Day 17 of Doodling Tolkien!
Low motivation day, so here’s a lil Kiliel doodle whilst I battle it out with the next comic page!
Tumblr media
They go to the same music school, and Kili is head over heels, completely inconsolably, wretchedly crushing on his stand partner.
She thinks it’s funny :P
I have another doodle started of two nearby violinists, which happen to be one concert master Legolas Greenleaf and 2nd chair 1st violin Fili Durinson, and their mutual revulsion (albeit for different reasons)

Summary:
“Legolas belongs to the stars and the forest, the rivers and the moon. Thranduil and Galeniel require an explanation. Or: asexual, aromantic Legolas Greenleaf.”
My heart ❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭

In addition, in the appendices of LotR, Tolkien specifically says that for Dwarves, not all women take husbands, in part because some desire none, and "very many of the men also do not desire marriage, being engrossed in their crafts."
As for The Silmarillion, just off the top of my head, there are two Valar (three if you count Morgoth) who are not mentioned having married in the text, and who do not appear to have desired marriage.
It’s aro week, and even though I still don’t feel like I fully have a handle on what aromaticism is, I do get the impression that The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings fit well with it? because all the main character’s most important and most central relationships aren’t romantic ones.
Bilbo is considered odd (“queer”, even) in the Shire for being a lifelong bachelor; his close relationships are with dwarven and elven friends, and with his adopted son Frodo. Frodo shows no romantic interest in anyone; his close relationships are with Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, and later Aragorn. And the later relationship with Frodo, Sam, and Sam’s wife Rosie all living in Bag End - which is specifically proposed by Frodo - seems like it fits the definition of queerplatonic? Whether or not you see Legolas and Gimli as a couple, their closest relationship is clearly with each other. Merry and Pippin also seem pretty clearly the most important people in each others’ lives, and remain close withtheir friends in Rohan and Gondor even after returning to the Shire. Boromir’s almost canonically aroace, going by the appendices. The close friendships between Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are prominent, while the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen is relegated to an appendix. Most members of the Fellowship (6/9) do not get married or ‘fall in love’ in any traditional sense (and of the remaining three, one - Pippin - is only noted briefly in an appendix). The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings both have the characters’ relationships with each other - and the importance of valuing and cherishing those, not possessions or power - at their heart, and almost all of those relationships are non-romantic ones.

i thought this might be fun
did anyone else grow up having a lot of swishes or smushes or just general forms if of unlabeled attraction which made it really hard to realize they were aromantic? i’ve been making a list of them (some are pretty funny) going all the way back to childhood the one that i find the most funny which was really just liking her vibes was the shadow in the wall from bear in the big blue house, the one from childhood that i think made it the most difficult to know i’m aro was probably the ice princess from shark boy and lava girl or Legolas from lord of the rings, which looking back all of these swishes or like vibes that i liked had nothing to do with romantic attraction lol does anyone else have any of these types of attractions that they find funny or that were confusing?

prompt me for things!
So! Aspec Arda Week is coming up in a week and a half, and my very own Sigriel Week is at the beginning of October, so that means, of course, that I am begging for prompts and ideas yet again! Those of you whose prompts I didn't get to for Writers' Month or any of the other events, I will try and see if I can work any of those in, but if anyone fancies prompting me for any of the following that would be AWESOME:
For @aspecardaweek:
DAY ONE: Asexuality || Discovery, Confusion, Education DAY TWO: Aromanticism || Acceptance, Loneliness, Pride DAY THREE: Across the A-Spectrum || Hope, Complexity, Diversity DAY FOUR: Worldbuilding || Community, Change, Family DAY FIVE: Relationships || Companionship, Intimacy, Queerplatonic DAY SIX: Intersectionality || Connection, Relief, Friendship DAY SEVEN: Freeform || Love, Vulnerability, Identity
The characters I usually headcanon as aspec are Legolas (demiromantic and demisexual), Gimli (asexual and alloromantic), Pippin (aromantic and asexual), Elladan and Elrohir (complicated but basically aroace) and Sigrid (aromantic and asexual), and pretty much everyone else I write is probably somewhere on the spectrum, because I myself am very much ace. :D
And for @sigrielweek (come and follow us!):
Monday 7 October - beginnings (did they meet for the first time when Tauriel and Legolas chased the Orcs into their home - or before? | the attack on Lake-town | how do they meet in an AU? Tuesday 8 October - getting to know you (do they hit it off straight away or does it take a bit longer? | on the lakeshore | first steps towards friendship - or more? Wednesday 9 October - we're in this together, we have separate paths (journey to Dale/Gundabad | in an AU, is there an age difference/background difference? |how do they reconcile the differences between them? Thursday 10 October - crisis and aftermath (Battle of the Five Armies | loss and grief | supporting each other) Friday 11 October - someone really special (realisations of feelings | getting together | a special place in each other's lives) Saturday 12 October - getting away from it all (what does a day with no responsibilities look like? | what do they do for fun? | what part do their families and friends play in their lives?) Sunday 13 October - afterwards (does Tauriel stay in Dale? | happily ever after - or not? | does Sigrid inherit the crown instead of Bain? | what does Tauriel do after Sigrid dies?)
(guess who is incapable of being concise in any way, shape or form XD )
Although I usually headcanon Sigrid as aroace, the one person I make an exception for, with her, is Tauriel, so I am happy to write them as platonic, queerplatonic or romantic. :D
