#full disclosure in case this blows up somehow because of booktok or something - IT'S NOT JUST BOOKTOK CRITICISM OR HET ROMANCE CRITICISM#this is me getting annoyed about the fact that the genre itself is oversaturated with too many of the same cookie cutter plot#girl in magic land meets guy and they hate each other but they don't really!!! but their love grows over the tides of the kingdom's war.....#<- THIS PLOT RIGHT HERE. I'VE SEEN FIVE SEPARATE AUTHORS DO THIS#and again - to clarify - it is NOT just booktok with this oversaturation issue#regular fiction is oversaturated with WW2/victorian era romance dramas - where the plot is good! but then A GUY SHOWS UP#AND THE WOMAN MUST MAKE A CHOICE..... TO SUPPORT HER CHILD OR LEAVE BEHIND HER OLD LIFE etc etc WE GET IT. FUCK.#and it's not just fiction too!!! the charts are oversaturated with crime novels in general right now#granted - most of them are good and try to be original - however there's just too many in the main chart#i won't list all of them to prevent drama - but in two past 'six new chart topper' deals - four were crime#and they haven't sold well. even bringing in popular authors didn't help them sell well#there needs to be a shake up. i don't want to be elitish or snobbish - PEOPLE CAN 100% WRITE WHAT THEY WANT#everyone's art is unique and beautiful because they did it#and they have the freedom to do so#but writers nowadays are falling too much into keeping with trends that it's actively tiring out consistent readers#write your fantasy novel - but lean into the worldbuilding. write your world war novel - but elaborate outside the characters.#write your fiction or crime - but try to vary up the beats of the plot to surprise readers more#stop trying to cater to what you l they want and what works - try and surprise them with something new and unexpected.#anyways rant over. i can talk about this for ages but i won't. but i could#spark talks about nothing of relevance#clip from the shadow the hedgehog rtfd 👍 thank you devil. from bible.

Can't believe they named the character with the most daddy issues Issac, like the boy who just wanted to be helpful and was let down or abandoned by literally everyone down to his disappearance from the show being left alone in France with nothing paralelled with the biblical story of an obedient son being brought up to the mountains to be slaughtered amongst the rest of the sheep without a second thought from his father
#fable rambles#teen wolf#issac lahey#no actually all the shit with his dad then he finally thinks he has people to be on his side/the power to defend himself against his abuser#then he gets detained for the murder he didnt commit gets out finally has scott and the pack stop being weird to him gets kicked out of#derecks apartment in the pouring rain in the middle of the night#falls in love with allison has scott throw him against the wall several times even though he knows he was physically abused his whole life#another detour but the scene where he asks scott if he hates him like four times and tells him he should hit him is actually so fucking sad#hes offering himself up to be hurt because he thinks it will make scott feel better and be less mad at him i dont really blame scott because#hes dumb but thats just so telling of things like its legit sad#but anyways then allison dies and uses her last breath to say how shell always love scott even though he is her boyfriend and is laying two#feet away because he got stabbed#then he gkes to france with her father and he fucking leaves him there WHAY THE FUCK#he has no parents he probably aint got citizenship#maybe argent had a second house he could live in but even then you cannot just dump this kid in france then leave because scott needs you#this probably comes off as scott hating#i dont hate scott ik hes literally the main character and i do like him its just annoying

Made an impulse purchase last night of a book series beloved from my childhood
I went through the author's website to purchase directly so I could get the box set and there was an option to get a signature for free and I was like "well....why not"
So a book set signed by the author is headed my way and I am QUITE excited
#this series actually is republished#the last two books were way bigger than the first two#(and CRAZY difficult to find. the fourth had a limited printing for some reason)#so the series was recently republished into seven books instead of four#and I'm PSYCHED to get my hands on them!#esp with the fact I couldn't buy the fourth one anywhere#I already know where it'll go on my shelf#anyways the author is such a great writer and guy and I LOVE his work#(there is a sneaky hint in the post as to what the series is#but it's so sneaky that I think one would have to read the series to figure it out)#(here's a hint for the hint: the name of the main villain of the series is in the post)#speecher speaks

#i know ive said it like 3 times now but i wish there was fic for this book#the characters are great and i like the writing style#there are a lot of things left unexplored that i would like to read about#i just think theres potential but its an oldish book and there arent many fics (i checked ao3 ff.net and even ff.de)#and none of them are about the main four friends and their relationships to each other#like they all become better people by the end (well audrey doesnt change much) and i would love to see them talk about it all and stuff#i want to know how marv deals with everything and how his life changes after thr end of the book#anyway i cant write it myself but i also cant just go on to the next book so im sort of caught in this weird in between place#big sigh#mine#i am the messenger
