This is a revamp of an older design I had over at @kuzuriha​, namely this design. This theme is suitable for all kinds of blog, but can also be customized to be writing-heavy friendly.

Features:

Customizable post width and font size. The live preview uses 650px posts and 13px font size. Enter the size of the post you want on the post size field and the font size on the font size field.

Four custom links.

A full width header which can be disabled or enabled. The image of your header should be the full width of your screen x 400px (w x h). For example, if your screen width is 1900 then your header image should be 1900 x 400px.

A built-in update box which comes in with 4 default rows, though provided you know how to add more rows, it can have unlimited rows. This box can also be used as whatever you want instead. Customization guide is provided below the read more.

Customizable photoset gutter. Enter the size for your photoset gutter on the photoset gutter field.

This version is focused mainly on work/masc clothing . If anyone has recommendations for more decorative/femme clothing, please share them with me so I can update the post :)

Make sure to check the version number if you see this in the wild, it may have updated!

Recommendations marked with an asterisk (*) means I have no personal experience with them, but I've heard enough good things that I added them to the list.

1. Shirts/Tops

First of all, I'm a huge whore for 100% cotton, but in theory polyester will last longer. On the other hand, polyester will last forever, seeping into fish and local blood streams for millenia to come. Second of all, if you want cool graphics then I'd highly recommend doing it yourself. I'd say the easiest options for getting reliable, long lasting graphic tees are screen printing, tie dye and vinyl decals, but this depends on what resources you have access to. Keep in mind this is for shirts that you'll (hopefully) be able to wear for over a decade since really any decent cotton tee will last a decent amount of time.

Recommendations

-ASCOLOR

These are the best blank t shirts I've found, period. Stitching is great, the fabric is thick, and from what I can tell they're slightly more inclined to ethical production than your average mass produced T-shirts. They also sell nice jackets and coats as well!

I might try out a couple of pairs of pants from them to see what's up.

Band Tees

For some reason these tend to be really solid, depending on how big the artist in question is. Usually printed on Gildan, which ain't bad. They are expensive though, which means they may not be as great of a deal

This would be the section where I talked about stuff that isn't just t shirts but idk any brands that make consistently durable examples for a good price.

2. Pants

I would recommend a maximum of 1-2% elastane if you're getting skinny jeans, otherwise it's 100% cotton denim baby. Durability decrease exponentially the higher percentage of non-denim there is.

Also, I highly recommend selvage jeans if you can afford them. They use a tighter knit and are made to be worn in.

For cargo pants, get something that's thick and has ripstip material.

Recommendations

-Levi's

The lowest in price I would go tbh. I recommend the 502s since they're 100% cotton but 511s have been a staple of the street fashion world for a while. They're skinnier jeans ain't bad either, but I feel like they're starting to hit the edge of being too thin.

-The Unbranded Brand

Focused solely on getting the price of selvage jeans down to affordable levels. Fair warning, I bought a pair of black jeans (with 1% elastane) and the formaldehyde smell still hasn't gone away. I have an indigo pair that smell fine though, and besides that they're my favorite pairs of jeans.

Now most """Tactical Apparel""" stores tend to be a bit...off, but since this is a post about durable clothing, I gotta mention the probably undiagnosed autistic guys with a special interest in manly man pants. I have a pair of 5.11 Canvas Cargo Pants and I've taken these things camping, through outdoor airsoft fields, and underground deathcore moshpits. The bastards still looked mint when I finally handed them off to my partner because my ass got too juicy to wear them and gave me a blister when I spent all morning working for a landscaper. (That job was the final straw in my anti-lawn radicalization arc btw.)

To reiterate, I would look for anything that's ripstip and not paper thin. Nylon also works but the texture sucks.

3. Shoes

Always invest in whatever goes between you and the ground. This goes for mattresses and chairs as well. And for fucks sake get something that can be resoled, and find a cobbler near you. Also look up the Sam Vines Boot Theory of Economics.

Recommendations

Vans

Unlike converse, I've only ever bought one pair. The problem with Vans is the lack of impact absorption, something that can be fixed with aftermarket inserts in theory. Old-Skools take insoles fairly well. Their ComfyCush line is aimed at fixing this problem but I haven't tried any of them. I did get a pair of Ultraranges recently and they seem decently durable, but I've yet to really start wearing into them.

Any skate shoes in general*

Theyre made to be dragged across concrete at relatively high speeds. Try to go for suede.

Solovair*

Now, I have beef with Doc Martens since they sold out, but they're still cheap, comfortable, and made out of leather, which is all you need. Anything lower and I would argue that it's too cheap. However, they can't be resoled, they're leather is kind of thin, and they definitely have a fast fashion mindset.

Solovair is a company that uses the original factories in England to make their own line of lookalikes, for a slightly higher price and slightly higher quality. I've heard their customer service is shit.

Redwing*

I have heard nothing but praise for these. I'm going to buy a pair of Supersole 2.0s once my current pair (which didn't make the list since they kinda went downhill) finally bite it.

Danner*

Another popular recommendation for leather boots.

There is a queer owned boot brand that has canvas and leather boots that are relatively cheap and have cool art but I forgot the name

3. Socks

Basically either get Darn Tough* or Point6 some decent socks from whatever brand works for you. I highly recommend merino wool hiking socks, and I just wear cotton socks during the summer.

Patagonia*

I'm still amazed they're this popular and have this much of a focus on sustainability and longevity. Their sibling, North Face, definitely fell into the consumerism pit years ago but Patagonia has still been chugging along.

Military Surplus

I feel a bit guilty for gatekeeping the specific companies I like, but if you go to the right places (eBay) you can get durable clothing for SUPER cheap. It's usually not the highest quality, but it's better than the same thing from an outlet mall.

Chrome

Mainly a bicycling brand, their bags are the kind of things that last a stupidly long time. The internals of them aren't amazing, mainly just an empty main cavity with a laptop sleeve and a smaller separate pocket, but all of their stuff is rock solid. They also have a solid warranty as well.

Swiss Army

Yes, the knife guys. They haven't changed their looks since the late 90s but their backpacks are designed amazingly well. They also have a limited lifetime warranty. I've noticed some cosmetic wear on mine after a few months of using it pretty roughly, thankfully it's just skin-deep stuff but it's also different to older examples I've seen. Definitely more suited towards carrying books and folders.

Okay so...like....I typically homebrew small house rules to make my life easier or to add a extra level of something that I think would be fun in a game. This time around I wanted to fill a good I felt was missing from 5e. And that hole was Space Clowns. So I spent a good amount of time on my notepad and spun up this lovely little setup. It's not perfect, and will probably see more balance over time if there is ever a call for it. Plus as written my Clownin can work in all kinds of games. Or at least I'd like to think they could. So please enjoy and let me know what you all think.

Clownin Dnd 5e Race V3.0

The Feywilds is a chaotic and untamed place, filled with the strange and unknown. So it’s only natural over time that humans would try and set up settlements there. Over the decades the Fey Courts took notice of this and decided, in their own way, to help the settlers fit in. They introduced them to the ways of the Wilds, from its people and culture to the stories and magic behind it. Generations later the humans found themselves changing to match their new surroundings, there was no need to stay so glum, they let their worries melt away as they focused on the bright side, and most important of all they learned to laugh and roll with the punches. Over time these humans took on a new name and title: The Clownin. Over the recent years each Clownin village (Unironically called a circus by their own people) have begun to specialize in their own form of acts, trades, and forms of comedy. The Clowns focus on their acrobatics, showing off their dexterity whenever the chance arrives. Be that on the high wires, the trapeze, or even roll and flipping around on the ground. The Jesters have and always will be the loudest and most rowdy of the bunch. They love a good joke, and they are rather dedicated to finding the best punchlines. And last but not least the Harlequins. They might be quiet but they never lack for showmanship. They love showing off their own mystical arts.

Basic Clownin Features

Age: Laughter keeps you young, at least that’s what they say. Most Clownin live for a century.

Alignment: Clownin comes in all varieties, from the good to the bad.

Size: They range from 3ft to 7ft and yet stay medium somehow.

Speed: 30ft, it’s impressive given the big shoes that some wear.

Languages: Common and Sylvan, it’s hard to survive in the wilds with anything else.

Ability Scores: 2 to one choice, 1 to another

You’re One in a Million: Clownin faces are unique, with markings that only they bare. With these unique markings it is almost impossible to disguise themselves as anything other than a Clownin. They have disadvantage on disguise checks to look normal. It is a well known taboo in most circuses for a Clownin to try and mimic another Clownin face. Most of the roguish variety take that as a cue to never get caught.

Skills: Clowns are Proficient in Acrobatics

Leaps and Bounds: The Clowns are the master of a variety of Acrobatic techniques which makes it hard for almost anyone to catch them. Up to their proficiency bonus the Clown in question can take the Tumble Action. This feature refreshes after a long rest.

The Tumble

You gain the benefits of taking the Dash and Disengage actions.

You gain a climbing speed equal to your current speed.

You take half damage from falling.

Wire Trick: In the hands of a trained clown wires are your best friend and can even be your strongest weapon. Regardless of how thin the wires are if stretched and strung out it can support your weight, and your weight only. You’re able to walk across as if it was normal terrain (In a similar fashion to spider climb). You are proficient in using wires as weapons. (Items and Stats found at the end.)

Jester Features

Skills: Proficient in Athletics and Improvised Weapons

The Great and Mighty Bonk: When the Jester hits someone with a melee attack they are able to push a target one size larger than them x2 their charisma score in feet away from them. If the target is pushed into an obstacle then add an additional d6 damage per 5 ft distance that wasn’t traveled. A Jester is able to do this a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus. It refreshes after a long rest.

It’s just a prop I swear: It’s mind over matter when you’re out in the field. And sometimes you have to stay dedicated to the bit. In the hands of a Jester Improvised Weapons have the magical property when trying to overcome resistances.

Harlequin Features

Skills: Proficient in Arcana and Simple Ranged Weapons

Tricks of the Trade: You know the Prestidigitation cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the Jump or Feather Fall. Once you cast Jump or Feather Fall with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).

Can’t Fool the Fool: Nothing is worse than a buzzkill or a heckler so you’ve found a way to get secret revenge while picking up something useful along the way. You can cast the spell Detect Thoughts once per long rest. If a creature or person is able to resist your attempts to probe deeper then they’ll be met with some sort of embarrassment or social gaff. They might loudly pass gas, unleash a thunderous burp, trip and fall, or be compelled to tell a tasteless joke.

Shopping for a Clownin can be difficult at times. It’s hard to come across the tools and tricks of the trade like you can back at home. So that’s why some of them took up the mantle as a traveling band of hucksters. To those with an untrained eye these clowns are selling trinkets at ludicrous prices. But to those in the know? It’s a treasure trove. Listed below are a list of items both common and magical that you might find in the travel store Pennymise. The GM has final say on who can or can’t use these items.

Special: Old Beebops is a +3 simple ranged weapon. It must be attuned by a Clownin of a Neutral Alignment. (Yes it has opinions but it has the opinions of a sweet old grandpa.) Has 10 charges and gains 1d4 charges back on every sunrise. (Or long rest if you happen to be traveling in space) On a successful attack roll a d4, the result will tell you what effect happens.

1: Add your proficiency score to your damage total.

2: A bunch of balloons explode from the card around the hit target causing them to have disadvantage on their next attack.

3: The closest ally may use their reaction to hit the target if they are in range. (Takes up 2 charges)

4. Regain 1 Charge and 1 HP to your character.

A classic want and need amongst the clowns. Perfect for fishing, high wire acts, and just a good old fashion smackdown.

Some Clownin like the high wire acts, others exist for it. And Knick Knack knew how to live it up with his Big Reel. The reel holds about 500 ft of wire, and when attuned to someone they can set a command word to wind or unwind the wire to a desired length. If for whatever reason the wire is cut or broken off at a section the Reel will regrow 25ft every long rest or sunrise till it’s back to its full length of 500ft. Requires a Passive Perception Score of 15 to see normally or opposed Perception vs the Wielders Sleight of Hand. When used as a weapon, wire does not give advantage on attack rolls unless it is a surprise round. Knick Knack’s Big Reel O’ Wire counts as a +2 Weapon in the hands of a Clown.

Reach (10ft), Two Handed, Finesse

Damage: 1d8 Bludgeon.

Special: You may use these wires to perform the grapple action (See the PHB for rules on grapples). While you are in control of the grapple on your turn you can use your action to tighten the wires and deal 1d4 piercing damage to the target grappled. If the target succeeds in breaking the grapple the wires two things happen. The wires break and the user loses those 10ft and must pull out another 10ft to use. And if they wish they can use their reaction to deal 1d6 Piercing damage as the wires break over the target's body.

PC Engine - Altered Beast

Those of you who know Altered Beast may remember the arcade original or the Mega Drive version which was a pack-in game for North America for a while. I never grew up with the Mega Drive version as a kid, only playing the Famicom version by Asmik. So colour me surprised when I saw there was a CD version of Altered Beast. While there is a CD version of this game on the PC Engine, a week later a HuCard version was also released.

As conversions go, this is better than I would have expected. The graphics are faithfully reproduced, with no reduction in sprite size or sprite clash/flicker. Although there is no sampled speech (aside from transformation howls) the music is great, with nice renditions of the arcade originals. Although graphically less accurate than Sega's own Mega Drive conversion, it does have a few elements that the latter lacked.

But what ruins the game (or rather the September 29 HuCard version) is its difficulty - it's stupidly hard unless you put in a lot of practice. Some of the frustration of the original can be found here - it's maddening when you are getting knocked about by an enemy on top of you with no opportunity to escape - but if you take time to learn the enemy attack patterns, then there should be a minimum of shouting at the TV. Altered Beast has always been a game that some people like and some don't. If you do, then this conversion might fill the gap, but the difficulty will drive most people away and therefore it is only recommended for the die-hard fans.

The CD version of Altered Beast is a curious thing. It sports one of the cheapest visual scenes you've seen, masquerading as a 'story' but consisting of enlarged graphics from the game and a few digitized images from existing artwork, all with a nicely blocky border. This holds one hope - it uses the original arcade music behind some voiceovers.

However, when you enter the game, the arcade music is gone to be replaced with the standard chip music straight off the card version (except for the 'Game Over' and 'Level Complete' jingle). Visually there is little difference between this and the HuCard, except the color palette has been altered slightly. There are also speech samples from the arcade which add to the authenticity a bit.

But what the CD version does have is the option for 'normal' and 'hard'. Considering the card version seems to be permanently on hard, this makes the game a tad easier to play and slightly more enjoyable too as the collision detection is more generous to the player. Sure, it's an appalling waste of the CD format, but I would just put this ahead of the card version if I had to make a choice of purchase.

Be warned, it only works when using a System Card v1.0. Using any System Card of a greater version number like, say, v2.0, v2.1 or v3.0 (v3.0 refers to the Super System Card or Arcade Card) will introduce a big problem - you can't complete the first level anymore after you turn into the werewolf. So, if you have a TurboGrafx CD (USA) System Card v2.0, or a PC Engine Duo (TurboDuo) or anything with a Super System Card built-in, it is basically broken.
