Love Live Unit Koushien Day 1

I debated whether I wanted to bother posting about this because it's not like the old days when these events weren't accessible to foreigners. Even for those who cannot make it to Japan, anyone can just buy and watch the archive right now!

But, I still feel it's worth talking about my experience attending via the foreigner plan, for anyone actually interested in going for it someday.

My experience on the foreigner plan actually wasn't as great as it was the first time.

For Aqours 5th Live, I got a hotel with an amazing location in Tokyo (Ikebukuro!) and an arena seat for the concert (on the floor!!). I didn't end up taking it (and wished I had), but there was also even an option to pay for a shuttle bus to and from the concert as well.

This time I did not get arena. My seat was on the 2nd level, but center. So not as good, but not bad either. (My friend who was on a different plan did get arena though. I do feel like the foreigner plan generally gets fairly good seats as they know you're coming a long way for this.) The hotel though, UGH, they stuck us in Kawasaki. I mean the hotel itself was nice, but we had to take a shuttle to/from Kawasaki Station or walk 15 minutes to the nearest station, and there was no option to take a shuttle directly to the concert. They just plopped us in the middle of nowhere and said good luck weebs! If it had been my first time in Japan, I would have been super lost/stressed I think.

But we did get this:

We were also given the option to skip the lines and buy merch in advance.

BUT.

You could only buy it in sets. The sets had some stuff I wanted, and some I didn't. So, I sought to buy a set to sell off the things I didn't want to friends back home and line up for merch regardless to get the other things I did want...

....b...ig... mis...taaake.....

While trying to get down early for merch I had a couple mishaps along the way. The hotel shuttle wasn't running so I had to walk to the nearest train station, which was a little difficult to find. And when I did, I didn't get off when I was supposed to and ended up going in the opposite direction for a little bit AHHHHHHH

When I finally got to the arena it was 7:30am and the line was already MASSIVE. It didn't look so bad when I took the picture above, until I realized it went basically all around the arena and growing as they condensed us as much as possible. I was so mad at myself for getting there so late. It's not my first rodeo and I should know better!!

Sales actually began at 10am, but I didn't get out until 1pm. Around that time, there was an announcement on Twitter that basically advised people not to get in line if they had tickets for Day 1 and wanted to be able to see the show. Leaving the arena after the show, there were STILL tons of people in line even though it was about to close.

While I was in that line I kept thinking... All these people, all this money, and nobody spent any on SIF2!? We really couldn't save it!? Come on...

Anyway. The next day I wasn't there, but I heard they opened merch at 9am instead of 10 to try and help but I don't know if that would do much. Because wow, it was bad. According to the announcers at the show, people were even lined up the night before.

Anyway, at least nothing sold out. I got everything I wanted plus the stuff other people wanted plus I took a chance at the gatcha.

I usually try and avoid blind stuff nowadays, and if it was actually by group I probably would have avoided this altogether too. But instead, they actually put all the groups together meaning you would have a 1 in 43 chance of getting your best girl! LOL!

So I decided to do it just because, out of 43 possibilities, I couldn't help be curious who I would get...

I got Hanamaru, Shioriko, and Kinako! All characters I feel pretty similar about: Not my fav in the group, but I still like them a lot. Like, top 5! A little higher for Kinako! So, not bad.

So yeah anyway, the live was great although my feet were very sore from the merch line. It was super fun cheering on each school as they went up to bat (this was a baseball themed concert) and when it was nearing the end everyone cheered "OVERTIME!" (or rather "Extra Innings" or whatever they say in English for baseball, this was in Japanese so IDK) instead of encore haha!

At one point I cheered so hard the batteries fell out of one of my penlights, so I only had one for the last quarter. I looked all over for the backing but only found it at the end when they turned on the lights. It was in the cupholder in front of me the whole time.

I found it funny how most of the units go hard, but some of them go SO MUCH HARDER! Specifically, Saint Snow and Guilty Kiss... like DAAAAAAMN. I wasn't even on the floor and I could still feel the fire that shot up with Guilty Kiss performed. Also CYaRon, IMHO! Haha! Even though they are cutesy, the "We are CYaRon!" "I LOVE CYARON!!!" cheer during Day Day Day was deafening. Oh and also, CatChu!? They were the only other group to get fire other than Guilty Kiss. I'm embarrassed to admit that when the Liella units were initially announced, I had been mistakenly thinking the Kaleidoscore was the BiBi/Guilty Kiss type... but no, it's actually CatChu!?! HAH!

Also the encore was amazing, especially the last shuffle group. I must have damn near deafened the person next to me when they announced it. And then the big finale, seeing Aiai, aka Ruby, as center of the whole stage.... wow. WOW!

Anyway. If you want to visit Japan. If you want to see a Love Live show. You can do it. YOU CAN! It might be a little expensive to get there, and you may stumble a bit at first, but the foreigner plan is a good deal and food/other lodgings in Japan are actually really cheap. Summary: A little glimpse into a fairly normal Riko, Chika and You composition, lyric writing and costume design combined session

“<SUPER AWESOME TRIP>?” Riko read the stylized title in English at the top of the lyrics sheet.

“Yeah, isn’t it awesome?” Chika asked excitedly.

Riko scanned the scrawled scribblings that could be construed as a rough draft of the lyrics for a new Aqours song. She had worked with Chika long enough that she was getting pretty good at determining the direction the other girl wanted to go with a particular song, even if a few things were initially illegible.

“I like where this is going.” Riko admitted. “But I’m afraid the title really isn’t working for me.”

“Hrm…” Chika thought for a moment. “Alright, how about Super Amazing Travel…”

“That’s already a song that AZALEA wrote.” You interrupted, looking from her own papers where she was designing outfits for the group.

Chika blinked. “AZALEA has a song with Super in the title?”

“No, Amazing Travel DNA, remember?”

“Oh, right.” Chika giggled before sticking out her tongue. “Maybe Super Wonderful Journey?”

“Can we just drop the Super please?” Riko asked.

“So just Wonderful Journey?”

“Sounds a little too much like SKY JOURNEY.” You dismissed.

“No, it would Wonderful, not SKY.”

Riko shook her head, unconvinced.

“Wonderful Adventure?”

“Guilty Kiss just sang Phantom Rocket Adventure.” Riko pointed out.

“Wonderous Wanderings?” You offered.

Riko laughed lightly. But while she enjoyed the alliteration, it still didn’t quite fit. Something still felt… off. She reread the lyrics.

“The theme feels more like preparing for a journey rather than the journey itself.” Riko expressed her realization aloud. “So maybe something like Lovely Leaving?”

“Excellent Escape?” Chika suggested.

“Remarkable Retreat.” Riko countered.

“Fantastic Flight.” You said.

“Oh, I like the fantastic…” Riko thought about other words for depart… wait, that was it. “Fantastic Departure?” Even though it didn’t fit with the alliteration they had just been using.

“I love it!” Chika proclaimed, taking the lyrics sheet back from Riko.

“That works.” You nodded in agreement.

“Thanks, Riko-chan!” Chika said with a smile.

A moment later, the old title had been scribbled out and the new one written under it. And the girls continued their lyrics, composition, and costume design session.

Author's Note Continued: I was trying to come up with another idea for an entry for this prompt and couldn't get Fantastic Departure out of my mind. This may have something to do with the song name being used in another IFH event that I enjoyed. And while the prompt was Journey, one has to Depart to go on one. Then my mind started running through its thesaurus and this chapter was written over a lunch break at work.

It makes me so happy to see the smiles and comments from everyone who supports us. Hanamaru: I don't think I could've imagined this many people would be supporting us back when I first became a school idol, zura. Kanan: I wonder if that means we've grown as school idols then ♪ Ruby: That'd make me really happy! I'll do my Rubesty to show everyone who comes today how much we've grown! Chika: Alright~! I'm getting sentimental over Sachi graduating and I haven't even read the story all that much... If they're actually going to do the thing and have the 2nd years graduate next year it's going to hurt so fcking bad...

but honestly i don't know what they're going to do. i can't see them graduating half of the cast next year but the entire setup of hasu - especially with how the lives and streams work - is heading towards the dead line of next year's graduation. are they aqours-ing it and ending the story while keeping the group going? are the (current) second years just going to hang around after graduating? are they going to change the sub-units with new members? honestly it's just about as scary to see what they're going to do as it is exciting...

crazy to think there are still people out there calling hasu a lazy cash grab when liella's sub-units are right there, wasting a spot on their first singles for a what a wonderful dream re-release when 2 out of 3 units already have no clear identity as is, the new miracra single alone has more variety than all three of their singles combined while still being clearly recognizeable as miracra, this literally shouldn't be possible and yet here we are

Ok so after the Aqours shuffle solo polls I’ve been thinking,,which ones should I do next?? Bc doing Muse and Aqours’ shuffle solo polls makes me want to do more Love Live polls (not just solo shuffle obviously) and I have a lot of ideas now,,so uhhh bonus polls / LL polls part 3.5 time

this episode is cat squad-gumi (suzumoto, rikyako, yabuchan, kocchan)

kocchan liked how it started back up again after "ending" and said that she personally found the timing really difficult which the others agreed with. rikyako asked suzumoto how the original members figure out the timing and she said "intuition"

they didnt do rehearsals for the song together so yabuchan thought her panting at the end was something they all did and so afterwards the liella members were like "oh? it was just yabu?"

the original group use hand mics and do one handed gestures so it was the first time suzumoto saw people use with both hands (as they have headset mics). yabuchan says hand mics seem hard while suzumoto says the same for two handed gestures lol

yabuchan says she used a hand mic for the first time as catchu, and it was like she kept forgetting to put it up to her mouth. suzumoto says she's been doing radio calisthenics in the mornings recently and has gotten into the habit of holding her hand to her mouth as if she had a hand mic

kocchan says even when she does two handed gestures its only her left hand (mic hand) that gets cramped (???)

after rewatching cat squad they talk about how fun the rising platform was. yabuchan says it was her first time on one, which surprises the others

they move on to talking about alternate. ijigen was the first time liella performed at tokyo dome, and yabuchan was really nervous that it wouldn't be just the eleven of them on that big stage, but the three of them. they all told each other to do their best and to not get overwhelmed by the huge venue. rikyako compliments catchu on their passionate performance

after watching the clip they talk about the cool red lighting and how catchu feels theyve filled up the stage

tragic drops next! rikyako says lots of people must have fallen in love with hasu-chan after ijigen and kocchan says she's really grateful and she saw from a live they had recently (hasu 2nd) how many more people have come

kocchan says performing tragic drops on the centre stage as just the two of them felt like they were going to be swallowed up but she did her best to perform without being nervous. rikyako says she thinks dollche's songs are all really cool

after the clip they compliment the emotional dialogue and rikyako says its one of her favourite hasu-chan songs

suzumoto says she really fell in love with nonfiction hero show and has been listening a lot to mirakura park-san since. kocchan says nonfiction hero show has a really strange tune but after listening to it a lot it you really get familiar to it. its a really cool song

suzumoto says its a really fast song, like every note has words packed into it and kocchan says she always sees kanchan practising it before a performance so she doesn't bite her tongue. kocchan personally can't do it even when she challenges herself. its amazing how all of mirapa's songs are so fast

yabuchan says she loved aqours-san doing sayonara andromeda. rikyako says she wondered if it was okay that they could sing one of the most loved imas songs, and one she likes herself

kocchan kind of shyly brings up tulip www [trying not to sound like too much of an otaku] which they all loudly go AHH!!!! at

(rikyako points out she and kocchan did the same collabs on both days)

kocchan says she's always loved deremas (cinderella girls) and tulip is her favourite song. she loves ichinose shiki and her solo version of it, and when she received notice she'd be singing it, she cried from happiness

kocchan praises aida-san because of her cuteness and beauty and her expressions when she saw the archive for herself. rikyako says its a really good song and she performed it as it were her own (even though its not)

rikyako has a lot of songs she liked, like alive factor, but also the three who sang aqours' my mai tonight, mentioning uisama specifically (she called her that on her own lol). kocchan tells her uisama was so happy about it, and rikyako says she knows she's a dia-san oshi. she really likes how she sang it in that old fashioned way

suzumoto says maruoka wakana also sang my mai tonight with uisama, and she voices morino rinze, a member of the original cat squad group, who is a traditional girl who wears kimono. traditional japanese songs are rare, so she was really excited for her that she could show off rinze's best qualities

rikyako praises the third my mai tonight performer, koichi-san, on her really cool voice

they talk about how big tokyo dome is, and how long it takes to get between places backstage

rikyako talks about performing cat squad at rehearsals by herself in front of the rest of aqours. staff gave her cat ears to wear for it and aqours all burst out laughing www

yabuchan says she was probably the first one to start rehearsing? so maybe they hadnt decided they would be wearing cat ears at that point, so she didn't wear them at all. and eventually someone told her aida-san was wearing them which surprised her

suzumoto explains how in the original outfits they don't wear cat ears either, they have little helmets with cat ears instead, so this was her first time in the fluffy cat ears

suzumoto said the original members joined in on cat squad backstage

kocchan says when they were rehearsing in the big venue she saw liella telling yabushima-san she was cute and she gave them a cold reception www she didn't look like a tsundere she looked like a cat. yabuchan says she doesnt do many cute songs as mei so it was probably refreshing and fun for the other members

kocchan's backstage anecdote is that before they went up on the platform they neko punch fistbumped!

they say although they didnt do rehearsals together, a strange kind of teamwork was formed born from having to wear cat ears lol

yabuchan's anecdote is about how in alternate catchu all jump at the same time onto their knees so they tend to have a bruise on the same spot on their knee lmao

suzumoto says while they were reading out the various announcements kocchan's stomach rumbled lol

they all say they didnt expect to be able to talk again so they were really glad for this radio

ijigen radio (calling the imas seiyuu by family name since i dont know nicknames)

inoue says kan-san was amazing in how she always practised her choreography right up until she had to go on. kankan gets flustered and says inoue and shuka are amazing as well and they made her feel really comfortable. shuka says theyre both cute

inoue, shuka, and kankan were the first collab unit singing let's sail away on day 1, and theyre really grateful they got to be the top batters

after watching a clip of their performance kankan tells them how the other hasunosora members kept making fun of her for blocking her face with her hand mic when looking through the telescope she had made with her hands lmao (also brought up on mirapa radio). inoue tells her the actual move was making a telescope with one hand (with the mic in the other)

shuka says when aqours were given the choreography for dreamy color it was a kind of dance they hadnt really done before, so they thought it was nice to have grown a little. kankan and inoue gush over how beautiful they were performing it

they talked about the cute lotus image of the eien no euphoria choreo and since kankan and inoue collabed on both it and let's sail away shuka complains its unfair and she wants to do the lotus moves too lol (kankan: i wanted you to join too 🥺)

shuka's top song that left an impression on her was doing aozora jumping heart with everyone to open day 1

kankan was really moved by the other members working together with the senpai during the collab songs. also! one of her friends from university was in sukumyu (minamino hana) and theyve always wanted to perform on the same stage together someday, so she was really happy for it to happen at ijigen. she watched the sukumyu songs while backstage and liked that they started off the second half

inoue liked going on the carts! shuka is jealous aqours didnt get a go on those special big carts

inoue says akarin teased her during a rehearsal of ijigen big bang one time when she happened to be next to her and she got obsessed and every rehearsal after tried to find her to keep going. shuka tries to tsukkomi this but says this is something only kitou-chan can do. kankan's like "this bond of theirs is nice" and shuka's like "idk about a Bond" and then inoue's like "our bond has deepened because of the teasing." shuka then recommends this method to get close to people since it was april

the next behind the scenes anecdote is titled "she barged into aqours' dressing room!?" and shuka's like "this one could only be mine guys" when the others try and make it a mystery

shuka says kurosawa tomoyo came to hang out in aqours' dressing room, since even though she voices an imas girl, she also voices you's cousin tsuki! which made shuka feel weird since it was like looking at two different people. she talks about how they hung out and took videos together and kankan adds she saw them and that they have the same vibes. inoue says they do have the same kind of fun approachable aura

kankan's anecdote was how she was able to take lots of photos with her senpai, but the most memorable was the one with cyaron. she really wanted to take a photo with them but she was scared to ask since theyre her senpai. she was just outside the dressing room when she saw them and she must have been staring because furirin-paisen asked what was up and that's when she was able to speak to them and finally ask for a photo, and thats how she was able to have the confidence to talk to other senpai too. she says aqours are really good at closing the distance and shes really grateful they all posted the photos with her on twitter

shuka says there was pressure not to mess up the songs from the other work, and they were worried how the fans would feel, but theyre really glad P and love live fans accepted them. but even then behind the scenes was a pain w but everyone had fun! thats how she'd sum it up. it was fun!
