actually i feel like im being unfair to dating sims since i mostly play games that have a dating mechanic but dating isnt actually the main focus. and i never like the way they choose to implement it. maybe if i played a game that is totally dedicated to dating characters i would like it more

its ironic cuz i also read a lot of romance fantasy and i never end up caring about the romance as much as i care about the plot, but the plot only exists to serve the romance so i always end up disappointed, and i never learn i just keep reading more stuff in the same genre
