oh no i'm sorry i have One gripe with the game that i'll talk about but i'm putting it under a read more. the gripe itself is established in the cc but read more-ing it just in case

why does the inquisitor have a left arm? i get it's feasibly just an extensive prosthetic, but why do they even have that much? we don't select a class for them, so it's not like they're ever in combat, so it's not like they share any animations with anyone that would be difficult to re-animate for one-armedness, so why give them a second arm at all? and even if you are going to do that, why a prosthetic so extensive that it looks like they just have both arms?

idk i feel like this could've been handled better, especially since neve also uses a prosthetic. like this game could've offered better disabled representation and instead they just. let the inquisitor have both arms. and for what?

i noticed i didn't select dhavi's class during character creation, which means she likely won't be involved in any combat, which further means she won't be sharing any animations which would be difficult to adjust for one-armedness with anyone. so why the fuck does she have such an extensive prosthetic that it looks like she has both arms? who does she have to have any prosthetic at all? between the inquisitor and neve this could've been a great game for better disabled representation. even rook could've had some good prosthetic options. instead this? frustrating.

The way people talk about the obesity epidemic is baffling to me because despite the name very few people talk about it as, well, an epidemic. Everything is treated as just an individual level thing. It's either "You should have more willpower and take better care of yourself" or "You should love your body as it is and realize that there's nothing wrong with it whatever it looks like" and neither of those feel adequate to me as a response to an epidemic. The way I tend to think of it is, okay, like, think about people who have only one arm.

We reasonable people agree that folks who only have one arm shouldn't face discrimination, that society should make reasonable accommodations to help people with only one arm, and that people who only have one arm can lead healthy, full lives.

But surely we'd be really fucking concerned if the prevalence of people in the US with only one arm had tripled since the 60s?

And like, also, if it had tripled, I feel like we can agree that "People are just being irresponsible and losing their arms in accidents. If people were just more careful with their arms we wouldn't have this epidemic of one-armedness" would be a pretty far-fetched and unlikely explanation of the phenomenon!

Like, even if we did find out that the one-armedness epidemic was caused by people losing them in accidents, we've just kicked the can down the road; we still have to explain what about society has somehow encouraged everyone at every level to be more and more accident prone.

That's how I feel about the obesity epidemic, it's as though the number of people in the US with one arm had tripled in the last 60 years and the two mainstream responses are either,

"Actually, you can live a totally healthy life without having two arms" or "People need to take better care of their arms and not do dangerous things which might tear them off" both of which seem completely inadequate as ways of thinking about the situation.
