When Your Dad is a Pillar of the Universe

The world is cyclical. No matter how one tries to prevent the apocalypse, it will come eventually. And new life forms will be born from the ashes. Those lifeforms eventually will form civilizations, and those civilization will be destroyed again.

Over and over and over again.

And so, Klein Moretti, the Lord of the Mysteries, King of Space and Time, decided to sleep.

If the world is cyclical, why does he have to watch everything? His miniscule amount of humanity couldn't stand the destruction of everything he knew. Over and over again. His divinity, just felt tired and indifferent at how every civilizations just repeat their predecessor's mistakes.

So he sleeps. Following the footsteps of his fellows Great Old Ones that went to slumber long before him.

Many eons have passed. Many cycles have passed. The world keeps on expanding.

One day, 'His' conciousness was stirred. A stray soul entered 'His' divine kingdom. Half awake, the Lord of the Mysteries stretched a tentacle to grab it.

"How curious," 'He' sleepily commented.

"Your fate showed that you shouldn't be a stray. Why are you here? How do you reach this place?" This intriguing matter aroused 'His' curiousity. Slowly, 'He' started to fully awaken.

As 'He' woke up, he noticed the smidgen of taint in the stray soul. It seems to be a remnant of a curse.

"A curse it seems? A leftover curse? From the death pathway?" The Being poked at the curse remnant with 'His' tentacle.

Suddenly, the mirror at his side started to glow.

"GREAT MASTER! Welcome back!" A great amount of fireworks appeat on the mirror's surface.

"Only for a little while Arrodes. Now, could you tell me where this curse remnant on this stray come from?"

"Yes, great master!" Slowly, the words on the mirror disappear and another scene came to be.

The scene in the mirror showed 2 beings. One, a human male and the other, a white female dragon. They made a vow, and with that vow they invoke a curse.

"Ho, the curse of reincarnation and denial of peace. What an interesting curse," 'He' leaned back on his throne. Behind 'Him', 'His' tentacle played with the stray soul.

With a twitch, one of the tentacle brought the soul to 'Him'. "It seems that your original body has been stolen by that cursed person. Now, what to do with you?" The Being hmmed.

The mirror, Arrodes, flashed again. "Great master, may this humble servant give you a suggestion?"

"You may."

"Great master, why don't you let this soul be reborn in another world or planet? That way it will have another chance at life and you don't have to be bothered by it."

The Lord of the Mysteries hummed. As 'He' was thinking, he took notes of the condition of 'His' humanity. As 'He' expected, the lack of true anchor is truly detrimental for 'His' humanity.

"Yes, that is a good idea. But you are mistaken about something Arrodes. I think, I will raise this soul."

"Pardon me?"

"You are pardoned. I will raise this soul. Arrodes, which country will be the best place to raise this one?"

"Great master, the best country to raise that soul currently is South Korea. I don't think raising that soul befits your station."

"Haha, this is just my whim, Arrodes. The whim of a bored deity, you could say."

The deity slowly stood up. The soul rested in 'His' hand. With a snap, 'He' stole the curse remnant from the soul and graft it on a paper man.

'His' cane slammed down and a brilliant illusory door showed up.

"Unfortunately, a deity at my level can't directly intefere with mortal realm. But I suppose a fragment of me can do something." With that, 'He' threw the soul and some of 'His' worms of spirit into the door.

"Let's see. For that soul's name, Rok Soo would be good. Hm?"

"Is something wrong, great master?" The mirror asked.

"It seems I accidentally gave it some blessings. Ah well. I suppose I will have to stay awake to watch over them. What do you think would happen, Arrodes?"

"This humble servant thinks that they will live an interesting life, Great Master."

"Now, that is a terrible curse, Arrodes. But we'll see."

Hello, Tumblr, I am a writer, and I’ve been inspired by recent times to form an idea of a story, unfortunately I do not have the means to write it, but as my first post I would like to give the idea to the public so anyone that’s interested might take the idea as theirs, fill in the gaps, and get inspired too to make their own fiction

“How to kill the richest man alive”

I would like now to present the logic about what the main character of this yet to exist work of fiction would have to do

We all know where the richest man alive lives, The mc will just have to be in the same land, we all know which one. This is up to interpretation, if your character is from another country they’ll need an excuse, a reason to travel there. Perhaps they’re a student in a school trip, otherwise just get them a friend, as an accomplice will be needed. If your character is already in the land of interest skip this step and just give them the accomplice.

Money, the narrative needs the use of money to bring to the land. It’s a price to pay for the narrative to continue. Make the character equipped with money before the travel.

The fist step is always the gloves. If your character doesn��t use gloves since the absolute beginning the story won’t work. If they remove the gloves it won’t work. Don’t make then remove the gloves ever ever in your book.

Now, you’ll write them getting them to the place, it’s up to you to fill the details there. The character will then, of course, get the weapon to make the title of the book not clickbait. In that land is easier to get than anywhere else, so logically you’re going to write it that way, it makes more narrative sense.

But of course, the mc need to know how to use the weapon, so make them practice aim beforehand, or else that’ll be a plothole and a massive one, it can ruin the story.

Sacrifices will be needed. Make your character bald, make them shave their hair. The hair DNA is too much of a logistical issue to write around, just make your life easier as a writer and shave them. Bald is more convenient for your writing.

Now, about the clothes, because of course you gotta think about what your protagonist uses. For this story to make sense they need to use baggy clothes, clothes that they can use one on top of the other without obstructing mobility; because imagine a character that can’t move because of their clothes. A headache to write.

I’d recommend giving them three layers of clothes. And or course, logically you need to make it so the outer layer covers them entirely- simply writing logic. But not anything that would be suspicious in real life. This is fiction, but you need to write realistically. Take examples of real live. Remember that one playable character from smash bros? Whose color is green? You know him, which his oversized camper for winter and mask for the virus. Just an average civilian, just like your protagonist needs to look like.

I already say this before, but this is crucial for the story

Do not make them remove the gloves ever, or tej narrative falls apart.

Now, remember the accomplice? This is the plan for the chapter; the mc will gather with them and they’ll leave them their cellphone. You might make them buy an extra one to keep in contact, you might not, creative liberties. The secondary character needs the phone to use it, go through social media, make an aliby for their friend, or course, because a narrative is useless and boring if there’s only one character.

Now you just make them go out, the weapon on a mostly empty bag, and search for the target- you see, I don’t have the story complete, so if you wish to take over you can fill up the gaps I leave on my fiction. The richest man alive might use little human shields, but you gotta write the mc to have patience, he’ll eventually be open to strike.

Or course, be logical with your writing, the big event of the title needs to happen in a crowd, or else how would the mc blend in and escape? And of course, no dialogue, or the main character will give a way to be identified by the voice.

The big event happens, and the difficult part to write is the escape. You gotta get creative and fill in the gaps, but perhaps now the character will be in an alley, and will remove the first layer of clothes (keep. The. Gloves). They’ll store the clothes on the bag and continue walking far far far until they get a chance to remove the second layer of clothes (keep. The. Gloves), and if you wanna get fancy on your book you might write them to buy an extra change of clothes right after, it is up to you.

Act is gone, is time to write the climax. The mc comes back to the accomplice, how would they hide the evidence? Fill the details, perhaps they could pull apart the weapon and melt the pieces, burn the clothes, but that’s just an idea of mine, it’s up to you how to finish the book.

Extra points id like to make

Don’t make your character search for anything online, at least not something that’s suspicious

Dont make your character talk it ever ever to anyone except for the accomplice, because of course, that would just complicate the narrative

To keep the two characters in contact? Most social media isn’t reliable, for your story to make logical sense search for a safe alternative that would make sense outside of fiction. I’ve heard telegram is decent

But at last! I’m just giving an idea to my fellow writers, if someone wants to take it and make it a reality for a book you’re free to do it! No need to credit me, this is for all of you now, I’m just a humble writer

And of course! You can suggest ideas and changes to the concept, this is a community work for a hypothetical story that someone may or may not take to write

Let's get disclaimers out of the way. I have autism and George Armstrong Custer is one of my special interests. He's a horrible person. I do not condone anything he does. But he is really, really funny to me, and I cannot help but find him insanely interesting.

I came up with the premise to this fic about a year and a half ago when I scrolled past a badly cropped ad for a mobile RPG called Evony while browsing Tumblr. Four figures were shown on the ad: a king, a queen, a knight, and lastly, a guy who looked exactly like George Armstrong Custer. And that was funny and confusing to me; why would they put a guy who looks like Custer in this ad? How did he get there? Was he isekai'd into a fantasy world? The question plagued me. I thought it'd be funny to write that isekai and pitched the title, but it remained just an idea and a title, a thing I'd never wind up writing when I had plenty of other actually worthy ideas to get through.

Flash forward to a couple weeks ago. I've had writing block for six months. I haven't written anything I think is good in about a year. My friends and I decide to start a writing club to see if I can get back into the swing of things. That night, I get inspired. I remember this stupid ad I saw, and how funny the concept of a Custer isekai was to me. I was struck with the urge to write it. So I started. And I plowed through it. The final product is this, this bizarre, stupid little isekai I wrote.

Unfortunately, I think it's pretty good. Well, for what it's worth. I could've done more, could've fleshed it out more, but what it is is just fine to me. So here it is. I'm not doing any more with this, I'm satisfied, and with any luck I will not be struck with inspiration like this again. I was laughing the entire time I was filling out the information to publish this fic, so I hope at least you get a kick out of this somehow. A chuckle. An exhale out your nose, even.

I tried to keep it historically accurate where I could, and I tried very hard to imitate his voice in letters wherever I could. I did my best, man. I can't promise there's not historical errors, but I tried.

Also, I found out later after finishing the fic that Custer IS a playable character in Evony. It's a game about collecting different historical figures and apparently he's decent so far as characters you need not pay for go. You learn something new every day.

I don't know if there's anything to warn about. There's some blood and death. It's war. Nothing insanely graphic but it's there. This whole fic should be warned about. If you stick it out, thanks. If you can't, understandable. My friends told me this was pretty good despite its everything so they only have themselves to blame for me posting this.

ooc; update

I plan to work on what I owe to my partners this week. Hopefully tomorrow night. I have had some personal stuff going on this week, and it is, thankfully, resolved now, and I can rest easy about the safety of my great niece (whom I helped to raise for over five years so she feels like my child) and great nephew. So replies will be worked on. I won't be working on ask meme drafts until replies are written and posted.

I also plan to make a masterlist of threads with partners. I will link to it once it's finished. This way all my partners can reference it when they need to find the latest link from our thread. I won't be doing them by title. They'll be listed with the partner's username and then 1, 2, 3, etc. However, the number of threads there will depend on how many threads we have together. I plan to make it into a post instead of a page connected to my tumblr because pages are not mobile app friends.

This will be in no way a call out to partners that haven't responded in a while. It is simply a reference for both of us to look and see whose turn it is. And maybe there's a thread you've forgotten existed so this might be a reminder. It is also in no way to rush anyone into replying faster. I don't care how long it takes you to reply to a thread.

I just wanted to let you know that I won't be adding threads that are over two years old to this list until they are replied to as I feel if it's been two years that you've moved on from that thread and writing with me. 「��きた」の件

僕は外国語指導助手、つまりALTとして日本の小学校で働いていた。まぁ、実はまだそうだけど、プライベートのことやし、詳しくはやめとこう。

ある日、放課後に廊下で2人の1年生に話しかけられた。っていうか、柱でろくに隠くれていない彼らに見かけられた。

「うわ〜、英語の先生や！」

ちっちゃい声なのに、ちゃんと聞こえた。シャイで恥ずかしかったやろう。1年生だもん。僕に興味持ちそうなきっかけで、声の源を探してすぐに見つけた。好奇心が満々と光っている目に向けて、優しい笑顔で丁寧に手を振った。英語での挨拶もするところだった。いつもの習慣や。小学校1年生は外国語授業がまだ少ないけど、例外は絶対なし。僕が英語の先生というものだから、英語で挨拶することに決まっているんや。

「Hello!」

ちっちゃい声をもっかい聞こえた。勇気がある少年が一人に柱の影から出て、僕のセリフを完全に盗んだ。

「Hello!」

僕がちょっと驚いたままにセリフを取り戻した。少年がにっこり笑った。「そんなに恥ずかしくないかも…英語練習のチャンスや！」 僕は思った。最近1年生の授業はなかったから、どこまで知っているかよく知らないにしても、「How are you?」 に会話を進めようとした。

…けど、まだ遅い。

「See you!」

と、ちっちゃい声を持っている少年が恥ずかしさに負けたように、柱の影に戻って、きちんと隠った。喋りたくない英語学習者が英会話をさせられることが残酷だと思っているし、僕は追わなかった。「ちょっと勿体ないけど、しょうがないな…」と、すこしがっかりしていた僕が職員室に戻ろうとした。数歩取ったら、最後にもう一度そのちっちゃい声が聞こえた。っていうか、今回こそ大きい声がはっきり聞こえた。

「始めての英語会話できたー！」

と歓声して、2人の少年がくすくす笑いながら、運動場へノリノリに走り出した。

勿体ないと思うなんて、恥ずかしい限りやな。

Hello! I'm Drew, and as the story suggests, I live and work in Japan. I'm trying to pass the N1, and I figured a little writing practice couldn't hurt! Sorry if the grammar or phrasing is kind of a mess, I'm much better at reading Japanese than speaking or writing. Feel free to give some (gentle!) tips for improvement.

I chose the title 「今日じゃないの日記」 for this series because, ideally, it will be a bunch of random stories from my time in Japan that happened a while before today, but are meant to give the feeling of everyday life here as any 日記 would. No idea if it's a grammatically correct title, but even if it isn't, I'm sure that just adds to its charm as the blog of a Japanese L2 writer. Hopefully the stories will be interesting either way!

I like this story in particular because as an ALT you don't always necessarily feel useful or like your time is well spent, and getting deep into a second language you don't always feel like you're making progress. But I found it to be a very encouraging moment for both of these endeavors. It was something small, but it obviously meant a lot to him. If that kid can be satisfied by succeeding in one four-word conversation, then I should be happy to be able to write an entire account of it using whatever Japanese I can muster. I encourage anyone reading this to feel the same about their own studies!

I know I called it a series, but that's purely optimism. This honestly might end up being a one-off, but if not, I'll write up another one when my mood, time, and ADHD allow for it. Thanks!

NAME: Groudon, Daichi

TITLE: Continent Pokémon, God of the Earth, Legendary Pokemon (he has qualms with anything Pokemon title–he is a deity, thank you.)

JOB: He is done, alright? He made the continents. Now there are humans? And there is also that brother of his who brought unnecessary water bodies to his earth. He is tired. WHO NEEDS WATER OF THAT AMOUNT? Nothing important lives there? Why does Kyogre exist anyway? To be pain in his neck?

AGE: Here since the very beginning. Never had managed to grow up, so in human years, he would be considered early 20s.

GENDER: Genderfluid. Mostly male-presenting, but has been known both as Lady of  Land AND Lord of Ground.

PRONOUNS: mainly he/him. Depends on the day and how he presents himself. (For his family, he opts for he/him.)

ORIENTATION: He has no idea.

ETHNICITY: Japanese/Hispanic

HEIGHT: 7'4 (2.3 meters :) )

BASIC INFO

NEVER WANTED TO BE THE MIDDLE CHILD. Once upon a time, there were three super-ancient Pokemon. Well, there used to be two. Groudon had been used to that dynamic, and there comes the naive Kyogre, whose only purpose seems to be to against everything Groudon is. Groudon is a kid with an ant farm, making continents and watching the many creatures that started to live upon it. However, there is this better brother of his, making oceans and seas, taking away from where land could be.

ARGUMENTS. Groudon’s perfect world was destroyed with Kyogre’s arrival. What was wrong with only land? Groudon does not care to listen–his way had worked, and KYOGRE SHOULD LISTEN. The dinosaur and the whale had been at each other’s throats since the start.

HYPOCRISY. Groudon, unlike his siblings, found himself to close to humans. The worshippers, however, did not revere him when he showed up as a human, with disorderly clothes and brash personality. He was no different from a street thug, so he accepted that, watching humans from the side while they avoided him at all costs. 

SHAPESHIFTER. Like he shaped the continents, he could shape his form. Sometimes, he would appear as an old man, sometimes a lady, other times just a man. His from that took back then was of a child, who ended up getting semi-adopted by an old woman of a village. 

JEALOUSY. He started to experience the world and learn about the land and the sea from the human viewpoint. And, to his dismay, he learned his younger brother, Kyogre, was also walking among humans. But he was a man. And he even “loved” a human. Groudon was both worried and jealous, since he never seemed to grow up, but Kyogre… no. Marea did. Marea was everything he hoped he could be. Loved by everyone. Mature. And so naive. He argued many times for Marea to give up on this dream. And hid his own ties to the humans.

ANGER. He would still sneak to live the childhood humans lived. He would bring the sunny days and warmth for the crops so that the old woman would have enough to eat. He was learning, growing.. Until one day, over an argument that he does not even remember now, he WENT UP IN FLAMES. The flames spread to the old woman, and though the injuries were not severe, Groudon ran away and never looked back.

He went up to Marea to change his mind, to show him being with humans only caused trouble. That playing human was stupid– HOWEVER. It did not end well. Groudon was too argumentative. Brash. Loud. FURIOUS. And he tipped Marea, who caused the floods that would kill Marea’s wife. 

TRAGEDY. Groudon never knew Marea’s family as much as he should. But he grieved Suiji, and felt responsible for causing Marea such blinding, overwhelming anger. HE WOULD NEVER ADMIT IT, but he always blamed himself for the accident. So, when Kyogre/Marea went into a slumber, Groudon took his millennia long depression nap too.

hey!!!! it's not annoying at all! anyone who knows me knows that i'm always happy to help and offer advice :) your ideas are important and if you have an idea for a net then that's great!

these 'steps' / tips are really just how i prefer to do things but there's no right or wrong way so if you want to do something different then please do!

the first thing i would do is find a friend to help you, nets are sometimes hard to manage as a one-person team but it's not impossible. if it's easier to start one up without a team and find help later that's totally fine!

from there, brainstorm name ideas, i usually do a quick url check to see if something is already taken or if someone uses that tag. and figure out what type of network you'd like, if it's gonna be themed after something specific, is for a certain group, or content type, etc.

this next step is pretty important, once you've come up with a url that you like (and that looks available on tumblr), make a google account using the same user as your net name (this will be the email account you use to create a new tumblr account for your net's main blog, and also where your member application form among other important net docs will live)

like stated above, after creating a google account for your net, use that gmail to set up a new tumblr account. make sure to call your main blog 'main' so you can use the original url when making the sideblog (the main blog is how i prefer to queue)

then make a sideblog that is titled your networks name and invite your personal blog as a member, and promote yourself to an admin in the blog member's settings tab - that way you can access the net's blog without having to be signed into the net's main (if that makes sense)

then the next steps can be done in whatever order you please

make a mobile & desktop theme (graphics, colors, bios, custom blog themes, custom blog pages like for members, tags, etc.)

write out your rules, steps on how to apply (official post), a faq post (if you think it's necessary)

create your application form (i prefer google forms, which you can use the new network google account for! i've also seen people use typeform and jotform too)

make a groupchat/connecting space for network members (this is also totally your preference, you can use discord, kakaotalk, tumblr communities, etc.)

then once you feel like everything is all set up & linked, it's time to announce :)

Anyway, yes, it's bad manners to copy tags when reblogging (unless it is a pretty generic tag such as the title of a ship or fandom--like #johnlock or #StarTrek--or a word or phrase that's not terribly unique--like #fan art or #fic rec). When you reblog something, you have just put that post on YOUR blog so it's yr big chance to add YOUR tags. At the least, you can use yr own tags to search yr own blog. This is why it's sometimes good and fun to create a unique tag for certain categories you may want to find again; for instance, I tag all fan art #artists are magic!, all posts about writing #writing is easy, and all photos of Martin Freeman #THIS LIFE RUINER. Other folks have tags for queued posts, images of objects or aesthetics they're partial to, etc. Go crazy tagging yr reblogs; that's how you organise--and personalise!--yr blog.

It's also one way to share yr opinion or thoughts or squee on the post without adding to it. Hilarious, perfect, one-line text post that would only be undermined by you reblogging and adding "HA!" so that future reblogs will contain yr "HA!"? That's a great time to use the tags. Tag it #HA! or #funny or #hilarious perfect one-line text posts. Or use the tags to react in a way that will only be visible to yr followers when they see the post reblogged on yr blog (and in the notes, if anyone's looking, but I don't think many people are going through hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of notes to read random tags).

One thing unique to tumblr is that people often use the tags on their posts/reblogs to add a bunch of information or opinions, make jokes, "subtweet," or otherwise communicate about the post's content in a way only their own followers are likely to see. When I reblog something and add obviously personal statements like #I had this exact thing happen in my city and it was ridiculous and sublime, that's a tag that should never be copied onto a newly reblogged version of the post. Even if that exact thing did happen in yr city, too, and was ridiculous and sublime, in which case you can make yr own tag to communicate that.

I know the tumblr mobile app (garbage; who uses it?) used to either automatically copy all the tags from the previous blog when you reblogged, or at least offered that as an option (Terrible. Terrible option that does not reflect the way most tumblristas use tags and/or expect their own tags to be experienced).

Use yr own tags (or don't). Have fun. That's what tagging on tumblr is all about!

Welcome to Sintember

This blog is the official home of the Sintember writing challenge, an annual (hopefully!) writing challenge that takes place over the month of September. As you might suspect from the name, this challenge focuses on sin. This challenge is a place to write and share your darkest fantasies.

While the challenge is active, I will endeavor to reblog all properly submitted stories in the #sintember 2024 tag, along with any stories submitted to the blog itself, for each day. I will try to go through them twice a day during September, then once a day for the first week of October, but understand that I am just one person, and sometimes I will have other things I need to do. All of the posts will be placed in a queue in an attempt to keep submissions somewhat chronological, but this does mean that posts may not appear in the same ‘day’ that they are posted. I also live in Aotearoa so be aware of time-zones.

Submission Guidelines

Because this challenge is very nsfw, it is 18+.

If you want your story posted to the blog, either tag it as  #sintember 2024 or submit it directly to the blog. If you post the story on Archive of Our Own, you can post or submit the link. If you are posting to tumblr, please @ this blog to make sure your submission is seen!

All submissions must follow the content warning system. If you are posting/submitting a link from Ao3, the site’s tagging system can serve as your warning. Content warnings should be on the post itself at the beginning of the story, as tags for this kind of content will likely remove you from search results. Similarly, refrain from embedding any nsfw images in your submission.

You may submit art to this challenge if you like, but if you do please make sure it is underneath a read-more with the proper content warnings above it so that I can reblog them safely for everyone following the challenge.

Due to the current fandom/censorship climate, there is a reasonable chance this challenge (and its participants) could end up receiving negative attention. Please look after yourselves. Anonymous submissions are an option (either through asks or titling the submission as an anonymous one so I can see it and post it directly), and you can always make an anonymous sideblog to post your stories to if needed.

Although this is a 30 day challenge, I’m not expecting people to just belt out 30 stories in 30 days. If you need to skip days, do so. If you need to take your time, you can still submit stories ‘late’ and I will still post them. You can also start writing as soon as the prompts are live! I mean, how would I even know?

The cut-off date for each year's submissions will be July 1st the following year in order to focus and plan for the next year.

The person running this blog lives in a very early time-zone, so most references to time will be from that point of view. Submissions for days do not have to adhere to this time-zone!

Content Guidelines

If you could put it on Ao3 (pretty much if it’s legal to write), you can submit it to this challenge.

You can write both fan content and original content. Characters/themes of all identities and various diversities are welcome!

Submissions should have at least a little spice to them, either in tone, topic, or being generally taboo in nature, but they do not all have to be ‘extreme’ or even sexual.

There is no word limit or word requirement (though, one word stories might be pushing it a little). There are also no limits on style of prose, you could write a poem every day if you wanted to!

You are allowed to submit fics you have already written in the past if you want to and they fit the prompt in some way. The only limit to this is that each story should only be submitted once. An exception to this is Throwback Thursdays - where you may repeat a previous response to the post if you like.

The prompts, and the blurbs that go with them, are meant to encourage creativity, not limit it. So long as you can link the story to the prompt in your mind, even if it is the flimsiest connection ever, you’re still following the prompt. That being said, if you don’t like a day’s prompt, feel free to just make up something you like better, or feel free to skip the day entirely.

I guess with twitter falling apart, the logical step is to move back to tumblr, but I struggle with what to even post! 

Twitter is kind of the LinkedIn of game dev, for casual networking and commiserating about the seven hells of the industry, so it made sense for me to be there to make my little jokes and yell about unions. It’s also more mobile-friendly, so I could post cat pics and be on my way without a fuss. And I always used Tumblr more for fandom meta stuff, which isn’t something I really do anymore because being a narrative designer kind of changes how you engage with fandom and meta -- it starts to feel like your day job instead of your fun hobby, at least in some senses, or it uses the same type of brain energy and at the end of work you’re depleted. And it’s weird to be able to see the seams of games, and have a sense of where their budgeting and schedules and tech restraints were, in a way that completely changes your idea of what “good” is or what something “accomplished” and doesn’t always line up with the ideas of other players. It’s not a good or a bad thing, just different. I read books differently now than I used to, too. (Part of this is also about growing older and developing new neural pathways. Weird shit.) It’s interesting to think about how fandom got me into game dev (literally; the first writing sample that got me hired was fe13 fanfic with the names changed -- but also very directly through the support of the friends who read my writing for years ((often making it better with our discussions)) and encouraged me to apply and etc.) and yet game dev is kind of what keeps me from being in fandom (at least deeply). 

So I kind of had two different networks -- the twitter one of friends plus game dev peers, and the tumblr one of friends plus fandom peers, the latter of whom followed me basically for meta/fanfic/the stuff I reblogged. But friends also keep in touch on discord or other messengers, so I often wonder, what do I even post for, and why? All I really want to post about is my life, but that’s not even really a safe thing to do, and also, why do I want to, besides being a little human who likes to leave her little proofs that she was here? Like, would it be interesting to anyone here to know that I work in AAA now and the fam and I are moving to Germany soon? That’s cool news for me, but I can’t say much of anything about my work (and even the things I am allowed to say are dangerous, lmao. Telling the internet who you work for and on what game title always makes you a target. Target is doubled for every underrepresented identity that you have. But that was a LITTLE different for me in my curated twitter bubble because again, it’s more like LinkedIn on the gamedev side, and I have a small audience so my info doesn’t leave my bubble; my bubble is also small on Tumblr but feels more unfamiliar after I’ve been inactive for so long.). AAA can carry a lot more weight in the industry but it really shouldn’t (what some other VOW writers said is true: God works hard, AAA devs work harder, but mobile romance devs work hardest of all) and tbh I don’t give a shit about commercial game size--I chose this company’s offer because its team was really special (severely anti-crunch, pro-labor rights, inclusive, brilliantly skilled in storytelling and technical design and other things I want to learn from them, kind and warm). But some of you might be happy to know that I’ll finally get real health insurance and sick days and vacation time and I can’t just be randomly laid off at any time (something European game devs enjoy that US devs often do not), and it’s a huge weight off my shoulders, because you might remember how I had to struggle with that for several years. Always so much to say but so much fear around saying it. Rare to find the points where you can view your life as Back Then and Right Now in such concrete terms. Is that worth documenting?

TL;DR I want to use social media for personal things and chatting with friends but The Internet at large makes it difficult to do that. I am of course far from the only one who feels this way. That’s just the update on me while I ponder what else to contribute to this blog! I do owe you some cat pics at least.

some tips for writing blogs, especially those who are just starting out. these are some things that works for me and may or may not work for others.

how to add a read more link on mobile

type :readmore: on a free space, then hit the enter or return button

personally i think they’re very helpful because it lessens the space you take up in your dash, and might encourage more people to rb

+ you can also add this on a spot where it gives a sort of cliffhanger, essentially making people want to ‘read more’

headers, banners, and dividers

though not necessary, it’s good to have a title for your work. make sure it’s bold and doesn’t blend in with your notes (aka pairing, warnings, etc.). this also helps when someone wants to look up one of your works in your search bar

i don’t really make banners or covers for my works. but some good apps that i know of would be picsart and canva. if you’re looking for ideas, i definitely recommend going into canva

wondering how to make those really small, thin dividers? you can make them using picsart! to make a divider hit tools > free crop > brush > size (adjust it to your preference > then draw a line along the edge of your photo > save

using the divider you just saved, go back to picsart and edit it again > draw option > hit rainbow square at the bottom left corner > hit suction/droplet symbol right below the check mark > color in the white spots bc for some reason picsart glitches and makes dividers look white-ish

new blog? just opened an account?

this is gonna sound really frustrating. but... tumblr needs to check if you’re a bot or not. what does this mean? it’s likely that your first few posts won’t show up on the search bar. you may not even get to edit your header/pfp yet ://

this happened to me and there was no visibility on my account at ALL. what helped me get ‘verified’ is that i followed a LOT of accounts, liked a bunch of posts, made some posts here and there. now that lets tumblr know you’re not a bot

the tumblr tagging system usually only allows the first 5 tags in your post to show up. so, what can do you about this? only use FIVE or less tags in your post. wait about 15 minutes or more until you can add some more tags in your post, and they usually all show up like that

another important thing about using tags is not to generalize! especially if you’re using a popular tag. but also don’t specify it too much where barely anyone looks it up. for example, if you’re writing a gn piece about oikawa, i recommend you use the tags such as: oikawa x reader, haikyuu x reader, oikawa x gn!reader, haikyuu headcanons, etc

a good rule of thumb is to use character x reader tags first, then leave the full name or fandom tag last

FOR NSFW: tumblr doesn’t let any tags with nsfw show up. so, give your nsfw works another tag. maybe #namegetspicy idk, you figure it out

FOR WARNINGS: especially if you’re a dark content creator, i highly encourage you to add tw:xyz tags. if you already have a warning note at the top then that’s great. but even better for readers who prefer to actually block these tags that way they never get to see it

another important thing to note is that people have different timezones. it helps if you rb your work at a different time of the day, in case people missed it! (icymi) i’ve noticed that reblogging helps to make your post show up in the tags

interaction + feedback

first and foremost, you are not obligated to write for your followers, and neither are your followers obligated to interact with you. remember that everyone has their own individual lives, and they have their own things to do— so do you, too.

make friends! become mutuals with other writers, visit their ask box. i know it can be daunting having to initiate these things, but you might just turn out to have fun! you can’t expect people to interact with you if you’re not interacting (back). it’s... kind of a two way thing yk? no need to be afraid to interact with other writers. oh, and rb other writers works!

pspsps join tag games or do ask games. it’s fun and very interactive

it never hurts to ask for feedback. i usually do this in a more subtle way because i don’t really expect a full on analysis on my works. maybe a little, is this okay? or feedback appreciated. sometimes it takes a little bit of coaxing for the silent readers

formatting your posts and blog

i generally put in the title at the top in big, bold letters

then comes the header/divider. helps to make the post more... visually appealing ig?

it’s important to add warnings (if any) and the pairing. the audience is not all female, and it might be a little frustrating for male readers having to find out its an x fem reader piece like halfway through your fic

if you have multiple works posted, it’s really really helpful to have a navigation page!

you can organize the posts you make with tags! for example, if you’re shitposting, you can use a specific tag for that. if you have a nsfw related post (ESPECIALLY when your blog is open to the general audience) please make a tag for it

themes + colors

if you have a color in mind but don’t know which direction to go from there, i recommend looking up color + aesthetic

looking to use the same color? download a name color app that’ll give you a hex code for any color you want to use. then, you can type in that hex code for when you’re choosing a color for your tumblr bio

wondering how to make your header image small like mine? just choose a photo for your header and turn off the stretch image option

want to use a different text color that tumblr doesn’t offer? it’s not as complicated as you think. you’ll have to go on a desktop to do this and do some html (but trust me, it’s not very difficult). look up “HTML noob but trying my best - how to use colored text on desktop”

^^ i don’t have the link for the color text tutorial so you can try looking it up

how to make an aesthetic navi and masterlist

step 1: decide a theme! if you’re stuck, think about a character + color/season/mood or look up “[insert] aesthetic” to find some inspiration. or you can try looking at other blogs too

step 2: find a color scheme! it’s easier if you choose fewer colors. if you want to use the same color for both divider and text, download a color name app in order to get the hex code of that color.

step 3: add categories to your navi! most navigation pages include a link to masterlist, about/byi, and rules. your navi should have a title that indicates that it’s... a navigation page. you can add thin colored dividers with the same color to make it easier for followers to navigate

step 4: you can choose to create a ‘cover’ or a picture for your navigation and masterlist! again, i recommend you use the canva app as a starting point

extra: search up emoticon symbols to spice up your titles!

you’re not obligated to do any of these things. i’ve noticed that we tend to build pressure on ourselves when it comes to content and interaction. remember, this !! is !! for !! fun !! when you realize that it’s no longer fun, then know that it’s time to take a break. and there’s nothing wrong with a bit of self care.

Today I woke up thinking a lot about the t-shirt designed by Kaoru (2020) and how awesome it is, plus how much I like it (even though it’s white lol). I’d had the religious text used in the design ―I don’t know exactly what it’s called― for quite some time now, but I never stopped to look at it closely, so propelled by my mind I wanted to make a post. Honestly I use Tumblr to store stuff, I don’t expect to be read or to get reblogs/likes because it’s not something I’m interested in but I want to make it clear that if anyone reads this... I try to compile facts and provide sources in case someone with better knowledge can clear up any misunderstandings I write.

As part of the Artist Support Project launched by GALAXY BROAD SHOP, DIR EN GREY has just announced new T-Shirt 100% produced by the band members!

The theme of the design produced by 薫 (Guitar) is “Time”. The setlist of a live show held back in 1997, handwritten by 薫, is printed on the front of the T-shirt. The white color makes it perfect for this hot season.

If you look closely you can easily read some words/sentences in both French and Latin despite the overlapping image of the band on stage.

The text printed on the t-shirt design comes from "Office de la Semaine Sainte Latin et François, selon le missel et breviaire romain; avec l'explication des cérémonies de l'eglise, 1723 (Office of the Holy Week Latin and French, according to the missal and Roman breviary; with the explanation of the ceremonies of the church, 1723)" thanks to the translator. By the way, I don't plan to translate anything that comes from Latin/French because I don't speak those languages, but if you're interested in knowing what it says, a copy/paste into Google translator might work (that's what I did).

With that in mind, the first words/sentences that can be read in the design are the last ones in a segment called "A Matines":

If you checked the documents out of curiosity you will have noticed that they are basically scans, copy/paste did not work at all in this case to extract the text so I did it manually so, maybe, there is some typing error because some letters were ambiguous to identify, for example some F and S.

Continuing with the design, Kaoru added the setlist for June 14, 1997 at Rock May Kan ( 目黒鹿鳴館  ). He even asked on DIR MOBILE and Aknot for the setlist of that date. Here a tweet.

To keep it simple because I can't remember the exact moment (or moments) in which he spoke about this venue I have to mention that despite being a small place it has been important because of the amount of bands that have performed there. Even on January 22, 2021, according to setlist.fm, DIR EN GREY recorded there 爆音上映会『目黒鹿鳴館GIG』.

Due to the COVID crisis, last year many venues suffered financially (like many other businesses). Rock May Kan had a campaign to raise funds with the sale of merchandise and the collaboration of other artists. If you are interested you can check their twitter for more information, it is in Japanese and for the same reason I don't dare to give more information about it since I don't know the language. I must also say that I don't know the use given to the funds raised with the t-shirts designed by DIR EN GREY and I am adding this additional information about Rock May Kan because of the relation of the design made by Kaoru and the events associated to the venue last year.

Last but not least, verifying information from DIR EN GREY's official website and DIR EN GREY's WIKI (a reliable and practical source) plus adding a little guesswork....

June 14, 1997 was DIR EN GREY's first one man show (ワンマンライブ) at Rock May Kan. The day before, on June 13, 1997, a secret show titled Neo Behind The Mask took place there. However, if there is any mistake in this please tell me.

And Rock May Kan received two Kaoru t-shirt💜.

Exuse me but do you have any info on how to start a blog for writing? I just made an account but I really do enjoy writing for others (commission money would also be nice) but I have no idea how to get others to read what I put out? How do I even set up a functional blog?

New Account Issues

So you probably already noticed or know this info already but just in case, if your blog is new, your post won't appear in tags. This is because tumblr needs to verify you aren't a bot. Make sure you verify your email before anything and do some human activity (likes, reblogs, posts). When I made my second account, it took a day before I started appearing.

First Priorities - Functioning blog

1. Please. Make a masterlist and a pinned post describing all your rules for requesting. Especially the masterlist. Your future self will thank you.

2. My pinned post is long and gross so don't use it as a template but sectioning off your content (masterlist, taglist, etc) into separate posts that you can link onto your pinned post. But keep your request rules and whether your requests are open on your pinned post.

3. I'm not calling anyone out here since I don't mind it, but sometimes people won't read your pinned post or double-check if your requests are open. If you want to, in your bio, write if requests are open or not.

4. If you write or read smut, please put your age or if you're 18+ in your bio or pinned post. A lot of smut blogs will block you if you're a minor or if they think you're a minor.

5. If you plan to use banners (character portraits) in your writing. Please credit the artist. I use official genshin art because I'm lazy but please link to the artist's account/pixiv ID/or at least mention their name if you can't find either.

What now? - Starting a writing blog

1. Please. Limit the requests you take at a time. Whether you really enjoy writing or you can write really fast, please put a limit on it. You will hit burnout or get overwhelmed fast.

2. Tag correctly. This mostly applies to smut content but keep it in the smut category. Don't put it in the fluff tag or at least put a read more.

3. If your posts are long please put a "read more" tag. It helps for mobile users since scrolling can be a pain. There's no real word check but if you feel it's long, it's probably long.

4. Since you're interested in commissions, the easiest way is to set up a kofi and all your commission rules there. I usually do $1 = 100 words but stylize it to whatever your preferences are.

5. Formatting is kind of a big one that I don't see a lot of people talk about. The usual template is:

6. I've been seeing this a lot lately, but with your tag list. Sometimes you won't be able to tag people. This is usually because either 1. their blog is new or 2. tumblr machine broke. Ask them to contact support to see if their account can be mentioned. If that doesn't work, contact support yourself.

7. This is a big one because I went through it and I don't want you to experience it. At some point, if your posts don't appear in tags for whatever reason. And I'm saying at all, nothing works. You just don't appear the second you post. CONTACT SUPPORT. For me, it was a glitch on tumblr and they got my blog back but I still lost months. I'm still pissed about it.

8. I made a side account for reblogs and replying to others because I hate cluttering my main with them. You don't have to do this but it's a way for me to try and keep everything clean.

Social Interaction - Gettings others to read your work

1. There's no good or real way to get people to read what you put out, they are only going to read it if they want to and that's fine. I know that's obvious but it's something to know.

2. You can make separate accounts on other writing platforms, I know a lot of AOE and Twitter have links to their tumblr.

3. Tumblr has an algorithm so your posts will appear in the tags you add to your posts. Your post might sometimes disappear from tags after a while but don't worry. That's because tumblr has to filter a lot of users. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean another can't either.

4. Don't be afraid to make mutuals with other writing blogs. Heck, I'll be your mutual right now. At the end of the day, we're all people.

5. Write what you want to write, when you want to write it. Don't make it feel like a chore for yourself, that you need to write every day to beat that algorithm.

6. Don't be discouraged if it seems that you aren't getting attention, and that's totally fine by the way to feel like that.

7. Personally, I think brainrot is the best way to get some type of interaction. Just spit some ideas out but leave the option for others to add to it. That's how I've met most of my mutuals/anons.

8. I'm actually kind of surprised that not many tumblr's do this but I always reply to reblog comments or stuff written in the tags. You can filter your activity settings so it's easier to see everyone's replies and just talk. You'd be surprised by how many people get back to you.

Hey there! So, in case anyone is interested, I am posting the coding I did for the work skin to make my Supernatural Season 16 fic look like a screenplay on ao3! This workskin works both on mobile and on the browser and all I ask is that if you use it, you credit me (my ao3 is 2MusicLover2 and my main tumblr is @2musiclover2) and let me know that you used it (I would love to see your work!)!

This will serve as a step-by-step tutorial for how to use this workskin so that even if you have never coded or used a workskin before, you can use it! If you have used work skins before, you can just scroll down to the coding!

1. Create Work Skin

First, you need to create a new work skin. On your ao3 dashboard, go to "skins", make sure you are on the tab that says "my work skins" and then press "create work skin". I am currently doing this from mobile, so my screen may look slightly different than yours, but it should work the same.

2. Name Work Skin

Next you will need to name the work skin. For the purposes of this tutorial, I am just going to call it "Screenplay Tutorial". While you do this, you should also double check that you are creating a work skin under the "Type" drop down menu.

3. Add CSS

Here is where you will copy and paste the CSS into the CSS box. Everything you need to copy and paste is in green text below.

4. Create Fic (Or Edit Existing Fic)

Now you will want to go back to your dashboard and click on either "Post New" to create a new fic or "Edit Works" to select and existing fix to edit.

You will fill out all of the information for your fic like normal, until you get to the box labeled "Associations". In this box, you will go to the drop down menu labeled "Select A Work Skin" and select the skin that you have just created.

5. Add Text to Rich Text Box

Once you finish filling out the information for your fic, you can paste your fic into the "Rich Text" box under "Work Text".

To help format, put two spaces between the scene number and the scene for scene headers with a single digit scene number, and one space in between the scene number and the scene for scene headers with a double digit scene number. For example, with underscores in place of spaces, the first scene should be written as: "1__INT. SCENE - DAY" and the tenth scene should be written as "10_INT. SCENE - DAY".

6. Format Text

Last but most certainly not least, you will need to format the text to make sure it all looks correct. Switch to the "HTML" tab under "Work Text" and you will see the coding for the text you had just inserted. Find the code for your title, and type class="title" after the <p.

Next, find the code for your episode number, episode title, and by-lines and type class="epauth" after the <p.

Next, find any headings such as "TEASER", "ACT ONE", "END TEASER", "END OF ACT ONE", etc., and type class="act" after the <p.

Find all scene headings and type class="scene" after the <p.

Find all scene descriptions and lines such as "FADE IN" and "BLACKOUT" and type class="desc" after the <p.

Find all character tags and type class="char" after the <p.

Find all dialogue and type class="dia" after the <p.

Lastly, find all parenthetical text and type class="par" after the <p.

7. Post Your Fic!

Now you can post/preview/save your fic to see it formatted as a screenplay!
