Queer relationships don’t need to be validated or made canon through a kiss. There’s such a double standard that when characters of the opposite sex are so much as friendly to each other they are now canonically romanticly involved but characters of the same sex/those who are genderless can literally do all sorts of romantic things and straight people will rationalize it to an absurd degree. They will only accept it’s romantic when there is a kiss or an “I love you” (and even then they will find ridiculous ways to say it’s platonic) and that’s unfair and disingenuous to what romantic relationships are. Let characters be in a canonical relationship without the need for explicit physical intimacy.

That being said Eddie and Venom better make out sloppy style in this movie or I swear to god.

back on the topic of eddie brock never being the first choice. crazy to me to think about the origin of the venom symbol which is that the symbiote Was With Spiderman First. the venom symbol is a slightly creepier version of the spiderman symbol with an extra bend in the legs cause it's the symbiote's best approximation of what it thought spiderman wanted. and when spiderman rejects the symbiote and venom shows up it's still the same suit just on a different person. the symbiote learned emotions from peter parker and it is angry and hurt at not being wanted but it stays in the form it thought he wanted... peter parker disarms eddie brock once by telling the symbiote that he wants it back and attacking once the symbiote starts to leave... eddie has such a hard time throughout the comics with the fact that the symbiote Will Leave Him if prompted by the right person. and be so honest. what would you do if you were eddie brock and no matter where you went or what you did there was a symbol that you were somebody else's second choice emblazoned across your chest

something I’ve been thinking abt is how many people think Makoto is immune to despair. I don’t think he is. I think becoming the ultimate Hope was BECAUSE he felt despair. He wouldn’t have fully reached that point without Junko. Makoto becoming such a beacon was his last attempt to avoid completely falling and it wasn’t because he didn’t feel despair, it was because he was too damn stubborn to allow everything to go to waste and he refused to sacrifice his beliefs for someone else’s. His inner monologue tells me he DID experience the same new low the other suvivors did in the final trial, but at the point where he had the choice to give up and die, he looked at the others and he looked at Junko and he couldn’t allow it to happen, not out of self preservation, but because the idea that Junko would have control over their lives made him FURIOUS. and that utter refusal to die kicked in, wether luck or otherwise, and he made the concious effort for one last push while something in him was breaking. He had to be broken in order for the Ultimate Hope to come through so aggressively, bc it could only exist in the face of the Ultimate Despair. He snapped the same way she did, but in the other direction. In what could have been his final moments he chose to embody everything Junko wasn’t, and every single optimistic and luck fueled ideal in him suddenly charged forward and pushed him. It was a combination of the final straw and a choice. Makoto isn’t immune to feeling despair, he’s just too stubborn to fall into it of his own volition. I think that’s why I like that scene in DR3 so much. People were SO SHOCKED Makoto actually fell for the tape, that he actually became despair for a moment. I saw people getting mad or disappointed, saying it was pathetic and Makoto seemed to fall from some sort of pedestal for them. Honestly part of me wonders if that sort of mentality, which clearly people had in universe, affected Makoto a bit. Like he started to see himself as less of a person, subconsciously. Prompting him to take more risks, less self preservation, act way more bold. It seems he has to be reminded a lot not to put himself in danger by his friends, to not do something too reckless. All over the place I would see in regards to that scene either this frivolous ‘oh this was just angst drama with no meaning behind it’ or ‘he can do better than that. he’s so weak’ or ‘come on, there’s no way he’d fall into despair, he’s the Ultimate Hope!’ This kind of mentality, which was kind of ironic considering Ryota was there the entire time saying the same thing and treating Makoto the same way. Like Makoto was superhuman. Like Makoto didn’t feel despair the same way ‘normal people’ did. In a way that was also how Munakata saw Makoto. Makoto stopped being a PERSON to the world when he became Ultimate Hope, he became a concept, a belief system, much the same way Junko ascended beyond herself. But the difference is that treating Makoto that way is the opposite of the reason Makoto became such a representative for hope. He wasn’t doing something no one else could. He was doing something everyone had the chance to, he just… was a little more optimistic, a little more stubborn, a little more ‘gung-ho’ about things. He just took the lead where no one else did, where no one else knew they even COULD in the face of Junko’s unstoppable force. She had overcome the biggest threats and obstacles in the world, what could one person do? And the answer Makoto found was, anything. Everything. It doesn’t all rest on Makoto, he’s just the one that was inspired to try to do what seemed like the impossible. But as evidenced by the change in his friends after that trial, it’s clearly not something only Makoto is capable of. The others pulled out of despair thanks to Makoto, but it was their choice to do so.

Ok saw that persons post about how strawberry blond reminds them of Symbrock and I need to drop a couple of songs that remind me of Symbrock even though they’re kind of a stretch. This is going to be a bit long so I’ll make multiple posts.

Anyone for you (Tiger Lilly) by George Ezra

First of all it’s a very cute and cheesy song and I think that tone suits them well.

But the theme of being “anyone for you” just really hits hard. Venom has always modeled itself after Eddie. They care about the people Eddie cares about they care about the things Eddie cares about. The way Venom sees the world and thus navigates his environment is all relative to Eddie. And since the beginning of their relationship Venom has given up so much just to stay with Eddie and keep him happy. Venom gave up his planet and entire race, he gave up eating anyone he wants and learned how to love. All for Eddie.

On the flip side Eddie gave up his humanity. He gave up a normal human life because of Venom. Eddie changes himself and his life for Venom.

They change for each other. Again this is my favorite trope in action. The monster becomes more human and and the human becomes more of a monster.

I also just think it’s kinda clever since Venom has no distinct shape and can quite literally be anything.

I see the song kind of as a progression of their relationship through the three movies and this line right here:

“Well it came along but it wasn’t enough so she called me up just to call it off”

“I can’t afford to make that mistake this time”

Is Venom in the third movie thinking of all the times they have lost Eddie (the times they fought, basically the plot of LTBC) and realizing that he can’t have that happen

Now this song has always reminded me of them even before I saw Venom the last Dance but you know what line hits so much harder with the plot of VLD in mind?

The day after I saw this movie I was walking around and this song came on my playlist and when this line played I almost started to ugly sob.

Seen a lot of discourse going around about these two at the moment, so I thought I’d draw them and throw some positivity into the void because I love them both so much! They’re absolutely wonderful characters, and also you cannot tell me that  Rose “what’s your name, your pronouns and are you in a union” Tyler and Dan “I don’t need anything so long as other people around me are alright” Lewis wouldn’t be the best of friends, like just imagine it. They’re running through space and time to stand up to injustice and also offer you some soup (and maybe a bad pun or two), and they’ll make sure each other are okay whilst they’re at it. I love them.
