Celegorm and dragon!Aredhel be upon ye.
how many dragon aus is it now? Like 5? god too many. Anyway in this au i was thinking that if anyone would be the dragon it would be Celegorm, because I like him feral. But then I realized, not only do I love dragon!Aredhel but if I keep Celegorm an elf then I'll just make him as feral as a dragon anyway. An absolute win all around.
Anyway, enjoy these two mighty hunters!

au ideas? 👀
AU ideas! (Also thanks to the anon who asked)
Oh Eru this got long.
One of my first goals when I got into silm fic was a series of works depicting different ways in which canon events could have happened, ranging from different variations of canon compliance to off-the-wall AUs. And of course I decided two of the most controversial parts of canon would be the best places to start: Aredhel and Eöl, and Elwing's leap. I doubt I'll get to these fics any time soon, but I've got some ideas for the variations sketched out:
Ways in which a body strikes the ocean at terminal velocity
Elwing sends Elrond and Elros to hide, and runs the other way to pull the Feanoreans away. Cornered at the cliff, yells at them, jumps.
As before, but Elrond and Elros are captured and dragged before her.
She hands it over, and it burns. The holder walks off the cliff himself (and the other brother follows?)
She throws it away, and either gets stabbed and tossed off the cliff for that, or a brother walks off in despair.
Eärendil is also there. His cousins have made him a kinslayer. He's not happy about that.
Elurín and Eluréd are the leaders of Sirion instead. They leap together. Ulmo can only save one.
Ambarussa are the surviving Fëanorians instead of Maedhros and Maglor.
Ways in which the White Lady of the Noldor was lost in the darkness of Nan Elmoth
Generally canon compliant but give Aredhel a bit more agency (she was content at first, and Eöl's assholery doesn't become as much of an issue until after Maeglin is born, at which point she's unwilling to leave him behind if she flees).
As above, except Eöl has a crisis of conscious and admits his enchantment and manipulation while Aredhel is pregnant. She ditches him for Himlad.
Going off the NoME version where Eöl is an Amanyar Noldor and part of Fëanor's host, and he and Aredhel were followers of Melkor. In which Aredhel takes part in the kinslaying but Eöl doesn't, but Eöl somehow is on the boats when Fëanor and co. slip away. He's not happy about that, fucks off from Mithrim ASAP, and wanders into Nan Elmoth to chill out. Aradhel incidentally walks in 300 years later and shit's awkward.
Galadriel wanders into Nan Elmoth instead. Dunno exactly how this one goes but there's probably explosions involved and at least one of them dead (likely Eöl) within a year.
Nan Elmoth is hungry, and Eöl is trapped there as much as Aredhel is.
Other ideas:
Unwritten AKA "Dior DGAF"
In which Dior noclips out of the Halls of Mandos immediately upon arrival and goes right back into his body. He picks up his sons and walks out of the narrative layer.
The Dusk, the Dawn, the Earth/Dear Shadow Alive and Well/And I am Left
AKA the Beren/Lúthien/Thuringwethil OT3 series. In which Thuringwethil, irrevocably altered by Lúthien taking her bat-fell and partially re-singing her, knocks on their door demanding Lúthien undo whatever change made her start feeling things like "guilt" and "love". Lúthien, horrified by what she did (effectively partially rewriting her personality) agrees to help make a new fell. Beren's along for the ride.
For the fur, she joins Camlost on the hunt. Under his quiet direction she crafts traps for rabbits, whispering her thanks to Yavanna’s bounty as her teeth pierce their necks. She stalks foxes until she is near enough to dive upon them with her claws, Nessa’s most ancient name on her lips for sure steps and bursting speed. She fashions a bow from a young yew sapling, crafts arrows from reeds fletched with Tinúviel’s gifted feathers, strings it with her own hair, and praises Aulë’s ingenuity in searching chirps as the replies guide her aim to a grazing deer. And finally, she calls Tulkas to witness as she hefts Camlost’s spear towards the growls of a desperate wandering wolf bereft of its master. As each prize is skinned, she asks Oromë if she has taken too much from the wild, and trusts in the silence of his answer. The rabbits she consumes entire. The foxes she drains, and leaves the remains for the vultures. The deer she carries back for Tinúviel to prepare venison and jerky. The wolf they burn.
Also featuring the inherent trauma of watching your spouses die and giving your son the cursed jewelry you can tell will one day destroy him.
Children of Dior roleswap
In which Elurín and Eluréd escape with the Silmaril, and Elwing is captured (and not thrown into the woods for whatever reason) and raised by the Fëanorians and not told the details of the Kinslaying. She's thoroughly unhappy when she finds out.
She wants to scream until the entire hill crumbles into dust and ghosts. Murderers, murderers! Maedhros with his dead eyes and nightmares only she can sing away, Maglor and his endless laments for his own failures, Amrod with his maddened silence and vivisecting gaze, Amras desperate for salvation and haunted by guilt—not haunted enough! How long did they mean to continue the lie? Now she knows why Maedhros refuses to train her beyond basic self-defense. Why Maglor only teaches her Songs of healing and succor. Why Amras never brings her more than a mile from the citadel to practice woodcraft. Why Amrod gives her nothing at all. She is a hostage without need for chains and locks, with no way to survive the wilds and roaming orcs should she run. If she looks east and a little south, can she pretend she sees the shoreline kingdom where her brothers reign? She doesn’t even know their names.
Yet another Gil-Galad origin theory
In which Gil-Galad gets adopted by no fewer than three Finweans and yet is blood related to none of them.
Still-untitled "Fëanor takes the Helcaraxë" AU
Second problem: how exactly is he going to get his people to Endórë? Tol Eressëa is anchored, and regardless Ulmo would not move it again for them. The Noldor have little skill in boatcraft, and even if they did, the sheer number required would take decades to build. But there are already fine ships in Aman, are there not? Well maybe he should've thought of that two hundred leagues ago.
Túrin and Nienor live
Unfortunately they're still cursed.

I also made my guardian into my og Tav, Aradhel, just because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to her just yet.

I think part of the reason why everyone kind of skips Curufin in this friendship is because he, unlike Celegorm and for the long time Aradhel, is already married and has a child. I think fandom just sees Celegorm and Aredhel as two singles, likely to abandon everyone for months and just live in a forest hunting, while Curufin does not really fit this scenario. (Some people see romantic potential between Celegorm and Aredhel because they are single and friends and apparently that’s enough)
People see Curufin as Feanor's favorite and forget that he actually might have any hobbies other than working with his father and son 24/7. I think a lot of people consider being a smith and liking to spend time around nature to be contradictory things, even though we know that’s not true about Feanor (similar example: Maeglin being headcanoned as absolutely hating to spend doing anything that did not involve digging in the ground)
So in my opinion it all comes down to Curufin having much more backstory in Aman, while almost all that we know about the other two is "they like hunting", and so their personalities get developed in fandom around that. Curufin has others he (presumably) was close with, while Aredhel and Celegorm are only given this one close relationship, so much more attention gets focused on it
It's interesting to me how Celegorm is almost universally posited by fandom (or at least extremely broadly) to be Aredhel's best friend, while her friendship with Curufin--mentioned in precisely the same sentence in the book--is almost entirely overlooked. Someone do a psyche analysis of this.

On the Fëanorian accent
There is a great deal of fandom content on the subject of people like Elrond being said to have a “Fëanorian accent” which is based solely on use of the Thúlè. This is a bit ridiculous, as that is the deliberate pronunciation of a single letter, and therefore hardly an accent.
However, I do think that the Fëanorians probably did have their own accent, one that had nothing to do with the Thúlè and everything to do with the fact that they spent thousands of years exploring Valinor with only each other for company, and hundreds more years in Beleriand more or less shunned from other elven peoples. That’s literally how accents form, people.
the list of people who spoke with a Fëanorian accent is as follows:
• Fëanor
• his sons
• (nerdanel?)
• celebrimbor
• the people who followed Fëanor the closest in the flight of the Noldor
• the people of Himring
• Elrond and Elros
• Aradhel. It was a quirk that her many fans easily accepted while in Valinor; in Vinyamar and Gondolin, people diplomatically pretended not to notice
• because of that, Maeglin had a Fëanorian accent when speaking Quenya when he first arrived at Gondolin, but he quickly picked up on how it made people uncomfortable and learned to speak in a Gondolinian accent so as not to associate himself with their bad memories.
• Fingon is an interesting case. He speaks with the most classically mainstream Noldorin accent imaginable. It’s more perfect and precise than even that of Finwë or Fingolfin. His accent is the one actors study when they want to play a Noldo; you know the type. But when he spends too much time around Maedhros, their accents sort of meld into a weird mainstream/Fëanorian hybrid. No one else experience this. Whenever they returned home after time spent together, there’s a lot of drama, especially in the Fëanorian household. Fëanor freaks out every. Single. Time. “WHY DOST THOU SPEAK IN THE SUBPAR MANNER OF HE WHO IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT MY BROTHER?! HAVE I RAISED YOU TO SULLY THYSELF IN SPEECH?! WHY DOTH MY FIRSTBORN REJECT HIS FAMILY SO?!” And then poor Maedhros is like, “Sheesh, Atya, I just spent some time with my dear friend and cousin. I’m not abandoning our family!” The accent wears off a few weeks later anyway. Every time. When the Ambarussa were innocent little elf-lings, they used to tease Maedhros about it, mocking him in an awfully exaggerated Nolofinwëan accent. He would generally slap them upside the head for it, but he took it in good fun. But after a while Fëanor got more obsessive and the twins got older and wiser, and they stopped. Soon after it became a moot point anyway, as the lies of Melkor had started sowing discord and Maedhros stopped spending time with Fingon. Later, in Beleriand, they never resumed teasing him even after Fëanor died and Maedhros and Fingon reconnected, because after Maedhros’s time in Thangoridrim, no one, not even his brothers, dared tease him about anything to his face, partly out of pity and partly because he was now terrifying. But he and Fingon still had that weird hybrid accent every time they spent time together, which is why Thorondor’s first exposure to Quenya was with an accent that only two people in the world had only some of the time. Much like with Aradhel, the people of Gondolin diplomatically overlook the faint Fëanorian accent the King of Eagles occasionally speaks with.
whoever wants to add, feel free!

gryffindor: bonfires, dancing alone in your room at midnight, coffee stains, steaming showers, can be a bit socially awkward, licorice, jean jackets, photograph sessions with friends, road trips, sunrises, animal lovers
hufflepuff: determined, leather jackets, earphones, works hard and smart, sarcastic smirks, treats people with kindness, blasting music, respects rules, constantly sends memes to their friends, not afraid to stand up for what’s right
ravenclaw: inspired by nature, scrunchies, bullshits an entire essay and still gets a high grade, really messy, oversized hoodies, artistic, goes to coffee shops for the aesthetics, loves reading fantasy books, street smart, random facts
slytherin: very emotional but doesn’t show it, houseplants, old cottages in the woods, probably an artist, cries during sad movie scenes but won’t admit it, loves hiking in the forests, greek mythology, easily embarrassed, sharp mind

ink, novella and characterization :)
What do I do to set the mood when writing? Light a scented candle, get a cup of tea or coffee and put on some instrumental music.
Do I prefer short stories, one shots or entire novels? It depends on the story. I like all three, but tend to write more one shots than anything else, but I do enjoy getting into a long story as well, if the plot feels right and it flows well.
Favourite character I’ve written: I’m assuming this means OCs, as obviously, as a fanfic writer, the characters I use from canon aren’t mine. I tend to write a lot of reader insert fics, but they wind up taking on a life of their own and becoming partially formed as an OC. I suppose I put too much into them which steers away from being reader inserts. But out of those, I probably enjoyed the reader from A Rose at Twilight and Wrong Place Wrong Time the most. The readers in AROAT has a very abusive background and her story is getting her through that so she realises her true strength, and Thorin brings that out in her. The reader in WPWT was more feisty, a woman from our time trapped in 1209AD where misogyny was rampant, but that didn’t stop her speaking her mind. She later recoils into herself after enduring a lot of pain which leads to bad scarring, and Raymond de Merville shows her that he adores her and her scars do not change his love…you’ll have to read the fic to find out the details.
