#arc: post enies lobby

There is this one thing that confuses me:

Back in post ennies lobby when Garp first mentioned Dragon, he was stated to be the most wanted man alive. So I assummed they meant he had the top bounty.

But in Wano, Roger and Whitebeard's bounties were revealed and it was stated that "No one ever surpassed these men" and I also assumed it meant bounty numbers, but I guess it isn't.

So what did they mean by "surpassing"? Was there a specific word used that indicates wantedness, or maybe they meant something else?

you didn't specify which chapter/panel exactly in post-enies lobby you're talking about here, but i'm assuming it's this panel:

dragon here is referred to as the world's 'worst'/'most evil' criminal (世界最悪の犯罪/sekai saiaku no hanzai). so that doesn't necessarily imply anything about his bounty; rather, i would assume that he's called that because he leads the only major organization that targets the government directly.

gotta love that the anime added some frames when the strawhats were escaping from the marines at the end of enies lobby, and very injured luffy still wanting to help and fight

and they just use him to repel the incoming attack, same as in the manga asdksffd

i finished enies lobby arc!!

nico robin has become a favorite character of mine because of this arc! her backstory was so heartbreaking but so well written. i’m so happy she found a place to call home with friends who love her!!!!

the fights were amazing!! luffy using second & third gear was so cool! i loved seeing zoro using new techniques while fighting, he’s just very fun to watch to me! sanji’s fire leg was amazing also!! nami’s lightning technique was also really fun to watch!

seeing them say goodbye to merry made me so sad but i’m so happy they have a new ship along with a new member!! the crew are back together sailing the ocean and i’m excited to see what’s next!

Zoro and Growth

Recently, I’ve been thinking about a certain green-haired swordsman and trying to understand things from his perspective. One issue I’ve noticed is how he often falls victim to misconceptions. Being one of the most popular characters in the fandom means there’s a prevalent but narrow view of him that isn’t always favorable. This is true for all One Piece characters, but Zoro’s loyalty and steadfastness are particularly emphasized by fans, sometimes to the detriment of recognizing his growth.

People often say that if Zoro had been present during the Whole Cake Island arc, he wouldn’t have tolerated any of what happened, especially Sanji’s actions. They claim he would’ve acted as he did in Water 7, not letting Sanji return without a proper apology. However, I don’t think that’s accurate.

Before the time skip, the crew didn’t fully understand each other, and they all had room to grow stronger. Even Luffy wasn’t fully up to par. During this time, Zoro was subconsciously doubting the process, and the crew was often taking on more than they could handle. Now, post-time skip, Zoro understands the Straw Hats’ dynamics better. He trusts that Luffy is strong enough to lead and handle situations, even in his unique “un-Captain”-like manner.

I believe that if Zoro had been there during Whole Cake Island, he would have trusted Luffy’s decision to get Sanji back because Sanji is their nakama and none of them are perfect. Zoro’s growth is evident in his trust in Luffy and his understanding of his crewmates. He likely wouldn’t have been as harsh with Usopp’s return either, recognizing Usopp’s way of handling things and knowing an apology would come eventually.

The Straw Hats are built on friendship, and post-time skip, Zoro supports this more than ever. He works in the best interest of the entire crew, not just Luffy’s. Misconceptions about Zoro stem from how the fandom often portrays him, missing the nuances of his character growth. So, yes, post-time skip Zoro is a version I prefer because he clearly prioritizes the well-being of the whole crew.
