The Severance takes in the trending tag are so dumb, like sorry y’all clearly missed the tragedy day in English class. The point is that Mark Scout and Mark S. are inherently more SIMILAR than they are different. Which is why Mark S. chooses Helly R! He’s a wife guy! His innie is gonna pick the woman HE loves, just as Mark Scout does! It’s tragic! They both are gonna lose because they are both so fundamentally MARK!

And that’s also why it’s so horrific that no one sees innies as full complex human beings deserving equal treatment. Even the viewers who are saying Mark S owed it to Gemma and/or outie Mark to go out the door with Gemma. These viewers are valuing Mark Scout over Mark S. But Mark S and Mark Scout are the same, and they are both going to choose the woman they love! They are just different women, which is why it’s tragic! Making this a shipping war or some sort of moral argument is missing the point, which is the innies are just as human as the outies and deserve freedom and autonomy too! So how beautiful that the season ends with Mark S. making a purely self-motivated and autonomous choice! And it’s so good, because it’s in direct contradiction with Mark Scout’s desires! And both Marks’ desires are valid and important, and motivated by their similarities, but it is their inherently contradictory desires that makes it tragic!
