Avenger’s Compound, a place that’s usually bustling with activities and combat training sometime’s has quiet days like this where super-powered humans who have insanely intense hearing can hear a pin drop from across campus. For you though being one of the youngest on the team you hated those days because it seemed as if everybody always wanted to see what you were up to. You weren’t necessarily an avenger but you were extremely smart and helped out around the lab and worked on some Stark Industries projects with your dad every once and a while. And that’s how you met Peter Parker and during those first two years of awkward conversations and study dates you two seemed to find some comfort in all that awkwardness.

Peter nodded his head yes while lifting his body off your bed to instead sit on the edge of the bed closer to your desk where all of your work was scattered across your laptop.

“But first I need to put some music on or else I won’t be able to focus” You said before sliding the miscellaneous papers off your laptop.

“That’s the Stark in you talking, how can you focus better with music blasting in your ears?” Peter asked while laughing.

“I guess you are right, that is a classic trait of my dads. But it just helps me focus better. I don't know, I can't explain it.” You turned on your playlist before flipping to the first page of the stack of formulas Bruce assigned you to solve.

Your speaker was loud but who cares it’s not like anyone cared or was listening everyone was off doing their own things. The first few songs were upbeat and fun but the farther you got into your playlist the more guilty pleasure songs started playing, but Peter didn’t mind he was blocking out the music anyways so he could focus better on the formulas in front of him. What you didn’t know was that Steve and Nat were standing outside your room listening.

“Knee deep where? doing what?” Steve said worriedly looking over at Nat.

“It’s just a song Steve stop being so old-school” Nat smirked back at him.

“But Peter’s in there with her, what if they aren’t actually studying?” Steve asked as any worried uncle would.

“The song is talking about having relations in the bathroom during dinner time, that’s not appropriate Nat” Steve said firmly not accepting any excuse now.

Nat wasn’t interested in continuing this conversation any further and started walking toward the living quarters where there sat Bucky, Clint, Bruce and of course Tony.

“What’s got you so tense Cap? Your boyfriends right here if you have to relieve some tension” Tony laughed making fun of Steve and Bucky’s unusual bromance.

“I think you should worry more about what your daughter and Peter are doing upstairs” Steve said, crossing his arms.

“What? What are you talking about Cap? His vigilant ass better not be corrupting my innocent perfect daughter” Tony angrily stated as his face turned a shade of red nobody expected.

“They are listening to a song about having relations in the car and bathroom” Steve said pointing upstairs to your room.

“And you didn’t shut it down the moment you heard that? What kind of uncle are you?” Tony asked running up the stairs to take a listen for himself.

“Oh my gosh the lyrics are filthy but it sounds so calming, how does an artist achieve that?” Tony muttered under his breath before harshly knocking on your bedroom door and bursting in unannounced.

“What’s going on here?” Tony yelled loudly only to be met with a view of you sitting at your desk and Peter sitting on your bed leaning against the headboard with a textbook and stack of papers sitting on his lap.

“What dad? We are busy figuring out the formulas Bruce gave us. Why the hell is everyone crowding outside my room?” You asked, pointing towards Steve, Bucky, Nat, Clint and Bruce all huddling in a circle outside your bedroom door.

“Well we heard the song you guys were listening to and were a bit concerned. You guys aren’t acting on those lyrics are you? You guys better not be under my roof” Tony questioned with a look of disgust on his face.

“What the hell are you going on about dad?” You asked looking over at Peter who looked like he'd seen a ghost.

“Are you guys having sexual relations?” Tony asked in disgust as your playlist suddenly skipped to the next song which would make your case even worse.

“Head so good, she's an honor roll she’ll ride your what like a carnival?” Tony repeated the lyrics.

“I am on the honor roll though, so it’s not entirely a lie” You replied back smirking like a smartass.

“This is not a laughing matter young lady, we are talking about something serious here, answer my question right now” Tony stated with a straight face not joking around anymore.

“Yeah we are and what about it?” You said, shrugging your shoulders.

“Y/n not in front of everybody” Peter said shyly.

“Who cares Peter they were going to find out sooner or later anyways, might as well just tell them now” You said looking back at everyone’s shocked faces. As you looked past your father behind him stood Bucky handing Clint a ten dollar bill.

“You guys had a bet going on about us?” Peter asked, looking back and forth between them but also keeping one eye on Tony just in case he might try to kill him.

“This conversation is not over and from now on this door stays open” Tony said sternly ignoring all the giggles and snarky remarks coming from his fellow avengers. Your playlist then starts playing a different song which lightens up the mood just a little.

“This one has a dance to go along with it, watch H-O-T-T-O-G-O it’s like the YMCA'' You said while doing the dance.

“I like doing the YMCA” Steve said, smiling now entering your room.

“Of course you do because you're ancient” Peter said jokingly.

As you can expect you didn’t think you’d be ending your day teaching Steve Rogers the Hot To Go dance however you wouldn’t trade the quiet days at the compound for anything because at the end of the day you’re just one big family and you wouldn’t trade them for the world.

It’s been a while since I fever dreamed the plot to something, but I just woke up from a literal fever dream set in a futuristic version of New York where Tom Hiddleston and his pet cyborg owl are entrenched in a spy thriller buddy-cop narrative, only to get swept up in the conflicting heartfelt rom-com narrative of Dakota Johnson who, after a series of unfortunate breakups, has sworn off love and committed herself heart and soul to her job as a curator at Futuristic Met Museum. This is much to the distress of her weed smoking, shroom taking trans lesbian mothers and their elderly dog, Jeff, who just want her to find happiness and love.

As part of his cover, Tom and his cyborg owl, Frank, move into the same apartment where he’ll be staying for several months while he plans to steal a diamond from the Met. I think if you held it up to the light it would project nuclear launch codes that’d been etched onto it. Don’t ask me, my brain was more focused on making the cyborg owl into the wise-cracking comic relief. It kept saying things like “wow Tom, you really are a jack of owl trades” or “don’t worry, Tom, owl always love you.”

The pair meet in the lobby where Tom manages to piss off Dakota by not holding the elevator for her while she is carrying heavy boxes. The apartment building, however, is old and shitty, and he gets stuck in the elevator, requiring him to be rescued by one of Dakota’s mothers who also happens to be the super. Dakota huffs her way out the stairwell just in time to hear her mother inviting the “nice British man” to dinner, much to her chagrin as she realizes that her mom is trying to set her up with the asshole and the cyborg owl that sits on his shoulder like a parrot.

Tom, who finds out she works for the met over said dinner, decides to go along with it as he realizes she’d be the perfect cover to get into the Met Museum for an upcoming gala event—not to mention the perfect person to take the fall for his theft—and begins wooing her relentlessly, assuring Frank, the cyborg owl, that it’s all just part of the mission.

Eventually, the pair fall for each other for realzies, and Tom is conflicted over using her to steal the diamond but his time is running out because we also find out he went rogue for a while after his partner died and was using his skills to work freelance for an international crime syndicate and now the mob is after him?????

Anyway, he’s about to confess all to her on the night of the gala when she gets a phone call from her moms letting her know that their elderly dog, Jeff, is dying so the pair rush back to the apartment and take him to the nearest cyborg vet in the hopes of saving him. En route, the mob find them and start shooting at the flying car they’re in and it leads to a comedic shouting match between the pair along the lines of “what do you mean you’re an international spy and the mob are after you? Ugh, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me this sooner! I told you everything about me!”

“Oh, yes, your embarrassing high school stories are exactly the same thing as divulging international secrets. Tell you what, after this let’s get a coffee and I can tell you some highly sensitive top secret information to even out the playing field.”

Anyway, Frank the cyborg owl manages to take out the mob car chasing them with a grenade (????!), and the pair get Jeff to the cyborg vet in time. The dream shifted after that to Dakota helping Tom to figure out how to break into the Met so he can get the diamond, not because she loves him and he helped save her childhood dog, but because she wants him gone. Tom accepts her help and storms off to his own apartment where Frank the cyborg owl is poignantly silent save to say “take some Tylenol”

“…what?”

“Wake up, you need Tylenol.”

Which is what sent me rocketing upright in bed, dizzy and dehydrated, pounding migraine headache, drenched in sweat and running what the thermometer tells me is a 102 fever.

Which brings us to now where I’m downing Tylenol in the dimly lit kitchen, guzzling water and typing this all up on my phone because there’s no way I’m going to remember all this in the morning but damn if it wasn’t a fun dream.

Anyway, shout out to Frank the cyborg owl for waking me up before my brain fried ✌️🦉. I’m going back to bed.

Just saw manly play indigo park and oh my goodness this is turning out to be mascot horror done right or at least some good handling

Mascot horror’s been kinda a meh genre since people starting riding off the coattails of FNAF (which in itself I find good but the series works better as more of a “Sit and Survive” style game instead of a open world/roaming kinda game like everything trying to follow Security Breach.)

Poppy Playtime is ok. It’s not perfect but the devs do shine with their animation skills (Even if I feel they kinda waste it most of the time with Minecraft animations and some other controversies) and it’s not really something with a whole lot of replay value (Very linear and at least in FNAF there’s some incentive to replay a majority of the games with stuff such as secrets/alternative endings and the custom night mode.)

We have stuff we do not talk about like Garbage of Banban and the fifty million other games trying to copy it.

Anyways back to Indigo park.

Yes it’s your standard affair of mascot horror but this game has a lot of charm to it from what I’ve seen. It’s clear that this project’s being made with love and has a few things I haven’t seen Mascot Horror games do a whole lot of.

Namely in the form of this game’s voice with an internet connection and companion, a goofy little guy named Rambly the Raccoon.

While having a character to act as a guide for the protagonist is a pretty common thing in these sorts of games, they either are a faceless voice over a phone/intercom, don’t show up until much later, or a simple pre-recorded infodump. Rambly is not that.

He’s met almost right off the bat not long after you start the game. While a bit glitchy, he shows right off the bat that he has is own personality to add a bit of comic relief to what is a horror game.

I kinda like to think of Rambly as a mix between Navirou (Monster Hunter Stories) and Wheatley (Portal) since he does act as both a companion character and voice for the (silent) protagonist but also interacts and comments on the environment that he’s a part of as well.

Also while a minor one, a feature for collectibles which also add a bit of lore (and humor with some of Rambly’s comments) to the game, not something we’ve seen too often in your free roaming mascot horror titles save for Security Breach (Yes there’s going to be a lot of comparisons between the two).

Finally, onto the enemies.

They actually work pretty well in the setting they’re supposed to be set in. As in, not overly gross and elongated abstract shapes that look super out of place or filled to the brim with mutations and razor sharp teeth but actually look like the characters one might find in the setting they would be in, abet still retaining that obvious “monsters out to get you look”. Kinda like the animatronics from FNAF that would be “in service” would fit appropriately in their specific location unlike something out of Garten of Banban which is supposed to be a daycare.

In all seriousness, who the fuck would be bringing their kids to a place filled with weird blobby creatures that look something out of a Pamtri video.

In other words, go check out and support the people working on Indigo Park!

HOW TO ACTUALLY WRITE -- THE BASICS (AKA STEP 0-1)

(AKA ThePoetJean justifies their Master's degree and makes it everyone else's problem)

1) "WRITING IS REWRITING" AND WHAT THE HELL THAT MEANS -- No writing is law or set in stone upon the first draft, and whoever taught you that is a bum. Even permanent glue can be removed by nail polish remover, so why is editing your first draft no different? When writing for fun, oftentimes you can edit the post and clean up the story when things are no longer working (it's called a cutting room floor for a reason). When writing for publishing, you'll often be paired with an editor who'll send tweaks back-and-forth to you, chipping away at any structural mistakes or grammar flaws to bring out the point of your writing piece in the process. The first draft is just about getting the general vibes of the story down: like the batter for the cake recipe before you start baking it. This part is meant to be fun and messy and no one expects you to serve them go when you're just cracking your eggs open. Let yourself be messy cuz (burnt or fluffy), this is the first step to making your story, so no need to have something be all pretty and presentable the first time around! Again, a lot of writing is just rewriting cuz drafts are a thing so getting stuff down is most important. And another amazing thing -- if the story sucks, you can always change it later! You gotta trust yourself to get it done in order to get it out to the world one way or another, so go do that!

2) LEARN YOUR OWN WRITING PROCESS! -- (OH MY GOD PPL, LEARN HOW YOU TO THE THING IT'S HALF THE BATTLE!) Most of the struggles I see with newer writers is never learning how they write, and that sucks since have the joy of making things is making the thing -- so why make writing stories so arduos for yourself. Learn your own methods and use them whenever you get to writing! Learn the writerly basics like plot, structure, framing, character voice, setting, time period, etc and learn how best you can utilize them in your own stories! On a purely craft level: Learn ALL THE WRITING CRAFT and keep in mind that all writing craft is meant to be guidelines rather than hard rules. Learn many ways about how to write in general cuz no writing advice is one size fits all and being embarrassed of your process is dumb and hinders your creative growth. Trust yourself as a writer, you'll improve faster that way. Believing you can and believing it's possible is the first step to doing anything! (Plus all writing is rewriting anyhow to there's no need to feel embarrassed about something you can fix later, anyways, right?)

3) Read projects like your project in order to get a better feel of your project. Whether it be writing style references, basic literary craft examples, or just you want to break down the vibes of the stories so you can better emulate in your own -- GO AND WATCH/READ/LISTEN ETC TO WHATEVER STORIES YOU THINK WOULD MATCH THE VIBES OF YOUR OWN!! Now, this isn't a 1-to-1 copy, you're not mean to make a clone of the thing you like or take properties for the IP that you're into -- that's more along the lines of fanfiction (which can be fun and is ofc, super valid) -- BUT! To create your own stories, you need to learn where you get your ideas from, and learn how to implement, borrow, twist, etc from the story structures and properties you gather your inspo from. Other writers are your peers, not your enemies -- so treat their work and your own with the respect it deserves. No two chicken sandwiches are ever exactly the same; true artists steal from many places, so learn how to be a good thief (creatively speaking). Example from my own secret WIP novel: I'm writing a New Adult Urban fantasy novel with a dark, powerful lady protagonist that uses lots of philosophical themes, alternate history perspectives as well as using mythology as a basis for a lot of the magical roots and setting roots. Likewise, this a story about friendship and romance after major loss and trauma, and how to come back to yourself after grief, so I've been looking for stories that cover those themes in their plots, which has made the story a lot more fun to read and write outside of just being a cool concept to play with.

If you're writing a second-chance romance story, read romance stories. If you're writing a sci-fi story with lots of robots, read stories about robots. Presumably, you enjoy the same stories you're writing in concept if not in execution, so don't hesitate to seek those stories out, and break down how those stories work in order to scrap them for literary parts. You're smarter than you think you are, and breaking down stories is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it, so please consider doing this as you go into your next project, your writing will thank you for it!

OPTIONAL:

4) If the story works better as something else, swap the format and see what happens.

Have you ever read something and been like "Huh, I like this book, but with how iconography is used in the actual text, it might be better as a movie or a comic book"? So have I!

So, if you ever feel like the story you're writing isn't working so well as a novel or a play, consider turning it into a movie or a webcomic! Of course, this is all easier said than done, and every writing format comes with its own rules and limitations, but I'd give it a try if you ever want to see your project from a fresh perspective! If nothing else, you'll learn something new -- and become a better writer for it!

Risotto

Risotto is very firm by nature. Or, at least, he is after you've met him.

When he finds out you're autistic, he might become a little more firm with you. He puts in place rules for you to follow that may seem a little unfair.

But it's dangerous, being associated with him.

It's not intentional, but he thinks of you as weaker than him. He feels a stronger urge to protect you than everyone else. Everyone else in the Execution Squad have Stands to defend themselves. You may not. He does not want you to be taken advantage of.

It may take a big argument to clear this up, because he's rather dense when things aren't being spelled out for him word for word. At least, in situations like these.

After that, though, he takes more time to observe you so he can note what makes you happy. So he's less likely to upset you in the future.

Ghiaccio

He's definitely a little autistic. I imagine him a little like Sheldon from Young Sheldon LMAO

No but seriously, he's quieter with you. You understand him in a way that's different from the way the others understand him. He still gets very agitated very quickly, but it's different with you.

The two of you can bond over your hatred for textures, too. Velvet or velcro feels like hellfire on your skin. (oops a little projection on my part)

He doesn't ever point any of his anger out on you. And if he even suspects that you might've been upset by his outbursts, he's quick to apologize.

The others make fun of him for it. They call him soft, like snow instead of ice. But he can't bring himself to care. Not when you're the only one on the team that could even begin to comprehend his thoughts.

Melone

Despite his...very obvious gooning, he is still a genius. He's observant, he's technical, and he probably knows you're autistic before you tell him.

He subtly prompts you to talk about your special interests, just so he can listen to you talk. Other than Ghiaccio, and maybe Pesci, he might be the most understanding, even though he's not autistic himself.

He definitely is a little neurodivergent himself, but he's not autistic.

It's not often that he gets you gifts for ur special interest, because he'd rather listen to you talk about it while he's working. It's like listening to a podcast while he works.

He eats all the food you can't eat easily. It's not like he minds.

Prosciutto

Mmmmmm, truthfully, you might get along with him the least.

He's a nitpicker. And, as an autistic myself, I know it's hard to differentiate between when he's just picking at our flaws, or when he's just saying things to say them.

He nitpicks to make you as perfect for him as what he believes he deserves. It's a weird complex.

Someone who's autistic has a harder time just brushing off his coddling and aggressive doting because he's all up in your face about it.

That isn't to say that you don't get along with him at all. He's rather sweet when he's not, y'know. He does things for you, he gets you gifts, all that fun stuff. It's just about the nitpicking that you two get into arguments about, really. Because he does like hearing you talk, and he does sweet things for you, too.

It's really just that one habit that you can't get over. It takes a lot to break him out of it, if you have the patience for that.

Formaggio

He's a great communicator boyfriend. He likes talking to you a lot, and listening to you in turn.

It's a pretty smooth ride into the relationship with the two of you. Since Formaggio is very open to talking out any of your issues calmly, rather than starting an argument, or avoiding a topic entirely until resentment starts to build.

You can appreciate his straight forward attitude on communication.

It doesn't take long for him to clock what your interests are because of his easy communication.

Out of all of the gang, he's the smoothest about how he goes about finding out how to get you gifts. He'll ask you to talk about your interests, which isn't out of the ordinary for him, while mentally noting which things you're more into, which ones you've expressed wanting more content for.

And, what do you know, figurines and books will appear in your room as if Santa came early.

Illuso

He doesn't exactly understand it, or why you act the way you do sometimes. But he likes you well enough, so he's willing to learn.

He takes the food you won't eat, he keeps the textures you don't like away from you. He memorizes what your reactions to things mean, how you stim, even.

Most of this is not intentional. He's just good at stuff like this. He's a very keen people watcher, which is why he's usually assigned to stake outs or kidnappings. (He's a stalker)

He mentions your interests off handedly, just because he likes to see you light up.

Pesci

Similar to Formaggio, he's an excellent communicator. You're a lot nicer to him than his fratello, at least.

He enjoys your straightforward attitude and tendencies. It's a lot easier to understand than Prosciutto's aggressive corrections.

He might be a little dense, so he won't pick up on your autism for a long time. You might even have to tell him straight up that you're autistic because he won't piece it together himself.

But that's okay. He makes up for his density by being a sweetheart.

He also will take the food you don't want to eat. He's not picky.

He likes to learn about your interests so that he can have in depth conversations about them with you. If your interests are a little morbid, he may get a little squeamish, but he can deal with it, he assures you. He's a grown man. In the Mafia. He can handle something a little morbid, he's seen worse.

Gelato and Sorbet

They're a package deal, because of course they are.

Gelato might not notice at first. Not like Sorbet does. Sorbet had actually graduated from university, with a bachelor's in psychology. So he definitely knows you're not neurotypical, at least.

They're both very open to your mannerisms, though. Neither of them are bothered by petty things like how you eat your food or what blankets you like more than others.

They're more than willing to accommodate for you. Changing one thing about their routine is a small price to pay to make sure you're comfortable with them.

Gelato is almost aggressive with how he'll defend you about what makes you comfortable, while Sorbet is a little more composed. But no less deranged, really.

Both of their first instincts is violence, in different ways.

Ahhhh so I have to admit I have been working on something, it's a very big project for me.

It's 30 000 words long as of now, and I estimate to be about 1/2 - 2/3 of the way through the story. I'm super excited about it, however I don't want to get to a point where I'm almost done and don't finish, which is why I am writing it so much.

Here's a snippet from Chapter 3 (spoilers ahead)

“Here,” Tenzin said, passing Lin a notice.

“So secretive,” Kya joked, pretending to lean over.

“It's not that secret,” Tenzin said, “two more came forward getting letters, bringing the total to-”

“Forty-nine.” Lin finished. The names added to the list weren't familiar to her. An Earth Republic mayor, and a fire nation general. “Something tells me there's one more out there,” Lin said.

“You think? An even 50?”

“Stopping at forty-nine would be good thinking on their end,” Kya said, “I mean, it would have everyone worried over the 50th letter, which doesn't exist.” She elaborated.

Lin raised an eyebrow, shrugging it off.

“What are the odds they get out anyway?” Kya asked.

“You mean the dirt?” Lin clarified.

“Yeah. Are the threats… real? Do you think they actually know something, or is it… broad enough to make yo- people think they did something.”

“Well we've bounced around that idea for a while,” Lin said, “but I think the general consensus was that… they were a little too close for comfort.” She looked to Tenzin, whose harrowing eyes reflected the anxieties of her own.

Her own letter bounced around in the back of brain, waiting to be unpacked. She had divulged so much into dealing with the case, and worrying about Suyin, she hadn't put much thought into how she would deal with the information revealed by her letter.

What she would do.

What she would say.

She didn't inherently think she had anything to be ashamed of, but there were plenty others who wouldn't see it that way.

It would be career ending, perhaps enough to chase her out of town in search of a fresh start.

If Suyin was still alive, Zaofu could make for a nice retirement place.

“Excuse me for a moment,” she said, getting up. She made for the bathroom down the hall, but instead opened the window at the end of the hall.

Delicately, and with precision, even in her wine-induced stupor, she climbed outside, hanging onto the ledge.

She'd done it a thousand times in her teen years. Scaling the air temple had been a right of passage, and a necessity, when she was with Tenzin.

It was second nature to her as she hauled herself to the upper floor.

Luckily, the window wasn't locked and she got back inside with ease.

She walked quietly down the hall, praying she didn't wake the kids. It was as she remembered. Almost nothing had changed, and a strange wave of deja vu overcame her.

It ended when she entered the left door, and not the right.

Kya's room was one she hadn't been in much, especially as she got older. It looked as she had envisioned. It was tasteful and colorful. Lin envied her ability to pick out pictures and tapestries of varied colors, still managing to make them go together.

First she checked the nightstand, which had a lot of interesting things, but nothing she was looking for.

She checked the duffle bag on the chair, nothing but clothes and towels.

She sighed, looking around.

She noticed the bed was lifted slightly off the floor. Tenzin used to keep… stuff under his bed.

Perhaps these airhead all thought alike.

She got on her knees before laying herself gently onto her stomach.

She outstretched an arm under the bed, feeling around until her palm landed on a box.

She pulled it out, and allowed herself to stand up before setting it on the bed and opening it.

The unmistakable waxy green seal.

The inky handwriting on the back with a clear name designation.

The clear indication that it had been open and removed multiple times.

She held it in her hand, her fingers frozen.

Starting off this blog with a fabulous fic called Secret Flame. It's by the amazing author ObsessedBee (@obsessedbee) and it's one of the first fics I read for the Ninjago fandom. Definitely one of my favorites of all time too, not just because of that.

It's a bit more mature and has explicit themes, but it never has anything more explicit than some spicy making out. It just talks about sex which can be uncomfortable for people.

Another warning is that it has themes of both internalized and externalized homophobia. It also touches on a queer character's relationship with religion and his identity. The fic doesn't revolve around this, though, and it overall isn't too intense, but it's something to be aware of. Just read the tags and stuff.

Anyways. It's a Lava fic, a ship of Cole and Kai. It's so cute and it makes the paring work so well. This fic actually made me fall in love with these two as a couple. They feel written true to canon with only a little twist on them to make them more realistic and human.

The author did an amazing job with this whole fic. And, even though its been a hot second since I last read it, this fic is still on my mind. I think about it and reference it frequently.

Something I loved about this is that it's a really well done No Powers AU. Usually I hate reading AUs. I'm a canon divergence lover. But this is one of the few AU fics I've read and absolutely loved. So don't be scared away by the AU or No Powers ness of it. It's not all that bad!!!

Super cute, love this couple, does an amazing job with some of the heavier themes. 10/10.

(also I love Zane in this, he's so fun. All the characters are so absolutely fantastic and amazing and perfect, but especially him.)

winning, losing, timelines, and tying these ideas into the end of the show.

first this is insane:

both lucas and el waking up to someone telling them the same thing

and lucas coming out of the "WINNERS ONLY" door literally

and lucas and el both being "benchwarmers" then winning big out of nowhere. but then they don't really "win" bc el is still in the "circle" that brenner drew for her and doesn't want her to leave (making el go through a simulation of what didn't actually happen etc.) and lucas walks out and is disappointed to see the party after a dnd match instead of his game.

and then lucas being the imposter with the basketball team by pretending to be one of them the whole time/being the only one dressed differently. like el in nina pretending everything happened the way it did/her in lenora lying about what's happening and pretending everything is fine.

lucas here is similar to el wanting to fit in in the lab/lenora

?????? things to be different ???? now we have that chance ???? oh like el in nina ??? in a timeline that isn't the one the current el we are watching is from???? or like just shifting timelines in general in this show maybe in s5???? also i already was thinking about the possibility that brenner put el in nina to literally change the past/to combine timelines like maybe el doing what she did in nina had an effect on reality itself like i think that would be super interesting.

also "skip tonight" ?? "how much time did you skip?" like

also erica says "i'm 11" and she's a sub for her sibling so it seems like to me they're further hinting that el is a sub in nina ?? el taking place of her "twinner" and experiencing what that version of her experienced in a different timeline .

also have a post here about how el is a twin according to continuity that i think we should talk about more bc it's right there.

and the whole swapping places concept is so huge in this whole show and they include it in so many dynamics.

fred says about the game when he sees the tigers starting to fall behind: "looks like my headline has a shot" (different outcome/timeline) like the nina project failing/ending the way it did possibly changed the timelines in reality or something similar ?

there's also so much talk about moving dates or getting them like

like brenner with his whole arsenal of videotapes with so many dates and he captured "every success and every failure." like there's a specific tape or date of significance. and like i said here, maybe this date or tape didn't exist yet or something ?? and they have to obtain it in a way ?? birthdaygate or something of the sort methinks.......

also brenner telling el how superheroes and monsters are a thing of myth and fairytale and "reality, truth, is rarely so simple. people are not so easily defined."

(even though it's ironic bc it's coming from the true "monster" of the show) but it's true, reality is based somewhere in the middle of those two definitions. just like succeeding or failing at something. sometimes you don't fail or succeed but a secret third thing !!!!! and i'm betting that this:

is also in the same vein. but the interesting part is that hopper with this compromise still gets home late. it's like even a compromise/half win isn't always the case either. sometimes it's completely out of your control what happens.

ANYWAYS so this whole concept of someone "winning" but then not "truly" winning all reminds me of heroes. i'm starting to think the "we could be heroes just for one day" is more about being heroes in one timeline at the end of the show or something, bc obviously an ending where everything is perfect and they defeat the evil is not where it's going.

and how joyce closes the door in the last shot of s3 with the song playing, to me it feels like a representation of the end of the show, but also of the UD because i believe the UD is a once alive timeline that got cut off from continuing. maybe at the end they say goodbye to the place they lived their whole lives (their own timeline) and move on to a different one together where things are different but they're all alive and with e/o. they will be heroes and win but just literally for one day/momentarily because it's not going to be a normal win.

(i also have had this fucked up thought for a while that the UD is what remains after them losing the s5 battle and their battle takes place in the past but also the future somehow idk ignore me lmao)

anyways and the first time heroes plays in 1x03 is when you as a viewer see undeniable evidence that will is alive since joyce talked to him, but then you see his body and get confused. you don't know yet if will is really alive or not, you don't know what timeline you're in.

and joyce knows she just talked to will and saw a monster coming out of the wall, and mike knows he saw will's body. it's like two things are true at once.

"the shame was on the other side" and they cut from mike and karen's hug to jonathan and joyce's hug. i wonder if they'll realize theres nothing they can do to like. stop the parallel universes/outcomes and some characters will end up in different timelines than the others or something like either way the ending is going to be oh so bittersweet.

something that's always always caught my attention though is in 1x03 it cuts to black on the last word "day". but in 3x09 the line ends and then it fades to black from the empty byer's house. almost like slowly unveiling something/letting us see a tiny bit more. pulling back the curtain a teeeny tiny bit.

hopefully this was comprehensible since it's a little all over the place but this is my fav type of stuff to think about about this show heheh

Weeeeell anyway, howdy! I'm Maddie, I go by Kit online sometimes, you can call me whichever you prefer. She/Her pronouns only, please. On my YouTube, I usually make reviews or video essays about games I like, though I occasionally do stuff on other media as well. Currently, my big long-term projects are the "Splatoon 3 vs Splatoon 2" series, which is AAAAALMOST finished at the time of writing this, and my series on Leilani Wilson's Elancia Chronicles novels, (which are REALLY FREAKING GOOD and you should check them out!) I've linked a few of the videos I'm proudest of down below :)

I also stream pretty frequently on Twitch! I have a PNGtuber of my fursona, Stormy, with art done by EmmalemmaMewmew on Twitter. Stills of her will also start showing up in my YouTube videos eventually, hehe. Currently, the schedule is every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with each day being a different game. These streams always start at 7 PM Mountain Time (that's 9 PM Eastern and 6 PM Pacific) and go for around 4 hours. Sundays are Splatoon Sundays, currently the Anarchy Challenge, where I attempt to win an Anarchy Series with EVERY SINGLE WEAPON in Splatoon 3. It's hell lol. Then there's Triple-A Tuesdays, where I'm currently marathoning the Zelda series, and Indie Thursdays, where I work through my back catalog of indie games! There are also occasional bonus streams, usually around the releases of new games I'm interested in or events in ones I already play (like Splatfests!) What is your favorite series of games? Maybe it's something from your childhood that you still keep up with, like The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy. It's nice to have something you can look forward to every few years to bring you comfort. I wanna ask though, what about the smaller series that haven't gotten new entries in a long time. I'm sure we all have that one series that we just want to get one more game, only for it to never happen. Let's talk about that, because I think the longevity of a series has quite the impact on how people view it. I have three examples to get into.

One of my childhood favorite franchises, one that I still love to this day, is Pokemon. I still love going back to older games, I have a great time with them. As someone who has an attachment to Pokemon though, it's been disheartening watching it deteriorate over the last few years. It's no secret that every game to come out in the last decade has been very divisive. Starting around 2019 the decline in quality has been undeniable. It gets to a point where it's hard to see Pokemon as one entity spanning nearly 30 years. I can't help but see a split, where at a certain point it stopped being what I loved. I see some good Pokemon experiences on one hand and corporate messes in the other, where rushing games out for the sake of keeping the money flowing for a giant multimedia franchise is all that matters, and nobody wants that for any series the they're attached to.

The next series I wanna bring up is Klonoa. Namco so badly wanted this little guy to be their golden child and it's so weird to look back on. The original Klonoa games were a case of a great idea coming out at the wrong time. While they have a cult following now, they came out during the big push for 3D games, which all mascot platformers were switching to. These games were 2.5D and prioritized having an engaging story above everything else. Let's be honest. At the time, most people, especially kids, didn't want that.

In my opinion, Klonoa 2 is a perfect sequel, and is so emotionally impactful that it'd be really tough to follow up on it. However, even though the game bombed, Namco really wanted this to be their big mascot IP, so what did they do? They formed a dev team specifically for making Klonoa games, all of which were handheld entries, plus a console sports spinoff. I hate this, so much. These games go against everything the original games were about, by throwing out any semblance of an interesting story and completely ignoring what story was in the originals, to do whatever they wanted with a big cast of characters. Big surprise, none of these games did well, and Klonoa died off with a whimper. While I'm glad that Klonoa didn't keep getting bad games in a desperate attempt to keep it alive, this still isn't ideal. We have two wonderful games that we can look back on fondly, and then a handful of handheld games that don't feel like they belong at all. I would honestly prefer if these other games weren't made and Klonoa just went out with dignity. It wasn't selling anyway so at least the only games that we had would've been good.

Finally, I wanna bring up my favorite series of games ever made: Mother, or Earthbound in the states. This is a trilogy of games that, while not as huge as Nintendo's other IP, have quite the following! Rereleases or remakes are a topic of discussion quite often with these games. The Mother series is the passion project of Shigesato Itoi, who shares ownership of the series with Nintendo, and as such we only ever got the three games. He directed them and with Nintendo's support, made a trilogy of games that so many people love, even with the final entry never being officially released outside of Japan. After the release of Mother 3, there has been absolutely nothing for the series outside of merchandise and appearances in Super Smash Bros. To me, there is something incredibly satisfying in experiencing a series from beginning to end, and soaking in the reality that what you just experienced was the complete package, there will be nothing else. Mother 3 ends in a way where following it up would be basically impossible and I love that. I can always look back on these three games with nothing but love and admiration.

I hope what I'm saying makes sense. There's absolutely nothing wrong with ongoing series that people look forward to. I'm a big Metroid fan myself so I'd be a hypocrite if I said otherwise. My point is, we don't always need media we love to go on forever regardless of quality. With the passage of time, it's infinitely more satisfying, to me anyway, to look back on a short series where all of it meant something to you.

Marvel Television Ranking (Disney+ era)

Someone asked me which Marvel shows are worth watching and I made a whole post about it. I watched all of them so you don't have to!

You Should Watch:

WandaVision - This show suffers from Marvel's need to have a final CGI battle (the final episode is let down from the previous). But it's Marvel's best use of the TV format. The emotions of it are so strong and it is genuinely a watchable sitcom in places. And it makes you believe that young girl would fuck that robot in a way Infinity War didn't really do.

2. Loki Season One -- There are a few middle episodes that feel slow in this series, but overall this is probably the best one in terms of consistency. Also high concept, with a strong ensemble. Season Two is fine but would be in a lower tier.

3. Ms Marvel - It's a good stand alone show and Marvel does not seem to be backing down on Iman Vellani being central to the MCU going forward (even though the Marvels was poorly received). So you need to know Kamala and also you're welcome because she's adorable.

These Are Good Shows If You Have Time:

4. Hawkeye - It's not as good as the Fraction run in the comics it is based on and it starts a bit slow, but once Echo shows up it's fun. Plus it's a Christmas theme!

5. Avengers 97 - It was my jam as a kid. It's still my jam as an adult. Not really for children though. I am bummed I can't show it to my nephews (character death, genocide, oddly sexualized Magneto, the whole comics shebang).

6. Moon Knight - If you like hippo goddesses and watching Oscar Isaac act with himself, this is the show for you. So far this series has not connected to the wider MCU in any way. The stand-alone-ness of this series is both a strength and a weakness. You can just watch it! But if you are looking to advance the "overall" plot of the MCU then this could feel "pointless" to some. (I'd argue the hippo is the point.)

These Shows Have Issues

7. She Hulk: Attorney at Law: Dudebros on the internet will make you think this is the worst thing Marvel has ever done and that is not the case. But it is hit or miss, and the comedy is women-centric. I actually prefer the more comedic sitcom moments (like the episode in the yurt). You also have to be able to watch bad CGI a lot; it's like they didn't have time to finish it which is probably what really happened. I grew up in the 90s so I have no problem with wonky CGI.

8. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - I really wanted to like this because Red, White and Black was one of those comics that you read and thought, "of course. This is what would've happened." But mostly it's a let down. Plot points were changed due to the pandemic and it is... noticeable. Anyway, Carl Lumbly is great and if you just want to watch his scenes, then I wouldn't judge you.

9. What If...? I like this one but it feels super skippable. It's like the thing for people who want more Marvel all the time when the culture is dealing with Marvel overload. (Yes, I watched all of it.) I do want to see Jeffrey Wright in live action soon though.

Just NO.

10. Echo -- Very sad to say this because I think the impulse to give Alaqua Cox (she is a disabled, indigenous actress who had never been on TV before) more to do after her debut in Hawkeye was a generous one. But this wasn't thought out enough as it needed to be.

11. Secret Invasion -- It hurts me that this was bad. Luckily Samuel L. Jackson is a pro at being good in bad projects. Simply watching Olivia Coleman's scenes on YouTube would be more satisfying than the show.

I have been noticing things, and I don't know what to make of them, so I am bringing them to you, because you have been blessed/cursed by Apollo's dodgeball and are also great at connecting dots. I apologise.

I am worried about Buck's lungs. His sats dropped when he was in a coma, to the point of needing ECMO, but during his recovery we only saw him see a cardiologist, no respiratory rehab was mentioned. Now his PT scores are down. The show has also been weirdly pointed about focusing on sats monitors being put on people's fingers during calls. They've done it on at least 3 of the calls since Buck's been back, and at no point have the people's sats been mentioned - even the woman face down in dough, who was started on oxygen. That in itself isn't a big deal - they're a quick way of getting a heartrate, and its standard practice to put one on. But why keep showing them? Then this week, Maddie had the call with the kid where she had to remind him how to breathe.

So, what do you think? Is there anything there, or am I projecting because I'm having to have respiratory physio after covid?

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more unhinged! No, there is DEFINITELY something there and I'm not gonna be normal about it. There are a couple of different places my mind went to (because it's not just Buck, Eddie's in this too) so apologies if this is scattered:

Buck + Death is the big overarching theme looming over Buck's healing journey. Buck's life has been about Death since before he was even born, when he was conceived to be a savior baby...and was a match...but Daniel still died anyway. And Buck has been running towards Death ever since, seeking it out, courting it like a lover without even realizing why, never knowing that Daniel's ghost was haunting him. He has internalized so completely this idea that his value is entirely dependent on what he can do for others, on how much he can sacrifice, can give, up to and including his own life. The fact that the problem was Buck's lungs in the episode where he was reckoning with Daniel for the first time while trapped in his subconscious mind was inspired and a huge callback to Buck Begins, after Buck first learned about Daniel, with Buck in the warehouse fire taking off his mask and telling the guy he was trying to save that he would just hold his breath. And Buck's been holding his breath in a sense ever since. Spiraling. Stagnating. Regressing. He quit therapy. He trapped himself for a year in a soulless relationship because he was already depressed but then the shooting happened and Eddie basically told him he wasn't allowed to keep trying to kill himself, taking away one of his main self-harming coping mechanisms (passive suicidality brushed off by telling himself he's actually helping people), all of that.

There are also the crush injuries surrounding him (which I wrote about in 6A as being super sus). Thomas and Mitchell and a car accident crush injury, the first call where Buck begins explicitly associating romantic love with death. Buck being crushed under the ladder truck, which ultimately led to the blood clots and a pulmonary embolism because he wouldn't let himself rest and recover, wouldn't let himself heal or slow down, because he was too focused on getting back to work where he could (in his mind) be useful, be worth something, could save lives. And he admitted then that he didn't know what/who he was without the job, and ironically almost torched all of his relationships with the people who love him regardless in order to get back to it. And then of course there's also Lev. Lev trying to find the secrets to happiness but instead being crushed to death by a walkway that collapsed because the hotel identified the problem but never made the repairs. And it was through him that Buck started thinking that he could find all the answers he's been looking for in death.

But...Buck died. Actually died. And despite his joke about his math powers and being the guy with the answers, he doesn't have them all.

At the end of 6x11, he took a breath. He took a step. He allowed himself a little bit of self-awareness, of self-reflection, he dipped his toe into the water of the root trauma that has led him to all the others. But he's awake now, and what has he done? By all accounts it looks like exactly what he's done every other time/like he's falling back into the same bad habits. He let his mom steamroll him into getting him a couch that he didn't want. He threw himself back into work as soon as he could and keeps trying to brush off the fact that he went through a serious trauma (physical/mental/emotional) to the point that the people who love him have to keep reminding him that he literally died. He has the tools he needs to heal, but isn't actually taking the steps to get there. And, as you point out, they're potentially foreshadowing that there are still problems with his lungs that may still get worse.

Because Buck is, at heart, one big crush injury. He has been suffocating under the weight of trauma after trauma since he was born, conceived in grief and then discarded. He has been suffocating under the weight of hiding his true feelings from others (up to and including hiding them from himself) and leaving so many necessary things unsaid. But it also makes me think about Eddie and Home Invasion and the call at Marisol's and everything that I've been saying about insulation as protection but too much protection stifling you so much that you can't breathe. Buck being "the settler" in romantic relationships because he can't get hurt (at least not as badly) if he's not actually attached to the relationship, never going after/asking for what he really wants. Eddie being his own variation on "the fugitive" always running from the things that he's most afraid of. Both of them trying desperately to protect their hearts from getting broken and instead ending up in a place where they are both always dying...

Idk, there's something about Buck + Death and Eddie + Fear and Buck constantly suffocating vs. Eddie drowning, and Buck starting the season not wanting to make the same mistakes but also possibly "misunderstanding the assignment" with this death doula, and water finding its level...yeah...yeah...

Synopsis: Some general headcanons of mine for MCU’s Shuri Udaku!

Warnings: Some BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER spoilers if you haven't watched the movie

A/N: Before I drop my Shuri fic on Friday, I think it'd only wise I share my headcanons for our queen <3 These headcanons will cover Black Panther 1 and 2 with hints to events such as the Blip since I haven’t seen that movie.

Black Panther…

In BP1, we see Shuri has a playful, mischievous, know-it-all aura around her. She isn’t afraid to let people know what she’s thinking, and takes fun in pulling pranks on her older brother and close friends (excluding Okoye. NEVER Okoye. She learned that the hard way).

She has basic defense and offense training, as she’s able to wield a spear and hold her on in sparring. However, she doesn’t like the spear as she doesn’t see it as versatile enough, which has led her to start tinkering in the realm of weapons. She’s always trying to pitch new weapon ideas to Okoye, but she always shoots them down with a history lesson on why the spears are important to the Dora Milaje. Though that hasn’t and will not stop Shuri from trying to change the General’s mind.

Shuri wasn’t always a morning person. In her youth, she hated getting up super early for training practice and family matters. But by persuasion from her father, T’Chaka, she slowly started to come around to the idea of being an early bird. The deal was if she woke up she’d be able to fiddle around in the science lab before her training. Now, even though her training is not required anymore, she’ll still wake up at the ass crack of dawn to get her day started.

She has a playlist for everything, but she has one specifically tailored to when she’s in the lab, and also what projects she’s working on at the moment. It’s loaded with hella afro beats, some just instruments, others songs from artists like Burna Boy, Koffee, WizKid, Tems, and more. The beats help her focus and act as guides for how she moves around the lab.

Whenever she’s in America with T’Challa, she’s always dragging him to the nearest name brand store like Adidas, Nike, Snipes, etc. Not even to buy things sometimes, it’ll just be to critique the style of clothing, and how she could definitely design better (though T’Challa does end up carrying a bag for her with some shoes, because she always has to get a new pair of kicks when they land in the states.

Even though she’s older and can do her hair on her own, she loves to let her mother do her hair. Ramonda playfully complains that she’s getting older and her hands can’t braid like they used to, but she agrees anyway as it’s one of the times they can actually sit and bond outside of their royal statuses. Shuri puts on some music or an American movie she likes, and they sit and talk and catch up on things they missed while being away from each other.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever…

It’s no secret that T’Challa’s death had changed Shuri forever. She’s much quieter than before, living in her head, reminiscing the days that her brother was still beside her.

She retreats to her lab more than ever, subjecting herself to long hours and little sleep, trying to distract herself from the truth. To keep her hands and her mind busy meant she didn’t have to close her eyes and see her brother’s face.

Much of her time is spent researching the heart shaped herb. She analyzes the remains of roots that were salvaged from the fire, pairing them with the samples of the herb within T’Challa’s DNA, but it barely gets her half way there to completing the synthesization of the herb. Unfortunately, her frustrations are taken out on the laboratory staff, and while she does apologize profusely to them, it’s become common knowledge to stay clear of the Princess when they see the holographic screen of the heart shaped herb in view.

Sometimes, Shuri will go and sit in his room, touch the items left behind, imagine that he’s still there. The first few months after his death, Ramonda has caught her sleeping in his room, surrounded in his covers, his pillows, dawning one of his sweatshirts, curled up in fetal position. She had no doubt Shuri had cried herself to sleep there. And Ramonda could not blame her as she too spent time in that room remembering her son. Sometimes she’ll leave the princess be, but on a few occasions, she’s slept in there with her.

If T’Challa’s death had Shuri feeling too much, her mother’s death had her feeling nothing. Numb. All her emotions were buried with the last person who truly knew her.

In public, she has to keep up a straight face, but in private, she’s hysterical. She doesn’t know whether to laugh, cry, lash out, curl into a ball, burn everything within sight. Anything and everything is an enemy to her when she’s in this state, and she will not hesitate to treat an unsuspecting palace staff member or Dora Milaje warrior as such. It’s best when the princess has returned to her chambers, to leave her there, and under no circumstances, disrupt her.

It’s only after hearing her mothers voice again, during her fight with Namour, that Shuri begins to have some semblance of a healing journey. In seeing N’Jadaka in the Ancestral Plane, her rage was validated by her deceased cousin, of which bore a similar pain. It was only when she came to terms with her rage and anger, that she could then begin to move forward, and in turn, offer Namour the option of surrender instead of killing him.

The world had taken too much from her for Shuri to be considered a child. No, she was a woman, queen-presumptive of Wakanda, and through the death of her family, she has learned many things.

It’s been advised that Shuri develops a relationship with Bast, as she is the new Black Panther, and would need guidance from the past mantle-holders in order to be the best possible protector Wakanda needs. She isn’t sure if she can - unsure if practicing a faith she had been estranged to since childhood and her livelihood as a scientist can coexist harmoniously. But for her people, her friends, and herself, she has to try.

And Beyond…

As queen-presumptive, Shuri spends a lot of time in preparation for her coronation. She appoints M’Baku as interim ruler in the meantime, to not leave the throne empty and also as a way to integrate the Jabari tribe back into Wakanda. She understands that she isn’t in the right mental state to rule, and M’Baku, despite his brutish demeanor, only cares for what’s best for Shuri.

In her time away from the throne she often visits her nephew in Haiti, developing a relationship with him, telling him stories of his father and grandparents, and it’s through him that Shuri slowly but surely returns to her old self again. Toussaint brings the light back into her eyes, and solidifies the belief of her people that death is never the end. Because whenever she looks at Toussaint, she sees her brother.

Shuri keeps in contact with Riri via a discrete version of the kimoyo beads, disguised in a silver band that she gave the younger scientist before she left Wakanda. They talk frequently about the projects they are working on, and Shuri has even given advice to Riri for rebuilding her Ironheart suit since the original still sits in the lab.

Shuri takes time throughout the week to visit the people of the capitol. They know her as the genius princess who has developed everything they use in daily life, but Shuri wants her people to know her on a more personal level. She’ll go out to the market, visit schools, and even holds virtual tours of her lab for aspiring scientists.

When she finds herself down, Shuri takes walks. Doesn’t matter where, doesn’t matter when, she’ll just walk to clear her head. Around the palace, around the lab, up Mt. Bashenga, through the city streets. It makes for a hard time for Okoye to keep track of her.

Besides Toussaint, Nakia, Okoye, Riri, those within her most inner circle, Shuri tends to keep new relationships at an arm's length. It’s a defense mechanism - she doesn’t want to get hurt again if someone new comes along in her life and ends up leaving. It’s something she’s working on. But through time, patience and understanding, Shuri will open up. Just be there for her. That’s all she really needs right now.
