For the Strictly AU, I'm thinking Kate isn't the only one in her family to get into dancing professionally and get hired by the show.
As a toddler Edwina had always fidgeted in Mary's lap as they watched Kate's ballroom classes, desperate to wriggle out of her mother's grasp and join her big sister and the rest of the class in learning how to waltz. Whenever Kate practiced at home Edwina would insist on dancing with her and she'd eagerly call their parents to come and watch them dance. Naturally as soon as she was capable enough she joined the ballroom classes, her interest never waning in the slightest and her love of dance only building lesson by lesson. The older she got, the more she wanted to follow in her sister's footsteps and compete nationally, wishing to emulate Kate when she watched her win her first championship at the Blackpool Tower ballroom. She would go on to achieve the very same title as her sister four years later, as well as secure other championships all across Europe, before being cast in a live dance show that toured the world. And then she was presented with an offer she had been dying to receive ever since Kate had got the gig - a role as a professional dancer on Strictly. From the casting producer's perspective it was a no-brainer of who to replace Kate as she took maternity leave, and of course Edwina ecstatically accepted with her sister's blessing.
She was slightly apprehensive of who her celebrity partner might be, worried that as a newcomer she might have to pay her dues by pairing up with a rhythmically-challenged contestant before she got the chance to perform with someone even half-decent. However she was pleasantly relieved when she was paired up with wildlife cameraman and presenter Matty Bagwell. On the initial day where the professionals had met the contestants, Matty had been very shy and apprehensive to even be taking part in the series, but Edwina had observed that despite his modesty there was definitely potential to work with simply in the natural way he moved in time to the music and how he was far lighter on his feet than he gave himself credit for.
As rehearsals started, Edwina was massively impressed by just how natural a ballroom dancer he was, barely needing any coaching in perfecting his posture and having a seamlessly perfect top line. She was pleased as punch when the judges sang their praises in the very first week and though she wanted to keep the momentum going, Matty struggled with their next couple of dances, feeling self-conscious and down on himself and expressing how bad he felt for letting her down. Edwina assured him that he could never disappoint her and encouraged him not to hang on to the previous week's dance, and instead start afresh with their next routine, telling him that she truly had utter faith that he had the potential to go very far in the competition, if only he believed in himself as much as she believed in him. With her words motivating him, Matty put his all into rehearsals for the next week and the efforts paid off massively as they topped the leaderboard the following Saturday with the highest score of the series thus far with this routine;
youtube
Edwina was positively over the moon that her dance partner was letting go of his inhibitions and embracing the joy of dance, and he only continued to excel in every routine they did as the series progressed. She couldn't be prouder of him week after week, and she was always so incredibly touched with how much he expressed his gratitude to her and credited her for her wonderfully thought out choreography and the patience and grace she provided him with as his teacher. As the competition wore on, their bond deepened and Edwina took great pleasure in being in his company within the confines of the show and out of it.
"Ooh, Matty took me bird-watching the other day and get this; we saw a kingfisher!" she regaled her pregnant sister when she joined Kate and Anthony for dinner. "Honestly photos don't do it justice in just how vibrant the colours of their feathers are, and Matty said I was so lucky to see one on my first time on the lookout for them!"
"Oh wow! Did you get a photo?" Kate conversed.
"I didn't, no, and there's no way in hell I'd ever manage to take a snap of it even if I tried, but Matty had his camera on him and managed to take a bunch! It's so funny, he even zoomed out and got a photo of me pointing at it with the dopiest look on my face!"
"So was that for your VT this week?" Anthony asked.
"No, not at all. Matty asked if I wanted to go bird-watching with him and I thought, why not? There's a first time for everything, and who better to go with than a wildlife expert? And I'm so glad I did - oh, I didn't mention we saw a water vole too! Matty said they're on the decline which is so sad because they're so cute,"
Edwina continued wittering away, oblivious to the conspiring looks her sister and brother-in-law shared with one another as they ate their dinner - and notably, Edwina had barely touched her plate due to her non-stop chatter about her day out with Matty.
"Oh, and did you know Matty's not short for Matthew? It's short for Mathius!" she brightly mentioned later on in the evening after she and Kate had retired to the sofa.
"Fascinating, but Eddie; can I ask you something?"
"Sure?"
"This day out bird-watching with Matty... was it a date?" Kate asked carefully with a gentle raise of her eyebrow.
Edwina's mouth hovered open in surprise, not having anticipated her sister's out-of-nowhere line of questioning.
"W-what? No. No. No, Matty and I are just friends."
"Oh. Okay." Kate shrugged.
"But why? Why would you think it was a date?"
Kate smiled at her sister softly and reached over to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Edwina's ear. "You've talked about him all night long, Bon. And I know it's only natural seeing as he's the main person in your life at the moment while the series is running, but I can't help but sense that there's some affection for him." Kate explained. "I don't think I've ever heard you talk about anyone at length the way you've spoken about him. In fact, you seem brighter than ever before since you've been partnered with him."
Edwina was stunned to say the least with her sister's impression of how she supposedly felt towards Matty, though she couldn't deny the strange stuttering in her heart as she processed Kate's assessment of her relationship with her celebrity partner.
"It... it's probably just the high of doing so well on my first series. Why I'm brighter then ever before, like you said." she managed to respond (even if her voice was admittedly feeble-sounding).
"Sure." Kate nodded with a knowing sisterly look before she changed the subject by showing her a bunch of stuff she had recently ordered for the nursery.
However Kate's words stayed with Edwina, weighing heavily on her mind, especially when Matty showed up to the training studio with a bouquet of flowers and a box of Lindor chocolates to thank her for getting him to the halfway point of the competition. For the rest of the week, every time she indulged in the chocolates or stared at the bright orange flowers, Kate's words replayed over and over again as Edwina timidly examined her own feelings towards her partner.
She had liked Matty from the off and she enjoyed getting to know him, gradually peeling back the layers to learn more and more about him. She was utterly captivated by him every time he talked about his passion for wildlife and admired him whole-heartedly for how enthusiastic he was about his chosen career path. She knew without a doubt that she'd do anything to maintain their friendship even after the end of the series - but could she see herself wanting even more than that?
Matty wasn't like anyone she had ever met before. All the people she had primarily dated were fellow dancers, all of them playful and possessing confidence in spades, though the confidence often easily crossed over into arrogance and the competitiveness that came with the territory was insane at the best of times. Anyone else she had dated outside of the dancing world had been perfectly fine, though they always lacked the spark she expected she should feel for someone romantically.
Matty was different. He was shy and retiring, pleasant and laid-back, incredibly knowledgeable and insightful, sweet and soft-spoken, kind and thoughtful. He always vocalised his appreciation for her as a teacher and as a friend, he hung on her every word whenever she was explaining a dance technique or telling him all about the latest episode of Vanderpump Rules, and he gave her the warmest hugs every time they greeted and every time they parted ways. He was a one of kind, he fascinated her endlessly, and she had even gotten into watching nature documentaries just so she could better understand his innate love for wildlife and discuss it with him.
But did that amount to romantic feelings for him? Was Kate on to something? Or was the intense working proximity between them simply making her feel confused about her feelings towards him?
Edwina remained in her inexperienced limbo of denial for the next several weeks, doing everything she could to maintain a purely platonic working relationship with Matty - though it was difficult to implement such a thing when being in his company brought her so much joy and comfort. It became a little easier to ignore her bubbling feelings as they sailed through to the finale, and the intense training schedule provided enough distraction for her to not deal with the deepening affection she held for him.
Much to their shared jubilation, they were named the winners of the series, with Matty dedicating his winner's speech entirely to her. It did nothing to quell her feelings for him; feelings which she could now admit were romantic, if only to herself.
After a raucous after-party to celebrate their victory, Edwina woke up at three in the afternoon the next day. She pottered about her flat as she coped with her hangover, lounging on the sofa until there was a knock at the door. When she opened it she found Matty laden with takeout; a takeout she only just remembered they had agreed to prior to the live finale regardless if they won or not.
While she wished she had tried to make an effort with her appearance, Matty wasn't the least bit fazed with how unpolished she was and cheerfully set out dinner for them and happily chatted with her. Her hangover improved remarkably as they feasted and wittered away together, reflecting on their dance journey and reminiscing on the last three months together. At one point Edwina felt a pang of emotion hitting her square in the chest as she realised this might be the last proper time they'd get to hang out with each other. Matty's win would definitely solidify his prominence in the public eye and with that would come increased job opportunities, and Edwina couldn't help feeling upset at the prospect of the unknown, not knowing what the future had in store and fearing the bond between them would disappear as soon as they weren't in one another's constant company.
"Eddie?"
"Mhm?"
Matty exhaled, drumming his fingers against the table, and she quickly realised he was nervous. Instinctively she reached out, her fingers slotting with his until she was grasping his hand, the action of which surprised him as he stared at their intertwined hands.
"Is everything okay?" she asked him.
"Yeah. Yeah of course... It's just that... there's something I want to say and I just... I don't want to make things weird but if I don't say it now I'm worried I might burst."
"So say it." Edwina encouraged him, her heartbeat starting to pick up in pace and her hope began to rise at the possible reason behind what it was he was dying to say.
He met her gaze, and though hesitant for a second, she saw a determination in him that reared up whenever they practiced a routine and also when he took her bird-watching on his personal quest to provide her with the sight of seeing something worthwhile.
"Edwina." he breathed her name out as his hand gently squeezed hers. "These last three months have been nothing short of amazing, rewarding, life-changing... and I owe that all to you. This experience has meant everything to me. Not just because I learnt how to dance and somehow ended up a winner... but because I met you. Our friendship has meant everything to me, even more than winning the show... and if I'm being honest... I've fallen in love with you."
She inhaled deeply, her heart racing like never before as his confession set off what felt like millions of giddy butterflies in her stomach.
"I'm sorry if me saying that makes you feel uncomfortable because you don't feel the same back, and I don't expect you too either." Matty carried on speedily, desperately wanting to get everything out in fear of her cutting him off and shutting him down. "But I just wanted you to know that I think you're the sweetest, most graceful and patient, intelligent, and beautiful person I've ever met and I've cherished every last second I've had the honour of getting to spend time with you. And I'm sorry if I've ruined our friendship by saying all this because obviously how could someone like you ever like someone like me in that way, but I knew if I didn't say ianything I'd always live with the regret-"
Matty was momentarily startled when suddenly his lips were covered by Edwina's, but as soon as he realised that his feelings were being reciprocated he relaxed into the embrace and kissed her back.
"I've fallen in love with you too, by the way." Edwina withdrew from their kiss to mention. "I've never felt like this about anyone before and I just love everything about you."
The sweetest smile beamed back at her before Matty pulled her back in for a kiss. As her arms wrapped around his neck, Edwina knew that what she and Matty had was the real deal, knowing then and there that she'd never dream of wanting to kiss anyone else but him and feeling exhilarated at the thought of their future together.

Okay but we needdddd more high school Edwina x Josie
Okay but we know Josie is stoked, even if she’s nervous to actually text THE Edwina Sharma but Edwina is also VERY excited. She’s had a crush on Josie for three years, and pretty much everyone except Josie knows it. Even Kate.
“What’s new with you?” Kate asked over the phone from university.
Edwina sighed, leaning back against her pillows, “I’m going out with Josie Bagwell this weekend!”
Kate gasped, “You finally told her you’re in love with her?! How’d it go?!”
“Technically her brother yelled out across the cafeteria that she wanted my number but she’s been sending very cute texts since then.”
And pretty much from that weekend onwards, Josie and Edwina are inseparable. Josie waits outside school for Edwina to arrive and waves awkwardly to Mrs Sharma while Edwina wraps her arms around Josie before they walk in hand in hand. And they’re always sitting at lunch together, Frankie winking at Edwina’s friends while Josie and Edwina giggle over something.
Even the teachers are sighing about it when Josie walks past with Edwina on her shoulders.
“Josephine, please put her down before you drop her!” Mrs Smith turned to her colleague. “Actually they’re very sweet together.”
“They make me feel so fucking single.”

imagine if they decide to both bring back the prince and introduce mr. bagwell (or whoever may be his equivalent) and basically edwina ends up being true to her book persona and picks bagwell, leaving the prince once again rejected because of someone else 😭
idk its just funny to me if that were to happen because poor prince friedrich,, he’s probably the nicest person there

I'm genuinely curious about what you and some fans think, as I'm considering writing fanfic about Kate and Edwina's relationship or at least featuring Edwina a bit more. But I have no idea who I should pair Edwina with! I've considered the Prince or Bagwell but I also wonder if she should end up with Lumley? Or even someone completely different (yeah, I've toyed with Eddie/Eloise in a modern AU) I'd love to know your thoughts?
Hi! Thank you so much for your ask! Ahhhh, it’s so exciting that you’re writing a fic about the Sharmas! Please send it to me once it’s finished so I can share it here <3
Personally, I like her the most with prince Friedrich! They have very similar personalities/prospects. Both very familiar and so open about their desire of having children. If you choose them, Edwina would be living in Prussia, but I imagine she'd visit Kate and Mary (or maybe Mary went to Prussia with her, that’s up to you!) in London very often! Especially when Kate gets pregnant, PLEASE!
Edwina x Eloise is such a cute pairing too!!! Eloise could teach Edwina a lot about feminism at the beginning of their friendship and the could bond over their love for books. You could add a scene in your fic when Edwina talks about her feelings for Eloise with Kate too! I imagine she would be very confused about what she is feeling.
Mhm, I wouldn’t consider Lumley! I don’t think Edwina was very interested in him and she was only being polite since she trusts Kate’s gut? It’s my opinion, of course! Whoever you choose and makes Edwina happy will be perfect, to be honest! You can also pair her with an oc (played by Dev Patel, please), it would be so interesting <3
Feel free to add/send your suggestions, guys!

every single person i know who's watched s1, irrespective of whether they read the books, thought benedict was gay till we actually saw him making out with that woman in that orgy. 😭😭😭 i know benophie is a well-liked ship but it wasn't my favorite book and i'd have loved it more if they'd gone for that artist x benedict lol. or male!sophie? idk. also in my head henry golding was bagwell (blame crazy rich asians), but that's not going to happen :/ i wasn't TOO invested in that but yea.
(would also love eloise to be asexual actually, but that's also probably not happening, i still can't picture her with the philip they've shown us tho.)
i get all the reservations about sophie being a woc but i feel like she still will be one because as of now, the next two couples are all white - pen and colin, philip and eloise.
also idk if you've watched lost in space but ajay friese in my head is gareth, and his character in the show has a similar-ish dynamic in the show with one of the girls too. i know he's a bit young but it's a fancast :p
I think most of us(?) think that Benedict's storyline from season 1 gives an indication that he is queer, or rather, his sexuality is going to be explored in the second season. If they don't end up doing that, then IMO, it's a clear case of queer-baiting.
I have a feeling that they had Benedict befriend Henry, so that Ben could see a relationship that is considered taboo for the time, i.e between two men, and the way it struggles, to foreshadow his relationship with Sophie. However, I find that to be in such bad taste, because a relationship between two people of different social and economic classes is not the same as a relationship between two people of the same sex or gender, and it doesn’t face the same obstacles.
(Answer got long so put it under the cut)
If Granville and Weatherby's relationship was to be made public, their literal lives would be in danger; it's not a stretch to say that they could be killed. If Benedict were to marry a maid, sure there would be some social ostracisation (to an extent, he's a second son so there's less pressure on him), but neither of them are going to be at risk of losing their lives.
If they wanted to show the struggles of a relationship between two people of different social and economic classes, Anthony and Siena were right there. But for whatever reason, they chose not to go down that route, so I hope that my fears about queer-baiting prove unfounded, and that Ben will be exploring his sexuality next season? (Also, Ben realising that he likes both men and women won't devalue or demean his relationship with Sophie, and to suggest that it would is really gross.)
Ben's book isn't my favourite, tbh I couldn't really stand book!Ben and kept wanting to shake Sophie and tell her he isn't worth it lol. Which I was surprised about because having watched the show first, I really liked Ben's character. Sophie, however, is an absolute sweetheart who deserves everything good in the world (which doesn't include book!Ben imo, so I'm glad they've changed him in the show).
To your point about a male!Sophie, it is a thought that I had too. However, I was discussing this with a friend, and they pointed out that changing a woman character to a man probably wouldn't be best, just because it would be erasing Sophie's story, and if she were changed to be a man, I guess some of the precariousness of her situation would be lost? And Sophie is such a wonderful character by herself, that I'm not really sure how it would translate to her becoming a man?
And yeah, I think Sophie will be played by a WOC because the two couples after that (Polin and Philoise) will be all white.
Look, lesbian Edwina owns my heart, but I know how unlikely it is that the show will go down that route. But instead of pairing her with a white man, can we not pair her with a MOC? Henry Golding is interesting? Tbh I don't see him as Bagwell, but I could maybe see him as John Stirling? And then Colin from Crazy Rich Asians as Michael, because he was hot lol (I know it’s not likely but it’s just fancasting).
I don't know if Eloise as asexual was mentioned in a previous ask, but I could see it? I'm not exactly a book!Phillip fan, but I think we saw so little of him in the first season that it was hard to discern his character properly. Plus, in order for Philoise to happen, Marina has to die, and the idea of that makes me so uncomfortable for a number of reasons.
And I haven't read IIHK, so I don't really know the vibe~ Gareth gives off, but this is Ajay Friese for anyone who doesn't know. I had to look him up as I haven't seen Lost in Space. And he might be young now, but it will be a good few years before they get to Hyacinth's book so he has time lol.
#ask#anon#benedict bridgerton#bridgerton#now that anon has mentioned henry golding i can't get it out of my head that if the bridgertons weren't white henry as benedict???

on book vs show edwina: this is probably an unpopular opion at this point but i dont like the edwina x prince ship in the show. i liked that in the book she fell for a guy that she shouldn't because he was a second son and scholar who couldn't provide for her family. she was a diamond and had no interest in all the fancy suitors, she liked someone who suited her!! and she actually got a happy ending with him because kate married the rich guy. and she joins the annual pall mall tradition!!
in a modern setting it would be popular girl who is actually nerdy falling for the cute librarian (vs kate and anthony who are both jocks lol)
I personally don't like Edwina/the Prince because I find the Prince to be terribly boring and also I hate the idea of Edwina ending up with another basic white guy when she clearly deserves better. (and also I believe in the Lesbian!Edwina supremacy)
I was so upset we didn't get Mr. Bagwell and tbh I thought Mr. Dorset was going to be his replacement once he was introduced. Like "Oh, Edwina realizes that Kate loves Anthony and so she ends up with Mr. Dorset instead" but alas it didn't happen.
I genuinely can't believe they put so much effort into having the Bridgertons...not like Edwina?? And they didn't show her having fun at Pall Mall, even though she did in the books (if I'm remembering correctly she just wasn't very good at it and the competitive spirit bugged her) but outside of Anthony and Daphne and Violet, Edwina spends no time with the Bridgertons. Idk, it just felt that no one in Anthony's family actually LIKED Edwina they all preferred Kate.
Also I love Edwina falling for a scholar and they completely removed that plot line (book!Edwina would turn down Anthony's proposal the minute he said "I haven't read anything but the accounts in years")
All this to say, I agree with you anon.

Edwina's Children
For @edwinaweek I thought I'd share my headcanon for Edwina and Matthew Bagwell's children as part of my Bridgerton: The Next Generation series.
Jeremy Bagwell is born the day before his cousin Edmund's first birthday, and throughout their childhood the Bridgerton and Bagwell families would celebrate the birthdays together at Aubrey Hall, which was always an anticipated highlight of Jeremy's year. He was a very easy baby and rather quiet much to his parents curious disbelief, especially in comparison to the energetic chaos his cousins wreaked on a daily basis. But as he grew, it became apparent that Jeremy was simply a boy of a quieter nature, who was more than content with his own company and much preferred the peace and tranquility of his parents' library than the rough and tumble of the great outdoors. His favourite pastime was being read to by his parents, an activity which he didn't want to limit to just bedtime alone and he would eagerly run up to either parent throughout the day with books in hand requesting to be read to. When he was old enough to read himself he permanently had his head buried in a book, and he could often be found alongside his father in the library as they separately studied their favoured texts. Much like is father, Jeremy would go on to be a scholar, but instead of philosophy, Jeremy opted to become a professor of his lifelong passion; history. So engrossed was he with his educational role, he never showed much interest in settling down or even courting any of the eligible young ladies of the Ton. He never much cared for balls and parties, with the only social events he ever made an effort to attend being those hosted by his Aunt Kate. While he tended to stick close to his relatives, at one particular ball he slipped away to the library of Bridgerton House in search of a textbook he hadn't reread in several years; only to find the season's diamond tucked away reading the exact book he was after. Miss Theodosia Barrington was a reluctant diamond and had been shocked to named as the season's incomparable, especially when she hadn't wanted to take her bow in society in the first place. Much to his surprise Jeremy felt an instant bond with her, and then to his even greater surprise by the end of the season he had married a diamond of the first water, just like his father had before him.
Three years after their first, Edwina and Matthew welcomed baby number two, Francis, into the world. From very early on Francis was an incredibly smiley baby who adored every show of affection he was spoiled with. While his brother was happy to be independent and do his own thing, Francis loved being surrounded by others and would trail after his Mama, Papa, his brother Jem, the household staff, and any guests that came to visit. Someone he adored in particular was his dear Grandmama Mary, who he always ecstatically greeted with a great big hug and whose lap was his most favourite seat. In turn (as much as she claimed not to have favourites among her grandchildren), Mary couldn't help but possess a special fondness for Francis, not just in the way he loved her abundantly, but how his smile and shining eyes were the most reminiscent of her late husband out of her four grandsons. Francis thoroughly enjoyed his stays at Aubrey Hall throughout the years and loved running after his older cousins Edmund and Miles, as well as his cousins' cousins too, happily integrating himself among them as they played games together and hurtled around from one end of the estate to the other. His outgoing and personable nature carried on into adulthood, making plenty of friends along the way during his years abroad, as well as befriending perfect strangers in any ballroom and assembly room he stepped foot into. As delightfully affable and pleasing as Francis was, there were two weaknesses he possessed; pretty girls and suggestibility. With the former he often tended to fall hard and fast for ladies with winsome smiles and sweet temperaments, and had ended up suffering from a string of heartbreaks as a result. The latter was arguably the bigger flaw for him because as confident a young man as he was, he still relied on the approval of those in his life who he looked up to the most and would end up swaying to agree with whatever his role models advised of him in spite of his own thoughts and feelings on the respective matter at hand.
After another three year gap, the Bagwells welcomed their little girl, Maryam, born a month after her Cousin Charlotte. Edwina and Kate loved having daughters so close in age and much to Mary's amusement, Maryam was practically identical to Edwina as Charlotte was to Kate, and watching her granddaughters play and spend time together was just like watching Kate and Edwina twenty odd years before them. Maryam loved her big brothers and copied them both despite their contrasting natures; she'd lark and dance about with Francis as often as she would take a seat next to Jeremy and read a book alongside him (which she adorably did even before she had learnt how to read). She also loved to copy her Mama and enjoyed playing dress up in her mother's gowns and having her Mama style her hair to match hers. From a young age she adored bedtime stories of handsome princes and falling in love after a single dance, and naturally Edwina couldn't help bracing herself for the day her daughter wanted to make her debut into society and all the hopeless romantic antics it may bring - however Edwina was surprised when Maryam came to her about her debut and made the odd request to spend as little money on her gowns as possible. When Edwina asked why, Maryam expressed her worry of impressing the Queen too much and potentially ending up as diamond of the season just like her, not wanting to suffer the same pressures as Edwina had during her season. Sympathetic to her woes, Edwina assured her daughter that regardless if she was the diamond or not, she shouldn't feel burdened by any pressures of securing a prosperous match for the sake of bettering their family; all she wanted for her daughter was to find a love match and secure her happiness. With the reassurance that she would only be expected to marry for love, Maryam enjoyed her debut season alongside her Cousin Charlotte. Sure, not all the suitors she danced with or who called upon her impressed her much, but she was in no real rush to find her perfect match just yet - that is, until she attended David Basset's wedding and was introduced to the bride's brother, Mr. Benedict Woodson.

I can imagine in the farmer AU when Kate ends up pregnant a less than a year later edwina is giving her a huge side eye. Like “I knew it… two people that got can’t keep apart for long”
Edwina holding her tiny nephew who's staring up at her with Kate's eyes in a face that is firmly her brother in law's. Her heart pounding over the way Anthony is hovering over Kate whispering quietly,
"Are you alright my love? Do you need anything?"
Before he goes to hover by his son.
"Edwina if you just-" As he adjusts her position slightly, running his hand over his son's head lightly.
"Thank you, Anthony" She says a little startled at being corrected on anything close to children by a man.
"Darling." Kate says, catching Anthony's attention whose at her side instantly, his eyes wide. "Perhaps you could fetch us some tea. Edwina's had a long journey. Or show Matthew the new horses."
A flicker of something uncomfortable passes over Anthony's face as he looks towards Matthew who'd looked up excitedly at the sound of his name. "I'd quite like to see the farm actually. I'm rather curious."
Anthony nodded slowly, pressing his lips against Kate's cheek, whispering quietly, "Send Gregory for me if you need me."
And Edwina couldn't help but stare at him as he jerks his head for Matthew to follow him, before they leave the sitting room.
"Well." Edwina couldn't help but say a little pointedly
But Kate sighs, "It's not that he doesn't like Matthew, he just feels nervous, out of place with him because Matthew's a gentleman."
Edwina waved her sister off, "Oh, not that, Matthew has the disposition of a rather friendly dog, it can be a bit off putting at first. I was more meaning to comment on your life here."
Kate raised her eyebrows , "What of it?"
Edwina couldn't fight the smirk on her face, "Sad to see you treated as such a governess."
Kate rolled her eyes, spinning the diamond ring they'd all been a little startled to see placed on her finger at her wedding little over a year ago. "You aren't amusing."
Edwina hummed. "The birthing of the master's first son is such a special time in a governess' life I've heard."
"I could always ask you to leave my house." Kate sighed.
"Honestly, probably for the best, I'm worried Matthew will ask Anthony if he can keep a lamb for himself. He thinks they're sweet."
And three weeks later Edwina is indeed bundled back into a carriage with her husband and Lambert between them.

Kate x Francesca (scene: before dinner, after Pen & A leave) // D: Kate, Edwina. I don't believe you have met my sister Francesca // K: I am afraid we have not had the pleasure. It is lovely to make your acquaintance // F: It is great to finally meet you, Miss Sheffield, and Miss Sheffield // E: It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Bridgerton // F: Likewise 😁. My sister here tells me that you managed to sink Anthony's ball in the lake. 😏 Is that true? (⅓) 🐢
K: I may have… // F: *squee* You are my new favorite person! You simply must regale me with your triumphant tale // K: There isn't much of the story to tell, I am afraid // F: Nonsense! Any tale that ends with my eldest brother well and truly bested is a tale worth repeating. Would you kindly sit beside me at dinner? // K: I suppose… // E: She will be delighted 😇 (⅔) 🐢
*In which K finds herself seated nearer to the head of the table, (exchanging seats with a Mr Bagwell) and F notes the amount of times subtle glances were stolen between K & A throughout dinner* (3/3) 🐢
SO MUCH YES to all of this. I need more Francesca and this would be a great way of bringing her into more scenes in S2.

fear of god by @phantomphaeton
This is not a love story, but love is in it. That is—love is just outside it, looking for a way to break in.
Post-season 2 AU featuring unhinged matchmaker Edwina, Anthony's various nicknames and new hobbies, a wild architect Bagwell. I love this fic so much!
