Caroline really made his grief over his mother dying about her so much so that she issued the worst ultimatum and left herself with...

A drunk old man that used to be her teacher.

A long time friend that never seemed like he got over Elena and definitely has codependent issues with his brother so much so that he sacrificed himself willingly a day after their wedding.

And a power hungry hybrid who gave her money he could more than afford to give and said pretty words but also tortured, enslaved and killed people she was connected to....and also definitely had codependent issues with his brother.

I cannot fathom it.

As a huge Forwood shipper and I’m equally very critical of them. It’s a great ship for them both at first, then becomes a ship only for Caroline’s needs and development which isn’t fair to Tyler That Klaroline/Steroline shadow made those fans believe Tyler was the worst Caroline could get. When in reality he was the BEST romantic partner and friend she ever had.

What upsets me more about that ultimatum that Caroline FORCED is that she’s the only one we see comforting Tyler after Carol’s death. Even before Carol died, and Tyler was skeptical about being alpha she uplifted him and Tyler heavily respected what she had to say and went full force with it. Mind you, this is the same Tyler that broke every bone in his body just to be with Caroline. Then re-agreed to slavery for Care. Forwood communicated with each other and called out their faults. The other tvdu ships weren’t doing that!—then we get this full arc of Caroline’s grief and remember she bluntly told Tyler to get over the fact that she hooked up with Klaus because of her impulses and she’s not good1!!1

The series wanted to bury Forwood and they did so in the worst ways imaginable. Caroline gets pregnant with Alaric’s babies forcibly. (I understand Candice was pregnant but they could’ve hid her belly so Caroline wasn’t pregnant.)-Oh and we can’t forget Alaric was in love with her and proposed.

Steroline was supposed to follow the friends to lovers build up the way Forwood did and it never appears that Stefan is all in the way Caroline is. Tbh, even before the wedding Stefan wanted out the relationship he tried multiple times to end things in s8. Caroline refused and wanted it to work. Building them up after Liz’s death was a choice. Stefan manipulated Caroline heavily to when it came Tyler and their relationship.

Klaroline has no obstacles to pass with them. Klaus may give Caroline pretty things, and money but emotionally he’s never shown to give Caroline any support. When Caroline saves Bonnie from those 12 witches which is her first huge kill(correct me if I’m wrong) since s2 she immediately goes to Klaus and he basically tells her to get away from him. Klaus mentions how she’s too good for that small town but Caroline had never said she hated her home. What she did hate was Klaus grown ass destroying shit. They never had a serious conversation about anything tbh. I did enjoy how Caroline called him out at first but TO’s “you aren’t the villain in my story.” Ruined that. Oh and lol these shippers get on Damon for his rape of Caroline yet somehow, someway excuses that Klaus attempted to rape Caroline too in Tyler’s body…. Anyways! I do think a lot of Klaroline is rooted in Klaus wanting control over Tyler, and Caroline is a way to exert control over Tyler because of his love for her.

Okay this is long af, sorry! To end this off Tyler loved Caroline for who she was. He never wanted her to change, he valued and respected her. Never abused her or anyone she loved. He listened to what she had to say. Caroline’s other love interests NEVER saw her the way Tyler did. Btw, I wish people understood Tyler never, not once slutshamed Caroline for having sex with someone else. He was only mad that she slept with Klaus as if Klaus did not ruin Tyler’s life and murdered his mother. There’s obviously a reason Caroline didn’t want Tyler to know and continued to ignore the boundaries he placed up in s5 so they could just go back to the way SHE wanted them to be. It’s sad they were ruined because 5B of Forwood has moments where you can forget their broken up just based on Forwood’s chemistry. I forgot to add, some fans pretend Tyler couldn’t give Caroline a good life. Tyler wasn’t financially struggling, and would’ve done anything she asked of him. I think it’s a little problematic that Tyler did say everything he liked about himself was Caroline lol. But, he wanted nothing but her and their happiness. Just without the enslavement from Klaus.

I couldn't agree more with what you said "Actually, my main criticism of season 3 is the lack of Steroline screen time. Its absence is particularly noticeable when you binge-watch the show... " .In fact,I noticed that once Tyler left town and Caroline's dad died,she practically had no storyline except being Klaus's bait and an object of pursuit for him. As a Caroline fan and someone who loathed both the Mikealsons and that pathetic triangle,it was quite tough to get through the second half of the season.

I remember Julie tweeting something along the lines of how what we had seen of Caroline and Stefan's friendship was simply a tip of the iceberg and that, hopefully, there was more to come.This was BEFORE s3 had even begun.I wonder if they changed their minds halfway & gave the screen time to KC instead because they were clearly struggling with what to do with her.One episode she was dancing with klaus,next episode she was helping Bonnie's mom and then, in the next, she was distracting Klaus.

Huh. You’re right. Caroline doesn’t have much of a storyline in the second half of season 3. I don’t know if I forgot about that or if I didn’t notice that absence because Stefan and Klaus’s antagonism drives so much of the plot in season 3. Your reasoning regarding Klaroline makes sense though: turn Caroline into a love interest to give her something to do. I always thought the point Klaroline was to humanize Klaus the same way Stefarine humanized Katherine. But now that I think about it both of us might be right about Klaroline in season 3: give Caroline a conflict/weave her into the story and humanize Klaus.

I like Defan, but I didn’t like how the love Defan/Elena love triangle dragged on. By season 4 I was sick of it. Looking back, I think Stefan nearly driving Elena off the bridge should have been the end of it Stelena because everything that happens afterward just feels like they were postponing the inevitable (i.e. Delena).  I’d like it if the writers focused on developing Stefan and Caroline’s friendship in season 3.

i was a klamille girlie (and halijah :( i'm never over it) through and through, and i love cami so, so dearly and never totally forgave/recovered from what they did to her. my brave girl. i loved the originals a lot and at its best still think it was the superior show, as much as i loved tvd too. the cast (joseph and daniel always get singled out specifically, and for good reason, but charles, leah, claire, phoebe, yusuf!!! et al were all so great) , the insane mikaelson dynamics, the setting in new orleans, the lean in to the grander mythology and gothic horror...catered to me very specifically.

i also don't hide that i was shamelessly a diehard stelena (and to a lesser degree datherine and forwood), i adored stefan and caroline as friends but never enjoyed their dynamic romantically please don't hate me, so the joke was on me because i lost on every single one of these? 😂 though i should note i also mostly quit tvd once elena left and have never entirely watched those last couple of seasons, so i'm sure there are vital aspects i didn't see with how they developed that.

i miss both shows terribly though, i often toy with the idea of a rewatch!

ohhhh my god I 1000000% prefer steroline over klaroline, I prefer every ship over klaroline their my #1 notp ever lol and I'll try to condense why to a few things, so this isn't too long. first, steroline had actual development and buildup and their friendship was so beautiful! other than the stuff in s6 with no humanity they were pretty healthy tbh! secondly, klaus seemed more obsessed with caroline not in love with her! their entire relationship was manipulation and it was very toxic and abusive as he's tried to kill her and her friends numerous times! third, I'm a klayley shipper and klamille they at least had development! klaroline we're fanservice plain and simple! sorry if you ship them btw these are just my opinions lol

and yes I shipped steferine! I just loved how stefan was totally different with her and their relationship was just so interesting and yes toxic and unhealthy but I think that was partly why it was so interesting and their nothing like stelena (or klaroline even though both are abusive but kc moreso imo!)

Oh, that's easy. Forwood. I LOVE THEM. I really loved how their relationship blossomed from a place of mutual discord to like/respect to friendship and then to love. I think they came together at a time when they both needed stability, someone they could rely on, someone who would give them space to learn and live and grow. And they did that individually, together. They had such richness to their dynamic. It was layered, complex, passionate, and hopeful. They fought so hard for each other and for their love. I couldn't help but root for them.

5.what is your favorite overused trope?Honestly I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to popular romance tropes (that aren’t insta love obviously). I love slow burn enemies to lovers friends to lovers a combination, I love opposites attract when it’s done well, fake dating, even miscommunication trope is fun and angsty when it’s for a ship I genuinely love.

8.do you prefer happy, bittersweet, or sad endings?

Obviously it depends on the story in question but more often than not bittersweet endings tend to be my favorite. Take the end of Clockwork Princess for example… it’s the perfect version of this (and I think it’s why every tsc finale since that one has disappointed people, because they fail to balance an earned ending for the story and characters, one that has a lot for the reader to be happy with and find satisfying with genuine pain and a feeling of loss… and I say this as someone who wasn’t disappointed by Chain of Thorns since my expectations for this book were in a realistic place, but who Was disappointed by Queen of Air and Darkness for not being that this is also telling of how much more invested I was in TDA as it was coming out and how conversely TLH for me is fun but not as serious for me as TID and TDA.) I used that example because of reactions I’m seeing to CoTh but you get my meaning a good bittersweet ending can be really satisfying.

Well I’m really not relevant enough on this website to garner hate mail over anything. Definitely the most controversial thing I ship (and I ship it pretty hardcore too) is Spuffy. Dair is a ship I love that are unreasonably disliked by some, Bamon ig is divisive according to some people and Blackstairs is considered a little polarizing though not to the extent of tv ships. Devi x Paxton is the less popular NHIE ship and it’s the one I prefer so that could count. I enjoy Klaroline sometimes even though it’s not my favorite pairing for either Caroline or Klaus (I’m more of a Steroline Klayley ultimately) but it is a ship that garners a lot of criticism some unquestionably valid.

as for characters I mean I love Rory Gilmore and Jenny Humphrey who are both pretty despised by their fandoms. There are probably a lot of female characters I like who could be in this category but I don’t have the time to list them all.

unpopular fandoms… well a lot of my fandoms are things plenty of people don’t like but also things that have a fair following. So I’m going to go with a piece of media I don’t often talk about: I don’t actually think I’d get hate mail for liking this series but I know it is kind of unpopular and that’s the Mara Dyer trilogy which is a series with a lot of problems that I do love, or at least I did when I read them.

I'm one of the only TVD fans who genuinely shipped both Stelena and Delena and would have been fine with either one as endgame, but I am so with you and your anons on the disappointment of Stefan/Caroline as a couple. The writers squandered so many chances to convince us that Stefan was truly in love with her or even deeply interested! Remember when Stefan came back in S5 without any of his memories? He liked Caroline and thought she was pretty, but it was Elena he felt the immediate draw to and who he knew he'd had a real romantic connection with. That was such a wasted chance to show that if given a blank slate, this version of Stefan would be more romantically interested in Caroline than in Elena, but...alas :) Speaking of wasted opportunities: I feel like Forwood could have been my favorite ship of the whole show if they hadn't continually messed it up!

Well, at that point in season 5 the writers were playing the 'Elena and Stefan are destined to be together' angle to both challenge Delena - since I believe Stelena were still on track to be endgame - and show that Elena choosing Damon was real and not the result of a curse or destiny. Elena could've accepted that Stefan was her destiny but she didn't buy into it and her relationship with Damon was all the better for it: while the doppelganger storyline initially confirmed Damon's worst fears that Elena and Stefan were meant to be - and that Elena was only going through a phase or settling with Damon - Damon was finally able to get over his insecurities when it was revealed that the doppelgangers finding each other was all part of The Travelers' plans, and not the universe's way of saying Stelena were fated. The writers were essentially playing both fields for a while but, in the end, Delena won and season 5 was like the final nail in the coffin for Stelena. So, Stefan being drawn to Elena served a purpose imo - season 5 was too soon for Stefan to be interested in Caroline and Stelena needed closure. Besides, the whole point of Steroline was that they didn't have this big dramatic story. They were just two friends who fell in love. Caroline falling first made it more realistic and less 'love at first sight', like Stelena or even Delena to an extent.

As for Forwood, I liked Caroline and Tyler a lot too and still don't understand why the writers fucked Tyler over so bad or why they dropped Forwood for no good reason. It happened to Bonnie and Jeremy as well. Two solid relationships spanning multiple seasons destroyed just because the writers wanted them over to make way for new ships. To me, Bonnie and Jeremy were worse because they had no closure and no real breakup, but Tyler's growth and character were sacrificed to put an end to Forwood. Also, while I like Klaroline, Caroline sleeping with the man who killed Tyler's mom was harsh.

PS: You didn't ask, but I liked Matt and Caroline as well, and believed they also deserved better. Caroline had a lot of good ships actually. Tbh, I like almost every TVD ship though I have my own preferences.

Since Steroline is canon, I will say them. I liked the development of their relationship from friends to lovers. I think Stefan became a better person with Caroline, and that helped me like him. Honestly, I rarely liked Stefan before Steroline.

I do have to say that I wish we had gotten endgame Klaroline (We could have had both since Stefan died.). I did not watch Legacies, but I have seen that Caroline spends time with Klaus before he dies (Yes, I watched that part on YouTube). The fact that she kept that voicemail speaks volumes, and they would have been epic given the chance. I always liked how he was with her.

Steroline- both had their humanities off and while I love a good dark ship storyline, the fact that Caroline forced Stefan to shut it off KNOWING his past as a ripper doesn’t sit right with me (idc if hers was off, no humanity doesn’t equal no free will)

Klaroline- Klaus says he’ll leave her alone if she “gives into her desire” and that scene just having Klaus fumble with her top while he’s just porking her full clothed. Plus while the concept of tree sex is intriguing, there are also tons of ants on bark, you could get a rash, etc. (In my forwood drabble, I actually included that part too)

Forwood- Were both friends and just having fun. Tyler never once made a move on Caroline after she turned him down and even said that he would only make a move if she wants to as well and if not, he’ll move on.

Tyler Lockwood discourse and “excuse” for how fans view him as worthless or unneeded is that his plotline ended in season 3/4 is so…wrong lmao. Tyler was not only the first introduction to werewolves/Lockwood legacy but he was Klaus’ first successful hybrid. But, no it would’ve been too much to center a plot on Tyler that has nothing to do with Caroline or Klaus. Tyler became an alpha, those hybrids trusted and respected him. Okay, then those hybrids were killed Tyler could’ve formed another pack. They can do more with wolf-related plotlines they just had to write those. Look at Hayley who was praised and worshipped as this werewolf Crescent Queen after she helped plot and kill those hybrids…but TO doesn’t acknowledge that ever. Supernatural world gossip spreads but that somehow never made it to the bayou…anyways…

The problem relies Forwood, Klaroline, Steroline and a bit of Klayley equally. Mainly Caroline and Klaus/Stefan’s popularity. Season 1/2 Caroline was ignorant as hell and disliked by most of her peers. Why? She always had something negative to say about everyone. Plus, her mental feud with Elena. So Caroline dates Matt who treats her terribly and isn’t over Elena. Then she’s placed with Tyler, she “changes” after this vampire transition. Forwood is equally new in being a vampire/werewolf. It’s easy to support them when Caroline is there as he transitions into a wolf. Shes not just this jealous raged teenage girl! She has feelings and emotions! Caroline’s sweet, caring, and protective these are reasons people should like Caroline. Most of time fans argue that Caroline was better as a vampire than she ever was as a human. Now, insert Klaroline and Klaus. Klaus gets to enforce power and control over Tyler. He enslaves him repeatedly, and constantly threatens his life. Tyler knows he can’t win against Klaus but he refuses to live by Klaus rules. Richard Lockwood, his abusive major daddy had already made his life hell by giving him standards to live by and abusing him.

Now this is getting long. But, Caroline gets to “see the good in Klaus” they get to have all these “moments” about nothing at all. Tyler isn’t there and unfortunately YES on Caroline’s end Tyler does look bad for being away but Caroline understood this and for awhile was the only person who got Tyler. Until, she didn’t the plot worked its way so we can uplift and praise Caroline in all her vampire girl-boss goodness! But, paint Tyler in a bad view. Klaroline was pulled out of the writers ass, there was no build-up and it’s often forgotten that Klaus intended to sacrifice both Caroline and Tyler but somehow someway Klaus is obsessed with this baby vampire lmao. But, “Tyler doesn’t love Caroline! He’s never there.” It’s not that Tyler didn’t want to be there, he was being treated like a slave. If the writers really and truly wanted to push Klaroline they could’ve done so without using Tyler. He wasn’t around anyways so what would’ve been the excuse? Klaroline wasn’t the plan but mildly benefits from mistreating Tyler/Michael Trevino and Kat Graham but pen in that.

Tyler’s entire family dies and we see Caroline comfort him through Carol’s death which Tyler fully blames himself for. Caroline gets this until she didn’t. She places an ultimatum over Tyler’s head. He chooses to leave, and it’s even a bigger nail on the head for the fandom. Tyler’s trying to kill Hayley and Hope. Which is ignored that Tyler intended on saving the werewolves as a species because Klaus DID continue to enslave and pick up werewolves turning them into hybrids for his own gain. Caroline sleeps with Klaus Tyler’s pissed and tries to keep contact at a minimum. You have Stefan in her ear all the time making comments about how Tyler’s violent towards her and all around a terrible person. When Tyler never abused her. Klaus was even in Caroline’s ear making her think Tyler cheated when that was never the case.

Tyler was used and needed for Caroline’s development and heavily plays a huge roll in her popularity. But, she doesn’t give half of that for him. In fact Forwood/Klaroline/Klayley and Steroline all functioned as a death to Tyler’s character. More so KC & Steroline ruined what good foundation Tyler did have. If Hayley could be some werewolf queen in TO. Tyler could’ve been hailed as a king in own bloodline. He could’ve found another group of friends to see as family. Jackson is a very similar character to Tyler. Lastly, Michael Trevino said for years that Klaroline was/is the issue with Tyler’s development.

side note: i forgot to add I firmly believe Caroline remains jealous of Elena throughout the entire show and expected Tyler to act the way Damon/Stefan does when Elena did something that was “bad” in their POV.

so the reason you see both is because my blog is over a decade old 🧓and I've changed opinions on a few ships over the years, klaroline being one of them.

back when tvd was actually airing there were some stans of the kc ship who bullied forwood/steroline shippers to the point enjoying the fandom was hard and it really turned me off to the ship when it already wasn't my fav dynamic.

now that so much time has passed I can watch it with better clarity regarding the characters themselves too, so I've softened quite a bit to them. I wouldn't say I ship them outside of poly/au situations, but I'm no longer "anti"

I got something for you, so I'm sure you're aware that one of the arguments KCers used was Klaus "picked" Caroline first. I remember back in S7 there was an itw with JP and she was talking about Caroline and the pilot and said something like "We've set her up that in a way she'll get picked first in the end" which was true, Stefan walked away from Damon. There was a KCer who commented and said "She was already picked first by Klaus but you never did anything with it." Even though Caroline grew way beyond that insecure girl we first saw, since the pilot was referenced KCers always left out one key component of that. Caroline said "How come the guys that I want never want me?" It wasn't about her just being "picked first", it was about her being picked first by the guy that she wants, there's a big difference.

I mean let's flip this around on someone else. We all know Katherine loved both brothers but when it came down to it her choice was Stefan, like she said "It was always Stefan." However, never did I hear anyone say Stefan should be with Katherine because he was her "first choice." I'm sorry but don't both Stefan and Caroline get a say in their love lives and who they want to be with? Why was it ok for Stefan to choose not to be with Katherine but it wasn't ok for Caroline to choose not to be with Klaus? Like seriously, how does that work? Like out here in the real world, there's people that I liked who didn't like me back and vice versa, that's life, it's about finding the person where you're right for each other. AKA Steroline!

Omg. I remember that argument. It was such a weak argument (there's a logical fallacy in there somewhere). "Caroline should be with Klaus because she was his first choice." Um . . . okay except Caroline's character growth is about not needing outside validation to feel good about herself. Caroline's character arc on the show is learning to feel confident and secure in her own worth. And by the time Klaus arrived in Mystic Falls, she was. She wasn't looking to be anyone's first choice because she wasn't insecure anymore. Season 4 Caroline is a different character than season 1 Caroline.

And your Klaroline/Stefarine comparison is a good one. I've always thought that the Klaus & Katherine parallels were deliberate, including their attraction (both romantic and platonic) to Stefan and Caroline. Yet, I don't ever recall anyone arguing that Stefarine should be together because Stefan was Katherine's first choice.

I don't begrudge anyone shipping Klaus and Caroline. To each their own, you know. But if someone is going to make an argument for a ship (and flood my inbox with it as many of them did when TVD aired) then at least pay attention to character development.

Which do you like more, Steroline or Klaroline?

That's a hard one because both ships have Delena qualities I like. I love Steroline because they were built from friendship, so they have all the necessary elements for a more long-lasting relationship. Trust, understanding, good communication. Klaroline has their opposite dynamic, so they challenge and change each other. I enjoy seeing that dynamic play out on screen, I'd say more than Steroline because it shows just how much of an effect love has on people. When Stefan told Caroline she has Klaus wrapped around her finger... it's true, for the same reason Elena has Damon wrapped around hers. Love can get people to do whatever it wants, it's that powerful. They're more fun to watch, put it that way.
