Technically inspired by @astralkepeire's Gijinka of the Dark World bosses from A Link to the Past. Tried my hand at making a gijinka of a Light World boss: Armos Knight.
It was nice getting back to my gouache paint after so long.

Fuck this guy!
I got 3 more hearts and a new sword and, he still demolished me like 5 times in 5 minutes.

Day 7: Mumbo
Here's Mumbo Jumbo! His goal its to understand and potentially fix the interesting constructs that appear on some of the islands! His ancestors passed down some similar constructs, so he also wishes to find out where they came from!
(This is based off of the fact that some of the enemies in Wind Waker, like the Armos, Armos Knight, and the boss Gohdan, look very similar to the Zonai constructs from Tears of the Kingdom! Maybe the Tower of the Gods was actually a Zonai tower? Who knows!)
Here's a link to the fundraiser!

just my type | leo valdez part one
keywords : leo valdez, riordanverse, canon x oc
writer's note : uhh yall ate up the idea of a daughter of hermes oc x leo valdez so mommy will feed u my children... i present to you absolute chaos and comedic relief couple. enjoy.. ship is very inspired by 'just my type - the vamps'
the sound of metal hitting against metal reached the girl's ears, making her eyebrows stiffen a bit as she made her way onto the real crime scene; all those awful sounds came from argo II being made; and although silena de leon, daughter of hermes; beloved half-sister of luke castellan really respected the cause, the sound made her absolutely cringe.
the raven haired girl almost tripped over a few tools that had been abandoned in the middle of the way, making her cuss under her breath and look down at her sneakers to make sure they were not damaged by some stupid leftover hammer. with a little shake of the head silena finally approached the curly haired boy who was, apparently, putting some wooden planks on the side of the boat, and also spaced out enough to not realize she was making her way near. he stood on the third step of a high ladder. "hey bob the builder; don't you want to catch a break sometime?"
leo looked down at the -surprisingly- shorter girl, and flashed a little smile. he lifted his arm to wipe some dust away from his face and nose with his sleeve and shrugged a bit. "if you are asking me to-" he gently threw the hammer on his hand aside, letting it fall on some spare nails, and stepped down from the ladder he was on. "interrupted your sleep again? sorry, i'll make sure to delay an entire quest so you can get a few more hours of naps" leo said with a little chuckle and leaned with one arm on the boat, his hand running through his curls pushing them back making silena watch in awe.
now, silena and leo didn't know each other long. for what it's worth, silena met him and percy through annabeth who she has known forever; given that luke set them up to be friends when sil arrived at the camp for the first time; and they actually did. but gods, ever since meeting this dam son of hephaestus she had been losing her mind. whether it was the back and forth signs and jokes, or the absolute denial that either of them would ever see each other in any way above platonic; something made her heart skip a beat whenever she was close to the tanned boy, that's all she knew; should have seen her face when he first laughed at her spaniard accent; any other person would have taken a punch but he just got lucky with a push.
"yeah, that'd be so sweet of you!"
leo gave her a death stare with a chuckle, knowing damn well she wasn't anywhere near serious.
"so if it isn't that, why pay us a visit?"
silena slowly walked towards the rope ladder of the ship, tugging on it . "just curious to see how the ship is going. very good apparently." she pulled herself up the rope ladder which instantly caused a reaction by the other, making leo rush to bring her down in case she fell.
"whoa whoa you know that's not tied well yet right?!"
sil sat on one of the rope ladder's thin steps, only a couple feet above him and chuckled, swinging her feet to show her winged sneakers. "why do you always forget valdez?"
the curly haired sighed a bit. " if you get all tangled up in the ropes these aren't going to save you-." he looked at her from below with that signature troublemaking smile that brought an aching on her heart.
"i know, but you will."
the boy let his suspenders fall from each shoulder and climbed back up on his ladder, finally reaching her height and being almost face to face with the blue eyed girl; his breath was always cut short when the two were this close. it was funny how after so long of percy and annabeth being sappy now annabeth teased these two like her life depended on it.
"although you're not exactly knight in shining armor material.." silena reached to wipe his forehead from some mechanical oil. " more like greasy armor.."
"you know what's funny, sil?"
"hm?"
"your back is touching my fresh painted planks-."
sil finally realized why her shirt was sticking on her back for the past minute.
"VALDEZ-!"

Bonds of the Knights pt.3
IM DONE FIGHTING THIS FINALLY
When the next door opened, Sky knew what it meant. The brown cart with designs he would know from anywhere. Then there was rubble and the hint of blue under it.
“A timeshift stone,” Sky explained. He and Warriors stumbled, hand in hand, to the cart.
“Those look like rails ahead.” Sky wished he could ignore the paleness of his brother’s face, but he couldn’t.
The poison had set in for Warriors some time ago, back when they fought Scaldera, their first boss together. It was obvious that he was trying to hide it. Only bracing his pains by squeezing his eyes shut it clenching his fists. He was trying to be strong.
Sky was no different. Colgera made him move too much. All of that twisting and turning.
But they needed to move. They needed to reach the end of this prison. No more games.
Sky took out his sword. “The timeshift stone reverses the space around it. I’ll show you before we go.” Sky thrust his sword into the blue stone and, immediately, the area surrounding it seemed to come alive. When the cart, now filled with an abundance of colors, started moving, Sky thrust his sword to the blue stone again. The new color around the cart vanished almost instantly.
“We have to follow it, I assume?” Sky nodded. Warriors groaned, but reached his hand out. Sky took it and put his sword to the stone like time.
The cart changed the small space, then it started moving. They followed it, their swords out. They cut down babas with ease. Keese went down like flies. That’s about where the grace ended.
Sky fought the strength of a lizalfos, he felt like he was losing, being pushed into the ground. Then it’s head was chopped off, he gave Warriors a nod, and they treded beside the timeshift stone.
There was a sound like something winding up. Almost like an Armos when Sky aimed the gust bellows at its crank. Then, Sky saw it. A dot colored a red darker than his loftwing’s.
Then it struck his mind. He remembered a story. The story Wild told about the beamos of his world. He called his beamos, Guardians. Sky leapt out of the way, his once tame headache turning to violent pulsing.
He heard the gentle tink and leapt for the cart the time-shift stone sat in. The ground under him turned into a chasm. Sky cursed, looking up at the cart.
“Hylia almighty!” Warriors jutted his sword into the blue stone. Grass lifted their bodies back to the surface. The crimson laser was on Sky’s chest again, he circled over to the side with Warriors. Soon, the Guardian turned back into old rubble.
Warriors grabbed Sky’s hand and found a tremble in his grasp. Sky squeezed Warriors’s hand, albeit weaker than he wished he could.
Ever since fighting that dragon, the ground felt farther than it was. He’d have to shake his head for the world to come back into focus. He knew something was wrong. He wanted to sit down.
Then they saw the end. It was as big as a boss door always was. For a second, Sky worried that they missed a hidden chest. They didn’t have a key.
Then Sky saw the lack of a key hole and sighed in relief. Finally, after slaying a few more bokos, the cart reached the door.
Sky looked over to his brother, noting the ever paleness of his skin, the bright rosiness of his cheeks, the way his hands trembled.
Warriors looked over to his brother, seeing the weak smile, the ever droopiness of his eyelids, the dullness of his eyes. He put his hand on the door and nodded. Sky followed suit. With only a little push, the door opened.
Sky saw blood first, then the bright blue tunic, then the long blonde hair, then the red suits dotting the floor, then the giant that stood in the middle of it all, covered in crimson from head to toe.
Sky gripped his sword tighter than he thought was currently possible.
“Captain! Holy Hylia, so much has happened!” The giant ran up to and gripped Warriors’s shoulders, his silver hair flying into Sky’s face.
“I woke up in chains! And he was there too!” He pointed to Wild, laying on the floor nearly lifeless. Sky took the opportunity to run to his little brother’s side. “These red men-“ Sky noted the bodies of Yiga. “-were trying to hirt us, so I…yeah…when I was doing my thing, they threatened to hurt the guy! I killed that one too, but he got a…hit in.” Sky noted the slice across Wild’s chest with gritted teeth.
Sky looked back, hoping to catch Warriors’s eyes, but-
“What do you say! You’ve reached your last boss room and therefore, the end of this mighty dungeon! All you have to do, is defeat this last mighty boss, the great Fierce Deity! Win and I give you three potions to save you and the others!” Ghirahim laughed over some speaker.
Sky brandished his sword. He didn’t care that this was some deity! He did care that his brother was probably bleeding out.
Sky’s teeth bared as he met the deity’s eyes. “Sky, wait! It’s-“
“His blood is on my hands, isn’t it?” Fierce pushed Warriors away. He plopped on his butt with an ‘oof’ Sky couldn’t see anything in the god’s eyes.
They were blank, figuratively and literally.
Sky felt the rush once more. The rush of seeing something bigger than you, the rush of it coming to kill you, the rush of knowing that you will kill it and you’ll kill it somewhere around now.
Sky stood on his feet, the drowsiness flying out of his system. His adrenaline pumped vigorously. He found a smile on his face.
He’s killed a god before, he’ll do it again.
“Sky, wa-“ Warriors groaned, rubbing at his eyes. Sky glanced only for a second and saw blood streaming down Warriors’s cheeks. No doubt, Sky thought, an effect of the poison.
Then it sank in. Warriors was crying blood.
Even with it around the sword’s hilt, his nails dug into his palm. Their eyes met once more, the light of the white shinned like he was challenging him.
And suddenly, Sky was in a sort of plains, the floor gave a reflection like it was a shadow. His skin was black scales, his hair was like fire.
“He said to do it.”
“Sky, don’t!”
“I’ll only be turned back to a mask.” Fierce stretched his arms. “He’ll be fine.”
Sky’s mind buzzed. The room was beginning to spin. The voices were starting to fizz out. He needed to deal with this guy now.
He shook his head, hoping the adrenaline would be as strong as it was seconds ago.
“Bullshit! Sprite has your scars!” Warriors was thrown into a coughing fit. His hands flew to his eyes.
The red showed a stark contrast to Warriors pale skin. Sky unclipped and took off his sailcloth, ready to step to Warriors. Then he almost tripped on the body in front of him and knelt down, applying pressure to Wild’s wound.
“Knight of Skyloft,” Sky’s ears flicked at the title. Only one person called him that constantly. “you must, to save him and yourselves.”
“Sky, I swear to Hylia!”
Sky felt a warning in his very bones. Either this deity was planning something, or he was actually trying to sacrifice himself. The second option was highly unlikely. And why did this deity keep saying “he?”
Sky shook his head as a headache came on. The Deity wanted Sky to kill him. Warriors was saying not to. Wild was very badly injured and unconscious. Sky’s poison was setting in.
They didn’t have much time. That god had to die.
Sky took a deep breath. Warriors needed him, he was obviously being swayed by whoever this Fierce Deity was. For all Sky cared, he bewitched Warriors when he ran up to him, taking advantage of how weak he already was from the poison.
Sky sent a prayer for Wild to hild on for just a little longer. He stood once more, this time, he dashed at the god.
The god dodged at the last minute. “Are you sure?” The god nearly shouted.
“Sky-“ Warriors’s coughing continued. When he glanced, Sky saw blood on the floor. He was racing against the clock for all of them.
With another swing, rosegold blood poured from the wound. “Aw shit-“ Sky turned and quickly thrust his sword into the the deity’s stomach. He screamed, and then it was like watching Twilight turn into Wolfie.
The deity’s limbs contorted, his hands getting smaller, his legs getting shorter. Sky didn’t have time to let go before Fi burnt his hand.
Sky cursed and jumped back. “Why…” he looked back at the…Time? He heard himself make a noise. Like he was asking himself where the hell he came from.
Then Sky remembered just what the deity looked like. Red lines along his cheek, a blue tattoo on his forehead. White hair, yes, but with it split in the middle.
Warriors let out a noise that Sky would never forget and, just like that, Sky felt food that he hadn’t eaten start to rise into his throat.
Time fell to the ground, his back against the cold floor, rosegold blood starting to pool from under him. Warriors raced to Time’s side, shouting something Sky couldn’t comprehend, calling him “Sprite” and “Mask.”
“There you go! As I promised, ted for the poison, green to heal! I suppose you deserve it. I won’t be as kind next time, Sky Child.”
In the middle of the room, there were three red potions. One for Warriors, one for Wild…and one for him.
Sky fell onto his knees, his hands buzzing with stinging pain, his heart cracking with each whisper that left Time’s mouth.
Sky took a red potion. He sat Wild up, and poured the potion into his mouth. Wild swallowed, Sky sighed in relief.
Sky picked up the last two potions and walked to Warriors and a fallen Time stayed. He saw the drowsiness in Time’s eyes. He didn’t have much time.
He knelt down, and gave Warriors a bottle. Then he popped the second one open. He looked down at Time’s bleeding form.
“You better swallow…” Sky chuckled. Warriors’s hand shot out to Sky, but he pushed him down. He straddled Time’s hips. He saw Time pierce his lips, an obvious way of him telling Sky, no.
It was starting to get hard to see, his vision was vaguely painted red. His eyes were starting to hurt. He didn’t have much time.
His hand burned with pain as it gripped the potion’s bottle. “Open your mouth, or we both die here,” Sky heard his voice. It wasn’t like he was used to.
“Use-“ Sky used his hands to keep it open and poured the potion into Time’s mouth. He swallowed. He swallowed it all.
“Sky!” Warriors pulled Sky off of Time. He showed Sky his potion, the bottle half empty. Sky shook his head.
“Can’t-“ Sky began to cough. “Yours.”
“This is a Heart Potion, right? It gives us eight of our hearts! Half gives us four. Five is definitely better than none!” Warriors pulled his sleeve up, his usual tattoo of a string of ten hearts, now shown five.
Sky looked down to his own arm, seeing that his usual ten was reduced to one half of a heart. He felt himself declining. He didn’t have much time. The lump in his throat was starting to make breathing feel suffocating.
Sky hesitantly took the potion from Warriors’s hand. He drank it, the rancid taste almost making him gag. When his lips left the rim, he began to cough up a storm. Warriors rubbed his back in circles.
Sky looked down at his arm and noticed four and a half hearts running up his forearm. He sighed, not feeling like death anymore. His head hung low and, finally, everything set in.
How close Warriors was to death. How close Wild was to death. How close he was to death. How close he put Time to death. But he was fine, Warriors was fine, Wild was fine. They had all survived, even if it was just by a hair.
He felt his fists clench, filling his hands and nails with the rosegold-soaked dirt they sat on. He laughed. All of the anger and fear unfolded from his shoulders. He laughed.
He heard Warriors join in, laying on his back, his own cackling helped Sky’s snorting. He laughed.
“You two are terrible,” Sky shot out to Time, engulfing him in a hug, his laughing continuing. Time wrapped his arms around Sky tightly.
Sky heard stomping behind him. Warriors’s laugh grew in volume. “Traveler!” When Sky turned, he ran over to his brother and nearly tackled him. Hyrule slowly, but surely, hugged Sky back. Then he saw an unconscious Wild and went for him.
Sky ran at Warriors next, who ended up on his feet, his laughing halted as he caught his brother. “Alright! Alright!” Warriors chuckled softly. “I think it’s time we get out of here, yeah?”
Sky’s laughing cooled down while he was in Warriors’s arms until it became silent other than the sound of Hyrule helping Time get Wild on his back.
Warriors pulled Sky back. Sky was slumped over, snoring lightly. His eyes, tired as they always looked, were closed. Sky had a smile on his face.
Warriors hoped that smile lasted. They would both surely be having nightmares about this dungeon.

anyway how does wind waker link feel knowing that outset island was home to a fucking 50-floor gauntlet directly under its surface filled to the brim with not only keese and chuchus but also redeads and darknuts and wizzrobes and mothulas and stalfos and armos knights and poes. since the day he was born. long BEFORE he was born, actually. at any moment if these monsters had grown smart enough to work together they probably would have broken out and left outset island like ganondorf left greatfish island—reduced to rubble. nothing left. that's such a terrifying thing to think about. do you think when he finally finished the adventure and got aryll safely at home he laid down in bed to sleep like he always did and then jerked back awake like "oh my god oh my god i have to check the labyrinth i have to make sure they're all ACTUALLY dead oh my god" LIKE??? THAT'S HORRIFYING TO THINK ABOUT, Y'KNOW????

BOSS TIME!
ALttP has just plain iconic bosses. I’m including Moldorm and Lanmola again, since they also double as enemies sometimes, but ran out of space for the Armos Knight in this post. He’s already been posted twice though.
I think the Helmasaur King has always had my favorite design from this game, but my favorite boss in most 2D Zelda games is actually Arrghus, and his lineage! He is one of the few to appear in a 3D Zelda relatively unchanged because he’s just a good boss!
Also, the purpose of this project is to make a bestiary of sorts, so while non-monster races like the Zora and Gerudo will eventually appear, I’m not planning on including any “characters” like Aganim or Ganondorf. Rather, this is a book of creatures, races, and character classes. I technically already broke this rule with Zelda 2, but that game deserves more love anyhow.
Signing off for Zelda Month 2022. I am BEAT.

Since I feel like garbage for assorted reason and I could use some nice things, let me brag for a moment about how clever we were when making plans for the Archetypes' art for They Came from the Cyclops's Cave!
Cyclops's Cave is a game in the They Came From line from Onyx Path Publishing, where each is meant to replicate the beats & tropes of genre movies. Cyclops's Cave is "the fantasy one", with its scope ranging from classic sword & sandals, passing through 80s pulp fantasy, and getting to the 90s (and a tiny bit beyond). That's a lot! So the Archetypes, the most defining element of player characters in this game, had to cover that range well. Which is something we did through text in a splendid way, but I wanted the art to do its part too. So let's do a brief showcase!
The Champion Archetype is your chosen one, your warrior forged by the crucible of war, your paragon. Conan, Xena, and She-Ra. For the art, we went with a badass knight in Excalibur-like armoe with, art notes speaking, "a fierce Lucy Lawless look".
The Dreamer Archetype is the heart, the inspiring voice, the little brave one carrying impossible weights. Frodo, Gabrielle, and Willow. For the art, we decided to tap into whimsical fae fantasy, with a faun looking at the future with bright eyes.
While people of all kinds can belong to any Archetype, the Inhuman lean into what makes them unique with pride in their culture & natural gifts. They're your Gimli, your Goliath, your Ludo from Labyrinth. Clear greek inspiration here, with this really cool gorgon. I was always annoyed fantasy games make it difficult to play as a gorgon more often then not, so here I wanted to make that option VERY clear. Gorgons are cool.
The Puppet Archetype expresses innate magical gifts like no other. They are haunts, boggarts, and spirits, but also mechanical creatures and any other (often small) portentous being. Your Bubo, Orco, or Genie from the Sinbad movies. Couldn't go wrong with something inspired by the movies of Jim Henson here. I mean, that's pretty much mandatory.
The Sage Archetype is a classic, with good reason. They're your learned wizards, your sorcerers dabbling with demons, your wise mentors. Merlin, Akiro, and Fin Raziel. Here the art goes in another direction our scope nevertheless covers by design: the brilliant cosmic avenues the King Jack Kirby gifted us all.
Lastly, another obvious yet needed Archetype: the Scoundrel. Your lovable rogues, unrepentant rascals, bane of kings and guards alike. Your Inigo Montoya, your Madmartigan, your Sinbad. For their art, we went for a sword & sorcery direction, going for a charismatic thief who wouldn't feel out of place in a Conan or Elric story.
If Cyclops's Cave goes well enough when it comes out (you can check the KS page or preorder it on Backerkit, if this thread grabbed your curiosity!), I have ideas for three more Archetypes to fill some space, but the above are our really cool core ones!

Legend of Zelda
So. The Armos Knights were easily fun, much less challenging than Yuga. next up, a certain desert palace that needs a worm infestation treatment. Which would be nice if those damn worms in the sand, stop attacking me. At least I got the Ice Rod. Oh and I decided to stupidly try for the pearl once I got the power glove. Though the upgraded boomerang and red shield are useful. As is Venus's greed. Moldorm sucks as a an opponent. Hey. I'm trying to hit you. Stop trying to ram me off you jerk.
