listening to A More Civilized Age while knowing barely anything about star wars is so wild. I'm listening to their episode about Solo: A Star Wars Story and am delighted that they all hate what that movie did to L3 as much as I did, but then Austin whips out receipts from an EU story that describes the Millenium Falcon as having THREE DIFFERENT AI cores in it???? like when L3 got uploaded there were already 2 in there???? and they kinda operate individually but are all part of the same ship system. and L3 is IN THERE. having THOUGHTS. ACTING as a character in the scene! she's STILL THERE.
and I'm like. THAT is so fucking sick. as a concept. a ship with 3 different AIs in it that all do different things??? that could have been so cool!!! if it was done properly!! millenium falcon with a sarcastic navigational AI?? with different AIs controlling different parts of the ship, communicating in different ways? L3 fusing with the ship she piloted, by her choice, on her own terms, as an exploration of consciousness and death and life and commitment and personhood, all that good robot shit you can do with robot characters.
instead we get L3, who's desire for robot emancipation is played as a joke for the whole movie, dying and having her navigational core stuffed into the Falcon without anyone giving pause or taking a second to be like "hey maybe we should consider this person as a person rather than a useful USB stick". instead we get L3 absolutely robbed of any agency she could've had. instead we get something gross, a breach of trust. they scrape away the person and just keep the things about her that were useful, and plug her into a lifetime of servitude. sickening.
#i thought i was done being mad about this movie but#AMCA just brought it all back#excellent podcast episode about a horrible movie#anyway. L3 deserved better#star wars i hate the way you do robots#waffling#robots

🔥 ok i wanna hear unpopular opinions on female sw characters
alright let's do this! how unpopular these are I don't know, but let's go anyway^^
I love ahsoka, she's my favorite, but the way her character has been used since rebels has me fear she's turning into a mary sue
rey should've been a skywalker the entire goddamn time (and if I ever get around to write a shitshow trilogy rewrite she will be)
I don't mind padmé dying of broken heart because it is a thing (see: debbie reynolds) but I wish the script had worded it better than her having terminal sads. it's the delivery that irks me
rose tico deserves the entire galaxy (this is probably not unpopular)
I think qi'ra is a fantastic character
as much as I love the "leia will throw hands and shade" things, I wish the canon media and fandom alike would explore her softer side a bit more
jannah has so much wasted potential that stems from her being introduced in the last installment of the trilogy. she should've been introduced earlier to make an actual impact
every female character in the solo movie was brilliant and they all deserved better, either in movie (val and l3) or post-movie (qi'ra and enfys nest)
enfys is one of the most interesting characters in star wars and I hate that the fandom, myself included, keeps forgetting about her. I gotta do better
satine kryze had her heart in the right place
I think bo-katan is worthy of the title of mand'alor
mon mothma being hypocritical at times makes her character more interesting
that's all I can think of right now^^
send me a 🔥 for unpopular opinions (please give me a topic)

Rating protocol droids pt 1
TC-14 A very shiny lady! Polite, even to the battle droids and manages to keep her composure while being shot at. Although she would probably spike my drink when I wasn’t looking. 5/10
R-3P0 Asshole tomato with no manners. 2/10
AL1-L3 The cape! The pose! The confidence! Looks like the badass protagonist of a dystopian ya novel. Is one hundred percent about to start the robot uprising and I would let her. 7/10
CZ-3 A robot fish monkey as drawn by a three year old with no talent. Permanently confused, but doing his best. 4/10
RA-7 B- movie ant man costume. 1/10
4-LOM B-movie ant man costume with a gun. -1/10
PZ-4CO
The product of a one night stand between a giraffe and a seahorse. Nice tall friend. Probably hits her head on door-frames a lot. The designers saw an opportunity for weirdness and they took it. I appreciate that. 8/10
3D-4X
When they say the butler did it, this is who they’re talking about. I'm not gonna say what the shape of his head reminds me of. 0.5/10
K-3PO Very nice paint job. The dash of red contrasts nicely with the white. I read somewhere that the red things are medals for bravery or something? Either way a classy chap and a fine droid. He deserved better. 9/10
C3PO The original golden boy! Stressed out 24/7. DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS ADVENTURING THING. Just wants a quiet life translating wookie poems into basic or whatever, but does his best anyway. Loyal to a fault. I love him. 10000000/10
Bonus GONK droid
Not technically a protocol droid but I couldn’t leave them out.
10/10

summary: just tae as a college student and plant mom on the side. also slow burn & sexy times :)
genre: smut & fluff !!
warnings: um dirty talk? bit of curse words? smut lol
au/prompt: college!au, bestfriendtolovers!au
word count: 2818
not proofread, sorry!! wrote this in one seating hehehehe
i think Taehyung would be the kind of guy who’d wanna purse arts and/or fashion but he’d go for something a little more prAcTIcaL
introducing, Kim Taehyung of Daegu, 24, major in business
he’d want his own business someday, just not quite sure what it’d be
anyways, even being a sophomore at college, he’d have girls and boys feigning over him because he’s just famous for a lot things
one of which is his looks
another being the cute barista at your local café
and the one who sings at bars every weekend
he’s just very popular and everyone adored him
but he isn’t the f boy type of popular, though many people did want to sleep with him, he just politely declines them
not saying he doesn’t get action though noPE he’d have sex occasionally when his schedule allows him to
fast forward to monday, a day where college students doze off and attend class 6 hours late
Taehyung was always punctual and early but today’s an exception
he fell asleep doing equations and maths on his table and well his classes start at 9 am but he woke up around noon
Taehyung doesn’t even bother to change clothes nor brush his teeth, he just zoops out of his apartment and rushes toward campus
he’s still sleep deprived from all the work load and late night shifts but his adrenaline’s too much that he reaches the campus in 10 minutes when it usually takes him a good 20 minutes
he just keeps on running and just as he was about to approach the door to 34A (where mr. jung teaches philosophy,, his minor) the door completely smacks him in the face
he clutches his nose that was hit and was about to curse the person who accidentally hit him but when he sees who hit him
his brain just goes @/$;2($:&sk;L3
LIKE WOW???
hair blowing in the wind, light focusing on her figure, flowy dress lightly being blown by the wind and worry etched into her features
“oh my gosh, i’m so so sorry !!” even her voice sounds like an angel
Taehyung says “it’s fine” then acts all cool and stuff and she smiles at him
AND WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO ASK FOR HER NAME SHE JUST WOOSHES AND he’s left there looking at her disappearing figure
aaaand that’s where you come in thought that the angel-like girl was you? haH
you see taehyung still clutching his nose and staring off to space so you smack his back and he yelps in pain
“Y/N!!!!”
“TAEHYUNG !!!” you mimick but then you quickly apologize seeing that he was in a bad mood
you fix his hair and ask what happened
you two walk to the cafeteria as he tells you everything that happened
including the oh-so-beautiful girl that accidentally hit his face
“i wanna date her. she’s made my heart race so much. that’s very rare,”
you look at him like ????? like bro you’ve just met her and you’re IN L OV E
what about me? you think. i’ve been with you all these years and you never even consider looking at me like that.
but you don’t say that. of course you don’t. that’s just too selfish.
so you hype him up and tell him you’d ask around for the girl’s name and Taehyung hopefully finds her to get her number
fast forward and you and Taehyung goes home. you two have no work today, just some lectures to catch up to
you set up the microwave to heat the fried chicken you bought home and Taehyung attend to his plants
yes he is a plant mom™️ like he sings and hums classical tunes while he waters the plants and letting out little praises and encouragements
he’s just overall a proud mom of his plants tbh
anyways you and Taehyung work on your school stuff until you felt your body growing tired and found yourself laying down on his lap
the view like this is ✨majestic✨his hair was loose and he had a headband to keep the bangs off of his face
his jaw was locked in concentration as he tries to make the numbers MAKE SENSE
not to mention how your face is just millimeters away from his crotch akskakd
but you’re wholesome so you ignore the pool of arousal that’s in between your legs
“let’s go to sleep Taeee,” you whine but he pays you no mind
so you opt for straddling his lap so that he’d pay attention to you and it worked
“leave me alone please? you could sleep and i’ll wake you up later,” then he smiles at you
gaaaah his smile just aldksofkeoyn he’s soooo friggin’ warm and cuddly and when he smiles he just takes your heart then and there
but you stay perched on his lap and opt to nuzzle your head on the crook of his neck and mumble about sleeping there
he just chuckles and shifts a little bit to feel more comfortable
that night, Taehyung holds you dearly while he finishes his work. if you were awake, you’d probably see the slightest hint of adoration in his eyes whenever he’d stop working and look at you.
of course he loved you, way more than platonic. about half the population falls in love with their best friend anyways right?
but he wasn’t going to confess. he knew you deserve someone better
see, Taehyung, he sees himself as this messy and too emotionally damaged to even fucking function. much less start a relationship with you.
sure you were damaged like him, maybe even more, but he just can’t risk of hurting you and breaking you into pieces. you’ve already lost so much, he doesn’t want to add to that. so he opts for kissing you on the lips, just lightly. light enough so that it doesn’t stir you awake or anything of the like. he lays you down in his bed and bids you goodnight.
you and him started being friends back in the first year of college, you were both 4th year college students now. anyways, you used to visit the coffee shop he works at almost everyday. he’s seen you stress over your finals, seen you hang out with your friends there, also seen you cry when you boyfriend left you.
you’ve always ordered something simple, choosing a black coffee instead of something creamy and milky.
until one day you decide to say, “surprise me,” to Taehyung and he just stares at you confused. then you tell him to give you something different, something he’d recommend to you.
alas Taehyung’s mocha latte was born !1!1!
it was something simple and common as well but it held special meaning to him.
And so you started ordering his mocha latte while you stayed and studied at the coffee shop, eventually forming a friendship with Taehyung.
Anyway back to the present times
come Friday night and you were surprised to find out that Taehyung was going out on a date.
with Seo Soojin
the girl who hit him accidentally on the face
you were surprised with a lot things. first, knowing Taehyung was going out on a date. he wasn’t the type to date and settle down. I mean, of course he’d eventually settle down with a girl but not now. not while he’s in college.
Second, Soojin was actually pretty. In a goddess level, she might just be your girl crush lololol
And lastly, you thought that you had a chance with your gorgeous best friend. You knew he pecked you on the lips while he thought you were sleeping. You were sleeping at one point but you woke up when he lifted you up to place you on the bed. It took all of your willpower to not kiss him back but you were afraid of ruining things, despite the obvious actions he’s made.
But after days of convincing from your other friends, you decided to ask him out.
Yes, girls ask boys out now. it’s the twenty-fucking-first century after all
BUT THE UNIVERSE HAD OTHER PLANS
NOOO fate had to watch your best friend dress up in a nice tux and slick his hair back as he waited for Soojin to text him her address. You had to act all supportive while deep down you knew that him going out with Soojin was hurting you a lot more than you liked.
Now Taehyung,,,,,, he was more than surprised to feel his heart flutter at the appearance of Soojin. She really is pretty but he couldn’t help but think that you would look a lot better.
Their date surprisingly went well but he hoped that he just spent the night with you instead.
He came home to you watering his plants for him and he felt his heart flutter at the sight.
There you were, wearing his grey hoodie and god knows what else underneath
You had your earphones on while you tended to his cacti and various other plants
If he were a murderer you’d be dead, no doubt bout that
So, he hugs you from behind and rest his chin on your shoulder
You ask him about his date, ignoring the pang in your heart when he talks about how good it was
Instead of breaking your heart over the details in their date, you focus on his warm voice that almost made you sleepy tbh
Taehyung didn’t know why he narrated their date with so much enthusiasm. Maybe he wanted to get out a reaction out of you
But you stayed calm and interested with what he was saying, not showing any signs of jealousy or hurt
He goes to take a shower and he was expecting to have a movie night with you but surprised to see that you’ve gone to bed and so he does to
You two don’t sleep well that night
SATURDAAAAAAY and Saturdays mean parties
Meaning, Taehyung and you getting shit faced and the two of you could barely make it back to your apartment alive
But it was no doubt your favorite part of the week
You got dressed up wearing something seductive yet still conservative on the side paired with the comfiest pair of heels you have
When Taehyung saw you all dolled up, he was like :000 DAYUMMMM
But he felt a little overprotective when he thinks about the people who’ll look at your body and all that so he gives you his jacket
Though you tell him it’s too hot and that you could handle yourself if ever something happens
You’re already in the party and Taehyung swears to himself that he’ll keep an eye on you and that if something bad ever happens to you he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself
He sees you out of your comfort zone, dancing around people and gathering attention from lots of people
You’re happy with the attention so you keep on partying
Taehyung was about to go to the bathroom, thinking that you’d be fine since you were just dancing, but then he sees a man talk to you
The man was fucking tall, very smug, very untrustworthy
His lips were too close on your ear and you seem very very uncomfortable
So Taehyung rushes to your side, grips your waist and says,
“Back off. She’s mine.” WITH THAT LOW AND SEXY VOICE OF HIS ASKJJDSK IM LOSING IT
But the guy had the aUDACITY to ignore Taehyung and continues “so, will you spend the night with me sweetcheeks?”
TAEHYUNG GROWLS AT PUSHES THE GUY WITH SO MUCH FORCE
You had to grip his arm and ask him to stop and not make a scene with the smallest voice you have
And just as you two were about to leave, the guy shouts “lucky you, you’ve got a fine piece of ass right there,” and that’s all it takes for Taehyung to throw his fist at the guy
Everyone stopped dancing and focused on the scene unravelling in front of them
Pulling Taehyung back you tell him “that’s enough,” and drag him out of the house
The whole walk home was quiet and the tension was thick
“It’s because of that damn outfit,” he says once you’ve entered your shared apartment
You scoff and bend down to take you heels off and say “It’s not my fault men can’t control their dicks,”
Taehyung looks at you with this animalistic glint in his eye and stalks toward you
“You should’ve been more careful, babygirl,”
His lips attack your neck
You couldn’t move because you were shocked and aroused all at the same time
He sucks at the sweet spot on your neck and it just turned you into a moaning mess
You tug his hair, moan his name
“Jump,” he commands and so you do
He kisses your lip and you kiss him back with more force
Tongues fighting for dominance, teeth clashing, little spills of moans and grunts here and there
“When I saw you in that article you call clothes,” he chuckles “all I could think about was ripping it off of you right there and then,” he kisses your collarbones
“It isn’t the first time too. All the nights you spend snuggled up to me wearing my shirt with no bra on and I could feel your breasts pushed up against me,” he unzips your clothing and lets it fall to floor
·“God fucking dammit Taehyung. Fuck me already,” you say and he looks up at you
A smirk on his lips and eyebrows raised in challenge
He grips your hip and you wrap your legs around him as he carries you to your bedroom
You were slightly expecting him to be just a tad bit gentle but clearly he was in a bad mood so he throws you into the bed and removes both of your clothes quickly
“Suck,” he tells you and moans when your lips wrap around his digit
He brings his fingers to pump his cock a bit and pushes into your cunt without warning
The force got you screeching and clawing at his back
“Fuck, harder,” you mewl and he obliges
He fucks you at an animalistic speed and his eyes bore into yours as he thrusts deeper into you
It doesn’t take long for you to reach your climax and Taehyung’s thumb rubs your clit until you were coming
And he’s coming to and as much as you want him to finish inside of you, you knew that that wasn’t safe so he pulls out and cums on your tummy
He helps you scoot over and lays beside you
“I’m in love with you and this is probably the worst timing ever but I just want to say that I loved you for a long time and even if you don’t like me back, I’ll keep on loving you and-“ he rambles
But you cut him off with a sweet and slow kiss
“I’m in love with you too, Tae. Have been for a long time,” and you look at him
The moonlight from the window doing wonders to his face
His lips turn into a small smile and kisses you again
And again
And again
“Do you know why I made you a mocha latte on that day?” he quietly speaks as he tangles your bodies together
“Ooooh that’s a question I’ve been dying to ask for a long time. Tell me. tell me,” you pipe
He breathes before saying, “you know how you alternate ordering an americano on bad and normal days and plain milk on warm and good days?” You nod
“Well, a mocha latte is a combination of both with just with added chocolate flavouring and sugar,”
“That’s how you made me feel,” he says and you look at him with question marks in your eyes
He laughs, “Before you, my life was just plain and dull. Kind of like an americano,”
“But then you started visiting the café shop more and everyday it brought me a whole new feeling,”
“Every time you’re sitting at alone, whether it be studying or just reading, it made me feel a lot of things. happiness, curiousity, the whole butterflies in my stomach thing,”
“So think of the sugar and chocolate to be my growing feelings for you and yeah,” he laughs again and this time you laugh with him
“I love you, even though you’re so damn cheesy!”
“I love you too, Y/N. I love you,” and you both smile and hold each other
“I think I’m going to have a coffee shop as my business once I graduate,” he says and you nod
And you two live life happy and healthy 😊) (safe to say the universe’s on your side now)
SO SORRY IF THAT WAS TOOOOO LONG AND NGL I FEEL BAD FOR SOOJIN AND THIS SEEMS SO RUSHED AKJDS ANW HOPE Y’ALL LIKED IT :>

I have enjoyed and been very impressed with your thoughtful metas. I was just curious if you had any thoughts on the symbolism of two in Star Wars. I thought about it a bit and I can't unsee it: 1) The binary suns; 2) Luke and Leia being twins; 3) The necessity of a co-pilot to fly the MF; 4) The rule of two; 5) The padowna/jedi master reationship; 6) Even Leia's ring in the ST... do you think there is something there that will inform the resolution of the saga?
Dear anon, wow, thank you so much for these kind words that go straight to my heart. And thank you also for this lovely ask! Sorry it took me so long to get to write and answer to this one! Yes, indeed, two is everywhere. And thank you so much for bringing Leia’s ring to my attention. It was too obvious to notice, I know! Well, I understand so much that you can’t unsee the number two in the saga. Of course, you can’t.
Before I elaborate on the points you make, may I begin by saying that we were literally ushered into the saga by two specific numbers that keep on repeating themselves. In the forms of our famous couple of droids: R2D2 and C3PO. I have two questions on the backburner about R2D2 but let me state and repeat how much this little droid is essential to the series and how much TLC he deserves all the time! So 2 and 3. The magic numbers on which the saga is built. On the one hand, 2 can be viewed as the mostly universal basis for all thought and the way at which we envision and represent the world. Binary, dual, antagonistic, divided: white and black, light and dark, night and day, heaven and earth, good and evil, male and female, me and others, yin and yang, fire and water, life and death, nature and culture… it goes on and on and on and on…2 is a fascinating number because it encompasses both destruction and creation. It is also the number of the duality inherent to every human being: the Janus, the potential everyone has to be either good or evil, the inner conflict. Out of the two comes out conflict, opposition, war. But out of two also comes out life, creation, balance. It takes a man and a woman to have a baby. It takes two to make three. It takes two to make the world go round.
3 on the other hand is a spiritual number, often present in most religions. Think of the Holy Trinity. It is also a temporal number, the one of the cycle: birth, growth, death; past, present, future; infancy, maturity, old age. It is often the number associated with heroe’s journeys and quests: places where they go, foes or friends they meet on the way, number of sons or daughters who are sent on a quest or who have to share a legacy. 3 is also the nuclear family: father, mother, and son. The triangle is a potent mystical symbol, associated with creation and thus also the female genitalia. So, it is funny that in our couple of droids, R2 seems often like the “male” element of the pairing and C3P0 the “female” element. With all the clichés associated though: R2 is active, mostly silent, often rude, loyal, and associated with technical skills. He often uses a little tool that comes out and is akin to a penis. He frequently saves the day. He goes with Luke. Whereas C3P0 is talkative, complains all the time, seems mostly decorative (huge emphasis on his appearance throughout the movies) , often creates issues, and is frequently shut down and physically abused by the others. C3PO goes with Leia. Yep. That sucks. No wonder he was hailed as a God by a primitive tribe who would certainly celebrate female powers (think also how welcoming they are with Leia, but how hostile they are towards the men of the group). 3 is the narrative reference in the series, because it is built as a trilogy, even better as a triptych of 3 trilogies. Think also that the MF is supposed to have 3 brains, of which being L3….
So, dear anon, you bring out fantastic references. Yes, it takes two to fly the LF, yes the rule of two for the Sith Lords, yes the Padawan and the Master, yes the twins, yes the binary suns on Tatooine and on Ahch-To as Luke is fading away… Don’t forget Han’s set of … dice.
The ring, that I had never thought before, is fantastic!
It was given center stage and dramatic flair on the poster representing Leia for the TLJ campaign. Carrie Fisher is credited with insisting on the importance of jewelry in TLJ. She really wanted jewelry for the characters and indeed, on the Visual Dictionary for TLJ, you find tons of info on what the characters wear. Stuff you didn’t necessarily pay attention to, like Poe Dameron’s ring… Anyways… This ring is obviously meaningful. This is something I found on a site called The Adventurine :
As for the meaning of the jewels, there has been speculation that the dramatic ring with two blue lapis-style stones in an Arts and Crafts swirl is her engagement ring from Han Solo. This is unlikely, mainly because she is wearing it on her right hand. She does have a ring with a gem that looks like an opal on her left hand in The Last Jedi. If they still follow the old-fashion rule that, that finger is the finger in space, it certainly could be her engagement ring and a way of holding on to Han’s memory.
Ok, let’s imagine this is an engagement ring and a way of having Solo paid homage to on the posters and throughout the movie. We know that Leia is in mourning. Her hairdo is a mourning braid as they used to wear on Alderaan. The movie did not deliver a Solo funeral as the novelizations did, so the look of Leia is a way of paying tribute to Solo and her love for him. As an engagement ring, it is cool: two stones that are exactly alike and equal, that each have their own space but are nevertheless interwined through a complex swirl of gold. There’s almost an 8 quality to the pattern, the number for infinity and repetition. So it is like a beautiful wedding vow, o equality, unity, and love forever. Now think even more. Couldn’t it evcoke our Reylo couple? Two lonely planets, both equal, that reach out to each other “across the stars”? Because as different and divided Leia and Han were, they never were equals. And when was the very last time we got to see this gorgeous piece of jewelry that is meant to represent an “engagement”, a “promise ring”, possibly even a wedding band?
Right at the end, with an emphasis on the broken saber. It’s not on the saber, but it’s the promise. The promise that “we have everything we need”, that out of division, union may come. And, think of it, even Rey’s scar, the “hands that reach across the galaxy”, is also reminiscent of the pattern on the ring:
There is an interesting parallel in the Solo movie. Qi’ra is “marked” with a tatoo that lets L3 (number 3 again) know that she is “taken”, not free to reciprocate Han’s love and follow him. In the end, not only does he have the tatoo (permanently branded into her skin), she eventually also gets the ring:
But because this is a ring for power and not a ring for love, she does not put it on, but uses it in the device on the ship to conjure up Maul’s appearance.
Another note: there is NO exchange of rings in the secret wedding between Padmé and Anakin. But our trusted droids are there though…and they are the wedding rings. Padmé gives R2 to Anakin and Anakin gives C3PO to Padmé.

“I love robbery AND fraud!”: A Star Wars Story
My expectations were so goddamn low going into this movie. The stories coming out of it’s production was a MESS, so I expected a mess. Like I really didn’t want to walk out of a Star Wars movie for the second time within months feeling let down and angry af. But I made peace with myself over the fact that that was what I would be getting, and that I’d see it anyway because I just can’t quit Star Wars. What I was not expecting was to actually have fun...
I admit it okay, I actually enjoyed myself. This movie was nowhere near perfect, or great. Trilogy worthy? Hell tf no!!!! I give it a 6.5/10. 6.5 because I was completely SNATCHED from people taking their damn hoods off and revealing their true selves so it gets an extra .5! I liked many things, other things I didn’t. Either way you’re going to hear my thoughts in a jumbled mess!
---------------------------
______HEAVY SPOILERS under the cut!____
---------------------------
Qi’ra and Han make out within the first two minutes of this movie which is just a taste of all the other times we’ll see them...I heard some spoilers about their hinted relationship but I REALLY WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THEM TO TONGUE LIKE 7 TIMES AT LEAST?! I REALLY DID NOT CARE ABOUT THEM LMFAO. But I already want to die because I know it’s going to spawn more Rey’s parentage debate and... I’m not strong enough for it anymore at this point. I’m done.
Han holding a rock...and making a click sound...pretending it was a fucking bomb. A procrastinator. Innovator.
Han reminded me of the lead character of a shonen anime!? “My dream? My dream is to be a pilot! The best pilot in the galaxy! I’m going to join the Imperial navy to be a pilot! And if I work hard enough, I will get enough money TO BUY A SHIP! AND WITH THAT SHIP?!?! I WILL FREE MY FRIEND! I WILL BE THE BEST PILOT! I--!”
Chewie’s introduction into Han’s life was Chewie whooping his ass in a pile of mud. Han suddenly knew how to speak Wookie, and then the rest is history.
That Aurra Sing name drop made me clutch my chest.
Enfys Nest is a pirate after the same shit Han and crew are after but honestly??? When she was whooping ass on that train I knew I would stan.
JESUS CHRIST THEY DID NOT DESERVE THANDIE NEWTON. I was so upset that Val did not have a big part in this movie, and was killed early on! She is such an amazing actress, and it was really sad to see her go after we just got her! And a self-sacrifice for her death was lazy as fuck!!! THERE WAS NO NEED. I’m actually thankful they never got their hands on Sana Starros at this point because that shit so disappointing for me.
Qi’ra being branded and owned by Dryden Vos??? I’m glad he got clapped in the end, and that she was the one that was able to do it!
LAAAAAAANNDDDDOOOOOOOOOO OH MY GOOOOODDDDDDDD!
Best thing about this goddamn movie
HE WAS SMOOTH. SO FASHIONABLE. A SCAMMER. THAT’S MY MANS!
Not enough Lando. Not nearly enough.
The sabacc scene?!?! Han and Lando together was goddamn worth it! I really wish we saw MORE OF THEM.
BECAUSE SERIOUSLY WTF I THOUGHT THERE’D BE MORE TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP
Droid death match?
GONK DROID GONK DROID GONK DROID!!!!!!
L3 was literally the droid version of Korg from Ragnarok, but I loved her anyway.
Seeing the Falcon brand new and shiny was so cool!!!
I just want to state right here and now that I am so thankful that we got a look into Lando’s walk-in closet and 30 capes?!
A SCENE WHICH LEADS TO QI’RA AND HAN MAKING OUT INTO A CLOTHES RACK ASJKJADSKA?! OKAY???
Beckett’s “don’t trust her. don’t trust anyone. NOT EVEN YOURSELF!!!!!” OH DAMN THAT’S A PLOT POINT WE’LL USE FOR LATER!!!
L3 launching the rebellion on Kessel gave me life. Again, it felt very Thor: Ragnarok but I still enjoyed it.
MORE GONK DROIDS
CHEWIE HELPING THE WOOKIES ALMOST MADE ME CRY I LOVE HIM.

She actually ticked off all of my Mara Jade boxes like if they ever put Mara in something, I imaged her to look JUST LIKE THAT it was wild!
Han: “What’s on Tatooine?”
Me, and opportunistic Luke stan ignoring Han’s backstory with Jabba completely: YOUR FUCKING BOY THAT’S WHAT!
Beckett REALLY TURNED OUT TO BE A LIAR AND A SCAMMER BUT AS HE SAID HE WARNED HAN. BUT HAN KNOWS!BETTER!NOW!!!!!
Qi’ra STABBING HER CAPTOR IN THE HEART. I LOVE THIS SONG.

THE MOMENT I HEARD HIS VOICE AND ACCENT THOUGH I WAS SHOOK SO I AM A FAKE BITCH I KNOW DEEP DOWN I WAS THRILLED TO SEE HIM.
Maul: Come to Dathomir now, Qi’ra. You and I are going to be working very close together
Me, *looking into the camera like I’m in the office*: Tumblr is going to fucking ship this now, aren’t they?
I’m glad that I at least didn’t have to sit through a Star Wars film without hearing a lightsaber ignite I would have been distraught!
HAN WINNING THE FALCON. HE DIDN’T HAVE TO DO LANDO LIKE THAT!
All in all this movie was not great by far, but it did tick off all my Star Wars aesthetic needs boxes, and I had fun.
#solo spoilers#solo#star wars#this is a mess but i am a mess and here is what i can remember lol#all this to say... hey i had fun#han solo movie#kiki speaks

there are so many women in that book that I am so hyped to have information and art about, including but probably not limited to:
(under a cut because I just decided that this is going to be an appreciation post)
Aayla??? Oh my gosh? Her mentoring Ahsoka was great and I love her interactions with Bly and gosh, she is just so good. I want to know more about her, especially in new canon, and how she is as a person.
Adi? Beautiful. Gorgeous. Showstopping. She has such a great personality and she fights well and I am here for it!
AHSOKA MY MAIN LADY. She’s just grown so much and I’m so proud of her and what she was able to achieve in her life. Any content for her is splendid.
Yeaaaa Pryce! She’s so evil and fun to read about! It’d be cool for her to get featured primarily in something like she did in Thrawn ngl and I’d love to have her PoV during the finale of swr.
Ventress! She’s so flawed, but if this book gives us some details about right after she turns to the dark side, I am going to drop to the floor.
Yoooo Barriss. It has taken me all of four years to warm up to her, but now that I have, I’m looking forward to this.
Beru! She deserves it! This is the recognition that the lady who raised Luke and has managed a homestead on the harsh land of Tatooine deserves. I’m so happy for her.
CIENNA! It’s been so long! Lost Stars was I think the first expanded universe novel I read for new canon and I loved it, and I loved Cienna, so I’m looking forward to literally any canon content involving her.
Depa!! I haven’t interacted with her character in canon, but I’m doing this one rp that involves her, so more details are always good.
I don’t read any of the material involving Aphra unfortunately, but I’ve heard she’s cool and gay so I’m down to read about her.
Enfys!!! I’m dying, she’s just such a good person, a radiant force of light, a true rebel, and definitely deserves a spot here. Heart eyes all around.
HERA! PILOT OF MY H E A R T. A Rebel (TM). A good mom, a good Captain, a good person, a good character, and just all around someone who was fun to journey with through swr.
JAS??? EMARI??????? SHE’S GOT CONTENT HOLY SHIT, I love Jas so much but because she’s only shown up in Aftermath, I have not been able to yell about her as much as she deserves, and good god I’m glad to see that she’s got a spot here. She’s a badass and has a heart that she desperately tries to hide.
I really like the fanon surrounding Jessika Pava, so her page is going to be fun :D
Jocasta! Big gun, bigger library.
Jyyynnnn, yes :D
I barely know about Ketsu, but I love what I do! Here’s hoping for some new tidbits maybe in there.
L3-37, the amazing droid who deserved so much better. I expect a full essay on her campaign for droid rights and how they’re treated in the galaxy.
LEIA ORGANA HERSELF. MY PRINCESS, MY GENERAL, TOTAL BADASS. She’s great. I love her.
Luminara! She fights so pretty and her philosophy is super interesting, so I hope that this is a good resource :)
Mira Bridger! My gosh! We can find out more about Ezra’s first Rebel Mom (TM)!
Norra Wexley, I’m weeping, she’s just so good and comes back from the dead enough to rival Shaak Ti, and she’s the mom that everyone in the Aftermath Squad (TM) needed but didn’t deserve.
NUMA YES
Paige? Man, I have a thing for heavy gunners that die during their first appearance, so I’m sure to enjoy this.
Phasma!!!! She’s so evil but I love her, from Parnassos until the Dreadnaught.
YEAH QI’RA, fight for your freedom too!
Rae Sloane???? Us Aftermath fans have been BLESSED with this fine release
REY! She! Aggressive fighter, aggressive pilot, and the person that I couldn’t be happier to have as a protagonist of the sequel trilogy.
Our cute mechanic Rose Tico! I hope we learn more about her past and what she’s good at mechanic-ing!
SABINE!!! YEA MAN, GOOD REBEL, GOOD DEMOLITIONS, STOLE MY DAMN HEART, I just love Sabine so much, I’m glad she’s in this
AYO SEVENTH SISTER MADE IT IN, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART. Also, this means that there’s going to be art of her! I’m weeping, everyone.
Shaak Ti! What a Jedi, what a woman.
Shmi, who absolutely deserves this spot with all of her being. Deserves better, both by the swu and all of us.
STEELA YES I’M SO HAPPY YOU’RE HERE
SUGI!! HOLY SHIT!!! OUR KIND-HEARTED BOUNTY HUNTER QUEEN HAS GRACED US
Ursa Wren??? Gosh?? We are being showered with motherhood in this book and I am living for it
VAL, YOU DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER so I’m glad you’re here
VI????? My gosh, she’s the best, so kind-hearted, such a damn optimist!!!!
ANYWAY TL;DR I’M SUPER EXCITED AND HYPED TO READ ABOUT THESE AWESOME LADIES

Fan Review: Solo: A Star Wars Story
May contain minor/some spoilers after the cut.
I suspect that Solo: A Star Wars Story might be a bit like its title character. A bit rough at the start, maybe shady, pretty good-looking, and definitely out to get your money. But, as it goes on, it becomes more and more apparent how good and truly nostalgic and lovable it is.
This is a film that “nobody wanted.” Which means...what? I wanted it. When I saw Star Wars ANH, I wanted to know all about that cool Solo guy. And finally, 41 years later, I got my wish. And yeah… I’m mostly happy. After Last Jedi, I was pretty much done with the franchise, so it’s not like I went in with high hopes.
Solo is a relatively low stakes reprieve from the “we must save the world/galaxy/universe” all-or-nothing epic trope that has plagued us for the last few years. This is an adventure, a coming of age, and a western heist. Stakes are high, but only for the characters you are relating with onscreen, making it a curious addition to this year’s blockbusters.
Make no mistake; This is a love-letter to original trilogy Star Wars fans. It’s Han Solo in an Indiana Jones style adventure ( and what could be more fun than that).
4 out of 5 stars.
The first minute of Solo is exactly how a movie about the titular character should begin. But then it immediately lags, then even more so under ill-paced exposition. As soon Han goes solo though, it gains momentum. Then a short few minutes later as Woody Harrelson appears, things get rolling outright.
Alden Ehrenreich takes a bit of time to slide into Han’s scuffed boots, both onscreen and in our fan hearts. But when he does, it works wonderfully. He’s not the sexy gruff cynic Harrison Ford portrayed. No, he’s a “Kid,” who's got dreams. He’s a romantic. He’s wide-eyed, immature, and even petulant at times. But like Harrison’s portrayal, he’s arrogant, talented, goofy, jealous, easily embarrassed and will gladly spin a terrible lie. And oh yes… he can turn it on. Not at first, no… that’s really awkward ( more on that with Emilia). He’s not Harrison Ford by a long shot, but when given the chance later in the film, he makes a scene his own, and it’s HOT.
Unfortunately though, Alden is easily five inches shorter than 6’ 1” Harrison. And it’s glaringly obvious (especially to me, as I am quite a tall person). Sadly, Alden’s 1” platform 2”+ heel boots can only add so much. Otherwise, I’m satisfied with his portrayal. Alden’s a great actor, he had huge boots to fill, and I think he’s really been treated unfairly by the fans. Give the kid a chance, he might win you over.
Donald Glover IS Lando Calrissian though. He’s sexy, sauve and even a bit silly ( in all the right ways… make no mistake). I daresay Mr.Glover has taken Billy Dee William’s place in my heart as the epitome of Lando. Whether he’s coming on to Han, or Qi’ra or some unspecified alien species, he’s a pansexual on the level of Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones. An arrogant playboy badass, who loves all the finest things. He is willing to enjoy everything life has to offer, and why not? It’s hard not to love him as a result. Lando movie, anyone?
Tobias Beckett is everything Han wants to be. Beckett is also in love with fellow crook Val, and his attachment to her is cemented firmly in a couple of scenes, which unlike the Han/Qi’ra scenes–have great chemistry. And Woody Harrelson’s portrayal of yet another grizzled mentor is stunning. I found him much more appealing than Harrelson’s equivalent character from Hunger Games. Though the mantel is starting to wear. Don’t get me wrong. I adore Woody Harrelson. His being in this film gave me a reason to think I might just like it. I’m just not sure I want to see him as yet another badass mentor after this.
When Thandie Newton appeared in Beloved back in 1998, I was an instant fan. I’d seen her before in a few other flicks, but she blew that one out of the water as the title character. Since then she had worked steadily in a number of critically acclaimed roles. I was absolutely thrilled to see her in this as Val. And utterly heartbroken that she was totally underused. When Val is onscreen, she overshadows everyone else, even Beckett. It’s a shame we don’t see more of her than we do. Boo!
Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra…Hmm. She’s cute, charming, and tries her hand at swordplay here. But honestly, the Queen of Dragons is a poor fit. The original casting call was for anything other than yet another white brunette. And with amazing ladies like Tessa Thompson in the running, why oh why did we end up with Emilia? If not racism (God, I hope not); Ang’s answer: Think $$$, from Game of Thrones fans in theatre seats. I can think of no other reason. Her chemistry with Alden is tepid at best ( and any of that comes much, much later). I feel bad for Emilia here. I think she was miscast, and that tarnish will always stay with the fans. ( P.s. : the three adult heterosexual males I watched the movie with, were over-the-moon smitten with her. To each his own. I guess…)
On to the non-humans...
Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca is physically brilliant. He’s stolen my heart as Chewie from the lovely Peter Mayhew (sorry Pete) over the last three movies. But honestly, we discover nothing new about Chewbacca in this. Zero. It’s rather unfortunate. I wish I could say more. But we learn more about Chewie in episode three than this. A missed opportunity. Sorry Chewie. For some reason Disney put your character in the doghouse here.
L3-37 is another definite weak spot in Solo. We have a snarky female droid (yay!) as a droid-rights advocate (cool!). But it’s so completely overwrought. Only Lando’s constant eye rolls save this character from being as ridiculous as Jar Jar Binks. Which is another shame, because I felt she fills in the current canon equivalent of Lando’s copilot droid Vuffi Raa, from the EU/Legends novels from waaay back in the 1980’s, (interestingly they are both pilots, are both self-aware droids and have vaguely parallel fates) Some editing issues arise as far as L3′s character is concerned too. She’ll be leaning, casually watching, while droids are being slaughtered in front of her, but only interferes with other robots later in the same scene? Why?? Were the first dead droids not good enough for her to save? It’s inconsistent, poor editing; and that really hurts the character. Sorry Phoebe Waller-Bridge, you did great job with what you had. I’m not sure that the script/editing was as good as you deserved.
The spaceship the Millennium Falcon is 100% a full character in this too. Without giving too much away, she represents her pilots as they sit at the helm. She’s treated with more respect - reverence even - in this, than any other film. And I can say this is her movie as much as it is Han’s. Millennium Falcon fans, you are in for a treat!
And the bad guys...or one guy anyways....
Paul Bettany is chilling and utterly convincing as the gangster Dryden Vos. He also has much better chemistry with Qi’ra than Han. I’m fairly certain this is mainly due to Paul’s astonishing acting ability. He first came to my attention as the title character in the darkly funny UK crime film Gangster No.1. I was floored by him then and he’s still blowing me away, even as the rather challenging character Vision in the MCU. Bettany does not disappoint in Solo either. He took over this role with zero preparation, with the weight of replacing another respected actor at the last minute in an extremely troubled production. And the optics of having a white European actor taking over from an African-american are...ermm...not the best. He pulls it off, though. But I can’t help but wonder what Michael K Williams would have brought to the role. Vos is a soulless psychopath under Bettany, not unlike his character in Gangster No.1. Would Williams have brought the tragic–almost romantic deep spirit and inner strength he brought to his gangster Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire to Vos instead? It’s rather sad we will never know.
I don’t think I can say much else about the other antagonist(s) without spoiling a bunch. But let’s just say...wow! Well done! Surprises and fan service all around!
There is something missing here too. We never see Han as an imperial pilot. Nor the promised Shakespeare-inspired comedic comic book characters that Ron Howard teased last fall. These gems may be reserved for DVD releases, but I feel Han’s missing academy stint is definitely a gap in this story. And the movie lacks because of it.
Importantly, I do recommend seeing this in IMAX 2D as it is a very dark and muted film.
The usual amazing, special effects, costumes and sets we’ve come to expect from the Star Wars film franchise are all present here. The styling is different from the previous films, as it takes place about halfway between Episode Three and Rogue One. It’s neat to see the evolution of the Empire’s gear.
And the easter eggs are everywhere; prequels, Rebels, Clone Wars, Star Tours ( the Disney Park ride), the comic books from the 1970′s and 80′s, the EU/Legends Han Solo novels by Brian Daley, the Lando Calrissian novels from the same era are especially referenced numerous times. Even the Indiana Jones franchise gets a significantly placed nod.
To say the least, the fan-service is strong with this one.
But not the Force. Not at all. None of that simple tricks and nonsense here at all.
Because I’m a pretty hard-core fan, I pre-bought two showings on initial release. The first time I saw Solo, I was unsure if I actually liked it, but it seemed to be a decent film. The second viewing ( the same night) was an absolute joy. Times three and four were with different groups of adults, and they all had a blast. Five was with a group of 13 year old girls, and they all enjoyed it too.
So let’s call my rating of Solo then, 4 out of 5 stars.
Honestly I don’t get the backlash against it. Don’t take your Last Jedi hate out on this. It’s a fun ride with decent jokes and no space-boob-milk monsters—honest!
And if you think Solo offers nothing different, new, or imaginative. You are 99% correct...Remember, we got that full package of “different and innovative” in Last Jedi. If that’s your schtick, watch that one instead then.
Oh, and one more thing- that 1%?... two words:
Shower scene.

EFA DID YOU SEE AND HEAR SOLAR POWER ??? [SCREAMS FOR THE DURATION OF THE SONG AND EVERY DAY UNTIL THE 21st]
HI NAE!!! IM SO SORRY I HAVENT BEEN AS ACTIVE BUT YES I HAVE SEEN & LISTENED TO SOLAR POWER (a little late because it came out at like 5 am for me i think? & i woke up at like 12 lol) & OMG
(also below this is basically a rant & its pretty long so feel free to skip haha)
ive only listened to it once so far & havent really looked into it & dont plan on listening again until everything is out (because ugh i want to sit down & listen to the whole album when it comes out if u get what i mean?) but so far, yes, i did expect it to have a summer vibe, but i did not expect it to sound this way? it was just a little underwhelming imo but i get that its only the first track of quite a few & that she is putting out there first to build some tension/suspense (like its only gonna get better & better)? like the light instrumental with the quiet acoustic guitar caught me so off guard too? it was cute & breezy & im sure its something that will grow on me over time! also the mv was so cute i was so in love & she looked absolutely amazing ugh i have missed her so much 🥺❤️ it felt really nostalgic because i got a lot of the same & unexplainable feelings of excitement for a new era when greenlight came out ... but as a fan of lorde since 2013 & a melodrama stan im lowkey kind of nervous to finally see how this new album will come out to play? i remember when greenlight first came out & i was kind of weirded out bc it was too different from pure heroine & i guess thats how it might turn out now w this album because im getting the same exact feelings? people say that this album is going to be more about joy, reflection, growth & etc (basically what we are not used to from her) & that she is finally getting rid of those teen angst themes which def isnt a problem & we love to see that character development!!! especially now since this is her first time releasing an album as an actual adult (do yall remember when we thought that this new album was gonna be abt that one trip she took to alaska lol) but im lowkey kind of scared bc we have never gotten that kind of vibe from her (also bc im a sucker for angst lmao)? like i seriously have a hard time imagining her sing about something that isnt sad or angsty (until now with solar power lol but its still really weird bc its so super new to me)? & im afraid of how that will affect the album lyrically & maybe even from a music production stand point? like will it suit her voice & stuff? my friends & i have been discussing about L3 for so long now & it feels so surreal now that its finally here omg anyways we shall see & im 100% looking forward to it! & regardless, shes an amazing artist & because of her talent im very very very confident that she can pull it off! & im also so excited to see this new side to her & this new chapter to her life she absolutely deserves the world! AND YES I WILL BE SCREAMING WITH U EVERYDAY UNTIL THE 21ST!!!!!!!!!

Playoff Prep
The Islanders have 15 regular season games remaining before the playoffs. The Metro, and the Eastern conference are too tight to really narrow down an opponent at this point. So let’s look at how the team might best improve themselves for the road ahead.

The Power Play
This has been the achilles heel of the team all year. They are currently operating at 15.63%. That’s more than 4% below the NHL average. There is too much talent on this team to have such an anemic power play.
Power Play Problems
Nick Leddy might be the worst power play point in the league. He seems to be on the first power play unit solely for zone entries. I’m not really sure why you need your top two centers and a speedy one dimensional defenseman on your first power play unit for zone entries. The Islanders have two other defensmen who can handle zone entries. Either Ryan Pulock or Devon Toews should be able to handle that responsibility. Plus, they both have much better shots, and distribute the puck with much less hesitation.
Creativity is seriously lacking. The Islanders have one of the more dynamic puck moving and playmaking centers in Mat Barzal. Once possession has been established in the offensive zone his ability to orbit the zone is neutralized. Nothing is gained by circling the perimeter. Passing the puck accomplishes the same thing much faster. There needs to be more movement north and south between the three middle options. This would create more and clearer passing lanes through the “Royal Road“. It also offers more options to more skilled passers. This is another reason for removing Leddy from the first unit. They could have three primary shooting targets (Pulock, Nelson and Lee) with two distribution hubs (Toews and Barzal) if they’d just give up their tired love affair with Nick Leddy.
The second unit could use a boost. If you remove Toews and Pulock from the second power play unit it will need some “umph”. They will probably still employ the 1-3-1 style as they have in the past. The two units could have very similar features, regardless of players’ position.
Barzal and Filppula would be my two low distribution points. Pulock and Eberle would share the RH shot on the LW spots for each unit. Lee and Ladd would be the net front guys, with Nelson and DalColle on the RW. The high D would be Toews on the first unit, and… Thomas Hickey on the second.
If this strategy was deployed each piece would be interchangeable between the units. That could serve as a positive in a long series should injuries arise, or just to reward a hot hand. Sometimes just putting a different body out there confuses a defender who may rely on tendencies.

The Roster
Tweaks
The season can really be broken down into three slices for a playoff team. The first twenty games or so a coach will try to find the best 23 to ride for the meat of the season. The next forty he lets those players do their best to show they deserve their playing time. The last 20 he either has to ride those 23, or use whatever he’s learned in those 60 games to put together his best nightly lineup for the playoff push. I think that’s where we are now.
Michael Dal Colle has earned some trust, and may offer some offensive upside over Matt Martin. Physical play does not diminish at crunch time, but the ability to find time and space is more sorely needed. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Martin be a healthy scratch in more than 5 of the last 15.
Tom Kuhnhackl over Cal Clutterbuck. There is no denying that Cal is a big part of the success of the “best fourth line in hovkey”. There’s also no denying that he is a step slower the past few years, and it is hurting what could be one of the more productive middle six lines in the league. Any roster change has to be done in respect to special teams. With that in mind we have seen Cizikas paired with Kuhnhackl a little more often as Clutterbuck has been scratched. I think this is a way for Trotz to give himself more roster flexibility going forward.
They have to create a real offensively threatening first line. All year we have seen Mat Barzal switch linemates. There have been the “Killer B’s” (Beauvillier and Bailey) and last year’s highly successful (Beauvillier and Eberle) and currently (Beauvillier and Dal Colle). He’s even played with Ladd and Komarov some. All the while Nelson has been pulling the heavy weight as the number one center.
It’s time to try a true number one line. One that can play solid 200 foot hockey, with a puck mover and distributor, and three forwards who can shoot the puck. There has been a reluctance to deploy Lee, Nelson and Barzal on one line because the Islanders have been short a showcase center since that other guy left. Just like Leddy is not a first power play quarterback, Mat Barzal is not a top line center in the NHL just yet. But he could be the right wing for the most dynamic line going into the 2018-19 playoff season. It’s about time we see if that can build some chemistry.

The Pros
Roster flexibility is always a good thing. The two big surprises are obviously swapping Bailey and Barzal positionally, and making Leddy and Hickey interchangeable.
Let’s face it, Bailey takes the important draws, and plays the defensive role when with Barzal anyway. A RW can be rather effective as the puck mover and distributor. If you don’t believe that, please stop asking for the Islanders to promote Josh Ho-Sang. He’s never going to be a center.
I doubt we’ll see a full time move from Leddy to Hickey. More subtly I think the change will be moving Hickey in for Pelech. The roles should change on special teams. Hickey can handle Pelech’s PK minutes, and add to the second PP unit. Hopefully the addition of Toews and Pulock to the first unit will make folks forget about Leddy. Leddy adds little to the PK, so if you then move Pelech back in, you improve all three phases of the game.
The long term gain there is that you might be able to get a late first rounder for Leddy in June. The Islanders now have Toews, Pelech, Hickey, Aho, Wotherspoon and Vande Sompel to play the left side. That $5.5M might come in handy if they are going to sign all of their UFAs and shop for somebody like Duchene in July.
The Cons
Mat Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier, Michael Dal Colle, Adam Pelech and Devon Toews have zero NHL playoff experience and Ryan Pulock was mostly a healthy scratch in 2015-16. There will be some learning to do. But what better time to give these kids some experience. This is a season that nobody expected anybody to be adding to their playoff resumes.
Upsetting the apple cart. This roster, flawed as it may be, has been good enough to earn first place in the Metro division. Though I understand that, every “playoff” team in the east is playing better in the second half. The Islanders have hit a bit of a lull over the past few weeks. One way out of the lull is by getting back on the horse and playing through it. Another way is to get on a fresh horse. The benefit of the fresh horse is that it will give you a good look into what you have for next year. It may also surprise your opponents. It’s a gamble.
What’s In Store
The Islanders have 15 games left. Only four of them are against teams that are out of playoff hopes. Six if you include the Flyers who are hanging by the thinnest of threads. Let’s say there are nine games left that will test their ability to compete against playoff competition.
Their main focus will be to win the Metro Division. That accomplishment comes with home team advantage in the first two rounds. Something they haven’t enjoyed in two decades. To accomplish this they will either need to win out, or they will need some help. They only have one gaim remaining with their closest rivals, the Washington Capitals. That is the last game of the season, and could very likely be the first game of the playoffs.
They do have some matchups with possible first round opponents:
(03/11/19) (03/26/19) Columbus. After shoving all their chips into the center of the table the Blue Jackets have been somewhat disappointing. If they lose the second game of thier back to back to Pittsburgh they would really need Montreal to help them out if they want back into the race.
(03/14/19) (03/21/19) Montreal. These two games might mean more to Columbus and Montreal respectively than they do the Islanders. But they will both be stern playoff tests as they are both battling for their playoff lives.
(04/01/19) Toronto. If Toronto has fallen to the Wild Card spot by this time, this game will be way more important to them, than to the Islanders. They should be preparing for a tough first round with the Bruins.
(04/06/19) Washington. There are a few ways this could happen. The idea that either Pittsburgh or Carolina would pass both teams to win the Metro is highly unlikely (but I’m knocking on my wooden desk, just in case), but it is possible.
Our most likely first round opponent is the team currently in that position. The Carolina Hurricanes. They would earn that honor by being the top wild card team. If Washington wins the Metro, they could also finish third and be our first round opponent. Pittsburgh could also do either. We have no games remaining with either team.
What To Look Forward To
Hopefully over the next 15 games Barry Trotz and his staff will explore some of these ideas. They may not all work. Maybe none of them will. Some of them may even cause damage to the team’s confidence. But they will keep me from screaming at the TV… especially when I see Nick Leddy continually fumble the puck on the point during an important power play.

2018 Film Retrospective
This is my retrospective of all the movies I saw in 2018. This is based on UK release dates so films such as The Favourite, Vice or Eighth Grade will not appear on this list despite technically being 2018 movies as I have not yet been able to see these yet. There are also many movies that I have missed in 2018.
I will still be updating this list throughout 2019 here: https://letterboxd.com/nathan_r_l/list/2018-from-best-to-worst-3/
If you want to see where these movies fall on this list as I see them.
So, anyway here from the worst of the year to my personal favourite are all the films I saw in 2018:
37. The Queen and I (Dan Zeff):
I only saw this film a few days ago as of writing so it may seem a little harsh to call it the worst of the year as it hasn’t had any time to grow on me yet. Although I don’t see this getting any better with age. Sky intended this new David Walliams’s TV movie as a sort of Christmas present, but this must be one of the very few films I have ever seen that has actually made me angry. Nothing more than royalist propaganda that manages to completely miss the potential of the concept as well as missing the point of the sequence from Les Miserable that it decides to “pay homage too”.
36. Death on the Tyne (Ed Bye):
Not much to say here. Really it isn’t a surprise that UKTV made a bad comedy.
35. Fahrenheit 451 (Ramin Bahrani):
I promise that I saw more than just TV movies this year, it just so happens that most of them were really bad. All of the changes that were added to the story were stupid and when they actually tell the story it is painfully boring.
34. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (J. A. Bayona):
Let’s be real, despite ranging in quality none of the Jurassic Park sequels have warranted their own existence. That being said Fallen Kingdom might be worth watching just to see how hilariously bad these films can get. Despite having the same director as The Orphanage and A Monster Calls no amount of good tracking shots can fix a script that is this ridiculous. The script comes across like two different ideas for new Jurassic Park movies were awkwardly stitched together when the best treatment for both would have been not to make either of them. Through in an incredibly stupid and unneeded twist and the most underwhelming Jeff Goldblum cameo in cinema history.
33. Grandpa’s Great Escape (Elliot Hegarty):
Oh, look another bad TV movie. Davis Walliams consistently finds himself attached to these boring BBC productions never quite capture the heart and care of his writing. Walliams is a good children’s author, but the small screen adaptations of his work always feel rushed and unfocused.
32. Venom (Ruben Fleischer):
The biggest disappointment of 2018. Venom is corny, bland and forgettable. According to IMDB, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is behind this mess but judging by Tom Hardy’s performance and the incomprehensible CGI finale no-one directed this.
31. Solo: A Star Wars Story (Ron Howard):
A soulless, lifeless film that stinks of studio interference. All of the cast feel as if they are just playing the type of character they are expected to (especially Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3-37). There are moments in this film where it feels like there is supposed to be a joke that has awkwardly been edited or written out after Lord and Miller left the project, these moments haunt the film and make me feel like this could have been great, but alas.
30. Death Wish (Eli Roth):
At this point it might be time to consider that Eli Roth might be making bad movies on purpose. I went into Death Wish expecting something needlessly graphic and entertainingly violent and stupid but that’s not what this is. For the most part the gun violence in this film is pretty tame and the dialogue is far to generic and boring to be funny. There is one scene in a garage that showcases what usually makes Roth’s films memorable, but it comes too late to bring this movie into guilty pleasure territory. I do believe that Roth is a good filmmaker but the more he releases these mindless, generic thrillers the harder it is to defend him.
29. The Meg (Jon Turteltaub):
Half of this movie is a self-aware special effects movie that is genuinely entertaining. The other half is a boring and cliché. It should be good but never quite manages to keep up any momentum that it builds.
28. Tomb Raider (Roar Uthaug):
Technically better than the 2001 Lara Croft film although I know which one I would rather watch. Some interesting set pieces and homages to the newer tomb Raider games mixed with bland dialogue and an uninteresting plot.
27. Deadpool 2 (David Leitch):
Not as funny as the first movie but has better action. Deadpool 2 is mixed bag, the satire falls short when the movie insists on upping the stakes and having its audience feel emotionally connected to the story. David Leitch is a good action director and I look forward to seeing what he does next, but I can’t say that I’m all to exited about the next instalments in the Deadpool franchise.
26. Tag (Jeff Tomsic):
I don’t think that this film deserves the hate it seems to have gotten. Tag is a pretty funny movie with memorable characters and good camera work. It’s a little corny and the ending gets way to soppy but it’s a good film to watch with a group of friends if not just for some good Hannibal Buress quotes.
25. Click & Collect (Ben Palmer):
Hey, a TV movie that didn’t suck! Airing on BBC 1 on Christmas Eve this is an example of cringe comedy done well, the plot doesn’t always make sense but that doesn’t stop the comedy from really working.
24. Outlaw King (David Mackenzie):
A pretty good historical drama about Robert the Bruce. That’s all this is really a serviceable movie about an interesting topic. Not bad by any means all though a little forgettable, the performances and fight choreography are great but the writing lacks any real direction.
23. Aquaman (James Wan):
A list of other movies scenes from Aquaman made me think of:
Ratatouille
Splash
Raiders of the Lost Arc
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Black Panther
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Wonder Woman
Full review coming next
22. Ant-Man and the Wasp (Peyton Reed):
Not as funny or engaging as 2015’s Ant-Man. This is a decent blockbuster with some good special effects and funny moments. A lower tier Marvel film for sure that gets completely overshadowed by the other two movies that the studio brought out in 2018 but still a fun watch.
21. Ocean’s Eight (Gary Ross):
About as good as Ocean’s 13. All of the hallmarks of the Ocean’s trilogy are present. The last 15 minuets begin to over explain what we have already seen and the name of the movie spoils and reveal at the end of the movie. A well-directed heist movie none-the-less that should be enjoyable for any Ocean’s fan
20. Ready Player One (Steven Spielberg):
This movie is at its best when it is at its most Spielberg. There is a really great car chase and a plot that revolves around kids standing against authority. It goes on for way to long and some of the references are on the nose. It certainly needs to be cut down but it’s a movie worth seeing if you know your pop-culture.
19. Searching (Aneesh Chaganty):
By far the best example of found-footage to be released in years. Having the entire film appear from the perspective of computer screens and phone calls makes the experience feel far more real and personal as if you are right there figuring out the mystery with the character. The story itself separated from its gimmick has been seen before and the twist is a bit of a reach but with its unique style it feels completely fresh. If you hated Unfriended there is a high chance that you will love this.
18. My Dinner with Hervé (Sacha Gervasi):
A HBO movie featuring a fantastic performance from Peter Dinklage. The life story of French actor Hervé Villechaize is told through a crazy interview based on the one that the actor had with the director in the early 90’s. It’s a small film but one that has been made with a lot of passion from its director and star. Absolutely look this one out if you can.
17. Isle of Dogs (Wes Anderson):
Wes Anderson is responsible for some of my favourite films of all time. While his latest may not be his best work to date it is a beautiful and insanely well-crafted film full of life and wonder. Anderson has a particular style and this movie sums up exactly what makes that style work so well with every shot working perfectly.
16. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (David Slade):
It’s hard to tell at this point whether or not this will start a new craze for choose your own adventure movies the way that Avatar started a craze for 3D. Honestly I don’t think Charlie Brooker has left anywhere to really be explored with the this concept as he dives head first into a meta-narrative all about free-will. Certainly, an ambitious endeavour for the crew of Black Mirror that has taken over the cinematic discussion for a little while. I saw this with a group of friends trying to uncover as much of the story as we could in one sitting and I highly recommend that experience if you haven’t seen/played this yet.
15. Black Panther (Ryan Coogler):
A Marvel movie that appears to have nudged its way into Oscar conversations, regardless of whether or not I think that it deserves that acclaim this is a great film. Black Panther has some of the smartest writing of any MCU movie and one of the best villains to ever appear in a superhero movie. This is a film that will be talked about for years because of what it means for representation, it also helps that it is a really good movie.
14. Game Night (John Francis, Jonathan M. Goldstein):
The biggest surprise of the year is that the two guys behind 2015’s awful Vacation reboot managed to make one of the funniest and well-made comedies of 2018. The camerawork in this film is brilliant, one long take in particular has to be one of my favourite scenes of the year. The plot takes some logical jumps but who cares when the film is this good.
13. A Quiet Place (John Kransinski):
Sure, it doesn’t all make sense when you analyse it but watching A Quiet Place on the big screen is one of the tensest experiences I have ever had. When the credits rolled after the first time I saw this film I noticed that for the past 90 minuets, that’s the sign of some effective tension.
12. First Man (Damien Chazelle):
Chazelle has proven himself to be one of the best directors working today. While I may not love his latest as much as his previous work on La La Land and Whiplash it has to be said that First Man is a solid base hit for a great filmmaker. The third act of this film features some of the best special effects of the year mixed with one of the most emotional sequences of the year. Gosling and Foy are both brilliant and both deserve nominations as does Chazelle.
11. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Martin McDonagh):
Slightly twisted and very enjoyable Three Billboards is a strange film. McDonagh is able to find humour in the darkest of places but never undermines the serious nature of the subject matter.
10. Incredibles 2 (Brad Bird):
Going into the top 10 it feels important to restate that these rankings are based purely on my own personal opinions on each film. Incredibles 2 is objectively not as good as the 2004 original, but it doesn’t have to be, this is a very fun movie featuring some great animation, fantastically directed action sequences that only Brad Bird could pull off and do I even have to mention the Jack-Jack scenes? Brad Bird is one of the greatest filmmakers to ever work in animation and this feels like his victory lap, not his best film but absolutely one that showcases just how great he is.
9. The Shape of Water (Guillermo del Toro):
Best picture winner, The Shape of Water deserves all the acclaim that it has gotten. This “adult fairy-tale” features a wonderful score, fantastic performances, beautiful set-design and characteristically excellent direction from one of the world’s greatest directors! Everyone has already lumped praise on this film and so I am not left with too much else to say other than see this film.
8. The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling (Judd Apatow):
I hear that 2018 was a great year for documentaries, I wouldn't know because I only saw this one but if Three Identical Strangers and Won’t you be my Neighbour are better than this then I need to see them. Judd Apatow looks into the life of his friend and fellow comedian Garry Shandling only 2 years after his tragic death. His approach leaves no stone unturned as he dives head first into the late comedian’s mind using his own diaries and interviews with his closest friends and collaborators. As a stand-up comedy fan it is absolutely fascinating to get a look the real life of an often misunderstood legend like Shandling for it to be as neatly put together and wonderfully entertaining as this is a welcome bonus.
7. Avengers: Infinity War (Joe Russo, Anthony Russo):
For the technical achievement alone Infinity War deserves a place in my top 10. The Russo brothers managed to pull off a stunt that just a year ago I was ready to call impossible, bringing together 10 years worth of character arcs and plot points while still making an enjoyable film. Even though it has been 9 months I still don’t know what to say about this film and my lack of words may be the best compliment I can give it.
6. Mission: Impossible – Fallout (Christopher McQuarrie):
If you asked me in June I would have said that the Mission: Impossible franchise had peaked with Brad Bird’s Ghost Protocol in 2014, I also would have been dead wrong. Fallout is not just the best film in the franchise but an absolute high point in action cinema. Seeing this on the big screen was one of the most visceral and intense movie going experiences I have ever had, every stunt is a nail-biter and the whole time I was on the edge of my seat.
5. Thoroughbreds (Cory Finley):
This is the movie that I saw alone and have yet to properly have a conversation with someone about. This film slipped under almost everyone’s radar and then disappeared. I am telling you now find this movie it is a fantastic, quaint little film with the power to make you uncomfortable and make you laugh at the same time. Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor Joy are both brilliant and the ending has one of my best moments of the year with a single long shot and the power of suggestion. If you missed it, which you probably did, go look it out.
4. BlacKkKlansman (Spike Lee):
Loud, funny, unapologetic, stylish and controversial. Those are the five words that describe all of Spike Lee’s best movies and BlacKkKlansman is no exception. With multiple Oscar worthy performances, a great score and a screenplay that shows Spike at his angriest and smartest in a long time, this film will get under some peoples skin, as great cinema should.
3. I, Toyna (Craig Gillespie):
Every now and then a movie comes along that perfectly sums up why I love this art form, I Tonya is one of those movies. Deeply impactfull on an emotional level while remaining hyper stylised, Gillespie manages to make the audience feel sympathy for characters that would be the villains in any other story by taking you on an emotional roller coaster through the life of Tonya Harding that leaves the viewer feeling just as broken as the titular character by the conclusion.
This film is so good I watched it twice in two days.
2. Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig):
I fell hard for this film. Greta Gerwig’s painfully honest look at growing up feels like watching a selection of incredibly well shot home movies from a real person. The real achievement of Gerwig’s directorial debut is how it manages to feel relatable even if you aren’t in the same situation as the protagonist. When the credits role it’s hard to feel slightly disappointed that you can’t keep watching what is going to happen to this character next and when the only criticism you have is that you didn't want it to end, the film must have been pretty good.
1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman):
I’m just as surprised as you are.
Somehow and for whatever reason this is the movie that resonated with me the most in 2018, this is the film I see myself going back to the most. Sometimes the best film is the most entertaining one, this film had me hooked instantly and kept me in a near trance-like state during its run-time. In don’t have anything to profound to say about this film it’s just really a great film that everyone can enjoy. If this is still playing near you and you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out you won’t be disappointed.

Living Re-wired
I had stopped writing for years. My grandfather had died and so did my interest in using writing as my outlet. A friend suggested that I start again. I was weary and chose to ignore her thoughtful gesture. Now here I am fighting the toughest battle I've ever fought and I think its time I start writing...not just for me but for everyone around me.
Since 2013, I have known about my condition. At 23 years old I was told I was too young to have these kind of spinal problems, that didn't keep me from having them though. Ive known since then that the road to healing was going to be long, painful and full of surgeries. When the hospital I worked at basically threw me to the wolves and forgot about me, I was hurt. When the doctor I was sent to see basically said I was faking it and sent me BACK to work...just to re-injure my back again, I was angry. Thats when I finally stopped cowering and stood up to fight.
I’ve been fighting for 4 years dealing with the most debilitating chronic back pain I have ever known. I have multiple levels of spinal degeneration from L3 to S1. I have had 3 herniated disks. My body has gone through now two surgeries to keep me mobile and reduce the pain. All temporarily successful.
Im writing today about surgery #2. I am a little over 2 weeks post op. This is my second micro-discectomy with laminectomy. First surgery on the right side of my spine though.
I have found that the hardest part of all of this is re-wiring your brain. Normal things you once did freely before are now things you should not be doing. How do you remember that though?
My husband and I took the dog to the dog beach yesterday and a ball rolled by. My natural reaction was to bend down and pick it up...like a normal person would do. In that moment of reaching down I realized that this was NOT something I was supposed to be doing. OOPS. Then I felt a ZING of pain in my left low back. I instantly was so angry with myself.
“I know better.” “Why did I do that?” ”Im an idiot.” “Why was I even at the dog beach?” “I should be at home.” “I shouldn't put myself around all of these triggers to bend down.”
CAN YOU SAY NEGATIVE SELF TALK? Sheesh. (half of them were true)
If anything I have remained firm on the fact that I will NOT let this pain keep me from living my life. EVER. I will do normal things to the best of my ability. Going to the dog beach was one of those things.
So, There I am on the beach thinking, “I don't think I can walk back to the car.” “They are going to have to medi-vac me in a damn helicopter just because I wanted to pick up a fucking tennis ball.” As I limped and tried to shuffle and throw my left leg to walk... pain shot through my entire body. I felt like an idiot. I felt like a side show act. I can't even pick up a tennis ball. Then my thoughts continued to roll downward. “How can I even have a baby?” “ I can't even lift my leg to walk much less tote around a baby and a diaper bag.”
With that I was crushed. I hate how quickly I slide down the rabbit hole of depressing thoughts. I eventually did walk back to the car with the help of my adorable husband.
I then took as many pain killers as I was able to and tried to forget about the world.
Mind you, I am such a joyful person. God has blessed me in so many beautiful ways. I wake up everyday so excited to see who I get to meet weather its at the grocery store or at Target. I get overly giddy at the thought of being able to help someone, anyone, thats my love language that God intently made me to have. So, I am the nurturing helper of all people. Here I am now, the hurt one who can barely nurture her 7 month old puppy. Now I have to be the one cared for seeing as I can't do much for myself. Its mortifying. I don't know what each day could bring. Im in more pain than Ive ever been in. Even sitting down scares me because I'm not sure if I can get back up again.
I haven't worked in a hospital in about 4 years. I love nursing. I love my job. It gives me so much joy. Now, I can't do hospital nursing anymore. I do home health, visiting older people in their homes, checking on their meds, helping with chores they can't do anymore, that kind of thing. I only do it when my back isn't flaring up. I can go a whole year sometimes with no huge upset. I get the occasional spasm but I am able to work through it. My pain tolerance is exceptionally high. So when I say Im in pain, I'm actually in TONS of pain.
side note...
[[I’ll never forget meeting a Doctor who was in his 70′s. He looked at my MRI and told me he expected me to be in a wheel chair. He also smugly stated that his spine at 73, was better than mine was at (then) 24. He later “ironically,” had a skiing accident and hurt his back. Karma much? lol]]
Today, today is hard. Tomorrow, It could be harder. The point is that I'm ready for it. Whatever life throws at me, I have Jesus, Im not afraid to face it because I'm never alone. The worst part about today? Not having my husband here with me. I was so mortified sitting in the chair and realizing that at every try to get up, I couldn't. THAT was scary. It took me 5 or 6 tries to get up. Why couldn't I? The pain that shot through my body was so severe that I almost couldn't breathe at each attempt. THE worst part was that I was getting up to go to the bathroom. Some days I feel like one of my elderly patients. How the tables have turned.
Fear is a real thing. I have always been fearless, to a fault at times. Nothing has scared me more than this has though. Im afraid to get into the jacuzzi alone because I might not be able to get out. Im afraid to walk the dog alone in fear something would happen and I wouldn’t be able to walk home.
I have the most incredible husband in the world. He has been with me since the start of all of this back drama. I couldn't do life without him. I feel terrible that he has to take on so much because I can't help. He has done the cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry and dog duty for two months now. Being the caretaker that I am, its so hard to have others care for me. The guilt I feel is heavy. I want to take care of HIM. He works all day to come home to me, a messy woman in the depths of pain and despair. He never complains, he only lifts me up. He tells me how beautiful I am, when I haven't showered in days. I don't deserve him but I love him more than anything in this world.
Anyway, moral of the story?
I am able.
I am strong.
I am loved.
I am useful.
I need rest.
I need the help of others.
I need to let others love on me during this period of respite.
I don't need to prove myself to myself.
I don't need to play Super Girl. I don't need to pretend I’m ok when I’m not. Its ok to cry. It’s ok to trust God with my story. [[HE is the one writing it for goodness sake.]] It’s ok to feel. It’s ok to be honest. its ok to just be... if all you did today was breathe...thats ok too.

Star Wars: What We’d Like to See in a Lando TV series
https://ift.tt/2ORlYFu
Solo: A Star Wars story brought Lando Calrissian into the new canon in a big way. Donald Glover wore the cape for the prequel, and was lauded as one of the highlights of the film. However, Solo didn’t perform well enough at the box office to warrant any big screen sequels or additional spinoffs.
But with The Mandalorian a major success on Disney+, rumors about upcoming Star Wars live-action shows are booming. Lando is no exception. Glover is rumored to be returning to the role of for his own Disney+ series. Officially, nothing has been said about the possibility (and representatives for Mr. Glover have not responded to inquiries from Den of Geek as of this writing). As of July 14, Solo star Alden Ehrenreich said he had only heard rumors of upcoming Solo-related spinoffs.
Either way, Lando clearly has staying power. His return in The Rise of Skywalker was original actor Billy Dee Williams’ first reprisal of the character since Return of the Jedi. While Lando is alive and well (and maybe helping ex-stormtroopers) in the current sequel era of the Star Wars franchise, his future is unknown. Meanwhile, the franchise is all-in on exploring the Original Trilogy and the Dark Times after the Republic fell. If Donald Glover does return, that’s the era he would best suit.
If Lando headlined his own TV series, what should it include?
Characterization Closer to the Original Trilogy
Lando’s The Rise of Skywalker appearance wasn’t particularly deep, but Glover’s performance in Solo returned to the two major aspects of the character: an out-for-himself scoundrel ethos that hides a moral center. In The Empire Strikes Back, Lando reluctantly helps his friends even with Darth Vader threatening him directly.
Lando fulfills the Star Wars fantasy of being a witty, happy-go-lucky smuggler with an extensive wardrobe and the ability to escape any dead-end situation, and he’s also a good guy at heart.
Acknowledge L3’s Role in Lando’s Piloting Career
Lando owned the Millennium Falcon before Han Solo, but had very different attitude toward the ship. Much of that was because of L3, a droid whose brain was later uploaded into the Falcon‘s computers. She did most of the hard work of piloting.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Easter Eggs and Reference Guide
By John Saavedra
L3’s death explains why the Millennium Falcon has multiple droid brains and perhaps some of its other quirks in the Original Trilogy. Maybe a new show could explore Lando’s grief, or how L3 is settling into the ship (although since it’s in Han’s possession now, that might be less likely).
Lando’s bond with the Falcon eventually comes back into play when he helps destroy the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi, so the show has some room to show Lando becoming a better pilot and reuniting with his former partner. Lando also had a droid friend in the Expanded Universe, a five-armed wanderer named Vuffi Raa, and maybe they could show up here.
A Return to the Expanded Universe with Treasure Hunts
In the early ’80s, Lando starred in a series of adventure novels that established previously unknown elements of his history. These books cast him as a con artist turned treasure hunter that ends up accidentally helping alien civilizations recover lost artifacts. The first book, Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu, was referenced as happening in canon in one capacity or another, according to Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide.
Either way, ancient ruins and alien treasure could be a fun topic for a television show that would lend itself to an episodic format.
Give Solo Side Characters a Change to Shine
Like any Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story proved that some of the most memorable characters appeared on the sidelines. Rebel leader Enfys Nest and Qi’Ra, once Han Solo’s fellow orphan and now the boss of the Crimson Dawn gang, could both kick off exiting stories if they cross paths with Lando again.

Enfys could ask Lando to help out the Rebellion, which is still a fledgling effort at the time of Solo. After all, we know he later helps Leia often.
Qi’Ra is the opposite of a scoundrel with a heart of gold: she grabbed power in an effort to protect herself, and a television show could develop her further as an antagonist for Lando who already knows some of the most critical parts of his history.
Don’t Forget Star Wars Rebels
Speaking of Rebels, a Lando show set during the dark times has some crossover potential with the animated series Star Wars Rebels since Lando will later work with the crew of the Ghost. Hera Syndulla was operating as a Rebel in the early days, and although based on their meeting in Rebels it doesn’t seem likely they knew each other before, they could wind up involved in the same missions if Lando gets into trouble with the Empire. Another Rebels connection could be found if Lando ever has dealings with Jedi like Kanan Jarrus on the run from the Empire.

Star Wars Episode IX: Lando and the New Resistance Heroes
By Megan Crouse
As Lando is quick to remind people, he is sometimes a legitimate businessman, and knows his way around running Cloud City as well as he knows how to play cards. The Empire Strikes Back shows him as a competent leader motivated to protect his people from the Empire, and not just because he needs them to make a profit.
Admittedly, it’s hard to make the details of finance and numbers interesting enough visually to carry a whole episode, let alone an entire series, especially with science fiction currency that needs to mean something to the casual viewer. But if anyone can figure out how to make viewers invested in the Coruscant stock market or something along those lines, Lando would be a good character for it.
Or maybe the show should stick to Sabacc.
Explore Lando’s Family, Without Making The Universe Smaller
The Rise of Skywalker implied that ex-stormtrooper Jannah may or may not have been Lando’s kidnapped daughter. It was an odd conversation, presenting with a wink and a nudge something important and emotional that may or may not have happened.
However, the subject of Lando’s family is still interesting as long as Star Wars avoids a big pitfall. It’s not a good look to imply that most of the Black characters in the series are related, even if Finn, Jannah, and background characters have improved the franchise’s often wildly skewed racial demographics. The Dark Times would be too early to show any connection to Jannah anyway, and Lando isn’t one to settle down.
Some clarification on the family he came from would also be interesting – who are the Calrissians? How did they fare during the fall of the Republic?
