How is Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai a game changer for content aimed at mature audience – Notes on Yashiro #1
I took some time to write in the middle of a gloomy afternoon. I started from my thought that Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai (both manga and anime) is an unique piece that forever has changed the quality of content aimed at mature audiences, but I ended up writing about Yashiro and why he is one of the best written characters that I’ve ever seen.
It will be a long text and you already know that I am not a native English speaker, but I am trying my best, so bare with me. I have so much to say, that I could not fit everything in one post. Expect more to come, but due to my busy work schedule I can only write once a week. Thank you!
Disclaimer: There will be talks about abuse, rape, explicit sexual content, and I won’t refrain from using words like f and d. So it might be a lot of fucks and dicks. Also, a lot of personal side notes ahead.
Tumblr media
I will analyze from a personal view the most important perceived elements of Yoneda Kou’s work, altogether with their perceived impact on content aimed at mature audience. In order to avoid any confusion that might occur due to my, at times, ambiguous manner of writing, I’ve decided to split my ideas into sections/headers which will highlight the main points. If anything gets foggy, I will gladly fragment it and explain it the best I can, later.
We’re living in an era where content is stored and shared everywhere. Content looks like a deep and wide ocean. Right before I watched Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai for the first time, I was looking to consume something romantic-but-controversial, dramatic, slow-paced and engaging, but with a tint of action, a need of mine that shows on Netflix, HBO or any other largely consumed broadcasting platform could not fulfill anymore.
I know for sure that too much existing content can be overwhelming. But is it really “this much content” quality content? The question is food for thought. With the illusion of endless choices in mind and at a click distance, it’s surprising to find out that there is so little content on topics like mature-romance-drama-action. This being said, I do not aim to compare Saezuru with anything else, as I know there are maybe other titles within the same tag (however, they are different!), and I don’t want any sort of bias to perpetuate and create divided opinions. Instead of comparing to other titles, I’d rather focus on why Saezuru is unique.
Even though Saezuru gives us the impression that it is niched on a certain audience, you have to hear me out how unique and amazing it is, that even while included within a huge scope of media entertainment, it still ticks the box for appeal on a larger audience. Larger than manga lovers. Larger than BL and romance lovers. I deliberately chose this term “content for mature audience” because I think that Saezuru perfectly fits it, more than it fits BL manga/ yaoi tag.
Saezuru has endless potential and I am writing this because I want to see and hear more of it in the future. I wouldn’t mind a visual novel with Yashiro and Doumeki, more movies, or a long anime series. I see it as a game changer because it creates, through a series of elements well thought and put together, a genre on its own whose complexity makes it so difficult to put a label on, which ultimately is the source of its power over conventional content.
There are certain elements that make Saezuru what it is: art. We’re going to follow in-depth and with examples 2 important elements: development of characters and immersion. These two elements are interconnected, but I will attempt to discuss them divided. Looking from a far, it does not seem like much, but they are major game changers.
1.   Development of characters
Overview
There is no doubt that Yoneda Sensei’s characters feel alive. They breathe, take each step, weather and suffer more than you’d think it’s possible, in a manner that looks beyond convincing to the audience. Each of their fights will leave them with scars, and scars as physical features are an important symbol in the chosen appeal for realism. Needless to say, scars, under the emotional and mental umbrella, are present, bold, and they hurt. Sensei just knows how to depict everything with intensity and accuracy.
If you are watching the movie, or reading the manga for the first time, it’s going to literally sting how relatable Yashiro is, how real and raw Doumeki is, and how the other supporting and secondary characters are not just there by coincidence, but have a sustaining role in the atmosphere and story.
In the following section and further posts, emphasis is placed on Yashiro, but I’ve included key moments that capture the charm of all the other characters involved in the story, though I will treat Yashiro and Doumeki separately, putting each in light.
 Yashiro and his past self
Tumblr media
Following the proposed logic with Yashiro, from the start, we can easily see that he is bound to be a pellicular main character, but relatable, without taking over the role of a “prince charming”, although objectively handsome looking. He does not have a linear evolution, his upsides and downsides happening at random times.
Yashiro has a turbulent life as a teenager, after suffering trauma from rape in his childhood, then gradually encountering hope after meeting Kageyama, just to be let down by his ignorance, and to ultimately follow the masochistic path that sculpted him into the person we see when he first meets Doumeki. The psychological tools used in shaping Yashiro are not unusual, but he, as a whole character, stands out. I always wanted to deep dive into what makes Yashiro so damn charming. There are several instances that stand out about him and scenes where his evolution/transformation curve is visible.
At the very start, Yashiro himself tells us that he is "twisted beyond repair" and enjoys pain because this is everything that he’s ever known, ever since his stepfather raped him at the age of 10.
Kageyama was an important turn in his life as a young adult, as meeting him gave him the hope for a romantic relationship. Kageyama touches Yashiro’s scars in the doctor’s office and in the audiovisual room, but this stops as soon as he finds out that Yashiro was raped. Kageyama seems like the light at the end of the tunnel at first, but it turns out to be just the entrance for a pitch black pathway. He isn’t the salvation Yashiro hoped for. In fact, Yashiro does not even know what to hope for and what true salvation means, which mixed with his dark background, results in a depressing and hopeless spiral type of outcome. He also has no parents by his side. He's never had someone to guide him and warm his freezing heart during childhood. We might as well assume that Yashiro is broken from the beginning. But how broken, is it really beyond repair? I think that is not the case.
I found interesting how Yashiro’s idea of love is contoured around the time shown with Kageyama. Yashiro, after all the trauma, creates a liaison between sex and hatred, as they coexist in his mind and actions (= the famous defense mechanism). It is best shown when in love with Kageyama, he will imagine, and get turned on by a version of Kageyama that is vulnerable and helpless. Not by a dominant version that could, for instance, fuck him.
“The Kageyama in my fantasy wasn’t on top or on bottom. He just cried.”
His true love interest is perceived as complete opposite of how he sees his dominator. But even more, Yashiro does not know how the opposite of pain feels like, so he is too afraid to find out as his defense kicks in. His love interest is never going to touch him the way that everyone who abuses him does. That’s why I don’t think he ever fantasized or had dreams about being penetrated by Kageyama, which, proves that violent sex is his main coping mechanism for his trauma. As a consequence, he is unable to romanticize sex or to make love with someone he has feelings for, as “making love” has no known meaning to him. Also, his basic emotional needs from childhood could not be fulfilled, because of the mistreatment that he received from his family, so he could not fully develop that side. This is why Yashiro can only look, sink into his thoughts, disconnect from the world and be an onlooker to his beloved Kageyama.
Here I would see fit to also point one thing: the scenes where Yashiro is lusting over Kageyama are so well made. They are absolutely flawless, and they show in a few panels the whole anguish, confusion and arousal of a troubled and lost kid, especially the moments when he runs and masturbates in the heat of the moment, thinking of Kage, away from everyone.
Tumblr media
When Yashiro chokes on his regrets as he jerks off over and over... I could literally feel dark butterflies in my stomach and a metallic taste on my tongue. So expressive and graphic, I loved it.
Soon enough we find out that Kageyama doesn’t really care, and this realization of him not caring, gradually contributes to Yashiro’s mental state degradation. I cannot stop wondering what would have happened if Kageyama would have cared enough to protect Yashiro from further twisting the knife in his own wounds. Yashiro breaking down and crying because of Kageyama's ignorance is one heartbreaking thing, but knowing that Yashiro is biased and blind to the fact that Kageyama is one guy that half asses things in life, is another. A receipt of how Kageyama fucks it:
He gave wrong signals to Yashiro all along. You’re telling me that for two weeks, he touches his wounds because he has a fetish for marks, then he stops and never touches him again, and calls Yashiro just “a friend”. What if Yashiro isn’t simply twisted to fall for the first thing that appears as rescue, but instead, he gets those signals and understands them right to a point, just to be let down and have Kageyama take it all back, just because Kageyama is a coward himself who wouldn’t take things further. Might sound harsh, but Kageyama has always been a closeted gay and together with Yashiro’s zero self esteem, nothing good could come out of this relationship, not in the way that Yashiro wanted it. If we look at how things turned out with Kuga, and we compare Yashiro with Kuga, we can so easily see that Kuga pushed for the old man’s feelings, while Yashiro stood silent and chose to keep these feelings in himself. What if Yashiro pushed harder in high school for Kageyama’s reactions? What if Yashiro demanded and was a bit more pushy, just like Kuga did? But then again, seems at peace with his past, while Yashiro lives everyday with the consequences of his past, gets lost in these consequences and he constantly swallows them like cigarette smoke.
Kageyama does only half the things. He isn’t even paying attention to Yashiro and never really got to “know” the real him. That’s why he seems so ignorant and a dick. Even Kuga can figure out more about Yashiro at a glance, than Kageyama could in 20 years. It’s no doubt, I can see why Yashiro fell for this type that our doc is, but he is not even a good doctor to begin with. In “Don’t Stay Gold” his trembling hand and lack of accuracy while performing medical tasks proves this point. When he pulls the bullet out of that guy, it looks like he does not even know what he is doing. And even without pointing that out, he could not care less if something happens to Yashiro. He will be there to help, of course, but he will never leave the comfort zone. On top of that, Kageyama later claimed to have shown a lot of compassion towards Yashiro. I am struggling to see it and it hurts me, both as a reader and observer.
Bitterness aside, Kageyama just wanted to be normal, not associated with someone weird like Yashiro. It's fair in a way, but twisted and unfair in another way, because someone already damaged as Yashiro is, did not really deserve it. No human being deserves that. And... Being looked down on and feeling sorry for... Two things that happened before to Yashiro. Two things that he desp adores. Kageyama does them both. But guess what? After all Kageyama isn’t a bad guy, he is just human. And humans are not all black and white, they’re so many colors and shades, and they have good and bad in them. Kage is just human, whether we keep a grudge on him or not. One more point scored by Sensei’s realism, as it’s impossible to hate side characters.
And with all the loneliness, and all messed up, Yashiro is still showing compassion. Why? Because he shows up to the funeral of Kageyama’s dad, being there for his only friend when he literally has no idea how to show support because he never experienced having someone care for him. Yet, there he is. Broken, but not broken enough not to empathize.
Also, later on, another moving moment which shows how big of a heart Yashiro has, is when, on his path to enter Yakuza, he hears about the discussion about the old hospital that belonged to Kageyama’s family and begs Misumi not to sell the land. That scene equally shows the interest that Misumi starts to take in Yashiro, seeing Yashiro not moved an inch after he was beaten to almost death, but gets all on fire and begs when it comes to this. Here is about how selfless and ready to endure everything is Yashiro, even if betrayed and left on the sidelines every time.
Tumblr media
Surrounded by the disappointment of rejection, Yashiro steals the contact lenses from Kageyama, but not to make him suffer. This act of theft is nothing but a symbol for his need for closure. Yashiro wanted to own something that could comfort him and be his, if Kageyama could not be his. A lot of great people on Tumblr explained so much better than me these aspects about the symbol that is the contact lenses case, so I am not going to insist on it. I really love how such a small recurring symbol was inserted into the story. It shows the idea that Yashiro is, in fact, sensitive.
“I am a wonderful actor”.
In similar instances, he is full of contradictions, one moment he laughs, another he is dead serious around his crush. Unstable and tormented by what happens to him if he emotionally gets hurt by the soon to be doctor, he finds relief in pain from sex with older men. And later on, he is plotting on making Kuga and Kageyama meet, just to give himself a lot of pain seeing Kageyama finally falling in love with a man. Yashiro isn’t only an actor, but he is a great observer himself. He knows exactly what his type and movements will be, so he knows how to act till the end, when he can finally push himself to accept that Kageyama will never be his man.
What I really wanted to say by showing all these examples, is that Yashiro is so much more than his trauma and so much more than he is perceived by Kage. His complexity goes beyond the expectation of just a broken kid with a "fucked up past". Sadly, he is the only one blinded, not capable to see inside of himself, mostly because of what others did to him. At some point he says that it's no one's fault for his past, and that alone speaks volumes about the person that he is. He took all the blame on himself and continues to carry on as a side observer to his own life.
Fast forward the described scenes, some feelings remain dormant as Yashiro gets into the Yakuza, but I think daddy Misumi takes care of certain aspects of Yashiro, and thanks to him, they’re not lost forever. The dynamic between Yashiro and Misumi is another interesting topic.
Misumi is, well, both a daddy and a dad for Yashiro. It’s so intriguing to read everything that Yashiro went through when he first got into the Yakuza, and for sure, how Misumi saved Yashiro in all the ways that he could have been saved. He gave him a place to stay, and he gave him a bit of worth after partially convincing him not to sleep around with every single person, when they could simply sleep together. Misumi could give Yashiro the violence he was hungry for in bed, but he also could give him the affectionate care of a parent, because I’m pretty sure that Misumi loves Yashiro like his own son. He believed in Yashiro the way he was, even though he met him while he was at his lowest, being fucked by an entire gang and covered in cum. Here I think Yashiro’s recklessness, charm and not giving a fuck energy, played a major role in seducing Misumi, and by seducing I mean... More than just getting hard at the sight of Yashiro.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This just turned from a character analysis to I LOVE Misumi so much and everything he’s ever done for Yashiro. And honestly, I hold myself not to insert the image of Ryuzaki hearing how fucking good Yashiro looks after being taken under Misumi’s wing. Thinking of how in love Ryuzaki is with Yashiro, it makes me kind of excited to see his reaction.
Before meeting Doumeki, Yashiro has a few more details worth mentioning:
Self neglect habits, which can be linked to his depression. I am sure that Yashiro skips meals, especially in the days before Misumi took him under his wing, when he was fucked by Ryuzaki's gang. Maybe he doesn't get enough sleep from the way I see him at times, and he lacks overall the self care that he needs and constantly falls into the dark haul of hating himself not leaving any time for nourishment.
Yashiro is a heavy smoker, that is a detail that can equally reflect 2 things: he is trying to escape through his addiction, but smoking is also part of his interesting personality, a detail that makes him versatile. He smokes since high school, so this habit has been there for long enough to become part of him, maybe as another way to cope with trauma. Just like all the coping with trauma through sex.
Yashiro is not a monster; after all he becomes a successful man who’s got so many desirable attributes, yakuzas would kill for. I think that even while twisted beyond repair, hopeless and left behind, our Sensei left space for Yashiro to be able to empathize and feel love, even in the moment t0. He just doesn’t know it yet, because no one truly loved him. But what we do know, however, is that he always wanted to be loved.
I will conclude this post by saying that Yashiro changes a lot from high school up to entering in Doushinkai, so he was not stagnant at all before meeting Doumeki. He is not ready for love, but he refrained a bit from the gang bang and sex with just anyone. He does it smarter now. His dynamics with the other characters, his own struggles and past, and the position that he got within the group, remain all connected to his wonderful charm. It overall seems like there is no side character that is left untouched by Yashiro’s beauty, and as a result most of the people he crossed paths with, either bear feelings or admiration for him. Ok, maybe not Hirata. But the plot is so exciting, I could not even imagine that a character like Yashiro could reunite politics and affairs around such an immersive circle.

November 1983
Stares. Everywhere she walked, all she could feel and see were the stares. It was like everyone in the school had their eyes trained on the girl which wasn't really hard to believe. After all, she was the talk of the town.
Y/N Marie Hopper, the girl who had been hospitalized for three months and whose parents were dead while her brother was missing. Not to mention it was her first official day of school at Hawkins High.
She was the new girl who every single one of them had seen plastered in the news on repeat and who had even had a full page article devoted to the horrible accident that had taken place months before.
Y/N tried to ignore the gazes and was pretty much successful, but it was the whispering that got to her. It was an annoying buzzing in her ear that never went away as she moved down the hall and all she could do was just keep her head low as she made her way to her locker.
Her breathing was a little shaky as she walked and everyone could see the way her hands gripped onto the straps of her backpack like her life depended on it, her knuckles pale from how hard her grip was.
For a moment, Y/N felt like she was back walking the school hallways of her middle school. However, back then she had Thomas by her side.
"I don't know about this, Thomas. They're all staring," Y/N whispered as she glanced at her twin before letting her eyes flicker around the hallway and at the few gazes being sent in their direction.
Thomas looked down at his sister and ran a hand through his messy brown hair before giving the girl a small smile, the kind of smile of his that warmed her heart and made her feel safe.
"It's going to be okay, Y/N," Thomas assured her with a small laugh. "Trust me. They don't care."
"I don't know. I mean. . .how am I supposed to survive when we don't even have any classes together?" Y/N asked, her eyes wide as she looked at her brother in fright.
"Y/N," Thomas sighed. "You're going to be okay. It's not like I won't see you forever. It's only for a couple of periods and then I'll see you at lunch."
"But-" Y/N began, but she was cut off by her twin suddenly stopping in front of a room that she quickly realized was her first class of the day. Her eyes widened and she glanced at Thomas who gave her a tiny smile as he reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Before she could blink, the boy had leaned forward to press a small kiss to her forehead in goodbye. "You're going to be fine," Thomas assured her before winking at the girl. "I'll see you later, okay?"
Then, before Y/N could protest, Thomas was walking down the hall and towards his own first period, leaving the girl to stare after him as she whispered softly, "Bye."
Y/N blinked a few times to rid herself of the memory, her eyes pricking with tears at the thought of her brother. She would give anything to have him by her side right now. All the teasing and the annoying jokes, she would go through it every day just to see her brother's face and to feel the warmth of his smile once again.
The girl managed to get rid of her tears by the time she had reached her locker and she gulped slightly as she moved to put in her combination, hundreds of eyes staring at her as she did.
Y/N hesitated for a second before looking over her shoulder and at the people staring at her. It was then that their trance seemed to break and everyone was quick to look away while Y/N rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to her locker.
The girl let out a huff of frustration when the locker refused to open and she yanked on her locker a few times before letting out a groan and leaning her forehead against the cold metal in defeat.
"Need some help?" a voice inquired, a hint of amusement in their tone.
Y/N froze before slowly standing back up, her gaze instantly locking on the boy that stood in front of her. He radiated confidence as he leaned against the lockers with a smile on his face, an eyebrow raised in amusement while his brown eyes flickered over her face. He ran a hand through his voluminous chocolate locks and titled his head slightly in question. It was then that Y/N remembered that he had asked her something.
"Oh," Y/N said, her face reddening slightly as she looked down. "Uh, yes. . .please."
The boy gave her a small smile before turning to the locker. Y/N watched in silence as he jiggled the lock three times before turning and hitting his elbow against the metal just right, the locker door instantly popping open and making the young girl look at him in surprise.
"Woah. How did you-?" she trailed off as she looked at the boy surprised.
"I had this locker last year," the boy explained with a shrug.
"Well thank you," Y/N said as she nodded at the boy in thanks. She then took her backpack off and began to unpack some of the things she didn't need at the moment while the boy watched her curiously.
"I'm Steve. Steve Harrington," the boy finally decided to say, licking his chapped lips while Y/N stood up. He gave her a curious look and titled his head as if he were trying to figure her out. "And you are?"
Y/N wouldn't lie and say she wasn't surprised that Steve didn't know who she was because she was, but something about knowing that the boy didn't know about her or her past made her smile.
"I'm Y/N. Y/N Hopper," she said with a smile before zipping up her backpack and grabbing her schedule which she had placed inside her locker. She then closed her locker door before looking at Steve who had a look of shock on his face. Y/N internally winced. So he did know who she was.
"Hopper?" Steve questioned while Y/N hesitantly nodded her head. "Like Officer Hopper?"
"Yeah, he's my uncle," Y/N explained, her shoulders relaxing slightly once she realized Steve might actually not know who she is.
"Sounds like fun," Steve joked earning a small laugh from Y/N, a sound she hadn't heard leave her lips since the accident.
"He's not that bad," Y/N assured him before she glanced down at her schedule. "Shit. Um. . .do you happen to know where Mr. Barkley's room is? He teaches English."
"Yeah, I know where Barkley is. Actually, his class just happens to be next to mine so I'll just walk you there if you don't mind," Steve said, a small smile on his face.
Y/N couldn't help but smile back, thankful to have met one nice person within her first five minutes at Hawkins High. "That would be great. Thank you," Y/N sighed in relief before she fell into line beside Steve.
As they walked down the hallway, Y/N got more stares than usual. However, she didn't seem to notice since she was too busy focusing on what Steve was telling her. He basically gave her a rundown of the school and all the important people that she needed to know or avoid as they walked down the hall and by the time they had reached her classroom, Y/N felt like she knew more about the people around her than they did about herself.
"Here's Barkley's room, so I guess I'll leave you to it," Steve said as he turned to the girl. "Maybe I'll see you around?"
"Maybe," Y/N joked before giving the boy a small smile. "Thanks again, Steve."
"Anytime, Y/N," Steve said before the two nodded at each other in goodbye. Y/N then disappeared into her class while Steve stared after her curiously. He could tell something was off with the way she held herself and her name sounded so familiar, but he just couldn't put a finger on it.
"Yo, Steve!" a voice exclaimed as a hand came down onto his shoulder. Steve jumped slightly in surprise before turning to see his best friend Tommy Hagan standing there with a confused look on his face as well as a smile.
"Oh, hey, man," Steve greeted as he turned his attention towards the boy, already forgetting about Y/N.
"What were you doing with the new girl? You do know who she is, right?" Tommy questioned, looking both confused and intrigued.
Steve gave the boy an exasperated look as he sighed and asked, "What are you talking about?"
"That's Y/N Hopper, man. She's the girl whose family got in that huge wreck on the outskirts of town. Her parents died and her brother has been missing ever since. She only just got cleared from the hospital like two weeks ago," Tommy explained while a look of realization flickered across Steve's face.
That was why she had seemed so familiar. Because she was the one he had seen all over the news about a month ago. He frowned slightly and looked back towards the door Y/N had walked through moments before, a feeling of guilt and sadness washing over him as he sympathized for the girl.
The bell ringing brought Steve back out of his thoughts and his eyes widened as he looked down to his watch. "Aw, man," Tommy sighed. "Listen I've got to get to class, but—Wait. Don't you have class like on the other side of school?"
"Yep," Steve muttered with a huff before patting Tommy's shoulder. "See you later, man."
And with that, Steve Harrington bolted down the hallway and towards his class which wasn't in the room right beside Y/N’s like he had told her, but was in fact all the way on the other side of the school.
Steve never would understand why he had decided to walk Y/N to class that day when he could've just as easily told her where it was, but in all honesty he didn't even care that he was late to class that day.
- - -
Y/N stared blankly at the class in front of her, twenty or so sets of eyes locked onto her as everyone waited expectantly for her to speak. Being her first day of school and having come in towards the end of the first semester, Mr. Barkley had thought it would be best if she introduced herself to the class. Y/N hadn't even had time to object before she was shoved to the front of the class, leaving her in the predicament she was in now.
"Uh. . .hi," Y/N finally said, her voice coming out small and slightly frightened. Taking in a deep breath, the girl gripped her notebook a little harder and continued. "I'm Y/N Hopper and I just moved here from Kentucky. I don't exactly know what else to say, so yeah."
The class just stared at her with wide eyes, some of them whispering to each other and making her eyes prickle slightly as she tried not to cry. Y/N knew that they all knew who she was and she could tell by the whispers that nothing they said about her was good.
"Very good. Well, welcome to Hawkins, Miss Hopper," Mr. Barkley said as he walked up and placed a gently hand on the girl's shoulder. His eyes scanned over the classroom before he smiled and looked to the girl. "You can go take a seat next to Nancy Wheeler." He then gestured towards an area where a girl waved ever so slightly.
Y/N nodded and kept her head low as she moved across the classroom and to the empty desk that would now end up being her own. She sat down and was instantly met with the brown haired girl that had waved at her and a short read head girl turning to look at her.
"Hi. As Mr. Barkley said, I'm Nancy and this is Barb," the brunette said, blue eyes staring back at her intently. Y/N couldn't help but notice how flawless the girl looked and she mentally frowned, suddenly feeling more self conscious than before.
"You said your name was Y/N, right?" the red head, Barb, asked. Her brown eyes flickered between Nancy and herself behind a pair of thick glasses and she gave her the tiniest of smiles while Y/N stared at her freckled face a little alarmed.
Y/N quickly cleared her throat and sat up more before nodding, "Uh, yeah."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Y/N," Nancy smiled. Her eyes flickered over the girl's face before she gave her a slight questioning gaze, "Are you already planning on sitting with anyone at lunch?"
"Not yet," Y/N said, her voice small as her shyness began to take over. She usually didn't have to deal with it, but without Thomas by her side to speak for her, it was like she was curling back up into her shell.
"Well you should totally sit with us. We have an empty seat and we would love to have you," Nancy told her while Y/N looked at her in surprise. They wanted her to sit with them?
"Please say yes," Barb pleaded. "I could use someone to help save me from the third wheeling I'm doing at the table with Nancy and her boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend," Nancy practically hissed at the girl before noticing Y/N’s wide eyed stare. "But yes, please say you'll sit with us."
Y/N was silent for a moment as she processed all that was going on. Her gaze shifted between the two girls and their warm smiles were enough to have her shoulders relax slightly. She didn't even know what she was doing before she nodded ever so slightly and whispered, "Yeah, okay."
Nancy and Barb's smiles widened and they began to whisper to each other and to Y/N while Mr. Barkley rambled on about a new book the class would be reading starting the following week.
Y/N couldn't help but smile softly at the two girls and their excitement before she remained silent the rest of class. So far the people at Hawkins High were really nice and maybe, just maybe, she would end up liking it here.

School proved to be harder than she thought it was going to be. It's not that the classes were hard for her, which they weren't seeing as Y/N had been an A plus type of student since she first walked into a school. No, it was the being alone with her thoughts that were getting to her.
Having no one to listen to except for her teachers who lectured about topics she already knew meant it was quite easy for the young girl's mind to drift off into space. That was the worst possible thing that could happen to her since all she could think about were her parents and her brother.
She kept seeing the accident—the shattered glass, the blood dripping from her parents, and the door on Thomas' side of the car shaking in the breeze. She could still smell it all—the sharp scent of metallic that had seemed to punch her straight in the gut, the smell of gasoline that had mixed with the blood in the air to create a combination that Y/N would never forget.
It was all she could think about and every time she blinked it was like she was back in the car, watching in horror as the car flipped in the air and her family's screams rattled in her head.
Every class of the day ended with Y/N snapping out of her thoughts by the ringing of the bell, her hands gripping onto the edges of her desk so tightly that her knuckles were white. She left every class in a hurry, not giving anyone the chance to talk to her in fear that they might mention the accident that she knew they were dying to question her about.
A school day had never felt as long as that one and it was only when everyone began to shove past the girl and towards the cafeteria that Y/N realized it was time for lunch and she was only half way through her day.
The girl was shaking as she walked into the lunchroom, the whole room falling silent at the sight of her before the faint sound of whispering filled her ears. It took all in the girl to not break down right there and her heart ached for her brother who would've been by her side.
Y/N hadn't even realized that her breathing was starting to pick up or that her heart was beating so fast that it could've jumped out of her chest. It wasn't until a cheerful voice called out her name that she snapped out of it and it was like her breath was caught in her throat as the young girl turned to the person who had called out to her.
There Nancy Wheeler sat, a big smile on her face as she waved at the girl from where she sat at a table with her friends. Y/N stared at her like a deer caught in headlights and Nancy gave her a sympathetic smile before quickly getting up from her table and walking over to the girl.
"You're still sitting with us, right?" Nancy asked as she walked over to the girl, instantly locking their arms together and causing everyone to finally pull their eyes away from Y/N Hopper.
Y/N’s mouth opened and closed for a minute as she tried to find the right words to say. Unable to find any, the girl just nodded and Nancy sent her a sweet smile before pulling her towards the lunch table.
"Guys," Nancy announced as she walked up to her friends, "this is Y/N. She's going to sit with us today."
A chorus of 'hi's filled the air and Y/N smiled back weakly, her eyes flickering over the group. She noticed Barb who was smiling back at her before her eyes glanced over two people, a couple by the looks of it, who she didn't know. But then she caught sight of the last person and her smile became just slightly more genuine at the sight of Steve Harrington sitting there, an amused look on his face as he stared at Y/N in curiosity,
"Y/N, you already know Barb, but this is Tommy Hagan, Carol Perkins, and Steve Harrington," Nancy introduced, not knowing that Y/N had already met one of the three. Y/N nodded weakly in greeting before Nancy was pulling her down into the empty seat she had saved next to Barb.
Y/N set her lunchbox down on the table before shyly looking up at the group. To her surprise, Nancy sat down beside Steve who smiled at the girl before pressing a soft kiss to the side of her head, an action that made Nancy blush.
"So, Y/N," Steve said, snapping the girl out of her thoughts as he turned his attention away from Nancy and towards her. "How's your first day been?"
Y/N gulped slightly, knowing that the only reason it had been bad was because she couldn't stop thinking about her brother and her parents. Not wanting to explain, the girl merely shrugged before whispering, "It's been okay, I guess."
Y/N could practically feel the sets of eyes on her and glanced to her left to see Carol and Tommy staring at her with both curious and judgmental looks in their eyes.
Carol's icy blue eyes seemed to be staring straight into her soul as she twirled a piece of her red hair that had fallen in front of her pale face with her fingers. She blew a small bubble with the gum she was chewing and it popped before she asked in a bored tone, "You're Hopper's niece, aren't you? The one everyone's been talking about?"
Y/N paled slightly, her stomach growing a bit queasy at those words. "Uh. . .y-y-yeah, Hopper's my uncle. I don't know about the whole everybody talking about me thing," Y/N admitted as she shyly looked down at her fingers as she messed with the small piece of thread that was hanging from her shirt sleeve.
"Don't say that. You're all anyone can talk about!" Tommy exclaimed causing Y/N to glance at him and take in his freckled appearance. His brown eyes were filled with mischief as he looked at her, the slight look of amusement making his lips turn up into a smirk. "I mean, with the whole accident and all, how could anyone not talk about you?"
Y/N froze at that, her body becoming rigid as her hands balled together. "W-W-What?" she whispered, her voice barely audible to the group and causing Steve to frown as his eyes narrowed in his friend's direction.
"What even happened anyways? Your Pops not know how to drive or something?" Carol asked as she glanced at her nails in disinterest.
"Babe, the brother is the one you should be asking about," Tommy pointed out as he nudged his girlfriend before wrapping an arm around her shoulders. He then glanced at Y/N. "What happened to him anyways? He's been missing for a couple of months now, right?"
They were being insensitive about the topic and everyone at the table knew it. It was as if they were purposely trying to get Y/N to leave and the girl could barely handle the questions being thrown her way, her face growing paler by the minute as her eyes began to gloss over.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" Tommy questioned in amusement.
"It's no use, Tommy. He's probably dead anyways," Carol muttered and that was enough to make Y/N grab her things and jump out of her seat.
"Y/N-" Nancy began as she went to reach out for the girl, but the girl was already bolting out of the cafeteria, not caring that all eyes were once again on her.
Tommy and Carol watched her leave with small smirks on their faces before turning back around towards the table to find Nancy, Barb, and Steve glaring at them. It was that fact that Steve was glaring at them that had them furrow their eyebrows in confusion and ask, "What?"
In the hallway, Y/N was desperately trying to keep her cool, biting her lip just to hold back a sob as she shoved past people and tried to find the nearest bathroom. It wasn't long before she found it and luckily for her there was no one inside.
Y/N was quick to walk in, slamming the door shut behind her and leaning against the closed door as she let out a small sob. Tears began to stream down her face and Y/N mentally cursed herself for being so weak and for allowing a few questions like that to affect her so much.
It was like the more she tried to calm herself down, the more she couldn't breath. So Y/N stumbled over to the sink, her hands instantly gripping onto the cool metal as she shakily breathed in and out. Her whole body was shaking from her sobs and she squeezed her eyes shut only to see the car accident replaying in her head.
Her eyes instantly shot open and she looked up at herself in the mirror. She didn't even recognize the person staring back at her. For the girl she remembered being was totally different from the broken girl that stared back at her.
She watched as her reflection's lips began to quiver, her eyes filling with more tears as she realized just how alone she was. All she wanted was her family back. . .She wanted her brother back.
The bathroom door opening was enough to make Y/N straighten up, forcing herself to hide just how broken she was as she quickly wiped the tears away from her face. She couldn't do anything about the red of her eyes or the tear stains on her sleeves, so Y/N pretended as if nothing was wrong as she turned to glance at the newcomer.
She saw Nancy peaking her head out from around the corner and Y/N sighed before turning away now embarrassed, sniffing slightly as she took her sleeves and began to dab around her eyes. Nancy took this as a sign that she could come in, so the girl stepped into the bathroom and made sure the door closed behind her before standing behind Stephanie.
A silence fell among the two and Y/N continued to face away from Nancy, silently wondering why the girl had followed her to the bathroom. She didn't actually care, did she?
"Tommy and Carol are assholes," Nancy finally said, the sudden statement being enough to make Y/N chuckle weakly as she nodded her head in agreement. She didn't speak as she heard Nancy walk towards her before a soft hand was placed on her shoulder.
It took Y/N a minute before she finally allowed herself to turn her gaze towards Nancy. She was expecting the same pitied look most people gave her, but was surprised when she was only met with a kind smile and curious eyes. But what surprised her even more was when Nancy asked, "Would you want to come over tonight? We can get to know each other and you could even spend the night if you want."
Y/N would be lying if she said she wasn't surprised by Nancy's question because she was so shocked that she about chocked on the air she was breathing. "You. . .you don't even know me," Y/N pointed out a little harshly, her eyebrows furrowing.
She instantly realized how rude she was after receiving an invitation that no one had ever offered her before, not even her old friends back home, and winced. "I could be a murderer," Y/N quickly added, hoping to lighten the mood with her small joke.
Nancy chuckled softly and shrugged as she said, "That's a risk I'm willing to take." She then let her eyes flicker over the girl and the look was enough to make Y/N blink in surprise at the amount of worry and care in her eyes. "Besides, you look like you could use a little time away from home."
Y/N wasn't quite sure how Nancy knew that or how she managed to make her relax, but she did and Y/N even found herself smiling. It may have been a sad smile, but it was a smile nonetheless. "You don't know how right you are," Y/N admitted in such a small voice that Nancy felt her heart ache for the girl.
"So you'll come over?" Nancy questioned, perking up slightly as she gave the girl a hopeful look.
Y/N was silent for a moment as she allowed her eyes to flicker across Nancy's face, looking for any sign of hesitance or to see if she got a feeling that Nancy was hiding something. What she was met with was the same feeling she got when she was around her brother—a feeling that made Y/N realize that maybe someone actually cared.
How that was possible after having only known Nancy for half a day would always stun Y/N, but in that moment she wanted nothing more than to push that question aside and accept the hand that was being offered to her.
After all, a night away from her uncle and the house that was way too empty for her liking was exactly what she needed.
Y/N was silent as she nodded and Nancy let out a small squeal before rushing forward and hugging her in excitement. The girl didn't have time to even blink before Nancy was pulling away to give Y/N her address.
Y/N blinked in response but smiled softly as she said, "I'll have to tell my uncle and he won't get home until after dinner, but I'll head over right after that."
"Sounds like a plan," Nancy grinned as she linked her arm with Y/N’s. "Now come on. Let's go eat outside, shall we?"
With that, the two girls walked out of the bathroom together side by side. And for the first time since the accident, Y/N felt happy.
- - -
A small shiver sent down the girl's back had Y/N halting in place as she closed her eyes, the shudder racking her body while the cold breeze blew against her. It was almost winter so Y/N understood why it would be as cold as it was, but boy did she long for summer where she didn't have to worry about freezing to death. Not that boiling was much better.
Once she had collected herself, Y/N opened up her eyes once again and stuck her tongue out as she concentrated on lining the flyer just right that she could put a staple at the top. Once the staple had dug its way into the wood of the post, Y/N put another staple at the bottom of the flyer before taking a step back.
Her eyes flickered over the flyer, hesitating slightly on the picture of her brother before she gulped at the big black words that read 'Missing.' She could feel her throat starting to constrict, a sign that tears were on their way, so Y/N was quick to look away and begin walking down the street.
She stopped wherever she could find a place to put up the flyer about her brother's disappearance. It was the next best option for finding the boy, even if everyone knew who he was now that he was a part of the biggest news story the town had ever seen.
That wasn't enough to stop her from making the flyers and hanging them up though. Y/N just had a feeling that if she kept him in the minds of others through her flyers, then maybe. . .just maybe, if someone happened to see him, they would call. Maybe Thomas would be found.
Y/N had reached a new post and struggled to get a flyer from the giant stack she was carrying without dropping the others or the stapler. Before she knew it, a small pair of hands had grabbed the stack for her, holding it out so that she could grab the top flyer without trouble.
The young girl hesitated as she took the flyer before letting her gaze fall on the young thirteen year old boy standing before her. His big brown eyes stared at her from below his bowl cut and his bright smile was just barely brighter than the orange vest that hugged his small frame. He had a small sparkle in his eyes that made Y/N relax slightly and she gave the boy a small look before whispering, "Thank you."
The boy's smile widened and Y/N stared at him one last time before turning and stapling the flyer onto the post in front of her. It was then that she turned back towards the boy, gently taking the pile of flyers from him as he stared up at her.
"I'm Will," the boy finally said, his smile wide as he held out a hand.
"Y/N," she replied, a hint of amusement in her voice as she shook the boy's hand. "Thanks for your help."
"It's no problem," Will assured her with a small shrug. "I was just waiting for my brother to finish up in the store anyways and thought I be more useful helping you rather than standing there watching you struggle."
Y/N chuckled softly and nodded at the boy. "Well, I appreciate it," she told him.
"You know," Will began as he let his eyes flicker over to the flyer. "Your brother's lucky to have someone like you. If I went missing, I hope someone would try looking for me as hard as you are for Thomas."
Y/N didn't know why the words hit her as hard as they did, but her eyes teared up slightly as she looked at the kind boy. "Thank you," she whispered again while Will just smiled at her.
He then glanced back at the store that Y/N assumed his brother was in and sighed before saying, "I wish my brother would hurry up. I was supposed to be at my friend's house ten minutes ago. We're about to start a new campaign for our Dungeons and Dragons game and I cannot miss it."
Y/N perked up slightly at that, a smile on her face as she looked at the boy in amazement. "Dungeons and Dragons? I love that game," she told him.
Will's eyes lit up and he practically jumped with joy as he asked, "Really?"
Y/N nodded and gave the boy a look of disbelief as she said, "It's only the best game of all time."
Will's smile grew and he opened his mouth to talk more when a voice suddenly yelled out, "Will!" The two fell quiet as they looked over to see a boy around Y/N’s age walking out of the store and towards the two.
"Will, you can't just walk out on me like that," the boy sighed while Will gave him a sheepish look.
"I'm sorry, but I was just trying to help Y/N," Will explained as he gestured towards the girl. His brother's gaze then flickered over to Y/N as if he hadn't noticed her before and his eyes widened slightly, something that told Y/N he knew exactly who she was.
"Hi," Y/N greeted as she held a hand out. "Your brother was just helping me put up a flyer which I am extremely thankful for. I'm Y/N Hopper."
"Jonathan Byers," the boy said with a small nod as he shook the girl's hand a little hesitantly. "You're the new girl, right? I think you're in my history class."
Y/N nodded at that and smiled once she realized that Jonathan was in fact in her history class. She was pretty sure he sat two rows behind her actually. They obviously hadn't talked, but she had caught a glimpse of him when their teacher made her introduce herself in front of the class.
Jonathan gave the girl a sad smile as he shoved his hands into his pockets. "I'm sorry about your brother," he whispered, the pity in his voice making Y/N inhale sharply.
"Oh," Y/N whispered as she shuffled awkwardly in place. "Thanks."
Will frowned once he realized the girl's sudden mood change and watched as she glanced at her flyers. He could tell she wanted to continue putting them up so that she could find her brother, so Will quickly tugged on his brother's sleeve and said, "Jonathan, we need to go. I'm already late!"
Jonathan sighed and glanced down at his little brother before looking up at Y/N and giving her a small nod. "Uh. . .I'll see you at school I guess," Jonathan said, although both knew they probably wouldn't talk to each other.
"Yeah, of course. It was nice meeting you both and thank you for helping, Will," Y/N said as she sent the younger boy a small smile in his direction.
Will quickly returned it before grabbed his brother's hand and beginning to drag him away. "Bye, Y/N! Maybe next time I see you, we can play Dungeons and Dragons!" Will exclaimed with a wave, but Y/N didn't have time to response before Will had already pulled Jonathan out of hearing range.
Y/N stared in the direction Jonathan and Will had gone before smiling softly and looking down at the flyers in her hands. It was at the sight of her brother's picture that she remembered why she was out there and the young girl let out a small sigh before continuing on her way down the street.
This was going to take a while.
- - -
Y/N didn't get home until after dinner, but thankfully her uncle wasn't home yet which meant she didn't have to explain why she was out for so long.
It's not that she wanted to hide it from her uncle, but sometimes just not talking about anything related to the accident, her parents, or her brother was easier. Jim Hopper wasn't the best when it came to feelings and the two both knew it, especially now that Y/N had been living with him for the past couple of months.
The girl couldn't even find it in herself to eat dinner, so she merely took an apple from the kitchen before heading to her room to pack a few things for the night at Nancy's. She was just putting a change of clothes into her bag when the front door opened up. She could hear the sound of her uncle's footsteps as he walked into the house and let out a loud sigh, the relief of finally being home evident.
She knew it wouldn't be long before he came to check on her, so she wasn't surprised when she heard a small knock on her door a couple of minutes later before Hopper's voice called out, "Kid?"
"Come in," Y/N said before she heard her door creak open. She glanced back in time to see her uncle take off his hat as he stepped inside and the two made eye contact for a split second before Y/N turned back around and continued packing her bag.
Hopper furrowed his eyebrows and watched the girl silently before finally asking, "You going somewhere?"
"This girl in my class offered for me to spend the night," Y/N said, the surprise evident in her voice. She hesitated before looking back at Hopper. "But I'll go only if it's okay with you. Do you mind?"
"No," Hopper said a little too quickly, his eyes wide as he stared at his niece. "No, not at all. You can go." In all honesty, if it had been under any other circumstance, he probably would've told her to stay home. But this was his niece he was talking about and he had always had a soft spot for her. And the fact that one of Y/N’s new friends was already wanting to get to know her more and inviting her over for a sleepover was enough to make him feel happy for the kid. "Who. . .who is it?"
"Her name is Nancy Wheeler," Y/N explained and Hopper nodded, already knowing who the girl was and knowing that her family would keep Y/N safe for the night.
A silence followed the two as Y/N turned and went to grab the last item for her bag. Hopper watched her as she hesitated, her fingers dancing across a dark green sweatshirt that he knew had belonged to Thomas. It wasn't a surprise that Y/N had it. She had always been stealing Thomas' sweatshirts since the two were kids and now that he was missing, she couldn't go anywhere without one of his sweatshirts hidden in her bag and wrapped around her tightly.
Hopper let his eyes flicker up to his niece's face and he smiled sadly at the sight of her utter sadness that crossed her face. Letting out a small sigh, Hopper began to walk towards her as he whispered, "Kid."
Y/N instantly snapped out of whatever trance she had been in and grabbed Thomas' sweatshirt before stuffing it into her bag. She had zipped up the backpack before Hopper could even blink and turned to him with a haunted look in her eyes. "I'm already late, so I'll just head on over I guess. I'll see you tomorrow after you get home from work, okay?" Y/N said a little rushed before she went to speed past her uncle.
Hopper sighed, not surprised by the girl's reaction. She usually did this when she knew he wanted to talk about the accident and Thomas. Not wanting to talk about it, she always found some excuse or pretended to be too busy at the moment to talk to him. But Hopper knew she was going to break one day and a part of him was always afraid it would happen when he wasn't around.
"I can drive you," Hoper suggested, but Y/N instantly tensed in response and blurted out, "No!"
A heavy silence fell among the two and Y/N sighed before relaxing her shoulders and turning to look at Hopper. "I mean, no, thank you. I can just walk," she assured him.
Hopper stared at her in silence for a moment before hesitantly nodding his head, not liking that she wanted to walk alone all the way to Nancy's house, but knowing he wouldn't be able to get her into the car. Not after what had happened.
"Okay, then. I guess I'll see you tomorrow then. You be safe, okay? Call me if you need anything," Hopper told her.
Y/N nodded and gave the man a weak smile. "Will do. Thanks, Uncle Jim," she said before turning and quickly walking out of the house. Hopper stared after her silently before letting out a soft sigh and turning to go change out of his work clothes.
From the other side of the front door stood Y/N who was taking in a few deep breaths to try and calm herself down. She was quick to take off her backpack and unzip it before pulling the green sweatshirt out. It was only when she had Thomas' sweatshirt wrapped around her frame that she felt herself relax.
She allowed herself to stand there for a moment, basking in the feeling of Thomas' sweatshirt wrapped around her like a hug as his scent lingered in the air. It was then that she pulled out the small slip of paper she had put in her pocket that held the address and directions to Nancy's house.
And with that, Y/N began her walk to Nancy's house, totally and blissfully unaware of the events that would occur that night after she went to bed.

THE MUN
NAME: Inflicts confusion with its length and nature, and no one got the pronunciation right.
NICKNAME: Rinnie.
FACE CLAIM: Chibi version of Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura.
PRONOUNS: She/her and they/them.
HEIGHT: 158 cm ( I suck at converting in feet and inches ).
BIRTHDAY: July 30th.
AESTHETIC: Black platform loafers, collar chains, colored contact lenses, lofi, matcha tea ( or just any tea ), round rimmed glasses, small birds chirping at the windowsill, sunlight coming through the cracks of the blinds on a peaceful morning.
LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO: Saturday Night by G.O.D. ( ‘cause 1st generation idols are amazing & I need a bop to wake myself up after a 4-hours sleep ).
FAVORITE MUSE(S) YOU’VE WRITTEN: Juniel ( forever faithful to my first and still ongoing muse ) & her mutant counterpart ( despite very brief, hopefully making a return someday ).
THE MUSE
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE: November 24th, 2012, was the day I dived into the world of roleplaying. At that time, I didn’t know much about this universe and who to choose as a muse. Juniel made her Korean debut on June 7th of the same year. I thought ❝ Oh, maybe I could portray her since she also just started in something as well. ❞ and I would follow her journey while including a touch of creativity and fiction. Her appearance, her aura, her character, her demeanor and her music. All those factors drew me to her. Fast-forward to the present time, 8 years passed by and she’s still around. My muse had gone through big events, some pleasant, others heartbreaking. She met people who impacted her in good and bad ways. All those elements shaped her to who she is now. My curiosity for her hasn’t faltered at all. What will happen next? What will she do next? From what I believe to be a one-dimensional muse due to my inexperience at first turned out to be a multi-layered sweetheart who I can’t stop writing about since it just comes naturally with her.
Oh, and I adore the thrill of roleplaying an underrated female faceclaim. It’s like I am on a mission to expose Juniel to the world.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE: There’s always something going on in her life somehow. The ups and downs are interesting to write about. Her days may be trivial with the daily grind of celebrities but the past events ( e.g. the long hiatuses in between comebacks while struggling to actually have her original tracks approved by her former company, the initial backlash during her debut as she was always compared to IU, the public’s most loved soloist, yet the popularity she earned from her classic title tracks, the unfortunate romantic relationships she had gone through ) caused turbulence in my initial perception of my muse. Definitely for the better.
I like how unexpected things can get when I’m writing with her. Sure, I could drop her and start over whenever it was rough, but that would ruin the fun of knowing all the potential scenarios I never thought of.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING: Oddly, the interactions themselves? Of course, books, dramas and movies are sources that can’t be turned down. However, I found myself inspired from hearing other rpers’ opinions when plotting, from imagining the possibilities in my muse’s reactions and replies to other muses. After all, roleplaying involves writing with others. The dynamic exchanges, both in character and out of character, are what makes writing exciting!
Oh! And there’s music! It sets the mood whenever I write something in particular. I specifically choose songs depending on their lyrics. I never write without music.
FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS: Angst and fluff are what I feel the most comfortable writing about. If anything else, I like when threads allow me to delve deeper elements I wouldn’t have thought through for my muse, trivial or not. Whenever it implies a detailed explanation behind my muse’s actions and reactions, I love it.
BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE: Well, there’s always writer’s block combined with limited time allotted to the hobby since real life isn’t kind... but there’s also the awareness about English not being my first language. I do not have a vast and varied vocabulary as some rpers do. I’m aware my writing may appear simple, but I’ve learned to appreciate it. Though, the challenge remains in how to make it interesting to the other person. It is still complicated for me to write heavy descriptions rather than focus on the inner part of my muse. I also find it difficult at times to write with a distinctive flow. I always make sure there is one as I read my replies aloud before posting them. I have that tendency to delete an entire reply to start over. Just because it doesn’t sound right.
A recent struggle I noticed that can potentially take the first place is the lack of plots I desire to do. I apologize to all the rpers I approached so far with a blank mind ( my only compensation to it being my enthusiasm to find something fitting for everyone ). I guess my muse is dependent on others more than my own ideas. I’ve always gone with the flow!

Avengers: Age of Art Movie? ART?? MOVIE
DAY ONE
the title for this chapter of the Mighty Pre-Endgame Rewatch comes from the fact that Joss Whedon apparently said, of Age of Ultron:
“I was trying to make a little art movie. Which is actually, a pretty shitty thing to do to a studio that gives you a lot of money.”
which??? ok?????
so we went into this looking for Joss Whedon’s Art Movie
It’s worth noting before we get into this that I’m a fan of a lot of things Joss Whedon has done over the years, as much as I give him crap sometimes, and actually, I don’t know that I hate this movie as much as is common. I enjoyed it more than I remember enjoying it in the past? I go back and forth. I saw it in theaters and was like “actually I like this it’s pretty ok” and then I saw it again like “OH NO THIS IS AWFUL” and then again like “OH NO IT’S EVEN WORSE THAN I REMEMBER” and now I’m watching it again like “actually......” and I think it’s that the quality is very. uneven?
it is also worth noting that it took us TWO DAYS to watch this because we kept having to pause the movie  in order to GO OFF which meant that this 2 hour 22 minute movie took us like SIX HOURS to watch. at first it was just me and The Roommate @goteamwin but on Day Two the Gal Pal @pegasuschick joined us.
anyway on with the rewatch (day one)
I STILL MISS THE OLD MARVEL LOGO! SO MUCH!
So the opening shot of this movie is from the twins’ POV and this was the first point that we paused the movie to fully Go Off because goddamn
can you imagine how much better this battle scene would be from the twins’ pov?
like: there’s all these explosions and shaky cam and a monster roaring and you’re like “oh god is it aliens? it must be aliens? and these soldiers dying everywhere and the city is getting destroyed etc etc
and then you realize it’s not aliens, it’s not HYDRA, it’s not some terrible overpowered terrorists
it’s the Avengers.
now THAT would be an art film
anyway back to the rewatch
Steve Rogers: IT IS 2015, I AM NINETY SEVEN YEARS OLD AND I AM STILL FIGHTING NAZIS I AM T I R E D
this is all looking real fake it has not aged well and it wasn’t that great to start with
“they’re the avengers” he said, sounding so confused and so so tired
aaaaaand here we paused the movie AGAIN to talk for twenty minutes, mostly about how if this whole “”’”art movie”’’’’’’’ had been shot from the Twins perspective, that would have been a better set up for Civil War and also super interesting
“We are here to help” why is the Iron Legion speaking Very American English in an eastern? european? city
Old Man Dad Clint
there’s two weirdly different movies happening here and they do not sit well together: like, a dark spooky serious one and a quippy Joss Whedon action movie
and don’t get me wrong, one of my favorite things about Joss Whedon is how he uses humor to really give his sad moments Extra Punch he’s a master of that
but this is just jarring
“please be a secret door please be a secret door” followed by the world’s tiniest and most adorable “~yay~” is the most endearing thing Tony has ever done in his life I would die for him
The Problem Is Not Brucetasha.
THE PROBLEM is that the BruceTasha dynamic doesn’t just come out of left field, it comes from a different sport entirely. it comes from another planet.
I think there’s potential for an interesting dynamic here but we get ZERO buildup to it
like in the last movie, Natasha is scared of the Hulk, like, literally shaking in shock TERRIFIED of the Hulk, but we see nothing of her deciding to run directly at the thing that scares her most
and we get ZERO explanation of like -- Natasha likes Bruce AND the Hulk, and Bruce AND the Hulk both like Natasha and that’s an interesting dynamic too, but we get NONE OF THAT
it’s very frustrating
also, where does Wanda’s horror movie aesthetic go? is it the same place her accent goes?
Tony’s dream sequence is... p badly shot, given that it’s his driving motivation for THE REST OF THE SERIES
Me: this is weirdly shot, right?
The Roommate, A Professional: Yes. *in a very fancy voice:* ~From a cinematic perspective~
Me: *starts cracking up*
The Roommate: But seriously, they’ve gone for a weirdly wide angle in this very emotional moment and it would make more sense to do tight shots here, but--
Me: *still cracking up*
The Roommate: really?
Me: ~from a cinematic perspective~ trolololol
AND LITERALLY HERE IS WHERE WE GET THE TITLE CARD. THAT’S HOW LONG, SPIRITUALLY, THIS OPENING IS.
Why was Bruce NOT expecting a Code Green? like? It’s HYDRA, of COURSE they’re gonna pull out all the stops??
We get like two minutes of Thor&Steve&Tony being bros, for the purpose of exposition here, and then the party sequence, and literally the rest of the movie is them all arguing with each other
and we stopped the movie again to talk for ten minutes about how much more Impactful AVENGERS: CIVIL WAR would be if we had even one (1) movie of the Avengers actually being a team
this is exactly why it took us two days to watch this movie
“Uh, actually, he's the boss. I just pay for everything, and design everything and make everyone look cooler.”
And again, we stopped the movie (seriously, it’s our own fault this took so long to watch) because LET’S UNPACK THIS
TONY PAYS FOR EVERYTHING?
TONY MAKES ALL THEIR SHIT?
TONY DOES THEIR DESIGN WORK?
AND LET US NOT FORGET THAT SHIELD RECENTLY FELL APART
WHICH MEANS THAT THIS IS STARK INDUSTRIES PRESENTS: the avengers
and that is A L A R M I N G
legally speaking
and also morally speaking
like goddamn.
no wonder ppl freak out about it? let’s jump on THAT for CW
(also, when we recapped this for the Gal Pal’s benefit on Day Two, she pointed out that Tony puts his name on everything and he probably got that from his daddy -- like in TFA, they’re doing this experiment for the Army but LITERALLY EVERY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT has the Stark Industries tag on it
Steve probably has the SI logo tattooed on his ass
he doesn’t know it
tony knows it
and wishes he didn’t)
all that aside, this is an A+ On Point Steve and i Strongly Disagree with anyone who says that Joss Whedon doesn’t get Steve Rogers.
Like, we very clearly get three distinct Steves in this movie -- we get Captain America, Captain Rogers, and Steve, and they’re all a little different but they’re also all perfectly executed and they’re all STEVE. eg:
the look that he gives Maria, like english please and then after her explanation he says “well they’re going to show up again.” - Captain Rogers.
“Right. What kind of monster would let a German scientist experiment on them to protect their country” - Steve
“They are.” - Captain America
let’s just. let’s just acknowledge that Thanos had a stone. in his possession. and he gave it away. to L O K I.
“I'm going to live forever”
ah geeze he actually is tho
*CLINT FEELS*
They talk about AI like it’s this Great Forbidden Thing, and the Roommate looks at me with the Tiredest Eyes
Everyone is working on artificial intelligence, she says.
e v e r y o n e
seriously “the man was not meant to meddle medley” is a very impressive tongue twister that Tony definitely practiced in the mirror that morning
but it’s also nonsense
the military, corporations, academia, everyone -- everyone is working on AI.
Ultron: What is this. What is this, please.
The Roommate: Me. Every morning.
Also, it’s worth noting that when Ultron goes through all the files on the Avengers and shit, he looks at Steve AT LEAST twice.
The Roommate: To be fair, so would I.
RIGHT RHODES IS THE REAL HERO OF THIS FILM
“Where are the ladies,” said Maria Hill, a Known Lesbian.
Sam and Steve’s whole everything is A+ Great, as usual
Rhodey’s face after everyone laughs at the “Boom, you looking for this” line is just
*kissy chef fingers*
and then this happens
the “flirting”
this is the weirdest “flirting” i have ever seen
it’s like the uncanny valley of cute flirting
it’s like they’re both actors pretending to be characters who are acting out something they’ve only ever seen in film
why is it like this
“What Are Your Intentions Towards My Daughter?” - Steve Rogers
no I kid
Captain America said that
Steve said “as maybe the world’s leading authority on “waiting too long”, don’t.”
and then suddenly they’re all teens hanging out in their dad’s basement
honestly this scene is the best scene in the movie, possibly the franchise, and it’s well worth all the bullshit we’ve put up with so far.
let’s also take a moment to pour one out for both Steve and Thor’s #looks in this scene because
goddamn
Tumblr media
Steve and that blue button down
Thor and his hoe v-neck + pop collar maroon jacket
much fashion very hnnnngh
like it takes WORK to make these two look better with their shirts ON but you did it, AoU costume department. You Did It.
Also, James Spader as Ultron is just
i love it
gurl u r LEAKING
u CHOSE this body
u could have taken any iron legion body, you probably could’ve taken a SUIT if you wanted but instead you’re here in this janky ass leaking melty faced body with wires hanging every which way and the arms and legs on backwards
you are such a drama queen
truly his father’s son
so when Tony pulls out JARVIS’ broken corpse, how were they all supposed to know this was JARVIS? do they all get to meet Jarvis at some point? like at what point was Captain America introduced to the holograph representation of JARVIS’ “body” that he just IMMEDIATELY knows that this abstract yellow humpty dumpty is JARVIS
Team Dr. Cho Was Underutilized 2k15
Tony laughing because he’s about to be in so much trouble is very much a #mood
We can bust arms dealers all the live long day, but, that up there? That's...that's the end game.
I’m just going to present this bad phone picture of my notes because I feel like it does a better job summing up how I feel about this line:
Tumblr media
remember when Wanda had an accent?
I’d say “good times” but I’m not sure they really were
seriously the Maximoffs have a great origin story this should’ve been theirs and Clint’s movie that would’ve been better
God Bless The AoU Costume Department
I have no idea what happened in this scene because of Steve’s smedium shirt
and that said he has to compete, visually, with Cobie Smulders in a sheath dress, and he does so with effortless grace
*distinguished golf clapping*
I actually really like the set up of Wakanda and Vibranium here it’s just nice and it gives all the background we need without really feeling like exposition and it reveals character dynamic between steve and tony it’s just nice is all
SALVAGE YARD AFRICAN COAST
Andy Serkis giving 112% AS USUAL
So Ultron steps into this scene like
Tumblr media
and tbh it is a sexy leg good work Ultron
“I’M NOT MY DAD” -Ultron, definitely in Denial
Pietro talking to Tony in this scene like Tony was personally there when the bomb blew up his family and almost killed him and his sister
he wasn’t
u r drax in this scenario, and Tony is Ronan
he doesn’t remember ur family, dude
“pretending you could live without a war”
are we just going to ignore that Ultron gets inside Steve’s head right here right now and then Wanda exacerbates that 200%
and Steve just decides “yup that sounds right”
“i guess I’ll just be at war for the rest of my unnaturally long long life”
is anyone? going to talk about that? bring it up to him maybe?
no?
coooooool coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcool
i just ~love~ (and by love i mean HATE) that natasha romanoff (A SPY) decided to upgrade her suit (HER BLACK STEALTH SUIT) with glowing (GLOWING!) stripes
much stealth very in character wow
(negative 200 points costume department what the hell)
pietro don’t hit senior citizens that’s rude
these dreams are actually totally fascinating and I really like them don’t @ me they’re great
“I Am Mighty.”
“only the breakable ones. You are made of marble”
“We can go home. Imagine it”
aaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
“Natasha, I could really use a lullaby”
natasha isn’t here right now please leave a message after the beepbeep
this is such a fucking nightmare, could be a callback to that opening fight scene IF IT SUCKED LESS
Tony. Your green son has a special need. maybe instead of trying to turn him back into Bruce, you should try to accommodate his needs. because he’s special.
Clint MacDonald Had A Farm
“These are... Smaller agents.”
“Sorry For Barging In.”
Captain America is here from the 40s and Ready To Apologize
Thor’s Extremely Dramatic Exit
Steve: looks at the house
(very softly in the background, Peggy’s “we can go home.”)
The Roommate: nuuuuuuuuuuuuuu steve don’t think thaaaaaaaat
I honestly love Old Dad Clint. *shrug* sorry not sorry
and now we’re here. at That Scene.
YOU KNOW WHICH ONE.
it makes no FUCKING sense for EITHER OF THEM to be having THIS CONVERSATION at THIS TIME. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK.
Honestly, the only way this makes sense is if Bruce and Nat are both ace af and think the other one is allo af
just two hopeless asexual babies, adorably in love with each other
both of them awkwardly being like “BUT. YOU WANT THE SEX. RIGHT?”
and neither of them realizing that the other one also does not want the sex
that’s the only way the scene makes any kind of sense. If Natasha is putting on a performance and Bruce is too and neither of them realize that the other is putting on a performance
BUT EVEN THAT DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHY NATASHA FEELS THE NEED TO BRING UP HER UTERUS
LIKE
THERE’S NO NEED FOR IT IN THIS CONVERSATION
AND THE WAY SHE BRINGS IT UP IS B I Z A R R E
and when i saw it in theaters, I was like “oh clearly this scene is missing some important dialogue that clarifies that Nat doesn’t mean she’s a monster for not being able to have kids.
BUT I WAS WRONG.
UGH ANYWAY MOVING ON.
god bless the AoU costume department for Steve in a Smedium shirt and Dad Jeans. A+ work i can almost forgive you for putting glowing neon on Nat’s stealth suit
but honestly the whole rest of this movie is worth it this one interaction:
Tony: Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the "why" we fight, so we can end the fight, so we get to go home?
Steve:
Tumblr media
Captain America: *externally* something something end a war something something people die something something
Steve: *internally* I SWEAR TO FUCK IF ONE MORE PERSON TELLS ME THEY WANT TO GO HOME, IMMA MCFREAKING LOSE IT.
YOU WANT TO GO HOME?? Y O U WANT TO GO HOME??? B I T C H
oh hey Tony ur dad is here
“watched my friends die” ok but
a) are you and Steve friends?
b) if this has been eating at you, why wasn’t it shot better ~from a cinematic perspective~ and why don’t we get more of you being haunted by it and less of you talking about reinstating prima nocta
Actually this is a good time to talk for a hot second about Why We Don’t Hate AoU As Much As Some:
it’s very hard to judge AoU as a standalone film
because a lot of the things it does best are not standalone
it does a good job setting the stage for Civil War
it does a good job foreshadowing Infinity War and Endgame
and on that note, it’s actually hard to judge it without having seen Endgame
it does a BAD job setting up the Avengers as a cohesive unit that works well together
it does a BAD job building the BruceNat dynamic
it does a BAD job making us believe that the Avengers are actually friends and not just coworkers who tolerate each other and sometimes hang out and drunkenly try to pick up thor’s hammer
that isn’t friendship, actually. you know what friendship is? look at Steve and Sam talking about Important Things That Matter, look at Tony and Rhodes’ dynamic. those are friendships.
anyway
The Roommate says it feels like AoU skipped some steps. Like, Avengers (2012) brought us in at the ground floor of this building and then we got shoved into one of those really fast elevators and dumped directly into some game changer meeting happening on floor 44 and then it kicked us directly out the window to our deaths
i’m maybe elaborating slightly upon what she said
the point is that AoU is not a good movie because it’s not a good standalone movie
the character dynamics aren’t Bad or Wrong they’re just not properly built up to.
It feels like we missed a movie
maybe there’s an alternate universe where we got an Avengers 2 that made sense, and this is actually Avengers 3
maybe we just need to find Joss Whedon’s secret file of fanfiction and then everything that happened in this movie will make sense
ALL THAT SAID, THIS IS WHERE WE STOPPED THE MOVIE ON DAY ONE AND MY FINGERS ARE TIRED SO THIS IS WHERE I’M STOPPING TOO. AGE OF ART MOVIE DAY 2 WILL BE UP WHEN I FIND THE ENERGY TO DO THAT.

The One With the Zombies - AshEiji - Ch7
Title: The One With the Zombies
Chapter: 7
Word Count: 4022
Description:  Another what it says on the tin from me - it's a Zombie Apocalypse AU because how else could this anime/manga get any darker? Whilst on the run from the outbreak of zombies, reporters Ibe and Eiji stumble across a New York street gang, safely huddled in an abandoned warehouse. As if the undead weren't surprising enough, Eiji finds himself becoming closer and closer to the gang's leader, mysteriously dubbed Ash Lynx. But safety doesn't last forever and soon it's only Ash and Eiji. And they're up against more than just zombies.
Note: This is available on A03, and I would recommend you follow it there, as I remember to update it. I would post a link, but then Tumblr wouldn’t include it in search results.
7
Eiji had read Peter Pan once. He distinctly remembered a part that mentioned whenever the Lost Boys were growing up, Peter would take them out to the forest and would return on his own. With a grim look on his face. As he looked at Ash he decided that was what it had meant. It was exactly the look he had on his face as he walked through the door.
They'd been given one of the backrooms, still mostly full of storage boxes containing ready-made sweet n' sour sauce and curries and easy cook rice. Ash Lynx was important, apparently. Eiji had found that out as he'd sat on the air mattress, freshly washed but still with blood stuck under his finger nails. One of the boys - one of the younger ones - the one Eiji had heard Shorter call Soo-Ling - had leant against the door and stared at him.
"Do you even know who he is?" he has asked.
"Who?"
"That's Ash Lynx you're tagging along with."
"I know." Eiji's voice sounded strange to him. Much too calm and soft for how he was feeling inside. Inside was a maelstrom.
"But do you? Really?"
"He's a gang leader."
"He's the reason the gangs stopped fighting. He was the reason Chinatown was doing so good. He is a legend," Soo-Ling was almost misty eyed as he said it. "So who are you?"
"Tired," Eiji replied. Soo-Ling looked surprised at that answer and Eiji felt his cheeks grow hot. He laughed and finished drying his hair with a towel that stunk of mildew. "Eiji Okumura. I was a journalist. Kind of."
"Kind of?"
"I was mainly just along for the ride."
Soo-Ling stared at him for a long time with dark eyes. "There must be more to you than that."
Eiji shrugged. "Sorry to disappoint you."
Soo-Ling kept staring, like he was waiting for a more satisfying response. When he didn't get one, he had sunk to the floor, pulling a D.S out of his hoodie pocket and playing it with earphones in. Eiji wasn't sure if that meant they were friends or not.
It seemed like an age before he was called away to go on watch, leaving Eiji alone again. That was when Ash returned. At first he had been relieved - incredibly relieved, because the blood had been scrubbed away and his hair had never looked so blonde.
Then he had seen the expression on Ash's face.
Neither of them said a word. Eiji wished he could - wished he did know what to say. But he knew there was nothing. Something had happened - something he could guess at and he knew that Ash wasn't going to talk about it.
Ash had lay on the air mattress without saying a word, his back to Eiji. Eiji was so exhausted that he followed suit, feeling aches pulse through his body from the bicycle ride.
He hadn't been sleeping when he heard it. The gasps of air of someone trying desperately to hide that they were crying. He half rolled over to see Ash's shoulders shaking.
It was always easier not to say a word. He shuffled around and slipped an arm around Ash, pulling him against him gently. Ash turned easily, folding himself under Eiji's chin and still trying to find air to gulp down.
Eiji just kept hold of him, their legs tangled in a mess and Ash's hair tickling his face. It smelt of the carbonic soap that had been in the bathroom.
He had laid there until dawn, drifting in and out of consciousness.
Eiji's fingers hovered over Ash's hair. He had the urge to brush it off of his face, but paused. He didn't know how Ash would take that.
Instead he crept out of the room. The main restaurant was full of people sitting around. Some were cleaning guns, others knives. Eiji wished he'd kept the chainsaw, though he had no idea how they would have carried it here.
Soo-Ling wasn't around, so he found Shorter. He was easy to spot - hunched over a takeaway box of noodles and slurping them into his mouth.
"Eiji, right?" he asked as Eiji jumped up onto the table next to him. His legs swung embarrassingly off the ground.
"Yes. Shorter, right?"
"That’s right."
"Is that your  real name?"
Shorter smiled at him. "A Chinese kid can't be called Shorter naturally?"
Eiji blinked and it made Shorter laugh. There was a lot less laughter here than there had been with Ash's gang and it sounded harsh against the silence. Everyone was drooping. They glanced around at the slightest of sounds or movements and moved rarely but quickly, as if they were trying to preserve their energy. Shorter seemed to be the only one unaffected, but he still had dark smudges under his eyes.
"How's Ash?" Shorter asked, continuing to eat.
"Sleeping."
"It's not his real name, you know."
"What?"
"Ash," Shorter paused to slurp some more noodles. Eiji waited. "That's not his real name. He chose it. Ash Lynx. Lynxes can't be tamed."
Eiji wasn't sure what to say to that. It made sense - Ash Lynx hadn't sounded like a name anyone could have been born with. He wanted to ask why he chose that – why it was important to him that lynxes can’t be tamed. He wanted to ask what Ash’s real name was. But it wasn’t Shorter’s place to say – he wanted to hear it from Ash. To see Ash open up to him.
It would probably never happen.
"He saw his brother, didn't he?" he asked instead.
"Did he tell you what happened?" Shorter seemed like he knew the answer already from the look that he gave Eiji.
"Not a word."
"There was a gunshot." Shorter said it so simply. It was a matter of fact. It told Eiji all he needed to know – all he had suspected.
"Poor Ash," he said, mainly to himself.
"Poor Ash, what?" a sudden, loud voice said in his ear. There was an arm around his shoulders, Shorter's too, and in the next moment Ash's face appeared between them. His eyes were still puffy and it sounded like he had a blocked nose. Eiji decided to ignore that.
"Poor Ash hasn't had a cigarette for two days," he said. He glanced at Shorter, who smiled at him.
"Yeah, and I'm not sharing mine."
"Are you kidding me? After all I've done for you?"
"Get fucked, Lynx."
"Fuck you." Ash blew his fringe from his face. "I know I should have brought that hand with us. Traded it."
"I wouldn't have let you," Eiji said. He leant against Ash slightly - just so that he could feel him there.
"What hand?"
"Eiji got a zombie hand attached to him. Snapped clean off."
"That's fucking sick!" Shorter was grinning. "Was it moving?"
"Ew, no." Eiji grimaced at the thought.
"Shame. Would have been really interesting." He gave Ash a sideways glance from over his sunglasses. “Would have been worth a pack of tobacco. Maybe even a little weed.”
“Why am I even friends with you?”
“Because I needed someone to protect my pretty face in juvie.” Shorter laughed, taking hold of Ash’s chin and making him laugh too.
"Juvie?" Eiji echoed.
"Juvenile hall," Ash explained and had the decency to look embarrassed. At the confused stare Eiji gave him, he continued. "Prison for kids."
"We got in trouble a fair bit in our youth," Shorter said. He leant into Ash, pushing him further into Eiji and almost sending the three of them off the edge of the table.
“Because you’re so wise and worldly,” Ash elbowed Shorter back.
Eiji didn't know why he was surprised. Of course Ash had been to juvenile hall. Of course he'd been arrested. He was a gang leader. But he had never thought of Ash intentionally breaking the law. Of robbing or shooting actual people - people with jobs and lives. Living people. He'd Ash would have a past like that. That made him a criminal.
But Ash was good. Ash was a good person, Eiji knew that.
So did it matter that he had been to ‘juvie?’ What if he had been to actual prison? Did that change things? Eiji didn’t think it did. It should have. But it didn’t. This was the same boy that defended his English, taught him how to shot a gun and who picked him up in a farmhouse. The same Ash. What did his past matter?
“I bet Eiji’s been in more trouble than us,” Shorter said, and he had the condescending tone of someone who knew the answer.
“No.” Eiji wasn’t sure if he imagined Ash’s arm squeezing him tighter or not. “I’m just – ordinary.”
“Yeah, that’s him. Completely ordinary, right?” Soo-Ling appeared, headphones hanging around his neck. He stared at Eiji as though he was waiting for him to come out with a confession.
“Soo-Ling – how’s it going?” Shorter asked.
The boy shrugged. “Everyone’s still dead. Found a quarter by the door, though.”
“Eiji’s not ordinary,” Ash said. His chin was buried in Eiji’s hair. “He’s Okumura Eiji, walker-slayer.”
“Just call them zombies!” Eiji turned, pushing against Ash’s arm so that he had space.
“Mmm, I don’t want to be offensive.” Ash was smirking, tilting his head to the side in mock-consideration.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“You’re adorable.”
“We have a no kissing rule!” Soo-Ling said loudly.
That made Ash pull away suddenly – Eiji did too, fixing his gaze on the floor. He felt his face burning as Ash yelped, “what?!”
“The two of you were flirting.” Soo-Ling shrugged, taking a tray of Chinese food from a passing kid and tucking into it before they could object. They flipped the bird at him and he flipped one back. “I don’t want to see you making out.”
To his surprise, Ash laughed, slipping his arm back around Eiji’s shoulders.
“You know, one day, you might not mind it so much,” Ash said. His hand caught Eiji’s chin and suddenly he was staring into green eyes inches away from his face. He was sure that Ash would be able to hear his heartbeat. “Right, sweetie?”
Eiji froze. He couldn’t talk, swallow or blink. He could only stare at those eyes. Ash could smile with his eyes.
“Nope, still prefer a good chow mein,” Soo-Ling said, over Shorter’s loud laughter.
Ash paused, for a moment looking as though he was going to kiss Eiji’s forehead, but then he was turning away and pulling the cigarette from behind Shorter’s ear and slipping it into his mouth.
Shorter jumped up immediately, reaching for it. Ash managed to duck and weave away, still chuckling. The others started to cheer each of them on, shouting like they were watching an American Football game.
Eiji watched with a smile fixed on his face. He wanted to join in on the fun, but he felt strange. He hadn’t expected to talk things over with Ash about what had happened last night. But he also hadn’t expected the flirting. There were a lot of things he didn’t know about Ash, he realised. Then, there was a lot of things he wanted to know about Ash.
There was a lot of things he wanted to know about Ash, but he wasn’t sure if he could now that there had been the kiss. The kiss and the pet name that didn’t mean anything because it was all just teasing or adrenaline.
If his racing heart was anything to go by, at least.
*
Ash broke again that night. That was his own phrasing. It wasn’t like crying. It wasn’t mourning or grieving or sobbing. It was breaking cleanly in half like a geode and being completely naked. It was opening the floodgate of shit that he had done and being forced to think about it all until his brain decided to give up completely.
He had seen Griffin behind his eyelids all day. Griffin’s pale face and lank hair and defeated eyes. His smile as he said Ash was almost a man. It had almost been like he was proud. Proud. Of Ash. That didn’t make sense. And he knew he wouldn’t have been if Ash had told the truth. He wouldn’t have called Ash a man. Not in the slightest. He didn’t deserve that praise.
Eiji’s arms appeared again, pulling him close without a word. He was shaking slightly as he found a grip on Ash’s vest. But then he just lay there, holding Ash as if he would be able to catch all of the pieces breaking off of him. As if he would be able to put Ash back together with his bare hands.
If anyone could, it would be Eiji. Eiji, who had basically learnt English in two weeks. Eiji, who had stayed up with Ash every time he was on duty, just to keep him company. Eiji, who had a smile like a firework. He wasn’t jealous of that genuinely happy smile. He just wanted to watch the show.
And Eiji had been the one who looked terrified when Ash had put his arm around him. When he had turned on the charm partly to tease him – partly to see if he would go along with it. He wasn’t sure if he had wanted Eiji to go along with it. How quickly would his stomach turn? And he wasn’t sure how he felt about the blushing, staring face. He had looked almost scared.
Ash hadn’t wanted him to be scared. But it was probably better than going along with it without hesitation. Maybe it was worth it – just to see that blush. It had made Ash’s heart pound. He wasn’t sure what was up with that.
He gripped Eiji’s t-shirt in his hands to get his attention – just in case he had somehow fallen asleep.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
Eiji was quiet for a moment. His hand moved up Ash’s back, as if he was expecting him to move back. He stayed frozen. There was a tiny blue light from a freezer at the back, but It wasn’t enough to see by. Just to help provide silhouettes.
“Ash?”
“I didn’t mean to,” Ash continued.
“It was what you had to do,” Eiji murmured.
That made Ash frown. It clicked in the next moment. “You’re talking about the other night.”
“You’re not?”
“I meant earlier.”
“Oh,” Eiji took a breath. “It was fine.” The breath meant that it wasn’t fine. Not really. “We don’t have to talk about it. You don’t have to talk about anything.”
“I don’t know what to talk about,” Ash whispered. He tightened his grip, pulling Eiji towards him as if he would be able to hide in his chest. “We weren’t close. Not anymore. When I was a kid. Before he left. Before I left.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault.”
Eiji’s thumb started to rub circles into the small of Ash’s back. “Let me be sorry anyway.”
His breath escaped him a burst that strained his skin like he was a balloon. Eiji pressed him closer without saying a word.
“I don’t know what I was thinking earlier.” He continued.
“Don’t worry about it.” Eiji said. He swallowed and his voice sounded thick when he continued. “Let’s just not talk about it.”
So Ash did. He kept quiet and thought about how warm Eiji’s arms were around him. About Eiji’s smell filling his senses. Carbolic soap. He could fall asleep like this. He felt safe and comfortable.
"Ash?" Eiji asked. He managed to make a small sound in response. "Have you heard from Ibe-san?"
"No." Ash could feel Eiji's heart sinking. "He probably has his phone off. To keep his battery."
"'Mm."
"You'll be safe here, with Shorter. Until they get here."
"Why are you using 'you?'"
"What do you mean?"
"You said I'll be safe here until Ibe-san comes. What about you?"
Ash took a breath. He raised a hand without meaning to and found his fingers in Eiji's thick hair.
"I don't think it's a good idea for you to stay with me."
He had been thinking it all day. Since yesterday. It was something that was much easier to say in the dark.
"I'm not leaving you," Eiji said, like it was obvious.
"Don't be stupid, Eiji." Ash sat up, scattering the old picnic blanket and hoodies they had been using as duvets. "You'll be perfectly fine with Max and Ibe. He's meant to be looking after you, right? I'm not-"
"You've done a better job of saving my life than Ibe-san did." Eiji sat too and the blue spark from the machine was reflected in his eyes. "You saved my life."
"I'm the reason your life was in danger."
"My life would have been in danger anyway."
"This isn't up for debate. I'm not - I'm not someone you should be around."
"There's no debate. I'm staying."
Ash huffed and wiped the leftover tears from his face with the palm of his hand. He stayed staring at the door with gritted teeth so that he wouldn't fall for those puppy dog eyes.
"No. You're not."
"I am." Eiji said, and when Ash glanced over he saw that Eiji had his arms crossed. " Of course I would want to be around you. You're my best friend."
"You've known me for two weeks."
"And I feel closer to you than any of my friends in Japan."
"Eiji-"
"What makes you someone I can't be around?"
There was a sudden knock on the door. It was so loud and abrupt that Ash almost jumped. Eiji did, jogging the air mattress.
"If you're not going to sleep, then could you go on watch?"
It was Shorter's voice and he sounded amused.
"Sure," Ash replied, without looking at Eiji. He pulled the door to the storeroom shut and had every intention of just leaving. But then he glanced back. Eiji was staring at him with a determined expression on his face.
He hadn't won the argument.
"What makes you someone he doesn't want to be around, Ash?" Shorter was smiling slightly as he kept pace with him over to the door.
“You can choose from a list of slurs. Whore is a popular one.”
“You honestly think he’ll care?”
“Of course, he fucking will.”
“Because I care so much, you know.” Shorter’s voice was dripping with sarcasm. He held out a rollie between his fingers, almost taunting Ash with it. Ash took it, flicking sparks from his lighter as he lit it. He held it in his mouth, but didn’t breathe in.
“You’re different.” Ash shoved his hands into his hoodie pockets, hunching his shoulders as he stared out onto the empty street. It was normally still full of taxis and tourists.
“I’m not pretty?” Shorter raised an eyebrow. He took a drag from his own cigarette and the smoke came out in puffs.
“Oh, you’re gorgeous. And you grew up with this life.” Ash finally took a drag, taking the cigarette from between his lips. Fuck, it felt good. He had known the craving was bad – enough to drive him insane. He hadn’t known how deep the relief would be.
"With zombies?"
Ash looked at him and simply rolled his eyes. Shorter just laughed.
"What did you think would happen? That you'd never meet someone normal and settle down?"
"Did you?"
"Of course.” Shorter leant against the doorframe. “Cute house, cute kids, cute wife.”
“Cute.”
“’Course, you might want to change the cute wife part.”
“Is this a roundabout way of asking me if I’m gay?”
Shorter shrugged.
“Fucking Max asked me the same thing.”
“Who the fuck is that?”
“Some dick my brother knew.” Ash paused. “You know, just because some pedo made me blow him doesn’t mean I’m gay.”
It was hard to say, as if he was talking through a hard lump in his throat. He heard his voice crack and gritted his teeth. Tobacco fell from the end of his cigarette and onto the floor. It curled there like tiny worms.
“That wasn’t what I was thinking.” Shorter said. His voice was soft and gentle. Like he was trying to tame a wild horse.
Ash blew his bangs away from his face and didn’t reply. There was a sick feeling settling himself in his stomach – fighting against the anger in his chest.
“I was thinking of the way that you look at him.” Shorter continued.
“Don’t know what you mean.”
“You let your guard down around him. I’ve never seen you do that before. With anyone,” Shorter said. “The fact that he’s a guy doesn’t matter.”
“Of course it fucking does.”
“Why?”
Ash didn’t look at him. He shrugged his shoulders and felt younger than ever. It did. It did matter. Of course it did, because Ash’s body had not been his own. His sexuality hadn’t been up for debate. It was finally his. He was finally free of what everyone had stuck on his back.
“It doesn’t matter what I am,” Ash said. “He’s not. Eiji’s not-“
Not like the others. Wouldn’t be like the others. But how would Ash know? Eiji had saved his life. He trusted him. Completely. Eiji was different.
“How do you know?”
Ash tossed the cigarette onto the floor and felt the heat through the thin sole of his trainer. It didn’t matter. It couldn’t matter. He wouldn’t let it matter. These weren’t things that he could think about.
They were things he didn’t want to think about. It meant acknowledging too much. Dealing with too many feelings that he’d set on fire long ago.
"I don't think past tomorrow,” he said.
"We'll survive this, Ash."
"And how are you so confident?" Ash rested his head on the doorframe, turning to look at Shorter. He could feel a smile on his face, despite his better judgement.
"Because I'm me." Shorter shrugged. "And when this is all over, you better not let that boy go."
He turned to leave, the slope of his shoulders showing how utterly exhausted he was.
"Who are you, his mother?"
"If that's what it takes to see you smile."
Ash gave a disbelieving huff, turning his attention back to the street.
He had been smiling, hadn't he? He smiled all the time. No, it wasn't a smile, it was a smirk. Ash smirked at people. But there had been times where that smirk had turned into something else. Those times were normally with Eiji. When Eiji was grinning up at him with the eyes of a puppy. As if Ash was his friend unconditionally.
And maybe he was. Maybe he would be.
But Ash couldn't take that chance. He couldn’t afford to take that chance. It was selfish, but he wanted to keep those puppy dog eyes for as long as he could. Before he had to say goodbye. There was a feeling in his gut that told him this wasn't going to last. It couldn't last.
A walker was stumbling towards him. Its arms jerked in front of it as if it wanted to find its way and yet realised how cliche it was.
Ash took the shotgun that was resting on the side of the door and checked the silencer was on it. He flicked the safety off and took aim. Probably, he could have left it to shuffle past, but he was pissed off now.
It turned to him. For a moment, he could see Griffin's features staring back at him. The same blank eyes.
But then he blinked and this was an entirely different man. A man with a beard and wrinkles around his eyes.
Ash took the shot. The men fell with a soft thump to the floor.
It was easy. Too easy. The kind of easy that made him think Shorter could be right - that there was an end to all this.
And yet he could see more shapes down the road. Could hear a building front being torn into.
They may have been safe for now, but it was still impossible to think past tomorrow.

The Day the Music Died Final Chapter
Tumblr media
Title: The Day the Music Died Final Chapter
Summary: In 1959, a plane crash tragically took the lives of three musicians and their pilot. But the mysterious circumstances send the Winchester brothers on an adventure. Now they have a mystery to solve…before one of them joins the other three.
Warnings: Just emotional
AN: Another big shoutout to @anathewierdo for helping me with the Spanish in this fic! Thank you so much for everyone who has read this!
Present
“Dean. Dean. Despierta. Vamos, sé que estoy hablando en español pero tu nombre no es diferente en mi idioma.” Ritchie said, hovering around Dean who was tied to a desk chair. Dean started to wake up, groaning as he did. “Gracias a Dios.”
“Ritchie?” Dean asked, groaning some. He was really surprised that Sam didn’t have more permanent brain damage from getting knocked out so much. It was painful and unpleasant...and he had done his fair share of knocking his brother out before.
“Temía que Corson te matara.” Ritchie said. He knew Dean couldn’t understand him, but he always talked when he was nervous. Dean looked around, hoping that Cas could bounce back quickly from being blasted away, but no such luck.
“Ritchie, where is Corson?” Dean asked.
“I’m right here Dean.” Corson said, strutting up to Dean. “You were playing with my toys, that’s not very nice.”
“Hijo de perra, si pudiera matarte, lo haría. Espero que Dean te mate. Espero que sea doloroso y...”
“Ritchie, shut up.” Corson said, looking back at the ghost. Ritchie instantly couldn’t talk anymore. Dean looked between him and Corson.
“What did you do to him?” He asked. Corson laughed.
“The same thing I’ve been doing to him since 1959.” Corson pulled up another chair to sit down in front of Dean. “It’s actually quite fun. You should try it sometime.”
“Why him?” Dean asked. Corson shrugged.
“Wrong place at wrong time.” He said. “I took JP Richardson’s soul because he sold it. So that was my first golden ticket. Then watching Buddy Holly die without his “true love” Maria, that was number two. I knew she was pregnant, I just didn’t know that his death would hurt her so bad. Considering I snagged her from the 90’s in the first place, trying my hand out at time travel.” He laughed. “So what was I supposed to do with poor little Richard Valenzuela? I like torture after all. So I decided that it would be best to keep him trapped here, as a ghost of course. Tied to the town he died at. He has to watch as everyone he ever knew and loved grew up and moved on. He had to watch as the world changed around him. Seventeen years old and in love, and he can’t even do anything about it.”
“God, you’re one sick son of a bitch.” Dean growled.
“I wanted to get Waylon Jennings on the flight, cut that career before it even started, but that drummer Sam Winchester walked in on me at the wrong time. So of course he had to die.”
“You killed my brother!” Dean shouted, pulling on the restraints.
“At first, I didn’t know he was your brother. I was just going off of Buddy’s memories. After I dumped him on the plane and high tailed it out of there, I realized who he was, from the prophecies and the plans that Azazel was talking about.” Dean just stared the demon down. “Now now, don’t worry. I bet he didn’t feel a thing when he hit the ground. I’m sure none of them felt it when they were thrown out of the plane.” Corson laughed.
“I am going to kill you.” Dean said in a low, more threatening voice.
“I’d like to see that.” Corson patted Dean’s knee as he stood up. “But you see, you’re nice and tied up. And all I have to do is tell Ritchie here to kill you, and you’re dead.”
“You don’t know me and my brother very well, do you?” Dean asked. “We don’t like to stay dead.”
“Oh, I know all about that. But I have confidence that this time, you won’t be coming back.” Corson smirked. “I have strings that I can pull and suddenly Dean and Sam Winchester are no more.”
“¡Es suficiente!” Ritchie screamed, breaking through Corson’s spell. Corson turned to look at the ghost when Ritchie attacked him. Dean’s eyes widened as he watched the wrestling match between the ghost and the demon. The doors flew open then and Cas walked in. He immediately went over to Dean, touching the ropes on his arms and making them fall away. Dean stood up, knife in hand, as Corson threw Ritchie off of him. Cas grabbed the demon, holding him still, while Dean stabbed him in the chest.
Yellow and orange danced under the skin of the body he was using. Once it stopped, Cas dropped the body to the floor. The angel and the hunter looked at each other before looking over at Ritchie.
“Ritchie? How do you feel?” Dean asked.
“Light.” He said. His eyes widened, realizing he was speaking in English. “What do I do?”
“Just relax and let yourself move on.” Cas said. Ritchie closed his eyes and he started to flicker, but a warm light surrounded him. When the light disappeared, so had Ritchie.
“Well, two things down, one more to go.” Dean said. “Cas, go get Sam.” Cas nodded and this time, he disappeared, leaving Dean standing in the middle of the museum.

1959
Sam groaned as he came to, confused to where he was. It was a little bathroom, very cramped. He rubbed at his head, trying to ease the pain, when the room he was in gave a rough jerk. He managed to find the door then and opened it to show he was on an airplane.
“No.” Sam whispered, looking around. He saw Ritchie and JP sitting, looking terrified. And that’s when Buddy came out of the cockpit, a wicked smile on his face.
“Don’t worry Sam. I’m leaving.” With that, his head threw back and black smoke flew from his mouth. Buddy’s body fell to the ground, blood leaking from his mouth. Sam ran to him while looking up into the cockpit. Roger Peterson sat in his seat, head leaning back from his throat being slit. The dashboard was completely destroyed, so even if Sam could figure out how to land the plane safely and save them all, he couldn’t.
“S-Sam.” A low voice said. Sam looked down at Buddy. He was coughing on blood and his eyes were half closed, but he was still alive. He wasn’t dead like the demon had thought he was. “A-are w-w-we going to d-die?” Sam just closed his eyes and held his hand tightly. He heard a choked cry come from Ritchie. He reached out and held his hand. He looked up at JP for a second.
“I’m so sorry.” JP whispered. Sam looked away from him and closed his eyes again, holding onto Buddy and Ritchie as he started to hum, trying to keep himself calm before he died.
“Sam!” A familiar voice said before behind him. Sam’s eyes snapped open to see Cas standing there. He walked to Sam and grabbed his arm, pulling him away from Buddy and Ritchie.
“S-Sam!” Buddy called out, reaching for him. But Cas held on to him and took him away.
Right as the plane smashed into the ground.
****
Present
Dean was pacing in the motel room, waiting for Cas to come back. He had just turned the other way when he heard what sounded like feathers rustling. He spun around to see Cas standing there with a visibly shaken Sam. He had blood on him from Buddy, a bruise on his forehead, but he was alive.
“Sammy.” Dean said, crossing the room quickly and wrapping his arms around his brother. After a moment, he pulled back to examine him. “Is that your blood?”
“No. It’s Buddy’s.” Sam said.
“Buddy? Like Buddy Holly?” Dean asked. Sam nodded and looked over at the table, seeing his letter and the photos laying there.
“I see you met Maria.” Sam said. Dean nodded.
“She helped a lot.” Dean was still giving Sam and visual once over. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I…” He sighed, wanting to say that no, he wasn’t fine. He had just watched someone he had grown close to die by the hands of a demon. “I’m fine.”  Dean didn’t believe him, but he didn’t question it. “How did Cas get back there?”
“We killed the demon holding onto Ritchie and were able to get back to you.” Dean explained.
“That demon possessed Buddy and caused the plane to crash.” Sam explained. “JP sold his soul.” Dean nodded and went over to their bags, packing. “What are you doing?”
“I want to get the hell out of this town. I think we can go home.” Dean didn’t look at Sam as he packed, because in his mind, he was still seeing that newspaper article that showed that Sam had died right along with the others. Sam went to the bathroom to wash the grease out of his hair real quick. He wasn’t sure if Dean had seen it or not, but he didn’t want to give him the chance. Plus, he doubted he could handle it being in his hair all the way back to Kansas.
Once Sam was done, they packed up and got into the Impala. Cas had disappeared off to who knows where. But Dean really couldn’t care any right then. He just wanted to go home with his brother by his side. He started up the car, the radio turning on.
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
“Crap. I’ll turn that off.” Dean said. Sam shook his head.
“No, it’s okay.” Sam said, settling back in his seat. A smile spread on his face as he remembered the good times. He had only been there for three months, hanging out with Buddy, Maria, and Waylon. Eventually, he would tell Dean about everything that he had done and seen in those months, but for now, sitting back in the Impala beside Dean while Don McLean sang about his friends, well, Sam couldn’t ask for more.

Stray Kids On Tumblr / Felix
Chan // Woojin // Minho // Changbin // Hyunjin // Jisung // Felix // Seungmin // Jeongin
I have waited a long time to write this one
Half the reason i started this series was to write for him tbh
Anyways
Started his blog long before he became a trainee
But A LOT of effort into it
Spent hours looking for the perfect desktop theme
Then spent a day working on it to make it have is own little ‘felix flare’
And then spent hoooooours working on his mobile header
Naturally very proud of his blog
Works really hard to make good posts
Majority is just memes
Or recreations of memes
Reblogs a lot of old vines
He’s the type of blog to get all those weird random asks from people
And he always has witty comebacks
So sometimes his posts will blow up
He just has that typical tumblr humor
And it really made his blog blow up
Ends up having one famous post with like 100k reblogs and is still growing and he still thinks its the dumbest posts he’s made his whole life
But thats tumblr for you
Sometimes he’d be working on a big post
And then tumblr would do that dumb thing
Where it freezes on you and you cant post things
The amounts of times his family heard him yelling from up in his room as tumblr crashed on him yet again
anyways
Honestly wasn’t super aware of kpop
But like
Of course he knew about it
And then he made it through the audition
And he was like oh hey
I kinda gotta figure out whats going on here
So he
Like the smart person he is
Searches through the tumblr tag
And oh yikes
The majority of the tag was bts and got7
And he was like
Sweet
And then staff at the company told him watching kdramas will always help him learn korean
So
Because of this extreme change in his life
And the need to learn the language as fast as possible
He searches for some good kdramas to watch
So again he turns to tumblr
And he finds some good recommendations
But he cant reblog it to his main blog
Because ??? he cant expose himself like this to all he’s meme followers
So he real quick makes a side blog for all his kpop/kdrama needs
And reblogs a few kdrama recommendations
And a few kpop song recommendations as well
But he’s only find rec’s for all those old classic kdramas
Like playful kiss and boys over flowers
Not really his speed yah know
So thats when he stumbles across your blog
He had just found one of your posts about kdramas
And he real quick messages you on anon and was like hey have any recs
And you were like YES!!!1!!1!
So you gave him a good list
Grouping them by themes and such
And then highlighted some of your favorites
He ended up being drawn to one title
“Uncontrollably fond”
And you had mentioned that it was really sad
So he googled it to try and see what it was about
And when you google it one of the first things it says about the drama is
“A man and woman meet again after they broke up in the past.”
So he was like alright that one it is
Catch him later trying to find out who wrote that description because there was so much more to that drama
He literally could not put it down
Lowkey forgot half way through he was supposed to be trying to learn korean
Watched an episode every night before bed
Because yah know he was packing and stuff
Part of it helped with the stress of leaving his home and such
The other part was just because it was super addicting to watch
Of course he had to take a small break of watching it just because life got to hectic with packing and everything
But he had an overlay on the way to korea
So he watched the drama at the airport
Catch this teenage boy trying not to cry in the airport omg
As he sat in the airport he was like
I gotta talk to someone about this
So he searched up your blog again and left an ask
And because you’re always on tumblr you got it right away.
“Im sitting in the airport on the verge of tears because of uncontrollably fond why’d you recommend this to me”
You chuckled to yourself as you read his ask
“I told you it’d be sad!” you finally decided to answer
You had totally forgotten about the person who had asked for recs
It was nice to see them again
The two of you talked back and forth for a bit
And then you got a message
“I got tired of leaving asks so i’m just going to message you now. A lot easier.”
You asked him when his flight was, and how much of the show you had left
And he was like
Not enough time
He was to invested now
You recommended maybe waiting to watch the last few episodes until he was alone and had a box of tissues
Earning a laugh from him
Like the curious person you are
You asked him where he was going
And he just kinda said korea and then asked about the soundtrack to the drama
So you didn’t push anymore
Because it seemed like something he didn’t really want to talk about
So inteast you talked about the soundtrack
Found out he really really liked the song “a little braver”
So you listened to the song while you talked with him
While you waited for him to get back to you
You scrolled through his blog
It was kinda sad looking and had the default theme
And he had a random mix of kpop and kdrama recs
So you asked him if he was new to the whole kpop/kdrama world
And he was like “kinda”
Cue you saying if he ever wanted any recs on anything to ask you because you got him
And he just chuckled and said he had to catch his flight, but he’d remember that
And that he’d message you as soon as he finished the drama
Later in the week you got a message from some random meme blog
About uncontrollably fond
And you were like wtf
Why is this popular weird meme blog messaging me about a kdrama
So you were like um who???
And he was like shoot wrong blog!!
Then switched to his kpop blog
You laughed to yourself thinking about how yet another person had been converted to the dark side
Little did you know
He was PART OF the dark side
You followed his main blog too
Because why not
And the two of you talked a lot
You found out what a big jokester he was
And just how funny he could be
But that he was also super emotional and wore his feelings on his sleeve
The two of you went from talking about kdramas and random kpop things to little parts of your day
He’d complain to you about learning korean and the language barrier issues he’d always run into
And how tired he was at the end of the day
And you’d tell him about school
And the little things about your country you felt like he would like hearing about
The two of you never even exchanged names
Just referred to each other as your urls
Months past
He wasn’t on tumblr as much
Even his main blog started to stop posting
Which he always at least had queued up stuff
You’d leave him little encouraging messages every now and then
But he’d always take forever to respond
Instead
You occupied yourself with the new show jyp was putting out
Becoming way to invested for your own good
And getting especially drawn to a certain member named felix
Something felt familiar about him
And you felt really drawn to him
But you just assumed it was because of his personality
And the fact that he could speak english
Then the dreaded day came
Felix was eliminated
And you felt like the world had swallowed all your joy
You decided to message your kdrama friend
Just a simple hey
And he actually responded to your disbelief
He seemed just as down as you
So you two just ended up being sad together
And then you were like
Isn’t it like 3am there?
He was like yah
You were like ??? go to bed ???
He said he couldn’t fall asleep so you suggested watching a movie
So the two of you headed over to rabb.it
Ended up watching Your Name
Half way through the movie he ended up asking you why you were so upset
So you told him that your favorite person from a survival show had been eliminated
And you could see he wasn’t typing anything after you had sent the message off
So you asked him why he was upset
You watched him type something
Then delete it
Type it up again
Then delete it again
It went on for a bit before you little ‘pop’ sounded and his message came in
“I got eliminated off a survival show” it read
And you were ???
Do you take this seriously or not ???
So you just kinda said “are you okay”
And he was like maybe
So you asked how he was maybe okay
He replied by saying that it was nice to have someone to talk to who wasn’t in the show itself but also wasn’t family
Youre super confused now because this is felix you’ve been talking too???
When you actually sat back and thought about it
The timeline all made sense
It would make sense if this was actually felix
The movie now long forgotten played on as you asked him if he was really felix
And he responded with a funny little smilie face
“I am but you really can’t tell anyone”
“Felix aren’t you supposed to not be doing this? I thought they took away phones and stuff tho??”
He explained everything and it all made sense but you were still shook to the core because youre talking with the felix lee right now
But you took the chance to tell him everything every fan wanted to tell him at that moment
You told him how proud you and everyone else was of him
And how people were already working on making sure both him and minho ended up back in stray kids
And by the way he talked you could tell he was happier
Not much later you were excitedly congratulating him on making it back in
And everything was perfect
Because the weird person asking you about kdramas
Months and months later ended up being the person you loved the most
Without even knowing it
The two of you had a special secret friendship that no one knew about
And no one would know about for a long long time
And you were honestly okay with that

fanfic: First 5 prime numbers!
why would you force me, a writer and known dumbass, to try to remember math stuff
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
I was going to be extremely witty and paste in screenshots of the list of fandoms on my AO3, but tumblr is having a breakdown and won’t let me, so I’ll just go with the short answer: lots.
There are different things I like about all of the different canons - and fandoms - that I’ve written for. I love cheesy jokes no matter where I go, but I also like the rich mine of angst and garish darkness that the Lost Boys have to offer. I love the fairy-tale structure and the heady romance of Labyrinth, I like how I can basically just write original fiction when it comes to the X-Men and it’s probably canon to something somewhere, and I appreciate the challenge of trying to nail the tone of RAM while still keeping the depth of character and the core of sincerity and emotion that I’m gonna end up bringing to anything I write about. (And also, projecting. Did I mention projecting?)
ROTG in particular stands out for the sheer creative freedom the fandom encouraged - we made up an AU where several different versions of the main villain (English movie, Finnish dub, book, concept art) lived together and attended the same university (along with multiple versions of the other characters) and it was sheer unadulterated crack. We wrote mythos. We wrote an expanded steampunk Treasure Planet universe full of high tragedy and classic-children’s-lit drama. We wrote poetry. We wrote ambitious crossovers and extraordinarily complex backstories for characters who ended up being Not That Deep. We wrote ridiculous comedy nonsense. We wrote so much fluff. My partner @gretchensinister created an entirely original fantasy alternate world and wrote a high fantasy novel inspired by the characters, which she’s planning to turn into an original series (speaking of, I will always shamelessly plug A Draught Of Light. If you liked A:TLA, you owe it to yourself to read it, and you don’t need to know anything about ROTG to enjoy it. In fact, you might enjoy it more not knowing anything about ROTG, though a few inside jokes might go over your head).
With that said, though, I think I have enjoyed writing for Gravity Falls the most. Partly it’s because of the skills I developed working in the other fandoms, so that now I feel confident enough in my work that I can stop worrying so much about making it good and just have fun with it. Partly it’s because the tone, the mood and the theme, of the series align with my interests and my values so well. It’s the kind of story that I would like to write, it’s the kind of story that I wish I’d written, and I love all of the characters so much but also can relate to so many of them, that getting to expand on it and play in its universe is just a treat and a joy. I may have found my forever fandom.
(The rest of this is going behind a cut for length because it turns out all of my answers are like this.)
3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.
I…don’t get reader inserts. Especially the ones that include the little (y/n). (Partly because it jolts me right out of a story, partly because for the first while after the trend started, I was reading them as ‘yes/no’ and was extremely confused.) I understand that the intent is to create a story where the reader can easily imagine themselves as the protagonist, but…you have to give that protagonist some traits, and have them make choices, and in order to do that you have to give them some sort of a personality, and then 1) not every person who reads it will be able to go ‘oh yeah, that’s me’ and 2) you’ve got an original character anyway!
I saw a post recently where someone had drawn a picture with the caption “this is what (y/n), the reader of my story x, looks like” and listed a set of personality traits/likes and dislikes, like, at that point…just give them a name! They’re an OC!
With that said, though, like self-inserts, reader inserts are fun (for people who like that sort of thing) and harmless, and I really hope nobody’s being a dick about them. Fandom should be fun, and even if I don’t get that thing you’re doing for fun, that doesn’t mean you’re Doing It Wrong.
Also, I fucking love making up OCs, and if allowed, I would do nothing but that all day.
5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?
Oh, this is cruel. I should not have done this.
So, there are a lot of them. Apparently some people don’t spend all their free time coming up with bullshit ideas that spiral wildly out of their control into full, developed narratives that require tens of thousands of words to fully express? I bet those people have cleaner bedrooms than I do. Also probably more money.
Again, I’ve gotten better at this with lots of time and practice, so a lot of my earlier stuff is less well-executed than I’d want it to be. There are still ideas that I like, and stuff I’m proud of finishing, but I wouldn’t say they’re favourites, because the execution is less skillful and less polished than some newer things. With that said, though, I still have a big ol’ soft spot for Northern Lights, which was my indoctrination into the genre of ‘wildly self-indulgent crossovers and rampant canon revisionism’. Same with It Was A Dark And Stormy Night, the first multi-chaptered thing I ever finished. You can see the seeds of some classic Mary tropes in it, including ‘what if we just took all the female characters who were mentioned once and develop them into fully-realised people with important roles in this story’, as well as some tropes that have since fallen by the wayside (I do not do nearly as much with fairy tales as I did when I was a teenager).
Dreamland deserves a shot at the title, as do Reincarnation Blues and Raising Stakes. But purely for scale, ambition, and how closely the execution matches the ideal version that exists only in my head, my absolute favourite multi-chaptered fic has to be Hive. I’ve been trying to write decent horror for eleven long years and Hive makes me feel like I’ve finally nailed it.
7) When is your preferred time to write?
Preferred time to write is from midnight to 2am.
Best time to write is literally any other time than that, probably.
(I’ve read all the science and the thinkpieces. I am aware that the only reason 2am seems like such a good time for creative work is because you’re tired enough that your internal self-regulation is low and your inner critic is silenced, and also because it’s often the only time when we sit down and let ourselves focus on the work with no distractions - because there aren’t any. I’m working on introducing this environment into the rest of my day so that I am not in a permanent state of sleep deprivation. Funnily enough, writing in a dimly-lit room and working on a dimmed computer screen really seems to help.)
11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?
Not that I can remember.
To be fair, I have received very few criticisms after posting that were about writing issues rather than matters of personal taste (and most of those have been along the lines of ‘so uh, I know you knew mentally what was going on in this scene, but the critical piece of information never actually made it to the page’). But…I also…take long enough to work on things and have so many damn things on the go that once something is posted, it’s posted, and I have to make a promise to myself to never touch it again, otherwise I would spend all my time nitpicking and never finish anything. If somebody’s noticed a legitimate issue or possible improvement, it is incredibly likely that I will go ‘oh dang why didn’t I notice that’ and then mentally file it for use in future stuff. I’ve only ever taken one fic down, and most of the edits I do after the fact are for tagging or author’s notes.
I did amend the ending of Any Misery You Choose, but that was less because I got criticism (people were actually incredibly nice about it!) and more because I was extremely dissatisfied with how the original ending turned out, because I hadn’t adhered to the plan I myself had made, because I was rushing to finish the damn thing. (Protip: don’t do that.)
(please, please, please let these actually be the first five prime numbers)

""CAR INSURANCE FOR A 17-YEAR-OLD, 5000 quotes. Genuinely can't find any quotes less than 5000?""
1.3 KA 2002, immobiliser, no tracker fitted yet (intend on). Not bought the car. 17-year-old as the main driver and owner, passed a month ago (roughly). I know it's obvious, but KAs are the easiest cars to buy, the car is valued at 995 (the one in mind). I can literally find 5000 quotes. The car is worth less than one fifth of this. And yes, I know that car insurance will be expensive, but reading over forums etc, some people have managed to get it down to 2000. I've tried Diamond, elephant, comparethemarket, gocompare, literally everywhere. Admiral won't give me a quote and places like Tesco will only quote 18-year-olds. I will literally LOVE anyone who knows of any quotes around 2000-3000. Any less, I believe is impossible. And I realise that insurance companies take the Michael, but please don't state the obvious with a comment like Insurance will be expensive - 5000 is about right , surely it can't be, I've found so many forums of people saying they have quotes from 2000, but not telling me where from. ):""

Could I also please ask for serious answers. I am not not wanting to drive irresponsibly, if that is a worry to some contributors. Thanks.""

When you pay off a credit card is it better to reduce the credit limit or close the account?
I've heard that once you pay off a credit card you shouldn't close the account to keep a good credit score. I've also heard that even though one pays off his credit card reducing the credit limit is also not a good option for keeping a great credit rating. What is the best way to handle this situation if you don't really want the card around to prevent you from running the balance up, but also don't want to hurt your credit rating. Is there any way to find out what exactly affects one's credit score? Defaulting on credit card payments for XXX amount of months subtracts XXX amount of points from your credit rating. Paying off federal student loans adds or subtracts XXXX amount of points from your credit rating. Also is there anywhere that states how long certain things stay on your credit report?""

Want to cancel my whole life insurance?
Back in July 09, I let my stepmother's boyfriend create a life insurance policy for me. He works as an agent for New York Life, and since I know nothing about insurance, I just let him take care of everything. For personal reasons, I want to cancel the insurance. I will get something else, probably term, very soon. I just still know nothing about insurance, so I have a few questions about my policy. I do have whole life insurance, so I should be able to get some money back, right? Currently, I have a $50k plan, and I pay just under $50 a month. I got this policy when I was 18, so the monthly cost seems a little high--especially since I have no dependents or debt. If I die tomorrow, I could still get a really nice funeral (not that I want one) and have it all payed in full from the money I have from my inheritance. Was I ripped off or is this pretty standard? Online, it says my Net Cash Value is $37.97. Is this the money I get back if I cancel? It seems low--it's only about 3.2% of the total amount I've paid. I was expecting some amount closer to 10%. Ideally, I'd like to cancel without talking to my agent. Is there any way I could do it through a general agent or online?""

I'm looking to get a bmw x5 but insurance is 9000k a year like $13000k I heard they do it different so its easier to get bigger cars. In england they don't allow young drivers to get big cars so the insurance is expensive How dos us car insurance work
How much should i pay for old car insurance?
how much the cheapest insurance for old car? i have a used honda.
""Insurance company, can I ? Urgent?""
I had a traffic accident with a bus and I had surgery, my health insurance payed 70% of all treatment fees and I payed 30%. now I have right to a compensation from the bus' insurance company because it was the bus driver mistake. they asked me for all the receipts to calculate the total cost. now I wanna include the amount paid by my health insurance company, do I have the right to do that ? I would like also to know if the 2nd insurance company can contact the hospital in which I had surgery to ask who payed the surgery fee. can they do that with my ID / or would the hospital provide them the information. Thank you so much, I need to now as soon as possible.""
Car insurance question?
Ok, ABOUT how much would 6 months of car insurance be for; 1992 Toyota 4 door. 19 year old driver inexperienced. Car is parked at my own home (yes I'm a homeowner) No one except me will be driving my car. I have no prior accidents or bad driving records. I'm in NC. I don't have a license yet but must get insurance first to get them. I know there is more to it but just an educated guess? Preferably by State Farm. I have no way to call them or get to an office is the only reason I'm on answers. I'm not looking for a real quote, just a simple idea of about how much?""
I got a speeding ticket in Toronto but did not receive demerit points. Will my insurance rates go up? I am 21.?
I got a speeding ticket in Toronto in the jurisdiction of 4863 2 days ago. I did not receive demerit points as I was only 15 km/h above the limit. Will my insurance rates go up if I plead guilty and pay the fine? I am 21 years old and my parents are currently with Wawanesa. I have a G lisence.
How much is my insurance going to go up?
I messed up, and rear ended a car. The cop said that while it was my fault, and I admitted that, it's largely because of the crazy intersection. Anyways, my car doesn't have a scratch but the other car's bumper completely fell off (It was a cheap car, so I'd estimate the damages at about $500 at the MOST. If that effects anything). No one was hurt either. I'm insured by AAA, but I'm a 17 year old so I know it looks bad. I've never gotten in an accident before, and I've been driving for almost two years. How much can I expect it to go up? ANY general idea would be nice. Thanks!""
What type of sports bike should I get for great MPG and low insurance?
My Lexus RX350 is eating up my gas money and I want a motorcycle to have some fun on while saving some gas. I am 5'7 and am a beginner taking a bike safety course that teaches me how to ride safely. I am looking for a bike that gives great MPG and something that will not cost me an arm and an leg for insurance. I'd also want something sporty and great on the HWY. I live in Southern California so there'll be lots of HWY driving and some streets. Thanks
NY DMV - Are you supposed to buy car insurance first or register the car?
The DMV's web site says that I need proof of insurance to register my new (used) car. At the same time Progressive wont sell me insurance because the car does not seem to be owned by me. Any help guys?
Insurance for 1998 Corvette for 18 Year Old Male?
Okay, so this question is one of those, if you have to ask you can't afford it type of questions. Now I have loved Corvette's since I was old enough to identify cars. I have always dreamed of owning on, and the opportunity is upon me. After selling my car, and saved money, and saved funds, I can afford a 1998 Corvette Silver Automatic. Now it's a V8, and is pushing over 300HP easy. Insurance is ridiculously high, even with 2 and a half years of perfectly safe driving. (I hate the stereotype of just because I'm young, I'm an unsafe driver. Alas, all the idiots ruin it for us safe young adults.) Anyway the Vette clears out and is mint shape, no accidents, and is selling for $14,900 with 74K miles, a steal if you ask me. Anyway I have over $16,500 saved up, which leaves me with an issue. I can afford the car no problem, but I just know the insurance will be through the roof. However I was wondering if any of you have any idea on the cost. I have Metropolitan if you were wondering.""
Good insurance companies..I want to switch my car insurance..I need advice?
I have my auto insurance with Allstate and they're just ripping me off. They're always bringing up the prices yearly and I want to know where I can get a better offer. My car is a 2004 Elantra and they want to charge me 1 369 $ from March 4th to January 24th and that's just too much. I know there must be a better insurance company out there. Which ones and can I get a quote online ?
Car insurance question.?
OK, so I got my car insurance renewal to start on 16 May, and it went up from 40 a month to 60, for no gosh darned reason. Grrr. I know that the insurance has gone up a lot, and I think they blame the compensation claims for this, but up a THIRD! Jeeeeeez! Last year, it went up from 35 a month to 50 and I had a whinge down the phone at them, and they reduced it to 40 by changing the recovery a bit (I don't get help now unless I am more than a mile from home; but the chances are I would be when I broke down anyway, and even if I was half a mile away, I could walk back!) so I agreed to change that. So I rang them today and they said they can lower it a fiver because I am a 'loyal' customer, (so down to 55 a month.) Big deal! I am nearly 40, I passed my test 20 years ago, and I have been with them 10 years and NEVER made a claim, and yet they bump my premium by a third! I am like It's a LOT of dosh. Does this seem like a ludicrous leap to you? Has yours gone up a lot too? Does this sound like a high amount to pay? (55 to 60 a month.) Or reasonable for a 38 year old woman? It does include recovery in this quote, and the recovery is about 130. But 2 years ago, I was paying 35, and this year they are asking for 60 a month! I do like this insurance company and have my home insurance and pet insurance with them too, and don't want to leave, but a jump of a third!""

Don’t Blink Chapter 3 (John x Reader)
Tumblr media
Title: Don’t Blink Chapter 3
Summary:  When (Y/n) takes a simple haunting case on her own, she gets in way over her head. Being transported to the past, she falls in love with a young marine with a killer smile. The only problem is she knows his sons and his girlfriend wants to kill her, and probably knows about twenty ways to do so.
Warnings: Language, screwing up canon, etc.
AN:  So I changed a little when John went to Vietnam. Just by a couple years.
1970
Her head was pounding as she started to come to. At first, her body had been heavy and she was sure that she had been kidnapped or worse. But then her limps started to move and she could tell that she wasn’t tied to anything. And was that a bed? She was sure it was a comfortable bed. She opened her eyes to look up at a white ceiling. She groaned some and rubbed at her head.
She set up and looked around. It was a small bedroom. A dresser set on one wall. There were doors to a closet, but not much else. (Y/n) looked to the side of the bed to see a desk and chair. On the desk was a picture of a smiling woman and a young boy. But why the boy looked familiar she couldn’t figure out. She had seen that picture somewhere before. In Dean’s stuff?
The bedroom door opened then and a young man walked in. He was wearing jeans and a flannel shirt. For a second, (Y/n) could’ve sworn it was Dean walking in. She didn’t realize she was staring until the man cleared his throat and set a tray on the desk.
“How’re you feeling?” He asked, sitting in the chair watching (Y/n).
“Uh, my head hurts some.” She said, rubbing the back of her head and neck. He smiled at her and god, did it fit him. “What’s your name?”
“Oh, yeah. You were too out of it to exchange that.” He laughed. “I’m John. John Winchester.” Her eyes widened some. No. John was dead. He had been dead for a few years now. She remembered being there for Sam and Dean when he died… “You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah.” She nodded some. “Just kinda out of it I guess.” John nodded and grabbed a tray with food on it.
“I’ve been there before.” He smiled. “Here, eat up.” She accepted the tray from him. There was toast, some oatmeal, and a glass of orange juice. It wasn’t much, but it was the best meal that (Y/n) had ever seen. Something about the fact that he had gone out of his way to make this for her made her heart flutter.
“Last night, you said no hospital.” John said as he settled back into his chair. “Why’s that?”
“You wouldn’t believe me.” She stated.
“Are you on the run from the law?” John asked. “Am I looking at jail time?”
“No, no.” (Y/n) said. “Let’s just say I’m not from around here. And I don’t want to get caught.”
“Illegal huh?” He asked. “Well, your English is amazing. Where are you from?”
“Uh…England.” (Y/n) said. She wasn’t sure what to tell him. If he believed that she was from another country and not another time, then so be it. She didn’t want to deal with him thinking she was crazy. She saw a calendar on the desk. It was 1970. That meant he still had almost 14 years before he knew about the supernatural. She looked back at John and almost missed him gazing at her.
“Well, I’m glad you’re okay.” John said, running his fingers through his hair. It was a nervous habit that he picked up from his mother. Little did he know his dad used to do it too. “Do you, uh, have any place to stay?” Something about (Y/n) made John want to protect her. There was something in his chest he had never felt with Mary before, he just couldn’t put a finger on it.
 “Uh…” (Y/n) looked around.
“I’m going to take that as a no.” John said. “You had no clothes or money with you. You really didn’t plan out your trip to the good old USA very well, did you?”
“It just sorta happened…” (Y/n) said with a shrug. John smiled softly at her.
“Well, how about you make use of my excellent hot water heater?” He asked. “Get yourself a shower. I have some spare clothes you can wear. My mother might have some things she could let you borrow until we get you on your feet.”
“Thank you John.” (Y/n) said with a smile and a soft blush. This man was nothing like the stories Sam and Dean, or even Bobby, had told her about the hunter. He was so nice to her and caring. And that smile…
“I had something I needed to do this morning, but I can’t remember now.” He said. He shook his head. “I’ll show you where the shower is. You get cleaned up. I’m going to call my mother and let her know we’re coming over. So if she’s not home she knows I’ll be in at least.”
(Y/n) slowly got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom. He laid out a towel and a wash cloth for her to clean up with. He looked at his shower. Manly smelling things. He quickly grabbed a couple bottles from underneath the sink.
“Here. This is more suitable for a woman.” John said, handing her the bottles. He noticed how confused (Y/n) looked. “Uh…Mary left these over here.” He ran his fingers through his hair again. Mary Winchester. Sam and Dean’s mom. The reason John got into hunting in the first place. But John didn’t and couldn’t know that (Y/n) knew that. He wouldn’t even know that.
“Oh, is she your girlfriend?” (Y/n) asked. Was that…disappointment in her voice?
“Honestly, I’m not really sure anymore.” John said with a shrug. He looked over at (Y/n) to gauge her reaction. He wasn’t sure why though. He wasn’t sure of anything he was doing/feeling with this girl. “Well, I’ll let you get to your shower.” He quickly left, leaving (Y/n) in the bathroom by herself.
She sighed and turned on the water, letting it warm up. She opened up the bottles and smelled them while she waited. Mary had good choices in scents. And in men. John was such a sweet guy. It was too bad that Sam and Dean didn’t get to see this side of their dad. Before they lost their mom and he was just John Winchester. Not the Great John Winchester.
She let herself stand under the stream of warm water and wash off the grime from last night. She was just glad that she landed there and not somewhere worse. She couldn’t even figure out how she got to be where she was. What were those things that attacked her? Did Sam, Dean, and Bobby know she was gone? Did they even care? She had been there for them through so much, but she wasn’t sure if they even noticed she was gone. They were wrapped up in their own world.
Stepping out of the shower, she dried her hair and wrapped the towel around her. At some point, John had left clothes right outside the bathroom door for her. A pair of sweatpants and a baggy United States Marine Corps t-shirt. She smiled some. John had been to Vietnam already. She didn’t want to be there for that.
“Ready?” John asked, watching her walk into the kitchen in his clothes. Something about that made his heart flutter.
“Yeah.” She smiled at him. “Let’s go.” John snagged his car keys and walked out with her.
As he closed the door, his phone started to ring.
 ****
 Present
Sam and Dean walked into the house (Y/n) had been hunting in. Their guns drawn, they walked through the house. It was eerily quiet as they made their way upstairs. There was nothing out of the ordinary until they came up the stairs.
“Dean…” Sam said, pointing his gun to where (Y/n)’s laid on the ground by her flashlight.
“Where is she?” Dean asked, picking them up. “She wouldn’t just leave these…”
“What’s that?” Sam asked, pointing his own light over at a statue in the corner. Dean walked closer to it, tilting his head to examine it.
“It looks like an angel.” He said.
“What’s it doing here?” Sam asked. Dean turned away from the statue.
“I dunno man. Let’s just check the grounds.” Sam was about to turn around when he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. Sam turned to see the statue had moved.
 “Dean…” Sam said.
“What the hell is going on here?” Dean asked. Just when Sam was about to speak, hands were placed on their shoulders.
“Don’t blink, don’t breath, don’t say a thing. Just run.” A man with glasses said. Sam and Dean turned to look at him. “These things got your friend and they’re going to get you too. Let’s go!”
