Art does watch them whenever they get paired up.

They’re both a bit on the odd side, and he sees the way they bicker. When they first got paired together it was a bit like watching two foxes fighting over territory—Tim’s got a long list of things wrong with him that he happily brushes right under a rug, and Rachel’s got baggage heavy enough to take a man out with a single swing. He’s not even sure if they’re going to be a good team.

In fact, they seem to straight loathe each other. Tim knocks over one of Rachel’s coffees and calls it an accident and Art genuinely wonders if the boy survived several tours in the Middle East only to have his head lopped off by a woman angry enough to spit. He’s not sure if there’s just some kind of history between the two of them that he doesn’t know about, or if they plain don’t like each other for no other reason than they’re young and angry.

Then Tim takes a bullet in Lawrenceburg that day.

It’s not a bad one, all things considered. Mostly it just clipped him right under his ribs, but he still goes down hard with a hand against the wound, blood streaming between his shaking fingers, and it’s like Rachel becomes a different person entirely. All of that anger she has in her, tempered by manners and professionalism and the need to survive as a black woman in the South, narrows down into a single deadly projectile.

She caps the shooter right between his eyes, a shot Tim’s clearly impressed by even while he’s bleeding on the ground behind their squad car. Then, cool as a cucumber, she drops down onto a knee next to him, putting her gun away with the sort of casual indifference that betrays someone who just shot a man dead.

“You alive?” she asks evenly. Art can see her hand shaking. “Because you still owe me a coffee.”

Tim laughs a bit breathlessly and thunks his head against the concrete road, his eyes closing.

“I think I might owe you two.”

“Yeah,” Rachel muses, a small smile on her face. “You do. But one’s good for now.”

Well, Art figures, maybe the two of them will work something out.

Semi-connected to my previous Signing Link headcanon, Link speaks here for the first time post-Calamity and gets super self-conscious. But of course Zelda doesn’t mind and is happy that Link growing more comfortable after the events of breath of the wild

Artist note: I’m so proud of this :))) I know it’s a lot of dialogue and reading, but dialogue is grueling work for me. I’m glad with the art and for the amount of pages I made in such a relatively short time span -w- page 5 was super fun to work on. A lot of blood, sweat, and hours here... :) The backgrounds were a big bore tbh, but I finished them! Yippie!
