Prompt:  Aromantic Simmons is confused/annoyed about all the romance happening around the base as Valentine’s Day approaches. Her queerplatonic partner Fitz decides to give her an aromantic Valentine’s Day.

Jemma rounded the corner, heading down the corridor to the lab. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Nathanson standing by the door, attaching a poster of sorts to the glass window. She narrowed her eyes and walked with determination towards the other agent.

“What are you doing?” she barked, a bit more impatiently than strictly necessary.

Nathanson’s head shot around, his wide eyes nervously glancing back and forth between Jemma and the door. He gestured at the poster with his thumb. “Put—putting up the posters for the Valentine’s party.”

Jemma squinted in confusion, taking in the pink and red hearts on the poster and the fine calligraphy font, indeed announcing a S.H.I.E.L.D. Valentine’s Party. She pointed at the poster, staring at Nathanson. “Has this been authorized?”

“Umm,” Nathanson muttered. “Yes. Director Mace—”

“Ugh. Mace. Of course.” Jemma rolled her eyes, sighing in discontent.

What do you think the characters that are confirmed queer or you interpret as queer would do for pride?

Joey Gutierrez: (I haven't seen the Joey episodes in a while, so I have to actually think since I haven't seen him in forever). I think he'd go to pride with a date and go somewhere more quiet afterwards with his date. But all month, there would be lots of fun with friends and family, lots of drinks going around, overall a good time.

Peggy Carter: I don't know what was done in the '50's to celebrate not being queer, but I can see Peggy doing whatever that is. Mostly, I see her celebrating in a more private matter at home or something.

Valkyrie: Lots of alcohol, pre- or post- destruction of the valkyries. Hopefully even have a drink with a special guy or gal.

Ayo: I don't know how Wakandans celebrate pride, but I feel like Ayo would be involved. I also think the Dora Milaje would do stuff together.

Loki Laufeyson: Would go to pride but be more quiet. I imagine MCU Loki isn't very open about it yet, but he'd go to support others as a "cishet" (haha we all know that ain't true) ally. With the few people that know, he'd maybe do something with them at home or something.

Bucky Barnes: Bucky would be EXCITED to be able to celebrate being queer openly, since that wasn't really a thing in the '40's. He'd go to pride all decked out in rainbows, with a bisexual flag and a grey asexual (or just asexual flag; I've never seen grey ace flags but they got to make them, right? But maybe they're harder to come by) tied around his neck like a cape.

Wanda Maximoff: whatever traditions Sokovia had, she would do those! Lots of lazy days with Vision, who is also queer. She would have a crap ton of flag related clothing since she's abrosexual. One day, she could be wearing her denim jacket with the abrosexual, aromantic, and asexual flags sewn on. Another day, she could be doing pansexual make up and wearing black boots with pan colored laces. And some days, she only wears her abro flag necklace, because those are her heterosexual days.

Lance Hunter: goes into work with a bisexual flag wrapped around him like a shawl. He gets compliments from all the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. One person even told him she thought she was bi, but wasn't sure, because the flag let her know he wasn't queerphobic. Coulson does nothing to stop him. As long as he gets his job done, Coulson couldn't care. Hydra doesn't know what hit them when a tiny, snarky British guy in all black except a bright bisexual flag defeats several of their men.

Daisy Johnson: Daisy does her make up as pride colors every day. She switches off between bi colors and demi colors. She's not normally one for make up, but this is a fun way of celebrating pride. She gets several compliments, and even does Jemma's make up every once in a while. She takes time off to go to pride. She notices a new trend of Inhuman queers banding together, and she absolutely loves it.

Jemma Simmons: tries to sprinkle the bisexual flag everywhere. Sticky notes in the lab, what pens she uses, her outfits, even the food she eats. She gets Daisy to do her make up occasionally too. Lots of fun stuff, just her and Fitz. She also gets Fitz, Hunter, Daisy, and any other queer agents that want to join to go do something fun together. They normally end up going to a bar or a bakery that sells cute pastries and will decorate them to look like your pride flag(s).

Leopold Fitz: Honestly, Fitz isdn't that enthusiastic about pride. He's queer always, why should everyone make a big deal out of it only 30 days of the year? But he does stuff with Jemma and the others because he likes to have fun with them and have queer talk with others.

Steve Rogers: This man will go to pride and stand in front of the hecklers. How can they say that Captain America is going to hell? He usually scares most of them away just by existing, with bisexual flag face paint on and Bucky standing next to him decked out in more color than Steve has ever seen him wear.

Hela Odinsdottir: Hmm this is hard. I don't think she'd do much to be honest.

Carol Danvers: Carol would use that thing to change her suit colors to either the rainbow flag or the lesbian flag. She'd fly over parades like a lesbian angel.

Peter Parker: He'd go to pride in order to support MJ. He either would be uncertain about himself or only out to Ned and MJ. MJ would tell him it's alright to be in the closet, and he could still go to pride and celebrate. So he did, supposedly to support MJ. He buys a shirt somewhere at some point with the bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, and polysexual flags with a saying about mspec solidarity.

MJ: She'd go to pride with Peter. She'd wear lots of pride pins. She'd be very supportive of Peter, and would buy bi pins to give him later.

Tess: There's probably not much they can do to celebrate on the Lighthouse, thanks to the Kree. Since records were erased by the Kree, I don't think she would know she is aroace or what aroaces are, so she wouldn't be celebrating.

Sam Wilson: He'd attach aromantic flags everywhere. His wings, on his boat, everywhere. When he becomes Captain America, he'll take over Steve's job of scaring off hecklers. Him and Bucky would do cute QPR stuff.

Mantis: She would be super cute at an intergalactic pride event. Someone (probably Drax) would come with her, but she would be adorable the entire time.

Nebula: She would kill homophobes.

Vision: Would have fun with Wanda. He'd become a walking queer dictionary. And would calmly explain about non-binaries when the "two genders" thing is ever said.

could be just me being aromantic again but I hate how fitz and jemma putting each other over the entire world is romantic and healthy. An obvious co-depenacy, plus, it's just... it's like they get to love each other so that makes it ok to be not only a shitty friend, but a shitty person. I'm not saying "he should have let Jemma die" but he can't apply that logic of "I love my friends and people around me so I did that" when it comes to what he did to daisy. Even in the framework, jemma does really dumb stuff for lOvE and THEN EXCUSES FITZ FOR HURTING DAISY LIKE THAT IN SEASON 5. it's so annoying. she just became "I love fitz" and like, nothing else after season 2 or early 3 ish. It's so painfully obvious that they put themselves above others. I know they "keep getting ripped apart" but that doesn't excuse shitty actions. they can be as annoying and sickeningly in love as they like and not hurt their friends, but after what happened in season 5, I'm just so tired of it. this wouldn't be acceptable if it was platonic so why does this romance get a pass?

Listen, I am a sucker for the “in order to save the person I love (or the world), I endanger myself” trope, because the idea of not being able to handle the person you care about hurting, and wanting them to live on, or be safe, or the idea of wanting to save people, at the expense of yourself is, while absolutely heartbreaking, actually something decent??? And heroic? I mean it’s bad in the sense of “why do you have so little self worth?????“ but at the same time, it’s understanding that sometimes there’s something bigger than you, and you could help many people. It’s not always about not having self worth either. You can have a lot of self worth but still recognize that a movement, or a decision can be much bigger than yourself and could lead to a better life for many, even if it’s at your expense, which is just unfortunate and horrifying. This trope has so much room for angst and pain and love, and I’m obsessed with it.

But that’s the key part. It being at YOUR expense.

With fitzsimmons, it’s no longer about that. It’s suddenly, “actually I’m willing to risk EVERYONE ELSE” to have you. To save you.

THAT is what infuriates me and makes me seriously roll my eyes when they go through terrible things in the later seasons and I’m expected to…be upset? Sympathize?

Like…sorry but a guy willing to risk his entire team, and THE WHOLE WORLD, and a woman who’s entire character ends up revolving around this guy, who also ends up wiling to risk other people for their “happily ever after” or whatever, they’re just…not good people.

The amount of times it’s happened too…

Like starting in s3, every season one of them makes the a decision like that. In the later seasons, they both mage those decisions during separate occasions in the season.

I’m still not over s7 where half the team were literally murdered by Enoch, because he was programmed BY fitz and simmons to kill. Like if it hadn’t been for the time loop, their team could’ve been literally dead. And for what? To protect their daughter?

It makes no sense and I’ve spoken about it before. If the team had died, their daughter still wouldn’t have been safe because the chronicoms would’ve won and either destroyed earth, or changed the past so that she wouldn’t have existed in the first place. Like??? They were SO stupid in s7.

Don’t get me started on Fitz deciding that abandoning 7.9 billion people to the chronicom problem (that would’ve led them all to die or be enslaved) after HE organized for that issue to be brought to their doorstep, was a good idea. And then when the rest of the team are like??? We’re not going to abandon them to die?? He’s like “that decreases our chances of succeeding to 85%”

THOSE ARE HUMAN LIVES YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT.

And Jemma in s6?

Daisy, Piper and Davis: “we’ve been in outer space for a year with hardly any leads. Davis has a baby son he never got to know, we should head back because we’re running low on resources, and if we stay here for much longer, we might not be able to get back”

Jemma: “well, even though Daisy is the leader of the mission and should be the one making the shots, and even though all of you have sacrificed a lot this past year to help ME, I’m going to spit on all of that and force you to accompany me further, despite our dwindling resources and all the risks, because I have a feeling I might find fitz, even though our journey has been useless so far.”

And it’s not until she’s drunk that she offers a ridiculously awful apology that Daisy accepts immediately.

She does the same in the framework. They all almost didn’t make it back to the real world, and almost DIED for good, because she once again, went against Daisy’s orders (it’s a pattern at this point, we should make a gif set. S4 vs s5 vs s6, simmons having zero respect for Daisy’s authority) for fitz.

It’s just frustrating.

To be fair though, while not the same, both Daisy and May did a similar thing at the end of s5 (which made me soo mad) but the difference I guess is that they did firmly believe Coulson would’ve been able to get to Talbot, and Robin, a girl who sees the future, implied Coulson was crucial to the whole “preventing the end of the world” thing. Still annoyed me.

Reasons Why Jemma Simmons is Aromantic:

Jemma Simmons is the brilliant biochemist SHIELD Agent played by Elizabeth Henstridge on Agents of SHIELD. I headcanon her as Aromantic, and this is why:

I first started headcanoning her as aro after season 3. There was a scene in episode 3x21, Jemma tells Fitz that she’s planning a surprise trip for the two of them. Fitz responds: “That’s a romantic gesture. How very...not you...to be romantic.”

In episode 3x19 where Lincoln has volunteered to test the antitoxin against Hive’s sway. Jemma is against him doing that and tells him that he’s “being a lovesick fool trying to make a grand gesture.” When Fitz comments that the testing could save Daisy, Jemma replies that “Daisy would never want someone acting so recklessly to save her.”

Jemma struggles with understanding why people in love make the choices that they do. In episode 3x09, she would rather be killed instead of Fitz choosing to go through the portal to stop Ward from torturing her.

When Fitz admits his feelings toward Jemma, it takes her an entire season to work out how she feels toward him. (Granted, there are extenuating circumstances with the traumatic nature of when Fitz revealed his feelings, and with his brain injury afterward.)

In episode 2x09, when discussing her feelings toward Fitz, Jemma states that she never thought of Fitz as anything other than her best friend, and that she can’t imagine her life without him.

In a deleted scene in episode 1x12, Jemma is offended when Skye implies that she’s never dated. Skye makes a comment about Jemma having had boyfriends, and Jemma replies " Well, not quite. I didn’t really find anyone that interesting, except Fitz. He was clearly the smartest one here.”

Fitz and Simmons’ relationship in season one is so clearly queerplatonic, I’m a little upset that they never named it as such. They’re introduced as “FitzSimmons,” another character calls them “psychically linked,” they have zero personal space boundaries with each other, and it’s clearly shown that they are not in a romantic relationship despite having known each other since they were 16.

TL;DR: Jemma Simmons is Aromantic, FitzSimmons are/should be in a queerplatonic relationship, and I will never change my mind on this headcanon, so don’t even try.

“Hey, I’m glad you told me,” Jemma said, noticing that you had been nervous. She rubbed your back with her hand before stepping back over to her lab bench. “If you want to talk about it, I’m here. I’m a good listener. And I’ve actually got a pin back in my room, I can give it to you next time we’re down there. If you want it, it’s from the academy friend.”

Thoughts on Daisysous ;

As much as I dislike last minute endgame ships squeezed into a final season I do think Daisy deserves a peaceful ending where she can finally have family and love. So I'm okay with this.

It helps Sousa was a pre-established character in Agent Carter so the audience already knows him. The writers didn't need to waste any time introducing him and could instead just focus on his growing relationship with Daisy to help sell the believability this could happen. Plus we as an audience already know him to be a good man and trust him, therefore allowing us to trust Daisy with him should they end up together.

And I like the writers chose Sousa because he isn't some irrelevant nobody, he was a main character in Agent Character and a huge fan-favorite. It shows they respect Daisy enough to not draft up some rando dude as a love interest. They gave her someone with his own relevance.

It also helps Daisy and Sousa actually HAVE chemistry. If they didn't this would all be very cringe and the shoe-horning romantic subplot would only be more obvious and perhaps even an eyesore to the audience.

I kinda wish that they could have brought back Robbie for this if the only purpose was to wrap up everyone's storyline and give Daisy an endgame. But they could have done a lot worse than Sousa. He’s up there for one of the better options, certainly better than Deke.

For people who think “Daisy doesn’t need a love interest to be happy, romance isn’t everything”, as an AroAce myself I have this to say: You are absolutely right! However Daisy is not an Aromantic Asexual character. She has been shown to be attracted to men. But throughout the show she’s been given almost no romantic options. She kissed Ward in season 1 and had a short-lived relationship with Lincoln. Both ended in tragedy and she was very hurt. Meanwhile most other characters have had better luck: Mack has Yo-Yo, Jemma has Fitz, May has Coulson. Yes those relationships are complicated and not always easy but the point is they existed for a good majority of the show, meanwhile Daisy had no one. As a fan of Daisy’s character I do feel cheated -- Why do all the other characters get longterm relationships and she doesn’t? Why do the writers put more thought and care into their romantic relationships than Daisy? Is all Daisy worth to them a supporting backbone to the other characters? She is a main character and has spent most of the show without a paramour, so as Sirius Black would say... I did my waiting.... Five years of it.... In Azkaban! 

The show is ending so let it end with her having an endgame relationship, as most certainly all the other characters will have. She deserves it just as much as they do.
