For my birthday (next Thursday) @ambiguouspieces gave me this Pair Of Adorably Passive-Aggressive Unicorn Squishies, who are judging every play fail I make in the way only plump kawaii unicorns can. I dare say their being trapped in shrink wrap doesn’t help matters, but they really do look judgy!

I will say that Dungeon of Magic in the Melbourne CBD is the kind of LGS where a not-cis-male person like me can take photos of unicorn squishies while playing casual Magic and Love Letter (while cheerfully discussing our refusal to bother with a proper declare blockers step before tallying damage because who’s got time for that). I’ve been in a few places where very casual Magic plus unicorn squishies just wouldn’t be a thing without That Gamer Dude Looking At You In Pained Scorn, and I really do appreciate those more welcoming spaces.

This post is going to be very specific for folks based in Melbourne, Australia--particularly folks based in the CBD or the Western Suburbs.

There’s a little independent dollar shop in the Footscray CBD that’s closing down, and they have everything on half-price sale. Everything. Stimmy items include the above bracelets, slimes, balloon stress balls, spinners, squishies and moon sand (knock-off kinetic sand). It’s a small store in the main arcade off Barkly Street, and it’s well-worth checking out.

I got the moon sand and the aforementioned telephone cord bracelets, plus some fake flowers and some hat elastic for making bead fidgets.

These look like the ones you can buy from Stimtastic, and after dollar conversion they cost me about the same, but the lack of additional shipping costs is where these ones win out. These ones are slightly tight out of the package, in the sense that they press a little too close to my wrist for me, but once I’ve stretched them a few times, they’re comfortable. They’d be ideal as is for folks who like pressure stimming.

I don’t like them quite as much as I do the K-Mart ones, but these have more colour and print options, and the clear coating is super smooth--great for twisting and stroking. These do not tangle easily, which is great if you’re like me and tend to get the loops tangled up while twisting the bracelet.

I have no idea how long the sale will last, but I left quite a few packets of the bracelets behind me in the hair care section.

(By the way, if you do go: around the corner from the LeDo Gift Shop on Paisley Street is another dollar shop, the Yen Huot Gift Shop. They have more buckets of slime in, in many different colours and some with glitter, still for $2.50 AUD! I’ve seen these buckets in other dollar stores now, usually somewhere between $5-8 AUD, so this is an absolute bargain if you’re wanting to get your hands into a bucket of slime--an experience I absolutely recommend. The shop is hell to navigate because it’s cluttered, but the slime is so cheap. Given that there’s also a K-Mart close by, Footscray is a really good cheap stimmy shopping destination right now.)
