i hope i dont offend anyone but like yk how aphrodite in pjo/hoo/toa etc changes form to whatever the view deems romantically/physically attractive? How would that work with an arospec/acespec person?? Would she be like sabrina carpenter or like garlic bread?

Sappho - Queer History and what Lady Aphrodite had to do with it
As it’s currently pride month, I couldn’t think of anything better suited to talk about this month than Lady Aphrodite’s role as the Patron of Lesbians.
Sappho’s poetry was mostly lost, and only fragments remain, with the first of these fragments and the one which is considered to be the only completed one (as there are only two parts where it’s hard to understand it) is her Ode to Aphrodite, through which Aphrodite gets labelled the patron of lesbians.
This poem is written in Aeolic Greek and Sapphic stanzas, a meter where three long lines of the same length were followed by a fourth shorter line. It was written in first person and was one of the most important things which proved that Sappho was in fact queer, as the person mentioned to be the object of her desires was female . The poem was written in form of prayer to Lady Aphrodite, and was written how most Ancient Greek hymns are, in three parts.
The contents of the poem were the speaker asking for Lady Aphrodite’s help in her longing for an unnamed female who’s caught the speaker’s eye. The speaker (who it’s believed to simply be Sappho) asks for Aphrodite’s help in easing her pain from the unrequited love she’s experiencing. After being invoked, Aphrodite appears to Sappho and comforts her by saying that the woman who rejected her will someday pursue Sappho herself. The poem ends with the speaker asking the goddess to help her in all her future romantic struggles.
Overall, this poem showed Aphrodite as a kind and caring goddess and helped cement the idea that she is happy to help wherever she can, no matter if it’s homosexual relationships or heterosexual relationships you find yourself in, which would help a lot of people come to terms with their sexuality, and would help a lot of her queer worshippers nowadays.

since it’s pride month, let’s talk about some queer Hellenic history and myths 🏳️‍🌈 ☀️ 🕊️
Apollo has been recorded to have several male lovers throughout greek mythos, including the Spartan prince Hyacinthus and the shepherd Branchus
“Shall I sing about you as a wooer, in loving liaisons,/how you would go forth courting the daughter of Azan along with/ godlike Ischys, the well horsed son of Elátios…”
— Homeric Hymn to Apollo line 205-210 tr. Rodney Merrill
Dionysus was said to have many male lovers, including his favorite Ampelos and the shepherd Polymnus (also known as Prosymnus)
“Beardless Ampelos, they say, a Nympha's and a Satyrus' (Satyr's) son, was loved by [Dionysos] on Ismarian hills… He trusted him with a vine hanging from the leaves of an elm; it is now named for the boy. The reckless youth fell picking gaudy grapes on a branch. [Dionysos] lifted the lost boy to the stars."
— Ovid’s Fasti 3.407 tr. Anthony Boyle
Iphis was born female, but raised as a male for their own safety. this leaves some question as to their “gender identity”, in modern terms, but they are undoubtedly queer. Iphis fell in love with the beautiful woman Ianthe, and prayed to be made a man so they could marry. their wish was granted by Isis, Hera, or Aphrodite (epithets and regional mythologies differ)
“The ram inflames the ewe, and every doe follows a chosen stag; so also birds are mated, and in all the animal world no female ever feels love passion for another female—why is it in me?"
— Ovid’s Metamorphoses, section 9
Hermaphroditus was said to be the son of Hermes and Aphrodite. Hermaphroditus is, by modern terms, intersex. they have male genitalia with female breasts, and their name is the origin of the word “hermaphrodite”. “Aphroditus” is also used as an epithet of Aphrodite, representative of androgyny and gender fluidity
Tumblr media
please keep in mind that our perception of gender and sexuality differs greatly from that of the ancient greco-romans. and as always, myths and sources differ! these were just a few interesting stories i found and wanted to share for pride month! 🩷
happy pride, everyone 💌🦢

I love my Goddess I love my Goddess I love her so much
So Aphrodite and I were discussing my transition goals and I was explaining to her that I go back and forth about wanting top surgery because I appreciate my boobs sometimes but never when I’m wearing clothes. I was saying that I might opt for a non flat top surgery instead of a full masculinization, but that I still have some anxiety about it. I have weird feelings about the concept of having to change something about myself to feel “man enough”. But i also know my wanting top surgery has little to do with feeling like a man and more to do with my discomfort of constantly having to bind and waste brain power on it. It’s exhausting and embarrassing.
and then I went on this rant about loving myself and accepting myself for what I am instead of changing things and I swear to Gods
Tumblr media
I have this kinky candle on her altar and as soon as I started saying stuff like “I know you’d probably want me to appreciate my body for what it is” the right titty of the candle started melting!!! and it felt almost as if she was saying “Fuck it I’ll chop my boobs off too if only to show you that I, a Goddess in all my divinity can alter myself too. And maybe I won’t. Maybe I like my boobs. Maybe I’ll keep one and chop off the other. Who cares!”
and i immediately got the feeling of “whatever you do will be good. Boobas, no boobas, you’re always going to be you and you’re always going to be mine. This body is yours to experience and you deserve to feel at home in it, regardless of what you decide to do”
and… yeah!!! YEAH!!! I’m allowed to be a guy with boobs. i’m also allowed to get a breast reduction instead of a full removal. I’m allowed to get a full top surgery too if I want. My flesh is not the thing that makes me, me. There’s literally no reason to suffer with it if it doesn’t serve me. Today I have tits, maybe tomorrow I won’t!
I immediately felt so relieved, actually cried a little bit lmao. Gods I love her so fucking much!!! 💕
