I'm making a spreadsheet of how the mp100 characters refer to each other and the realization I'm coming to is that the kageyama parents must have really ingrained etiquette into their sons bc these two are really big on referring to people politely

[Image one: The first page of a digital comic about Kageyama Shigeo. It depicts his shoes, messily tied, standing over the corpse of a cat. Blood trails from the feline to his trainers, a shocking red. This page has the line "to dead cat: using a shocking event".
Image two: The final page of a digital comic about Kageyama Shigeo. He is drawn with one hands splayed out, like he normally poses when using his psychic abilities. However, there is no energy on the air, even if his hair is standing up. His eyes are obscured by a deep shadow, and blood runs heavily down his face. This page continues the previous line with "to distract from something much much worse". The last word, which is jagged and messy, leads into a simple red hand, that of Mogami. It looks like blood. And finally, in front of this hand, there's a crow, ominously staring straight at the viewer.]

haikyuu!! + thanksgiving
the hq men as your boyfriend when you bring them home at thanksgiving for the first time
because thanksgiving is in a couple weeks! ik not all of us celebrate it but just pretend LOL
Tumblr media
karasuno
sugawara koushi: marches into your kitchen wearing a little red apron and brandishing a spatula. the only thing he can really do is open the cranberry sauce and plate it, but he certainly looks very cute while doing so.
azumane asahi: eats two bowls of vanilla ice cream for dessert. is also violently lactose intolerant. you do the math.
nishinoya yuu: sprays this God-awful fruity cologne all over himself and walks into the house smelling like princess peach’s asshole. you force him to sit outside until it wears off. (spoiler alert: it doesn’t.)
hinata shouyo: frantically rakes up all the leaves in your yard into a huge pile and rolls around in it. later finds out he is in fact allergic to leaves and uses up an entire bottle of cortisone cream trying to soothe his hives. your relatives all think he has chicken pox and interact with him minimally.
kageyama tobio: comes early to help with the cooking— your mom makes him stuff the turkey and he nearly cries when he has to stick his hand in.
sawamura daichi: gets to talking with your dad and you almost have a heart attack when you see them on the couch in identical slouched positions with beers in hand-- they’re practically twins. starts calling you “pumpkin” and “peanut” after the encounter.
tanaka ryunosuke: gives a loud, tipsy toast to “the pilgrims and their funky little hats” after a couple drinks.
yamaguchi tadashi: ran a turkey trot 5k earlier in the morning with you. his entire body is sore— he can’t even sit down without tearing up so he lies face down on your living room carpet for most of the night.
tsukishima kei: literally disappears an hour into dinner and doesn’t pick up his phone. the next day you find out he left to get takeout down the street instead and just never came back.
Tumblr media
nekoma
kozume kenma: ends up quietly sitting at the kids’ table for some unknown reason?? it’s chill though; he teaches them how to make handprint turkeys.
haiba lev: also tries to sit at the kids’ table, but they’re understandably terrified of his gigantic 6’4” self and run away when he approaches. it really hurts his feelings and he spends the rest of the night sulking.
kuroo tetsurou: announces he unironically voted for kanye and subsequently gets into a vicious political argument with your drunk uncle. 20 minutes later they’re singing a tearful rendition of “danny boy” with their arms around each other’s shoulders.
morisuke yaku: rants about how much he hates british people.
inuoka sou: pretends to be british.
Tumblr media
shiratorizawa
ushijima wakatoshi: walks in with the stage presence of a greek god, gives your mom a huge bouquet of peonies, and thanks her for allowing him to come to dinner. she nearly faints.
tendou satori: wears a bow tie and a monocle. your mom introduces him to the family as your gay best friend— it’s not a great night for him.
semi eita: compliments your grandma’s hair cut. two hours later she’s sitting next to him with an album in hand, showing him all your embarrassing baby pictures. yes, including the naked ones.
tsutomu goshiki: drinks three hard ciders without realizing they’re alcoholic and ends up very giggly and very touchy-- and not just to you. you take him home early.
shirabu kenjirou: shows up two hours late, pretends he’s been there the entire time, and acts offended when your relatives don’t remember him.
Tumblr media
aoba johsai
oikawa tooru: charms every single woman at the party in true oikawa fashion. at the end of the night your newly divorced aunt slips him a piece of paper with her number on it. he reassures you he isn’t going to call her-- but he also doesn’t throw it away.
iwaizumi hajime: your brother-in-law challenges him to an arm wrestling contest. iwa crushes him five times in a row without batting an eye and gives him a very respectful thumbs up afterwards.
hanamaki takahiro: makes friends with that weird third cousin who no one really knows but just kinda shows up. you see them making a secret handshake.
matsukawa issei: everyone actually loves him, but for some reason they all think he’s an accountant. has he been telling them he’s an accountant??
kunimi akira: literally just pets the cat the whole night. ignores anyone who tries to talk to him unless they’re feline.
Tumblr media
inarizaki
miya atsumu: he ends up gossiping with all your chatty aunties. when it’s time to go home he knows about fifty years of family secrets and enough blackmail material to last him a lifetime. scared? you should be.
miya osamu: truly God’s gift to thanksgiving, everything suga wishes he could be. owns a “kiss the cook” apron (that he bought for himself) and makes five types of boujee hors d'oeuvres. every single relative at the dinner tells you to marry him.
kita shinsuke: helps you mash the potatoes. you try to not ogle his biceps while he does so, but it’s very, very difficult. wipe that drool from the corner of your mouth-- it’s embarrassing.
suna rintarou: arrives wearing all black designer clothing, a luxury watch, and a haughty expression-- the perfect trophy boyfriend. your cousin says she thinks she saw him on a calvin klein ad last week. he tells her it was actually louis vuitton.
Tumblr media
fukurodani
akaashi keiji: handwrites all the name cards in beautiful calligraphy the day before and brings a big bundle of dahlias and baby’s breath for floral centerpieces-- you’re pretty sure your mom would rather have him as a daughter instead.
bokuto koutarou: gets involved in the thanksgiving football game with your male cousins. he scores 75% of his team’s points and by the end of it they’re chanting his name and carrying him around the field; you have to deal with god-complex bokuto for the next week and a half.
konoha akinori: your dog will not stop humping his leg. he tries to stop it but there’s really no dignified way to do that, so he just suffers in silence.
Tumblr media
date tech
futakuchi kenji: pulls you into the cleaning supply closet while everyone else is going for seconds. your little cousin comes in looking for paper towels and catches the two of you in a compromising position-- oh, well. it’s about time someone gave that kid the talk, anyways.
koganegawa kanji: accidentally clogs the toilet and has a near panic attack trying to unclog it before it overflows.
aone takanobu: surprisingly good at chess and plays several games with your great uncle while he talks about the war
Tumblr media
other
terushima yuuji: after dessert he proudly ties a cherry stem in a knot with his tongue, hoping it’ll impress the table. it does not.
sakusa kiyoomi: doesn’t show up. i’m sorry, but let’s be real-- did you ever really expect him to?

The Villianess who lived
Tumblr media
Chapter one
“ And for the crimes of trying to harm another noble not only in public but in the vicinity of the royal family I summon you to death Y/n Villarreal.” The executioner’s voice boomed through the crowd of people gather in town square.
The one accused of the Horrendous crime was nothing more than a young girl, but not just any girl the daughter of Duke Villarreal who had just been beheaded this moment in an attempt to save his beloved daughter. Though she was vain and jealous of the baron's daughter for managing to steal her love the first prince, poisoning tea wasn’t her thing. Speaking of her beloved first prince, Tooru Oikawa was the one who sentenced her to this harsh death. He loved Maryanne Barlowe and not y/n, only being engaged to her for political advantage to be the crowned prince. He watched from his seat a daunting smirk on his face, his hatred for the girl ran deep to the point where the announcement of her death made him chuckle.
Next to him stood his best friend and personal knight Hajime Iwaizumi wearing his usual poker face. Though she was annoying with her unexplained love for the one he served and her cruel attitude towards women, the knight didn’t believe she deserved this punishment.
And on his other side sat Maryanne Barlowe the eighth and youngest child of the Baron, known as the sunflower of high society thanks to her friendly attitude she used to social climb. No one saw her as a threat due to her title, but now she would be the future empress. Soon she would reveal her true self as this was all an act for her, from pretending to be nice and weak to poisoning her own drink at a tea party Y/n hosted.
Y/n’s eyes shook with rage, hatred soared. Everything was taken from her, she was an accused villainess whose only real crime was falling for the wrong man who thought of her as a disposable object. “Any last words Lady Villarreal?” Tooru said standing from his seat, making sure he could get a good view of her in her last moments.
“ I hope that in my next life, I’ll be the one to place your head on a stick and parade it around the capital.” She still held her head high as if she wasn’t who just defamed the future self-proclaimed king.
He let out a loud chuckle that would send chills down anyone’s spine, “ Those who have sinned don’t get a next life, I hope the heavens forgive you my dear.” To think the only time he called her my dear was in a sinister setting. He nodded his head as cue for the executioner to do his job, “ May your damned soul find peace in the after life.” He whispered before swinging the sword down.
Her throat felt cold and burned as she shot up in her bed holding her throat letting out a scream of terror. “ My Lady are you okay?” Her personal maid Olivia burst through the double doors of her room. Y/n looked around horrified, she was back in her room. And Olivia was alive and well? This couldn’t be, the maid had died after taking the fall saying she had poured the tea thinking it would save her master.
“ I-I’m fine, how old am I?” It all felt too real to be a dream, was she given a second chance? Or was this the peacefulness of the afterlife being with the ones she loves? “ You’re about to turn 17 in a week, are you sure that you’re okay? You look pale and sweaty my lady.” The maid worried checking her head for fever or any signs of one. She was interrupted when Y/n pulled her down into a hug.
“ I’m fine Liv, I’m just happy to see you that’s all.” The young girl was never this gentle on any subject but that prince. Ah, that bastard who dared to cross her after devoting her life and body to him. She had a year until her death so she hadn’t done anything stupid yet. But to change her fate she had to change the future. “ What’s my schedule for today?” She hummed, if they wanted a villainess she would play the part but for her own benefit.
Olivia looked at y/n like she had lost her mind, “ You’re having tea with the first prince, you had to wait a whole month to get him to agree since he said he was busy.” Ah, that was right Tooru did all he could do to ignore and shun his betrothed. What a cowardly man, she thought getting out of bed.
“ I want to wear a light orange dress today, the more innocent the better. I’ve got a crow to catch.” She smiled to herself as sat in front of her vanity. Her maid was distraught by the sudden change of dress. “ But my lady! You’ve had that revealing aqua dress you were planning to wear since it’s Prince Tooru’s favorite color.” Maybe her mistress had finally lost her mind.
Y/n couldn’t help but laugh, love was such a blind curse. “ Throw it out, and anything else that color it makes me was to puke. Now pick me out something simple for breakfast so I can have breakfast with father. The maid nodded and quickly got her ready.
“ Father!” Y/n hugged the stern Duke, his face automatically softening. She hadn’t clung to him like this since he told her that he got the king to accept her engagement to Prince Tooru. “well hello to you too sweetheart, what did I do to deserve this?” He was curious, he hadn’t brought her anything over the past few days due to him being gone.
She couldn’t believe that her father was standing before her alive and well. “ Nothing I’m just glad to see you, now let’s have breakfast together before I have to go to the palace. “ she clung to his arm as they walked to the table together, she was going to make sure her father didn’t die in vain this time.
“ And we're finished, you look gorgeous Lady Y/n. No Lady’s beautiful rivals yours, the prince will definitely fall in love with you this time.” Olivia gushed at her handy work, as y/n stared at herself in the mirror astonished at her reflection. “ Olivia I will reward you when I come back home, now I must go I don’t want to be late.” She smiled making her way to her carriage, it didn’t matter if she was late or not because the prince would always arrive an hour late just to show the true distance between them. In this hour of free time she would set her plan into action.
“ Lady Villarreal.” Her knight Wakatoshi Ushijima said, holding out his hand to help her on to the carriage. “ Toshi I told you not to be so formal when no one is around, I get enough of that already.” She giggled at him taking his hand and getting on. Not only was he the best knight of the Duke but also her childhood friend.
“ My apologies lad- y/n, I’m used to you always having one of the noble ladies with you.” Those ladies weren’t here friends only using her for her high status, in the past, she was just too dumb to see but now it was clear as day.
The second she arrived at the palace she told wakatoshi to wait for her, as she wanted her alone time with the prince. Aha if only they knew which prince she was talking about. Y/n was headed to the crow garden, where the second prince Tobio Kageyama would be since it was a garden dedicated to his late mother. Once aprincess from another kingdom before becoming the empress while Tooru’s mother was only a queen. Sadly Tobio’s mother died at a young age, this palace was deadly yet somehow he was still alive. She was taking a real gamble coming here trying to meet him, it could even cost her life but whether she dies now or a year later made no difference.
The garden was filled with orange and black flowers that seemed almost otherworldly, the girl looked like she was a part of the garden with her dress blending into the flowers. No sign of the second prince at all, maybe her plan was going all to waste. The girl crouched down gently touching a flower. Just then she felt a cold sword on her shoulders threatening to cut her neck. “ Your highness prince Tobio has forbidden anyone from picking the flowers. Stand up slowly and turn to state your name.” Y/n gulped as she followed instructions meeting eyes with Shoyo Hinata, the orange-headed prince’s guard. He usually wore a playful smile but when ordered to can become deadly in seconds.
“ Lower your sword, I’m very aware of who she is. Though I have no idea why you’d show your face in this part of the palace.” A low voice ordered from behind Shoyo. prince Tobio finally came into the picture, but he didn’t look too happy.
Y/n bowed after the sudden shock, “ Glory to you your highness, may you prosper.” She spoke humbly, he was almost taken aback that she was bowing in his stead. Yes, she was in a lower position than him, but rumor had it that the duke’s daughter thought of herself as a prince who would only bow below the king and her beloved. “ You may rise, Lady Villarreal, why have you come here?”
He was itching to find out why she was here of all places, was she sent by his brother to kill him? Tobio had never formally met Y/n only the rumors that she was an evil being. There was no evil being that stood before him just a lovely woman who looked innocent. “ I’m sorry that I’ve intruded, I’ve heard about this garden since I was little but was never able to come. Also I heard that you would be here.” She tucked her hair behind her ear, with Knight Hinata still here she couldn’t reveal her true plan yet.
She came here for him? What business did she have him with anyway? Maybe he had done something to offend her, Shoyo often told him that his face was scary and made ladies cry. “ Why would I be interesting enough for the lady to come all the way here just to see me? Does my brother know that you are here?” He and everyone else knew Tooru didn’t love Y/n but if he knew one thing about his brother is that he is possessive. Just knowing that his fiancé came to see him would drive him crazy.
“ Ah I can’t say, your guard is scaring me.” She lied straight through her teeth, Tobio took the bait nodded his head to dismiss his knight. “ Now you may speak freely.” This whole encounter was strange for him and what she was about to say was even stranger.
She took a deep breath, worse comes to worse she would be sent to jail for offending royalty. “ I’m going to cancel the engagement with the first prince.” She looked up to meet his eyes that just went wide with concern and confusion.
“ Why would you do that? And why would you be telling me this as if it mattered to me?” He questioned as his eyes narrowed with suspicion, maybe she wasn’t as weak as he had thought when he saw her.
Y/n smiled as she had just won a prize, he was asking questions which was a good sign. “ Well, it’s clear that Prince Tooru doesn’t love me, and is only with me for ties to the Villarreal Dukedom. Without me lowers his chances of being king, being with Maryanne Barlowe who can’t give him a status raise will be his downfall.”
“ You know speaking of a future king while the current one is still alive is a crime right, yet you refuse to bite your tongue. Go on and continue, I’ll decide by the end of this if you’ll end up in the dungeon or not.” Tobio advised causing her to gulp, she must not falter to his empty threats.
“ My birthday ball Tooru will bring lady Maryanne instead of escorting me, excuse me but that bastard is going to embarrass me for that woman publicly. I do not wish to stay by his side, I do not wish to love anymore. So please be my escort to my birthday, I will back you and make you king. Just don’t let me die.” Her eyes began to water and gloss over which she didn’t intend to happen, the thought of repeating the past scared her.
Tobio was taken back by the sudden emotions she held, she was shaking like her life was in danger. How was her fiancé being unfaithful going to end in death? His brain swirled with theories and answers but nothing made sense. This offer was too good for him to decline also too risky in the same sense. “ Keep your word that you’re going to cancel the engagement, then I’ll send you a message on what my answer will be.” This was the only acceptable answer he could give fearing this could all be a trap, something in her eyes was crying for him to help. If Tooru did become king he was as good as dead since he had hate for Tobio. With that he left without another word, he couldn’t take in any more information at the moment.
Y/n sat in the indoor garden sipping on her tea, she had been here for two hours, her fiancé was running extra late today not that she minded. It gave her time to practice speaking calmly instead of jumping over the table and brutally murder him for the trauma he had caused from her death. When the door opened Tooru arrived with Hajime, this tea was informal as ever how did y/n of the past look forward to meeting this rude man.
“ Sorry for being late, I had some stuff to take care of. “ he sat down expecting her to whine about how she had waited so long to see him. “ I didn’t mind, I was enjoying being in my own company. I’m starting to prefer spending time with myself instead.” She said calmly not even bothering to look up from her tea.
He smirked at her attitude, he wished she was always like this instead of drooling all over him. “ Your birthday is next week, I’m guessing you’re here to ask me to escort you? I’ll be wearing blue so you have to match me.” He loved toying with her emotions and getting her hopes up, yes he would agree to go but not with her.
Y/n hated the way he was so cocky and sure of himself, “ You don’t have to worry about us matching, I’m not wearing blue at all.” She simply stated finally meeting eyes with him. “ Is this your way of telling me that you want us to wear a different color? How rude you know I love blue.” If she wanted to wear a different color he would comply since it wasn’t his party but usually she agreed with whatever he said.
“ No not us, I will be wearing a different color since you won’t be escorting me.” She dropped the bomb on him even making his knight flinch at her harsh words. Tooru most definitely thought she was playing hard to get now. “ Why wouldn’t I be? I’m your loving fiancé aren't I?” He wore a playful smirk on his face, she was going to cave in if he played the part of a lover.
She chuckled at his ignorance, he just wasn’t getting it was he? “ Prince Tooru we both know you don’t love me, and I’ve decided to stop loving you now. So why don’t we do each other a favor, and stop this? I y/n Villarreal am annulling this engagement.” She stood up from her seat shucking the prince who could only grind his teeth. Lowering herself she got close to his ear, “ Why don’t you ask Maryanne Barlowe to be your betrothed, or you might be better off marrying a commoner.” Y/n stood up straight as she made her way to the door.
Tooru could barely react in time, “ If you leave right now Y/n, I will never take you back no matter how much you or your father beg me.” He stood up quickly making his chair topple over with a slam, their was no way this weak-minded girl changed overnight.
“ Your highness please refer to me as Lady Villarreal in public from now on, I don’t want people to get weird ideas.” She smiled politely before exiting, leaving the prince to flip over the tea table in anger. Though she had escaped from that death doesn’t mean she escaped from death completely.
A/n: it took me awhile to place the characters! Thank you to everyone who submitted stuff, I’m sorry if I didn’t get to use the character you wanted but I’ll be making some headcannons for the ones y’all sent. P.s I don’t hate Oikawa at all but you can’t tell me he doesn’t play his part well lmaooo. See you next time <3

The Proposal + The Party (wip) + First Kiss (wip)
Tsukkiyama ATLA AU
I’m really proud of some of my improvements these last few months! This AU has been bouncing around in my head for ages haha so I’m slowly drawing out the story. Maybe one day I’ll properly write it! Also ik it’s unlikely for an air representative to have such fancy clothes but idc yams in flowly robes gives me life uwu also most air nomads have shaved heads but since Tadashi came from the water tribe he wouldn’t be expected to shave it until receiving his airbending mastery tattoos, which he will never receive bc he eventually defects and runs away with Kei before finishing his training. Anywho read on for more details on each piece, tho two are still in progress felt like it would be fun to post some together. Also there is a specific reason why Tsukki carved yams a betrothal necklace and not vice versa
This AU starts in Avatar Roku’s time around 20/25 years before the air nomad genocide. Tadashi and Kei were both born in the Northern Water Tribe and were childhood friends. Kei comes from a very prestigious noble water bending family, a very recognizable one at that with very uncharacteristic fair white or blond hair as a result of a strong spiritual connection central ancestors had, in addition many members are predisposed to having a powerful bond with the moon. They are a very small clan, but very powerful, and they are often found in important occupations like taking care of the spirit oasis. Akiteru is the heir to most of the family’s titles, giving Kei decent leeway to do what he wants, though there are still many expectations as a member of such a traditional clan. He will be expected to be highly educated on local and global affairs and expected to partake in a politically beneficial arranged marriage later in life as is customary in the northern tribe.
Tadashi on the other hand is an only child of a small family of no import. His mother and father ended up working for the Tsukishimas so he was around the place a lot, and being the same age meant the two became fast friends around the age of 7. Tadashi’s earnest goodnatured attitude was a candle to Kei’s more icy exterior. They become really close friends, both pariahs in their own right. Kei could be popular on his family name and his burgeoning waterbending talent, but his rude attitude and disdain for expectations make him disliked but grudgingly respected. Tadashi is derided for his lack of bending and lack of status. Before befriending Tsukki he was often picked on. Finding comfort and understanding in their odd symbiosis, they lived in their own little world.
A huge shock came to their friendship when they were 12, Tadashi discovering his airbending abilities. Turns out his mother was once an air nomad, born and raised, but with fairly weak bending abilities, thus never receiving mastery tattoos, who choose to abandon that life when she fell in love with a water tribe man when a journey threw her off course. Because marrying across nations is very uncommon and slightly stigmatized, especially during the tumultuous decade before the start of the Hundred Years’ War that marked increased division. Thus Tadashi’s mother completely abandoned her old identity in order to fully assimilate into the culture of the Northern Water Tribe and never mentioned it to her son in order to protect him from any additional scorn of being the result of a internation couple. Since her airbending abilities were so weak and her husband was a non bender she figured it would never be important.
Quite a shock when Tadashi’s abilities suddenly bloom at 12, fairly late for bending to manifest but likely a result of not growing up amidst the spirituality of air nomad culture that is so essential to airbending practices. Some sort of minor public spectatcle occurs due to Tadashi’s uncontrolled new abilities, leading to the tribe’s leadership demanding he be sent to the northern air temple to become an air bender. Another result of expectations for a harsh division between nations due to the polarization of the Fire Nation’s aggressive actions leading up to the hundred year war. Kei is upset because his only true friend is leaving and does what he does best and decides to get icy and push him away. Tadashi is terrified to leave behind the only culture and family he has ever known to go to a completely new place, and he is hurt. They leave on these complicated feelings. Kei continues his waterbending training and his studies full force to avoid his feelings, and a complex relationship with his brother and family further drive him to avoid expanding his social circle as expectations loom. Tadashi travels to the air temple and is very nervous about the whole thing. Determined to move on and make the best of things, Tadashi is pleasantly suprised by the fun loving nature of the air nomads. He quickly bonds to his mentor Shimada, and becomes fast friends with fellow new air apprentices, Hinata from the Fire Nation and Yachi from the Earth Kingdom, who also discovered a hidden nomad heritage when their bending abilities bloomed. Tadashi trains, and while he is no bending genius he works hard to improve. He pays particular attention to his studies and this makes him a prime candidate for later diplomatic missions as tensions worsen between the four nations.
The Party:
This is the earliest chronologically, basically representing the first meeting Yamaguchi and Tsukishima have after many years apart. After 6 long years Kei and Tadashi meet again when a diplomatic convoy of air nomads is sent to the Northern Tribe. There is a big party with diplomats from each nation. This is about 7 years before the start of the war. The fire nation is there on formality and treated with the most distrust while the other three nations are fairly friendly and willing to let loose with each other. (The fire nation convoy will consist of some other characters, possibly Kageyama and Oikawa? Still working that out) I’m thinking that Asahi and Daichi might be an earth kingdom princes with bodyguards Noya and Tanaka, who become good friends with waterbender Suga. The diplomatic trip is meant to last around 8 months. Anyway this drawing is meant to represent Yamaguchi and Tsukishima’s first meeting at 18 after so many years. Fancy clothes, endless formalities, both considering the other insanely attractive... and they are both drawn in by each other’s familiarity and confidence. This is the first spark of something new between the witty remarks and coy glances. They have no clue what hit them.
First Kiss
Jumping ahead of a lot of yearning... I mean truly a ridiculous amount of dancing around each other for maybe 3 months they finally kiss. Complicated by the impending arrangement of Tsukishima’s marriage to another prestigious young waterbender, Kiyoko, who Tsukishima greatly respects but is in no way attracted to. They keep their blooming romance a passionate secret to prevent political disaster for the nomads and Tsukki’s family. It’s really hard for them to keep their hands off of each other and there are plenty of close calls. There is some jealousy on both sides due to the uncertainties of their relationship. Yamaguchi discovers a betrothal necklace Kei is carving and is painfully reminded of the marriage expectation. Luckily both make strong connections to new friends and slowly their relationship becomes known to this close circle. For a bit they worry about what would happen if Kiyoko finds out, but later they discover her affair with the earth kingdom bodyguard Tanaka so she gets it.
The Proposal
wrote this out and then tumblr didn’t save it so y’all get the quick version bc it is almost 7 am and no I have not slept. Now they are in the Northern Air temple for the tail end of the diplomatic mission. Kei carved the necklace for Yamaguchi, not Kiyoko as he had assumed. In a secluded garden on the island Kei proposes to Yamaguchi with the betrothal necklace. Though made for and worn by women, their relationship already defied infinite traditions and Kei knew how much it would mean for Tadashi to have their relationship carved into stone. They agree to run away to be together after wrapping up the diplomatic mission. Then more stuff happens I have not gotten to yet lol. There will def be a lot of side ships. If anyone has any ideas for side ship plot lines def come chat! I’d love to hear if ppl like this AU idea

Heyyy! I saw you take requests! Imagine: werewolfves, vampires, winged humans and other fantasy/mythological creatures exist (Dungen&dragon races maybe?), What would your favorite Karasuno character(s) be? And, already a happy new year! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Happy New Year!🎉🎆 I think I'm gonna do all of Karasuno bc they all deserve love and I just love all the Haikyuu characters!!!!! And thank you for putting in a request this is my first!!!!!! Wooohoo!!
Karasuno as D&D
(Or what I think they would be)
Daichi Sawamura
When I think of Daichi I think of a very stout, hardy person.
I know he's 176 or so cm but he's very built and in personality and physical build, sturdy
I also see him very hardworking
Daichi seems very dependable but in a chaotic way
Like he really wants to help but he also simultaneously has NO idea what he's doing
But also I can see him loving the world, people, and animals and nature
A protector but maybe a slight loner or the leader of a group, no inbetween
I honestly think he would be either a Dwarf (the only problem I have with this one is is that I don't view Daichi as a materialistic person like a Dwarf to want gold everything and whatnot) or a Firebolg
I feel either of these could fit him since they are very hardworking and sturdy people. But I lean toward firebolgs more since they are kinda calmer natural people if that makes sense??????
Daichi by no means is a calm and just no worries kind of guy but, I feel like he does have a slow and steady wins the race
Daichi is wise and strong and could live a calm and natural life like a Firebolg
Living with the animals and helping them but also living with a tribe of his people
Koushi Sugawara
I look at Suga as a very loving person that in his own chaotic way tries to help everybody
A mom friend if you will
I also see him getting close with few people a being very ride or die
He also seems a bit like a home body, like he enjoys staying home and being comfortable
Thats why I chose either a Gnome or Hafling
Gnomes are of a tight knit community and are very enthusiastic about life. Learning and building what they can
Building things to help their community and ending the day with a well earned drink with friends and family
Haflings love home comforts
Sitting by the fire and reading a good book
Doing some gardening and whatnot
But some travel and learn and grow intellectually
I think either of these would suit Suga
I can't stop imagining him as a Gnome with little goggles as he works on something small and metal with gears or him sitting in little Hafling attire or some pjs by a fire with some mead in one hand and a good book in the other
Asahi Azumane
I view Asahi as one of my personal favorite tropes of really big and scary but actually a sweet, bumbling mess/really small and adorable but could actually tortures you in a million different ways
Asahi is such a gentle giant but can get serious when he needs to
I also see him as someone very natural and loves nature/animals
That's why I picked either Triton or Genasi (the only thing about Genasi is they're super confident and Asahi very much is not)
Triton are water folk and outsiders (people think Asahi is scary and unapproachable)
They also have good relations with giant seahorses, Hippocampi, and sea lions
Can you imagine Asahi riding a Hippocampus with his gorgeous hair flowing in the waves of the water 😳 muah *chefs kiss* majestic
Anyways 😆
I also see him as a Genasi because they're kinda mysterious people with such a strong connection to nature and elemental energies
But I think he would specifically be an Earth Genasi bc they don't tend to make rash and are superior in strength and solid power
Yū Nishinoya
The little adorable ball of thunderous chaos
Noya seems like someone who loves to cause chaos but NEVER hurt anyone
He wants to have a good time but most people can't quite handle his version of a good time
Thats why I chose Satyr for Noya
Satyrs have the loose construct of a civilization and the wild urges of animals and beasts
Noya is a very independent person but will stick to very particular people
Satyrs are similar
They also view everyone as either a body to dance with, poor soul the mess with, or a sober mind to get absolutely hammered with
Ryūnoske Tanaka
Ryū is just such an awesome character to me
He is the real ride or die never gonna give up on you kind of person
I am not throwing any hate onto the other second years IN THE SLIGHTEST but Ryū did stay the whole time
And yet he seems, to me, to constantly need to prove his self worth
This is why I think he would be either a Human or a Lizardman
Humans are a young race and feel like, in their short lives they need to prove themselves
This drive causes them to be adaptable innovators and pioneers
Bu~ut I also think he would be good among the Lizardfolk
They have their own set of personal rules that they live by that aren't exactly conventional to most other races
Also they can be very food driven who isn't tho
Chikara Ennoshita, Hisashi Kinnoshita, Kazuhito Narita
All three give off similar vibes to me (not just cause they're background characters)
All three feel pretty chill and laid back but like their hardworkers once they have the right motivation
The three of them seem passive as well
Doing what they're told without much question but also like severe outsiders (I know they close themselves off from the others on purpose a bit bc they left and feel guilty)
So I chose Changelings for these three
Changelings are generally harmless, passive beings without interest in other races political affairs
But bc of this most others find them not trustworthy
They kind of don't have their own culture and just slip into other societies
I feel like these three did this with the volleyball team bc they didn't show them ever having some kind grand dream or ambitions
They just kind of float along with certain people they're comfortable with
Tobio Kageyama
Kageyama is a very independent character at heart
It's not that he WANTS to be a lonely necessarily, I feel, but that he wants to prove himself so much and constantly that he pushes people away
Even after he learned about relying on people and what it means to be a team
He stills feels like he should be able to do it himself
I feel like there is an ever constant duality in him
That's why I think he'd be a Half Elf
Human/elf mixes never really belong anywhere bc they either age faster than there elven peers or watch as their human loved ones age and die off much faster than themselves
This is why Half elf/humans keep to themselves
But for Kageyama, I feel if he had never met Hinata, Daichi, Suga, Ryū, or any of them, he would've isolated himself on accident from everyone
Shoyo Hinata
Shoyo is very impulsive but does extremely well with others
He is definitely social and NEEDS to have other people to watch his back
He has shown to be aggressive and super competitive with other players
But he forms strong bonds with those he really cares about
I feel like he would be, specifically a Longtooth Shifter
These shifters specifically are aggressive towards others they are not close to
But are deeply invested in those they have chosen to share their time with
They also are Lupine/dog based beings
And Shoyo definitely has a very dog like personality
They also are more pack oriented than other shifters
They have teamwork and group fluidity
Kei Tsukishima
Tsukishima a very stereotypical character but written in THE BEST WAY
He's that stereotype of antagonist to ally or prude outcast to reliable friend
This was caused by the circumstances of him finding out the situation with his brother
So he decided that no one could be trusted with Yamaguchi as an exception
Elf or Tiefling, did you really expect anything else? 😜
Elven people are very reserved a set themselves apart most of the time from other races, generally thinking of them as inferior or untrustworthy to be around the knowledge Elven people possess
Like Tsukishima they think themselves above other beings with a few that choose to live with with humans
Tieflings are forced away from other races
Because of a past sin that has changed them to look slightly different from others, they are shunned
I relate what happened when Tieflings became a different bloodline of humans to what happened between Kei and his older brother Akiteru
Tsukishimas rejection of companionship is something he does himself, but it is a form of mistrust towards others to not lie to him like he once was
Both Elven and Tieflings are very intelligent in their own differing ways
Elven are very well read and prestigious
Tieflings are good at slight of hand and swindling others bc of the rough cards they've been dealt in life
Tadashi Yamaguchi
Tadashi is a very different person than from what people make him out to be
Everybody makes him out to be an uwu ooga booga baby child that needs protecting
But he's not
That's not to say he doesn't have a large, warm and welcoming heart but he's NOT weak by any means
He's strong and he eventually becomes independent from Tsukishima and doesn't have to be codependent
Tadashi Yamaguchi is an amazing hardworker that is learning about the world and is trying to better himself slowly day by day
But there is the soft, kind and helpful side of him that would just do anything for a struggling stranger
That's why I chose either a Tortle or Kobold
I see him being maybe a Tortles that lives a simple life filled with schedules and living a very ritualistic life
They live simply and are very personable beings
But there's also Kobolds who are dragon like creatures that are INWARDLY aggressive but are industrious beings
They hate larger beings as they're short but will show respect if need to but would show backhanded and passive aggressive ways to show their displeasure
They also don't like direct confrontation and would rather entrapt another creature or being than directly fight them
They are also cunning and have a knack for plan making with which they share through out their entire tribe
Kiyoko Shimizu
I see Kiyoko as a very dependable person but also very independent and very strong and strong willed
Basically a feminine icon, honestly
She can do just about everything but seemingly has her own agenda
You're very lucky if her agenda should happen to align with you and your goals because she is an indestructible force not to be dealt with lightly
And yet, she is above all else a women
Feminine, beautiful, and incredibly amazing (as all women are)
I chose Aasimar for Kiyoko
Aasimar are beings that are often descendants of celestial or higher beings
They generally hold good morals and are justice deliverers
They generally serve a guardians of law that strike at evil, lead by example, and dish out justice where it is needed
They are cautious of others and sometimes misunderstood as they did what they do what they believed to be right
Aasimars are also extremely empathetic and are often times hurt by the prejudice they suffer in early years as many don't like what they don't understand
Hitoka Yachi
Yachi IS NOT THE SOFT, DEFENSLESS, CRYBABY EVERYBODY MAKES HER OUT TO BE
Yachi is shy and nervous but that is only bc she was accidentally persuaded into an intimidating world of giants
And for a short and petite framed girlt hat is TERRIFYING at first
But Yachi stepped up to the plate and batted away everyone's shit expectations for her because she rose to become an amazing manager for the team
She became independent from her mother's harsh ideas of her and showed her how powerful she can be
She may be small but she is truly mighty
This is why I picked Centaurs for her
Centaurs are the swiftest out of the humanoids and build peaceful communities
They hunt what and where they wish, as they generally move after a few years in one place, move
They highly value personal choice and individuality among their tribes
They also love and worship nature, many wanting to devote themselves to a higher power and/or become druids
They generally bear no ill will towards anyone unless the opposers strike first
Thank you @popcorntime-doodles for giving me my first request I hope you like this and I hope I did a good job
Again this is just my opinion and how I see the characters and the many races of D&D
Also again I do request I have a character masterlist in my bio ❤

Can we have a Tsukki scenario where the reader is just as sarcastic as him? I mostly see the reader being overly sensitive and stuff. Also, I'm new here and look forward to reading your works
This ended up being longer than it was supposed to, but now it’s too late anyways XD
As in introverted and overly polite person, I had my struggles writing two sarcastic people at the same time. Yet, here we are, with this piece filled with not-so classical romance!
Also a very late welcome to the blog - I’m happy to have you here :3
Tumblr media
Another Love Language | A Tsukishima x fem! Reader Scenario
Words: 1336
-----
People were gathered all over the place. Even though this hall had been reserved for participating teams only, there was nearly no empty spot to be found. Boys and girls wearing jerseys in all colours of the rainbow had taken over, creating a noise by simply talking to each other that could be compared to an earthquake.
As most of his own teammates had been awake way too early this morning, Tsukishima was now able to call himself one of the few lucky ones with an actual corner to sit at. He taped his fingers in advance while Yamaguchi tried not to stare at the crowd, which would sent his heart rate up to unknown heights.
Nishinoya and Tanaka had left several minutes ago to meet some friend from a girls’ team. With every announcement Asahi seemed more pale, Kageyama fiddled with his fingers to properly stretch them. The trio of Daichi, Sugawara and Ennoshita was casually chatting with each other. And Hinata was absolutely nowhere to be seen, probably causing a ruckus at the toilettes as usual.
What a time to be a member of Karasuno.
A glance at his phone told Tsukishima that the first match would start in an hour. So the warm-up would be due in about thirty minutes. Actually he had been checking his messages, but nothing new popped up in his inbox.
Positively speaking this meant that Akiteru had found his way to Tokyo without any issues and was most likely sitting at his assigned seat by now. Tsukishima rested his back against the wall as he starred at his feet.
The room might be crowded and loud, but he still managed to understand many parts of different conversations. Some people were standing pretty close to the area of his team anyways, closer than he appreciated. He rolled his eyes at their behaviour.
„Aren’t these boys from Karasuno? The team that was known as the fallen crows?“ He heard a boy whisper from a few meters away.
Not only had this guy attracted Tsukishima’s attention, seemingly the rest of his teammates was listening as well. No one made eye contact as the stranger continued to speak without noticing that the victims of his theories were already planning their comeback.
„Do you really think that they are strong enough to beat someone here?“
In absolute sync all member of Karasuno present were looking up to stare at the culprit with a blank expression on their faces. Once he had understood that their eyes were directed towards him, he froze immediately. He broke out of his paralysis by jumping when another person approached him from behind.
„Yeah, because I would totally think of the team that kicked Shiratorizawa, the current champion, out off the competition as weak," a female voice commented on his question from earlier.
Yamaguchi and Tsukishima changed their mimics by the time the sarcastic remarks had reached their ears. The latter couldn’t decide whether to sigh or to hold his breath, though a smirk appeared on his face nevertheless. Of course he would recognise the voice of his own girlfriend from miles away or in the middle of a thousand people.
Supporting his upper body with his hand he rose from his place, becoming the target of his team members’ curiosity.
In the meantime the boy, who had been called out by you, had retreated into the ocean of unknown faces. Obviously yours stood out even more to him. On the contrary spotting a tall blond guy in a black-orange jersey hadn’t been the hardest task for you to fulfil either.
When Tsukishima and you walked towards each other, the eyes of the other Karasuno players were practically pinned to your boyfriend’s back. Only Yamaguchi happened to know what exactly they were witnessing. For the rest it looked like the first-year approached a random girl who had just roasted someone for them.
„I thought I told you that you didn’t have to come,“ he said with one of his eyebrows raised. „What are you doing here?“
„Playing soccer, of course,“ you shot back with a grin wrinkling your cheeks.
So far you had only seen him in his volleyball attire on pictures, not in reality. On the ride to the stadium his older brother Akiteru had shown you plenty of them and had been blabbering endlessly about Kei’s career as a middle blocker.
But nothing could have prepared you for the moment when you actually got to see him in his jersey. Number 11 of Karasuno, a regular.
„Hellooooooo Tsukishima! Would you mind to introduce us to this lovely girl you are talking to?“
Suddenly Sugawara had popped up next to the two of you, starling your boyfriend for the minority of a second. Not much to Tsukishima’s surprise Daichi stood right behind the setter, eyeing you with an innocent smile.
„Ah, you must be Kei's teammates. Nice to meet you! I won’t occupy him for long, just making sure that he is in usually high spirits.“ You proceeded with telling them your name, school and grade.
After that you looked at your boyfriend to finish your introduction as you certainly didn’t know how much his team was involved in his love life.
„She is my stalker in disguise of a fan," he responded to your nonverbal plea.
A chuckle left your mouth while you crossed your arms in front of your chest and leaned onto your lamppost of a significant other. Even with your body putting weight on him, he didn’t move in inch. So you stood securely.
„Nah, I am more of his personal reminder that his heart of stone is able to feel love.“
Sugawara and Daichi introduced themselves, exchanging glances with one another in between sending approving looks your way. Together with you Tsukishima returned to his former resting spot where Yamaguchi greeted you as well. Out of the Karasuno bunch he had been the only person to officially have been told about the change of his best friend’s relationship status.
Though, Sugawara had to admit that he had indeed had a suspicions until today.
Sitting next to each other with your backs facing the wall, you more or less leaning onto him again, the missing boys of the team returned one by one.
At first Nishinoya and Tanaka did not believe their eyes that a third girl had found their way to them before Tsukishima clicked his tongue at them. They went on with jumping up and down, probably attracting Hinata in the end.
Not less excited, the orange-haired boy had sparkles in his eyes as he cooed, „I didn’t know you had a girlfriend, Tsukishima! Please teach me your methods, please, PLEASE!“
Time went by in the speed of a spiked volleyball, so the announcement to prepare for the first match came faster than expected. Several parts of the crowd inside the room started moving, gathering or walking out to the gym already.
Tsukishima put on his sports glasses, you did your best to distract Yamaguchi from the upcoming adrenaline. Not that it really worked, but internally he was glad to have someone that was talking to him about something else than facing strong teams. In this case how your boyfriend would look stunning in glasses with a pink frame.
„You should go back to your seat. Akiteru is probably waiting for you,“ he advised you once Coach Ukai had told the team to get together.
Now was your moment to leave - In the battles he was about to fight on court you couldn’t do anything but watch from afar. For sure you were intending to clap and scream until your hands and throat would be sore, maybe annoying a specific middle blocker of Karasuno in the process.
One last time Tsukishima turned around to send you off.
„Break a finger, Kei!“
He gave you a thumbs up, the corners of his lips slightly poking towards the ceiling. Then he switched back to his serious mode in order to crush their opponents.

So... I loved Haikyuu at Hogwarts. I just think Ichiro as a character and as a vilain is incredibly sad,I'm not about to justify everything he's done, he's done some terrible things and so many people died because of him but the level of self-hatred he reached is just sad.He rejected everything he was to the point where he is actively trying to destroy people who are like him and his brother..
First, thank you so much and that’s so much the feeling that I want to give Ichiro (or at least, the young Ichiro of the diary) and I’m so glad that came across.
Second, apologies because characters, villains, foils, foreshadowing, and metaphors are some of my favorite things to talk about with this story so I’m definitely going to ramble, I can tell now. Feel free to skip this.
Because, yeah, I do think Hisashi and Ichiro (especially talking about the diary since later gets into a whole lot of spoilers) are incredibly tragic characters and partly because of how much potential they had to not be villains. I really wanted Ichiro and Hisashi to be a classic good moral story that did everything right but went so, so wrong. Ichiro could have made such a positive impact on the wizarding world’s muggleborn prejudice. He’s the first muggleborn Slytherin (even if he isn’t public like Oikawa), incredibly gifted, intelligent, good at politics, and best friends with one of the most prominent pureblood family heirs. He could have changed both Hisashi’s mindset and the world. And he did. In exactly the wrong way. Hisashi could have been the other half that moved past his prejudices to accept his best friend and always stand by him no matter what. And he did. In exactly the wrong way. They both truly believed in what they were doing protected the world they loved and, in doing so, they nearly destroyed it in a way the wizarding world is still suffering from. I really wanted the underlying issue for them to be Ichiro having everything to move forward but still being changed by internalized prejudice reinforced by his mistreatment by the muggle world while Hisashi’s a lesson in of itself to not always stand by your friends when it enables them to do injustices (a friends job is sometimes to stop their friends). Not to be too down on the original HP series or anything, but I think the true villain wasn’t Voldemort so much as the actual society and that wasn’t really solved. For my series, I really did want the true underlying corruption/villain to be the wizarding world’s society which is bigger than any one person or institution and warps the people that live under it (both purebloods and muggleborns).
But, the other point I really wanted to make with Ichiro and Hisashi (again not giving any spoilers for anything past the diary) is basically B99 “cool motive, still murder”. No matter what their intentions, they still made the world so much worse for the next generation including people like Oikawa and Hinata who face way worse shit for being muggleborn now, people like Kageyama and Yachi who lost parents, and people like Suga and Tanaka who are still heavily weighed down by their parent’s legacy. Whatever they planned, they still nearly destroyed everything they claimed to want to protect. They’re still the villains and Hisashi (shown in the very last diary entry) recognized it before he died. Ichiro Ignathe post-diary, supposed “death”, and current thoughts/plan still remain a huge spoiler.
Anyway, yeah, I knew I was going to ramble, oops. Point is thanks and glad you liked it.

Look, I'm a female twin so for the Daichi fic can I please see how He would act around my younger twin sister?!!!💕

He didn't know that you had a twin
Like you just never mentioned it-
How could you not mention that you have a twin?!
And when she opened the door one day, he took a step forward to kiss her at the sight of a familiar figure, but hesitated for a second-
THANK GOD
At a closer look, he noticed that your similarity was only at first glance
I can promise you: he would never mistake the both of you again
Like never
Anyways, he took a step back and quickly apologized- confused as hell, but he still knows his manners™
You find both of them sitting at the table and drinking tea → he immediately won her heart
Like how could he not? We're talking about Daichi
He would be very polite but a little distanced in the beginning- but soon the ice would break and they would talk a lot more casually
They grow closer through the time, becoming friends at some point
He would often ask her for gift ideas- or ask for her help to surprise you
Whenever he brings some food for you, he also brings some for your sister- attentive boy omg, he just liked your sister a lot, and spoiled not only you, but her too
He even memorized what she liked and not omg
When you text with her, he always tells you to say hello from him
When her heart got broken one day, he helped you comforting her- and acted like a protective older brother
Sometimes the three of you watch a movie together, but he would be considerate, and not cuddle you too much at least not until you’re alone
Sometimes both of them tease you a bit, but when you pout, Daichi quickly pulls you in a hug with a soft smile, and presses a kiss to your cheek while laughing with your sister
Basically sees her as his sister at some point → Your family is also his family

How would Kaoru or the family, really... react when they find out abt Kageyama 😹
Well, Kaoru found out because he accidentally read the text notifications on her phone. He heard a bit about the setter from his onii-sans. Alarms went off in his head. Also, this was in high school.
In this route, Kageyama eventually got with her in his second year, her third year. During nationals, in between games, they went on a date and evening walks. Her phone kept ringing because Kaoru wanted to know where she was, if she was back at her hotel yet, what has Kageyama tried to do, and, to her horror, he told on her so now even her uncle and sister were texting her!
Her mom would be calm about it though, all smiles now that her daughter has someone. Uncle would be very teasing. Kaoru will be protective as heck. And Mika would be supportive! As would Reiki!
When the two eventually got together, she eventually brought him over to Hyogo during Obon to meet the family. He brought followers for her mom and sister - so two bouquets, okay? Poor Blueberry was so awkward and stiffly polite, uncle and Reiki kept ganging up on him, Mika would take pictures. And Kaoru? He kept trying to be intimidating. Him, standing 5′11, a high schooler, intimidating the 6′2 muscled pro-athlete.
The person he wanted to make an impression of the most was her mom and Kaoru, much to his shock.
“You’re her brother, he said. “You know her best, know what’s best for her, which is why your opinion of who she dates matters.” Uncle’s slightly offended by this. “But rest assured that she’s safe as long as she’s with me, and I’ll do my best to keep her safe and happy by my side.”
Kaoru eventually warmed up to him. He’ll even call him ‘Tobio-nii” and ask him to buy him jersey shirts or some sports shoes, Reader would reprimand him for it, but Tobio buys them anyway. He’ll always buy her mom, uncle, Reiki, and Mika stuff, too.

Oikawa x reader ch. 5
Here’s chapter 5! Sorry for the random updates, I haven’t figured out any sort of schedule yet lmao
“I heard you’re our official new team manager!” I turned around as a familiar voice called from behind me.
Oikawa grinned as he sauntered over, his hands in his pockets. He wore jeans and an oversized jacket, his hair sticking up at odd angles. Behind him was Iwaizumi. The second boy had short, spiky black hair and was a bit shorter than Oikawa, but he was more muscled. His expression was almost the complete opposite of his setter, serious and angry while Oikawa looked smug beyond belief.
I smiled, giving a little awkward wave as they approached. “Yeah, the paperwork got processed yesterday.”
I had been going to the Seijoh practices for a few days, but I still didn’t know the rest of the team very well. Iwaizumi and Oikawa had been friendly, but I was still uncomfortable around them. They were just so intimidating.
“Where are you headed?” Iwaizumi asked, his voice low. His gaze swept over the surrounding area as if analyzing possible threats, but he looked back to me once I started speaking, clearly paying attention.
“Oh, I’m done with classes for the day, so I was going down to the store to grab some pork buns.”
“Hey, we were planning to do that too! You should tag along with us.” Oikawa threw an arm around my shoulders, and Iwaizumi rolled his eyes before violently yanking his friend off of me.
“Iwa-chan!” Oikawa squawked in outrage, and I laughed a little. They had a strange, but sweet, relationship.
“Sorry about him,” the ace said, “But yeah, if you want to tag along, we’d be happy if you’d join us.”
Both of the boys looked at me, waiting for an answer, and I felt my cheeks heat up. I wasn’t exactly used to interacting with boys who I didn’t consider like brothers. “Uh, yeah sure, I’ll come. Are you walking?”
They nodded, and I quickly dropped my stuff off at my car before joining them again. The walk was only ten minutes through town, and I felt tiny as I walked between the two boys in the direction of the store.
“So how do you feel about being our manager?” Oikawa asked.
I shrugged. “You guys are a great team, and I’m excited to be involved in volleyball again. But honestly, you do a pretty good job of managing the players yourself, Oikawa-san.”
Iwaizumi grunted. “Don’t encourage him.”
“Aw, Y/n-kun is so cute. But don’t worry new girl, there’s plenty for you to do. Having a new voice is always good, and you seem to know what you’re doing in terms of scheduling and physical training.”
I snorted, thinking about the hours I had spent my first year of high school, reading up on all the rules of volleyball and figuring out the best way to help manage Karasuno at the time. It had given me vital practice in observation, because I always needed to be aware of the emotional state of the players, as well as the relationships between them. Oikawa and Iwaizumi could be invaluable resources to figuring this out for Aoba Johsai.
“If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, I would be super grateful if you both could help me get comfortable with how the team works. I’m sure I’ll get it over time, but you’ve worked with each other for years, and I thought…” I paused, not sure where I was going with that.
“Yeah we can totally help you with that,” Iwaizumi said, looking thoughtful.
“Anything for you,” Oikawa poked me in the shoulder, and I laughed.
We arrived at the convenient store a moment later, and Iwaizumi politely held the door for me, before slamming it on Oikawa before he could make it inside. I couldn’t help the giggle that burst out of my mouth as Seijoh’s captain let out a furious yell and punched Iwaizumi as soon as he got inside.
“What are you getting?” I asked them, surveying the shelves of snacks.
“Milkbread!” Oikawa crowed, striding directly for the shelf stocked with the food. Iwaizumi shrugged, wandering down a random aisle as he looked at the options.
“What are you getting, new girl?” Oikawa walked back over to me carrying two loaves of milk bread and a soda.
“I’m thinking a pork bun, but they’re pretty expensive…” I murmured, my eyes on steamed food.  I tucked a hair behind my ear, and then sighed, giving in. They looked too good to resist anyway.
Iwaizumi walked back over, loaded with candy and chips, and then we all headed to the counter.
As I went to check out, Oikawa slid next to me, literally shoving me out of the way. He smiled widely at the lady behind the counter and gestured to all the food in front of him, which included my pork buns. “Just this please.”
I let out an outraged noise of protest. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
Oikawa rolled his eyes. “What does it look like?”
“I can pay for myself!”
The woman handed back his change, and Oikawa passed me the bag with my food inside, patting me on the head. “I know you can, Y/n-kun, but I’m a gentleman. Unlike Iwa-chan over here.” He gestured to the dark haired boy, whose face twisted in indignation.
“I’ll pay you back,” I promised, refusing to allow him to spend money on me when I was perfectly capable of providing for myself.
He shrugged and smirked down at me. “I’m sure you will.”
We headed outside, beginning the walk back up towards school. I munched on my food in silence, listening to Iwaizumi and Oikawa bicker back and forth like little siblings.
“Want some milk bread?” Oikawa held out a piece to me.
“Are you sure? You can have a bite of my pork bun.”
He passed me a torn bit of the bread, and I handed him the rest of one of my buns. The milk bread was utterly delicious, and I felt surprise cross my face. Obviously, I had had milk bread before, but for some reason this was unlike any I had before.
“I know right!” Oikawa responded to my change in expression. “It’s the best in town. I get it every week.”
“You’re going to die from too much milk bread one day,” Iwaizumi said, stuffing a handful of gummies in his mouth.
“Not a bad way to go,” I said, covering my mouth with my hand to hide a smile.
“See? Y/n-kun is on my side.” Oikawa threw his arm around my shoulders and smirked proudly at Iwaizumi, who rolled his eyes.
“Y/n-chan?”
I froze as a familiar voice called my name from behind me.
Standing on the road, panting and covered in sweat was Daichi, dressed in his Karasuno practice jersey. As I watched, the rest of the team jogged around the corner, coming to a halt when they saw Daichi and I.
“Hey you guys!” I said, awkwardly maneuvering out from under Oikawa’s arm. “What are you doing over here?”
Asahi answered, “We went on a team run for practice today. What are you doing over here?” With them.
The tension was palpable, and I suddenly wanted to duck into an alley and disappear. “Oh, I came to get some food.” I cleared my throat.
“Is that Y/n-chan?” Hinata burst from between Suga and Tsukki, bounding over to give me a hug. “How have you been? I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages! We should all do a sleepover sometime. You know, practice is way more boring without you there. You should come back to Karasuno!”
“Karasuno? So that’s where you went to school.” I glanced over to see Oikawa coming up next to me, Iwaizumi on my other side. “I’m Oikawa Toru, captain of Seijoh, and this is our ace, Iwaizumi Hajime.” “The great king!” Hinata gasped, eyes wide. Oikawa looked confused for a second, and I made a mental note to explain later.
“It’s good to finally meet you, Oikawa.” Daichi stepped forward, extending a hand. “I’m Daichi Sawamura, captain of Karasuno.”
“Hey wait!” Tanaka was practically shouting as usual as he marched forward, pointing at me. “Don’t tell me you’re working with them now?”
“I--well I--”
“She’s our new team manager,” Oikawa said smugly, and I punched him in the arm as hard as I could. “Ow! What the--”
I ignored his protests as I turned back to Karasuno. “Yes, I’m Seijoh’s new manager, but it was because I missed you all and volleyball so much. I need it in my life--I’m sure you understand that perfectly well. But me being on another team doesn’t change the fact that I’ll be cheering you all on the whole time. Which side of the net I’m on doesn’t matter.”
“You’ll still come to our games, right Y/n?” Noya asked, bouncing up next to Hinata.
“Of course. I’ll be your loudest fan! Now you all should get going, keep practicing. I’ll come and visit you, promise.”
Daichi nodded in agreement. Yamaguchi and Hinata both gave me quick hugs, but I noticed Kageyama glaring more intensely than usual at Oikawa, and indirectly, at me. I hoped he wasn't upset that I was now on a team with his rival.
I watched them as they jogged away, the sound of their feet pounding on the pavement slowly fading as they disappeared from sight.
I turned to Oikawa, giving him an annoyed look. “Why’d you have to say that?”
He looked a little sheepish, running his hand through his hair. “I don’t know. I just wanted them to know you’re with us now.”
I rolled my eyes. “Ugh, you’re so annoying.”
“Hey I just bought you food!”
“I didn’t ask you to!”
“But still…”
“Nope. I’m mad.”
“Y/n-chan,” Oikawa leaned down over me, nose to nose. He made a sweet, pleading expression, sticking his lip out. “Will you forgive me?”
I tried to keep a straight face, but it was impossible, and I burst out laughing at him. “God, you’re the worst,” I said, shoving him.
Iwaizumi snorted, and I followed him as we began to walk back up towards the school, Oikawa trailing behind.
For the first time, I didn’t miss Karasuno.

I have no idea what to title this
Hello, dear friends-
This is just a little fun thing I wrote, some worldbuilding for where I want to go with my MP100 OC. I hope you can enjoy it. (Reigen gets to have an out of body experience, so at least read that part.)
“Mob, I’m starting to not feel well…”
“Hm? Well, Master, that was a ramen shop we’ve never tried before. Maybe there was something—“
“No, no. Not like that,” said Reigen, waving his hand flippantly. “More like… ‘I don’t like this place! It’s spooky!’”
“In that case, it’s probably the esper over there with the spirit hanging on her back,” responded the boy, pointing a well-manicured finger past Reigen to a red-haired woman walking slowly with her head in a map.
“Spirit on her back? I mean—yeah, of course it’s the lady with the spirit on her back. Watch and learn, Mob.”
Reigen sauntered up to the woman, tapping her on the shoulder. “Um, excuse me, ma’am,”
“Huh?” She pulled her face out of the map, still walking.  “What is it?” The face, now in view, betrayed someone who was definitely not Japanese.
“Oh, a foreigner,” said Reigen. “Miss, I sense a…” He thought for a moment, searching for the right word. It had been a long time since those English classes he was forced to take in high school. “A person, at your back.”
“Person at my back? Japanese is fine, sir,” she said, folding up her map and thrusting it in her pocket. “And the person you’re ‘sensing’ is not one I’d like to have exorcised, if that’s what you’re about to try and sell me on.”
Reigen bristled. The “I-don’t-like-this-place-it’s-spooky” aura sharpened.
“What I am interested in is you, little esper,” she said, leaning down to eye level with Mob. “I’m Hazel Reed. What’s your name?”
“Um, I’m Shigeo. Kageyama Shigeo.”
“And I—“ Reigen interrupted— “am Reigen Arataka, the Greatest Psychic of the 21st Century! At your service!”
“Hmm. Did I ask?” The “I-don’t-like-this-place-it’s-spooky” aura intensified into a “KILL KILL KILL KILL” aura. Reigen wasn’t sure whether he should flush with embarrassment or turn pale in fear as the aura grew heavier and the air grew thicker.
“So, Shigeo, are you a natural esper?”
“Yes, I am.” The friendly smile on her face stood in stark contrast to the spirit that appeared to be sitting on Master’s head as he pulled at his collar. “Um, if it’s not too much trouble, would you call… them… off? He’s really harmless.”
“Oh, my apologies.” Hazel turned toward Reigen, suddenly shouting in English. “Sis! Would you lay off already?! Poor guy’s getting all sweaty.” Several people in the nearby vicinity cringed and began walking away at the disturbance. Reigen let out the breath he was holding as Shigeo watched the grey mass rise off of his shoulders and… roll its eyes?
“Thank you,” said Reigen. “Although I could have handled it myself,” he muttered, brushing off his lapel.
“Yeah, yeah. Sure you could’ve.”
“Hey, if you’re an esper, how are you at exorcising?” Reigen winked at Mob. “Maybe I’ll at least get myself a new employee,” he thought.
“Exorcising? I dunno. Never tried it. I’m only really good at sensing human spirits anyway.”
“Your spirit was a person, right?” Shigeo asked.
“Mhm. My twin, actually. She passed away when our mom was pregnant with us, and my body absorbed hers. I’ve always been able to see her but didn’t realize I had ‘powers’ until I was in kindergarten.”
“Wow,” Shigeo marveled. It was the first time in a while he had met an adult esper that wasn’t trying to kill him. Reigen stood nearby, annoyed that he was being ignored, and discomforted by the feeling of someone watching him. “What can you do?”
“I’m best at OOBEs,” she said.
“OOB…E? I’m sorry, I don’t understand…”
“Um, I’m not sure how to say it in Japanese… it’s like… hm…” the twin spirit stopped staring at Reigen for a moment, floating over to Hazel and shrugging. “Ohh, good idea, Sis! Here, if we can find somewhere I can sit, I’ll show you.”
The three walked over to a nearby bench in an area devoid of people, Reigen falling behind as Mob watched the spirit pull on the back of his shoe.
Hazel sat on the bench, leaning back. “Okay, don’t get scared. It’s like this.”
Her body went limp as her eyes rolled back, head lolling to one side, a bronze glow emanating from her mouth as her spirit left her body a soulless husk.
“Oh, my god! Miss? Miss?! Okay you are??” Reigen panicked, in broken English.
“Master, I think it’s ‘Are you okay,’’” said Shigeo. “She’s having an out of body experience.”
“Oh, ‘out of body experience!’ Yes! That’s what I meant,” said the spirit, grinning. “Sorry, I couldn’t remember the Japanese,” Hazel’s body suddenly came back to life as Reigen jumped back, having cautiously approached until he was inches from her face. “So I can do that, and I can do it to other people, too, plus Sis can possess people, or me.”
“No way you can do it to someone else,” Reigen said, scoffing. “What are you gonna do, slap them right out of their body?”
“Uh, Master—“
“Oh, would you like to find out, Mr. Greatest-Psychic-of-the-21st-Century? I’d be more than happy to show you,”
“Hah, I’d like to see you try. I’m pretty securely attached to my body, thank you very much,” he crossed his arms confidently.
“Master, I don’t know if that’s such a good—“
The twin spirit began to shake. Was it… laughing?
“Oh, I’ll do more than try. Would you like to sit down first?” Hazel raised an eyebrow inquisitively, turning her nose up in the air.
“Not a chance. I’m more than confident in my ability to—“ Hazel stepped forward, gently tapping Reigen’s forehead with the heel of her hand as he immediately began crumpling to the ground. Hazel mercifully reached toward him, catching him under the arms before lowering him to the ground. The twin spirit threw back its head in a gesture that was now unmistakable as laughter. Reigen’s spirit, a dull shade of orange, began to panic.
“Oh mY GOD! MOB! CAN YOU SEE ME? MOB! HELP! SHE REALLY DID IT! THIS IS ASSAULT! THIS IS—Oh, I look so handsome,”
Mob’s concern, brought on by seeing his Master appearing for all intents and purposes dead, dissipated quickly as Reigen’s spirit began fawning over his body.
“Man, of all the things you can do during an out of body experience, this guy’s just checkin’ himself out,” said Hazel, still supporting the man’s catatonic body.
“That’s…” Mob trailed off, rethinking what he was about to say.
“I’m guessing that’s just how he is, huh?”
Mob nodded.
“HEY, I’m drooling. Mob, wipe my face,”
“Oh, here. I’ve got it,” the red-haired woman pulled a tissue from her pocket, gently wiping away the bead of saliva that had appeared. “You need to trim your nose hairs, Mr. Psychic.”
“You should be more polite to people you’ve just barely met, Reed-san,” he huffed.
“Um, Master, there’s…”
“Eh? What is it, Mob?”
The twin spirit was floating behind Reigen’s, nodding. Shigeo pointed, wordless, as Reigen’s spirit looked over what could be best called his “shoulder.”
“Oh, so you’re the one who’s been causing all the trouble,” he growled, trying to sound threatening.
The twin spirit shook its head, waving an appendage flippantly.
“Come on, don’t you talk?”
“She says I’m the one who causes all the trouble. She just helps me,” Hazel pipes up. “She can’t really talk, but she talks telepathically into my head. I guess it’s a twin thing.”
The twin spirit gestured a few more times, before tilting its head quizzically.
“Sis, I’m not going to say that.” The spirit glided over to the woman, still supporting Reigen’s body, circling her a few times. “Okay, that I can say. We want to know if you know of any other espers.”
“Mhm,” Shigeo nodded. “Master, maybe we should take her back to the office?”
“All right, Mob. I’ll entertain your little crush. Let’s go,” Reigen began to float away.
“I-It’s not like that, I promise, really,” the boy straightened suddenly, nervous.
“No problem, no problem,” the woman smiled. “Hey, it’s Reigen, right? Come back into your body. I’m not hauling you all the way over.”
“Ah, right. Sorry, sorry. Um, how, uh—how do I do that again?”
“Just… fly in? I guess? I’m not sure how to explain it in Japanese.”
Reigen’s spirit hummed, shrugged, and flew directly into the body still laying limp partially on the ground, which immediately spluttered to life, coughing and gasping.
“Oh, that does not feel nice,” he groaned.
“Sorry, that part does take some getting used to,” said Hazel, grinning sheepishly as she supported the taller man into a standing position. “You alright? I really shouldn’t have done that, but you were being annoying.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Here, the office isn’t too far away.”
The three (plus one spirit) began to walk through the street, now near-empty after the lunch rush had ended.
“My neck is kinda sore,”
“Sorry, your head was getting heavy.”
“I could have helped,” said Shigeo.
“Oh, yeah. I forgot,”
“Very convenient, Reed-san,” Reigen spat.
“What! I did,” said Hazel. “Oh, quiet, you. I’m not going to say that, either.”
Shigeo and Reigen looked on at the woman as she spoke—to Reigen’s view, seemingly to the air; although he knew now what she was conversing with, despite not being able to see it.
“No! I won’t... Oh, fine. But I’m editing it before I say it.” She sighed. “Sis wants me to say, ‘thank you for your help,’ and that I’m having a nice time.”
“We’re always happy to help,” said Reigen, with an obsequious smile. Shigeo nodded, a slight hint of a smile on even his less expressionate face.
The twin spirit curled around Hazel, and Shigeo could sense the bright hue of happiness on her, also.
“Oh? You have a brother?”
Hazel, having been introduced to Dimple, was seated on the couch in the Spirits and Such Consultation office, a steaming cup of tea in her hands. Sis’ light grey form circled Dimple’s green one curiously.
“I do. He’s an esper as well, now.”
“Oh, very good! I always wondered if it was genetic, you know,” said Hazel. “Would you stop? It’s creepy,” said Dimple, in the background.
“Um, your sister. Does she—do you—“ Shigeo turned his focus to the grey spirit—“do you have a name?”
The spirit shook her head sadly. “She wasn’t ever named,” said Hazel, sipping the tea.
“What would you like to be called?”
The spirit looked to Hazel expectantly. “Sis, he’s asking you, not me,”
“Can… can you hold a pen?” The spirit nodded eagerly.
“Oh, you’ve done it now, Shigeo. Now she’ll never shut up. I’m lucky she only knows how to write in English.” Hazel began to chuckle as Reigen produced a marker and notebook from his desk drawer, watching it float out of his hands.
The three—plus Dimple—watched expectantly as the marker hovered over the book, shaking, finally writing tremulous block letters:
SISTER IN JAPANESE?
“Well, there’s a few ways to say that, I think,” said Hazel. “Probably ‘imouto,’ right?”
The spirit vehemently shook her head.
NO
BIG SISTER.
“Oh, ‘onee-san,’ then.”
WRITE PLEASE?
Hazel flushed. “Um, my kanji are actually horrible.”
“I’ve got it,” said Reigen. “It’s like this.”
Sis handed him the marker as he scrawled a kanji on the book before holding it back in the air for her to grasp.
WOW
THANK YOU.
“You’re welcome,” said Shigeo. “Onee-san.”
“That’s really sweet of you, Shigeo. I don’t think anyone’s ever asked us that before.” Hazel grinned.
“Oh, it’s nothing, really…” Shigeo said, sheepishly, blushing.
The notebook turned to the next page, marker cap being stuck on the back of the marker.
CUTE!
Reigen and Dimple began to laugh as Shigeo leaned over to look at the writing before his cheeks reddened further.
“Geez, Sis, this Dimple guy must be a bad influence. You’re getting bold.”
BAD INFLUENCE?
YOU’RE ONE TO TALK…
“I’m one to talk? What do you mean?” Hazel finished her tea, setting the empty cup on the table.
Sis looked at Hazel, then flicked her head toward Reigen.
“Ooookay, the notebook’s going away now. No more talking,” said Hazel, nervously reaching for the objects in Sis’ hands.
The spirit grinned, floating near the ceiling, scrawling something on the notebook and tearing the page out before handing the book and marker to Hazel, passing the page to Reigen.
“Oh no… do I even want to know what that says?”
Dimple scoffed, reading over Reigen’s shoulder.
“Oh, please, onee-san. You flatter me,” Reigen said, waving his hand and turning the paper so Shigeo and Hazel could read it.
YOU’RE CUTE TOO
LETS BE FRIENDS?
The group began to laugh, Hazel sighing, exasperated, before laughing as well. Sis began to grin as well, flying in a circle near the ceiling before shrinking and curling neatly into Hazel’s pocket.
“Well, I’d better head out,” said Hazel, as the reddening light of sunset began to flow in through the office window.
Shigeo had left about forty-five minutes prior—it was a school night, after all, and his parents (and Ritsu) would worry. Hazel and Reigen had been chatting over several more cups of tea, very nearly alone—Dimple had gone home with Shigeo, and Sis was uncharacteristically docile, still in Hazel’s pocket.
“Before I go, though, Reigen—“ she stood, staring piercingly directly into the conman’s brown eyes. “Does he know?”
“Uh, I—“ he said, taken aback at the directness of the question.
“Because I don’t have a problem with what you’re doing here. It sounds like you’re helping people, one way or another. But…”
“Yeah. He knows.” Reigen rose from the couch also, hands in his pockets, feeling small despite being taller than the redhead.
“Good. You don’t seem like the type of guy to lie to kids, anyway. Thanks for your help. And, uh,” she paused, stretching, neck popping, as Sis began to stir in her pocket. “Sorry again for smacking you out of your body earlier.”
“Ah, it’s no problem. It was kind of cool.”
“Well, it was nice meeting you then. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again.” The two shook hands, as Hazel left, the door shutting behind her with a soft click.
“What a day. Guess it’s time for me to go home, too.” said Reigen, to no one in particular.
A shiver went down his spine as the desk drawer flew open, marker and notebook shooting out. He watched—dumbfounded—for a moment, before the marker capped itself and everything dropped to the ground.
He cautiously opened the notebook to the most recent page, the telltale “fresh marker” smell burning in the air.
WHILE WE ARE HERE
IF YOU NEED EXTRA HELP
OR IF YOU WANT TO GET COFFEE SOMETIME…
HAZEL 0xx-xxx-xxxx
A shaky approximation of the kanji for “older sister” was scrawled in the corner alongside a smiley face.

You make the best cross over art... stg.. can we get some more of the twin! Saitama and mob au? That warms my heart
Thanks! I’m not sure why, but I really enjoy drawing crossover aus. Maybe it’s the novelty of seeing characters in a different setting? Anyway, I do want to draw more of the twin au but I’m still trying to figure out how to portray Saitama and Shigeo’s dynamic visually 😓
Like how at first glance others would assume that they have similar personalities because they’re both reserved and have bland expressions but once the brothers start talking they’re actually very different. For instance Shigeo’s style of speaking is very polite and formal whereas Saitama is more blunt and irreverent. Shigeo wants to be popular and is self conscious when interacting with others, while Saitama doesn’t care for social status and won’t hesitate to say what’s on his mind ortell someone off. And whereas Shigeo is reluctant to use his powers on others even if they’re provoking him, Saitama has no qualms knocking out anyone trying to mess with him or his brothers.
But for all their differences I think that they’d be very supportive of each other and appreciate qualities in the other that they may lack; Shigeo admiring Saitama for his confidence and Saitama admiring Shigeo’s compassion for others.
The incident with the highschoolers happened with the twins instead and though it was Saitama’s first encounter with Shigeo’s ???% mode, he didn’t become afraid of Shigeo like Ritsu did. The experience actually had the opposite effect on him. Since Saitama was born with his powers in this au, he’d never felt pain or been injured, making him feel different from everyone else and inhuman. So even though he gets hurt from stopping ???%, he actually feels relieved because that meant he was capable of feeling pain like others did, and that made him much more fond of and protective of Shigeo (I’m not sure if that makes sense but that’s what I like to think of for the twins’ backstory haha). In turn Shigeo’s grateful that Saitama has never been afraid of approaching him when he’s at 100% and is able to calm him down.
I know there’s the issue of whether or not Saitama would develop the same personality if he wasn’t born as a regular human, but honestly I’m less concerned about that and more focused on giving Saitama and Shigeo a wholesome brotherly relationship lol. Also Saitama is probably his last name (I don’t think ONE has ever provided a full name for any of the OPM characters), so for this au his name would be Hiroto Kageyama. It’s kinda on the nose but I like that it rhymes with Shigeo, and it’s really cute if Ritsu can refer to his older brothers as Hiro-nii and Shige-nii 😊

     ( Optional ) Pre-Established First Interaction Rule
Sometimes even just knowing someones name can make interacting easier ! Nothing elaborate, it can quite literally be only knowing enough for after the very first meeting. If you ever want to send a meme or ask or starter but it seems a little too familiar, its okay, send it anyway. ( I’m also a non-linear RPer, so if you ever want to go back, thats absolutely encouraged ! ).
It’s fine to know:
About Ritsu’s powers. He isn’t discreet about their use, really, unless the situation calls for discretion. If asked, he’ll explain he’s an esper.
Ritsu’s full name ( Kageyama Ritsu ) as he is very formal and will introduce himself upon meeting. If given any nicknames, he will politely ask to be called just Ritsu. Every time.
What school he goes to, if familiar with the area. He’s often in his school uniform, so knowing he goes to Salt Mid isn’t far fetched. Knowing his age and year ( 13, 1st year ) is something he’ll tell too if asked.
About his brother, Shigeo/Mob, especially if the subject of powers and espers comes up.
Whether your character is rude or kind, he’ll remain cordial, if peeved ( maybe sassy/on edge if they’re REALLY bad ).
Its NOT fine to:
Know anything about Ritsu’s past. He’s not telling how he got his powers, or his tragic backstory (tm).
Know addresses. He won’t tell them where he lives or where he goes to school on his own- unless your muse happens to be a hero and he needed help getting to either place, then just mention that to me ... I mean he still won’t be happy if you roll up to his house but.
Touch him and expect him to be fine with it. If you want them to be friends, that’ll require more talking between muns. Ritsu doesn’t like being touched and will react accordingly, even if your muse is simply over familiar with everyone.
Have had a fight. That requires discussion, even if its not a fleshed out one.
At most, personally, I will assume Ritsu knows your muses full name in return ( unless stated somewhere in their about that they only go by an alias/wouldn’t share their name ), and ask any further questions if I have them.

The Night is the Hardest Time to be Alive (And 4am Knows All my Secrets) Chapter 3
Rating: T Pairing: Ritshou Summary: Ritsu and Shou have a much-needed talk. Crossposted to AO3: Chapter 3
Chapter 2
Here it is, the final chapter! It took a bit longer to write than I expected with finals and moving houses, but I really love how it turned out! I hope you all do too! This final chapter was beta read by @aerugonian, thank you friend!
Ritsu sleeps all morning.
He wakes up the next day to sunlight filtering in through the window at the back of the guest room, bathing him in late-morning light. Groaning softly to himself, he closes his eyes and shifts deeper under the thin blanket he’d fallen asleep with. He’s pleasantly warm and heavy, curled up on his side with his knees bent into his body and the blanket tucked under his chin. There’s no way for him to tell what time it is or how long he’s been asleep, but he knows that Shou is already awake and has left the room, judging by the quiet and the lack of any sort of detectable presence at his side.
After a few minutes of stubbornly clinging to the blanket, he sits up and rubs his eyes to banish the sleep from them. As he’d suspected, Shou is nowhere to be seen, but he’d folded up his blanket neatly and laid it at the edge of his futon. Ritsu suppresses a chuckle. He’s never imagined Shou to be the considerate type when it comes to being someone else’s house-guest, but then again, he’s always been careful not to leave a mess when he comes to keep Ritsu company.
Ritsu covers his mouth to hide a yawn, running a hand through his hair briefly as he pushes himself to his feet. He stretches his arms above his head and feels his back pop a few times, then checks the clock on the television receiver. It’s past ten in the morning, later than Ritsu’s slept in a very long time. It surprises him that no one has come to wake him up yet, even though it’s a weekend and he doesn’t have anywhere pressing to be. He can faintly hear his mother and brother downstairs, quietly chatting. Ah, I missed breakfast. I should probably get ready before Mom starts to wonder what’s going on, he thinks to himself, then bends down to fold his own blanket.
He’s nearly finished when the door cracks open and Shou comes in, wearing his clothes from the previous day. He has Ritsu’s pajamas bunched under his arm and his hair is a little messy from sleeping, coming across more wild instead of its usual intentional spikiness. “Oh, you’re finally awake. I was sure you’d be up before me,” he comments with a grin.
Ritsu hums in response, setting his folded blanket atop Shou’s. “You didn’t wake me up,” he accuses.
Shou laughs softly. “I didn’t wanna disturb you when you were finally sleeping. Besides, I had to get ready anyway, so I figured if you were still asleep when I came back I’d wake you then.” He passes Ritsu his pajamas with a quick thanks for letting him borrow them, then adds, “Your mom’s making breakfast, so hurry and get dressed, all right?”
Ritsu blinks in surprise. “Really? It’s past ten, Mom never waits that long,” he says. “Usually we get up pretty early to make breakfast, so I was planning on just making some eggs or something. I wonder what happened.” He straightens himself up, heading for the door. “I’ll just get dressed and brush my teeth really quick before we go down,” he tells Shou, heading for his bedroom. He hears Shou give a hum of confirmation as he does.
Ritsu slips into his bedroom and closes the door behind him, dropping Shou’s borrowed pajamas into a clothes hamper to be washed later, then quickly changes out of his own night clothes and into a T-shirt and jeans. His mind wanders as he does, going back to the previous night’s events. He feels surprisingly calm for having dumped all his emotional baggage on Shou, but now he’s starting to feel agitated for a whole different reason.
He’s never been good at telling people how he feels. It’s an unfortunate side-effect of the way he’s always watched himself around his brother, the careful methods he uses to avoid causing Shigeo any extra stress. In much of the same way Shigeo bottles up his emotions and refuses to let them be seen, Ritsu keeps his own feelings close and contained, not a wisp of them seeping through the cracks of his carefully-constructed walls. Even if he does eventually want to tell someone about his fears, he doesn’t know how.
His concern goes beyond his simple reluctance to confide in others, though. In his family, he’s the “good child,” the one who gets perfect grades and has plenty of friends and joins the student council because that’s what “good children” do. He doesn’t accidentally bend spoons and doesn’t struggle with his math homework. His parents don’t have to worry about him. They can focus on Shigeo, who can’t run a mile without fainting and who needs a little extra attention to succeed in his studies. They don’t have time to deal with Ritsu’s petty struggles. Because Ritsu is their “good child”, they can devote their energy to more important places.
With Shou, his reluctance comes from a similar source. Shou has more important things to do than to help Ritsu work through his personal issues. He needs to reconnect with his mother, keep tabs on what’s going to happen to his father, adjust to being back in school, remember what it’s like to make friends and have a social life. Ritsu’s traumas are likely to hit a little too close to home, considering how many of them are tied up in Touichirou’s attempt at world domination. He worries that confiding in Shou about his nightmares might cause him to feel guilty, however much Ritsu is certain that guilt isn’t deserved. He doesn’t want the feelings he’d let slip last night to affect the tentative friendship they’ve created, doesn’t want Shou to have to watch his step around him the way he does with his brother. Their friendship is comfortable, filled with light-hearted banter and impulsive decisions that always end up being worth it in the end, and he doesn’t want that to go away. Shou is the first person in a very long time that Ritsu’s trusted with information that he considers very personal about himself, and he really doesn’t want it to blow up in his face.
He shakes his head, banishing the thoughts from his mind, and tries to ignore the anticipatory dread that hangs over him like a storm cloud. He moves to the bathroom and quickly brushes his teeth, staring at his face in the mirror until any trace of his worry is gone. By the time he meets Shou at the stairs so they can head down to breakfast, he’s replaced it for a well-rehearsed smile. “How’d you sleep?” he asks as they descend the stairs.
“Like a baby,” Shou replies, stretching his arms over his head as the two of them approach the modest kitchen table.
Mrs. Kageyama has set up an extra place with a folding chair from the garage at the end of the table so all five of them can crowd around it for breakfast. Ritsu slips into his usual seat and Shou takes up shop around the table’s corner from him.
Shigeo looks up from his usual place as the two sit down. “Ah, Shou really did stay over,” he comments, a characteristically small, kind smile on his face.
“Storm was really bad last night, I got rained in,” Shou explains.
“Thanks for waiting, Mom,” Ritsu says with a smile. “You didn’t need to, we could have made eggs or something.”
Mrs. Kageyama stands at the stove, making what appear to be pancakes. “Oh, don’t worry about it,” she assures, plating a golden brown pancake and ladling out another onto the pan. “It’s a weekend and we have a guest, so I don’t mind starting the day a bit later than usual just this once.”
Mr. Kageyama joins them at the table as his wife is finishing up, greeting them with a hearty hello. Breakfast is a bit noisier and more energetic with the addition of an extra person to their routine, but Ritsu finds that it’s quite nice to see Shou interacting with his parents in a situation that isn’t secretly life-or-death. Shou is as exuberant and boisterous as he always is, and he and Ritsu’s father seem to hit it off almost immediately. Mrs. Kageyama seems to have taken a fondness to Shou as well, politely interjecting to ask about his school, his friends, what he likes to do. Ritsu’s somewhat surprised, since Shou is kind of the opposite of the straight-laced, obedient kids his mother usually prefers.
He doesn’t comment on it, just sits back and listens with a smile on his face as Shou does the talking for the rest of them. Breakfast is a success, and once they’ve had their fill and washed their dishes, Ritsu and Shou retreat back upstairs so Shou can gather up his things and make his way home now that the rain has passed.
Ritsu closes the door behind them as they slip into his room, moving to sit down on the edge of his bed. Shou grabs his phone from off of Ritsu’s desk and slides it into his pocket, checking to make sure he has his wallet and keys. Then he pauses. Ritsu’s not sure why. There’s nothing really keeping him here anymore, and even if it’s a weekend, Shou’s already been here all night. Ritsu fidgets on the edge of the bed, waiting to see what Shou will do or say. The air feels suddenly thicker than it did before.
They haven’t talked about last night.
Ritsu feels a flash of embarrassment at just the thought, and wills himself to stop the blush before it reaches his face. He keeps his gaze fixed resolutely on his phone, avoiding looking at Shou as the other boy stands in the middle of his room.
“Did you sleep well last night?” Shou asks suddenly, breaking the silence. Ritsu sees him turn to look at him in his periphery.
He fights the urge to flinch under Shou’s scrutiny. “I slept fine,” he replies, rehearsed, impersonal. The kind of answer Shigeo always responds with when Ritsu asks him if he needs to talk. A deflection. It’s not a lie, he really did sleep fine, but it feels like one anyway.
Shou lets out a soft, almost bitter laugh, crossing the distance between where he’s standing and Ritsu’s bed in one step. “I get them too, you know,” he says, standing just a few inches away from where Ritsu’s legs hang off the edge of his bed.
Ritsu finally looks up from his phone, feeling his heart rate pick up, but he still can’t quite meet Shou’ eyes, his gaze falling on the collar of the jacket around his neck. Shou has noticed the stiff reply, apparently. Something about the way his bright blue eyes pierce him makes him feel like Shou can read his very thoughts if he wants to. “You do?” he says after a moment, though he supposes it’s only to be expected that Shou would also have painful memories from the whole ordeal with his father that would manifest in unpleasant dreams and visions.
“Yeah. Not all the time, but often enough,” Shou replies, running a hand through his hair.
Ritsu chances a glance at Shou’s face and finds him staring back unflinchingly. He swallows, resisting the urge to immediately break the eye contact. He doesn’t know how to reply, so he just says, “Oh.”
Shou sighs. Ritsu sees the way he purses his lips and shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans, fidgeting the way he does when he can’t seem to sit still. He’s stiff, too, a stubborn set to his shoulders and a crease in his brow.
“Er, are you alright?” Ritsu asks.
Shou blinks, as though he’s surprised. “Me? You’re the one who's acting all touchy,” he accuses. Then he backpedals, looking a little regretful. “Never mind that. Are we gonna talk about last night?”
Oh. So that’s what this is about, Ritsu thinks, feeling an uncomfortable sensation constrict his throat and form a weight in his stomach. He looks back down at his phone, unwilling to trust himself with maintaining eye contact with Shou. “What about it?” he asks, trying to come across as casual as possible.
Shou slaps his forehead with the palm of his hand, startling Ritsu, who drops his phone on the floor in a rare burst of clumsiness. Then he drags his hand down his face. “Come on, Ritsu, we’re way past acting dumb,” he says, his voice tangibly annoyed. “Look, I get that you don’t like talking about your feelings or whatever, and that’s fine. Neither do I. But we can’t just pretend like it never happened.” His shoulders lift somewhat, defensive.
Ritsu suppresses a sigh, and doesn’t bother picking up his phone from off the ground. He leans forward so his elbows are balanced on his knees, and lets his hands hang limp between them. He turns his gaze to the ground, staring at the space between his feet. “I know,” he admits quietly, “It’s just… I’ve never talked about this to anyone. It’s uncomfortable.”
Shou falls quiet for a moment, then Ritsu hears the shuffle of shoes on the floor and sees the bends of Shou’s knees as he crouches down in front of him. The edges of his green and yellow jacket are barely in view, the front of it hanging open and exposing the T-shirt underneath. Ritsu stares at the little metal zipper at the end of one corner to distract himself.
“Look, Ritsu. I know both of us are pretty shitty about talking about how we feel. I’m not gonna bother asking why you don’t, ‘cause I know you probably don’t want to tell me right now,” Shou begins, never one to beat around the bush, “but you can probably guess why I don’t. I didn’t exactly have a lot of good adults in my life to talk to, and that kind of stuff can really mess you up.” He pauses, swallows, and then looks away, looking more unsure and embarrassed than Ritsu’s every really seen him. Shou continues, after a beat, “The point it, we’re both kind of emotionally stagnant. It’s been a really long time since I’ve had a real friend. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever had one. You’re my friend, Ritsu, my best friend. You stuck with me even after I dragged you into my family’s melodrama. It means a lot that you went so far for me, more than you probably think it does. Even though we were basically strangers, you still stuck your neck out for me.” His voice quiets a bit at the end, his voice taking on a sincere and emotional edge. He swallows again, gives his head a little shake. “My point is, I’m invested in you now. You were there for me, so I’m gonna be here for you now. I plan on sticking around as long as you let me, so just… will you make a promise with me?”
Ritsu feels a familiar blush creep up onto his face as he listens to Shou speak, still unable to quite meet his eyes. Shou’s gaze is filled to the brim with sincerity and honesty and concern and affection, of all things, and as much as Ritsu wants to run and hide and pretend this whole ordeal never happened because he’s not equipped to deal with his own emotions, he finds himself rooted in place. “What kind of promise?” he says after a moment, when he can slow down his thoughts enough to reply.
“Let’s promise to try to be honest and open with each other. Let’s agree that we’re both a little emotionally fucked up but that we can talk to each other whenever we need to,” Shou says. “That’s what friends do, right? Then, if we do that, we won’t have to get into another argument like we did last night.” His voice wavers, as though he’s uncertain if this is actually what friends do, but his expression reads confident and serious. He means everything he says.
Ritsu bites his bottom lip, feeling a weird but not unwanted warmth bloom in the center of his chest. As much as he doesn’t really enjoy talking about this kind of stuff, he can’t deny that Shou has a point. It’s been a while since he’s had a true friend, between the way he’s avoided Shigeo and the put-together persona he upholds at school. Still, he feels like Shou is different from other friends he’s had, even before going into middle school. The thought makes the warmth in his chest spread up to his face, and he feels his heartbeat jump in response. Oh, he thinks to himself. Realization falls over him like a blanket, weighing down on his shoulders in a comfortable way. So that’s how it is. He raises his head and manages to offer Shou a small but truthful smile. “Alright. I promise,” he says softly, so softly that he barely hears himself. “Don’t go running away when I hold you to it, though.”
Shou relaxes visibly at this, the crease in his brow smoothing over, and he lets out a brief chuckle. “Nah, I wouldn’t dream of it,” he replies, straightening up from the crouched position he’d held for the last several minutes. “Thanks for going along with my weirdness. It makes me feel better, after yesterday.” He glances away, and Ritsu is surprised to see his face flush pink in a distinctively pleased way. “I know I joke around a lot and probably don’t act very serious most of the time, but… I really do care about you,” he continues, nearly stumbling over his words as he says them. “So, y’know, just don’t forget about that. Anyway, I should probably get home soon, my mom’s probably worried.” He walks briskly over to the window and cracks it open, as though he can’t just go through the front door downstairs.
Ritsu cracks a smile at the odd but now-familiar habit Shou’s formed. “Yeah, you wouldn’t want to make her wait much longer,” he agrees, standing up himself and going to the window to see Shou out.
Shou steps up onto the windowsill and eases himself outside, his aura flaring up around him as he hovers just outside Ritsu’s window. “Well, I’ll see you later,” he says, lifting a hand in farewell. As he turns to leave, though, Ritsu stops him.
“Wait,” he says, and Shou pauses and looks over his shoulder, curious. Ritsu swallows, shuffling on his feet for a moment. “There’s something I need to give you before you go,” he continues, and god, this feels like such a bad idea, but it’s too late now.
Shou quirks a brow, hovering just an inch away from the windowsill. “Really? What?”
Ritsu can feel the blush crawling up his neck again. He really hopes he won’t regret it. “I-It’s kind of embarrassing, so close your eyes,” he instructs, less of a request and more of an order.
“Weird, but okay,” Shou says slowly, clearly uncertain about where this is going, but he complies, closing his eyes and holding out his hand in a way that Ritsu finds alarmingly endearing.
His breath stutters in his throat for a moment, and he hesitates, contemplating just calling the whole thing off and pretending it’s a prank or something. Shou won’t fall for it, though, he knows, so he steals his nerve and reaches out with both hands, grabs Shou by the front of his unzipped jacket, and pulls him down into a clumsy kiss before he can argue himself out of it. He screws his eyes shut so tightly that his brow wrinkles, completely aware of the fact that he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.
Shou goes stiff as soon as their lips make contact, sucking in a sharp, shocked breath through the corners of his mouth. Ritsu feels their teeth clack together in his rushed motion, feels the shiver that shakes him down to his fingertips.
The kiss is brief and clumsy and not at all the picturesque first kiss Ritsu has always secretly imagined, but it still sends a thrill down his spine in a markedly satisfying way. He pulls back carefully, and when he finally peeks his eyes open to see Shou’s reaction, he instead finds empty air in front of him. For a moment he panics, a rush of intense regret washing over him, but when he shifts his grip he can still feel the collar of Shou’s jacket in his hands.
He blinks, stunned silent. “Did you just turn invisible because I kissed you?” he blurts without thinking, eyes wide with surprise at this unexpected turn of events. He releases Shou’s jacket, nothing left to prove that the boy was even still there.
Shou shifts back into view, face bright red. “I didn’t mean too, it just happened!” he sputters, raising a hand to cover his nose and mouth in a decidedly self-conscious manner. “It’s your fault for surprising me like that!”
Ritsu finds himself speechless for another few seconds, then a giggle bubbles up in his throat that he can’t hide. He breaks into a fit of laughter, leaning over the windowsill in his mirth. “Y-You were so surprised that you turned invisible! Who does that?” he manages between unstifled laughter, raising a hand to push his hair out of his face. Tears prick at the corners of his eyes.
“Hey!” Shou exclaims, indignant. “It’s perfectly natural to be surprised! How about I do it to you, see how you react?” he challenges.
“What?” Ritsu manages, but is unable to say anything more because Shou grabs him roughly by the juncture between his neck and shoulder and pulls him in for another kiss.
Ritsu lets out an undignified squeak of surprise, his own game turned back on him, but this time he’s quick to lean into it. A smile tugs at the corners of his mouth as he tilts his head slightly and braces his hands on the windowsill to keep his balance. He pushes back against Shou cautiously, feeling that warmth come back again and settle comfortably in his chest.
When Shou finally breaks the kiss, Ritsu pulls back just a fraction and says, “You’re right, that was pretty surprising.”
Shou’s red-faced still, his eyes half-lidded as though in a daze. He blinks at Ritsu’s voice, eyes opening fully, and Ritsu can see him fighting a smile of his own as he attempts to act offended. “Now you know what it’s like,” he says, an attempt to scold him, but there’s no real bite to his words. “That was, er, that was good, right? I liked that,” he adds, uncertain.
Ritsu feels a dopey grin form on his face, and his bites his bottom lip as if it can hide his obviously pleased response. “Yeah, it was. I liked it, too,” he says. He can’t seem to keep the smile off his face, but even so, he can’t really bring himself to care. He’ll probably be embarrassed later, but it was worth it. He takes a small step away from the window, heart still racing, then clears his throat, raising a hand to wave goodbye. “Well, that was all I wanted to give you. Be safe getting home, okay? And tell your mom I said hello.”
Shou nods, offering him a quick grin. “Yeah, will do,” he replies, slipping his hands into the pockets of his jacket. He holds Ritsu’s gaze for a moment longer, then floats back a ways from the open window. “Well, I’ll see you around then.” With one last smile and a brief wave, Shou turns and disappears from sight, his invisibility enveloping him once again - this time intentionally.
Ritsu watches him go, then slides the window closed, turning the lock shut. He feels lighter now, like a weight he hadn’t realized was there has been lifted. He stares out the window for a moment, the bright late-morning sun casting shadows through the open blinds. The ground outside is damp from last night’s rain, and the post-storm sunlight makes it shine in a calming way. It’s as though the world has been cleansed, refreshed, the smell of wet grass and the humidity in the air banishing the sense of dread and regret from the atmosphere.
He feels lighter, but he knows that things won’t be fixed with only one conversation. He suspects he’ll probably never truly get rid of the trauma that’s clinging to him, even as it fades over time, but it makes him feel just a bit better that someone else has his back, no matter what. It’s comforting to have that kind of support from someone who knows exactly what he’s going through, even if it’s still pretty intimidating to talk about it aloud. But that’s all okay.
They’ll be alright, eventually. Ritsu is certain of it.

The Psychic Turnabout
ao3 | ffnet
"...Why was his case turned down?"
"Because the killer was a ghost, and Shishou was possessed."
A heavy silence hung in the air. Mob looked anywhere but at Nick and Maya, who exchanged a glance with one another, and they knew they were both thinking the same thing.
Goddammit, again?

October 13th, 9:27 AM Wright Anything Agency
It was the first time in a while that things were starting to feel... normal.
After coming home from Khura'in, things at the Wright Anything Agency had been pretty weird. Apollo being halfway across the globe was weird. Trucy throwing herself into her magician work to take her mind off Apollo and being away from the office for days at a time was weird. Athena talking twice as much and three times as loud to fill the silence in the office was sweet – but still weird. It gave Nick a creeping feeling of familiarity, and he remembered the way his office gradually emptied out nine years ago after he was disbarred. It made it hard to sit at his desk most mornings.
But then there was Maya, and Maya wasn't weird at all. Even after three years absence, Maya was as much a fixture of the place as Wright Anything Agency as any of its agents, having predated all of them – even good ol' Charley, the eternal office mascot, had been picked out by Maya herself when her sister had first furnished the office. Whenever she had time away from her duties as master of Kurain village, she came down to visit the office. And like some kind of balm, her presence always managed to soothe whatever was ailing the little Agency.
Today, Trucy had a show, as was usual lately. She'd dragged poor Athena off to fulfill her harrowing duty as magician's assistant, leaving Nick alone to hold down the fort. But when Maya dropped by with her usual warning (none) and her favorite watering can for Charley, any loneliness Nick felt slowly started to ebb away. The morning was starting slow without any calls from clients, and as Nick stared out the office window at the hotel across the street, Maya's favorite old Steel Samurai DVD playing on the office TV, he felt twenty four and content again.
Things were finally starting to feel normal, and that should have been the first warning.
"Hey, Nick?"
He was brought out of his reverie with a start and glanced over at where Maya had moved from the couch to the far window, staring down at the street with a frown.
"What's up?" Nick asked, stifling a yawn as he stood to his feet and peered over her shoulder.
Maya squinted a little in reply. "Hmm."
"Hmm?"
"Hmm. That kid's been standing in front of the building for a while now."
Nick followed her gaze down to the sidewalk in front of their office building to see a bobbing head of dark hair, shuffling about uncertainly by the entrance. The two of them watched for a minute, but any time the kid looked like they might actually walk inside, they seemed to change their mind and fiddled with a piece of paper instead.
"Maybe we should go down and say something," Maya pondered. "Ask them what the trouble is."
Nick shrugged, glancing at Maya. "Wouldn't that be a little nosy?"
Maya shook her head emphatically. "Of course not! We're just two concerned citizens looking out for a poor, lost kid. Aren't you like the world's biggest softie for kids in trouble, anyway?"
Nick rolled his eyes. "I'm not that bad. Besides, you don't even know if the kid's lost."
"But they could be! Or maybe they might even be a client, trying to make the fateful decision of whether or not to put their life into the hands of the infamous Phoenix Wright."
"Or maybe they're just waiting to meet someone in front of the building." He frowned. "Wait, 'infamous'?"
Maya pouted. "You have no imagination, Nick."
"Ah- I guess it doesn't matter now," Nick mumbled, looking down at the now empty sidewalk. "They're gone."
Maya sighed. "Damn. And just when I thought we were gonna–"
The two of them jumped out of their skin as a knock sounded from the office door, and Maya whipped around to shoot Nick a grin equal parts smug and delighted. Nick bit back a smile of his own and quickly dove for the TV remote, shutting off the Steel Samurai special, while Maya grabbed a random law book from the shelf and tried to look busy. Then they shared a nod, and Nick opened the door with his best professional smile.
"Welcome to the Wright Anything Agency," he said cheerfully. "Come on in."
The boy who stood in the door was indeed the very same one from the street, still wearing his middle school uniform and carrying a backpack on his shoulder and a slightly crumpled sheet of paper in his hand. His hair was dark and straight and worn in a bowlcut, with his bangs hanging a little in his eyes. He seemed hesitant to cross the threshold into the office, but after a moment's thought, he nodded politely and took a step forward, glancing around the room without a word.
Maya looked up sharply, the book dangling from her hand, forgotten along with her favorite studious legal assistant routine. Her eyes widened as she looked at the kid, gaping a little. It wasn't until he caught her eye and started to look flustered that she finally seemed to snap out of it, smoothing over her expression. "Oh– hello there!" she said cordially. "Maya Fey, spirit channeler and legal assistant extraordinaire at your service." She held out a hand to the boy, whose face seemed to light up a little at her words.
"Um... I'm Kageyama Shigeo," he said, taking her hand hesitantly. "But most people call me Mob. It's nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you, too, Mob!" Maya broke into a wide smile and gestured to one of the couches in the center of the office. "Please, have a seat!"
Mob gingerly moved a plate of floating spaghetti from the cushion and sat down.
Nick and Maya sat across from him on the other couch, waiting expectantly. But Mob said nothing, instead looking curiously past the two of them at some point above their heads. Nick glanced over his shoulder, but there wasn't anything there.
That seemed to shake Mob from his thoughts and he met Nick's eye with an unexpected intensity – or perhaps it was the lack of intensity that was unexpected, because Mob's face was awfully blank, despite the sensation that the boy could see straight through you. It made Nick's hairs stand on end a little, and by Maya's quiet intake of breath, he suspected she felt the same.
"W-What can we do for you?" Nick asked, clearing his throat.
Mob pondered this for a moment, glancing down at the paper in his hands. "Well... I need a lawyer," he began slowly, "but I'm afraid you might not take my case."
Nick blinked. A lawyer...? For a middle schooler?
"Well good news!" Maya said cheerfully. "Nick here will take on any case, really. One time he represented a whale. He's not very picky."
Nick grimaced, but that seemed to get a small smile out of Mob.
"What Maya means to say," Nick sighed, "is that the Wright Anything Agency will do... well... anything you need us to do. You can count on us!"
Mob nodded slowly, and it didn't occur to Nick how stiffly the boy had been holding himself until Nick saw his shoulders start to relax as if his whole body had sighed in relief. "Thank you," he said. "Then I'll tell you my story, if that's okay."
Nick and Maya leaned in closer, nodding in encouragement.
Mob took a deep breath and said, "I work at the Spirits and Such Consultation Office."
Nick stiffened and glanced at Maya out of the corner of his eye. As master of the Kurainese technique of spirit channeling, Nick knew she was particularly sensitive when it came to phony mediums, psychics, and the like. It was an affront to her culture and her beliefs. But strangely, she nodded him on, quite literally on the edge of her seat.
Mob continued, "My Shishou is a psychic named Reigen Arataka. I perform exorcisms for him sometimes, but last night he went on a job alone." His eyes flickered like he was glancing at something on his left, but it was so quick, Nick thought he might have imagined it. "Since it's Friday the thirteenth, we get a lot of prank calls and false alarms from the evening before into the morning after, so I usually don't need to come into work during that time."
Maya's eyes were like saucers. "You... exorcise spirits?"
Mob nodded timidly. "I'm an esper as well. I can't do any kind of seances or channellings like you, though," he added, glancing at Maya.
Maya chewed her lip, but didn't say anything more.
Mob cleared his throat and plowed onwards, squirming a little in his seat. "I... know Shishou went to answer a call from last night about a haunted house, but late last night on the news, they were saying he..." He frowned a little, his fingers leaving more and more creases in the paper as his grip tightened. Nick felt the hair begin to stand on the back of his head for reasons he couldn't quite explain, and when he glanced at Maya, he saw that she had turned a little pale.
But after a moment, the strange pressure in the air subsided and Mob's expression evened out once again. "They were saying someone had been arrested for a murder at the house Shishou went to. When my brother and I went to the police station to ask about it, they said Shishou was the one who had been arrested."
Nick's heart sank. "So then your boss, he needs a lawyer because he's been charged with murder?"
"Yes."
"And you think there's no way he could have done it?"
Mob rubbed his chin in thought. "....................................................No, he couldn't have."
"That was a really long pause, kid! Are you sure you believe in him?"
"I do."
Nick was a little startled by the matter-of-fact response. That time, Mob didn't hesitate. "Shishou would never harm another person. I know he didn't hurt anyone." He said it with the same kind of mild mannered honesty Nick might use if someone asked if he was sure that Maya had watered Charley today. The answer seemed obvious. Nick nodded slowly, and Mob continued. "So I went to the detention center this morning to ask him what happened, and he said..." Mob hesitated, glancing at Nick uncertainly. When he spoke again, he changed gears. "He said Serizawa-san was looking for a lawyer. So I called Serizawa-san and asked if he'd found one, and he said he'd been turned down by every one he called."
Nick's chest tightened as he looked a little more closely at Mob's eyes, half hidden under his bangs. Dark circles hung beneath them like bruises. The kid obviously cared a lot about his mentor.
He glanced over at the space beneath his window at the ghost of an eleven year old bloodstain that had never quite come out of the carpet.
"...Why was his case turned down?" he finally asked, turning back to Mob.
Mob fiddled idly with the paper in his hand, nearly crumpling it beyond recovery. "Because..." He took another deep breath. "Because the killer was a ghost, and Shishou was possessed."
A heavy silence hung in the air. Mob looked anywhere but at Nick and Maya, who exchanged a glance with one another, and they knew they were both thinking the same thing.
Goddammit, again?
After a moment, Mob cleared his throat nervously. "I-I came to you because of this," he said, holding out the now nearly illegible paper. But when Nick took it, he recognized the photograph at the top of the page as one of Dahlia Hawthorne.
"I was looking for other lawyers who might be espers," he explained, a little sheepish, "but I found that article about a spirit testifying in court with the help of a medium." Mob's earnest gaze turned to Maya. "I thought if anyone would believe me, it would be you."
Maya looked at the picture of Dahlia, eyes narrowed. "Ah."
Mob started to fidget again and turned to Nick. "I-I don't have much money, but I'm sure Shishou would be able to pay whatever fee you need."
Nick hesitated. Just the memory of Dahlia and Iris's trial was already starting to make him feel ill, even before they'd started looking for any spirits. And if he felt ill, he knew Maya must have felt even shittier. "Well... I don't kn–"
"Please."
And suddenly that pressure was in the air again, sending a chill down Nick's spine. But as Mob scrambled off the couch and lowered his nose to the floor, a lump rose in Nick's throat. The poor kid was trembling. "I know this is a lot to ask," Mob said quietly, his voice muffled by the carpet, "a-and I promise after this is over, we won't bother your agency again. But please. I... don't know what else to do."
Before Nick could speak, Maya walked over to kneel beside Mob and gently laid a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, Mob?"
Mob looked up nervously, and Maya coaxed him into sitting up straight. "Remember our name?"
"...The Wright Anything Agency?"
"That's right. And that means we'll do anything to prove our clients innocent." She winked. "Even a little ghost hunting."
Mob's eyes went wide. "Then you'll-?!"
"We'll take the case," Nick said firmly, kneeling down at Mob's other side. He smiled warmly, helping Mob back up to his feet. "Your boss must be a good guy if he's got somebody like you working for him."
Mob's face turned pink and he stammered out a polite denial, brushing the dust off his pant legs. Nick grimaced, making a mental note to vacuum the carpet in the office ASAP.
"T-Thank you," Mob said, bowing low, his voice suddenly effused with an unexpected warmth. "I can take you to Shishou, if you want."
"Give me just a second to lock up," Nick said, "we'll meet you downstairs."
Mob nodded and bowed again, then scurried off down the hall.
When he was out of sight, Nick turned to Maya and laid a hand on her shoulder. "You okay with this?" he asked quietly, frowning. "Like... really okay?"
Maya nodded, grinning. "Especially since I was right about you being a big ol' softie for kids in trouble."
Nick rolled his eyes. "Whatever," he mumbled. "Even if we're defending a fake psychic, though?"
Maya blinked. "Fake? What do you mean?"
"...Not real? Unless the definition of 'fake' has changed since the last time I read the dictionary."
She gaped at him. "Nick, are you serious right now? Like really really for real? You couldn't feel it when he walked in the door?"
"Feel what?"
"He's a real psychic, you dummy!"
Nick raised an eyebrow, looking back at the doorway where Mob had just disappeared.
Well, he thought tiredly, so much for being back to normal.
