Roshan walks with the two Potts, gazing around at the fields and forests painted in warm colors by the setting sun. He remarks, "It is a lovely view from here."
Gazing outward, past the broken walls he had put up 20 years ago, Arthund nods and says, "Forgot. Forgot how... how pretty it all is."
I recently finished running an original oneshot for some friends, The Reaching Woods. It was a story about a little village surrounded by a big wall and the nearby forest's sudden overgrowth threatening to crush it all. It was also a story about blame and guilt.
Arthund Potts, when we met him, could barely speak at all. Too many years spent drinking and weeping. If he was even conscious he was all grunts and sloppy gestures. The scene above was at the end of the oneshot (okay, eighteenshot), once the party returned from the dark, evil woods.

You know, reading the Orphic fragments...for a god who is basically absent from Dionysus' childhood, Apollo was much more involved in Zagreus' life.
Apparently, Apollo was appointed to guard Zagreus and he tried stopping the child from going to the Titans. After the Titans tore him apart, Apollo either buried his body parts in Delphi, or in other versions he just put Zagreus back together.
You'd think he'd be interested in having a hand in Dionysus' upbringing too, but no. The explanation I came to with in my head is that he was either too traumatized with the Zagreus incident, or he didn't get involved in order to keep Dionysus on a low profile.
#apollo#zagreus#dionysus#anyway when I read yesterday that Apollo tried to stop his brother from approaching the titans#i was devastated#shattered I tell you#Apollo ily but you did not do a good job protecting Zagreus sjduejsh#hc that Apollo actually took the body for burial#but he was so beside himself with guilt and sorrow that just ended up stitching back the parts and bringing it back to life#anyway Zagreus has got me interested in him tbh#I'm interested in him for one specific thing and that for that only#I'll post about it later but yeah#I'm having the feels tbh#mine

you get riz gukgak so well 👍👍
thank u!! he really kinda is all of my favourite character things rolled into one package (negotiation of principles/investigator-truth seeker-negotiator with reality and the narrative/obnoxious character whose narrative reward for participating in the story is getting to be even more authentically obnoxious/deeply and hauntingly aroace
#not art#everything else abt him is also compelling so Im just eating well while crying over here#the aroace part I believe from the bottom of my heart the moment he bribed a girl in freshman year First Day Of School to eavesdrop for him#In The Girl's Bathroom. like the decision itself isnt far off from a lot of noir stuff trapp's character in mentopolis did the same#but the supreme lack of awareness of what that decision says abt you in a social setting. now That's aroace#the only reason I dont read him as agender too is bc he didnt straight up waltz in there lmao#honestly bouncing off of that I also thinks folks sometimes downplay or buff off how cringe riz is... but its my favourite thing on earth#esp. in tandem with the Everything else abt him. theres an insistence in the genres he pulls from on the greater good and losing#ur real self in the work and being maybe strange but above all The Guy Who Gets The Job Done. and riz pushing the limit of that is awesome#like as a character I feel like some of it is like yeah I do get the job done. if it kills me even. how Strange do I get to be#or is it just being strange in a domineering and mysterious magnetic way. I will be cringe actually deal with that for my service#this and the part of his character that's yknow. Living While Goblin. that's a deeply compelling dynamic to me#anyways uhhh once again typing huge paragraphs abt this guy lmao. this happens forever I let it#anyways for the reason of spy theming and information dealer if u do class swap AU I propose bard!riz#u know. what is disguise if not a sister to stealth (<- extremely transgender sentence to say)

Pharma's place in a Functionist society (headcanon)
So I've talked in some previous posts about all the reasons that Pharma isn't a functionist because canon never showed him espousing functionist ideals + he's actually in a place to be a victim of functionism. And I've been working on a Pharma-centric oneshot that made me put into words the best metaphor I can think of for Pharma's relationship with Functionism:
He doesn't support Functionism, but is simultaneously a beneficiary of it and also marginalized by it, because his position of being forged both a doctor and a jet basically turns him into a "token minority" of sorts.
I know that sounds kind of silly or maybe like a clumsy political allegory, but hear me out. There are a couple facts about Pharma and the circumstances of his forging that put him at the crossroads between privilege and marginalization within Functionism:
Tyrest says that Pharma was "famous for being forged." Not famous for being a forged medic-- otherwise surely Ratchet would be just as noteworthy-- but famous for being FORGED. But also, note that this is an opinion that SOCIETY had about Pharma, not something that Pharma espouses about himself. (For the sake of an example, Pharma isn't Starscream, who has an explicit, deep-seated need for others' love and approval. Pharma himself doesn't express any opinions on his own popularity or convey that fame/adoration is something he wants.)
Functionism on Cybertron held that if someone was born with a certain alt-mode, they can/should only have certain jobs. For people born with flight alt-modes, those people were almost always regulated to military or transportation/courier jobs
SIMULTANEOUSLY, Pharma was forged with medic hands, which under a Functionist society were viewed as the peak of medical care and all the best doctors were forged or at least had a "special something" that non-forged hands lacked (according to Ratchet).
So taken in combination, this means that from the moment of Pharma's birth, he straddled a line of Functionism between two different "predestined" paths for him, where he was simultaneously forged to be a doctor and also forged to fly, fitting into BOTH of these categories despite norms of Functionism which say you're one or the other. And I speculate that the reason Pharma is "famous for being forged" is precisely because of those lines he straddles: his very existence is a contradiction, but he was also FORGED that way. The same creed that dictated the two different functions of "hands" and "alt-mode" also says that Pharma should be what he was born to be. What he was born to be was a forged medic jet.
In my opinion, I think that being "famous for being forged" is sort of like a token-minority situation for Pharma, where perhaps Pharma was seen as a curiosity or even something exotic, not just as a person. Maybe because he was a jet and people assumed jets were only soldiers/transportation, a lot of his achievements were put in the light of "Oh, he's a really amazing doctor, for a jet" or "It's crazy that he's a doctor AND a jet at the same time". The attention Pharma received for the unique circumstances of his birth WAS positive, but it would've likely been framed in a bit of a condescending way, as if Pharma is noteworthy and famous not for being a good doctor, but for being a good doctor despite being born a jet.
So I would say that as far as Pharma's personal experience with Functionism, he simultaneously experienced privilege and marginalization. He enjoyed the privileges of being a medic while avoiding the restrictions of being a flight frame. However, a lot of the idolization and attention he received would have also come from a place of tokenizing Pharma: he's "famous for being forged," because in this society he's defying expectations merely for existing as himself. That is to say, Pharma in a Functionist society wasn't treated as remarkable because of who he is as a person and how hard he worked to be a good doctor; he was treated as remarkable for the circumstances of his forging, something he had no control over and can't change, and apparently Pharma being a forged medic jet is such a noteworthy origin that he's "famous" for it.
The above paragraph is purely headcanon, of course, but I like to imagine that part of Pharma's reason for having a big ego isn't out of simple vanity or insecurity, but because of a sort of "gifted student" syndrome, in a sense. From the moment he was forged he was treated as a rarity and an incredible phenomenon, and he would have had to work incredibly hard to be seen as "an incredible doctor" in his own right rather than just "that forged medic jet." Maybe, as a jet, he also had something to prove; he had to show to a Functionist society that being a jet doesn't make him an inferior doctor and that his alt-mode has nothing to do with his skills at his profession.
That is to say, I don't think Pharma would have been openly anti-Functionist, or had many opinions about it at all. I actually lean towards the interpretation that Pharma basically saw himself as getting lucky with the way he was forged and being content with the fact that he'd managed to carve out a reputation for himself as being incredibly skilled. However, Pharma not getting involved politically in Functionism doesn't change the fact that he WOULD have had a very complicated relationship with Functionism, in that alt-mode discrimination would have had an effect on him even though he was in the scientific/medical class and supposedly privileged.
#mtmte#mtmte pharma#transformers idw#transformers meta#mtmte meta#squiggposting#pharma apologism#pharma doesn't fit neatly into categories of privileged or oppressed and that makes him especially interesting#tldr: pharma probably got microaggressioned a lot at work lmao#some med student: oh my gosh... a flight frame in medical school... how did you manage that?#omg pharma it's so craaazy that you can fly and you're also a doctor#wow pharma your hands are incredible it's a good reason you have them or they probably wouldn't have let you in#pharma smiling tightly with a drink in his hands: yeah. crazy.#pharma: anyways i'm gonna go perform a triple organ donation everyone fuck off i'm working#i think pharma never got political mainly because he comes off as the type who focuses on his job and nothing else#like he's experienced marginalization on account of being a forged medic JET but he kind of just went#well I overcame the odds and i'm the best doctor ever now and my position in society is comfortable that's all i wanted#but it's a far cry from fanon that decides to make him a full on card carrying functionist that's openly bigoted#i feel like i just repeated myself over and over again without saying much ah well

actually so evil how much of hal's internal world gets obliterated with the rewriting of his relationships with jessica and martin.
#hal jordan#empyrean posting#ok going in the tags because im not actually v confident in my understanding of his character. i read all of his 80s/90s stuff but forgot#90% of it but ANYWAY.#so much of him just does not make sense with how geoff johns characterises him and his relationships with his parents particularly the#parallax stuff simply because of how much his relationship with the guardians and their apathy/'betrayal' is influenced by hal's original#relationship with his dad. like at its heart it's pretty much the same dynamic in how hal blindly trusts and sort of idolises the guardians#despite their repeated infractions in hope of... something in return just as he had with his father and the abuse he suffered at martin's#hands. that's what makes his anger at the guardians make sense when it does show itself because the relationship parallel didn't stop there.#as with martin hal gets nothing for his devotion. he gets nothing for doing everything that's asked of him and more and it ends the same way#too: with a man in the sky burning like a newborn star. and you lose so much of that nuance and intrigue behind that if you just make#jessica the 'bad one' because!!! you cheapen it!!!!#the whole idea of hal is that he has his father's face but his mother's scars#(to me). in the sense that they both reacted to martin the same way with that cognisance of who he was as a man yet inability to pull away#because... love. both the love they had for him and the conviction that he did or could love them too. and jessica arguably did eventually#but also she didnt did she? because she held onto that notion of love till the very end. the few scraps she had she ballooned outwards until#they became the whole. but hal didnt have even that and he spent his whole life chasing it & running away from wanting it at the same time#like i think there's something so interesting to the fact that he had to be convinced that flying was what he wanted to do. how much of that#was touched by his father? the fear that he was already too much like him than he could bear to be? he already had his face now he had his#dreams and longing for the sky. how much more could he have before he began repeating the cycle?#and at the end he even had his father's death. burning in the clouds. like there's so much there and that's not even touching on how it#impacts his relationships with other heroes. not just in the sense of why did kyle clark and diana get to keep their close yet complex#relationships with their moms when hal had to lose his (although yeah why did they) but also just how he lets himself come across to them.#because it's on purpose right? that he lets them think his reflection of his father is born out of unadulterated love for a man worthy of it#? he has his father's job he wears his father's jacket he smiles his father's smile. what else are they supposed to think.#and isnt that interesting!!! that this man who is so committed to being good & just can lie so casually to people he thinks of as friends!!!#can you see how that might be his mother through and through!!! in how she might have glossed over the abuse to other people and herself!!!#can you see how in spite of it all he might want to be perceived as his father that paragon of masculinity and resent that he is not!!!#do you understand how everything he loves has been poisoned!!! im thinking of that scene where he tells bruce about watching martin die &#wouldnt it have been so much more interesting through this lens. how he is both revealing & obfuscating at once. i hate the change sm

i feel very frustrated about the trend of giving chil body hair bc if it was any other anime twink i would be thrilled its just that it seems to only be because people are SO afraid of him looking young they have to make him hairy to justify liking him in ships.
meanwhile it does directly go against canon (he literally is supposed to look like a child. this is integral to both his character and his race's lore as a whole and it makes no damn sense that he would be mistaken for a child if he has body hair i mean. cmon.)
and it's like. some men are hairless. some men look young. when youre a trans man in your 20s-30s its especially common to be mistaken for a teenager, even more so if you're not on t. and short. these traits do not make you less of a man or an adult. :/
#rot posts#listen its like. i just wish ppl werent doing it for the reasons they seem to be#you NEVER see tiny little men get body hair in fanart i should know ive been in multiple fandoms where i was the only 1 givin bitches hair#but it also sucks when its like. clearly from a place of discomfort and not wanting him to seem young#rather than actually loving body hair#for example where is laios with body hair. wheres kabru. mithrun. literally any other character#(senshi us a slight exception on account of semi canonically having hair)#it just feels like a performance for no one. ok yeah good job you made chil look like a hairy 30 year old#did you pay attention to how that totally disregards his story and how he canonically looks like a child and that IS an important aspect#half foots face infantilism to an extreme and his appearance is a part of this. the discrimination he faces is partially BECAUSE of looks!#so changing him to erase such a HUGE important aspect of his race's lore just bc ppl seem uncomfortable with him being young looking feels#idk the feeling. its frustrating to me#i just wish there was some self reflection here. i guess. some actual acknowledgement of his canon struggles#do you even like chil if you cant accept one of his core canonical traits...#whew anyways this is HUGELY a limited edition post bc im deleting it as soon as my husband reads it ❤️#i hate drama i hate discourse so like always if you try to start shit i will ignore + block you soo fast dont try me

A song came up on my shuffle that reminded me of Subject 16 and now I'm thinking about Clay Kaczmarek again.
I have played a LOT of Assassin's Creed and to this day, Clay is one of my all time favorite characters. I actually might like him even more than Desmond (don't kill me please). Everything about him is just so utterly tragic and I don't think the AC fandom (however tiny it is) appreciates him enough.
Like just think about this for a second and put yourself into his situation:
(TW for self harm and suicide. Honestly Clay should just be a TW in general)
Now for the sake of time, let's just breeze past the whole desperately searching for parental approval from someone who won't give it to you to the point that you give up on your dreams. Clay's childhood is lesser known since all of that is in The Lost Archive DLC, but regardless it's still pretty depressing.
So you're in college for something you don't want to do to appease a man that just makes you feel horrible. Then out of nowhere this guy comes up to you and says you can do something greater with your life, serve a good cause with bigger purpose. You join the Assassin Brotherhood and things are going good, great even! For once you're finally happy with your life.
But now you have to do the biggest, most important mission you've ever been sent on. You have to infiltrate the enemy in deep cover for an extended period of time. It will be fine. You've done infiltration missions before. There's already a mole planted. She will get you out. It will be fine. Lucy will get you out.
You allow yourself to be captured. Your kidnappers strap you into a machine that forces you to relive your ancestors memories for hours at a time. There will be long term effects. Your captors don't care. You aren't a person to them, just a number. Just 16. They put you back into the machine.
One day after being removed from the machine something feels off. Like you're not where you're supposed to be. You're supposed to be taller aren't you? Or are you supposed to be shorter? The buildings outside the window look wrong. It doesn't matter. You're out of the machine. You can finally be you instead of someone else, if not for just a little while.
But it gets worse.
Even outside of the machine you still aren't you. You experience memories that aren't yours even when you aren't strapped in. You can't remember the year. You catch yourself thinking its 1480 instead of 2012. You swear a horse almost ran you over but you're in a skyscraper forty stories up.
You're scared.
But it's okay. You have what you came for. Lucy will get you out.
Except she won't. She defected to the enemy side. No one knows to come for you. You're trapped, doomed to be forced into a machine that destroys your mind. You're alone with dead people who feel like they're you. But there is someone... something? A being calling herself Juno.
She might not be real.
She says the end of the world is coming.
She says you are going to die.
You believe her, when you're lucid enough to listen.
You are trapped. If not in the memories of someone else then in this infernal room. There's no point in fighting any more. You won't escape. You can't warn the brotherhood. But you could give whoever comes next a fighting chance. Lucy won't help Subject 17, but you can make sure they aren't alone like you. You can do it. You can stave off the bleeding effect and cling to your remaining sanity long enough to do this one thing. Juno says the world depends on it.
You code an AI of yourself into the machine, split it into encrypted glyphs for 17 to find. You aren't sure how coherent your messages are. Especially not the last ones. You barely remember your own name. It will be okay, though. All 17 has to do is unite the glyphs. You won't be here to help 17, exactly, but your digital memory will. Now you just need to make sure they know to look for them.
There isn't a quick way to do it. They want to keep you alive, even if they don't care about your wellbeing beyond that. You managed to steal a pen. The pen will have to do. Cutting your wrists with the ballpoint hurts, but it's a necessary sacrifice. You'll write your message on the walls and floors. Even after they clean it up 17 will be able to see it. 17 will have the eyes.
"She sees me... raise the knife..."
#everyone talks about Clay as just “oh yeah the one who wrote the message” and “oh that digital construct in Revelations”#i feel like no one has really sat down to think about how utterly terridying his time with Abstergo was#Deamond had a rough time with the bleeding effect but he also had a support system who limited his hours in the Animus#Clay lost his mind slowly terrifed and alone but still he pulled himself together enough to sacrifice himself for the greater good#If my post isn't enough to sway you to Clay side then just listen to his voice lines in the glyphs#watching him slowly loose it as you go on is heartbreaking (kudos to the voice actor he did a phenomenal job)#anyway#clay kaczmarek#subject 16#assassins creed#tw suicide#tw self harm

genuinely i think (one of) the biggest problems about the finale of fopanw is that nobody is willing to understand what dev is going through or gives him sympathy, and any sympathy that IS shown or anytime their thoughts are challenged, its undercut with jokes constantly. its so frustrating having the adults around him constantly being like yep you suck and if youre good its buried way deep i guess <3 as if he isnt like, a 10 year old being influence by an adult that is a criminal
its just so weird tonally because its like they want you to sympathize with dev and are absolutely aware hes a sad case, but still make jokes and put so much blame fully on him for his behavior as if every adult around him didnt fail him, INCLUDING peri
#also dont take this super seriously i dont hate this show in fact one of my fave eps was the time loop episode it was so good#this isnt even touching the surface regarding my thoughts but. yeah#and before peri defenders try to kill me i dont hate him i like him as a concept#but we can all agree he did a shit job right#and to give him credit dev is a hard kid and a hard first job at that but#half of the time he was hangin around his parents and constantly being shown love and affection and kinda just not talking to dev really#and the other half he complained about everything goin on as if he didnt have training for being a godparent?#but im sorry that comes with the job like more often than not#the kids are traumatized or goin through it theyre not going to just be nice lil guys#theyre like 10 usually. cmon#anyway yeah the finale was disappointing alas#i hope s2 has the same quality as the rest of the eps but esp the time loop episode <3#animation chitchat

#the really cool thing about art classes in college was that once i finished the actual work i could kind of just do whatever#so they had these sample images that were loaded onto every computer in the lab for art students#and one of them was a bear peeking from behind a tree#and one day i finished up the work and opened up that picture of a bear in photoshop#and i was like 'by god i will make this bear green'#and i did. the teacher hadnt really taught us that yet but through the power of internet tutorials and experimentation i did it#the professor comes over halfway through and looks over my shoulder 'what are you doing'#me: 'making a green bear'#him: 'did you do the work?'#me: 'yeah here' and i pulled it up#he was like 'oh cool. nice bear'#anyway sadly i do not have my green bear anymore#but man i was so proud of that#it was so good too no artifacting or anything i did such a good job on it#i mean i could recreate it probably but it wouldnt be the original

so anyway, got curious about the whole Zwayer having fixed matches before thing so I looked it up and
he was among a group of refs who brought another ref (robert hoyzer) fixing matches to light
he himself got a 6 month ban for not having informed the dfb about this earlier and allegedly taking 300€ from said ref to help fix a match in which he was linesman and hoyzer was the main ref
he claims that he never actually took money from him and just accepted the 6 month ban bc he didn't want a lengthy court process
this incident happened in 2005 so almost 20 years ago (he only started as a dfb ref in 2004)
the details, including the alleged match he himself helped fix only got out in 2014
bellingham brought it up in 2021 after zwayer did a pretty bad job in a game between dortmund and bayern, claiming that you couldn't be surprised if you gave a ref who'd fixed matches before the biggest match in germany, which resulted in zwayer getting death threats and bellingham having to pay a fine
so... y'know. idk if i'd have given zwayer this match, considering his conflict with bellingham, but then again, if he really never fixed any games, essentially punishing him for what bellingham said would suck. And while this is an extreme case, if you stop letting refs ref for players who've said bad things about them before, you're quickly gonna run out of refs
But yeah, when I read ppl saying ''he's fixed matches before'' i did expext smth worse and more recent than one alleged time as a young ref 20 years ago, especially when he ended up outing the ref who got him to do it that time (if it even happened), so i thought some other ppl might also like the context
#euros 2024#euro 2024#felix zwayer#i didn't do a shitton of research on this btw i just checked german wikipedia#but this is football and it's germany. german wikipedia is generally pretty accurate on football stuff#so yeah you can argue about how good or bad a job he did with this match#but i think it's pretty safe to say he isn't fixing any matches#anyway england won so bellingham really can't say shit now#(i do think it's entirely possible this shit made him overcorrect in england's favour a bit - even subconciously)#(i feel like a lot of the small decisions went in england's favour but also maybe i'm just biased bc i really wanted them out)

i know who the strongest on my blog is but it's mostly because of her voodoos + destruction powers that really tips her over the last few people
(its aelynn)
#she is almost the most physically strong on my blog and pretty much the most accustomed to combat#but even those she's physically weaker than. some of them she could take out with her voodoos#and the rest she could panic shatter if it really got bad enough#...looks at ringleader...#yeah actually i think even now she could beat him too because she could resist his voodoos for long enough because of being dead#wow dude good job making the one person that wants to kill you most capable of killing you#you did it. 30 years of work#his imperious malignancy would definitely be. the biggest struggle for her#she would have no choice but to shatter which could risk killing her as well since they backfire#but he's stronger faster and immune to voodoos so. oop.#there's others that would win against her in groups like duskguard because they're specialised for fighting undead#anyway. holds my stupid daughter to my face#the only other thing that holds her back is how fucking dumb she is <3
