in terms of books on Genesis P-Orridge, you might be interested in Karl Whitney’s ‘Hit Factories: A Journey Through the Industrial Cities of British Pop’ — there is a chapter on Hull that goes into the competing narratives/legacies that play out around the band. The larger book is a bit hit or miss for me bc it can end up going into extended sequences about artists I do not care about (such as Van Morrison) but it also has its charms from time to time

In 2004 an anonymous fan made half hour reels of all the known intros to all known super robot and mecha anime that was known to exist. In 2010 they were copyright struck from YouTube.

All four reels are now back.

Internet Archive and 'The Wayback Machine' are Experiencing an Existential, Legal Threat.

Below is a link to a petition whose goal it is to save one of the most effective tools against digital censorship available to the public.

"At a time when digital information is being deleted, rewritten, and erased, preservation is more important than ever."

Recently, user @we-are-astronomer was able to utilize Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to locate and preserve government articles DELETED from the NASA website by Trump Administration censors. For more information, their post can be found underneath the break.

If resources such as these are destroyed, we risk losing every digital article and file deleted under the Trump Administration's censorship. Without a method for restoring erased information, censorship proceeds unhindered. No body, no crime.

Collective action gets results. Do your part to protect public peace of mind.

Martin would never say this to Jon outright, but he is downright unlikable at times. Flare-ups or not, illness or not, Jon is known to be abrasive and condescending and overall rude. It rubs people the wrong way. They’ll ask Martin what’s wrong with him in a hushed tone when they think Jon isn’t listening. Martin shrugs and drinks whatever cocktail he’s decided upon, and he’ll say that Jon isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

Understandable! Luckily, most email clients allow you to set up rules for incoming mail depending on their sender and contents. For instance (using Gmail), I've made it so that these emails skip the inbox, are marked as read, and moved to a label I call my "Comment Collection".

The result? A complete, organised and fully-searchable repository of any comments you leave from this point onwards! Search by fic name, author, date, that one sentence you vividly remember leaving!

I've set up other rules, too, like starring emails that are replies to my comments - I'm always excited to receive them!

I love this system, and I think it's motivated me to leave more comments. I hope that others find it useful too. Happy commenting!

hope it isn’t weird to barge into yr dms re: the mythology metaphors, but yr post sparked a thought in me! idk too much about Marius’ timeline, but I believe he would have been a contemporary of Ovid (exiled in 8 AD). the pursuit of Daphne, Leda, and Ganymede are all in Ovid’s Metamorphoses — a LOT going on in the poem re: sexual violence’s transformative effects (and this feels possibly significant in the context of vampiric “turning” as a metamorphosis?). the marble statues make me think of Pygmalion & Galatea which is also another passage in Metamorphoses that has weird implications abt consent. i am going to try to flip thru the footnotes of my copy later bc i haven’t refreshed my memory on ovid in a hot minute

not at all, I love talking to people on here - and I never considered that angle but it seems so obvious in hindsight! marius is very much a product of and clings to the prevalent ideas of his time in a way that’s not very subtle at all, transferring his belief systems to various fledgling vampires and using controlled imposition of literacy & culture as a tool of subjugation (which is a pattern of behaviour louis also emulates with claudia in the books), and it reminded me of a specific passage from an article on pederastic relations that I found relevant to the larger conversation:

I haven’t read the metamorphoses yet myself so it’s interesting that you should bring up pygmalion and galatea because they’re mentioned in the vampire armand too (perhaps indicating a conscious intent to reference ovid?), but it wasn’t in a context that made sense to include in the other post. The transformative role that seems to be such a common theme associated with sexual violence is very much in line with what the books do otherwise too, I’d say - they label all human victims ‘brides’ which has certain implications for marital relations as a large for vampires who seem to develop very dysfunctional companionships; louis himself also describes the turning of a human by a vampire as a sexual act, and a mutual and I also recently discussed how claudia’s own turning seemed to draw on a lot of language used to describe assault.

this is also slightly less relevant, but in the continued context of violence imposed through a controlled parcelling out of literacy, I enjoyed drawing comparisons between lolita and the vampire armand, specifically looking into language as a tool of violence even if I don’t necessarily think anne wrote that with conscious intent.
