Flower Language

Rimicha - sunflower, birds of paradise Sunflower: Symbols of joy, adoration, and loyalty. There's a story in Greek Mythology of a nymph who turns into the flower after losing her lover Birds of paradise:  Symbols of joy, paradise, freedom, and a sense of exploration

Hallritt - red periwinkle - symbol of purity, everlasting love, loyalty to friends, and hope

Merold - white and pink easter lily, white chrysanthemum, baby's breath, white spider lily, white and pink rose, hyacinth - together as a bouquet, all these flowers symbolize devoted love and loyalty, feelings of strong familial love and homesickness, positivity, happiness and admiration for the receiver, along with "seeking forgiveness/deep regret" with the hyacinths

Mirror flowers: lily, daisy, carnation, 4th still unknown - Together as a bouquet, these flowers represent celebration/hope for happiness, love and connection. Some flowers also share a meaning of rebirth or missing someone

Broken Mirror

Broken mirrors typically symbolize a shattered self-image, fractured identity, and a sense of loss. I'll most likely be covering the voice drama in another post, but in the first episode, Hallritt is seen easily defeating a seed in one hit. Maybe Merold feels like his role as the strongest knight is being challenged? Which is why he accuses Hallritt of being a failure as a knight in the teaser for episode 2. In another scene, these two frames are right next to each other. Instead of the diamond flipping around like it did before, Merold just completely replaces Hallritt.

The MV also had multiple "waves"/glitches, which recently has been a recurring theme of Seed's presence.

ELDRITT/HALLRITT SYSTEM

Hallritt also feels a bit "off" in the MV. It's possible that it's Eldritch Hallritt/Eldritt/The "original Hallritt" currently present. It's a bit confusing to tell which timeline the MV is set in, but it might make more sense with the System Hallritt headcanon. Eldritt formed as a protector and gatekeeper who used to hide the truth from the "current Hallritt", before deciding it'd be beneficial if he knew the truth and did something about it. Following this, the MV is in the 2nd timeline as my timeline theory suggests (with the voice dramas being the 1st timeline), and Eldritt is simply fronting instead of Hallritt.

There's also this scene where Hallritt sings: "As if two hearts are on top of each other, I want to be connected by the same rhythm"

ELDRITCH MEROLD

Merold seems to know about the 1st timeline. He holds a ribbon, which is what represents the memories of that timeline in Ever Red. He is also seen multiple times with a corrupted version, possibly hinting at him having an Eldritch (seed corruption) form as well.

The lyrics seem to have him hinting at the 1st timeline to Hallritt. If you corrupt the future, you echo its dark history.

To summarize: Merold is threathened by Hallritt's strength, yet he also knows the truth of what he did/will do. He wants to get rid of him somehow, or at least keep him in his place. He put up a face to seem trustworthy, but someday, that facade will shatter like the mirror.

"Are you... Serious? Aren't we a little too old for that?" The former lawyer asked, sat beside your makeshift dorm room bed, incredulous, as you pointed at your phone, showing him a video of two teenagers playing Dance Dance Revolution. You sighed, because even though he had a point, you thought it'd be beneficial to try it in order to develop your synergy in the field.

You had been working alongside Higuruma for two weeks now, and on your third mission by his side, you had to save the sorcerer from being hit by the poison curse both were fighting, rendering you bedridden. Furthermore, you still had a couple of days to rest, but thought that, as long as there wasn't any actual fighting or cursed energy manipulation involved, you'd probably be just fine.

"Look, playing things like these has helped me improve my control over my cursed energy. It teaches you to move without thinking." You pointed out. "But if we do it together, maybe you will learn to sync your movements with someone else's. God knows you need it."

He scratched the side of his temple with his thumb, pensive, without any faith this would work. "I can get behind the principle in what you're suggesting, but aren't you still in your recovery period?"

"I am, but this is just dancing, not actual heavy training, you know? I think I'll be fine."

He looked at you, wearing pajamas and sitting on your bed. You still had a few wound dresses around your face and neck. The video showed an extremely vigorous dance game session, with all the jumping, stomping and pirouetting. Higuruma thought to himself that sparring would probably be a lighter exercise routine when compared to this. 

"This looks pretty intense, and no offense intended, but you don't seem to be ready for this much exercise at the present moment." He said, still staring at the screen.

You sighed, a little defeated, and leaned back against the wall on the side of your bed to think of an alternative. Even if he wasn't right — and he was —, there was still the issue of leaving Jujutsu High's headquarters and walking around Tokyo to find a joint that had Dance Dance Revolution.

Then, you had an idea.

"Higuruma, get up and put your chair over there." You said, pointing to a corner of the room. Curious, he followed suit, as you got up, and started to search around the songs you had saved on your phone. "I had an idea."

"And what was that? I might get behind it, or leave you to your own devices. You still need to rest and shouldn't be coming up with these kinds of shenanigans." He said, putting one of his hands inside his pants' pocket. Even if he was more open to collaborating accordingly with Jujutsu High, his demeanor was mostly uncooperative, overall. Higuruma was still feeling like a wild animal in domestication process, and you noticed that, trying to propose this exercise to chip away at his aloof facade. If this got him to fight less like a suicidal maniac, you'd be satisfied enough.

"I'm doing this in order to not get hurt again when trying to protect you from your lack of practice fighting alongside other people" you told him, still searching for something to play. He opened his mouth to answer you, but felt a light surge of guilt, choosing not to say anything instead. After all, it was his fault that you were injured like that. These little pinches of guilt and remorse creeping up on him were bringing Higuruma back to the real world and its consequences, after what happened when he awakened his cursed technique.  

"Ah, here it is." You finally found a song, and let your phone on standby over the bed. "We will dance together, and you'll let me lead, okay?"

He huffed, somewhere between a sigh and a sardonic chuckle, still in disbelief at your idea. "I have no problem with that, but is this really necessary?"

"Firstly, I'm bored out of my mind. If I don't do anything, I might actually go insane locked up in this room." You began answering. "Also, you're great when fighting alone, but an absolute menace to any ally around you when fighting with company. We can't have that being the norm when you're stuck working with me, and I'm stuck working with you."

Higuruma sighed, defeated, and acquiesced.

You took both of his hands and pulled him to stand right in front of you. Then, raised one of them to rest over your waist, holding the other around shoulder-high, and rested your own palm on his shoulder. "Are you ready?" You asked.

He simply shrugged. "I guess. I must warn you that I am not very good at this, though."

You smiled and parted from his hand briefly, extending your finger to press 'play', beginning to waltz around to the beat of the song. You chose something easy and slow enough to start out. Higuruma was stiff as hell, so you tried the simplest thing you could, trying to guide him two steps back, two steps forward. Your efforts were fruitless. He was sturdy and his body would simply not budge. The sorcerer was clearly having a lot of difficulty following your lead, ending up stepping over your toes a few times. On top of that, he was trying to follow your movements by looking at your feet, as opposed to feeling the movements of your body and following along.

"Ouch! Higuruma, what the hell? I feel like I'm dancing with a rock." You told him, stopping for a second.

"In my defense, I informed you I wasn't good at this" he pointed out.

You sighed. "This isn't difficult." You looked at Higuruma and pulled him closer, so he wouldn't have room to be looking at your feet in between your bodies. "Come on, look at my face, not our feet."

You felt his body tightening, as his shoulders stiffened and rose up slightly, startled at the sudden way your bodies had pressed against each other. You tapped the hand you had over one of his shoulders and said, "relax. If you don't, I won't have toes at the end of this. Inhale, exhale, you know the drill."

"Fine." Higuruma closed his eyes, inhaled, held his breath, exhaled and then looked at you. He seemed more focused now, and you began to dance again, pulling and pushing him slowly to the beat of the music. This time, he had his eyes locked on yours, and followed your steps appropriately, so you began to increase the difficulty. You started to dance circularly, and he followed your waltzing effortlessly, as you smiled at him.

"There you go. See? You're not so bad," you said, "not bad at all."

For the first time in months, he truly smiled. This was the first time you saw him smiling, actually, and you returned the expression.

Higuruma began thinking to himself that this, maybe, was really not bad at all.

The main characters, Himari Aozora and Mitsuki Hoshikawa, just entered in the Private Paradise Academy. Himari is always longing for making her AiPri debut and her dream is to make 10,000 friends! But she's so shy and a little of a crybaby, so it might be a little difficult... But unexpectedly Himari is now making her debut!? She can't even say it to her best friend Mitsuki. A "secret" has been made! But what's wrong with Mitsuki? There seems to be another "secret"…

With Himari and Mitsuki and their secret, their AiPri will start!!"

Buddy Daddies - Episode 9 - Preview is Up! - SPOILERS & SPECULATION!

It’s time for Sports Day! 

So, according to the summary, neither Kazuki nor Rei have ever participated in a children’s sports day, which makes sense. Rei had an unconventional childhood and Kazuki grew up without much money and without parents, so it’s unlikely that he went to daycare or preschool. 

(Thinking about, this would also explain why neither Kazuki nor Rei thought of daycare or preschool right away and only got the idea after seeing a daycare bus go by the park.)

This means that this children’s sports day will be all of their firsts! Mine too, kinda. I’ve experienced elementary school and junior high school sports days, but never a daycare/preschool sports day. I found a blog post written by a mother who went to one (I’ll link it below in the comments) and a lot of the events involve the parents in the activity.

At the elementary and junior high school level, parents usually aren’t all that involved, But at the daycare level, it seems they are! Especially for the little babies (which makes sense, because they are babies, they can’t do too much on their own).

Let’s look at some of the events we can see in the preview:

Tamaire - Bean Bag Toss

It looks like Miri is holding a white colored bean bag in her hand, so this is probably going to be some a bean bag toss game.

Here is a description of the event:

Tamaire (玉入れ) translates “Beanbag toss”, and as the name implies, it is an exciting game where students throw small beanbags into a basket hung at the top of a tall pole. Beanbags are scatted on the ground around the pole, and each bag has the color of its team, typically red or white. Teams compete against each other based on the number of beanbags in the basket. There is a time limit, and the beanbags thrown into the basket after the time ends are not worth any points.

Tug - of - War

Tug-of-War is a staple and is basically at every sports day and it looks like Miss  Anna is tugging at a rope here. How it will go down here...I’m not too sure. Usually you’ll see combos like the kids going against each other, or students against teachers (junior high school), or even like teachers against parents (one of the rare events where you might see parents participate in Sports Days aimed at older years). Maybe here it will be the Aozora Staff vs The Parents? Or maybe the older kids and Miss Anna vs The Parents, lol.

I don’t know! It should be pretty interesting though! Of course, I could be wrong here too, but tug-of-war would make sense.

Kumitaiso (組体操) - Maybe? Or Stretching?

I’m not 100% sure on this one. What is kumitaiso? 

Kumitaiso (組体操) is rather a group performance than individual competition. Students work together as a team and create a variety of gymnastic formations with their bodies.

Usually they make a pyramid, but this generally tends to be for older kids, and parents have noted in more recent years that it can be very dangerous, so many schools are getting rid of it. But maybe this is a more tame/safer and more simplistic version of something like that. But they could just be doing some kind of stretching activity here. If anyone knows for sure, feel free to let me know and I’ll add the info in!

Race

And, of course, we have the race. According to the summary, Miri practices with Kazuki in the park and she does end up in the lead, but then she falls right before the finish line! T0T Oh no, Miri! A lesson in things being out of our control sometimes? About losing and taking it okay? Both? Something else entirely? I’m intrigued to see which it will be!

Let’s see, outside of that we have... 

Rei scouting out the daycare, lmao! XD

It’s cute though! Rei is getting into the event in his own way.

It seems both him and Kazuki are getting really invested in it, so this may end up being a lesson for them too (like parents centering themselves in their children’s sports activities and making it more about them than their child - you know, the parent that gets super worked up over their kid losing something, maybe kinda like Kazuki looks here: 

But the kid will be totally fine. I can see them going with that angle. Since Buddy Daddies generally tends to be less about Miri learning some kind of lesson and more so about Kazuki and Rei learning something about parenting and themselves through raising Miri.

Changing up the focus a bit, one thing I’m really looking forward to is seeing Kazuki and Rei possibly interacting with the other daycare parents more (not just the Daycare Mamas!).

You can spot a Daycare Papa! in the background there too. It’s also just really common to see like the whole family come out for Sports Day events, so like moms, dads, older and younger siblings, even grandparents.

The idea of Kazuki and Rei being able to take part in something so...innocent and group building is such a heartwarming idea. Though, I am also fully preparing myself for an after-credits scene that will go back to the drama at hand and Kyutaro’s decision, etc. and that’s probably going to hurt even more after this episode (likely as the writers intended, lol).

Oh! Also, I love that we are seeing that follow through that I was hoping for from Episode 7! It seems Rei is going to be willingly choosing to make riceballs for Miri (enough that she could share them with her friends and others there too!). This lunch is going to be one that Kazuki and Rei make for their family together. T~T My heart! 

Also, Rei learning how to make something like a riceball is such a good place to actually start (instead of French toast, which requires more basic skills and knowledge). It’s an easy (and quick) meal to learn how to make well. If they end up tasting really good too, then that can act as a very quick and easy boost to his confidence with making and preparing food. It’s such a good step in the right direction! I hope the kids and parents like his riceballs! 

Anyway, I’m going to fully appreciate this breather episode before we jump into the angst, action (probably), and drama of the final act of the series (Ep. 10 - 13).

"May My Body Carry Time and Unwanted Emotions." (Cielomort Vessel Theory) – Aozora no Memory.

Sooooo, I've theorized that Ciel used his body as a vessel to store all of those negative emotions, to store the essence of the things that are important to people so he can lure the SEEDS and take them out once and for all in one go.

This came to mind because of the lyrics:

"The rippling bitterness, just drink it all up quietly..."

"Even though things may change during these dizzying days... Leave only your smiles for I will tuck away your loneliness into those clouds."

"Cut out the clouds and the blue sky... For they are the footprints of this waving memory, this memory of the blue sky."

"Even if those clouds that rode on blowing wind will never return... We'll continue to believe that the future will allow us to meet you again."

Let me discuss it lyric by lyric.

So, "The rippling bitterness, just drink it all up quietly." refers to how he used his body to store the negative emotions, therefore the flavor of those emotions being bitter when he "drink it all up quietly" as the lyrics would suggest. Now, I have no idea how this would work, maybe if he'd subject himself to immense hatred? Or if he uses some kind of spell to store all of those negative emotions instead? I have no idea, I just know that he will be using his body as a vessel, or more fittingly, as a bait.

"Even though things may change during these dizzying days... Leave only your smiles for I will tuck away your loneliness." - this still refers to him using this body as a vessel, but here, it's more of talking about the process in preparing his body to be used as a vessel.

"For I will tuck away your loneliness into these clouds." again, using his body as a vessel and how he's planning on doing it.

"Cut out the cotton clouds and blue sky... for they are the footprints of this waving memory, this memory of the blue sky." - so here, basically what I initially wrote for this line is that the cotton clouds and the blue sky symbolizes the bad memory of the past timeline, and to cut them out means to shut those bad memories and emotions away to make room for better ones. But I still think my hypothesis was true, there's one thing that I missed, which is the meaning of Cielomort's name; dead sky. So, if my theory is correct, and that he indeed used his body as a vessel to store the negative emotions to lure in the SEEDS then sacrificed himself, then to cut out the cotton clouds and the blue sky not only means to shut the bad memories out, but to also kill Cielomort, to kill the dead sky to give way to the new, blue sky that will cover Fragaria in only happiness for eternity.

Think of exfoliating to remove dead skin cells to make way for newer, healthier ones.

And finally "Even if those clouds that rode on the blowing wind will never return... We'll continue to believe that the future will allow us to meet you again." basically your usual 'he may not be with us physically, but he will always be with us in spirit and in our hearts because he's always looking down on us and his memory will continue to live on.' this especially applies to Ciel's fame. You have that then add in his sacrifice, his legacy would be one for the books, the blue sky symbolizing his sacrifice for the betterment of Fragaria even if he's not there to witness it himself. Which actually relates to yet another line "I wish to share it all with you, it would be nice if I could be within that "everything". But it's alright if your sky continues to remain blue." so long as the people of Fragaria will be happy, he will be happy himself as well en if he physically, and emotionally can't. He will.

Also, this essence of things stuff talks about Willmesh's involvement. So, remember my poem "The Genius of a Novelist"? Where basically I talked about how Willmesh had a bigger role in all of this and that's why there are books in the mv. And since, according to the website, Willmesh can grasp the essence of things, I believe that is his role, to grasp the essence of said things and store them into Cielomort to execute their plan.

Will Rei ever be able to finish a beverage at Yadorigi while on-screen?

It's not looking likely!

Episode 2

This is the first time we see Rei in Yadorigi. He has a tall and colourful drink. Kazuki, meanwhile, has a cup of tea.

Rei's certainly a man who can multitask; he uses the drink as an excuse to avoid making eye contact with Kyuu-chan (very smart).

Presumably, Rei finishes the drink. It's a good job that he does – from what we see, Kazuki doesn't let Rei have any peace in the café for the next few weeks.

Episode 3

On the 6th of February, Miri has her first day at Aozora Daycare! Hooray!

Rei gets yanked along into blowing off steam at Yadorigi. There's the addition of a natty little umbrella to Rei's glass; however, I don't believe that Rei feels as jovial as the umbrella would suggest. This time, his glass is decidedly smaller and squatter.

Could it be that he's preparing himself for the worst?

It's just as well that Rei didn't opt for a larger glass – Kazuki unceremoniously hauls Rei away.

There's still some orange liquid left in Rei's glass, but does Kazuki care?

Episode 5

We move on to early April; the hitmen are running out of money and are desperate for work. It's been two months since we last saw Rei being bullied at Yadorigi.

This time, Rei bravely orders a larger drink. Perhaps he'll be able to finish it. Perhaps Kazuki now lives by the motto, "Waste not, want not!"

Maybe.

However!

At the end of Episode 5, we see the pair at Yadorigi again. Rei orders his usual. He will NOT be thwarted by Kurusu Kazuki!

Episode 5 ends on a somewhat sombre note and we don't know about the status of Rei's drink at the end of the episode. Once again, I would assume that he managed to gulp it down while off-screen.

Episode 10

It's been a long time since we joined Rei at Yadorigi: we've moved through the year and it's now December. This time, Rei is joined by Kazuki and the one who may turn out to be his defender in this whole saga: Unasaka Miri.

Rei orders a tall glass of (what we would believe is) his favourite drink. Miri sits in the middle. Kazuki can't hurt Rei now.

While Kazuki's distracted by Miri, Rei sips his drink as quickly as possible. We haven't seen Rei sip his drink since the second episode.

Ah... remember those halcyon days?

Later in Episode 10, we find Rei and Kazuki back in Yadorigi. Rei has a tall glass once more, but it goes untouched. This perhaps reflects the sombre mood: it could be that Rei doesn't care about the drink at all but only bought one out of politeness.

So, what conclusion can we reach from all of this?

Buddy Daddies can only end once Suwa Rei is allowed to finish his whole drink.

because i'm sitting crying and need people to hear what i'm thinking about this PV i am brocken

edit: we’re making a few edits because i realized PV 2 exists and now i need to revise some parts so i don’t look like an utter clown next week (and please don’t trust me 100% with translations i’m using my very limited knowledge)

ok so starting off with this from PV 3, you can hear miri telling rei something along the lines of "Papa Rei! Get home quick, 'kay? Because today's!" before it just cuts to the next voice line

a birthday mayhaps? it might be miri’s birthday, it might be rei’s birthday, or it might be kazuki’s birthday and they’re preparing a surprise. unless it’s something else then literally please ignore this entire section

in PV 2, you can see her wearing a party hat along with streamers strung up behind her off to the side + another party hat at the corner of the screen

this means there IS a birthday (like i thought earlier before the edit) and it’s rei’s because kazuki is in the same room as miri while they’re talking

“Papa Rei looks lonely sometimes...” - Miri “Isn’t that guy just always grumpy?” - Kazuki

moving on, kazuki saying something along the lines of "I don't like this season/weather..." and a shot of a drawer opened to reveal a polaroid in the middle of many many knickknacks

judging by one of the shots in the opening,

his wife probably died in the rain and we're getting more information about the incident because it's been hinted at in the early episodes before it became parenting focused

and adding onto this because of a nice person in the replies!

the building behind him looks exactly like aozora daycare, just not sure if its the front or back (maybe the front bc of the hint of a blue gate beside him) but there doesn’t seem to be bushes planted anywhere near the spot where you can see the hydrangeas, so maybe it got planted a while later?

considering the clothes he’s wearing, this has to be before the dinner scene and is what leads up to it... the connections are getting stronger

you cannot convince me that this isn't rei's brother and that he isn't the favorite child

even rei (as seen from a flashback) couldn't call his father "dad" and that he should refer to him as "boss", but then there's this guy fighting him that calls rei's father as "father"

and something something about "Didn't Father tell you to return to the organization?" which implies he escaped the organization and got hired by kyutaro somehow

how he managed to get an apartment? i'll probably just say kyutaro did it i have no idea if he can even make forgeries like kazuki does

additionally: in PV2 you can see more of the gunfight between who i assume to be rei’s brother (older or younger? who knows)

and i assume this is set while miri and kazuki are waiting for rei to come back because it’s his birthday and they set up a nice surprise party for him, so, hoping he hurries back home because he can’t just stand them up like that on his own birthday

OK. NOW. THE SCENE THAT SPAWNED THIS ENTIRE POST.

there must've been some kind of falling out between rei + miri and kazuki because he was screaming "I'm... not your housekeeper!" during dinner

i'm suspecting that they finally got on his nerves if they never pick up after themselves properly or just the small stuff piled up onto kazuki and he had enough despite usually not really minding the fact that he has to do most if not all of the house chores

but another theory i have is that the scene with the photograph is connected and because of the stress, it leads up to him taking it out on rei and miri. i'm distraught i don't want to see this episode but i have to. mfs gonna have a sk8 episode 7 situation and i'm powerless to stop it

already saw a post or two about this one and i also hope it's just a red herring but judging by the shirt that rei has on which is different from the shirt he wears inside the house in earlier episodes, this was probably right after kazuki's meltdown

A photo of you and Kazuki is attached – the blonde man staring deep into your eyes, leaning across the table, a flirtatious smile on his face as the two of you enjoyed a mid-morning coffee. Your knees are brushing up against one another.

Yui: That doesn't mean anything, Sakura. They could just be friends catching up. I can’t believe you took photos!

Sakura sends a gif - a repeating video loop of you wiping the milk froth off of Kazuki’s top lip before he takes your fingers in his mouth and sucks, eyebrows raised seductively.

Aiko: Gosh, poor Papa Rei!

Mai: Poor Papa Rei? Poor me!

Masako: Sakura, did you really make a gif?!

Sakura: No, I took a video… my phone suggested it made a gif and I clicked okay.

Sakura: Out in the west side of the town for an errand and who do I see? The harlot and Kazuki! Rei did the drop-off this morning and seemed perky. I can’t stand it. I’m going to confront her.

“Kazuki, stop!” You giggle as the blonde man kisses your neck again. He’s been terrible all morning and you’re not quite sure what’s got into him. His hand slides up your thigh, dangerously close to going underneath your pleated skirt and you playfully slap it away. “I thought we were just going to have a nice lunch, what’s the matter with you?”

“It’s this outfit, it’s unfair…” He whines. It is quite the short skirt, but it hadn’t been your choice. You think now it might have even been on purpose, the scoundrel…

“Kazuki, fancy seeing you here!” A cheerful female voice chimes. You don’t recognise her, but Kazuki seems to, greeting her with a smile.

“Oh, Sakura! Yes, we’re just out for some lunch.” He nods to you, introducing you by name. “She’s my girlfriend. Sakura’s one of the other moms at daycare, baby.” Sakura’s face seems to darken at the nickname.

“Hi!” You smile brightly. Kazuki is a good-looking man – it’s not like you haven’t seen jealous women in the past.

“Mm, hello.” She replies, tersely. “Kazuki, would you mind awfully if we had a word in private?”

“Private? Er…” He looks at you, a puzzled look on his face. “What about?”

“I’m afraid I couldn’t say in present company.” She gives you a sour look. What on earth is this woman’s deal?

“Could we do this some other time, Sakura? I don’t mean to be rude but we don’t get much time alone together, you’ll understand, with kids and all…” He throws an arm around your shoulder, giving it a squeeze.

“Okay… I really didn’t want to do it this way, Kazuki, but I’m afraid she’s cheating on you.” Sakura places her hands on her hips, giving you a withering stare.

“Excuse me?!” You stand up from your seat but Kazuki pulls you back down to your seat immediately, preventing a cat fight. He knows your temper.

“You heard me, you harlot. It’s even worse, not only is she cheating, but she’s two-timing with Rei!"

Kazuki stares for a second before he erupts into laughter and you let out an exhale. Sakura looks back and forth between the two of you, in disbelief.

“I know that seems unlikely, but I’ve seen photos. I couldn’t stand to let this concubine hurt the two of you…” Her hand is rooting around in her purse now.

“What’s so funny?” Rei asks in his usual monotone voice, carrying a tray with a variety of drinks on top of it. Kazuki is laughing so hard he’s in tears. Rei places the tray down on the table and gives Sakura a hard stare.

Sakura is speechless now, trying to work out what on earth was going on. Was Aiko right and, actually, Rei and you were having an affair behind Kazuki’s back? Well, she couldn’t stand for that either. She locates her phone in her purse at last and scrolls through, finding the photographs of Rei and you in the video games store, looking particularly cosy. She hands it to Kazuki, who wipes a tear from his eye and looks.

“Oh.” His face settles back to a neutral position.

“Yes, oh.” Sakura chimes back.

Rei’s peering over Kazuki’s shoulder at the photo – his expression unreadable. He shrugs, before taking the seat the other side of you.

“Well, don’t you have anything to say for yourselves?” Sakura lectures down at you and Rei. Rei smirks, leans forward and makes eye contact with Kazuki, who gives him a sly grin. Rei’s hand slides around the back of your neck and jerks, turning you towards him before he forces his tongue into your mouth - not that you give much resistance - kissing you passionately, nibbling at your lip as if he was starved – his hand sliding up and under the skirt he’d bought for you at the same time.

He pulls away, leaving you breathless a moment and smiles up at Sakura who is standing there, shell-shocked. The audacity of the two of you, doing this in front of Kazuki! Poor, sweet Kazuki who looks... pleased? Kazuki then turns in his seat towards you, catching your chin in his hand and pulls you into his own kiss. He’s more gentle than Rei, his other hand caressing your head, running his fingers through your hair, softly kissing you over and over, before he pulls away.

“What on earth…?” Sakura forces out, looking in disbelief between the three of you.

“Sorry, I should’ve made it clear from the start, she’s our girlfriend.” Kazuki wraps an arm around your shoulders, and Rei’s hand rests back on your thigh. You’re flushed, trying to catch your breath. They’ve never done this in public before – not that you’re embarrassed. You mean, fuck, you love it when they tussle over you at home, but it just was so unexpected.

“I… I… I’m so sorry, Kazuki, Rei. I didn’t mean to…”

“I hope this won’t be an issue, Sakura. I really hope we can all still be friends.” The blonde states.

“Y-yes, of course,” she bows her head. “Forgive me for interrupting your…date. I’ll see you all at pick-up time - maybe.”

She backs away, her body shaking, before she high tails it out of there.

“That poor woman. You guys are jerks.” You giggle.

“We’re your jerks, though,” Rei whispers in your ear and you shudder.

“Hmm. I think I’m thirsty for something else now, actually. How about you, Rei?” Kazuki grins, getting to his feet and stretching.

“I wouldn’t argue. Come on, sweetheart.”

You had quite the afternoon.

Aiko: Sakura, you can’t leave us hanging like this. I’m going to bring cookies to pick-up though in case they need consoling, poor things.

Sakura: I did it.

Masako: And?!

Buddy Daddies & Music: Recap Episode

So the recap episode didn’t bring anything new plotwise, but it did give me plenty to dig into with the music.

Most of Kazuki’s first narration section, up to the title card, has background music that feels almost reminicsent of a circus or an arcade game, probably to highlight exactly how unprepared he and Rei were to look after a kid. The bright chords and fast tempo also serve to highlight the feeling of being rushed and overwhelmed. The failed hit job from episode 2 is accompanied by the usual action jazz, not really anything new there. Kazuki’s meeting with Miri’s mom keeps it’s soundtrack from episode 3, with Misaki singing her song, and a melancholy piano version playing during their conversation. Interestingly enough, the clarinet and piano theme I identified earlier in the series, “Miri’s Family”, doesn’t play once during Kazuki’s first narration section, not even in places where it plays in the original episodes, like the “For three?” “For three.” dialogue.

However, “Miri’s Family” does play in Rei’s narration section, right after he decides that yes, he can be a Papa to Miri. This is exactly where it plays in Episode 3, but I find it interesting that Rei’s section keeps it and Kazuki’s doesn’t. I suppose it’s meant to highlight how significant this is for Rei and how much this will change their family dynamic. This time, it continues through the scene of all three of them having a sleepover.

Miri’s disaster montage keeps its original music. We get light jazz playing throughout the scenes where Rei and Kazuki are getting Miri ready for daycare. The arrival at Aozora daycare keeps its original music as well. The scenes with Miri and her friends sharing lunch as well as the fight with disguised!KazuRei and the criminal also keep their original music. Miri and Kazuki’s resolution also keeps its original trumpet- and flute-heavy soundtrack.

What almost sounds like a lullaby played on a celesta (music-box sounding instrument, also sometimes called a bell piano) plays while Rei and Miri discover Kazuki’s note, maybe to emphasize how childishly they’ve been behaving lately? Or perhaps to indicate a kind of wake-up call for Rei?

Kazuki’s flashback to Yuzuko’s death also retains its soundtrack, and so does his conversation with Karin.

Unsurprisingly, we keep the basson for Rei’s conversation with his boss. That man is creepy as hell and they’ve already got a good instrument for him, so why change it?

Most surprising to me was that “Miri’s Family” starts playing right after Rei kills his mentor, while he’s thinking on the dock, and continues until Kazuki picks him up. That was not what played there during Episode 8, and that seems pretty significant. It means that Rei thinks that what just happened means something for their family, and he’s just come to some sort of big revelation about it. Sadly we don’t get to find out what he thinks is important or why, since the show cuts him off right then in the form of Kazuki.

Can’t wait to see what the next episode brings and if my predictions still hold true, since this recap hasn’t really shown us much new in terms of plot. See you when the trailer drops!

Yuuya Kanata chuckled, shaking his head as he set the little notecard down. He lifted the lid to the present that was delivered to him.

Inside was a somewhat firm stuffed animal in the shape of a deer that was almost half the size of his upper body.

At long last when the reddish haired boy had returned to his home after relaying his Christmas presents to another division due to the ‘Secret Santa’ campaign, it seemed like his turn had come to receive some gift from his secret ‘Santa’ too.

Looking at the big deer plushie while softly chuckling, Yuuya picked up the fluffy stuffed animal from the box he found at his doorstep and took it inside his room.

“Here we go, newcomer. Why not befriend Mr. Greenie over there?”

The boy gently placed his stuffed animal gift beside the dinosaur plushie he received from his graduated senior last year, then he recalled his secret Santa’s name.

Makina Setsukura? Oh, that’s the gamer girl whom he and Hi-chan had sent some birthday presents to previous September. Nice to know that she still remembered him even if he didn’t really interact much with her in person. And if he wasn’t mistaken, she was one of those numerous streamers Takane had befriended online.

Takane was the name of his classmate who, in fact, had an alter online-sona known under the name ‘Aozora’ and was actually Makina’s upperclassman at the academy —Only if she knew his true identity. This low-energy friend of his was also happened to be the regular client of Kiyozaki-san as well since he still had some problems with his insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness ongoing from past two years. 

But Yuuya was sure his friend didn’t know that one of his online fellows did turn out to be a resident at his therapist’s place too

—Pfft, internet and coincidence were definitely curious things, weren’t them? 

Suddenly, he felt the intense glare from somewhere behind his back.

“Phew. Is it just you, Ojou-chan?” 

Facing off his intensely staring kitten who was now hiding herself in the empty present box, Yuuya gave out a sigh of relief. He was never good with the spooky kind of stuff and that made him wonder how those two streamers could have fun playing some hair-raising horror games even in the middle of night.

“I’m afraid this unfortunately isn’t your new toy. I just got this from one of my friends out there. Uh, so, no scratch on this one please?”

“Meowwrrr.”

“Okay, okay. Aren’t you satisfied with the new toy I got for you last week? Fine, want me to add some more scratching posts to your house?”

“Meowwwrrrrr.”

“This isn’t it? Eh... Then what else can I do…”

Slightly tilting his head as if using his thought, he soon followed the direction of her stare and finally understood why his petite kitten was glared daggers at him.

“—Wait, are you looking at this thing? Hi-chan had made it for me and everyone in the team, so don’t worry, it can neither hurt you nor me.” 

He picked up one end of the weird-looking cat scarf on his neck and hurled it around in the air to show his petite roommate that this lifeless piece of cloth can’t be harmful to anyone.

The Siamese kitten looked at him in disbelief as she gave her final hiss while jumping out of the box. She cautiously stepped back, still eyeing his scarf like some kind of paranoid predator until she thought herself was far enough and ran away.

Even though she was always behaving like a little kid with him, somehow Yuuya felt like his Ojou-chan was a tad bit more understanding than normal cats. 

But, oh well, this funny thought might be nothing but his imagination anyway.

Hello, please excuse me for barging in with a relatively long text. I'm not trying to be rude, but I will probably come across as smart-ass anon. If I'm horribly wrong someone can correct me. I just want everyone to be aware and to watch out and double check when in doubt.

I think, you should be careful with characters named Aoi claiming to mean blue in Japanese. More often Aoi as a name is not blue and even some fandom wikis have it wrong.

But there is a simple rule...

Aoi written with the Kanji 葵 is not blue. It is a noun meaning hollyhock (a plant with very nice flowers!).

Aoi written with Kanji 青い is an adjective meaning blue, blue-ish. The noun for the blue, the blueness, would be Ao (青) without the "i". You can see the colour meaning with Ao (青) more in compound names like Aoyama (青山 green mountain*) or Aozora (青空 blue sky) for example.

So it might be more common to name characters and actual children after a flower. Instead of the adjective blue-ish.

Finally, there is also the Aoi who is not written in Kanji but simply with あおい or アオイ. As here no descriptive Kanji are used, the meaning is open to interpretation and what might more fitting to the character (is the character more a flowery type or a blue type due to hair or clothes? Or maybe both a flowery type with a lot of blue colour theme in the character design?).

*I use green mountain rather than blue mountain in a translation. Japanese doesn't necessarily distinguish blue and green. Ao/Aoi can indeed mean both blue and green.

I've worked on a tournament before and got more familiar with kanji (including non descriptive ones) then -I'm still not an expert but I understand the system better than I previously did-. That doesn't work that well with non descriptive kanjis but just copy-pasting kanjis in the images search engine also helps. There are two ways of writing Sakura with descriptive kanjis (one is more used in first names and means cherry blossom and I can be wrong but from memory the other one is about warehouse and help and used for surnames)

I knew for the polysemy of Aoi because you all are champions for saying "I know the original meaning isn't xxx but -" but some submitters didn't seem aware of it (well I prefer to think they weren't. This is a silly tourney and honesty is the basis of courtesy)

I didn't know about blue and green, that was very enlightening. I'm glad many more people think green and blue look quite similar (we have a family running joke about never agreeing on colors, especially not blue VS green. "Look how blue the lake is." "What are you on ? Looks green." "More black-ish imo." "Take of your sunglasses. It's blue-green you all" "What do you mean green, it's obviously teal", "Isn't teal a green shade ??" "No, it's blue" "Wait let me check with my phone")

Thank you for the Japanese dictionary, I browsed a few for tourney purpose before but didn't know how accurate they were.

I wasn't planning to accept characters with wrong kanji without and make you all decide about the ones with a good explanation on a case by case basis. I'm also putting explanations for non English names and rarer English names on all the polls. This is comforting me in my choice.
