I'm a little over halfway through Where the Dragon's Rain Falls and I'm thoroughly impressed so far. It's mostly a political intrigue story with a cast of conniving bastards and some toxic yaoi on the side. I normally prefer my romance to be as vanilla as possible, but this is definitely an exception.

Just finished reading a long running 70s-80s manga adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the ending is genuinely so depressing. While the story does jump around from different characters perspectives, it's primarily about Liu Bei and his oath brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Which makes it all the more harrowing that all of those characters die roughly 60% of the way through the story, the remaining 40% is a slow and brutal death of the country and culture Liu Bei set off to protect in the first place.
I'm glad I finally got around to reading an adaptation of the literary classic, but I can't get over how brutal of an ending it is. Sometime later this year I intend on reading The Ravages of Time: a manhua adaptation of the same story, but with from the perspective of Sima Yi. Hope that series will endear me more to Wei, because I can't help but feel a little bitter towards them after that ending.

Finished Nine Sols and got the true ending. Absolute masterpiece of a game, I was crying all throughout the credits. I wish I could wipe my memory and play it for the first time again, a truly unforgettable experience.
Simply peak, please go play it

Just finished the jailbreak sequence in Nine Sols. I was already enjoying this game, but that was particular segment was so fucking cool. It's not surprising the devs put in horror elements considering their previous games, but it was masterfully implemented here.

kinda obsessed with the character archetype that’s like: horrible person but so charismatic that you can kinda understand why they have such a devoted band of followers
some examples would be tsurumi tokushirou from golden kamuy, askeladd from vinland saga, and kan ki from kingdom, three characters that i have many thoughts on, so i want to look at some similarities
these three all are cunning manipulators who pretend to work for their country’s govt despite having no real loyalty to or respect for (and even despising) their country's leader, use a mask of charisma to cover their emotional turmoil, are haunted by the loss of a loved one, and constantly break the law without getting much punishment for it because they are either in positions of power or enabled by those who are
*spoilers ahead*
tsurumi and askeladd both pretend to display a sense of camaraderie towards their men when it suits them, while using them as disposable pawns
(left: one of tsurumi's subordinates realizing he never saw any of them as anything more than pawns / right: askeladd admitting to his men that he always hated all of them and was just using them)
askeladd and kan ki are both bandits with troubled childhoods who started killing by the age of 13, deeply despise the society they live in, and have some level of fondness for their respective mcs despite never getting along with them
(left: askeladd encouraging thorfinn(the mc) to do something meaningful with his life / right: kanki's subordinates telling shin(the mc) that kan ki was fond of him)
kan ki and tsurumi both display a sadistic cruelty and viciousness, seen to be practiced in torture and using that as an outlet for rage, and have a thing about liberating the oppressed
(left: kan ki expressing that ri boku(an enemy general) cannot understand him because he doesn't understand what it's like to be oppressed / right: tsurumi expressing a (somewhat performative but also serious) desire to liberate those oppressed in the aftermath of the war)
there are a lot of similarities between these three, but they differ from each other in their motivations, goals, and roles in the story, making them unique. although they all fall under the umbrella of this certain type of character, they aren't interchangeable because each of them is so multifaceted
would love to write a more in depth character analysis for each of them someday, but for now just thinking about the parallels

critical role campaign 2 is really that bitch. best cr PCs of all time. best NPCs of all time. the golden age of Sam's ads. MOTHER I BRING NEWS FROM THE WOMB. storytelling and pure luck coming together for such cohesive, meaningful narrative. the themes of identity, second chances and growth. FLUFFERNUTTER. making my way. WIZARDS. SO MANY WIZARDS. the Luxon. Ruby of the Sea, the best lay ever. accidental piracy. a theatre full of people yelling BALLEATER. three kobolds in a trench coat. successfully getting precious state secrets with 12 persuasion. AEOR MY BELOVED. the pusheen ad. taliesin resurrecting himself. AND THEN IN THE END, THERE WERE NEIN OF THEM.

As a long time sports manga enjoyer, I feel like the 2020's have a real potential to be a golden age for the genre

I've heard good things about Sable, but after playing for an hour, I do not see the appeal beyond the aesthetics. Truly just Breath of the Wild, but with clunky ass controls and a shit ton of boring exposition. I might try it again someday, but I think the game does such a poor job of "hooking" the player. I don't care if "it gets good later", if it isn't good right away it isn't worth playing in my eyes
#sable#indie games#so many games try to improve the formula of botw and lose all what made that game good in the first place

Just finished this indie rpg called Dread Delusion on Steam; after my 20 hour playthrough I'm left more conflicted than I ever have felt after finishing a game. Exploring the Oneiric Isles and filling out my map was extremely satisfying, the ambient soundtrack really made this feel like such a serene gameplay experience. That is, until you get to the god awful combat, at least. I truly believe this game would have been better off if there was literally no combat whatsoever.
I strongly recommend this game to people that are looking for a relatively short game with a fun world to explore and some mostly great quests along the way. I also recommend to any of the people who are interested in this game to never level up the might stat.
Charm > Lore > Guile >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Might
Despite my issues with the combat, the highlights of this game will stick with me for a while.

man it is so satisfying cooking something for the first time and having it turn out good
last week i made a romesco sauce for the first time and it was one of the best things I've ever cooked; today I made sesame noodles and they turned out great despite me not having every ingredient that's traditional in the recipe

I know copyright is complicated, but the official translation of Girl Meets Rock! completely censoring the lyrics has got to be one of the worst solutions to a problem I have ever seen. Call me pessimistic, but, I'd rather there be no official translation at all if this is the way it's gonna be handled from here. The lyrics are chosen very deliberately, censoring them completely changes the context of the scene! It makes all the songs feel completely hollow and meaningless.
tl;dr: mangaplus fuck off
