As promised, welcome to

Fun biology in TOTK’s designs

I'll keep this post updated as I go through the game. I'm going to skip the more general identifiable things like apples (they're based on apples!) because there are tons of more unusual species to talk about.

Overall, the really interesting thing I've noticed is that many of the more unique Earth-based lifeforms in TOTK are super ancient, like predating dinosaurs ancient, which is a really cool tie-in to the overall time-hopping plotline of TOTK. Specifically, they're found in the new areas (caves, depths) while the surface remains a bit more normal.

(There will be no plot spoilers in this post, and also I've barely gotten into the plot because I'm spending all my time wandering, so shhh no spoilers in the tags for like a month please.)

Most recent additions: More lilies, irises, wild ginger, spiny bones, pigeon extravaganza, plus added some more real photo comparisons to old stuff.

PLANTS

Bryophytes my beloved. Bryophytes are among the earliest land plants, waaaay predating flowers and even seeds. In our world, they’re small by necessity—they lack vascular systems to help move water around like other plants, so they have to stay small and moist (hence their frequency in caves in TOTK—though they do need some light in real life.)

In TOTK they’re quite large and I think that’s very sexy and art directors should give us big bryophytes more often

Anyway, there are three types of bryophytes: mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. First image pair is a moss, second is a liverwort. Those red-brown and palm-tree-like structures, respectively, are their reproductive structures.

Not yet spotted: Hornworts! Did they forget the third bryophyte sister :(

I think these next guys are probably lycopods (specifically club moss, which is not a true bryophyte moss, thanks science.) Very old, but vascular, so they're a bit more evolutionarily recent than bryophytes.

All the enormous curly-topped trees in the depths: Ferns! They curl like that until they unfurl. Another very old plant, though younger than bryophytes and lycopods.

Brightblooms and some of the other giant plants in the depths: Possibly based on a cycad? Again, a very ancient plant lineage. At this point, evolutionarily, they've developed seeds—that giant cone in the center is called a strobilus, and that's the seed structure.

These next few plants are angiosperms, meaning they produce flowers. Angiosperms are a more recent evolutionary lineage—still many millions of years old, but it took a while to develop flowers as a reproductive tactic.

Sundelions (left) are a fun recolor of a lily. There are also some scenery lilies (right) in various places—there are yellow ones that spring up when you turn on a lightroot (which gives them literal and thematic connection to the surface) and several other varieties, including tiger lilies, throughout Hyrule. Fun note, the sundelions appear to only have 5 stamen, while other lilies in the game (correctly) have 6. Seems to be an intentional decision to make it a more distinct fantasy species.

These next ones are Peruvian lilies/Alstroemeria, just used as a scenery plant but a very fun inclusion. Fun fact, not true lilies, so they're not deadly to cats like true lilies are.

Plum trees: These are also called out as plum trees in game! There's a journal in Kakariko that refers to the plum orchards.

Okay I'm a little proud of figuring this one out. Bomb flowers blend a few botanical references. Superficially, the fruit resembles a type of seed pod called a capsule—specifically it's very similar to a poppy capsule. The little red thing in the center is a nice addition to resemble both a flower stigma (reproductive part that leads to the ovary) and a bomb fuse. Now, poppy capsules disperse their seeds via wind, but there are other plants who do explode their seeds outwards as a dispersal tactic! This is called explosive dehiscence.

There is one tree in particular called the sandbox tree, AKA monkey-no-climb or dynamite tree (yes, really.) Their capsules look more like little pumpkins, but are known for violently exploding when ripe—they can launch seeds at 150 miles per hour (250 km/h) and spread them roughly 200 feet (60 m) away. The photo comparison is a poppy capsule but you should def go look up dynamite tree videos.

Fire fruits (and the other elemental fruits) grow on the same generic plant that looks kind of like it has grape leaves. Fire fruits resemble a specific botanical thing too though—the black netting is a papery calyx (part of the flower) seen in a nightshade genus, Physalis (golden berries, tomatillos, etc.)

Not sure of the exact species but they're very green and heart-shaped and love being dense and low to the ground.

Irises: Love irises, one of my favorite flowers and words, very happy to see them in game.

MISCELLANEA

Cup lichen! Lichen is not a plant, but a symbiotic structure of an algae + a fungi. Cup lichen is just a type of lichen formation that has a kind of vertical cup-like structure.

Geology crossover! Go look carefully at some of the whiter walls in the depths—they look like they have fossils of coral and other undersea hard-structured animals in them.

ANIMALS

Sticky lizards: Based on Diplocaulus, a very early (now extinct) amphibian! Their skulls are wacky. We're not sure whether the long sides stood out separately or were smoothly connected to the body by skin flaps, but the separate arrow-like shape is the most popular rendition.

Deep firefly: Might be a stretch because it could just be a multi-winged fantasy critter, but I think the "wings" and antennae are very reminiscent of Anomalocaris, an ancient aquatic arthropod.

Update: Other folks in the notes/tags have pointed out that they're probably based on a cryptid that's especially popular in Japan: skyfish AKA rods! They show up in photos and people think they're an alien lifeform. In reality, they're an optical blur created when a lower quality video captures intermittent flaps of an insect's wings, leaving sort of a many-winged smear in the photo. Thanks to all who left info!

Little frox: Another stretch because it totally could just be a Hinox-like frog, but every time I see the little ones I can't help but think of like...Ichthyostega, Mastodonsaurus, Eryops, and other early amphibians. They were pretty hefty—little frox size or bigger—and had with little waddling legs. This is less "I think it's definitely this" and more "it makes me happy when I picture frox as primitive amphibians."

I haven't detailed many of the scenery animals around Hyrule because most are identifiable with the camera function—it'll tell you that a certain animal is a heron or porgy, for example, and those groups are real, even though the exact species is made up. But I think the pigeons are fun because they're all crested pigeons. Pink-necked green pigeons may have also been the inspiration for the color palettes on the wood and rainbow pigeons.

Spiny bones: Not a specific critter, but those spiny bones that you can find lying around Eldin Canyon are vertebrae—possibly from the same thing that left those big rib cages around? The top spike is the spinous process where muscles attach, the littler spikes on the side are the transverse and articular processes. The dark O in the center is the spinal cord.

Also I made a friend who finally recognizes my purpose in Hyrule.

i super incredibly appreciate every little interaction from big to small i've had with the tumblr ffxiv community through this blog. whether you just left a like or a reblog, sent in an ask, tagged me in a quiz or tag game or otherwise, or if we've actually become diehard tumblr mutuals that would kill for each other, it's all meant the world to me and i've been blown away by how much people seem to like ellie and mia and lily.

i didn't know what to expect when i started this sideblog (nearly a year ago wtf!!), but it's been by and large a ton of fun, and i've made a lot of legit actual friends that i am truly blessed to know and hang out with both ingame and out (you know who you are and i hope you know i love and support ya <3), and i know there are many more i would love to get to know in the new expansion. it's been a blast learning about and getting to know everyone's wols, and i'm excited for the possibility of more cool shit to do in the new expansion with all you cool folks.

and honestly being a part of all this has probably helped keep me sane as i try to handle all that irl shit, and i can't express enough how thankful i am for that.

Hi, I loved your Sting analysis and I 100% agree with all of it so allow me to send you my "how the Sting/Rogue Vs Natsu/Gajeel fight should have happened" propaganda, because I spend way too long thinking how to fix it and I love my version:

So basically, since Sabertooth was presented as the unchallenged 7 year running victors, strongest guild in Fiore and they are amongst the also seemingly unchallenged top 5 of that guild, I think they *need* to be shown to be stronger than Natsu to live up to the hype. (And the most annoying thing is that Mashima *can* write 'Natsu goes against a stronger opponent and win' satisfyingly, exhibit A: Laxus) Like come on, Natsu is a badass but he was never before shown to be an undefeatable super powerhouse, and Sting/Rogue are the current antagonist that got hyped up a lot, story wise they have to be stronger! If the twist is actually every other guild except FT is kinda weak and therefore so is Sabertooth that's a bad twist! And it's not even satisfying to watch!

But they still need to lose, so how? Imo the most satisfying would be: due to their own overconfidence, it's fun and it works with the themes too!

So the way I would write it, (first by forgetting the 'Gajeel and Natsu weren't starting full strength' BS, like since when??? This is FT, where no one ever holds back, not Dragon Ball) but I distress so:

Sting/Rogue are winning handily, throwing unison raid like candy so Sting decides to solo them, goes into Dragon Force and keep winning, even if not as easily and Natsu, who does tend to overestimate himself if it's not life and death, still goes all 'I don't need you Gajeel, I'm gonna win by myself' but he doesn't kick him out of the arena, because that was terrible, and Gajeel is staying around like 'fine go get your ass kicked, I'll laughs'

And 2v1 was hard enough, 1v1 Natsu is losing fast, only Gajeel isn't stupid and he wants to win so he had a plan: while Rogue was distracted and not paying attention to him, having kinda disregarded him as a threat, he jumps him and doesn't let him use Dragon Force, maybe Rogue is the one who get kicked down a mine shaft even.

And then Gajeel somehow creates an explosion to give fire to Natsu and rejoins the fight. Gajeel is still relatively fresh while Sting has just been burning through a ton of magic between Dragon Force and unnecessarily showing off and so Gajeel/Natsu show that they can in fact fight together decently and they win, preferably with an unexpected unison raid.

That way the fight is hard won and thus satisfying to watch, Sting/Rogue were defeated by their own hubris (and separately!) even though they actually were stronger, illustrating the whole 'the strength of friendship beat being personally strong and is more important' theme (AND it gives more weight and more anticipation for Rogue Vs Gajeel future fight, but that would be a whole other essay) AND *it's not the only duo showing the power of friendship who loses* because genuinely, I think Mashima might have forgotten who he was trying to make us root for? (Why give Sting the Power of Friendship tm AND an emotional motivational flashback and then make him lose like that???)

Anyways, so sorry this got incredibly long, but I don't want to erase it now that I wrote all that ^^' Please do ignore me if I was bothering you

Hi! I'm so glad you liked my Sting rant analysis! Also, uhm...Hell Yes to your version of the dragon slayer tag battle! It hits a couple of points that I think are very satisfying, and that would make a lot of sense.

- Sting and Rogue being defeated separately, and directly thanks to their own arrogance: The Twin Dragons have insane teamwork and amplify each other's strengths. Separating them should be step 1 towards defeating them. Plus, they've shown arrogance (Sting) and indifference (Rogue) from the beginning. Having those attitudes be their downfall would fit very nicely into their humbling and later character improvement. And the scenario you posed works really well: Sting showing off and blowing through his MP, and Rogue letting his guard down when he lost interest. Mistakes neither of them care to make again on the last day (especially after the beating from their master). Sting now saves up all his strength for the final confrontation, while Rogue focuses on settling his score with Gajeel.

- Natsu and Gajeel teamwork: These two are rivals who never had the friendliest dynamic, so showing them put all that aside and win this battle for FT? If that ain't power of friendship, I don't know what is.

- Rogue getting kicked down the mineshaft....Now that would be very interesting considering what he'd find there. He and Gajeel wouldn't be able to really finish their fight so it would absolutely up the anticipation for their second encounter on the final day. Still trying to figure out what it would mean for the stuff with Zirconis, but I'm very intrigued by the idea.

none of my fics *really* have angsty endings, but at the end of 'put your strength down' max just falls asleep after, like, having a horrible time. so that's not a great ending for him, even though he's eventually fine.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

i mean, i really hope my x-men/f1 wip gets finished. it's been a long journey with that fic and i really love the plot that i know exists in there. but i'm not SURE i'll finish it. there's a cherik a/b/o fic that i know will never see daylight for sure. unless i finish that crossover, i think almost all my cherik stuff is dead on the vine. (for now.)

not ever gonna happen. i hate looking dumb. writing erik lehnsherr was always fun bc he's jewish, so i do let his mom speak a bit of yiddish, because i speak a bit of yiddish. otherwise, i just denote that a character's not speaking in english and then go on with the dialogue.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

uhhh, i mean, the first fics i EVER wrote were probably about the jonas brothers when i was like, 8. but the first fics i ever POSTED were probably one direction when i was like, 16 or so. could've also been x-men bc i posted my first fic in that fandom around the same time. anyway, all been orphaned now, so good luck charlie if you're tryna find em.

oh man, i don't think any? i haven't written any in-depth maxiel and i really want to, but i do have, like, 3 maxiel fics on my ao3. but yeah, i'm excited to like actually really delve into them. i love them.

i think the *best* fic i've written is probably 'the pain will remind us of each other.' it's just a different kind of writing and i think it's, like, pretty well pulled off, and it's just clean and straightforward and gets the emotions where i wanted them to go. there's some of my favorite lines i've ever written in there. charles in erik's mind, erik saying "where have you been?" was a really cool visual that i was happy i got to put on paper.

i also really love never strangers at all. it's undoubtedly the best f1 fic i've written. but i'm also, like, rapidly improving my writing these past few months and i'm already a bit critical of it. anyway, i still do think charles & max's relationship is lovely, and i'm proud of how i stuck to my guns in terms of what i wanted their dynamic to be, even if it's different from how a lot of people perceive them.

He needs someone to really balance him from his usual chaotic and impulsive personality. At times, he doesn't really think things through, only when you least expect it. His unpredictable nature makes it hard to really follow him and yet, you have him wrapped around your finger.

During his hamon training, you're by the sidelines as Lisa Lisa puts both Joseph and Ceasar into strenuous work while you were more so quizzed on the matter. You weren't really one to excel in the physical aspect of hamon but you were happy enough to cheer for your friends.

In all honesty, he comes to appreciate your minimal enthusiasm and effort to support him. He teases you about it

Behind closed doors, he's willing be quiet as well, once he's done yapping your ear off you've noticed that he'd tired himself off and just lay across your lap.

Your bored eyes stared into his chiseled physique, his boyish smile and his green eyes stared back. It was hard not to laugh, it was like having a staring contest with him and its always him that cracks up first while you sit there with a dazed smile.

"Wipe that look off your face or I'll kiss you." He threatened, well he said it like it was a threat but honestly you weren't one to complain. You still had your arms crossed, the corners of your lips just barely curving up.

"You should go back to your training, hercules." You commented, out of the corner of your eye you could feel Caesar and Lisa Lisa's eyes burning holes to the back of Joseph's head.

"Hmm... Should I? Where's the fun in doing all that when you're not there?" He asked with a tilted head. "I work hard, y'know? These bad boys are going owhere and I don't have a babe by my side to appreciate them." He flexed his arms, prompting for you to snort as you cover your mouth. You weren't one to really match the same energy with whoever you talked with, including your boyfriend Joseph and yet that never seemed to stop him from his attempts to make you smile at least. "Fine, but don't expect me to put on some kind of show for you." You hummed, following the tall man with your arms behind your back.

As long as you drown him with compliments and praises here and there, he could care less for your lack of enthusiasm. No matter how much he may tease you for being "super flat", your opinions and values mean a lot to him.

He tends to like the quiet and unamused ones anyways, something about these individuals are so mysterious and he likes the chase.

he wasn't expecting to be a father when he was young

like being a father was the last thing on his mind

but after everything chaotic in his life, he finally decided to settle down and found the perfect partner, you!

only then was he fully prepared to become a father

you talked about it a lot and told Cloud that he would be a wonderful father

he thought you would be a wonderful mother, so after a while, you found that you were going to have a child! (or if you prefer to adopt, that would be super cute for the two of you)

at first, raising a child was very difficult

it didn't matter that Cloud had nearly fought god in his lifetime, raising a child had to be one of the most challenging things he ever faced

this also made him a little self concious

he was helping, but saw you doing a lot of the work

^ he would always step in though to help, no hesitation

his favorite thing was teaching his child how to grow into a lovely human

lots of playing and just being a kid, which neither you nor Cloud really had, so it meant a lot to be having that with a child of your own

lots of family adventures and traveling

for the first time in a long time, a smile hasn't left Cloud's face <3

NOCTIS

he would be TERRIFIED

he would be prepped, but terrified

you two talked about having a child, but even after talks, it was still scary

and you were a more natural mother, ready to help the child at any cost and already knew what to do

he just felt like some idiot in the back watching you

lets just say he spoiled you a little more than the baby because he felt bad for everything you had to do

he would still be a fun dad though

and the baby would have all their uncle chocobros to hang around

ignis teaches Noctis how to make food for the baby and through trial and error, he actually makes some pretty damn good food for the lil thing!

but having friends around makes raising the baby more fun, especially because you can trust them when you're too tired some days

Noctis though would love napping with the baby

^ you would walk into the kitchen to tell him that dinner's ready and find him napping with the baby on his chest and you definitely tear up and take TONS of pictures

he would be ecstatic, but he was more of a scared dad at first lol

he knew a baby would come eventually with him being king and all later, but he didn't know it would be such a hard thing

he's just thankful to you and his friends for being patient and helping out <3

The Dream

Now that the evening reblogs are out of the way, I promised @citylighten a little bit of a deep dive into Hope's Dream, why I triggered it, why I was apprehensive about it (sprinkled with a little writer's insecurity) and what I was hoping to accomplish;

I posted the reminder to filter your tags last night because I would be depicted a deceased body which of course is a trigger (fun fact: the reason there was never any blood is because it was already emotionally charged and sometimes that's worse than blood and gore, plus blood nauseates me). We are literally still in the first day home after a two week hospital stay and Hope is coming back into a very harsh reality. What I am attempting to do is unroll that reality as realistically as I think I can.

Don't mean to get mushy on main, but I was apprehensive about that post. Insecure about it even. My reasoning is, its not an easy subject to tackle and when you're writing something visual it has even more of an impact. Honestly, sometimes I think I take things too far. But the way my brain works, it *had* to be a nightmare and it *had* to be vivid. So the apprehension was like "Damn Cin, maybe that was *too* much". But I posted anyway because I believed in it. Believe it or not, that post came together over the course of the night last night with a ton of ice water, some turkey jerkey and a dope ass playlist... I digress

I figured that the wedding attire and location may throw people off and it did. The preset I used was super white with a dark sky (silent hill preset). It had to look like a dream. White symbolizes innocence and purity in western society. Hope's subconscious mind was showing her what Elliot wanted. Them to be married. It should have been him. They have the history. In the dream he's squeezing her hand, he's afraid. He's quite literally dead. He asks what happened as if he doesn't understand. So she's stuck with telling him, in all white, walking down the aisle. And then the next thing we know he's limp on the ground. Another angle is Hope's subconscious mind showing her what would have saved him; them staying together and marrying.

So this is super long already but I wanted to at least give some background as to where I was going there. I understand that some have had to back away from the story for awhile and I support that wholeheartedly (folks unfollowed and blocked me when Darren was abusive toward Indya, even more did after she married him because to some, abusers can't change). Up until last week it was a beautiful story of a beautiful romance, a beautiful wedding and a beautiful honeymoon and then the whiplash upon return was a lot to handle.

I get it.

How do you feel abut C-Drama? It's a bit of a tough start as it plays with established wuxia / xianxia tropes & worldbuilding, but The Untamed absolutely owns my heart and certainly isn't short on whump goodness. I mean, it starts with a bleeding, crying guy falling off a cliff (classic!) and "Good news, the fearsome [protagonist] has died! Rejoice!" What's not to love?

The CGI is alright to awful, the costumes are on point, and at least SOME characters will live in your heart and head rent-free. It's a movie mixing a lot of vibes: Murder mystery, horror, comedy, and (censorship-skirting) gay romance. There's quests and secret forbidden techniques, zombies, war, a ton of scheming, badassery / cleverness, and plenty of examples how society creates/destroys/divides heroes and villains, authority figures and outcasts in ways that may have little to do with a person's actual actions or motives... And in terms of whump? Okay, here's a non plot-relevant example: One of my favourite scenes in ep 10 is Wei Wuxian getting choked with a summoned/animated chain. That had me go "oh shit" and "oh yes" (and oh myyy) - and the reveal/payoff as well as the rescue make it even better - but in the long run barely even makes the list of Our Lad Is Goin Thru It.

You know some kind of media where you're fully aware of its flaws, but you love it to bits anyway, because the things it does well it does SO DAMN WELL? (I'm not going into the original novel here, which is awesome in its own right, but maybe not the best first choice for you in particular). The first 2 episodes are confusing a f, but stick with it and you're in for an experience. If you don't mind spoilers, feel free to browse my The Untamed or Wei Wuxian tags.

been working on mods, release date unknown, there's so many mods we wanna work on and sometimes we change things up, but one that's coming soon(ish) is johnny's alt jacket.

I've also made a new au called low frequency. It's a au set in the prehistoric Mesozoic era! dinosaaaaaaaaaurs baby.

I have been making photos and have upcoming photostories planned for this au and I'm super excited about it!

Pose WIPS

Mainly for me, I've been doing shippy poses, focused on hamds (uwu), and I made a lil photoset showcasing those poses, they are still a little messy. I've been deep into pose making lately, and I've been doing tons of fem and masc poses as well, and I have millions of pose packs I wanna release and haven't even started working on one pack yet xD just need to fix them up to start properly making them, but that's a slow process, we'll get there.

I've been working on re-vamping Maggie. I am in the process of making her look more like I imagined a long time ago when I created her. She's my pride and joy just like Vaughn and I love her dearly and want to give her everything in the world hehe. I gave her some tattoos, and they aren't quite definitive yet, I'm still searching but I know I want her with a lot. haha, and I also started putting more cyberware stuffs on her, she's coming out so nicely.

(Sending this as an ask bcs it got too long for the replies) but re: your post, I actually had a breakdown recently because of the massive toll it's taking on my mental health to Pay Attention to current events when I'm already dealing with so much in my own life that there really isn't a whole lot more I can do to help anyone, and it really does infuriate me that people have twisted the concept of privilege to suggest that anyone who isn't living in a war zone has the obligation to destroy their mental and physical health by paying non-stop attention to all the atrocities of the world.

Post-breakdown I decided that destroying myself wasn't helping anyone, and it's okay for me to focus on myself and my needs. It's still really hard, and I have a lot of trouble shaking the internalized message that me blocking tags and ignoring the news doesn't make me a horrible person, plus I'm unfortunately so hyper-empathetic that it's painful to even know that people are suffering in the world, but again we're all suffering right now. Almost no one is living in ideal conditions, and I have to believe that people who are living in worse conditions than I don't want me to end up bed ridden with depression and anxiety worrying over them, because I wouldn't want anyone to do that for me, either.

Anyway, this isn't super coherent, and I'm sorry if it comes across as trauma dumping or anything, but I just wanted to say that I agree, it's really messed up that the culture of activism has twisted to the point that being happy or even just not miserable when other people have it worse is so normalized. I hate seeing people lash out cruely at people in an attempt to get help or more eyes on an issue. It's like the old "there are children in Africa starving so finish your dinner even if you hate it" or "how dare you complain about how you're being treated, other people have it worse" mentality turned up to 100 billion and tbh it doesn't do anyone any good and it certainly doesn't make the world a better place.

Needing to take time away isn't selfish. You don't have to suffer to make up for the fact that you happen to not live in a worse place. You are not obligated to destroy yourself as penance. And destroying yourself is not activism nor is it a healthy expression of compassion or empathy. I know it's not a choice sometimes, our emotions are not logical, but I just wanted you to know that there are people out there who know there is nothing wrong with you taking a step back to focus on yourself. The fight isn't over because you looked away, there are tons of other people still carrying the torch, and I truly don't think people who are suffering want MORE people to suffer needlessly on their behalf.

I hope you're able to take a break soon, and that you find a way to balance things. And I hope the things you're dealing with in your own life ease up soon as well. Take care of yourself.

Going Trick or Treating with Ted Logan would include~

(This is super late but it was in my drafts and finished so here~)

- Ted spent a lot of his childhood being “the older brother” so even though Halloween is arguably his favorite holiday, he’s very lax about how he wants to spend it. He’s down for whatever you want to do and sort of just tags along; happy to be there and spending time with you. 

- Don’t expect a ton of input when you ask what he wants to be/dress up as. You’ll get a very excited and adamant “for sure” when you question him on whether or not he wants to dress up; and probably if he wants to be in a couples costume with you, but he’ll always respond with an enthusiastic “I don’t know” whenever you ask for any specifics. 

- So yeah, it’s more or less your decision to make. You probably choose to be something like a Rockstar and his girlfriend; since it’s a fairly fitting costume all thing considered, but if you’re more of a “this is my one chance a year to dress like an idiot” kind of person, he’ll gladly wear one of those silly foam outfits as well. 

- Whatever you guys choose; he’s not embarrassed in the slightest. It’s Halloween, you’re supposed to dress up and look silly. And what’s silly anyways? He’s having fun so who cares.

- But, speaking of costumes: he has absolutely zero focus while browsing the aisles of the Halloween store. He’s bouncing from image to image and getting distracted from/forgetting about the ones he’s already considering because he’s immediately focused on another one. You’ll probably not even wind up buying any of them either, you’ll go home empty handed and just choose something from your closet at the very last minute. 

- I don’t think Ted is capable of getting embarrassed: like he legitimately can’t feel shame; at least 90% of the time. He’d happily go trick or treating with you and wouldn’t even bat an eye at the prospect of people your age seeing and making fun of you. He’s simply here to have a good time, and honestly? Good for him. 

 - As much as he loves trick or treating, he loves sitting on the curb and talking with you even more. The longer the night drags on and the more you decide to “stop for a second” the better; especially when you shiver and he gets to scoot in extra close to “keep you warm”. 

- He’s constantly touching: holding your hand, leaning on you, hugging you from behind, rubbing his hands on your arms to warm you up, etc. He’s affectionate and considerate, thank you very much. 

- He insists on carrying your candy when he see’s that you’re struggling; even if you insist that you’re fine. How he manages to carry both your bags, along with you on his back a majority of the time, never ceases to confuse and amaze you.

- On that note: piggyback rides; especially if you were dumb and decided to wear uncomfortable shoes.  

- The two of you probably cross paths with his brother during the night and the two of them have a stand off in the middle of the street. He almost runs after and tackles him when he makes a comment about how good you look. 

- If he was wearing a big latex mask or let you put makeup on him, you’d have to lift it up to kiss him or would wind up with lipstick/face paint all over your face from him kissing you everywhere. I don’t know, it’s just a cute thought. 

- He wreaks havoc on his bag of candy. He leaves the night with half of what he collected because of just how much he snacks on his stash. How he doesn’t throw up before morning is genuinely beyond you. 

- He would be conflicted but he’d wind up giving you the last/only piece of candy that he has that the two of you mutually love. Like if you had one snickers bar in both your bags combined, he’d really want to have it but he’d know that it’s your favorite so he’d drop it into your bag instead. 

- Speaking of: he knows what you love and hate so he swaps stuff out without even saying anything, or grabs something to eat from your pile without asking because he knows you’re gonna give them to him by the end of the night anyway. 

- Bill would probably tease the two of you for going out and trick or treating but he’d definitely feel a bit conflicted about whether or not he should have gone afterwards. 

- By the end of the night you’re an itchy costume, makeup covered pile of limbs and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

jack in the boxes, despite their sometimes cutesy appearance, are in fact very aggressive carnivores. these objects live in dense forests with a lot of leaf cover and don't create dens or nests, they kind of just sleep wherever is safest when they're tired. they have very sharp teeth and claws for hunting, which they do a LOT. they have a fast metabolism and must keep up by eating a ton. their primary food sources are mice, rats, voles, shrews, small birds, and similar creatures, but they've been known to also attack much larger ones and win. if there are jack in the boxes in your area, i would NOT let my pets free roam outside (not that they should ever be free roaming anyway). they hunt by getting as close to their prey as possible and opening their lids, shooting out a specialized feeding organ that is covered in spines and sticky secretions, and pull their prey in whole if possible. this specialized organ, typically referred to as a radula, has a similar shape to a gingerbread man, and can have different color patterns as well as vary in size.

these objects are very selective over mates, with both males and females being picky over their partners in the wild. they typically choose individuals with the longest and largest radula, as this aids in ability to provide food for young. color patterns seem to play no part in mate selection. mothers are extremely protective of their babies, who will reach maturity at around four months, after which they'll leave on their own. litters will typically have three babies at most, with two being most common.

while this species is domesticated, their aggression towards most creatures (sometimes including humans) makes them a rare choice for object owners. they're usually only kept by professionals for educational purposes, such as bringing them to schools to teach the public. if you find one in the wild that may be an escaped pet, you should call animal control or a wildlife rehabilitator rather than attempt to bring it to a vet yourself. you can never be too careful with these things.
