Y'all the amount of posts from "liberal" men on Reddit crying about how women are being too mean to men after the election is making me want to commit a war crime.
"Men are being radicalized by online misandry" I know man vs. bear tweets hurt your feelings but you will never be at risk of bleeding out from a miscarriage because doctors were too afraid of anti-abortion laws to save your life. You are not the victims here.
#I agree that Democrats need to appeal to men who feel disenfranchised#but that's by adopting pro-worker and pro-working/middle class policies#the pain men feel is due to the fact that we live in a dystopian late-stage capitalist hellhole#they're drawn to right wing movements because it tells them their pain is caused by minorities#scapegoating a minority group for social ills caused by capitalism is LITERALLY textbook fascism#I lost my train of thought but anyway fuck these people#misogyny#fuck reddit#politics#rant#2024 election

stop telling people that voting doesn't matter stop it stop it
incremental change is frustrating and feels like it gets nothing done but it's how the american government works (for better or for worse) and if you get paralyzed by 'we need to revolt voting doesn't matter' that's one more effective vote for the fascists since it's one vote we lose.
I'd much rather have slow but tangible progress (or even just prevention of fascist progression) than everyone sitting around going 'let's wait for the revolution' when no revolution is likely to come while everything gets worse around us.
Obviously, still do whatever it is else to support the antifascist movement. Donate where you can (and do your research!) Go to protests if you feel safe doing so. But do all that AND vote.

If anything wakes up the democrats, I would really think it would be the voter turnout numbers. Trump lost tons of votes between last election and this election, his fans might be more rabid than ever, but broad support for him has actually fallen significantly. The problem is just that the dems shit the bed so hard with Biden's presidency and then Harris' campaign that they lost all support
#it would have been an easy win if the dems hadnt done the worst they possibly could#you would think that hemorrhaging a massive lead in early polls as the election got closer would have been a sign for them to change cours#but they kept trying to appeal to moderate republicans and lost all the democrats without getting any of the republicans#even just biden having been more active during his presidency would have done a lot to keep some momentum#but they let everyone lose confidence in their team and then they started pandering to the right#of course they would lose

gotta say it feels like over the past ~3 weeks the Democrats suddenly realized this is a winnable election and are acting like it
#walz was far and away the best choice but i was bracing for shapiro or at best kelly#kelly is alright as mainstream democrats go and frankly better than you'd expect given political realities in arizona#but forcing an election to defend a senate seat in arizona in 2026 seemed like a very very bad move for democrats to make#and i'm glad they did not make that move and chose someone that can appeal to the progressive wing of the party

God I know everyone is celebrating right now because trump looks like an idiot and Harris easily wiped the floor with him but. I can't help but feel defeated by the things she was actually saying. Not even a platitude about climate action being important. No mentions of the recent shootings, just affirming her own personal gun ownership. Continued insistence on the US having "the most lethal military in the world" and reaffirming Israel's "right to defend itself."
Like. This debate was Establishment Republican vs. Delusional Republican. I know what's at stake right now, and I don't think we have anywhere near enough time to mobilize behind any kind of third party solution, so I will be voting for her when the time comes, but it just feels so bleak.
#i was crying by the end of the debate thinking about the attack on the al-mawasi camp yesterday#and how no one who can actually do anything about it seems to give a shit#because harris spends all of her time trying to prove shes not 'too far left'#which i get why shes doing that. trump is clearly flailing to keep a visible grasp on reality and shes trying to appeal to republicans#specifically the ones nostalgic for the 'old days' of republicans meaning the ones who could successfully construct a sentence#and she knows the democrats are too scared of trump being reelected to ever jump ship the other way#or dare vote for someone like jill stein who is just as fucking reactionary and opportunistic#idk. ill probably delete this later bc again i dont think its helpful right now#but im just feeling really hopeless rn#us politics

If Harris had better messaging and hadn't ceded ground to the right on core issues like immigration, we couldve seen much different results. 2020 saw historic voter turnout which this year did not match, and its the democratic party's fault for failing to put forth a candidate people has confidence in.
