Waking up is hard. And not because it’s a physically straining task necessarily, just because you’re never sure if he’s going to still be there or not. Or at least that’s how it is for Billy. Fortunately he is always there which makes getting up a lot easier. That is if it wasn’t for that street traffic you can hear from inside the apartment but, when it’s with him it’s a little less difficult.

This morning was no different. He was here. He was the kind of guy who’d make you forget you even have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. The chance of falling back to sleep though is what’s always the scary part. Whether or not he’ll leave then. And that’s what happened today. He was gone.

Billy with his hands messing with his soft hair and their king sized comforter wrapped around him made his way to the kitchen. On the kitchen floor laid a note which probably flew off the counter due to the window being left open. Billy read the note to himself.

“Dear Billy,

Please don’t panic. You were really cute sleeping and I didn’t have the heart to wake you. I’ve left to go to the store. Honestly, I should be back before you wake up so you don’t even have to read this letter but I’m leaving you a list of important things to remember and read while I’m gone. I’ve included it on its own paper because it’s probably too long.

Yours, Teddy”

Billy shook his head. He was still super sleepy. He looked on the counter and found another sheet of paper folded in half that says “To my favourite Billy.” with a little heart on it. Billy smiled thinking about Teddy writing that. After taking a seat on the floor, he opened the weathered piece of paper that was filled with nicely written things. Billy scanned over each edge of the paper before starting to read each statement. In one of the top corners of the page was a date that he remembered to be their year anniversary. After scanning the front and back of the page, he finally convinced his sleepy head to read each sentence.

“There’s something special about some people we meet in our lives. Well, everyone has something special about them but others are something more. Have you ever meet someone who proves to be to that something more to you?” Billy tilted his head confused as to who Teddy could be talking about but continued to read.

“Everything I’ve ever done in my life is nothing in comparison to what my something more has done for me. So as a present for you, Billy, as it is our first anniversary, I’m letting you know how much you mean to mean since you’re kind enough to let me know how much I mean to you.”Billy, who has slowly slid a bit away from the kitchen wall he was using for support, was shocked at the fact he’s never read this letter before. While contemplating what he’s read so far, he heard something outside the apartment hit the floor. It was Teddy’s keys. Billy, who was a mess after just reading half the letter thought it was best to pretend to be asleep on the kitchen floor for when Teddy came through the door.

Teddy on the other hand, who was eager to get home was surprised to find Billy asleep on the kitchen floor holding on to the letter with both hands. Teddy smiled a bit, happy to see him. Lifting Billy, along with the blanket, he brought him back to the bedroom laying him on the bed and made his way back towards the door of the bedroom to get back to the kitchen to put groceries away.

“You know you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me?” Teddy heard muffled from the lump of covers he just put on the bed. “Were you pretending to be asleep just so I could carry you to bed?” Teddy asked, making his way over to the bed, putting his two hands on it, and leaning towards Billy. “I asked first.” said the muffled covers. Teddy laughed and pulled the covers off his face. “Well, if I told you’re the best thing to happen to me too would you come help me put away the groceries? Either way I mean it but..” Billy interrupted. “If that’s the case then if I tell you you’re the best thing that’s happened to me would you come back to bed?” Teddy smiled. Something about this invitation made him want to do nothing but comply with what Billy was saying.I guess those groceries can wait.
