“his father called him. saying he needs Nico for the underworld things. complicated applications, judge control and all that stuff. he said he needs to check up on Menoetes’ work too, for the nectar and ambrosia collecting. you know, being the prince of the underworld. he promised not going on Tartarus though. he said to check on Asphodel and Elysium too.” Austin nods on that.

“I just- I just-? you know I’m-“ Will sat down before Austin walks to him. “you’re worrying his safety. Will, you do know he survived two wars with and without us. he went to tartarus twice, Will. he’ll be okay. he’ll be fine.” Will sighed. “he only pack his stygian iron sword and the clothes he wear!” Austin shrugged. “pretty sure he has his own room is his dad’s palace? era, ero?-“ “Erebos. you’re right. but what if he gets hurt? what if-“ graaughhr

“Sweet Apollo! you scar’d me!”

“Will, wha- is this a zombie?!”

Will gives Austin’s weirded out look the same look. “I don’t know? what are you doing here, Mr. Zombie?” graughrhs. said the undead, while holding out a surprisingly clean letter—sealed with black stamp, and a black box filled with two family packs of golden Oreos , enough ambrosia squares and canteens full with nectar. the zombie—somehow shyly—also held out a flower bouquet of night-blooming cereus (which is the flower persephone offer to him), hyacinthus and asphodels.

the Mr. Zombie then take a few space from both Will Solace and Austin Lake and stood there as Will processing of what just happened. “dude, I think it’s from Nico.” Austin gets a hold of the box and bouquet onto the table as he watch his brother holding onto the letter as if it was an ancient victorian fragile artifact. “whoa, do I need to get Cecil and Lou Ellen?” “nah, stay with me, Austin. catch me if I pass out.”

“and fill the shift alone? damn man.” but he agreed anyway as Will undo the stamp after reading the swift writing on the envelope.

Cecil pops his stolen lolly. “I don’t know, Will. how are you so calm about a zombie being your transpor of sending messages? aren’t you scared?” Will shrugs. “at first, it does. but now? I’m waiting for his presence! to know what my boyfriend’s doing!”

okay so i saw The Bikeriders today and i knew i wouldn't be normal about this movie and even though my expectations were impossibly high it exceeded them. i was happy for it to just be a cool movie for the sake of being a cool movie, toxic masculinity ultraviolence whatever, and it was but with Jodie Comer's character narrating about what fucking idiots all these macho biker dudes are. it's like if a woman narrated Fight Club while constantly pointing out how stupid Fight Club is

idk man it's just a whole-ass movie about how vietnam changed the very definition of masculinity, and that awkward era between wwii and vietnam when guys were rebellious for the aesthetic, rebel without a cause shit, twinks in leather jackets manhood. the movie even points that out, like they're so against rules but then they make all these rules for their silly little biker gang because they're bored. and then allll these vets come home from a war nobody wanted and they're actually rebelling, full anti-establishment, and there's just no more honor anymore because everybody's broken. which is all to say, somebody please come into my ask and be insane about this movie with me.

dark souls lore: velka, goddess of sin, and that stupid plot against the stupid gods (5k words)

*written to entertain both hardcore fans and fandom rubberneckers

i made the mistake of thinking about dark souls lore the other day after choosing to make myself mad about the remaster again, but in the worst possible way. soulsborne fans know to fear and run from anyone who starts talking about this unseen character known only through item descriptions: velka, goddess of sin. if you start talking about velka you’re too far gone in the souls sauce and about to spout some of the most unhinged nonsense ever uttered by a human on the entire history of the planet. velka and the highly secretive “plot against the gods” are quietly mentioned in less than 10 item descriptions. no character utters her name or speaks of the rebellion she participated in, she and her comrades do not appear in the game…probably. its complicated.

her inclusion initially reads as a throw-away means of world-building; much like the now infamous line about the “clone wars” in “star wars: a new hope” that was needlessly fleshed out into a trilogy that haunts us even to this day, the item descriptions serve to establish that you have entered a world overflowing with heroes and history that you were not privy to nor took part in. these events are such a basic foundation of lordran history that no one mentions it because it would be inorganic and narratively heavy-handed. its like if we walked around talking about when lincoln was shot on a day to day basis just in case anyone wasn’t up to speed.

anyway, this thought process started after i realized how fucking weird it is that a giant crow transports you from undead asylum to firelink shrine…why would it do that??? like, yes, obviously it’s a gameplay contrivance in order to get you from point A to point B with a cinematic, fantastical flair, i understand that. i also understand that velka herself is a gameplay contrivance with story written around it to soften the landing, but unfortunately, dark souls is a thread that unravels quickly when you pick at it, revealing shocking narrative cohesion underneath. if you’re completely insane, that is.

we will do this in a journalistic manner: who, what, when, where, why. but first, it requires a lot of dark souls history/lore context. it’s a lot. stick with me.

23. what was your favorite moment and why?

"oooh that's a very hard question" ...is what I might've said, if this wasn't the light yagami animanga series and light yagami makes me insane. uhhh. I do have several though, if that's allowed.

(update: when I said "several" I meant uh. a lot apparently. whoops)

favourite line / favourite moment in a "holy wow this is amazing thematically": the. y'know. "Tell me, Light, from the moment you were born, have you ever told the truth?" line in the anime rain scene. yeah. holy fuck that is amazing because I LOVE that sort of thing. as far as character traits go, there's like nothing I love more than characters that are liars who lie lyingly (multiple types of this apply). it's truly, truly the best.

favourite moments based on what I repeatedly rewatched immediately following my first watch of the anime: there are, uh. three (in no particular order)

light goes home from the entrance ceremony, incredibly stone-faced (like 😐) the entire way -> gets home, gets up the stairs, opens the door, shuts the door, sits down on his chair, suddenly starts shaking -> blows up "Dammit! He got me! Damn L! I have never been so humiliated in my life!" (even Ryuk comments internally that he's never seen him lose his composure so much) -> suddenly laughs and calms down talking about how it's a battle of wits now and he'll make L trust him and kill him, with his own hands if necessary. i rewatched this several times in a row which was definitely very normal of me.

look at him. grumpy but in like an extremely restrained way (his face is even hidden). until it breaks completely in the next page lol

the last episode. light trying so hard not to laugh/smirk in the warehouse, then he reveals himself as kira (a lot of laughing), and he loses and falls pathetically, shouting for kiyomi and mikami and misa after matsuda shoots him, and then runs in the beautiful sunset, passing his younger high school self by, and seeing a vision of L before he dies on the stairs. all this is great and i did an immediate rewatch of this episode after finishing it

the Relight scene where Light laughs on top of L's grave soil. it's conceptually fucked up in an amazing way that really really appeals to me. murder and grave desecration are really romantic/beautiful/erotic on principle.

as you can see I am very normal. as you can see I am a very normal Light Yagami fan. one of those two statements may be unironically true, but the two statements inherently cannot go together. anyway this particular selection of scenes totally doesn't actually say anything about me right but anyway I'm right those are totally the best please torture light some more everyone

favourite moments I didn't immediately repeatedly rewatch/reread like that but are still my absolute top favourites:

The entire first episode because DAMN did it hook me completely very, very fast. I did NOT know there was going to be Faustian contract + god complex&general big ego + everything else in one in this little and very infamous character known as "Light Yagami". my expectations were blown instantly and I got obsessed with DN right away

L and Light declaring war on each other over the live broadcast and L asking and taunting Light/Kira to kill him. amazing. it was really... gay. sorry I can't think of a better word lmfao

L's death scene oh my god. GOD I loved (and was really really amazed/impressed by by) Light rushing to him at once and basically lying on top of him for a second, so that he will die in his arms. GOD. it is SO. like yeah this is literally my favourite sort of thing holy shit it is amazing (it's to gloat to him and to declare victory before his death, and it's to pretend to the Task Force too, and yet it seemed like such an instinctual reaction really that I think his first instinct really IS to hold him in his arms before he dies. this is really good). and the dramatic performance afterwards. I love it

on a COMPLETELY different note. JESUS CHRIST I love Soichiro's death scene actually. because holy fuck the multi-layered irony. I really love it. actually I think I wrote about that scene long before I even really wrote anything else about DN. alright here:

idk if I still 100% agree with my initial impression but it should still overall hold and MAN. I definitely loved it (<- fan of irony) (<- extremely, extremely normal Light Yagami fan) (<- fan of Soichiro also, to a lesser extent)

favourite moment that gave me a lot of thoughts when I'm reading the manga: (even though I already first watched the anime and this stuff is also in the anime)

the moment where Rem is like "okay I will kill L" and Light, person who has been plotting this exact murder for ages, is like. Oh shit. he'll die...? which is. man. Light sure is Light

favourite manga-exclusive moments:

Light not considering killing Sayu. Light asking Soichiro to promise him to come back alive with Sayu. that scene afterwards where Soichiro is at home thinking he should die. (at least I think those weren't in the anime?)

the manga ending is also good

I like that the manga tells us he lost weight and has nightmares due to using the death note. (it possibly has happened to anime light too but we don't get to see it)

not a "favorite moment" exactly, but while the scene is beautiful I don't like Misa dying in the end despite how much I adore everything else in that episode, so I like that Misa doesn't canonically die like that in the manga

also hmm this might be a less popular opinion, but personally I also love some of anime Light's characterization tidbits that differs from the manga (e.g. first episode). I would say it's because it's maybe very slightly more relatable for me but that probably sounds wack lmao so

favourite moments based on how comedic I find them: (not including ones I already included in other sections) DN is such an amazing comedy I'm not even kidding

the whole handcuffs thing oh my god. homophobic misa moment. I didn't think she'd actually call him gay, but there it was. also just fken. buddy. L??????? why and how and in what world was there an absolute need for this totally normal, totally appropriate, absolutely most safe and most ideal method of interrogating criminals. I was laughing because god. that's not even. yeah okay I'm happy with it but LMFAO YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS. and Light just easily went along with it

the... the... first date scene. I was like oh my god c'MON you two. I didn't think something like this would be so like this in the actual canon manga. first date where Misa is being thirdwheeled while Light and L sit together chained together and then they focus all energy on talking to each other and then they get into a fist fight (date activity) all over the room. combined with the later dunking on matsuda. this is LITERALLY how a fucking sitcom goes at this point.

the anime's footwashing also. not the scene itself necessarily but just the fact that it fucking exists between lawlight and is. Like THAT????? lmfao like what the hell

ALSO the. fken. Matsuda fake death scene lmfao it was so wack in retrospect

man I can't even include all of it here because Light Yagami is so entertaining to me in 85%+ of all the scenes she appears in in one way or another like his existence itself is peak entertainment to me. it's entertaining when Light is humiliated and it's entertaining when he's succeeding. and like I mean, he's the protagonist of the whole manga / show, and I mean I can't list every moment in the series can I. lmao

favourite moments that don't have light yagami in it: I'm sorry everyone else but I am especially obsessed with light. as you can see. however I love many other characters too

neurodivergence + mental illnesses headcanons

[disclaimer: please read this post first. if you disagree, you can skip over this and skip to the next section!]

aside from OCD and autism, imo Light has NPD with some ASPD traits, and also bipolar. this is because the way his mental illnesses are is like. I feel represented lol. (not as in I have every one of those things I listed, but I probably have some/most of them, and the combinations are interesting). even though this is unfortunately Light Yagami. but I really like him for that too tbh because man. I don't get to see that stuff often. (like idk how to explain it. even though I'd never even remotely pull that kinda stuff because of differences in personalities, values, background, abilities, and manifestation and degree of symptoms, etc. however some of his mannerisms sometimes feel right on point e.g. I feel like the way he is like sometimes gives me depression + hypomanic/manic vibes, in a way where I can see myself in him if it makes sense lmao)

on that note Misa 100% very BPD I agree. I wanna say on top of autism, L also seems to have some ASPD traits imo. Near is autistic but I think that goes without saying lol. Mello has like... C-PTSD and/or NPD. and then this probably not a very unexpected take, but Matsuda has ADHD or audhd vibes. OH and! Soichiro also very much has OCD and autism, imo.

other headcanons:

not a hot take, but Mello and Near are both nonbinary and/or genderqueer (and/or otherwise trans, if not applicable) to me (could be transmasc or transfem, not necessarily transneutral; I could see either or any direction among those, although I would say I lean toward seeing Near as transfem and/or nonbinary, and Mello as transmasc and/or genderqueer).

Light is demi, and has had a covert superiority complex about not feeling attraction unlike his peers (like. you can view him deciding to use porn mag reading to prove himself as a normal teenage boy as indicative of his subconscious? mental association of his more "normal" peers as, like.... unfortunate horny perverts. in a way. if that makes sense) I know how it feels because I was kinda like this in grade 6-8

Sans knew it was too good to be true. Flowey has been too quiet lately, Sans almost would’ve forgotten about him were it not for the fact that the weed is just a constant in the back of his mind.

He thinks the flower is watching you just to see what will happen with you, but Alphys swears this has only been a recent thing. If that’s the case, Flowey is probably getting bored by now. Maybe Flowey is starting to realize that you intend to stay here to live out your life.

In any case, if Flowey remembers their previous interactions at all, then he’ll be smart to not interfere. Sans can and will kill Flowey without hesitation.

God, that just reminds him of Frisk. He hopes (which is crazy for him to genuinely hope for anything at all) Frisk never shows up here ever again. Because honestly, Sans might just kill Flowey anyway, and he doesn’t want the damn kid to Reset that.

Unless… It’s been so long, can Flowey Reset now? Or is that power still with Frisk? He would imagine that if Flowey can Reset, then he would’ve done so already months ago. Flowey gets bored so easily, he would’ve done something about it by now.

Man. Where the fuck is Frisk, anyway?

Sans pockets the vitamin bottles Alphys handed to him, putting them away in his little aether for safe keeping.

“thanks for telling me all this, alphys,” Sans smiles calmly as he walks with her, “i uh, i appreciate it.”

Alphys nods as she hurries a few steps ahead to reach the panel to open the doors, “O-Of course, S-Sans. That fl-flower… you know it c-can o-only mean trouble…”

“speaking of, where did you last see the damn thing?”

“It was a f-few days ago wh-when you, [Y/n], and Papyrus w-went to Waterfalls and cau–and caught a few cats.” She informs him, “[Y-Y/n] went off to a path I couldn’t follow, but I-I think the fl-flower lost her, too.”

Shit. Maybe those stupid cameras aren’t so bad after all.

“you have my number still, yeah? keep me updated about the flower?”

“Yeah, o-of course!”

“cool. i’mma go look around for it, but chances are i won’t actually find anything.”

“Oh, b-before you go!”

Alphys runs back to her chaotic desk next to the large monitor screen. She searches for something under the desk for a moment, having to push aside a few things to grab at it. She really needs to clean up her work space soon…

Alphys grabs a purple wrapped box from under the desk, the box being rather large in size. Watching off to the side since she can’t see over the box, Alphys hurries back to Sans and presents the box to him.

He takes it from her hesitantly; it’s not very heavy, Sans could comfortably toss it without having to risk hurting himself.

“This is f-for her. I um… Pl-Please don’t open it. I-It ha–It has s-some uh… l-lady products… I-I ha-had to do a lot of… a lot of research, so…”

Immediately, Sans gets war flashbacks to your period and menstrual cycle talk. There’s a cyan glow around the box, then it disappears into the aether.

“got it. for [y/n]’s eyes only,” He almost winces but holds his expression together, “when [y/n] gets back next week… maybe you two can meet? i bet she’d like to have another pal who’s on her side.”

Alphys perks up with an eager smile, but it deflates as soon as it arrives. Her shoulders sulk and she fiddles with her hands.

“Oh, th-that’d be n-nice, but if I-I go to Snowdin suddenly, U-Undyne will know an-and ask me about it.” She sighs defeatedly, “An-And s–And sometimes Undyne comes by wi–comes by without calling first. S-So, it’s best not to r-risk it…”

Yeah, that’s… probably the best move for now. It’s nice of Alphys to take that into consideration, and to put you first over her desire to meet you. Still, it’s moments like these that remind Sans just how annoying Undyne’s prejudice against humans can be.

He laughs awkwardly, “well, eventually, i guess. we’ll figure something out.”

“Y-Yeah, for sure!” She pipes up, “Uh, may-maybe just tell her I-I said hello, a-and that I think sh-she’s neat!”

“i will, alph.” Sans puts one hand in his pocket, and the other up to his head for a lazy salute, “see ya.”

Sans was going to walk back to Snowdin, but he realized that he can’t afford to waste a lot of time. He told Papyrus he’d be back soon, so he should keep his word. And since Alphys knows this little trick, Sans has no issue just shortcutting out of there and straight into his home. More specifically, his shared room with you.

He still very much wants to look around for a wild Flowey sighting, but he should focus on his other tasks first.

Sans pulls your vitamins and special gift out of the void, leaving them on the dresser. Stretching his arms above his head, he leaves the room with a sudden laziness. Something about being home brings out that side of him; Sans can’t allow himself to get side tracked, though.

Ah, he can already hear your pretty little voice in his numb-skull: “Sans, do something.”

And all he can do is just nod like a soggy cat while saying “yes, dear.”

Such is life, he supposes.

“papyrus…!” Sans calls out, “you still here?”

Childe meows loudly from downstairs. Good to know the cat is chillin’.

“YES, SANS.” Papyrus responds from the living room, “WELCOME BACK. HOW DID THINGS GO?”

“miss her already, bro.” Sans says light heartedly, “nah, but in all seriousness, it was good. i met the monster lady who was taking care of [y/n] before she moved in with us: toriel. she seems nice, and she definitely sees herself as [y/n]’s mom.”

“TORIEL? THAT NAME SOUNDS FAMILIAR… I THINK I’VE READ THAT NAME BEFORE.”

Sans stops at the bottom of the stairs, letting the kitty, Morax, rub against his legs, “wait, what? read it where?”

“IN A HISTORY BOOK. IT WAS AN OLD ONE, BUT IT WAS ABOUT THE KING AND QUEEN. AS A FUTURE MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD, OF COURSE I HAD TO TAKE IT UPON MYSELF TO LEARN A THING OR TWO,” Papyrus is sitting on the couch, holding Childe up in the air and Childe is just limply letting it happen. “IF TORIEL IS THE QUEEN, AND SHE VIEWS HERSELF AS [Y/N]’S MOTHER, DOES THAT MAKE [Y/N] A PRINCESS?”

“uhh…”

“YOU WOULD BE A GOOD PRINCE, BROTHER! I CAN’T NAME THE REASONS WHY, BUT AS YOUR LOVING SIBLING, I AUTOMATICALLY THINK YOU WOULD BE A GOOD RULER ANYWAY.”

“…gee, thanks. happy to know compliments come easy to you.”

“ALWAYS A PLEASURE, SANS.”

Sigh.

Sans carefully walks around Morax, moving to the couch as well. He sits next to his brother, and finds delight in the way Morax immediately jumps on his lap. Huh, maybe you were right. Maybe the cats like them, after all.

“I TOOK THE CATS OUT ALREADY, BY THE WAY. CATS ARE RATHER PRIVATE, MORE SO THAN DOGS, YOU KNOW?”

“really? [y/n] said they’re a lot more independent than dogs, too, but haven’t they been pretty clingy?”

“I DID THINK SO AS WELL, BUT THEY’RE SO CUTE, SO IT’S OKAY!” Papyrus raises Childe higher, “DON’T YOU AGREE, CHILDE?”

“wahh.”

“ANYWAY, SANS. I WAS THINKING WE SHOULD GO GROCERY SHOPPING. MIGHT AS WELL DO IT NOW RATHER THAN LATER. HOW ABOUT IT?”

“sure, i’m game.”

If only to use this as an excuse to get out of the house. It’ll be good to see if Flowey would be anywhere, too. If Sans can’t even catch a glimpse of the damn weed, then he might be back in the Ruins to stalk you.

Isn’t he being too clingy? He needs to chill out and trust that you can take care of yourself. You can take care of yourself, and Toriel is with you, too.

“actually, papyrus,” Sans rubs the side of his face, “there’s something i gotta tell you. it’s related to the dj machine [y/n] and i’ve been using.”

Papyrus raises a bone brow, staying seated by his relative, “OKAY…? WHAT IS IT?”

“i told you how we’re going to these alternate universes and timelines using the machine…”

“YES, A NORMAL WEEKDAY ACTIVITY FOR YOU.”

“right, right. but… i never told you why we’re doing it.”

“Y-YES, WELL. I FIGURED THAT YOU WOULD TELL ME EVENTUALLY. WHEN YOU DEEMED IT TO BE IMPORTANT FOR ME TO KNOW.”

Sans nods, “yeah, that’s–i mean, that was the plan. at first. but… i decided that i need to tell you now since it won’t be fair if you’re the last one to know.”

Papyrus clears his throat, “YOU MAKE IT SOUND SO SERIOUS, BROTHER. BUT IT’S ONLY ME, YOU CAN TELL ME WHATEVER IT IS YOU NEED TO TELL ME.”

“i know, paps.” It’s Sans’ turn to clear his throat, “so… [y/n] and i have been working on bringing back… our dad. gaster.”

“…OH.”

“yeah… he’s–scattered across space and time, so we’re going around to collect his pieces and possibly put him back in one piece?” Sans’ grin becomes nervous, “uhm… so… yeah.”

“WOW, UH…” Papyrus looks away with a grimace. “THAT’S… QUITE THE PASSION PROJECT YOU TWO HAVE GOING ON. NYEH-HEH…”

Papyrus has to wonder now, if all those weeks ago, when you asked him about other skeleton monsters, was it because it was related to Gaster? Was this something you had known about for this long? Instead of directly asking him, you had to find a way to ask Sans instead.

“how–how do you feel?” Sans asks.

“I’M NOT–SURE… I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD BE MORE EXCITED OR HAPPY ABOUT THIS. AND I SUPPOSE I AM, TRULY! WHO DOESN’T WANT TO BE REUNITED WITH THEIR FATHER WHO GOT SCATTERED ACROSS SPACE AND TIME?” Papyrus scrunches his face, “BUT… IT IS DIFFICULT TO BE OVER THE MOON ABOUT IT. THE MEMORIES I HAVE OF HIM ARE VAGUE AT BEST, AND IT’S NOT AS IF I’M EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED, EITHER.”

Sans nods understandingly, listening quietly to his precious brother pouring his heart out.

“I’M SURE MAYBE I WILL FEEL DIFFERENT ONCE HE’S ACTUALLY HERE IN THE FLESH. IN THE BONEY-FLESH. BUT…” Papyrus makes a vague motion with his hand. He can’t put his thoughts and feelings into words, and it frustrates him to no end, “IS THIS WHOLE JOURNEY DANGEROUS TO YOU AND [Y/N]?”

Uhhhh-

“w-well… there were… you know, moments…” Sans shakes his head, “nothing we couldn’t handle, all part of the adventure.”

“SURE, SURE.”

Sans didn’t think this would be as awkward as it is. He expected his brother to be more hyped and ecstatic, but he clearly got it all wrong.

“TO BE HONEST, I’M NOT–IT’S NOT AS IF THE IDEA OF OUR FATHER RETURNING TO US IS UNPLEASANT, IT’S JUST… I DON’T KNOW, SANS,” Papyrus groans at his own ineptness, “I ALREADY HAVE YOU AND [Y/N], AND NOW CHILDE AND MORAX. I SUPPOSE WHEN I HAVE ALL I COULD NEED NOW, IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE WANTING MORE.”

…Oof. That hit really hard in a way Sans wasn’t expecting.

It’s clear that between them two, Sans is the one with more solid memories regarding Gaster. Papyrus’s memories are more foggy, and his emotions attached to said emotions must not be as strong, either.

Sans is essentially trying to get Papyrus excited about a stranger.

Papyrus might’ve been excited too, but that would be before meeting you. You have such a strong presence in Papyrus’ life, that you might’ve literally filled that void in him. He doesn’t need anyone else in his little family, he has it all now.

Honestly, Sans could learn a thing or two from his brother. They’re already in this situation, so Sans isn’t going to stop now. But if he were in Papyrus’ shoes, he wouldn’t feel the need to add anyone else too.

You, Sans, Papyrus–and the cats, as well now–the family is as complete as it could possibly get.

“i hear you, paps, i do,” Sans pats his brother on the back, “don’t think that you gotta feel a certain way just because of this. i told you since, well, he’s our dad, but don’t force yourself to be more happy or excited than you are. the day that comes that he’ll be here in person, i want you to be prepared for it.”

His shoulders relax some, “I APPRECIATE THE HEADS UP, BROTHER. HOW DID YOU AND [Y/N] GET INVOLVED IN SUCH A THING?”

“uhh… it came to her in a dream.”

“NYEH… WELL, ALRIGHT.”

So simple!!

“SO, I SUPPOSE YOU WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE ANY HAPPY FATHER DAY GIFTS,” Papyrus concludes with a nod, “AT LEAST YOU WILL STILL HAVE MOTHER’S DAY, SANS.”

Awe, that’s a shame. Sans actually likes getting gifts for Father’s day and Mother’s day. That’s the price he must pay to revive his dad from the Shadow Realm.

“there’s also one other thing,” Sans might as well bring it up now, “it’s about [y/n].”

“DON’T YOU DARE BREAK UP WITH HER, SANS. I WILL MAKE SURE YOU REPENT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LONG, LONG LIFE IF YOU DO!!”

“jesus, no! i’m not ending things with her! why–where did that even come from??” Sans puts his hand on his chest like he’s clutching his pearls, “papyrus, this is about her safety.”

“OH, I SEE.” He beams as if he didn’t just threaten his only family, “SO, WHAT IS THE MATTER? IT’S NOT UNDYNE, IS IT? SHE HAS AGREED TO LET ME GUARD SNOWDIN FOR A WHILE NOW, SO THERE IS NO REASON FOR HER TO HAVE HEARD OF [Y/N].”

Huh, so what Alphys said was true. Sans already knew that, but having confirmation is another thing.

“you remember how a long time ago, you told me about this flower that was telling you all sorts of thing? flattery, advice, predictions?” Papyrus nods, letting Sans continue, “call me crazy, but i think that flower… i don’t think it’s a normal flower. i don’t think it’s safe.”

Papyrus furrows his bone-brows, looking to the side, “IS THAT SO…? YOU KNOW, IT HAS BEEN A LONG WHILE SINCE I’VE SEEN THAT FLOWER. BUT ARE YOU SURE IT’S RELATED?”

“yeah, no doubt. the reason why [y/n] moved in with us in the first place was because of a flower that tried killing her.”

“AH, REALLY? I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A MEAN MONSTER, BUT YOU MEAN TO SAY THEY’RE ONE IN THE SAME?”

“i think so. that’s kinda why i don’t like letting her wander off by herself. i’m just worried, you know? and knowing how undyne is… she’s our great pal, but if [y/n] tried defending herself against a monster, it’s [y/n] who will be punished instead.”

“I DON’T WANT TO ADMIT IT, BUT YOU ARE RIGHT. UNDYNE’S OPINIONS ON HUMANS IS VERY… MURDERY.”

“exactly. for her sake, we gotta keep a sharper eye out.” Sans chuckles, “i know she’ll get annoyed with me for coddling or protecting her too much, but you understand my feelings, right papyrus?”

“OF COURSE, I DO. SHE IS IMPORTANT TO US BOTH. HUMANS CAN BE SO SQUISHY AND FRAGILE, WE MUST DO WHAT WE CAN!”

“yeah, exactly!”

“HOWEVER, THERE IS LITTLE WE CAN DO WHILE SITTING ON OUR BUTTS!” Papyrus jumps up to his feet, his cape billowing in the non-existent wind. “LET US DO OUR SHOPPING, AND AFTERWARD, PERHAPS WE CAN COME UP WITH A SORT OF SCHEDULE TO BEGIN SCOUTING FOR THAT EVIL FLOWER.”

“pfft, sounds good,” Sans’ eyes soften around the corners, “man, you really are the coolest there is.”

“NYEH-HEH HEH! AS IF I DON’T ALREADY KNOW. COME NOW, BEFORE YOU GET ANY LAZIER.”

“low blow, man. low blow.”

“SANS, YOU’RE LITERALLY SINKING INTO THE COUCH CUSHIONS AS WE SPEAK.”

ok its been a day so im ready to put my thoughts down, in no particular order, and definitely an incomplete list. below the cut for length and spoilers

jeremey backstory reveal, I'm :(((

while difficult obviously, i appreciate the way nora has handled homophobia in this book, in a way that balances having a safe place in the trojans with the homophobia of jeremy's family - i dont feel like i can explain it well, it just seems like she captures the homophobia of the time period well, especially in particular kinds of political circles, without it being miserable to read and a hopeless cesspit of homophobia idk

speaking of """time period""" (quotes because treating books set in the early 2000s as historical fiction feels wrong although at this point is accurate) the offhand reference to the politics surrounding the iraq war did untold levels of psychic damage to me

a lot of this comes from that while not a political family like jeremy's, i was growing up at the same time with a family that would have very much politically aligned with them and so it hits close to home

and i'm begging, jeremy needs to figure out in the third book that he deserves the same kind of future he wants for jean and all his friends - one where he is happy with the life he chooses!!!

also let him change his last name since he has rejected wilshire and he wants to let go of knox (i know someone who he could share a last name with too ;) )

after what feels like lots of fandom speculation, i loved that it was just kevin and andrew who came to california for the interview (ok i actually hate that andrew ever has to set foot in california again but narratively i appreciate what it says about his and kevin's relationship that andrew does it), AND the reveal that neil had not told either of them he'd been to see jean - i saw lots of posts/fanfic around neil going back to south carolina and talking to andrew about the grayson stuff and while i understand the interest in exploring that and i dont mean judgment towards that i just love that neil treats that as wholly jean's business and he is not going to be telling his secrets to anyone, including andrew

xavier explaining being trans to jean and jean is just immediately chill about it, in the most predictably jean way possible and its so 🥹🥹

spokane mention jumpscare

happy old gay couple!!!! yes they have to hide it behind the "we're just two bachelors chilling together" but they're gay!! and happy!! and together!! anyway i just don't think there can ever be enough representation for this kind of story and im always happy for stories with queer elders like this!!

in general rhemann's characterization in this book !! i love him your honor. i also love, again after ages of fandom speculation on it, that the one to go to violence for jean is rhemann, but not by breaking the rules to take a red card, but truly in a moment of physical defense of jean but that even STILL nora establishes that this does not make jean feel safe with rhemann, that he can physically stop zane scares him, even if when jean talks with adi he acknowledges he mentally knows rhemann wouldnt hurt him, he still feels scared (i feel like this mirrors neil/wymack's dynamic but its different, but that would be a whole other discussion)

laila and cat. cat and laila. i feel like we got so many insights into them in this book and yet i need MORE. the laila and jeremey family dynamics at play !! cat and jean as biker buddies !! also them at every possible opportunity being like "no jean really, please leave us in the house alone, we have some things to do. together."

the house... their home... im crying for them. while theres obviously the big things, i feel like the mentions of so many of the smaller sentimental things were like stabs in the heart - their photos from their dates, cat's quilts from her grandmother, jeremy's nan's movie collection, jean's first new postcard from kevin, and of course, barkbark :(

trying to rebuild their cozy space, and jean finding a painting in the store, and THAT being what spurs laila and cat into action, and while it's very much in a way of getting things that are "good enough" for now, rather than beloved pieces, i think its so so huge that their new place is something they are so actively building WITH jean

i 100% do not trust those fugly fbi agents though, im still suspicious of the new place

jean's eating disorder issues but him always trusting cat!!! and cat telling him to trust himself!!

hi do you want to talk abt isaac.

basically i'm writing a cbs ghosts fic with a focus on some original characters but with a lot of nisaac and plenty of the entire cast in general

it'll have a lot of isaac's pov as well, with his thoughts about two people who can be openly queer in the modern era

but. since ive only watched like,, probably less than half of the show. i thought talking to someone else abt it could help me characterise everyone?? i also just want to talk abt it bc it's kind of a fixation right now haha

let me list out some timelines pre-death first :3

isaac's marriage to beatrice: before or during 1773 the american revolutionary war: 1775-1783 nigel's death: 1776 isaac's death: 1777

so since the start of season 1, despite isaac's efforts we could all still see the fact he does not find women attractive (he literally called his wife, beatrice a handsome woman) so we're thinking bad comphet for our guy here.

(this only applies pre-nisaac) there are five male ghosts of the main cast, so when they all collectively agree that one girl is attractive (maybe not pete), isaac naturally plays along with it, but. plays along badly. everyone could tell that he did not find that girl attractive

as during nisaac, he is still obviously hesitant to be open because he had never been in a relationship with another man. a homosexual relationship. but not only is he hesitant, he is scared.

why is he scared? take a guess of what punishment you'd get for being gay in the 1770s (especially 1776).

the death penalty.

and we all know our guy isaac likes to talk about himself, he was so heavily disappointed to see that all he was in history was a footnote, and how he was jealous that his rival, hamilton, got a whole MUSICAL made about him (isaac loves musical theatre so thats twice the angy) so it's reasonable for him to be scared of death.

but hes already dead, why still be scared?

i actually dont know why but it's probably muscle memory for isaac to pretend. maybe he only found out that queerness was legalized/modernized through sam, not even through the recently dead ones. gotta hand it to him though i cant keep up a facade for more than a century XD

anyway, him being hesitant isn't the only problem, it's also the way he handles his relationship with nigel. his only other serious relationship was with a woman he wasn't even romantically interested in, so he has no healthy base to rely his current relationship with. also, his god-forsaken terrible communication skills, bros been pretending so much that even his personal feelings should be hidden 😭🙏 who hurt u man?

honestly his poo communication skills can still be linked back to his marriage with beatrice. maybe he had no problem with her, therefore no feelings were required to be shared, and he didn't have the need to communicate. but with nigel is a whole different situation.

oh yeah speaking of nigel, like isaac he doesn't have a healthy basis for a relationship. in this case, he previously was in a homosexual relationship, but it was only a sexual (?) one (with jenkins, but idk about the sexual part so jenkins fans back me up 🙏🙏).

we do see in the series that isaac is taking baby steps in the relationship, as opposed to nigel who rushes the starting-to-adjust stage, because this isn't his first gay relationship (whos gonna tell him) which then results to isaac having certain feelings about it, which then results to isaac not communicating as to pretend he can manage their relationship.

one thing about isaac's "certain feelings", it's usually about little things not even serious stuff. he had gone on many respites (temporary break up) with nigel because of their political beliefs (TGE WAR FUCKING ENDED GET OVER IT), hobbies, and personal likes. instead of adjusting to each other, they still choose to follow what they want instead of each other's wishes.

so, TLDR; nigel and isaac, despite having been in previous relationships, are doodoo at expressing themselves and adjusting to one another. (boo)

Who wantss to help me come up with a ship name for mudshock+geode because. I have many (sort of uncoordinated) DR mudshock+geo thoughts if yall want em. Spoilers ahead btw

Vivid scene in my mind that’s making me wish I could write: Nya reassuring Cole she is not upset that he has fallen for someone new since the merge. Bc he may have this fear that she and Jay will just think that this means he moved on or forgot about them or sth. But Nya makes sure he knows she trusts him and knows he still loves her n Jay.

And also her telling Cole that like… her only issue with Geo is that she doesn’t know him. But she can get to know him. And in fact she wants to, because she feels that if Cole can love someone and vouch for someone, then surely they’re good. And yeah. Geo is so so good..

You cannot tell me Cole didn’t talk abt his husband and wife nonstop to Geo n Bonzle n the finders in the land of lost things. bc they are his World. And of course the rest of the ninja+buddies. And it’s partially one of the things that has Geo falling for him because ohghhhh that’s a man who loves and protects so strongly so brightly so fiercely, this is someone so steady and nurturing.

I also just think Nya would like Geo. They would be buddies i think. Dr please let them interact I’m begging… they can share a spouse because I said so

Geo being a bit… intimidated? By Nya at first? If that makes sense? Like. He is secretly afraid she’s like jealous or sees him as in her way or fears he’s somehow keeping Cole from her. They’re both barely holding it together but I think Nya less so/worse because she’s had her brother taken from her and things are sorta compounding. Obviously Kai mattered to Cole as well but like dude Kai n Nya are like dipper and mabel levels of tight so it’s hitting her noticeably and. Cole is doing his best to comfort n ease her mind or distract, bc he likes to be people’s shoulder to lean on, but he’s falling apart at the seams himself. At which point I see Geo feeling rather helpless and like he can’t help them. He tries though.

Hey I love your takes on ofmd, it's so clear that you really understand the value and nuance of a thriving queer community and the joy in celebrating how vibrant that community is and how far we've come as a community and a society that we can have things like that. (If only for two seasons, fuck you MAX) And this is no way an attack on you, but when I saw your post about how I wish we could remember Nazis are bad right after you re blogged a gifset of Madeline from iwtv, I was actually really upset. I was wondering if you noticed that Madeline's whole thing is she sleeps with a Nazi, for no real reason, and the narrative of the show portrays this as a good thing. It felt like some very subtle pro-nazi propaganda. Remember that saying about "if you have one Nazi and nine regular people at a table you have ten Nazis?" And as this whole thing isn't in the books and was added for the show, It kinda got me wondering WHY. The narrative the showrunner (a person fond of disparaging trigger warnings) seems to be selling is "young boys who fall into the alt right and begin perpetuating neonazi values aren't REALLY Nazis, they're scared boys, and their girlfriends who of course don't AGREE with them aren't bad either", sort of a "forgive your alt right boyfriends and the people complicit with them" message. It was just very disgusting to see a character who collaborated with Nazis (and honestly reflected Nazi ableist values in the way she talked about her sister) portrayed as a good guy. Definitely one of those "hey didn't we used to think Nazis were bad?" Moments. I don't know if you read the book but the thematic update from "A community of hurt people who aren't allowed back in society occasionally hurt eachother but the COMMUNITY is still important" to "This is a community of monsters doing monstrous things" coming at the same time as making a lot of them brown and EXPLICITLY queer just seems .... suspicious. Anyway, I just wanted to point it out because your analysis on ofmd is usually so good, and clearly you're anti-nazi, and I feel like a lot of people didn't see what I saw because it's easy to get distracted by the sexy fun gay vampires and miss the unfortunately conservative implications that the showrunner keeps slipping into this narrative, the worst of which is, to me, the whole-ass Nazi!

hey. so to start off, this is an excellent question and i'm much more of a casual viewer of the show so please take this with a grain of salt (i have not read the books and im not sure when i'll have the time to do so).

i believe Madeleine sleeping with the german soldier was for "cigarettes and food" and they included that particular bit in the show especially to tell us that she's a survivor. she made decisions during the war that she felt were right for her and we may not agree with them (or wholly condemn them but those are the decisions she made), especially after her neighbors starved to death and died in front of her eyes. they also showed the public flagellation and shaving of the head scenes (which i believe were historically accurate?) and at no point does she think of herself as having been dealt an unjust punishment in that regard. what the writers wanted to contrast this with was that after everything - she survived, that's what draws claudia to her and for us - the viewer - shows that there are horrors and horrific things all these people have done and madeleine is no stranger to being morally fucked up like the vampires.

it also invites the question - once people get deradicalised, don't they deserve to get reintegrated into society? for her neighbours, they saw the graffiti painted on her shop window and most likely felt a keen sense of betrayal from her and their reactions to turning a blind eye again - morally weird tho it is - makes sense - did she deserve to be sexually assaulted as recompense for her past crimes? or had she suffered enough?

from a future vampire perspective, madeleine's history made her the perfect candidate to be a mostly successful vampire because she has made bad bad decisions in her life (no matter how/how not sympathetic) and she would've had her entire life to contemplate the effect of her actions. so for me - the show runner including these bits of backstory adds further grayness to an already very grey show regarding all the characters and it's a very good commentary on all types of people in this universe and the kind of stories they have.

madeleine betrayed her community for food or to just stave away loneliness but she also brought one of our lead and most suffering characters (claudia god i love her) back to life, showed her love and kindness as much as she deserves - stood by her till the end.

i would def like to see more characters like her.

- works for the Irish sanctuary

- he's worked in a few different departments, his favourite and current job is in the archives. he mostly does filing which he's perfectly fine with.

- worked in the Dublin sanctuary before the Incident

- took some significant time off for the first time in a long time after that. when he came back, the sanctuary was up and running in roarhaven

- gay, asexual, and absolutely DELIGHTED when Erskine Ravel got the Grand Mage position

- (less excited about it come the war of the sanctuarys)

- oh and he's an elemental

- and autistic about diving

- looks like a mess, actually doing alright most of the time

Evelyn Hare (she/her)

- 98 years old (Born September 23rd, 1926)

- Scottish, moved to Ireland around the time Guild became Grand Mage

- started working for the Irish sanctuary about 6 months before Mortal Coil

- an only child who always wanted siblings

- she substituted the lack of siblings with pets.

- she currently has a bearded dragon called Geremy (Big G)

- has always done administrative work in the sanctuary (never as THE administrator though)

- currently does this with/for the city guard

- nobody has more beef with the city guard than Evelyn Hare

- was Suffering while creed was in charge

- has some Opinions about the Arbiters

- low-key in love with Cerise, will be devastated if she turns out a traitor (me too girl)

- has an impressively large collection of coins

- She's an adept and can make herself invisible

- she chose that less because she wanted it, and more as a reflection of how she felt when she had her surge

- they're best friends

- they have weekly trash TV nights and alternate who's hosting every week

- Trash TV night also always involves ordering food because Evelyn hates cooking and Pike is simply Not Very Good at it (great baker though)

- they try and order from a different place every week but there's only so many places in roarhaven (they've gone to damn near all of them)

- If something were to happen to Evelyn, Pike gets custody of Big G - something he does not want and is genuinely afraid will come to pass

- Its because Pike's low-key intimidated by Geremy. Not lizards or reptiles, Geremy specifically.

- This entertains Evelyn greatly

- Despite their ages, neither one of them can drive. This is exactly as inconvenient as you think it would be.

- The signal in the archives is criminally bad so every time there's something Pike wants to watch while he works, he takes his very sensitive documents and takes over Evelyns office.

- He practically lives there when the Olympics are on.

- they met when Evelyn tripped and spilled (iced) coffee all over Pike first thing in the morning and he just looked at her like 😐

- (she told him to have some self respect and be at least a little mad at her)

- (he told her it's better her coffee than his)

- In apology, she brought him lunch the next day. And then he brought her lunch and that kinda just snowballed to where they are now

So. Flatland. It's a good book, and an amazing f*cking movie. I love this goddamned movie so much bro. It's not even like a "good" good movie I just really like it for no reason.

Some lore I have with this book, since I want to talk about it.

I watched this movie the first time when I was in 6th grade. It scared me so bad that I had nightmares about it for a week. I hated the style of the 2D world and was so scared about the amount of murder that I psychologically blocked it all out.

Now in the present (as an adult in college), my friend brought up the movie for us to watch during a movie night. I was way more excited to watch it than I thought I would be (cuz of my previous encounter with it and wanting to "reclaim" the movie), but we only got 4 minutes in before my other friends got bored and decided to watch something else. I sorta dropped it for a bit after that before @/goosesartblog posted their ONE - Flatland crossover and 10000 emotions flew over me. I then proceeded to watch it with my siblings, who also did not care about the movie.

Now, it has become a lifestyle of watching it every single day. Every. Single. Day. It's bad. I can't stop.

And it's on YouTube for free.

AND the book is on YouTube as an audiobook AND the actual PDF book is just there to read.

Anyways, actual relevant doodles. These characters are A. Sphere (the objectively best character idgaf) and Carlton Cube(?). I saw something about them being John-locked and thought it was really funny. Also, I saw a meme about the two getting Starbucks or smth during the week I lingered, so here lol.

Some more doodles of concept stuff. Actual A. Square art and some style testing, Hex doodle, and more A. Sphere bc I love him so much. His ass is gay idk if you think I'm wrong just look at him.

Silly little idea I had about if Spherious *(the sphere from the other Flatland movie) and A. Sphere were in the same universe. It's unlikely, but I think Spherious would be the Messiah of 2000 and A. Sphere is the Messiah of 3000. They met at some point where their lives overlapped, and Spherious tried to give A. Sphere advice, to which he was completely ignored. A. Sphere's a bratty teen here and Spherious is a grandpa. They treat their apostles very differently.

Another silly idea I had was that when A. Sphere "died", he was actually picked up by a 4D being named A. Tesseract. He stays with her until the war is over in his dimension, and he is able to see A. Square one last time during his hallucination (that's why A. Sphere's innards are seen). Also also, A. Sphere learns how to treat people better b/c of A. Tesseract and the 4th dimensions' more liberal views on expression and gender. Development for the stupid shiny solid.

Solangelo: Taylor’s Version

When Kayla comes into the Apollo cabin, all it means is trouble, or Taylor Swift. Today it was Taylor Swift. 

“Hey guys!” She says with a grin.

“Kayla. Turn the Taylor Swift off. Please?” Will pleads. He actually used to be a swiftie, until Kayla discovered her, and now he’s listened to her way too many times. 

“I found a song that, number 1, you haven’t heard before-“

“That’s a surprise,” Nico cuts in, “I think I’ve heard about every Taylor Swift song there is.”

Kayla glares at him before carrying on.

“And number 2, it reminds me so much of you two!”

“Oh no, am I really sure I want to hear it?” Will questions.

“Yes. And you will. Come on Will, please?”

“Oh my gods, I can’t believe I’m saying this but fine.”

The song starts playing, and Nico snuggles into Will as they try to get comfy, and get through the next -probably torturous- 4 minutes and 27 seconds.

The first lyric plays, and Nico is getting flashbacks to the time that he actually did walk into a dark room, meant just for him. It’s not the best memory, to be honest, but that hotel allowed him to meet Will, otherwise he would still be back there, and not allowed to even think about being… gay. And, of course, he still had Bianca. 

The next lyric startles Will, cause it really sounds like this song was made for them. Time did move too fast… and he does play it back… all the time. Buttons on a coat… buttons on Lee’s coat, after he made Will come out for the campfire.

No proof, not much, Nico thought Will hated him before he shouted at him for not visiting him in the infirmary, and then Nico really did start to explore his feelings.

Coffee at midnight, because Will had to stay awake for the night shift, and Nico couldn’t sleep because of nightmares anyway. 

The light reflects the chain on your neck, the one that Will gave…him. Just for him. So Nico gave him his ring.

He said “Look up at the stars” the first time they sat together at the campfire. Nico shoulder tingled after that one touch, and his heart felt like it was fluttering.

Will paused the music.

“Can you hear it in the silence?” He questions.

Kayla is quick to answer: “Oh my gods, yes. I mean, the amount of time it took you two to get together said enough in the silence,”

She rolls her eyes, and reaches to unpause the music.

The burnt toast was only because Will was tired, and Nico had made him eat at least something.

Will’s shirt was one of his most prized possessions, he wore whenever he felt overwhelmed. And he did keep his word, it was one of the things that got Nico to trust him.

Will couldn’t believe this song. His ghosts, his fears, his sorrows did seem to leave when Nico was around, and believe it or not, whether Nico believed it or not, that was why Will called him ‘sunshine’

One step, not much, but it said enough

They kissed, they fought, and they talked. Actually, most of their relationship was them talking things out with each other, and each’s mental health had improved greatly.

Midnight, he turned around in the infirmary where Nico was sitting, and was surprised to see him watching Will move around the infirmary. A strange look overcame his face, he paused, then said: “You’re my best friend.” And  Will knew, he knew what it was.

He is in love.

“You two are dancing in a snowglobe ‘round and ‘round”

“And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars

“And how you’ve spent your whole life trying to put it into words”
