‘wait, you can’t please everybody’
sum: after a messy breakup you’re undeniably heartbroken and toby wants to make you feel better
tw: unintentionally a little angsty but mostly fluff
a/n: my dearest anon, i am so sorry i just now saw your request. i hope this is not too late and hopefully helps you navigate through your journey and makes you feel a little better. i went through a messy breakup around christmas as well and feel like this resonates with me as well. i’m not the best at writing fluff but i tried, i hope you enjoy and are doing well <3
“I-I found you!”
You could hear that Toby was excited, even as your back was turned to him. You had been curled up in a ball for the past hour, hiding in the attic of the mansion. Dust covered boxes were scattered around the room, your small form perched beside the oval window. You didn’t say anything, unable to match Toby’s typical perky energy. Your knees were tucked to your chest, your gaze settled on the grass outside.
Toby frowned slightly at your lack of a response, the young proxy walking around one of the boxes. “Hey, y-you good?” He asked unsurely. Toby wasn’t good at handling negative emotions, or so he thought. The moonlight gave him a good look at your face, which made his eyes go wide. Bags hung under your eyes, your lips chapped so much they were becoming cracked. Your eyes were undeniably puffy, which he suspected to be from hours of crying. He approached you quickly, squatting down in front of you. He shoved his orange goggles onto his head, licking his own dry lips.
“T-Talk to m-me, what’s wrong?”
The concern lacing Toby’s words was almost enough to send you over the edge again. You inhaled, trying to refrain from more salty tears from escaping your waterline.
“We didn’t workout.”
Your words hung heavy in the air, your ex boyfriend’s name on the tip of your tongue. It felt odd to think about, nevertheless say out loud. Toby’s brain instantly clicked, his bandaged hand reaching out to touch yours. “That’s a g-good thing though r-right? Wasn’t he an asshole towards t-the end anyways?” He asked unsurely. Your eyes were sharp as you met his puppy dog gaze, your flicker of anger immediately diminishing. Instead you took a deep breath, realizing how irrational your scattered emotions were.
In through your nose, out through your mouth.
“It’s not that simple. You don’t know, how horrid the actual breakup was. It was like, the shell of the person I used to know. The man I used to know vanished right before my eyes and got replaced with whatever the fuck he is now,” You rambled. You could feel yourself getting worked up, Toby’s eyes softening as he looked up at you. “I spent so much time, so much time with him and now it’s wasted. Gone. Like it meant nothing at all to him, but it meant everything to me,” You continued. Tears flooded your waterline with ease, painful flashes of memories appearing in your mind. You bit your bottom lip, attempting to stop the tears from flowing. “And I don’t know how i’m supposed to do this. How i’m supposed to waltz around like I know what i’m doing. He was my rock and now he’s gone. It’s like he was never here and I feel like i’m going insane,” You whimpered lowly, unable to stop the tears from free falling.
Toby was never good with dealing with heavy human emotions. Most of the time the responsibility of handling them was handled by someone else in the mansion. But you were the apple of his eye, one his favorite people to walk the planet. So instead he tuned into his instincts, hoping that what he was about to do was even semi socially appropriate. He rose to his feet, sitting across from you on the bench built into the large window. Stretching his long arms outwards he wrapped them around you, pulling you against him abruptly. You tensed for a moment, feeling Toby hold you so close. It wasn’t until your brain registered his warmth and earthy scent that you finally allowed yourself to crumble.
You felt like your lungs were going to collapse, your breath shallow as you nuzzled your face into his chest. Your chest felt tight, your sobs muffled as you cried into his signature jacket. Your soft sounds only made him hold you tighter, the brunette careful to not squeeze you too hard. Toby swallowed, bringing his slender fingers to your hair. Unsurely, he began to stroke it, hoping it would bring you some sort of ease. He continued these actions until you had no tears left to cry, your wheezing now simmering down to deep breaths. “I’m s-sorry I don’t h-have the inhaler,” Toby apologized, regretting leaving it with Tim. (It was in fact Tim’s inhaler).
His sudden outburst made you chuckle, even as a few more stray tears slid down your cheeks. You pulled back a few inches, just enough for Toby to see your face. He didn’t like seeing you like this, so hurt. Without thinking he raised his hand, fingertips grazing your cheek as he tucked some stray hairs behind your ear. “F-Fuck him, you’re the important one, y-you’re the one,” Toby said as confidently as he could muster. You knew his words meant well, even if they didn’t come out the way he meant for them to. He used the pad of his thumb to swipe away the few remaining tears, cupping your cheeks. Your eyes fluttered closed, your face relaxing in the palms of his hands.
Social constructs were a mystery to Toby, truthfully. But he knew in this moment to do what he thought was best. He leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. He ignored any emotion he felt towards the gesture, his attention completely centralized on you. “Y-You know i’m not the b-b-best with words, but I p-promise everything’s gonna be okay,” He mumbled, his chocolate eyes filled with worry as he tried to catch your gaze. Your glassy eyes eventually met his, your bottom lip trembling as you confessed, “He’s the one who left me, Toby.”
You might as well have shot him dead then and there. Toby couldn’t feel pain, due to a list of neurological disorders he couldn’t bother to remember. But he knew for a fact he felt a pang of despair mixed with anger thud in his chest. “P-Piece of shit,” He grumbled, his hands still cupping your cheeks. The animalistic side of Toby wanted to find him, to make him hurt for causing you so much pain. But the soft look in your eyes, the way you were borderline clinging to him, made those thoughts evaporate. You came first. You needed him. You needed Toby more than you needed anyone. Swallowing thickly Toby tilted your head upwards, forcing you to look at him.
“You’re b-better off without him, alright? I never liked him anyways,” Toby started. Maybe this wasn’t the correct way to comfort someone, maybe he should try a different route instead of spewing insults. He dug into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small joint. “It’s n-not much but, we can s-smoke and talk about it,” He offered. This made a sad smile creep up your lips, your hands moving to open the window. “I think i’d like that Toby,” You agreed. You both readjusted in your seats, turning to face the window. Toby admired the moon as you took the joint between your lips, sparking the lighter. Again, social constructs were foreign to him. But as he threw his arm around your shoulders and pulled you closer, he got the sense he made the right decision.

MUSIC FOR A SUSHI RESTAURANT
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
the upbeat music bumped loudly in the backyard of the house. the air was humid, filled with the smell of alcohol and the sounds of people chatting amongst themselves.
quinn stared at you from across the lawn, in a way that others would see as possibly a little weird, but he paid no mind to it. he was nursing the same beer he’d had for the past hour or so. he was only slowly taking sips of it, opting to observe the view across from him.
you were laughing at something jack said, your arm clutching your stomach to keep from completely doubling over. he thought you looked absolutely breathtaking, so he downed the rest of his beer and made his way over to you.
jack took notice to his brothers actions and smiled at you and mumbled something along the lines of leaving you two alone and then decided to walk away and go chat with luke, who was with some of his old friends.
quinn walked with a little pep in his step, excited to be in your presence, and the alcohol giving him some unforeseen courage. he didn’t know if it was the buzz from the alcohol he had previously consumed or what, but he felt a surge of confidence overcome him.
you looked his way with cheerful eyes as he approached you, anticipation building in your chest. a smile quickly overtook your face. it was hard not to smile when he looked like that. a black t-shirt that hugged his biceps perfectly, a casual pair of blue jeans that slid just slightly over the top of his white sneakers, tousled hair that had made it obvious he had been running his hand through it, and a light smirk that could uplift the worst of days.
yeah, if anyone were to ask you, he was perfect.
you leaned back on your elbows against the bar, awaiting the eldest of the brothers arrival. everything seemed to move in slow motion, the way he walked to you, the bustling crowd, even the music seemed to slow down when you looked at him. when he finally got to you, he turned around like he was inspecting the crowd, but in all reality you knew he wasn’t. you knew he didn’t care about the crowd or the people who were standing in it.
“big crowd, huh?” he questioned teasingly. you hummed a sound of agreement as you nodded and turned to take a sip of your drink that made your nose scrunch, some nasty concoction of alcoholic drinks that didn’t really pique your interest, but to have any courage to at least attempt to flirt with the man you’d been crushing on for what feels like forever, you’d need something strong in your system to do so.
“i didn’t think parties were really your thing,” you said to him after a beat of silence. quinn shrugged slightly, leaning in to hear you better over the music. the slight gesture made your heart stop and then speed up. “they aren’t,” he started. “but i really had nothing better to do tonight anyways.” you nodded stiffly in reply, not really being sure what to say to that.
“wanna leave with me? i’m kinda bored of this place anyways.” quinn offered, to which you agreed with quickly. you downed the rest of your drink and left the cup for someone else to pick up. quinn grabbed your hand to lead you through the crowd. you suddenly took notice of how clammy your hands felt, hoping he would just brush it off on the hot, seemingly rising temperature of the crowded yard. he led you to the gate and opened it with his unoccupied hand, still holding yours tightly in his other.
once you were out, he led you to his car, and opened the door for you, and only then did he drop your hand from his own. the gesture made you blush, and you hoped that the dark hid it. based on quinn’s lack of reaction to it, you assumed that luck was on your side. he closed the car door and jogged over to the driver side. you took the few seconds alone to take a deep breath and collect your thoughts.
he got into the car and started it. the radio blared out some random song he had been listening to before. he quickly moved to turn it down, his cheeks becoming a dusty pink under the silvery moonlight. you let out a laugh, quickly covering your mouth with the back of your hand as he closed his mouth and tried not to laugh, but ultimately failing as a light chuckle came out. “sorry about that..” he said after brief moment. “it’s alright, its happens.” you replied to him.
he pulled out of the driveway and started down the road, seemingly to back to the house, but instead took a last minute turn towards the park that wasn’t too far away.
you turned to him, confusion etched across your face. he only glanced over at you briefly, a smirk adorning his face as he turned and continued to look forward at the road ahead.
he pulled into the gravelly parking lot and turns the car off before turning to you. “let’s go for a walk?” he said softly with a look of innocence, like he totally didn’t just trick you into thinking the night was over. you didn’t reply, but instead smiled lightly and opened your door and climbed out and slammed the door harder than intended. you flinched at the sound, but quinn didn’t mind.
the air is calm now, only a gentle breeze stirring about. the night is quiet and peaceful, with the exception of an occasional rustle of leaves and crickets chirping away without a care in the world. the moonlight casts a gentle glow over the top of the lifeless trees.
quinn rounded the car after he’s gotten out and walked over to you, jerking his head towards the path. he starts walking slightly ahead of you, and you have to walk a little faster than you normally would to keep up with him.
when you reach him, he slows his pace a little in acknowledgment. a smile still rests on his face, only his demeanor seems a little more nervous than usual. quinn is usually a relaxed guy, with the exception of a haunted look that resides in his eyes that has never seemed to fade away, which is why the sudden shift felt weird to you.
after a few more seconds of walking, your hands brushed the accidentally. you took notice of the way that quinn slightly tensed out the corner of your eye, but you couldn’t say much either, cause you know that you had too.
quinn broke the silence first. “you know, there’s something i’ve been meaning to tell you,” he started as he stopped slowly on the path and turned toward you. you mirrored his stance automatically as your heart-rate began to rise. quinn’s eyes looked anywhere but at yours, to the trees behind you, from the gravel that had been crunched beneath your feet previously, and down to his shoes. quiet literally anywhere but in your direction.
“are you like..okay?” you chuckled lightly in an attempt to diffuse some of the tension. he huffed out a laugh, though it sounded more like a sigh than a laugh. “i’m fine, yeah, but i’m just trying to find the right words.”
your eyebrows rose in understanding as your posture improved slightly. you waited unpatiently for a moment before he began to speak again.
“i think.. no, i know i like you. and not just in a friend way, but i care for you in more of a friend way,” he grabbed your hand and clutched it in his own, and you let him. “you don’t have to say anything, but i just wanted to let you know before i lost the nerve. i’m not sure when i would’ve ever done this..” he trailed off.
for just a second, everything stilled. the crickets seemed to stop chirping and the wind even seemed to stop in time. you stared at him with big, mooney eyes before a smile overtook your face and before he knew it, you were jumping up to hug him. he quickly reciprocated the hug and squeezed lightly. “of course i like you back, silly.” you mumbled as you pulled back just enough to see his face, yours still covered in a smile that looks like it could fall off of your face at any moment.
relief washed over him, and you could feel the tension leave his body as he relaxed more in your grasp. “good,” was all he said before he broke the silence again. “can i.. can i kiss you then?” you didn’t verbally answer, but instead you leaned in and he met you half way.
your lips met softly, a light peck at first, but the both of you couldn’t get enough. you could faintly taste the beer on his lips from earlier. it was a slow, tender kiss that lacked nothing but built up tension. your hands threaded into his hair as his winded around your waist.
you both pulled away breathless, your breathing uneven as you stared into each others eyes and giggled lightly. the silence was heavy, yet knowing as you pulled back slowly and threaded your hand with his. words didn’t need to be exchanged as you walked back to the car together hand in hand.

American Dream

Logan is not fucking dead.
Sure his ‘death’ scene in Logan made for a perfect ending to a very very sad story. But that’s not how regenerative healing factors work.
You think I wanna be here in downtown North Dakota digging up the one and only Wolverine? No thank you. But the fate of my entire world is at stake.
He might not be living his best life right now but be sure as hell ain’t-
I gasped and squealed in excitement as my shovel hit something hard.
Dead.
Moving the rumble around I noticed something shiny like metal. Adamantium. It was his goddamn skeleton.
“Yes..yes of course…” I sighed before grabbing my shovel and yelling out in anger. Smashing the wooden makeshift X that marked his grave.
“FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!” Snapping the shovel in half over my knee.
“YOU SON OF A BITCH! MOTHERFUCKER UGHHH MY WORLD IS FUCKED!”
“Look, I’m not a man in science but you seem really passed away right now…but it’s good to see ya. I’ve gotta be honest, I’ve always wanted to ride with ya Log. Can you imagine the fun, the chaos?” I sighed once more, moving my hand from his metal kneecap to his jaw.
“Gday mate, nothing that’ll bring me back to life faster than a big bag of Marvel cash.” I impersonated, laying the Australian accent on thick.
“Hoo Hoo! Me too Hugh…hah but no no no no. You had be all noble and die forreal. GODAMMIT! I could really use your help right now.” I leaned forward rubbing my head in dismay before hearing the lovely sound of TVA soldiers behind me.
“Wade Wilson. You are under arrest by the Time Variance Authority for-”
“Ugh death by day player..”
“Drop you weapons and come out peacefully!”
“I’m not gonna give you my weapons..but I promise not to use them!” I groaned before repositioning myself to look up.
“There are 206 bones in the human body, 207 if I’m watching Gossip Girl. Ugh let’s go, maximum effort.” I high-fived Logan before grabbing him and leaping out from behind the snowy logs.
“Okay peanut, looks like we’re getting that team up after all.”
After unfortunately having to slaughter the army Paradox obviously sent after me, I decided to start my plan b mission.
Find Y/n Y/L/N. The reason why all of this started in the first place.
You see, Y/n and Logan are special, so special that apparently them dying means my whole timeline has to fucking end.
So Y/n decided that instead of letting a few hundred thousand people perish, she sacrificed her self by riding one of Iron Man’s nukes into space to save New York from some huge alien army trying to take over the word.
I know right? Stupidest fucking thing I ever heard.
Now this obviously took a toll on wolvy here, they were sort of..a thing?
By “thing” I mean married for 12 and a half years but who the hell is counting? It’s not like anyone knew anyway, the X-men and Avengers didn’t exactly get along publicly. Once the “cure” for the mutant gene got released, things got a little political between the two bands of heros.
But I digress! That’s another story for another chapter.
I pulled out the fancy remote I snagged from one of the soldiers and scrolled through.
Earth 10005- current timeline
Earth 58126
Earth 616- select timeline
“This one looks promising.” I clicked the button to select it and a large orange door appeared before me.
I stepped through it into a bar. I didn’t see Y/n anywhere but I did happen to recognize a familiar pair of hair tufts. Perfect!
“Logan! I’m gonna need you to come with me.”
He slowly turned to face me. “Who’s asking?” He slipped off the bar stool to reveal…a midget?
I gasped. “Well who’s this little ankle bitter. Did you stick the landing little guy? Yes you did, comic accurate short king!” I cooed, leaning down to his eye level.
He frowned, looking behind me. Suddenly a hand grabbed my shoulder and turned me around with a shocking about of strength.
There stood Y/n, surprisingly standing eye to eye with me.
“Holy fuck.. you are all legs!”
“Are we gonna have a problem?”
“Oh no ma’am! Wouldn’t dream of it. But we might if you and little Logan here don’t come with me back to my timeline.”
She frowned before crossing her arms over her chest.
“You were just leaving”
“Uh no..I don’t think so because-”
She suddenly sent a powerful jab to my stomach, sending me flying across the bar.
Goddamn that super serum does wonders doesn’t it?
“Que the fucking montage.”
And that’s how Wade got here, on earth 982.
After getting his ass beat by multiple variations of You and Logan he finally decided to enter this timeline.
Walking through the orange door he stepped into what looked like an office room. It was big and sleek but what really caught his eye was the large shield hanging on the wall like a painting.
It looked like Captain America’s shield but a bit smaller. It was in a glass display case which he assumed was bulletproof.
The gold plaque below it spelt out ‘American Dream’
But before Wade could fangirl any longer the cocking of a gun caught his attention and he quickly turned around.
You were standing behind him with a pistol to his head.
“Y/n! Wait.. oh my god are you Capt-“ Wade gawked at your outfit. It was almost Identical to Steve Rodger’s suit. From the star on your chest to the red boots that adorned your feet. Even your helmet was identical, except for an open area in the back to let your long soft curls run down your back.
“No wade, I’m not Captain America”
“Omg you know me?!” Every other Y/n didn’t bother to learn who he was before sending him flying into a wall.
“Yes wade, this is your 5th time trying to audition for the team of course I know you…”
“But wait.. if you’re not Cap then where is he? Is he alive here?? And you’re an Avenger?”
You gave him a confused look.
“What do you mean, of course he’s alive. He just talked to you yesterday he told me he rejected you...what the hell are you doing here wilson?” You reached to pick up the phone on what wade assumed was your desk, possibly calling security.
“Woah Woah calm down! I’m just shocked by the preppy, all-American sweetheart look, in every other timeline you’re always some kind of ‘anti-hero’. Ugh you and Logan really are perfect for each other.”
Wade almost didn’t catch the quick falter in your stance at the mention of the Wolverine but ignored it.
“Anyways sweetpea, I didn’t come here to audition, I came here for you.”
Your eyebrows raised in amusement.
“I’m flattered wilson but-“
“No! No! Not like that! My universe is dying, and in order to save it I need to replace at least one of the anchor beings that died in to buy it some time. If I replace both.. I can probably keep my timeline alive for good. Please, you’re the only one that can help!”
“Help how?”
Wade sighed in annoyance, gosh why all the inquiries!
“See this is where it gets a bit flakey- and please just hear me the fuck out before you flip out and punch me! *Deep inhale* You have to come back with me to my timeline, meet up with Paradox and beg him to reconsider, maybe chill out there a little bit while it slows the dying process, and then come with me to replace the other anchor being and permanently save my world.” He spews out quickly before Y/n could interfere.
He was expecting you to instantly lash out, telling him it was insane of him to ask you to abandon your timeline to go live in his with his soon to be new best friend.
But you just stood there, an almost blank look on your face. It honestly scared him, before you finally gave him a confused glare.
“Wait.. so you’re not from this timeline?”
“Uhm no.. but I would really appreciate it if-“
“And you want me to go with you to your timeline to find your other.. anchor being. What the hell is that?”
“Oh! Ugh It’s kinda this thing where if someone really really important dies then your timeline just goes to shit. Ya know I’m pretty sure if I were dead my timeline would probably be gone by now but since they needed me or whatever I decided to stick around for a bit longer.” He flipped his imaginary hair before turning back to Y/n with a hand on his hip.
“So I’m dead in your universe?”
“Bingo! And I really need you to be undead in my universe by… yesterday so chop chop!” He exclaimed, looking down at his imaginary watch before pulling out some kind of remote.
“Wait! Who’s the other anchor being?”
“Ughhhh God, all these damn questions! It’s someone you know, a very very dear friend to us. Jimmy.”
You frowned. “Who?”
“Jimmy? James? The man made of metal? Any of this ringing a bell?”
Y/n stared at him in bewilderment silently.
“Oh for christ sakes James! James Howlett! The Wolverine. Yikes Y/n you need to keep up with the lore, you’ve been around since Wolverine Orgins you should know what’s was going on girl!”
“Logan?!”
“Yes! Now let’s go find that little honey badger before he fucks around and nobly sacrifices himself again in this timeline. You do have one in this world, correct? Cause it would be soo sooo much easier if you could just call him right up for me honeybun.”
“I haven’t talked to Logan in years, I don’t even know where he is, let alone if he has a phone number I can call.”
Wade recoiled at the first sentence.
“You haven’t talked to him in years?! What do you mean, aren’t you guys married?”
Y/n’s eyes almost bulged at the question.
“Married!? Hell no! We barely even dated.”
Wade was shocked and a little dissapointed. “Oh! I just thought since in every other timeline you’re both- well nevermind. No time for stories let’s go!”
“Now hold on Wade, I don’t know if I can just leave my timeline-”
And there it was..gosh you were always so fucking responsible.
“Fine, guess I’ll have to just find Logan myself and go find another you that’ll help me.”
He tapped a button on the weirdly futuristic remote and turned away slowly, about to step through an orange door before you stopped him.
"Wait!"
The merc turned around giddy, hopeful that you would come to your senses and join him.
"What happens when I leave my timeline?
Wouldn't that fuck everything up here too?"
Wade froze, he hadn't really thought about that part. Shit!
"Uhhh well as far as I know, as long as you're not dead your world should be fine. So uhhh you should be good." He said, trying to sound as convincing as he could.
You could sense he was a bit unsure of himself but you also realized how much he needed you help.
"Y'know what, I'm in wilson."

Do You Want to Go with the Strange Man, Buddy?
Divergence from chapter 13, where tía Pepa is forced to drop Christopher off at the 118 while Eddie is at the academy, because Abuela isn’t feeling well and she has to work. This leaves Buck with a surprise introduction to make to everyone.
On AO3.
Ships: Buddie (pre-slash)
Warnings: mentioned minor character death, mistaken child abduction
~~~
Buck had been working out on his own. It’s a slow shift – almost q-word, but he’s not saying it – so he actually took a decent shower after. He doesn’t know what it is about the shitty showers, but they’re homely to him.
Anyway, when he gets out and back into uniform, he checks his phone to see he’s missed a call from Pepa. She’s supposed to be dropping Chris off at Abuela’s house right about now, so he frowns and quickly calls her back.
“Oh, Buck, good. You’re on shift now, right?” she picks up.
“Yeah, I am. Is everything okay? Is Chris?” Buck asks worriedly.
“Christopher is fine,” Pepa tells him and his muscles unclench slightly. “We’re outside your work now, can you be there quick?”
“I can be there right now,” Buck says, starting to move towards the doors without a moment of hesitation. “And you’re sure everything’s alright?”
“It is, it is. Mama just can’t watch him today, she came down with a stomach bug,” Pepa explains.
At that point, Buck is at her car, quickly looking inside and waving over to Chris. However, he doesn’t immediately go over to him, because Pepa has gotten out of the car and closed to door behind her, a clear sign she wants to talk to him real quick, before Chris can hear.
Lowly, Pepa says: “Mama can’t watch him and I can’t take him to work right now. I can when I’m off, but not before. I tried calling Eddie, but he wouldn’t pick up. Is he safe here? Can you get off?”
Buck knows checking your phone at the academy has a high chance of getting yourself yelled at, so he gets why Eddie wouldn’t see the call. Mentally he makes a note to send Eddie a text about it all, before he assures her: “Of course I can take Chris. My Captain’s pretty chill, he’ll give me off or make me man behind or something. I’ll figure it out.”
“Gracias, gracias,” Pepa says, kissing his cheeks. “I have to go rush back before my lunch hour is over now.”
“Of course,” Buck blushes, still not entirely used to the warmth of this part of the Diaz family. He takes Chris’s bag from her, slinging it over his shoulder, before letting her get in the car, while he goes to get Chris.
Pepa has said her goodbye to him by the time he gets to his door, so he’s just focused on Chris when he opens the door. “Hey, buddy! Excited to hang out with me today?”
“Yeah,” Chris cheers.
“Good,” Buck smiles, unbuckling Chris from his seat and lifting him out of the car. He puts him on his hip while reaching in for the crutches, then the two of them wave goodbye to tía Pepa.
With her car out of the parking lot, Buck suddenly finds himself alone with Chris. At work. And it hits him that this is going to be a very hard thing to explain. Hell, he doesn’t even know how to begin, because how the fuck is he going to play this off?
It seems like frat boy Buck is dying today and he hopes they’re not going to be too weird about it in front of Chris. He’s never wanted his own issues to touch Chris. However, it’s also going to be heartbreaking to introduce him to everyone as his son, knowing that won’t last forever.
Subconsciously, he hugs Chris a little closer, before forcing cheer into his voice saying: “Well, I gotta introduce you to everyone then talk to my Captain for a bit, but then I can show you all the trucks and equipment. How does that sound?”
“I get to see the trucks?” Chris asks excitedly. With Buck sharing stories over dinner or breakfast on an almost daily basis, he’s gotten very enthralled with firefighters, so it’s dream come true.
Buck’s heart melts at the sight and decides that no matter how today goes, he’s going to make fucking sure Chris can see those trucks up close and personal. “Yeah, Superman, of course. Let’s go. Wanna be put down?”
Chris shakes his head. He has quickly realized that they first need to get through boring adult stuff before he can see the trucks and he wants to speed the whole process up. Which means he is perfectly fine where he is, getting to look around while papi does the walking for now. He’ll be independent when they get to the cool stuff.
So, Buck apprehensively makes his way up the stairs with Chris in his arms. He’s unsure what kind of reaction he should be bracing for when the finds the others hanging around the couch with their mugs, pausing when they see him.
For a moment, all of them just look at each other.
Then Hen cautiously speaks up: “Uh, Buckaroo, where- where did you get the kid? Did someone… Did he get lost?” she corrects herself, knowing Chris can hear her and not wanting to implant the idea that he was abandoned before they know more.
And Buck knows he should explain, but just going ‘no, this is my son’ feels weird when it’s not forever and this set up is just too funny. So he doesn’t explain and instead shrugs: “No, I just saw him while I was at work and took him.”
Everyone’s eyes get wide and they all freeze, as if they can’t believe that they’re hearing that and aren’t sure if he’s joking or not. They know Buck can’t lie, but since it’s technically true, it doesn’t read like a lie, which is hilarious to Buck right now.
He keeps a straight face as he turns to Chris and says: “Isn’t that right, Chris? I just took you off the streets.”
Chris – a little shit after his own heart and a better liar than his papi – just grins and nods: “Uh-huh, you did.”
Chimney must decide that he’s fucking with them, because he rolls his eyes: “Alright, sure. Was there anyone with him?”
“Yeah,” Buck says. “She wasn’t paying attention. I mean, I took this little guy here right out of her car and we waved at her when she left. Didn’t even blink. Probably didn’t care I did, did she?”
“That’s right,” Chris chimes in again.
At this point everyone is starting to get actually concerned. Buck is a little offended that they are, but he also gets it. Who knows if he snapped or something? A child abduction case should always be taken seriously. So, he should probably also stop now. Maybe a bad joke to make to begin with.
“Buck,” Bobby says, getting up slowly and holding out his hands as if calming a distressed patient. “I am asking you, if you can give the child to me. Okay?”
And look, he should just explain now, because this has gotten out of hand – story of his life, he supposes – but he can’t let this moment pass. It’s an educative moment, a cautionary tale if you will. So he turns to Chris on his hip and jostles him slightly, before quirking a brow and asking: “Do you want to go with the strange man, buddy?”
In the background, everyone is just getting more and more concerned with Hen and Chimney also rising to their feet and putting their mugs down. Buck half thinks one of them might sneak away to grab a tranquilizer or something, a true sign he should have never done this, but it’s too late for that now.
Luckily for everyone, Chris puts them all out of their misery by giggling: “No, papi.”
“Good answer!” Buck cheers, pressing a kiss on Chris’s cheek as he hugs him closer. “That is right, do not go with a strange man.” He turns to everyone else, who is still staring at him, perplexed. Buck has never seen someone blue screen like that. Ignoring it, he just goes: “And that’s how you teach stranger danger, people.”
For a few seconds it’s silent. The three others in the room blinking at him as they try to wrap their heads around the sharp turn that has just happened.
Not wanting to wait around for the explosion, he barrels forward, talking to Chris again as he goes: “So, let’s make them not strange people. This is my Captain, Bobby. Do you remember me talking about Bobby?”
“I do, he’s the Captain with the nice food,” Chris tells him.
Buck blushes a little, saying: “He is indeed the Captain with the nice food, but that was our little secret, remember?”
“But, papi, you’re not supposed to lie,” Chris counters.
“It’s a non-serious lie,” Buck defends himself, feeling a little called out anyway. “But you’re right. No lying. Want to say hi and thank you for the nice food?”
Chris nods and Buck makes his way over to Bobby, so Chris can shake his head. “It’s nice to meet you, Captain Bobby. I’m Christopher. Thank you for the nice food.”
Bobby now remembers Buck sneaking leftovers out the fridge. He always let him, figuring the kitchen in his frat house sucked and he didn’t feel like cooking there. Having the sudden knowledge that his food has instead been shared with this kid. This son Buck has apparently had this whole time, twists something inside him.
A little shellshocked, he shakes Christopher’s hand, saying: “Uh, yeah, call me Bobby. It’s nice to meet you too, kid. I’m glad you like my food.”
Chris smiles at him, but Buck moves on to the others before Bobby manages to form his face into a semblance of a smile back. It hits him all over again. Buck is a father.
“This is Hen, the badass paramedic,” Buck says, gesturing to her first and she waves at Chris and Chris waves back.
“Hi, nice to meet you,” Hen smiles, shaking his hand when he holds it out.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Chris says politely and chipperly.
When Chris looks away again, she gives Buck a wide eyed look and quirks a brow. Buck sends a half grimace, half smile back. Then he moves onto Chimney saying: “And this is Chimney, the one with the funny name.”
“Hey! I’m also a badass paramedic,” Chimney exclaims, playing it up and snapping out of his funk, while Chris giggles. “Nice to meet you, kiddo.”
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Chris says.
During the introduction, it’s clear that both are obviously trying to hide how weirded out they are. Buck is starting to realize it might have been a little dumb of him to lean into the frat boy thing, but in his defense, it will probably be true soon. And that doesn’t hurt at all, no sir.
Shaking the gloomy thoughts off, he asks Chris: “I have to go talk to Bobby for a bit, do you wanna hang out with Hen and Chimney while I do? They know everything about the ambulances, I’m sure they’d love to answer your questions.”
“And then we can go look at the trucks?” Chris asks hopefully.
Buck just melts and he gives Chris a soft smile: “Yeah, buddy, then we can go look at the trucks.”
“Okay.”
He puts Chris down, encouraging: “Strong legs,” hovering a moment until he’s solid, before handing him his crutches. Then he points to the kitchen and says: “I’m going to be right there the whole time, so you can just call out if you need me, yeah?”
“I know, papi,” Chris assures him, a little bit of attitude that he totally gets from Eddie shining through.
“Alright, alright,” Buck grins as he shakes his head. Behind Chris’s back, he sends Hen a questioning look and a thumbs up, silently asking her if it’s okay. She gives him a reassuring smile and he relaxes a little with the relief.
He stays for just long enough to see Chris move towards them without any shyness, before making his way over to the kitchen. Bobby is right behind him and Buck feels very uncomfortable about the whole thing. Exposed in a way he usually tries to avoid.
So, before Bobby can say anything, he starts talking himself: “I know, I’m jumping this on you and I’m so so sorry. He was supposed to stay with Abuela, but she isn’t feeling well and tía Pepa can’t take him to her job and she couldn’t reach Eddie. But I can try to see if I can reach him, or stay behind and use my PTO or something. I totally understand if you can’t accommodate this right now. Again, I’m so sorry.”
“Buck, breathe,” Bobby says, brow creased worriedly. He places a hand on his shoulder and makes sure Buck is looking at him, then says: “We’re here to work with you. I’ll need to clear it with the Chief, but I’m sure we can figure something out until you figure out childcare.”
“Oh, that’s- that’s really nice,” Buck stammers.
Bobby still isn’t sure where the kid came from, but Chris is clearly Buck’s and he is panicking. As much as it hurts to think about it sometimes, he still recalls how stressful and scary being a parent can be. Of course he’s going to support him, even if he still hasn’t processed everything.
He squeezes Buck’s shoulder, searching for more words of support, finally settling on: “Of course.” He wants to ask more about the how and when of the kid, but before he can, Buck’s phone starts ringing.
“Fuck, that’s Eddie, I have to take this real quick,” Buck says, turning away, but not really moving away as he picks up: “Eddie? Hi, yeah, Pepa said she called you.”
Buck has never mentioned an Eddie before today and he doesn’t know how to feel about him, remembering what he almost fired Buck for. Maybe it’s more recent than that? Even if that seems even more ridiculous. God, Bobby hopes it is though.
He can’t hear what Eddie says. However, he does hear what Buck responds: “Everything’s fine. Abuela’s not feeling well, so she dropped Chris off here, until her workday is done.”
Then Buck listens briefly for a moment, before nodding, despite Eddie not being able to see. “Uh, yeah, that’s okay. Everyone here is super nice and helpful. Bobby says we can figure something out. So, I’ll keep him for now, no worries. We’ll look at the trucks and he’ll be thrilled. You just focus on training, I doubt your instructor will be pleased with you taking calls like this or missing out.”
Something in Bobby’s heart clenches at how soothing and worried Buck sounds. He gets the feeling he can now be reasonably certain he knows who Eddie is; his partner. Another thing they all missed. Buck has had a family this whole time. And they don’t sound strained, which is a relief. Though maybe also a bad thing?
That feeling is further confirmed when he sees a small shy smile on Buck’s face as he responds: “No problem. We’re a team, remember? Bye.”
He hangs up, before facing Bobby again face still slightly red. “Uh, sorry about that. Hope you don’t mind me promising that to Eddie.”
“I don’t. It’s okay, Buck, truly. We’re a team here too,” Bobby says, which makes Buck relax. He seems really anxious about this whole thing and Bobby worries about what makes him feel so on edge. “Are you okay?”
“Me?” Buck asks, taken by surprise. Then he smiles awkwardly and unconvincingly says: “I’m fine.”
Bobby levels him with a look and Buck looks away. Deciding that stern probably won’t work on Buck, he goes for compassion when he says: “Look, clearly this was something you didn’t want to share. I get that it’s scary and I just want you to know that we support you, no matter what. You’re safe here.”
Buck’s eyes widen momentarily, before his smile becomes more real. “Thank you. It’s not exactly like that, but thank you.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I just assumed-” Now it’s Bobby’s turn to be awkward. He could have sworn Buck was just coordinating with his… spouse? Partner? Boyfriend? Husband? His Eddie. Maybe it’s a nickname? Maybe it’s something else that would explain the sleeping around. He hopes it will explain the sleeping around.
“Oh, no, Eddie is my husband,” Buck quickly assures him, which clears up exactly nothing. In fact, it makes it worse.
“Now, I’m confused,” Bobby tells him honestly, praying Buck will give him more information that will turn him into someone Bobby recognizes, someone more than a cheater, who lies and hides.
“Uh, it’s- it’s a bit of a long story. Me and Eddie are married as friends, for Chris’s sake. His mom walked out and I kind of stepped up. So, I adopted him when Eddie had to go back into the military. He is training to be a firefighter right now. When he’s stable, he, uh- he’ll probably divorce me. Kinda hard to bring that up,” Buck grimaces apologetically.
Bobby blinks a few times, that is indeed a long story and that’s with probably most of the details missing. However, it does clear up the sleeping around situation, so he’ll take it. Still, unsure what to say, he asks: “So, how long have you two been married then?”
“Coming up two years, but living together and raising Chris for three,” Buck answers, looking over to Chris with a melancholic note in his voice.
Okay, so this isn’t just a recent thing for a last tour, but a years long thing. Bobby knows what it is like to lose a kid, but to know they’re still out there? God. He doesn’t know this Eddie, but that is an awful thing to do to a person. He frowns: “And you’re just going to disappear when he is stable?”
“Uhm, yeah, probably. I mean, we haven’t really discussed it,” Buck rubs the back of his head, then admits: “I’ve been too scared to ask.”
“Buck…” Bobby breathes, unsure how to even begin to tackle all this.
“I know,” Buck sighs before he can figure it out. “I know I should talk to him. I know that. But if I know, I can’t cling to the possibility of it not happening, you know?”
He looks devastated. It’s only in his eyes, his face keeps that helpless half smile, but his eyes carry a deep grief that Bobby knows. He has already given up on keeping a professional distance, so he just pulls Buck into a tight hug and holds him close when Buck melts into it.
When he pulls back, he says: “The not knowing is killing you too. Talk to Eddie, tell him this. If he is a friend, he’ll understand and want to help. We’ll be here for you whatever happens.”
“Thank you, pops,” Buck says with a crooked grin, sounding a little choked up. He hasn’t called Bobby that since his second month there, but the nickname brings back a wave of nostalgia, and – treacherously – a voice in his head flirts with the possibility of being a grandfather, before Bobby represses it.
“Of course,” is what he ends up saying. His smile feels a little more forced, but he sounds genuine when he says: “Go show your son the trucks, I’ll call the Chief.”
Buck’s eyes sparkle when he says ‘your son’ and he nods eagerly: “I will. Again, thank you so much,” then he bounces off to the couches.
At the couches, Hen and Chimney have stared at Chris for all but two seconds. Neither of them have a clue what to do with the surprise news that Buck apparently has a kid. A kid that is now staring at the two of them with big eyes.
“Uh, so how old are you, Chris?” Hen finally asks. A standard question to ease into it.
“I’m seven,” Chris tells her proudly.
Hen quickly does the math. That makes Buck nineteen when Chris was born. She shares a look with Chimney, who did the same math as her. With Buck’s record of sleeping around, that doesn’t entirely come as a surprise. However, the well adjusted kid speaks to a lot more maturity that his recklessness would indicate.
“That’s already really grown up,” she smiles at Chris, who beams with pride.
Both of them are used to working with kids, so Chimney takes over: “Buck mentioned you were interested in the ambulances?”
Now Chris lights up even more. He sure is a happy kid, Hen thinks fondly. Apparently Buck is a good dad, that’s nice. And it becomes increasingly clear that he raised Chris, because when he starts launching questions at them that are truly impressively detailed, his face is the exact same one that Buck makes when he’s learning things and curious. It’s truly adorable to see.
They answer his questions the best they can, getting very charmed by this kid in front of them. They can almost forget that Buck pulled a kid out of thin air. Still, every time he does something Buck-esque they’re reminded all over again.
Hen wonders if there is some drama with the mother, since she now recalls Buck knowing a lot about custody. If Chris had been an accident, then they might not be together anymore and Buck has had to go to court about it. Maybe it had been a whole thing?
Chimney meanwhile realizes why Buck canceled so much on them at the start. Still does, they’ve just gotten used to it. At the time he’d been so jealous thinking he must have more fun parties or hot dates, but he probably was just going home to his son. Obviously childcare is an issue.
He wishes the kid had just opened his damn mouth about it. He remembers how rough it had been for Hen and Karen when they first adopted Denny. How it’s still difficult sometimes. They could have helped. Chim finally got the babysitting gig down. He has had practice.
It’s a bit of a mindfuck to have to reframe Buck from a frat boy to a teen parent. However, the pieces do fit in a way. The flashes of maturity, the way he can flip the switch to being responsible, the way he’s gold when there are kids on a scene.
So, yeah, Buck is a dad. That’s a little new.
But it’s only new to them, clearly it’s not new to Buck. Because when he’s done with his talk to Bobby he swoops back in, hauling Chris up over his shoulder as he says: “LAFD here to rescue you!” which makes Chris shriek with delight.
Buck puts him back down and ruffles his hair, matching big smile on his face. “Are you ready to look at the trucks now, Superman?”
“I am, I am,” Chris says, bouncing up and down.
“Alright, then, let’s get this show on the road,” Buck exclaims, gesturing for Chris to lead.
The four of them make their way downstairs, all of them smiling at Chris’s excitement at seeing the trucks. Despite being older than him, they all remember that same feeling from their first day.
It’s obvious that Buck takes much pride in his work and the fact that Chris thinks his career is cool. As he shows everything with much gravitas and importance, not to mention a matching thrilled sparkle in his eyes.
Chris gets to try on his helmet and sit in the rig, while Buck takes a billion pictures. After he’s snapped one in particular, he grins at Chris: “Daddy’s going to be so jealous of you, getting to sit in a real fire engine before him.”
“He will,” Chris grins slightly mischievously.
Behind the duo, both Chimney and Hen freeze. Daddy. There is a second parent involved. With what they know of Buck that is almost more unexpected than the kid thing.
Hen wonders if maybe the other dad is trans and it’s still what she first thought, while Chimney immediately grimaces. He doesn’t want to judge Buck too harshly, I mean, he didn’t for Hen, but it’s different with Buck. So, he can’t help but judge a little.
“Daddy?” Hen asks, deciding it’ll be better to just find out. If it puts Buck on the spot, they can pretend to buy whatever excuse he comes up with for now and interrogate him later.
“Uh-huh,” it’s Chris, who answers, “he’s becoming a firefighter like papi is!”
Buck on the other hand looks less enthusiastic and more like a deer in headlight, blinking two times, before quickly explaining: “Eddie is Chris’s dad – other dad. Bio dad? – uhm, he’s my husband, but we got married as friends. It’s a bit of a long story.”
“They made them kiss,” Chris informs the other two firefighters there a bit too gleefully. “It was really silly.”
“Chris was with us for the wedding,” Buck clarifies with a blush. “It’s a thing they expect you to do.”
Both of them just nod. Hen is sure that there is a much more detailed and much more stupid story there to explain all this, but honestly, she doesn’t feel like figuring it out. Chris is still right there and Buck looks like he’s going to kneel over if they ask more. She’ll wrangle it out of him when he’s had more time to get his head on right.
At that point the alarm goes off and Buck freezes a little. However, Bobby appears at the top of the stairs, about to go down the pole. Before he does, he calls out: “Buck, get yourself into gear. Kid’s coming with us.”
“Aye, aye, Cap,” Buck says, relieved to get some clarity. Then to Chris he goes: “You hear that, bud, you’re going to be a firefighter today.” Chris cheers. “Stay right there, okay, I’ll be with you soon,” Buck promises, before hurrying off to get into his gear.
When they’re driving to the accident, Chris has a thousand more questions and eagerly listens to all their answers and explanations. As well as to the little jabs and teases they throw at Buck. He takes them like a champ, rolling his eyes as he takes more pictures.
At the scene, Bobby sends Buck out there, keeping a close eye on Chris for him and walking the boy through everything that’s happening. He makes sure to pay extra close attention to Buck and explain what he is doing to Christopher.
Bobby tries not to, but he can’t help but wonder if Robert Jr. would have been equally as invested if he’d ever been able to go with him to work. He always misses his family, his kids, the most on days like these. On calls with kids, or when classes come in.
He puts it out of his mind though. Buck is closer to being his kid on most days and he has made some peace with it, even if he won’t acknowledge it yet. However, it makes it easier with Chris than with another kid. It doesn’t feel like he’s replacing his own, it’s a relationship he hasn’t had with anyone before yet. New is good.
After the call, Chris is in high spirits, excitedly rerunning every moment to everyone and asking more questions. He is very much Buck’s child. However, this also means he’s easily distracted by the video games they have and the pinball machine.
For a snack, Bobby asks if he liked one leftover in particular, making sure to whip that up, much to the boy’s delight.
By seeing Buck around Chris so much, it normalizes itself in their brains that Buck is a dad. The shock and newness wears off and they can appreciate this side of their probie they hadn’t seen before.
Buck is still basically an over excited puppy, but he matches Chris’s energy pretty well, never going further than he wants. He also has gotten the balance between letting Chris be independent and preventing him from doing something dangerous down to a science.
It’s very interesting to see traits they know he has being dialed up or down to suit this situation. How natural it looks on him, despite their previous assessment of him being a frat boy.
However, it’s also very obvious to all of them, that he is still a kid himself, raising another kid. None of them – bar Bobby – have a general idea of how long he’s been doing this, but they can all gather that Chris is older than most kids people Buck’s age have.
Of course he’s a firefighter, but he tosses Chris around like it’s nothing, keeping up easily with his boundless energy, and saying stuff like: “High five, Superman!” when Chris tells Chimney that his movie quote was weird.
All in all, Chris is having a blast and so is the 118.
They’re all helping Chris slide down the pole, grinning as he goes, when a brown haired man comes wandering into the firehouse. He stops short when he sees the whole spectacle, then smiles.
Out of everyone there, only Hen has spotted him. At first she thinks he might need help, but they have to focus on Chris’s safety first. However, when she sees him stopping to watch, she knows that must be Eddie. Buck mentioned them getting married as friends, but looking at him smiling at Chris and Buck, she doesn’t know how much truth there was to that.
Her theory that this is Eddie is confirmed when Chris is safely on the ground. Buck is grinning down at him, not paying attention to anything else. Then Chris spots Eddie and smiles widely: “Daddy!”
“Hey, buddy,” Eddie smiles back.
Buck immediately turns to look at him, a love struck look coming on his face when he says: “Eddie, hey!”
Fucking hell, she was so right that there is a much more detailed and much more stupid story there. It is obvious to her that if these two are married as friends, they’re both lying to the other and maybe to themselves about it.
“Hey, Buck,” Eddie greets back unnecessarily. “You two look like you are having fun.”
“We are,” Chris answers for them, bouncing up and down. “I got to try on papi’s helmet and sit in the rig and then we went to this crash and the sirens were on. We had these headsets and I got to see papi work. He saved this lady from her car. It was so cool!”
“That sounds very cool,” Eddie tells him, the utter adoration for his son clear in his eyes. He cards his hands through Chris’s hair and hugs him close.
While that happens, Buck has also come to circle the two of them. He says: “I thought tía Pepa was taking him today. You’re here early. Everything okay?”
“Yeah, everything’s fine,” Eddie assures him. “Instructor let us go early today. I think he’s getting soft on us.”
“Pff, of course. LA training is soft on you all,” Buck teases.
Eddie rolls his eyes, apparently familiar with this particular taunt as he replies: “Here we go again. Let me guess, in Texas they forced you all to sweat through it like tough guys.”
“You got it,” Buck grins. “Anyway, I’m being rude. This here is Bobby, my Captain.”
Bobby steps forward, shaking Eddie’s hand as he says: “I’m Eddie Diaz, it’s nice to meet you, sir.”
“Likewise,” Bobby smiles. “And no need for sir. Just Bobby is fine.”
“This here is Hen and Chimney,” Buck moves on introducing both.
They shake Eddie’s hand too, telling him it’s nice to meet him while he returns the sentiment, though he adds: “It’s so nice to put a face to the names,” as he does. Whatever hiding Buck was doing, it was a one sided hiding act. However, none of them mention it. Not in front of Chris.
“So,” Buck claps his hands. “Did you come for a tour of the trucks too? I told Chris all the facts, he could probably give you a great tour. You know, since he’s been in an actual rig.”
“You’re full of it,” Eddie tells him, but he’s smiling too much to mean it.
“I know,” Buck replies simply and Hen wonders if they know they’re flirting.
Before either can figure that out, however, Chris tugs on Eddie’s hand, pleading: “Please, daddy, I can show you everything. There are loops on the hoses, just like papi said. Do they teach you that too?”
Eddie looks a little caught out, trapped between Chris and the 118. Carefully he says: “I’d love to, mijo, but papi and his team have people to save and help. We should give them space to work.”
“It’s okay,” Bobby says, before Chris can even pout properly. Much like his papi, Chris has got him wrapped around his little finger. “We have the house on low priority calls for the time being. You staying a little longer won’t be an issue.”
“You’re sure?” Eddie checks anyway.
“I’m sure.”
“Thank you so much,” Eddie says, before turning to Chris: “Well, then I would love a tour.”
Excitedly Chris directs Eddie to the trucks, telling him everything he’s just learned, while Buck chimes in from time to time with other tidbits or words Chris has forgotten. Throughout it all, Eddie listens with great pleasure. He’s clearly not as much of a talker, but it seems Chris and Buck more than make up for that.
While they all watch the family from the sidelines, Chimney asks: “So, does anyone know more about what their deal is?”
Bobby – the savior with actual information – answers: “From what I understand, they got married after Chris’s mom walked out so Buck could be there when Eddie had to go back into the military. They’ve been living together for three years, married two.”
Chimney whistles lowly, then checks: “And we all heard him say they’re married as friends, right?”
“Oh yes, we did,” Hen replies, sounding a little pained.
Next to her, Chimney cocks his head, watching Buck and Eddie bump shoulders every time they walk, because there is no space between them. Slowly, he asks: “And… are we… believing that?”
“Oh, definitely not,” Hen says.
“Come on, guys. Let’s not speculate too much. Buck hasn’t been comfortable sharing, we should respect that,” Bobby butts in, trying to be the responsible Captain.
That earns him a double judgmental look from both Chimney and Hen, before they ignore them and turn back to their conversation. “I don’t think Buck would do the whole sleeping around like that thing, if they were actually already together,” Hen says.
“So, we’re betting on pining.”
“Of course.”
“Okay, they’ve already been doing this for three years… That denial runs deep.”
“Yeah, it definitely does,” Hen agrees. “Did Buck mention anything about their communication to you, Bobby?”
Bobby sighs and rubs his brow, then decides he’s really no better than either of them. So, he admits: “It is their plan to divorce one day, but Buck hasn’t talked about it yet, because he fears Eddie will just cut him out.”
“…Now I don’t know if I should laugh at him or feel a deep sympathy,” Hen comments with a jikes grimace on her face.
“I told him to talk to Eddie about it. Clear the air,” Bobby offers.
“Twenty dollars on them figuring it out when Buck brings it up,” Chimney says confidently. “There is no way, Eddie is going to not kiss him about that.”
“Hmm, I don’t know.” Hen appraises Eddie again, squinting as she tries to get a read on him. “Twenty on them not figuring it out for another three years. And another forty on them never getting divorced.”
“Uhm, you can’t bet on things that are basically facts,” Chimney complains.
“Hey, you don’t know that!” Hen exclaims, knowing he is right, but she doesn’t care if it’ll get her forty dollars. They’ve been eyeing new cutlery.
“Ugh, fine! But I’d like it on the record that I protested it and I want my counter bet to be that they do a vow renewal instead,” Chimney says.
“Alright, deal,” Hen nods, shaking Chimney’s hand as they seal the deal.
They all return to watching the three at the trucks again. Buck has lifted Chris onto his shoulders, so he can properly point at all the things he’s talking about. Eddie is listening to him, sure, but he is definitely more focused on Buck.
After a few beats, Chimney wonders: “Hey, now that we know Buck adopted Chris and they met a few years ago. Do you all think there is some truth to him snatching Chris story?”
“God, I fucking hope not.” … “Five bucks says there is.”
“Ten says it’s an exaggeration.”
They shake on it.
“Fuck it,” Bobby mutters, then says: “Five on it being wilder than that.”
They shake with Bobby too, then wait until the tour is done. They haven’t gotten to speak with Eddie much, but it’s okay. Everyone has gotten the chance to observe him and he seems nice and polite when they say goodbye.
Buck stands there like a mom on the very first day of school, waving at them until they disappear when they do leave. The others kindly do not call him out on it. There is a bet now, so no interfering.
Still, the only reason they don’t ask, probably actually is because the alarm starts ringing so they have to go and focus on an emergency instead of Buck’s newly revealed private life.
Throughout the course of their shift, they do learn more details about how Buck got into that situation. When he tells them about dating Eddie’s ex-wife and meeting her while she shopped for eggs, is something they have a fucking filed day with. And it earns both Hen and Bobby some money.
They also learn about Eddie’s chopper getting shot down and Buck nursing him back to health. He chokes up a bit there and Hen rubs his shoulder.
As she does, she feels a little bad about the self satisfied grin she tucks away. If they can go through that and not confess, she was definitely right in placing her money on three years.
However, overall, it doesn’t change too much.
Still, when Buck comes in for his next shift, they all eagerly turn to him, wondering if he’ll turn back into over-sharer Buck now that the cat’s out of the bag. They need to know more about this nonsense he found himself in.
Buck does not disappoint. He eagerly hollers: “Eddie is not going to divorce me!” which turns the heads of everyone who hadn’t been there last shift. Seems like Buck is going to have to explain it all over again. And the betting pool will grow. Hen is so getting that new cutlery.
Llsdkghdhkf there was so no reason for Buck to do pretend to have kidnapped Chris, but the idea was just too funny and you can’t tell me he wouldn’t in his awkward insecurity
B: “Uh, yeah, that’s okay. Everyone here is super nice and helpful. Bobby says we can figure something out. So, I’ll keep him for now, no worries. We’ll look at the trucks and he’ll be thrilled. You just focus on training, I doubt your instructor will be pleased with you taking calls like this or missing out.”
E: “Okay, that’s good. Thank you.”
B: “No problem. We’re a team remember. Bye.”
E: “I do. Still, thanks. Bye.”
I’m going to see Sonic 3 tonight I’m so excited!!!! I’m gonna YELL if they play any kinda rendition of Live & Learn. I’ll probably yell regardless.
Drew this to celebrate, and because I hadn’t made a finished drawing of Shadow in a while even though it’s literally his year
The majority of the time it took to draw this was spent trying to add his arm and hand
I eventually got too frustrated and just got rid of em but I’m still gonna post one of the sketches because I spent too damn long on that to just. Not.
replaying omori (been 3 years good lord) and i guess this makes me an evil aubrey apologist but honestly the fact that she got shit for acting the way she does in the real world is lowkey crazy. like if i’m grappling with an unbelievably heavy deal of grief and have been for the past four years and suddenly my old annoying friend and his quiet buddy come barreling back into my life by provoking me inside a church (the only place i have found that allows me to feel some semblance of peace) in front of the entire town, effectively embarrassing me, ruining my day, and getting me shunned and banned from said church… i would’ve splattered blood on the walls of that church dude i’m just saying!! i’m just saying!
#using the word ‘annoying’ to describe kel in a loving way he’s my goat#but yeah i remember this bothering me even back when i was 15 and played for the first time#where people online were like ohhh aubrey evil evil aubrey so sick and cruel#like hey can we talk about kel repeatedly harassing her#and giving her zero time to explain her side of the story#just repeatedly villainizing her#and also? in aubrey’s eyes basil had. literally defaced the last thing aubrey had of mari. i’d be fucking upset too??#idk man! both sides were screwed up! and i wish that was recognized more sighh#anywayyy i just reached last resort in my playthru which was my least fav segment 3 years ago#so great. Haha. I’m so excited <- sarcasm#lmfao anyway#omori#aubrey omori
hellooo !!!! ive been really curious about this ever since i started studying your design of him, but i was wondering if there was any extra context for javier's bow??? its such a nice design element and it adds alot of personality so i wondered if there was any backstory behind it !!! :3 - Oizys-Mutt
hello :] ! firstly, thank u ! i’m very glad u like the big bow i gave him !!
to be perfectly honest with u, most of my designs and their elements don’t have a ton of conscious thought to them … to me, they just Feel Right, if that makes any sense ? it’s pure intuition. i gave kieran a big bow on his hat (u can’t hardly ever see it usually but it’s there) and i thought it would be very cute to have javi match with him :’] and personally, with javier’s sense of style, i do think he would accessorize more if given the circumstance, including things like bows (canonically he usually wears similar items around his neck- we could dare to say a few were originally hairpieces), so i just think it suits him ! so no crazy backstory, but the design i draw him with is post-kieran influence, which means that his bow is much bigger than the one i headcanon he used to wear before kieran gifted him bigger ribbons. i’d draw what pre and post kieran javi designs look like to me but im at work </3
but thank u !!! i’m glad u like it !!! i wish it did have some cool backstory or something <//3
#i imagine he used to wear a very thin ribbon to tie his hair#like bolo tie thin#just because i do think he would enjoy the fashion of a nice bow#but kieran has a BIG BIG bow on his hat and he always ties it himself#so he knows how and where to buy nice ribbons#so he’ll get silken ribbons for javier’s hair as a gift because he saw that he ties his hair with ribbon#and the bow is bigger than what javi is used to so at first he feels a bit awkward#like ‘this is kinda girly no ?’#but he eventually becomes very fond of it and starts to wear them relatively often esp when they match his outfit#anyway i just think he’d care about the presentation#esp to suitors (particularly women because women love a man who can be a little feminine)#like he cares about tying it back and he cares about accentuating his waist and he cares about his spurs being visible and i just think he#would LITERALLY put a bow on to top it all off 🫶#sorry for rambling and also sorry for not having a more exciting answer <//3#it’s my fav part of my design for him though i think so thank u so much i’m so happy u like it#and thank u for the ask !!!!!#oizys-the-mutt#rdr2#javier escuella#javieran#technically#text#ask#hero's yelling at folks again
Spotify prompt! Knuckles and tails, an 19 :)
Oh hoho! You managed to land FightSong by EVE (<- YouTube link), a song that by all rights shoulda been #2 (<- I refuse to pay Spotify money).
Hmm…. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything with Super Sonic Speed, but I always did intend to write follow-ups…
.•.•.•.
The city is unbelievably loud. They’re in what Sonic had called a shopping district, and it’s apparently very popular. Knuckles would kind of like to go home, a lot, actually, but Tails is flirting from one shop to another and he doesn’t have it in him to shut the kid down. Sonic is somewhere on the periphery of their little group— he and Tails had bonded, thick as thieves, and Knuckles— well, he tolerated the guy.
Tails gasps like he’s seeing the sun rise for the first time, excited enough that he’s lifting off the ground. Knuckles ambles over, grabs him by the ankle, and pulls him back down. He’s looking at some sort of… thing. Knuckles can’t make heads or tails of it, but it’s definitely saying something to Tails.
Hmm. He is, at least, familiar with the idea of shops. Chao liked to set them up, sometimes, selling fruit or handmade crafts for rings, but Knuckles has no idea if their idea of currency and everyone else’s aligns. Would the shopkeep accept a fruit? Most chao did. It isn’t like rings are a problem, so…
Knuckles turns, seeking out Sonic in the crowd. There he is— stiff as anything, glancing frantically back and forth between Knuckles and some other hedgehog, a pink one. One of his friends, maybe? They look irritated, maybe not. Knuckles steps away from Tails, invites himself into their conversation.
“and you just RAN OFF—“ the hedgehog is shouting. Sonic cracks his mouth open, a faint wheeze escaping.
“Hey,” Knuckles says.
“—do you have ANY IDEA how WORRIED I was—“
This looks like a battle Sonic is better off fighting on his own. Still, Knuckles needs his question answered. “Hey,” he repeats, slightly louder.
“—I mean, I knew you were alright because my cards said so, but—“
“Hey Knuckles,” Sonic manages to crack out, “this is Amy.”
Amy tilts her head at him, and then gives him a sharp, discerning once-over. “Are you one of his other friends?” She asks.
“Yeah, sure,” Knuckles says, and then “do rings work as currency down here?”
She blinks at him, as if this is a weird thing to ask. “Yes?” She says.
“Okay,” Knuckles says, nodding, “try not to scare him too bad.”
Any lingering confusion evaporates, and she whirls around to find Sonic trying to sneak away. “AGAIN!” she shouts, full of conviction, and Knuckles makes his way back to where he left Tails. He isn’t pressed up against the glass anymore, so Knuckles steps into the store. Yeah, there he is. Hovering— literally— over the same display.
Knuckles takes a moment to properly observe, rooting around for the terms Tails would use, in an attempt to ensure he gets the right thing. There’s a looping track, and a few other gadgets on the sides. A switch, one of them looks like, and some barricade, and a few blinking lights. On the track itself is a… sideways cylinder, set on wheels, connected to a few boxes, puffing out smoke— or steam, maybe. Tails is absorbed enough in watching it chug along that he doesn’t even realize Knuckles is standing right next to him. Knuckles’ll just have to make sure he comes up for air, occasionally.
He casts about the rest of the store, vaguely lost. There are a lot of displays, and a lot of colourful boxes. Knuckles picks up one, flips it over, and realizes swiftly he is out of his depth. He brings the box over to Tails, handing it to him. Tails holds onto it for a full few seconds, watching with bated breath as the cylinder switches tracks, before he looks down. His fur all along his spine puffs up, and he turns to look at Knuckles so fast he has to wonder if Sonic hasn’t started to rub off on him in more ways than one. That’s the right box, for sure.
“Really?” Tails asks, voice breathy with excitement, and Knuckles ruffles his fur instinctually.
“‘Course.”
Maybe the shopping district isn’t that bad.
#eggthew#prompt fill#askbox#uhhh so. I kind of barely followed fightsong at all I CAN EXPLAIN#went off the visuals instead of the lyrics. two people running around in city. ooh I could do knuckles protecting tails from Eggman in some#kind of egg city! ah hang on there’s the eggperial city arc in idw and I haven’t read that yet. so I’m not confident in portraying it. hmmm#I could do a Different egg city… man Knuckles and Tails. what a great pair. I really enjoyed writing them in super sonic speed. hey! I could#do super sonic speed’s Knuckles’s first time in a city! maybe he gets kind of freaked out? escape from the city haha#well tails would be familiar with cities. and sonic would be there ofc but I’ll shuffle him off to the side so he doesn’t hog the spotlight#I could do tails looking at a shop! yeah! and knuckles needs to ask how currency works but sonic is… busy? hmm. oh! a city!!!! amy lives in#a city!! she runs into sonic! which keeps him from coming back over with knuckles. I always did mean to write her reunion with sonic.#that’ll be nice to do. alright. perfect. it’s all working out. get to the final few lines. think ‘hey how did I end up with this anyway.’#pulse of adrenaline as my brain goes OH YEAH FIGHTSONG. ach.#I’m happy w this though :)#knuckles: I Tolerate sonic. at best.#sonic: hey I am in a vaguely uncomfortable situation#knuckles *rolling up metaphorical sleeves*: do I need to kick ass#Amy making a mental note: sonic apparently befriending a space alien okay okay cool#they meet up for ice cream. knuckles is inflicted with curse of immediate brainfreeze. tails is So Excited about his new model train set#within a week he mods it to A) be strong enough to pull the Master Emerald and B) be armed.
also I am not an Austen heroine but I might be if Bingley were a woman and also inherently and of necessity smarter and much further along in my character journey (all love to Bingley)
#akskskjejejeje#the quality that’s the same is just. We get the party started#We BEGIN the things#and then kind of have to go off and have our own little journey (the going back to town journey)#but the excitement of when we enter and re-enter the story (if I may say so myself) is the same#also there’s not really any Austen heroine who fits#Anne and Fanny are temperamentally very unlike me simply because of the being inwardly withdrawn/focused#I am close to a Marianne! But I don’t have the running into a brick wall intensity#Or at least not in the same way#I’m not Eleanor I could be Emma or Catherine but I don’t have Emma’s interfering faults or catherine’s total naïveté#and I’m just not Lizzy because if I saw a Darcy at a party I wouldn’t think ‘that’s a vaguely unpleasant man I’m either going to tease’#‘or totally ignore’#I would be like wow AMAZING I want him to be my best friend right now and then I would make it happen#hence the Bingley#Lol#anyway this all came from when I met Emma and she wrote fixing on the hour based on us being the girl version of their friendship#Anyway this is your open invitation to tell me which Austen heroine you think you are (if you want to!)
STASIS ➳ An inFAMOUS: Erosion mini-fic
I wrote the first bit of this in December before publishing Erosion, when I was still feeling/figuring out what tale I wanted to tell. It’s a portion I refuse to edit, so excuse any issues — I love that I was able to return to this sure of what I want Jean’s story to mean, and combine the two pieces into one. It means a lot to me.
See y’all next Monday!
The crash of the waves and the roar of the wind did nothing to eclipse the sound of screaming in his mind.
A simple text. I love you. Three sweet words he made sure to repeat to them again and again when the silence lasted just a bit too long, when the pauses felt like they needed to be filled. A mantra he wanted them to remember, to keep ahold of no matter where they went; no matter what, I have my father, who loves me. There was no sadness to the reason, no ill-raised childhood or lack of an emotional father to drive him. Quite the opposite, in fact; he strived to be as open and thoughtful and honest as his own parents. He knew his children would be disadvantaged, growing up with only him at their side, but that gave him nothing but drive to repeat those three words at any given chance; he wished to ensure they never knew a lack of love, even as they lacked a mother.
It wasn’t rare to hear the words back, but it was uncommon for those three words to be said unprompted first. Perhaps it was the holiday spirit, something overtaking his daughter’s heart as the sun set on Christmas Eve. It was enough to make him smile at least, as he checked his phone while trapped in near-standstill traffic as the pair approached Seattle. Barely a quarter-mile away was the less-congested turnoff towards Salmon Bay, towards home. Towards his family. There was a relief to it all, a yearn to retire the night with some cheesy Christmas movies and a return to traditions he had left behind for fear of risking those two he said I love you to most. For going home now was more than simple decompression, but a restoration of the person he abandoned at those shores all those years ago.
There was a harmony to returning to the cliffs of his clan, to the tides of his tribe. Pieces of him shattered years ago on that chilled August night, and only now did it truly feel like he could pull the shatterings together and glue them, creating a new mosaic that proudly shined his truth. The I love yous he’d promise away came unrestricted and unconditional because he feared they would feel the isolation he did when the clock would tick long past midnight and the stars would give away to the blush of dawn. When the years were younger and the lines less traced into his forehead, there were three he promised his love to — but fate and hate tore one away, and he buried so many pieces of himself that he felt more scar than skin as he reeled in the epilogue of loss. He had to, if he were to keep the other two safe.
When the truth came uncovered and his lies undone, there was an underlying fear that his deception wavered their trust in him — that his love would be thrown into question as well as his lies. That never happened. In fact, it gave him the chance to unconditionally resume to love the parts of himself he shooed away. The choice to share was ripped away from him, but perhaps that wasn’t a bad thing; it forced him to ratify reality, to share with his children the parts of himself he yearned to every day since they opened their eyes. He became more than their guide to life, but their guide to power as they mirrored him in more than features now. This spanned beyond how his son’s eyes would crinkle like his, or how his daughter seemed to jut out her jaw in thought just as he would during his studies; because now parts of them were welded to his being in ways no other parent would experience.
So returning home held meaning in more than one form now, something he was itching to return to — until that call.
They abandoned the truck right there in the stagnant traffic, letting it stay idling mindlessly as they rushed north. Past the interchange, past the dozens of vehicles and solid red brake lights. They glared at him in bursts like the eyes of a beast, pupils of demons that always seemed to hunt him down no matter how hard he ran.
And ran he did. Eclipsed in pink and blue, he ran, begging any god out there that was willing to listen that he wouldn’t be too late again. Not this time he begged the sky above and the water below his feet as they met the Sound and he ran above it. Don’t let me miss my chance this time.
The structure grew on the horizon, glinting in the light of the setting sun. A wave taller than the trees, a tsunami in standstill. Eugene’s creatures screamed behind him at the sight as He Who Dwells led their charge, Delsin their beacon of light as he ran closer and closer to Salmon Bay. That wave was enough of a glimmer of hope. They were fighting. They were still fighting.
The wave came crashing down, ripping against the surface of the water and rocking the world under Delsin’s feet as its power rushed towards him like the blast radius of a nuke. His steps faltered and he fell under the surface, the shock of the cold winter waters making him inhale a lungful of liquid. He reached out to call to the water as it sent him spiraling and pulled it to him, ribbons of pink and blue abandoning him for frothing fluid and allowing him to rise again, to break the tension of the rocking waves and try to find his footing against them.
Eugene had gone forward and met the battle with vengeance in his eyes, years of unspoken hatred lashing out with harsh strobes of hard blue light, sighted against the one person that caused him pain throughout the years. There were others fighting in broken armor, trying to battle the demons and failing in their fight.
None of that mattered to him. None of it except for a flash of silver in the sky that moved to meet him as he stood against the Sound. A pillar of steel grew at his side and his son landed on the platform white as a ghost, barely able to make a noise. “Dad—I tried to grab her but she—”
“Where’s your sister?” He demanded over the roar of the waves and the screams of the hellions. Brent glanced around like he couldn’t believe the scene, like he was questioning all that was occurring.
“Delsin! You need to stop the tidal waves before they flood Seattle!” the wrought voice of He Who Dwells screamed.
Delsin repeated, more stressed, “Brent, where is your sister?”
His son’s eyes met his, and that was the moment the chill of the world around him sank into his bones, for he knew that expression. He wore it time and time again as he grappled with the effects of sudden loss.
The next hours were a blur; assigning his son to guard the doors that held his people, following the pull of the wild waves and straining to hold them back in Elliot Bay, where his world was rocked years ago. Was it fate’s cruel humor that his daughter would fall like her namesake? Or had Delsin damned her to her sentence when he wrote that name on her birth certificate?
No. He refused to accept such a fact until he saw her himself.
The fight was all but won when he returned to the shores of Salmon Bay, Eugene now himself and standing over the corpse of a woman who haunted them both, concrete speared through her own chest in a final act of defiance. Delsin didn’t care about that; all he cared about was that Jean had not surfaced in the time he stilled it, and he screamed her name to the waters again and again like a siren wailing a sad tune as he dove under, searching for another corpse.
Christmas passed a day of mourning, Delsin refusing to leave the waters of the Sound as blue-steeled angels swarmed its surface as guardians, aiding in his search. Brent had spent the morning frozen in front of the fire until he was handed a small parcel with Jean’s handwriting on a sticker in front: to Asshole with a heart etched in the negative space over the double s. No. He refused to open it without her. She was the only gift he truly craved.
The sun traveled across the horizon until the waxing moon took its place, the half itself seeming to grieve with a dimmed light. A silhouette would shoot through its gleam every now and again as Brent joined his father in his efforts, staring down in the vast black water and praying its emptiness was nothing but a trick of the eye. Eugene was there in bursts, insisting they come inside while he cleared the area of any proof of that witch’s existence. But they refused.
The first night was fruitless. The second was restless. And by the time the sun began to set 72 hours later, it had become hopeless.
Not that the passing time registered to Delsin; none of it mattered. Not the way his eyelids screamed to close, not the soreness in his biceps, not the screams of his empty stomach. He was sure the only reason he wasn’t dehydrated was because he was continuously absorbing the Sound’s dark waters. Perhaps if he pushed enough, he could drain it entirely and perhaps, then, he’d be lucky.
But was it really luck when he was beginning to wonder whether she’d wish to be buried or cremated?
Of course, he knew the answer; it came almost a year ago when his children had the conversation, unaware of how hard he gripped the counter while trying not to imagine that moment. “I want to be cremated, the idea of being worm food scares me. Maybe have some ashes put in art,” she said. “Some big mural right in the middle of downtown.”
Brent laughed, he himself saying something about wishing to be pressed into a gem and shoved into a sword. “What do you want, Dad?” He asked.
Delsin had thought for it to to happen far before either of you pass.
The 28th came on high winds and cold snow, throwing it all around into a blinding and deafening haze. It beat the thermals out from under Brent, whipped Delsin’s chilled hair into his eyes until tears pricked in their corners. Not that that was the only reason; he was losing hope. He had lost another body to the embrace of the Sound. He had been too late to help someone just within reach yet again.
He breached the waters again, gasping for breath and sweeping his slick hair back. The wind pierced through the sheen icy water on his face and made his teeth chatter, left him shivering in place as he frantically looked around the surface. As if the answers would be hidden in its ripples.
But the gusts were so loud, he failed to hear his son's calls until he circled over him like a vulture. “Dad!” He screamed over the winds. “Dad, over here!”
And he whisked away with the pull of the air, leaving Delsin to pull himself atop the Sound’s waters and chase after him.
He could feel it before he saw it; a deep churning in the waters, one that pulled him aside as he ran like a turntable. It was all being directed to a swirling vortex, a circular undercurrent that wasn’t meant to happen in an estuary.
Despite the chill of the ice water on his skin, it was the first time Delsin had felt the fire of being alive in the past few days.
“Go get Eugene, now!” Delsin screamed up into the air before the thick liquid came out from under him and he fell below the surface, the cold doing nothing but shocking more determination into his system.
He kicked and pushed and swam deeper into the dark waters, begging for this to be it. Even when he couldn’t differentiate the reeds from the waves any longer, he pushed. But that blindness didn’t matter, not as he went deeper; something thin seemed to absorb the last of the light to itself, forming a sheen bubble that frothed around—
Her.
There she was, floating freely in a stasis that held her in a gentle embrace. There were so many parts of her that seemed untouched; the hat on her head, the crease of her jacket. Delsin could barely tell the difference between her silhouette and the Sound’s shadow but he just knew, deep in his heart, it was her — especially as he breached the frothing bubble to enter the lukewarm waters and took her in his arms. She felt nearly as weightless as the first time he ever held her, and yet all he could think of was the heaviness of her condition.
Eugene was there the moment he burst through the Sound’s waters, sputtering from holding his breath for so long as he looked down at Jean. His Jeanie, his daughter, who’s head lulled against his chest.
It was there that he noticed the severity of her condition.
Her lips had left their pink for the deepest blue, bits of white frost adorning her temples that slowly melted as the harsh wind hit them. He couldn’t differentiate what purple in her skin was from the cold or the bruising, but there was no mistaking the ever growing swirls of red blood that stained the water around them.
Eugene’s hand immediately felt for a pulse, and murmured as he timed it, looking up to meet Delsin’s eyes. “She’s alive, but barely,” He said.
Advanced regenerative abilities wasn’t the miracle it sounded like; a conduit still felt the pain, the sting. They would bleed all the same and succumb to injuries too great for their powers to heal.
Delsin looked back down; there was a stillness to her face he didn’t like. The blue of her lips and the gray of her cheeks reminded him all to much of Abigail in that one moment he could bare to look at her corpse to identify it.
“Delsin.” His friend said, pulling him out of the flashes. His eyes were earnest but frantic when he looked up.
“Help her,” Delsin begged. Even the wind couldn’t hide how his voice broke.
Eugene’s face steeled. “I have your permission to do anything?” He asked of his friend, knowing the weight of his request.
Delsin glanced back down to run a hand across her forehead, the movement staining it deep pink. He looked to his hand which was covered in blood, and then up to his friend to nod.
“Anything,” he said. “I can’t live without her.”
Jean was gone from his arms in a flash, snatched up by an angel as it veered east towards Seattle. Eugene was next, arms tucked around the hold of a minion as the water under Delsin solidified and he rose to the surface, his son close behind as the ran to see, with bated breath, if there was anything the Doctor could do to reverse her injuries, or if it was too late.
Me, opening up a packet of the stuff the vet gave me: “I hope this probiotic powder doesn’t put my cat off his food. Can’t really help with his digestion issues if he doesn’t eat it”
I spill some because my hands can have problems with stability
My cat: *licks the stuff up like a kid who just discovered what powdered sugar was*
Me: “is this flavored?”
My cat: begs me for more powder and momentarily forgets his food
Me: “this has to be flavored”
#emma posts#sometimes him getting excited about new flavors for kitties is good#but other times his love of flavor exploration will lead him to eating a food he’s allergic to#and I can’t figure out what he’s reacting to right away because he just keeps eating the thing that makes his tummy hurt#at least I stop using things I realize cause allergic reactions#you’d think a little guy who doesn’t even know what allergies are would be even more off put by them#he’s so finicky about so many random things! but he loves new foods. especially more expensive ones. and that food was more expensive#this time he is getting a food for upset hairball tummies and has been enjoying it more than his old stuff too#I just hope that him traveling back and forth between his old food at my parents house and new food here causes problems#his old man tummy is getting more sensitive than it used to be and he’s getting a different food now… hopefully. and vitamins while he gets#these probiotics to hopefully make the change easier. I don’t want to jinx it but so far it seems to be really helpful#he hasn’t even gotten one hairball since starting the hairball food! and he loves his new vitamin treats#hopefully he’ll keep doing well with the old kitty vitamin treats#I want him to get his old man vitamins#even if he’s super healthy for his age. it’s good not to get worse!#i would know. as someone who dealt with not eating enough from medication side effects#I’m better now though! I switched meds and take more vitamins just in case#anyway. eating food is important for humans and kitties if you can get it it’s important!#and if your cat doesn’t get or absorb enough food they could get permanent damage to their bodies. never let your cat go more than three#days without food! try to make sure that they eat at least every 12 hours#they might not need as much food as you. but they can get a lot sicker a lot faster than humans usually do#I can ramble on and on about cat health though 😅 I just love my little guy so much#combo of better food formulated for hairballs and not giving him an allergic reaction with the probiotics too seems to be helping a lot#i knew cheap food wasn’t usually quite as good as the slightly more expensive stuff but holy shit. since moving out and now switching food#it’s been going so well for him! maybe I should ask my family to change the other cats food. I just hope that an extra 9$ a bag isn’t#off putting for them. i feel like fewer hairballs should be a great selling point
