I know this isn’t a new phenomenon but for them to have a whole TikTok shop for this and to be selling them at such a high price and for people to have actually bought them?? Reading laylajeffany's and boojangs' posts I couldn't help but be surprised, because my only knowledge of the whole "kudos bot/AO3 web crawler" mess was that it had been around for three years at least but was a relatively harmless nuisance.

But searching for info on what is happening to them and other authors, I find that for the last year or so there has been another bot and that it is being deliberately targeted at specific fandoms and authors to inflate and unbalance their Kudos counts and make them targets for harassment campaigns using accusations of self-promotion or other bullshit.

Apparently the theory is that it could be related to content scrappers trying to steal fanfics for their own purposes (?). What is the logic behind doing something that forces authors to make their content private and lock their stories, I don't understand. Alternatively, there are people who are just plain assholes and mean-spirited like that, who probably just want to cause harm/stress.

Art for Donations?

Well. Since the state of my country is, well. What it is. I thought it might be a good idea to open fic or art requests in exchange for donations to the ACLU or the Trevor Project (donor's choice). And, unless for some reason I get a bazillion requests, I'd like to match those donations!

I'd be willing to do fic or art. For fic I'm happy to do pretty much anything Trigun, smut included. For art I'm happy to draw Trigun stuff, OCs, animals, your pets...

TikTok is most likely under metas umbrella now, maybe not publicly but privately. with that being said changes are being made to the platform, For instance videos about American politics that promote leftist ideology in any small amount are being flagged as “possibly incorrect” and the platform encourages people to not share the content, they also only allow you to share to one person at a time. Less people are having their voices heard. The government is trying to convince us we have free speech but we are very much under their censorship.

Content has been removed, taken down, flagged, etc. content that criticizes the government, content that SPECIFICALLY criticizes Trump and his little band of oligarchs. People speaking out about his corruption are being banned on TikTok. I don’t use twitter but I’ve heard the same is happening over there and has been for a while, same with facebook (feel free to fact check me on that and let me know, it’s possible I’m wrong)

Never take anything at face value.

To put it plainly we are progressing to becoming the type of dystopian society we read in books as children. The kind of society that we told ourselves was too outlandish or exaggerated to ever exist.

Idk if this’ll work, but I don’t think a lot of us would mind AO3 putting ads in place, if it’ll stop them getting hit by the non profit kill bill- like not selling our data, but like generic ads that people pay to put on the Home Screen, or whilst you’re scrolling for something to read, like Tumblr does. It’s not ideal, obviously, and I don’t know if that’s a potential solution, but still.

okay, you local australian law student would like to correct some widespread misinformation about the recent under 16 social media ban in australia.

let me translate the legalese for you:

it will affect tumblr unless otherwise explicitly excluded.

This is because it defines 'age restricted social media' as

(a) an electronic service that satisfies the following conditions:

(i) the sole purpose, or a significant purpose, of the service is to enable online social interaction between 2 or more end-users;

(ii) the service allows end-users to link to, or interact with, some or all of the other end-users;

(iii) the service allows end-users to post material on the service;

(iv) such other conditions (if any) as are set out in the legislative rules; or

(b) an electronic service specified in the legislative rules;

but does not include a service mentioned in subsection (6).

Subsection (6) = something explicitly excluded in the legislative rules, where the government will elaborate and name and shame particular social media, but just because something is not in that list, does not mean it is not included in the ban.

Anyway. Tumblr is definitely included under the broad legislative definition, so it is covered by the under 16 social media ban, at least technically.

Is this ban a good thing? No, but don't spread misinformation.

You won't find me mentioning any of my specific fanfics there, I don't share any fanfiction content there, and while I post some links to chapters at the end of the month, I don't even announce fanfiction chapter updates there.

Patreon is the wrong place to be for fanfiction, it's kinda against the law! So Patreon is an original fiction space and focuses most on my original fiction.

You might not be aware, but I actually have another account for fanfiction. You've probably seen me updating fanfics there like A Stain that Won't Dissolve and Palmarosa, but if you're not interested in either of those, you might not have clicked over / realised that was a completely different account, or that I have a lot of fanfiction there across a lot of fandoms.
