I had a Walkman WM-20 in the mid 80s did a little 'telescoping' trick like this. When slid in, it was the size of a cassette case. I used a pair of Sennheiser headphones with it — the ones with the little yellow foam pads, those ones. Omgomgomg… it sounded so good. Never in all my days when I was an alive-thingy did I ever dream of such a device for listening to music. I would listen to Iron Maiden and Mozart and Van Halen and AC/DC and Beethoven's Ode to Joy, and Bill Evans and Miles Davis, and Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, and The Divinyls and Angel City, and I think I still had that player when Dwight Yoakum hit. The sounds were so amazing Dwayne Eddy or Dusty Springfield… I remember crying sometimes, it was all so beautiful sounding to me! ;)

I went to Radio Shack to purchase an adapter to go from the 1/4 inch plug to the size input of the WM-20… there was a super really cute boy working there. Omgomgomg!! So super really fun to look at and talk to yo!!! Yeeeeee!!!!

Just finished: The Amendments, Niamh Mulvey. I was sent an advance review copy by picador. It took me a while to warm up to this one, but in the end I really enjoyed the way Mulvey delivers complex difficult emotions using straightforward language, not wallowing in grief but also not flinching away from some of the hardest conversations around birth, death and religion. And I do have a soft spot for Irish writers, and multi-generational stories
