widening as he observed the array of toys before him. He grabbed a rubber duck from a nearby shelf and pretended to get attacked by it. It was a brutal battle and the clown clearly was no match for the almighty yellow menace. He collapsed to the ground with a dramatic groan, coughing a few times as his hand extended towards you before his body went limp.

"Oh no", you cried out overdramatically, "I simply cannot allow my favourite clown to perish. I must save him!"

You could hear him chuckle and your gaze wandered to his mask, an idea crossed your mind. You felt the heat rise to your cheeks as your hands reached out to gently push up his mask just above his mouth. The gasp that escaped him was instantly silenced by your lips meeting his in a sweet unexpected kiss. His arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you on top of him into a tight hug. You broke apart and pulled his mask back down, chuckling as you gazed into his brown eyes filled with loving tenderness. There, surrounded by remnants of a forgotten world and bested by tiny rubbery perfection in the shape of a duck, Sweet Tooth and you had shared your first kiss. And it was, naturally, evident that the rubber duck, whose actual name turned out to be Bob, would come along and have its very own designated place on the truck. After all, Harold would require a steadfast companion in the event that neither of you could be around.

First gift

It was a deserted funhouse in the middle of nowhere, you had to stop and explore. You deemed it an unspoken law and the clown certainly didn't disagree. As you dashed around the first corner, vanishing into the mirror room, Sweet Tooth stopped in the entry hallway, his gaze fixated on a claw machine. The glass enclosure, which held the toys inside, was partially shattered, and perched just above the opening was a stuffed plushie of Kuzco in his llama form. A few weeks ago, you had mentioned that it was your all-time favourite movie and it being right here within reach had to be a sign. He needed to get it for you.

Sweet Tooth placed Harold on a small chair next to the machine, giving the old paper bag an annoyed look.

"Don't worry, it'll be a piece of cake", he waved Harold's worries off and kneeled in front of the machine.

His right hand disappeared into the narrow opening, pushing upward and cautiously peering through the cracked glass as he attempted to inch closer.

His fingers wriggled, almost grazing the soft black fur of the llama's mane. A groan escaped his lips as he pressed his shoulder against the cold metal, attempting to extend his arm further up. Just as his fingers finally grasped the plush toy, he felt a cold metallic object brush against his skin and when he tried to pull away, he realised that the item had become entangled in his leather harness.

"Ah shit", he muttered, squirming but unable to free himself from the machine's grip.

His eyes shot up towards Harold and he huffed at the old paper bag.

"Don't give me that look. I'm not stuck... well, okay, maybe I am stuck."

Sweet Tooth let out a long sigh, stretching his legs to sit somewhat comfortably on the dusty ground while he waited for your return. He chuckled at the thought of how you would react when you saw him in this predicament. A big guy like him, dressed up as a clown, sitting on the dirty floor, arm shoved up the claw machine next to him, clutching a llama plushie. He didn't even get the time to wonder how you'd react when your loud laughter reached to his ears. Your gaze immediately fell upon the metallic hook securely attached to the leather harness, and it dawned on you that he must have been trapped. As you walked around to face him, still giggling, you noticed his arm disappearing into the machine's opening.

"Oh, are you stuck?", you asked, grinning from ear to ear.

Sweet Tooth rolled his eyes before giving you a long pleading look.

"Could you lend a hand to a clown in need?"

You bent down and unhooked the harness, offering your hand to help him back on his feet. He pulled his arm out off the machine, strong fingers wrapping around yours as he got back up. He then held the little lama plushie up, offering it to you.

"This is what got me into this...trouble", he chuckled, "I remembered that it's from your favourite movie so I had to get it for you."

Your heart fluttered as you caught sight of a blush creeping up to his ears and you accepted the plushie, clutching it tightly in your hands.

"Thanks, Sweets", you whispered, leaning your forehead against his chest.

His arms snuck around your waist, drawing you into a tight hug.

A converter beast is exactly what it sounds like- a creature engineered by Phyrexia to assimilate and convert enemies and captives on the fly, the collective’s ultimate goal of conversion of flesh and eradication of culture manifest in a single squamous form. Creatures swallowed by the converter beast are trapped in its cage of bone and drenched in choking phyrexian oil, their flesh and minds slowly corrupted into phyrexian soldiers of compleation.

Converter beasts are ill-equipped to work alone, however, with their blindsight limited and their minds dull and obedient. Most frequently they are accompanied by a huntmaster, a phyrexian ranger trained to thrive in whatever environment they and the converter beast are assigned to. Notably, huntmasters are frequently converts from the populace and region they return to besiege, one of the highest ranks such a phyrexian can reach without having been born a newt or sculpted from scratch. It is the role of these huntmasters to guide them to suitable prey and keep their instincts leashed when the time does not call for it. The beasts, for their part, are obedient servants who know better than to challenge their master’s commands.

Some converter beasts, however, are simply dropped into their environment with no such commander. This is done when subtlety and precision is unneeded, as an unleashed converter beast is just as likely to convert a target as it is to shred it with its tails and jaws.

This large, lizard-like creature has an array of spikes forming a thick cage on its back and a tail that splits into three lashing segments. Swallow Whole (Ex)- A converter beast can hold 4 medium creatures, 16 small creatures, or 1 large creature in its stomach. Additionally, if a creature breaks free of its stomach, that does not free any others and it can still use its swallow whole ability, as sharp trapping horns erupt to fill any gaps. If a creature is brought to 0 Wisdom by a converter beast’s swallow whole ability, it makes a DC12 Constitution check. If it succeeds, it removes all damage and gains the Phyrexian template. If it fails, it is rendered unconscious as usual.

I get it. Structural analysis is scary. It's a lot easier to handle the thought of Shooting Down A Bigot than it is dismantling the patriarchy. Especially when the patriarchy is familiar to us all, existing within it as we do, and there's certain aspects of the patriarchy someone might even enjoy. The problem here is a structure held up through interlocking systems of racism, classism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and intersexism. And we want to spend our time and energy arguing about what descriptions of expressions of transphobia are Valid and slinging shit at other people under the boot of transphobia. I'm so thankful to you, Velvet. I'm sorry so many people want to insist that community discussions Can Only Happen Their Way, and especially sorry that they respond to any sort of "hey maybe not" with vitriol. But I'm so grateful that you're still standing up and bearing the brunt of the backlash for those of us that are locked out of these discussions by not having the constitution to handle arguments like this. 🩷🩷🩷

Danny Phantom - Worm fusion

Or well more of a “parahumans AU” of Danny Phantom; pretty much the only thing from Worm is the parahuman power stuff rather than the specific characters/locations being explicitly included. Basically “what if Danny Phantom involved Capes instead of ghosts”

Btw the links throughout this are generally to the wiki pages for things in case anyone is unfamiliar with anything. Or the general wiki links are here (DP) and here (Worm)

Jack and/or Maddie Fenton previously triggered and gained Tinker powers due to their ongoing obsession with trying to prove their scientific theories (which could be about ghosts or be something more Worm-y (e.g. potentially involving alternate earths or trying to find the origin of parahuman powers)).

Those new powers certainly didn’t improve the chaotic nature of their lab, but it did allow them to make far more complex devices.

The biggest of which is in the form of a portal. It’s taken a lot of work to create, but they’re hopeful that it will finally prove them right now that they’ve completed it. Finally make all the hardship they went through (enough to hardship to trigger) worth it.

…Except it fails. They plug it in, and nothing happens.

Well, nothing yet…

Later, their son Danny takes a few steps into the portal frame on a dare, and his hand knocks against a panel on the wall. A huge burst of electricity surges through the structure as a rift tears through the air.

Right on top of his fragile human body.

Energy courses through him as his vision is filled with the impossible sight of countless dimensions, of the near-endless expanse of space, and of gargantuan creatures spiraling through it all.

And then he collapses, the memories of what he saw slipping away from his brain as his new powers settle into his body.

(His parents, if they are nearby, see the visions too. The sight feels familiar, even if they can’t remember why. But any further consideration is shelved when they realize the portal is on.)

More misc thoughts about this idea beyond the cut:

I figure this’d be a setup that leads to getting a Trump power, since the trigger directly relates to another parahuman’s powers. Plus, a Trump power that allows for a bunch of different facets would align with his array of ghost powers from the show.

Specifically, it’d probably fit the “Infinity/Ten” subtype of Trump; those are caused by triggers that involve “a power breaking reality in the vicinity.” I think an unstable portal being opened on top of you should definitely count for that.

…But then idk how one would design a power of that type well. The description of “Power sets nearly limitless in both option and choice” feels hard to design for in a way that isn’t too OP, even with the “but where other large drawbacks often apply” caveat. Mainly from like, the word “limitless” interfering with my ability to tell what restrictions are reasonable.

��although. The subtypes are’t meant to be strict in-universe guidelines; I could just rebalance it based on ideas from other Trump power types that I find easier to conceptualize and it’d be fine even if it’s not “objectively correct” for the Infinity type.

Heck even if I felt that need to strongly justify it, the situation fits pretty close to triggers for the “Four” subtype (power sets that are limited to a few usually weaker/clunkier power options). His parents were obsessive tinkers; powers would have been a factor influencing his life for a while.

Also, outside of Trump power stuff, a Breaker state would make sense to fit closer in line to his ghostly nature from the show. Not 100% sure if that’d fit his trigger, but whatever. Maybe could just argue that the portal mucked with his senses/thoughts enough to justify an intertwined mental aspect of the event, idk.

…oh I just had an idea for what the actual power could be!

What if he has to be in his breaker state to use powers, and he can only select which powers to use at the moment of transformation? Meaning he has to choose his powers before he enters any fights and likely stick with just them for the duration of that fight.

Limits could be imposed based on what he chooses (e.g. if his powers are weaker the more he has active) and how he switches back and forth (he’d have to deactivate all of his powers to swap any out and maybe he has to recharge them before he can access them again, leaving him vulnerable in the meantime).

Might want to limit his power options too (unless just limiting the strength of the powers would be enough), but idk what a good rule for that would be. Like it could just be an arbitrary list of options I guess, but something more distinctive might be interesting. Maybe he has to experience something similar to a power before he can use it? Idk.

Also, outside of his powers, I’m not fully sure how one could best work in an equivalent to the ghost fights from the show. Like they could absolutely just be other capes in Amity Park, but I feel like it’d be cool to connect them to Danny or the portal somehow.

For some possible ideas for that, I guess:

They could have been in a cluster trigger with Danny (as long as the other triggers could be reasonably justified to have coincided with the portal activation)

The portal could have let some Eden material leak through, causing some people in the area to randomly gain powers (and probably mutations too) after consuming anything contaminated

If the portal is a unique phenomenon (e.g. if the straight-up Ghost Zone is included on top of the Worm stuff), the Shards could be incentivized to create more triggers in the area or prod existing hosts towards Amity Park to create more conflict and help them study it

If the portal leads to another world (or periodically connects to multiple other worlds), they could just be “regular” capes but pulled through from there

It wouldn’t be related to that portal incident, but if Vlad Masters was a power-granting Trump (akin to Worm/Ward’s Teacher), the ghost-analogues could be his empowered minions sent after the Fentons

…or they could just still be ghosts I guess, but I’m trying to lean this more on the Worm side of worldbuilding things than DP.

And some even more one-off random thoughts:

The GIW would just be a government-backed group akin to the PRT. Heck they could just be replaced by the literal PRT and Protectorate if it’s meant to be a full-on fusion with Earth Bet

If the portal is causing Eden material to leak through, Amity Park might end up evacuated/made into a quarantine site.

Instead of being given tech by Vlad like in the show, Valerie Gray’s situation could be reworked into a trigger event, with her probably being a vigilante afterwards (like as opposed to joining an actual hero team). Or if you wanted to keep the “given powers” thing in a slightly more directly parahuman-y way, she could get a Cauldron vial (maybe one supplied by Vlad to keep more similarity with the show). (though that would require including Cauldron in the fic too, at least in the background)

Skulker could be a Deviant/Case 53 who is similar to Trainwreck

I guess the implication of Fenton Works existing would be that Jack and Maddie are rogues who are open about their identities

Which could connect to why Danny is hiding his powers from them - unlike the original show, he has no reason to fear them taking the reveal badly, but he could want to keep his cape and civilian identities fully separate and thus not want to tell them lest they reveal it to the public
