Trying to be like that autistic girl on TikTok who just goes from ranting about the insidious yet stupid nature of Bloom’s advertising techniques to her Hayffie headcanons in like a week and her audience listens to both-

omg rommates and mutual pining??!!? yeah this has to be your best edwinajosie plot I’m crying 😭
Oh the awkward tension of Edwina hating herself because she feels wildly jealous of this new relationship Josie’s starting, and… what’s she supposed to say anyway?
Josie, I get that I’m not serious about fucking anything in my life but I’m serious about you?
What if Josie laughs at her? Or possibly worse than that the gentle Edwina I… don’t feel the same way, I’m sorry. Or worst of all, when Josie would inevitably move out. And if Edwina’s honest, she’s a little not used to… not getting the people she wanted. She’s a pretty girl and she doesn’t have to work this hard usually, she flashes them a smile and a chuckle and they fall into bed with her. So she doesn’t know how to navigate this space at all.
And Josie hating herself because she’s definitely leading Jess on, who’s already asking kind of pointed questions about Edwina but… nothing’s ever going to happen with Edwina. Despite the weird tension that was in the air when they’d been watching that movie, and Edwina had been curled close to her, wearing her maths camp shirt, and suddenly the scene in the screen had turned… warm. And their eyes caught embarrassedly together and there’d been… a moment. A moment where one of them could have made a move, where it felt like Edwina had been about to lean forward, and press her against the arm of the sofa. But instead she’d cleared her throat shaken her head and said-
“Fucking in a garden just seems like a recipe for a rash.”
Josie had rolled her eyes though her cheeks had been burning, “oh like you’ve never done it?”
“Er how do you think I know you’ll get a rash?! Her name was Emily, and I stole her away into the garden when I was eighteen from My gran’s Deepavali celebration.”
“You’re ridiculous.” Josie rolled her eyes, though something sparked in her chest. Ridiculous jealousy for a girl who didn’t even know she existed.
“Hey she had a good time! I’m a very generous top And she realised she liked girls quite a bit after that!” Edwina preened a little, “She and her wife are having a baby, according to my Mum who found us and dragged me back inside by the ear, annoyed that I got a grass stain on my lehenga. The bi-ness she wasn’t surprised by at all.”
“I’m gonna turn in.” Josie said quickly, standing from the couch, ignoring the look that crossed Edwina’s face, surprise and something almost hurt there.
“Yeah, cool.”
Nothing was ever going to happen. And it just… it was getting more and more difficult. Edwina withdrew completely, they didn’t eat dinner together anymore, they didn’t hang out with Kate and Anthony, in fact Kate usually disappeared into Edwina’s room while Anthony gave her a sympathetic smile and a clap on the shoulder.
And eventually Josie can’t take it anymore. After she and Jess have had a fight because once again Edwina had been raised as a topic, Josie’s ears still ringing with it on the way home. I just want you to consider me the same way you consider her! Are you not going to say anything Josie?! Okay, this is done!
She just wants to get home, sit on the sofa and cry, honestly. But Edwina’s there, her eyes slipping over Josie quickly before she snips-
“No Jess tonight? Sad.”
And Josie’s had enough, “What is your fucking problem?! You’ve been like this for months?! You won’t talk to me, you don’t look at me, we aren’t even fucking friends anymore, Eddie and I don’t know what the fuck I did to you but-!”
And before she knows what’s happened, Edwina’s hands have closed around the front of her dress, and her lips are burning against hers.
