i've been talking abt my voltron playlists and @iveofficiallygonemad asked to hear them and i want to share with anybody who wants!! i know they're not perfect, i'm working on them & trying to make them better. if you have any recommendations for any of them, let me know!! there's like A Lot and i want to give a lil explanation for most of them, so i'm putting them under the cut ^-^

SO first i have my favorite one <3 it's just. all of them. it's the whole team. it's a mess and it's a bunch of different genres because it's them fighting over the aux cord on a road trip. it's them trying to make each other laugh or annoy each other or play something catchy enough it will infect everyone in the vicinity with brain worms.

Hunk: i'm pretty happy with my Hunk playlist! chill vibes. he strikes me as the kind of guy who listens to calm music to try to find his own calm, and that's what i got here :)

Pidge: this is messier and less cohesive than my usual playlist because frankly i think pidge would have a shit taste in music. all over the board. this is a mix of meme songs and 8-bit covers and vocaloid and stuff that i think pidge would genuinely connect with, and i think pidge listens to all their music on shuffle without any regards for genre or mood because they're a gremlin. nobody gives pidge sole control of the aux.

Coran hears 80's music for the first time and loses his mind. He thinks ABBA is humanity's single greatest achievement.

Lance: i have ideas about where I'm going with this but haven't really settled yet. Lance seems like the kind of boy that loves to dance (is that canon? i forgot) so most of these are Bops That Make You Move in some way or another. he likes to present an upbeat face to the world, so there's no angsting in this playlist! we are clinging to the things that make us happy with both hands until our knuckles turn white!

Keith: i'm gonna be honest. i made him a playlist but i honestly don't think he cares about music very much. it's very important to some people! he's just not one of them! i haven't cracked this playlist open in a while but i'm pretty sure it's full of songs that i think he would conceivably train/work out to.

Shiro: this playlist involves the dumbest headcanon i have for shiro that has just not left me alone since i first thought of it. most of the playlist reflects the fact that he had an emo phase in middle school (that one isn't a headcanon, you just have to look at him to know) but BUT there are a few songs on here that are on here because. little known fact. he also went through a Twilight phase that he told nobody about. (keith knows. keith was there.) he has the entire twilight soundtrack memorized. he moved past the story but the music stays forever. he used to daydream about slow dancing to Flightless Bird, American Mouth. the first time Coran mentions that they have to avoid a place because there's a supermassive black hole there, he has to bite his tongue in order to keep a straight face. do NOT ask me why i believe this so wholeheartedly.

Allura's playlist sucks right now. I think it's because in my heart of hearts i know that, were she on earth today, she would go fucking nuts for taylor swift. i have ambivalent feelings for taylor swift. i cannot do allura justice like this. if you see my vision and have recs as to what might actually fit her, PLEASE.

Klance: i haven't done it yet but i'm gonna go through this and sort it to be a sort of progression of their relationship, starting with the more combative Rivalry songs, then slipping into "oh shit oh shit" songs, then maybe ending on the more lighthearted purely romantic songs <3

(i have two songs in a shallura playlist which does not at all encapsulate how much i'm obsessed with them. the tiny cop inside my head is just constantly screaming at me that i'm going to get yelled at for liking shallura. i am going to kill the cop inside my head.)

Explaining myself just for myself bc I felt like I needed to... o)--( No one will read this but I have no one to rant to abt this td;lr so.

From S1, I’ve said multiple times that I’m in Voltron mostly for Sheith, that VLD isn’t usually the type of show I like to watch. I simply have a preference for dark and complicated dramas/stories. I don’t like cartoons much, actually ^^;; I’m sorry, but a show really has to grab me with its writing or characters for me to be invested in it even a little without me having a ship there. (I uh, hyperfocus on romance. . v.;; I don’t ignore plot tho I swear.. I mean if it’s objectively well written (side-eyes naruto and 500 other series)) Like Steins;Gate. FMA. Skip Beat. Inception. etc. In my case, my criticisms about the show, i.e. the pacing, were always there since S1. I don’t think I like... betrayed LM or JDS by being hurt and having such a negative outlook on this. I think my comments were fair.

Before this.

I was in the Sherlock fandom, knee-deep in TJLC (The Johnlock Conspiracy, yes, humilating, I know, but the sad thing is the real S4 that was written was so bad that we thought it unthinkable that it would be... like that trashfire). I remember near the end of an episode of S4, before the other eps aired, I really liked this one popular blogger. Pearl something. She was really good at making me feel more relieved in the bigger plan. Even though already with episode 1, I was already incredibly disappointed in the writing of S4 and regretted every time I defended S3. The sister’s storyline. Was so. Bad. There were so many plot holes. I don’t even. Pearl--She sent the message to have faith. And as a result I crashed incredibly hard, 40x worse than Shiro’s retirement. Her account ended up hacked and she went MIA. I was there through Apple Tree Yard, being sent the message that apparently two middle aged het ppl hooking up within 15 minutes of meeting and having 5 mins of bad sex that she made sound like he rocked her world but it was just so goddamn sad--and apparently sexual assault--is more valid than a canonized mlm couple. Though really, even if they did, since S3 would still be an incredible disappointment. (the cases in the wedding ep were so, so dumb) Just because even though I knew there wouldn’t be a fourth episode, I was in so much shock I just. ...I was there for the probably-troll fansite for “the lost episode” with friggin Sherlock scripts hidden in the coding. The horror stories go on.

Before that, I was in the Naruto fandom, as a hardass SasuNaru fan. Everyone getting hetmarried at the end was a real shoot in the fucking face, this coming from someone who also likes NaruHina. I. My faith in authors. I just. Yeah, that kerplunked.

I decided to give the benefit of the doubt to Isayama Hajime (Attack on Titan). I used to defend him, pointing out and believing his Imperialistic comments were mistranslated or blown out of proportion. :) Then he said the Chinese and Koreans lives were bettered because of Japanese takeover. Which I ignored because I love Eruri. I don’t care for the writing of AOT/SNK, never really had. I tried to have faith in him. And then apparently he’s now using Jewish WW2 imagery in the series in a way that’s. ........ Basically, it’s been debated whether this is anti-semitic. Idk. I’m not touching that trashfire outside of Levi remembering Erwin frames anymore. So yeah, faith in yams was DIRT. Oh, and then Erwin died. Which hurt much, much worse than this with Shiro, and would’ve hurt more even had Shiro died.

I believed in Bryan Fuller, a lot. He still supports Hannigram fanzines and literally wears shirts of them making out. He told a beautiful, dark mlm romance and I. It didn’t stop him from calling their relationship a “bromance”. He gave no explanation and I was very. Every time it felt a little no-homo’d, I bit the inside of my cheek.

I was in the Supernatural fandom, and I loved Destiel terribly so and I’m not. even. going to start.

Death Note, Piano no Mori, Sam Esmail re: Mr. Robot, goddamn Yana Toboso, Magi, X-Men, many others.

I mainly stan a pairing in the D.Gray-man fandom, and I can’t. Over many years, the mangaka has said things/put things in in a certain way that I decided to overlook. Stereotypical transphobic “okama” inserts. The novel she approved where it was said a guy’s first kiss didn’t count because it was with a guy. Um. Frankly, I didn’t like the Alma arc...... at all. I found that it was mostly tell and not show w/ Kanda and past!Alma’s romance.... and I’m just like........ he was white in his past life his was completely different... and they were lovers in their past lives but their portrayal in their present lives are only as friends? Um. ok I’m rambling and there’s a lot of stuff too but. My point is, I don’t expect anything of her anymore. I don’t hate her, I just don’t respect her as much anymore. I don’t have faith in her anymore to write the absolute best, and she proves me right in recent chapters quite a bit. I’m still quite mixed-feelings there. (Also, I know a lot of people made fun of kls for being so emotionally dependent on kl, but. I’ve been stanning Yullen since 2006. Over ten years. It is literally my life. It’s the main reason if not the only that I’m still alive. The other is my merch. Once I tomb my merch, sayounara Earth.)

I don’t expect authors to be perfect but. I think it’s reasonable for me to not be able to have faith here. Most of the times I held onto faith, it was crushed. I already had faith in that they’d return everyone to their original lions, because honestly I wanted them at each other’s side while saving the world together, in a way that I found most beautiful. I mean, the only thing that could beat that tbh is Shiro getting his own mecha, which I find unlikely. Oriande arc was done already and the white lion accepted Allura and the comic version was just a Robeast, so I found it very unlikely that he would pilot white. 

I don’t really know if this is all so childish. It’s hard to care about a lot of things when you, well, deal with dark thoughts every day, and I’m such a bad adult that before worrying over worldy issues, I can’t. even help myself. I don’t eat most days. The entire past weeks I’ve felt like passing out. Vomited on monday from nausea. major depressive disorder. been to two psych wards, the first time for a month. chronic headaches, chronic back pain... being 24 without a degree because I still haven’t finished studying the language I even need to get into the school I want mmmmmm I’m pretty worthless, man. Shipping’s my best distraction. Yes, I know it’s not healthy. But it’s either that or me being dead so.

Anyway. I’m just trying to say that I think it’s fair for me to be bitter like this. I personally think I didn’t take it very far, but. I think it’s fair that I/we’re upset.

My Top 10 Favorite Klance Fics

So, I promised this a week ago for hitting 200 followers, then thanksgiving hit and while I was at home I have gained almost 200 more followers. Welcome to all of you new beautiful people and I apologize for the delay on this and answering asks. I’m working on the asks that I have and I’m going to post them after I finish finals. So, if someone wants to ask for recommendations, do it now and I’ll answer them all in two weeks.

This list will be in reverse order so my favorite fic is on the bottom. All of these works are amazing and if you haven't seen one, I HIGHLY recommend you read them. A lot of them have been recommended on here before, but this list will contain works that are in progress because I love them so much. Well anyway, here’s my top 10 favorite klance fics. 

10) From Across the Platform | By: foxsmouler | Ongoing | 107,008 words | Mature 

On one seemingly normal day, on his commute to work, Keith notices a rather eccentric-looking guy across the way on the opposite platform, they make awkward eye-contact and suddenly everything in Keith's life changes. Keith doesn't like change.

A.K.A a story about how Keith reluctantly learns to have faith in mankind again.

Notes: 

This fic is almost entirely fluff and its the greatest when you just want something sweet instead of angst. Its a modern fic and is worth the read when you need a pick me up. A lot of the later chapters, I feel, can be read as one shots. So, if you find that you want to stop reading its easy to do. 

9) Dear Keith | By: Redjay27 | Completed | 71,995 words | Teen & Up Audiences

Keith receives a mysterious note in the mail. There's nothing written on the envelope but his name. When he reads it he learns of some guy named Lance who is writing to Keith to tell him the story of how he messed everything up. Lance is distraught after he is left all alone after his big screw up. To ease the pain, he writes a letter to a made up person...or so he thought. Keith was just a name he picked randomly but when mysterious drawings start appearing in his dorm room, depicting scenes that he's written about, he starts to think Keith might not be just a figment of his imagination.

Notes: 

I love this fic, but had one problem with it. I wasn't a big fan of the epilogue, like at all. If you read everything, but the epilogue its a fantastic piece, but because of the epilogue that's why it’s a little lower on this list. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, just didn't like that epilogue. 

8) Web of Sins | By: charlotteXOyates | Ongoing | 70,791 words | Explicit 

Stripper!Lance AU: Keith is a hardworking college student who is devoted to spending all of his time studying to become a pediatrician; so it sounds ridiculous to him when Shiro and Matt suggest he's working TOO hard. After a bit of peer pressuring, they finally convince Keith to check out a gay strip club called "The Web of Sins" in order to relieve his stress.

At first he goes just to make them happy, but upon meeting a seductive young man who just so happens to be the club's most popular stripper named Lance, he begins to get drawn into the Web. Only, Keith has no idea what sort of demons lie hidden in the twilight that is Lance's past...and he has no idea how closely they follow.

Your mistakes create a web of sins around you, and once you're too caught in it...you can never escape.

...not on your own, that is.

WARNING: This fic starts out relatively light-hearted and cute, but if you didn't look at the tags(you should ALWAYS look at the tags), let me warn you now that stuff will get significantly darker, eventually. I promise that none of the dark stuff is ever glorified; this is not a kinky story. This is a story of two boys trying to overcome the dark past, together.

Notes: 

So, this is an ongoing fic not a lot of people know about and its so flipping good. The first part just finished up, but this fic has so much potential and I just know that the author is gonna do an amazing job with this. It’s one of those really good smut with plot stories that are actually insanely good.

For generations the Ice Masters of Altea and the Fire Masters of Ko-gane had been warring over the lands that divided them until a new enemy in the west rose to power. Uncertain of their chances fighting two wars at once, a treaty is made to end the battle between Masters and have them join as allies. And what better way to become allies than through marriage. Keith trusts Prince Shiro's choice in marrying the Altean heir, and if anything was to go wrong, he has sworn to protect the third Ko prince, but the Alteans seem to be more dangerous in diplomacy than they ever were on the battlefield. Luckily, Princess Allura has a protector of her own who might be the only ally Keith has in his new home. Even if he is insufferable.

Notes: 

This is such an amazing story. It’s ongoing, but its 100% worth reading as it’s released. 

5) A Cradle of Flesh and Bone | By: bffimagine | Completed | 70,773 words | Mature

He was born with a misshapen, malformed heart. They tried to fix it, but the complications left him with the kinds of scars that meant he wasn't expected to survive until his thirtieth birthday. He's still got dreams--one day, he would be a doctor--but someone has to give up their heart for him to make it. Sure, he was sick, but he wasn't down and he certainly wasn't out for the count.

At least, not yet.

Keith chuckles softly at Lance’s faded face in the old photo. He was still a little chubby, couldn’t be more than eleven years old, but nevertheless had his arms slung over the shoulders of two pretty, giggling girls. The smug grin on his face is dazzling. Keith wonders how Lance, to this day, manages to make it look so believable.

Or, Lance and Keith have been best friends since first grade. Lance’s brain is always on overdrive and Keith’s blunt, realistic ass can never keep up. They both come to realize that sometimes you can learn a lot about loving yourself by loving someone else.

LET ME TELL YOU, you have to read this. If there is one fic that I would tell you to seriously read, its this one or Lion’s Chain. That’s all I’m gonna say, go read it and you’ll see why it’s this high on this list. You will not be disappointed.

Becoming “hook-up buddies” with Lance Sanchez was just supposed to be a small, insignificant fraction of Keith’s life. But of course, things don’t work out that way at all.

aka a Friends w/ Benefits AU that nobody asked for where Lance wears sleeveless hoodies, plays basketball in abandoned parking lots, and follows his dreams, and Keith comes from a high class, reputable family who never let him have any dreams of his own. They go home with each other and don't expect it to matter until it totally does.

This fic, my lord, I have sinned. This is easily the greatest smut with plot fic out there and at this point I’m sure many of you have read this. Honestly, I almost put it in the number two spot, but I didn’t only because I read Let Me Catch My Breath first, that is literally the only reason. It’s a modern AU with rich boy Keith and aspiring Basketball player Lance. God the heartbreak is real. Klancekorner you are the goddess of fanfiction in my eyes, keep it up. <3

2) Let Me Catch My Breath | By: Smiles4Voltron | Completed | 228,919 Words | Mature

So, Lance has to fight five champions of an alien race to save Keith- wouldn't sound too hard if he wasn't blind from an injury at that very moment. Oh, and did he mention that if he doesn't defeat the five then Keith is given to them like some prize? Some delicious little prize that they will most likely do whatever they please with?

Left to fend for themselves, blinded and injured, two unlikely Paladins must work together to survive. Tensions get high with horrid creatures, a determined assassinator, and their growing attraction to the other. So, both a frustrating tension and sexual one, huh? Or could you consider those the same thing?

Notes: 

So, this was one of my first Klance stories. I joined the fandom in like February this year and this was one of the first fics I read. Obviously it holds a special place in my heart, but it’s a beautiful piece. Its a crash landing scenario on an alien planet gone wrong in my opinion and its great. 

1) Lion’s Chain | By: Luna_Vulpes | Ongoing | 241,680 words | Teen & Up Audiences

Keith is returning from deployment overseas, officially released from duty in the military. However, his first stop back in the states isn’t the place he expected to be - the funeral of his military partner Miguel McClain. There he meets Lance, the younger brother of the fallen soldier, along with the other grieving members of the McClain family. Unsure of the next steps in his life and unable to separate his military and civilian life, Keith looks to the one place he can even consider home - the family Miguel loved and left behind.

Using group therapy, meeting new people, and becoming closer with the McClain family, Keith tries to put his life back together and live past the tragedy of losing his best friend. In turn, he grows a bond with Lance and realizes that maybe Miguel was right along - the two seemed made for each other.

Notes: 

This is my favorite fic for many reasons. The writing is beautiful, but the best part about it is the journey. The emotions this fic will make you feel and just the journey this author takes these characters on is a fantastic one. This is one of those fics I see update and I drop everything I’m doing. It’s worth the wait for each new chapter and god I just love it so much.

Giving life a little Shance (1849w)

It wasn’t that Lance was scared – he was nervous, yes, but scared was a big word. It was just that he didn’t know how to approach the topic.

It wasn’t long ago that he had realized that his admiration had turned into something else, something deeper and stronger. He liked Shiro. A lot. Maybe ‘love’ was a little too much, too early; but it was clearly leaning towards it anyway. He was okay with that. He knew and was proud to be bi, and while he certainly had a stronger preference for ladies, some guys were worth more than a glance.

But. The problems he was facing were that 1) he didn’t know if Shiro had ever thought of him that way; 2) they were usually too busy fighting aliens; and 3) even if, in the ideal case scenario, Shiro liked him back, Lance wasn’t sure how comfortable Shiro would be with physical intimacy. Not even sexual stuff, which Lance wasn’t necessarily interested in anyway. But touches, like a hand at the small of his back, hugs, kisses… Lance was used to being very physical, but he didn’t remember Shiro reaching out for contact a lot or even being at the receiving end of it very often. There had been his and Keith’s hug once but these two were familiar with each other before the whole… alien thing, so it wasn’t the same. Not to say Lance couldn’t appreciate a relationship with little contact if the intimacy and complicity were still there. But he’d much rather be all over his significant other.

Though, again, all of this was only in the best case scenario and he had yet to know what Shiro thought about him and his feelings.

However, not knowing if Shiro liked him back or if he was ready for a relationship wasn’t Lance’s main concern.

There was the whole space war stuff going on. Relationships at a time like that were probably not a good idea. It could distract them, it could make some missions harder and it might even compromise them. Lance wasn’t sure he wanted his feelings to be the reason Voltron was out of service.

But, he thought, if feelings can compromise a mission, then even just a crush can, right? So why not at least get the advantages of a relationship? Ah… but if we fight and have a bad break up, that sucks.

Lance liked to believe that neither of them would actually make it a bad break up, if a break up were to happen. Not that he wanted it to happen. On the contrary. He would very much like to stay forever happy with Shiro. He just… had to actually confess.

Lance sighed. He was getting in a weird mood again because of all of that. He hated hesitating because hesitation meant getting pessimistic about something. Which he was definitely getting.

He decided to go find Hunk. As his best friend, Hunk was more willing to listen to him complaining about his crush than Pidge. Not that Pidge knew about his crush but if she did, she probably wouldn’t want to listen to him whine about that.

Given the hour, Hunk was most likely in the kitchen, playing around with Altean ingredients. So that was where Lance headed.

And sure enough, Hunk was there. And Pidge. Pidge who was sitting on the counter in front of Hunk, pulling him closer with the hand she had on the back of his head.

“Oh.”

Hunk and Pidge jerked away from each other, startled. They looked at Lance with wide surprised eyes.

“I can come back later if I’m interrupting something,” Lance said. He had crossed his arms and quirked an eyebrow. Pidge narrowed her eyes at the grin on his face and stuck out her tongue.

“Don’t bother. I was gonna go back to my room anyway.” She jumped off the counter.

“You just wanted a first taste of the menu, huh?”

She didn’t bother gratifying Lance’s comment with a reply, preferring to walk past him quickly, and left the kitchen.

Hunk was looking around, a sheepish smile on his lips and a light blush on his cheeks. Lance walked up to him and gave him a big pat on the back. He started laughing and felt Hunk let out a nervous  breath.

“So, how long? You two hide yourselves well!”

“It hasn’t been long. Like, maybe a few days. We didn’t feel like telling everyone yet.”

“And that’s cool man. But why didn’t you tell me you liked her? With how much I whine about my crush, you could have totally shared yours!”

“Ah… I wasn’t sure. Like, seriously, feelings are hard! I have no idea how you managed to know your feelings for Shiro were romantic. If it hadn’t been for Pidge coming to me and asking me out, I wouldn’t have known! And when she did, I panicked because I wanted to kiss her and also she was looking at me like, you know when she’s determined to get something? Like that.”

“Pidge asked you out?” Lance asked, rather surprised. Pidge wasn’t exactly the most on par with her feelings usually, so this was surprising.

“She told me she was overthinking and couldn’t focus on her projects.”

“So she just went ahead and fixed her problem, eh?” Hunk snorted. “Anyway, congrats man! I’m happy for you two. Just- avoid making out everywhere if you don’t want endless teasing.”

“Yup. I know you’d have too much fun.” Hunk smiled. “Oh, did you need something? Since you came here and all.”

“I just needed a mood-lifting, I’m good now.”

Hunk tilted his head. “You sure? I’m still open to talk if you need.”

“I was just thinking.” Lance paused, then let out a snort. “Though, you did help me with that already.”

“Oh?” Hunk blinked. He tried remembering all of their conversation since Lance had come in and something clicked into place. “Oh! Is it about Shiro? Are you gonna tell him?”

“Yeah. I think I’m gonna do it.”

“What exactly are you going to do, Lance?”

Lance and Hunk nearly jumped out of their skins. They turned to look at the kitchen door and Shiro, who had just arrived. Lance’s heart felt like it was trying to jump out of his ribcage and he felt nervousness crawling back in his belly.

Shiro was still waiting for an answer, even as he walked up to the Altean version of a fridge to get a water pouch. He looked at Lance with curious eyes and peacefully sipping his water.

“I gotta go check up on something with Pidge, I’ll leave you guys alone!” Hunk said suddenly. He trotted quickly out of the kitchen, under Lance’s betrayed gaze and with a wave from Shiro.

“So? Are you gonna tell me what you were going to do?”

Shiro was smiling, mostly amused. Lance thought it was unfair that Shiro’s smile was so nice.

“Weeeell… I could tell you, but then I would have to get rid of your body somehow.” Lance replied, voice as serious as he could manage. It made Shiro snort and smile wider. Really unfair.

“Well then, guess I’d better leave you to your thing.” He turned to leave then. Lance’s heart was still beating faster than it should but there was also something else. It was like Lance’s body was trying to tell him, to shout at him that it was now or he would never find the right time ever again.

So he listened to his body.

“Shiro– wait!” Lance reached out for Shiro’s arm (his left, since the right one was holding the water pouch) and Shiro stopped to look at him. Curiosity filled his eyes and Lance thought that he really liked that look on him.

“Are you telling me?” Shiro asked. Lance let out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding in.

“Yeah… Yeah, I’m gonna tell you. I thought– I thought I’d do that in a more… in a smoother way but I guess that’ll do, heh.” Shiro faced him again completely and tilted his head, waiting for Lance to go on. Clearly he didn’t have the slightest clue he was going to be confessed to. Lance wasn’t sure whether to be happy about that. He took a deep breath, then looked at Shiro in the eyes. “I really like you– like, more than just as a friend or a fellow paladin, you know? And I just wanted to tell you because it only seemed fair and I guess I was also hoping that it’d magically work out but like, no pressure of course!” Lance’s confidence was all gone and this had been a terrible idea, oh god. He was rambling now, and wasn’t even looking at Shiro’s face or even just at Shiro in general. Why were his flirting skills only good when it was random people?

Suddenly he heard the sound of metal against the counter. He looked up, only to see Shiro wasn’t in front of him anymore. Shiro had moved to stand against the counter, hands on it and he seemed… shocked?

“… Shiro?”

“You… like me?” Shiro asked, incredulous. It sounded more like he was talking to himself than to Lance, though. Like he couldn’t believe his ears. Which given Lance’s ramblings was pretty surprising.

“I do,” Lance replied anyway, “I really do. Are you… Do you like me too?” He asked softly.

Shiro’s eyes focused on him. He looked like he didn’t know what to answer. Lance felt his heart tighten. Maybe he had assumed things too early? That would be terrible if he had. The awkwardness would be too strong, he wasn’t sure he’d survive it.

He was about to say something, anything really; but Shiro’s cheeks coloured and soon were a really pretty shade of red. Shiro was blushing. Lance felt a grin take place on his face but he couldn’t be bothered to stop it.

“You do!” Lance whooped. “You like me!”

Shiro hid his face in his hands. “Oh god. Please stop, I’m mortified enough already.”

“There’s no way I’m gonna stop, like holy shit dude! You like me!”

“I’m more surprised that you do. I didn’t think– I’ve never thought you could actually like me this way?”

“Is it because I’m always flirting with girls? God, that’s got to be it. Hunk told me it’d be my downfall someday; I didn’t think it would prevent me from scoring a hot guy like you, holy shit.” Lance was pretty sure he heard Shiro whimper after calling him a hot guy. That was interesting knowledge. But it would have to wait. “Are we like, boyfriends now?”

“If you want us to be, gladly.” Shiro finally freed his head to look again at Lance. His cheeks were still pink but he had a fond smile on his lips and Lance really wanted to kiss him.

So that was what he did. After shouting a very delighted yes.

Lips against lips, Lance felt more than he heard him when Shiro whispered “I really like you, too.”

The Dear Evan Hansen and Be More Chill boys meet Voltron

Okay so anyone who’s familiar with all three of these works will know that these boys don’t fit all nice and neat into the character archetypes/roles of the paladins so I’ll just put who pilots what lion

Black Lion --- Evan Red Lion --- Connor Blue Lion --- Michael Green Lion --- Jared Yellow Lion --- Jeremy

(I hate Sheith with a vengeance so it infuriates me to no end that the tree bros end up in Shiro and Keith’s roles but oh well)

Jared and Connor do have a Lance/Keith-type rivalry but minus the belligerent sexual tension.  Part of it stems from them both vying for Evan’s attention/favor, since Connor’s dating him but Jared’s been his friend far longer.  

The bonding moment thing does happen but the gay undertones are significantly reduced.  It’s more of a "I know we have this whole rivalry thing but I do think of you as a valuable teammate and friend and I actually care about your safety” than the gay-ass moment we all know and love.

Evan was a pilot with such impressive skill that despite his myriad anxiety issues, was sent on the ill-fated Kerberos mission.  He learned how to manage his anxiety a little better during his training for said mission, and had to completely bottle it up in order to survive the Galra gladiatorial arenas.  Now it’s all mixed up with the PTSD that resulted from his year in capture, so his flashbacks/episodes are more intense than Shiro’s.  He’s actually a pretty good leader but he has to grow into the role as instead of practically being made for it.

Jared is complicated.  If I had to give it in terms of percentages, he’s probably 65% Pidge and 35% Lance. He has a lot of the same insecurity issues as Lance in regards to his role on the team, but he does fulfill quite a bit of Pidge’s role on the team since he’s got the most tech skills.  He’s a decent strategist and a scrappy fighter but sometimes has a little too much disregard for... “collateral damage”.

Connor is basically the Keith of the group and as such is half-galra.  He’s a lot more shaken up over this than Keith was in canon though, since he’s already thought of as a freak and this just turns that up to eleven.

Evan broke his left arm during an arena battle but managed to win anyway, and the Galra were basically like “eh healing this is too much work let’s just take it off and put the robot arm on his left side instead”

Jeremy is the grounding voice of reason and the closest thing this group has to Hunk.  He’s usually the first to flip out about all the crazy alien stuff and the battle plans, but he’s also really grateful to finally be in the role of a hero who can help people, and he takes this responsibility very seriously when it comes down to it.

Michael’s probably 65% Lance and 35% Pidge.  He lacks the techy aspect of Pidge but does have the take-no-shit sense of humor. but he’s actually a very good strategist and can keep his cool in the heat of battle far better than anyone would think, despite combat not coming super naturally to him.  He and Jared make a surprisingly formidable team when put together since they’re kind of a patchwork of Lance and Pidge’s various traits.

Connor is an excellent fighter and combat just comes naturally to him, but his brashness can make him unaware of his surroundings.  And as Jared puts it, he’s a “stab first, ask questions maybe” kind of guy (though maybe not quite that bad).

Evan gets fuckin RIPPED from his time in the gladiatorial arena.  He basically ends up with something close to Shiro’s physique.  I toyed around with the idea of the Galra basically pulling one of those Captain America physical enhancement things on him (which would make him taller too) in addition to the robo-arm but I’m not sure about it.  Smol ripped Evan or tol ripped Evan... both have their merits but I think I like smol ripped Evan better because:

On one hand it’d be hilarious if Evan were suddenly like 2-3 inches taller than Connor in addition to having the muscles

But on the other hand it’d be even better if normal-height Evan could just pick up Connor like it’s nothing.

Either way Connor about has a heart attack upon seeing him for the first time and it’s fuckin priceless

When Evan started having to go through special training or whatever to prepare for the Kerberos mission, he ended up not being able to hang out with Jared a lot and the two of them eventually had a not-quite falling out over it.  It was at this point that Jared started to become friends with Jeremy and Michael, and so that’s how they become the Garrison Trio.

But do not fear for Evan and Jared’s friendship because they pretty much work out all their feelings and stuff while going to get the Green Lion.  It’s very wholesome and they’re honestly just glad to see each other so there’s not a lot of animosity, mostly just some sad bitterness over how things happened.

The tree bros weren’t dating before the Kerberos mission but Connor was internally a pining mess.  He was already wrecked enough by the fact that anxiety boy Evan was gonna have to go on a long and dangerous trip to the outer reaches of the solar system, so Evan being pronounced dead really fucked him up.

Connor got kicked out due to disciplinary issues and that issue may or may not have involved him throwing a printer/printer equivalent at Iverson (probably because he was talking badly of Evan after the Kerberos crew was pronounced dead).

The tree bros do eventually end up dating after Connor confesses his feelings to Evan when they get stranded on that geyser planet after getting ejected from the wormhole.

Not really sure what everyone’s bayard weapons would be but here’s my best take on it along with any fighting style notes

Connor - Either a spear or a sword 

He fights like Keith, unsurprisingly.  He’s fast, strong, and his determination to win is practically unmatched.  But on the flipside, he tends to get ‘tunnel vision’ during combat, making him unaware of his surroundings and leaving him vulnerable to traps/the environment.  He uses combat to work through negative emotions.  And despite his aggressive, often frightening fighting style, he prefers not to resort to outright dirty moves unless necessary.

Jared - Something like Lance’s energy rifle-- he’s also able to turn it into different types of guns, like a sniper rifle, a pistol, hell probably even a shotgun if he wants to.

He fights a lot like Pidge and is best at moderate to long-range fighting.  Scrappy, with a lot of pent-up aggression/bitterness that, like Connor, he works out through combat.  (he and Connor are more alike than either of them want to admit) Has the fewest qualms about taking dirty shots or using other morally questionable methods of subduing opponents (sucking them out of airlocks, shooting at joints, etc,) and has probably racked up an uncomfortably high body count in comparison to the others.  Some of it’s unavoidable and/or unintentional, but let’s just say the number’s higher than it should be.

Evan - He’s got his energy hand thing so he doesn’t really need the bayard (plus I just have no fucking clue) but maybe some kind of staff weapon?

He prefers to only fight if absolutely necessary, but unfortunately for this cinnamon roll fighting kinda comes with the territory of leading an interstellar war.  His fighting style tends more towards defense, only opening up when he’s about to deliver a few precise blows aimed at quickly and humanely incapacitating his opponent.  He’s got a ridiculously high pain tolerance and his stamina is a sight to behold, so he’s got no trouble waiting for the perfect time to strike.  Definitely uses the environment to his advantage and is absolutely opposed to taking dirty shots.  (He and Jared probably have a big falling out over this)

Jeremy - A cool energy bow thing

He’s a long-range fighter all the way.  Has impeccable aim and is a great team player who you can always count on to have your back.  His attitude towards resolving conflict through combat is relatively neutral-- not a blood knight but certainly not opposed to getting his hands dirty.  That said, he’s not exactly built for fighting, so he’d rather sneak around a threat or distract it than start a confrontation as a matter of practicality.  He’s really good at thinking up creative solutions to otherwise difficult problems and is surprisingly insightful when it comes to the strengths and weaknesses of allies and opponents alike.

Michael - A huge fucking battleaxe

Y’all cinnamon roll this boy so much that it might seem wildly out of character at first, (and I’m guilty of it too so don’t get your hoodies in a bunch) but lemme just point out that he canonically plays zombie survival games on a regular basis.  If you thought I was gonna give him anything other than a vaguely post-apocalyptic weapon you’re dead wrong.  Despite his zeal when it comes to the aforementioned video games though, he’s actually not all that fond of fighting. Nevertheless, he recognizes that there’s a greater good at stake here, so when push comes to shove he’s got no problem kicking ass and taking names.  He prefers close-quarters combat, but the axe’s handle can extend and retract for flexible range if necessary.  Usually prefers to wield it with two hands for added power and stability.  Great at close-range crowd control since he can swing the axe in these great, sweeping arcs that can take out several enemies at once.  He greatly emphasises force over finesse since there’s not a lot of finesse to be had with a massive fucking axe, but this also means he has the least amount of formal training and can be outmatched if pitted against a more technically skilled enemy.  An axe is also more inherently lethal than the other bayard weapons for obvious reasons (sharp and unwieldy), so this puts him in a difficult situation if he’s fighting a living being instead of a Galra sentry since he’s more likely to end up killing them.  Despite these shortcomings, he is still a capable fighter who can kick some serious butt.  And obviously he teams up with Jeremy whenever possible.  Two Player Gayme all the way.

I honestly don’t see any characters from either musical taking the place of Allura, Coran, Zarkon, etc., so I’m just gonna ignore that.  I mostly see this crossover as the BMC/DEH boys just taking the place of the paladins, along with maybe having some minor/side characters get swticharooed too (like Christine and Shay) but yeah.  Not a lot of potential there since most of the roles don’t match up all that well.

She can be swapped with Matt or something I guess?

Which means Connor takes on a bit of Pidge’s role as well with the whole searching-for-missing-family-members arc

Which if you think about their relationship actually makes it pretty feelsy since here you’ve got these siblings with a horrible but perhaps salvageable relationship when all of a sudden one of them is pronounced dead???  ALONG WITH YOUR NOT-YET-BOYFRIEND???

Haha sucks to be Connor

But then he learns that Zoe might be alive after all and he’s like “wELL FUCK I GUESS I’LL GO FIND HER THEN???” because it kinda seems like a sign that they really need to patch things up

And when Connor finally does find her he’s just so happy because he’s kind of been mulling over their past on his own and he’s realized that he was kind of a jackass.  So now he feels really remorseful about it and wants to make amends, turn over a new leaf and all, right?

But so here he is forgetting that Zoe may not have been mulling things over in the same way

And so the group finds her in some kind of galra work camp or in the gladiator cells and they’re like “holy shit zoe it’s us” and Connor’s just so happy because finally he can actually talk shit out with her

But who is she happy to see?  Who does she run towards, crying out of happiness and relief?

Evan.

Evan motherfucking Hansen.

Sure, they were on the Kerberos mission together

But he’s her own brother

And she barely even acknowledges him.  

In fact, she seems even more cold and distant than before 

probably because she’s in the mindset that “oh WOW it took getting kidnapped by a hostile alien race for my brother to start caring about me” which is a perfectly legitimate way to be viewing things but still it hurts because it’s a little too true for comfort

You can bet your bucket that Evan and Connor get into an argument over this but it’s okay because they make up and make out

But eventually they talk shit out and Zoe sees that Connor genuinely does want to make amends for how he treated her in the past, so she begrudgingly agrees to try patching things up between them

Anyhow the two of them end up with a typical snarky sibling dynamic (though at first the remarks are little biting and below-the-belt shots are somewhat common)

And if you think Zoe doesn’t take total advantage of her peanut gallery status on the comms you’re dead wrong

Evan: Alright everyone, let’s form Voltron!

Zoe: *painting her nails or some shit* kick its ass guys

And you’re even dead-wronger if you think Connor and Zoe don’t have to do the invisible electric maze exercise 

only it’s a hundred times more dysfunctional than when Lance and Keith do it in the show.

Wonderful paladin pile, and I love how they just went around the room taking turns telling Keith that he’s been adopted and he’s not going back to the desert alone. Ever.

A Little Unsteady (Hold Onto Me) by DeerstalkerDeathFrisbeeWords: 13,385 Author’s Summary: Takashi Shirogane is nine years old when he holds his brother for the first time. “I’m here,” he’d whispered to his fussing baby brother, “I’m here, I’m here, I’m here.” And Keith stopped crying. He didn’t laugh; he looked up at Shiro with big, skeptical eyes. A challenge. Like this tiny person was saying ‘oh yeah, prove it’. And Shiro, newly nine years old, promised that he’d prove it. Shiro and Keith’s childhood in moments.My Comments: Modern setting AU, but with a few tweaks I could absolutely see this working in canon-verse. It’s incredibly touching and well-written, and Shiro’s development from reluctant child to fiercely protective big brother was beautiful to watch. Both boys went through a lot of heartache, but by the end they’re together, and you know they’re going to be okay.

Closure by wolfsan11Word Count: 7,837 Author’s Summary: Between finding Pidge’s family and healing up from the final battle against Zarkon, the Paladins only think of heading home, back to Earth. Keith has a hard time with that idea and the team helps. My Comments: This is just the sweetest. Everyone needs to hug Keith and reassure him that they’re family, no matter what.

A Gift Horse by To Be or Not to- Oh forget it (Mikki)Words: 17,801 Author’s Summary: The paladins of Voltron are the universe’s only hope, and they are ready to fight against the Galra. The only problem is, they’re one short. After stumbling their way through freeing a planet however, they might just find the solution to their problem in the form of a ‘gift of gratitude’. No one is happy about it.My Comments: Tagged as slight Klance, but reads gen. Warning for abuse, including implied sexual abuse, and slavery. So yeah. Team Voltron is “given” a Keith who has been raised as a Galra and enslaved for years. And then they proceed to absolutely bungle their handling of him. But I really liked Lance doing his best to get to know Keith as a person rather than a problem to be solved, and I find the concept really interesting. This is one of those fics where I want to write the sequel, because a LOT of work is going to need to be done to get these characters anywhere near healed after something like this.

Trial by Ordeal by To Be or Not to- Oh forget it (Mikki)Words: 89,187 Author’s Summary: They’re supposed to be two sides of the same coin, or something like that. The truth is a bit more complicated. (Character study of Keith and Lance)My Comments: This is long, but absolutely worth the effort. Warning for depictions of abuse in both parts, but it’s treated realistically and respectfully. There were parts in Keith’s chapter that I had to stop reading for a while and do something else, and pretty much everything in Lance’s chapter made me ache for him and the family he left behind. But it’s really, really good. Amazingly well-written and deep and lifelike, and it all makes so much sense, for both of these characters. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long, long time.

Burning Bright by RaccoonDoomWords: 2,221 Summary: For an anon request on my tumblr: “Can you do a klance fic where Keith is sick and Lance is surprisingly good at taking care of him despite his mood swings and bouts of delirium?” Not exactly what they requested but eh close enough. At least it’s easier to be sick when you have a team than when you’re alone in the desert.My Comments: Keith doesn’t know when to ask for help, but fortunately he doesn’t have to. Lance acts exasperated, but I think he secretly likes being needed, and he’ll step in wherever he can.

My Comments: Very sad at the beginning, but well-written backstory and character study. This history for Shiro and Keith makes a lot of sense, and I loved the way Keith gradually came to accept the other paladins, too, and learn to interact with them. They have more in common than they believe at first.

An Echo of Thunder by WashiPuppyWords: 6,934 Author’s Summary: Good thing Lance has a plan. Okay, the second part of the plan had a few holes. It was a work-in-progress. Keith didn’t need to know that though.My Comments: HOLY EVERYTHING BATMAN I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH. I can’t even…I don’t want to spoil it! Just, okay, Lance and Keith are in trouble, right, and they both want to protect each other, isn’t that adorable, but THE LIONS. RED AND ALSO BLUE. Read it read it read it. If you read nothing else on the list this week, read this one. It made me SO happy. Fave. Fave of all time.

He was not prepared for an infant Keith with an ear infection, however. My Comments: I may be aro/ace, and I definitely am, but there is still a very id part of me that is EXTREMELY pleased with the image of an attractive man taking care of a baby, and this story fed that part of me in the most wonderful way. Sweet and satisfying.

Conditional Acceptance by yet_intrepidWords: 6,914 Author’s Summary: Shiro’s looking for a job. Keith, new to the Garrison, needs a tutor to be allowed to stay. He also needs a lot of other things - a decent meal plan, for one, but more importantly, a friend. My Comments: Oh, gosh, this fic broke my heart, but it’s SO good. I would happily accept this as canon. I mean, I kind of have already. Poor Keith is so scared and sad and needy, and Shiro is nervous and out of his depth but so badly wants to help. And Matt as Shiro’s roommate is amazing. I just adore this one to pieces.

What If The Storm Ends? by earthstarWords: 17,913 Author’s Summary: After the fight with Zarkon, Keith finds himself stranded alone on a strange forest planet. All hope seems lost when he gets bitten by venomous creature, but he finds aid from someone he’s not sure he can trust. My Comments: I usually avoid Galra!Keith stuff, idk why, guess I want to see what canon does first. But I am a HUGE sucker for a wise and protective adult trying to take care of a scared and needy kid, and that’s what this is. The plot is great, as well as the character interactions and development, and I would happily accept this in canon.

Standing on the Edge by LenoirWhittlethornWords: 2,901 (WIP)Author’s Summary: Keith doesn’t know how to ask for hugs. My Comments: Golly, I am just ACHING for more of this. It’s so cute and sweet and touching. Keith needs all the hugs, omg. He doesn’t know how to ask, but fortunately the others know how to give.

These Cordalians feed off of emotions, and their favorite emotion is sadness. Worse, they’ve found a way to make their victims relive their worst memories to make that pain fresh again, and Keith has a lot of terrible memories he’d rather not relive. My Comments: SO GOOD. SO MUCH PLATONIC CUDDLING. Lance and Keith are both suffering horribly, and all they can do is comfort each other and wait for rescue. I’m so happy that it’s gen, too. And it’s finished! Run, don’t walk. It’s so great.

Impractical Immune Responses by hufflepirateWords: 4,829 Author’s Summary: Keith discovers that he’s horribly allergic to something on the new planet they’ve landed on, and Coran discovers that his cryopods are completely unable to do anything about seasonal allergies. Luckily, the rest of the team has some ideas about what to do. Keith may not be good at acknowledging his weaknesses, asking for help, or letting other people take care of him, but he’s about to get a LOT of practice - enough to start surprising himself.My Comments: I really like how EVERYONE has an important role in this, all doing their best to take care of Keith and help him feel better. And Keith’s development is really lovely, as he starts off scared and distant then slowly warms up to the idea of leaning on his teammates for help. It’s a very sweet fic with a bit of depth, just how I like my h/c.

You stole a BABY?! by genericfanaticWords: 24,324 Author’s Summary:  The castle ship has a new stowaway, and Keith and Lance must figure out how to take care of them without alerting the rest of the crew. My Comments: Warning for child abuse, though it’s in the past. But yeah, this is a great angsty, h/c fic with endgame Klance but more importantly, Keith and Lance taking care of an adorable alien child. It’s well thought-out and plotted, and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
