Names are important

GRRM doesn't choose random names and the names in AOIAF mean something especially for the main characters maybe not so much for the minor ones though. Some are hints to their possible endings and some are connections they have made through the books and some are names that links heavily to their house or birth status.

Name meanings for each of the main POV characters and gifs, though not for all.

Tyrion is a Latin originated name that means 'rock'. Tyrion being a Lannister was born and raised at Casterly Rock, it's the Lannister's seat of power. So this name is something Tyrion is connected to from the very beginning but it could also hint at his possible future of him becoming Lord of Casterly Rock by the end of the story.

Jon which is another way to write John, means graced by god. Sorry no gif for this one as I wasn't sure what would fit. But this could be a hint that he will indeed be the Prince who was promised. We also have to factor that this might not be his real name either.

Daenerys comes from Welsh origins meaning lady of light. I mean she was the one who birthed Dragons from the fire and fire/light is present throughout Dany's chapters.

Arya comes from Sanskrit origin meaning noble. It can also mean Spiritual which I'm guessing is connecting her to all the stuff that is going on with her right now.

Brienne also means noble and has Irish origins, it can also mean High. I guess just a connection to her High born status.

Sansa is also of Sanskrit origins meaning praise or charm. Sansa is the one always getting praised by others. I don't know it's all I could come up with.

Bran means Raven or Crow. I mean this one speaks for itself really.

Catelyn comes from Greek origins meaning Pure. I took the inspiration for the Gif of Pure water because of Catelyn's house being the Tully House having a connection to water and their symbol being of the Trout. I'm also guessing the Tully house is of the brown Trout since the house is more closely connected to rivers and lakes rather than the sea. Brown Trout live in Freshwater habitats. So you can really link Catelyn's name to her Tully roots.

Cersei comes from Greek origins meaning Bird. Cersei is a bird, and a caged one at that. It's ironic because Cersei likes to call others caged birds when in reality she is one herself and maybe even more so.

Jaime is a Hebrew name meaning he who supplants. I really don't know how this will fit in with Jaime really.

Ned, which is short for Eddard means wealthy guardian. Ned became Hand of the King and he was Lord of Winterfell, being a Guardian of sorts has always been in the inner structures of Ned's character.

Davos is English meaning either Son of David or beloved.

Samwell is another form of Samuel which means God has heard. I guess this is also something that will come to pass in the next two books.

Theon can mean, Godly, God, God of gods. It usually has Greek origins. I put angels wings for a various of reasons one being angels have a strong connection to god but also other reasons. I think Theon is the most interesting when it comes to names because at first glance he doesn't fit the name Theon but I think like Sam he's a character who's name will become more clear in the later two books.

Asha means one who lives well. Asha has always lived a good life in a lot of ways and while she still has to live in a society made by men for men she has still thrived. She is well liked, well respected within the Ironborn community and she captain's her own ship. Asha really isn't a main POV character but I think she might become one next book so I thought I'd add her as well.

cheating is a thing in Westeros, sono, Rhaegar isn't that bad in the characters' eyes when it's a common thing, and no, he didn't cheat. Elia was Dornish, and it's in their tradition, so she would accept it. And that makes Rhaegar much less guilty in Elia's eyes.

As for the favoring Lyanna over

Elia...well, the truth is Lyanna is the prophecy woman just as Rhaellaonce was. She plays a role in savingWesteros with Jon. She did more likable and attention attracting things like fighting against injustices while Elia only brithed children for the prophcey that ended up not related to the prophecy.

So, it is a normal reaction. Lyanna actually did something.

If Aegon is going to be alive, then he will not be important like Jon nor as honorable or good-hearted. He'll be Daenerys' enemy.

As for the pesants' deaths, they were for the greater good. Cruel but inevitable. But I agree some of them were unnecessary like Rhaegar's children, BUT they had nothing to do with Rhaegar or lyanna. I guess the author is trying to say that the prophecy children should come from only certain people, and Elia, unfortunately for her, stood in the way of the prophecy.

It may seem unfair, but that is the world of the AOIAF.

If Elia should accept her kingdom's tradition about *cheating* as you put it and had absolutely no problem with it (even though Arianne threatened Arys, Lord Yournword fought Oberyn. Oberyn never married, so he doesn't stay committed to someone, Doran married for love and stayed single afterwards.) then Lyanna had no right to complain about Robert's outside of marriage sexual activities and should have carried on with marrying him. Since cheating a tradition in Westeros.

The normal reaction for you is that Lyanna escapes Robert and choses a married man but Elia should accept being abandoed for someone else after all she sacrificed?

You are sick. You are so passive-aggressive against a woman who gave everything for that nasty prophecy that you claim to be more important than thousands of deaths. A woman who paid a very high prince for Rhaegar's pitiful desires, Lyanna, to be free from Robert,Aerys madness and Tywin's grudge only to be raped and killed with her children's blood on her.

You are sick for thinking the prophecy justifies anything. Or that Rhaegar and Lyanna were heros.

Elia didn't stand in the way of the prophecy. She is standing in the way of your ugly and nasty ship.

The Loss of Magic in Adaptations

I've noticed that in a lot of media (TV shows, movies, some books) it's such a popular trend to end the story by removing the magic or supernatural elements. Now in movies like HTTYD this is played as a separation for the betterment of both the magical (the dragons) and the normal, but they are still able to interact at times. Others, like BBC's Merlin, have the loss of magic as a tragedy or a consequence of the character's actions. Yet others, like LOTR, simply have it as a sign of a shift to a new age. All of these examples I don't have an issue with, the ones I do are when the loss of magic creates plot holes, messes up character arcs, and rewriting the world building. What I'm going to focus on in this post are the decision to remove magic and the supernatural from Game of Thrones and the Star Wars franchise.

The first example I'll give is Game of Thrones. The AOIAF books are full of magic, from glass candles to forest witches to ice zombies and dragons. In the adaptation, the show runners made the decision to remove most of the magical elements. This decision not only removes major plot points, it also takes away from the characters themselves. For example, Euron Greyjoy from the books possesses a dragon binder of Old Valyria, is going to Old Town to take the magic glass candles from the Citadel, and wants to bring about the apocalypse. In the show, since they took away the magical elements of his story, he is simply a man who wants power and a good fuck. He is completely undermined as a character and turned into an ineffective villain. Another example is the character Quaithe. She is a shadowbinder from Asshai who visits Daenerys through visions throughout the series and encourages her to visit Asshai. She has been set up as important to the future of Daenerys' character and her future with the dragons. In the show, however, she is reduced to saying a single line to Jorah in one episode about how Daenerys needs protection in Qarth. Speaking of Qarth, GOT completely removed Daenerys' prophetic visions in the House of the Undying, basically removing a major part of her Qarth storyline. These decisions among many others negatively impact the show and it was only done to appeal to "normal" people in the audience (ie, non fantasy nerds).

Star Wars is another franchise that suffers from some kind of distaste for supernatural elements. Star Wars is not usually thought of as a magical, but let's be real here, the Force functions as a magical system and it is a supernatural element, so I'm counting it. Dave Filoni has done a lot to pull SW back into the very supernatural story it was in the original and prequel trilogies, with the focus on the Force and Force-users in the Clone Wars, Rebels, and Ahsoka shows. However, this seems kind of pointless because of the sequel trilogy. I've done a post on this, where I basically said that the sequel trilogy makes the world building Filoni is doing kind of obsolete. I won't rehash that here, instead I'm going to talk about how the force itself is portrayed. At the time of the sequels, the Force has returned to turmoil despite Anakin's sacrifice. The Jedi are all but extinct and the sith are rising again. By the end, Rey has decided the Jedi must stay gone and the galaxy is left with a massive power vacuum after the fall of the New Republic and the First Order. The Jedi are meant to be protectors of the balance of the Force, clearly they lost sight of that during the Old Republic and Luke in the sequels has also failed. Yes, perhaps the Jedi as a name or religion should fall, but their ultimate goal is still proven to be necessary. Yet, there is no set up for a continuation of that goal; Finn is not training his abilities, nor does he seem to want to and Rey agrees the Jedi should be gone but there is no conversation about what should happen now. There is also a clear lack of the Force in the galaxy. In the original trilogy, this is explained by the Empire's efforts to take force sensitive children and turn them into Inquisitors as well as it's goal of suppressing powers that could oppose them. Yet there is no growth of the Force now that it is rebalanced and unsuppressed. It's fading, just like magic in stories like LOTR, but the Force is meant to be an all-encompassing thing that extends beyond just Force sensitive creatures. Therefore, making it so the Force is fading into obscurity is rewriting what is supposed to be a concrete truth of the franchise.

There are other examples of this desire to remove magic (and magic adjacent things) from media. Like taking the inherent magic surrounding the elves in Rings of Power and removing the elves and dwarves from the Eragon movie. There's nothing wrong with magic and the supernatural, especially when it's such an integral part of the story.
