I love waking up to my 67 year old father having a 14 year old girl style silent treatment bitchfit because he's decided overnight I'm faking my hand problems for mysterious reasons and I just love being humiliated by going to class without properly brushing my hair & also do it on purpose to, idk, screw him. Because somehow this has anything to do with him at all. I guess I need to be more understanding of his apparently grievous pain and ruin my hands even more so he can stare at my hair or whatever the fuck reason this bothers him so fucking bad.

Examples of Why I Think I Likely Have Hypermobility or EDS: A (Hopefully) Ongoing Thread
When I go to zip jackets, if the zipper is stuck and I go to pull it anyway, my fingers pop and go numb for a bit
Will experiance severe hand pain (On either hand), shift around my hand until there is a pop followed by temporary relief and then immense soreness
Wrists will suddenly pop resulting in immense pain
Rotate my torso only to have immense rib pain that makes it difficult to breath and causes me to essentially fold in on myself and have to just wait for it to go away, can begin again based on less strenuous movement at any time for at least the next day or 2
Feels like my hips or knees are twisting or ripping out of their joints sometimes when just laying in my bed
Both my pinkies bend back at least 90 degrees
Can touch both my thumbs to my forearms
Can touch my toes and would likely get further if my stomach fat didn’t get in the way
Have had multiple times where my knee popped 3 times and then had immense pain doing simple things like getting into bed or a car
Have always had to have a blanket cupping my neck when I sleep or I end up with severe neck pain
Have had doctors think I had bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome only for specialists to rule it out
If I massage my arms near my wrists it causes pins and needles to shoot out
Fingers will feel broken at times and will momentarily feel better if “popped” but then become sore
Get severe neck pain that can lead to migraines just from being upright without neck support for more than 30-40 minutes
Have weird hand cramping that doctors cannot explain as being connected to fibromyalgia or anything else they have thought was wrong with me
Tumblr media
Broke my ankle while running in new shoes at Walmart as a kid, when X-Rays were done after the cast was taken off they mentioned that it looked more like I had actually damaged the ligaments or something and then they never did anything about it again
Was constantly rolling my ankle as a child and still likely would be today I just do less so it happens less often
Bruise really easily and end up with bruises that are bigger than they should be (Which runs in the family, my mom can literally bruise her lips biting into an apple instead of cutting it up)
Flexible skin (Also runs in the family)
Both my parents and my older sister are “double-jointed”
My younger sister was informed that she had hypermobility in her hips
Have an aunt with a current fibromyalgia diagnosis who bruises easily, has flexible skin, always had a lot of allergies, etc.
Multiple other family members who show signs of increased flexibility, chronic pain, easy bruising, flexible/loose skin, chronic stomach issues, heart issues, etc.
Can feel my bones moving in bad ways
Have numerous times where I move/shift and it is like my bones clip nerves or veins or something as it causes numbness/pins and needles
Have a family full of people who do not go to the doctors unless they absolutely have to
Limbs tremble from pain while using
There are likely things I'm forgetting and will likely be things I need to add in the future but hopefully keep track here will help me in the future

Girl Was 'Thrilled' After Sexual Experience, Claims Accuser's Buddy.
I realize this seems like a blessing, but the truth is the specific opposite. Anthony Colombo, the kid of slain criminal offense family members boss Joseph Colombo, was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison as well as gotten to pay $500,000 in forefeiture and restitution for racketeering conspiracy. He invested the next 8 days lying in a medical facility bed, not able to do anything as the launch day went and came. Now two years on, he is in a connection with his mother with the pair living in Michigan in what they call 'Hereditary Sex-related Tourist attraction'. I got on pins as well as needles to review The Boss Volume 6 as well as kid did Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott deliver in spades! There is no shortage of individuals that dislike working for their employer because of their perspective. This book will certainly lure students since it offers numerous examples of good friend behavior as well as negative good friend behavior in addition to services to any kind of problems that might develop between close friends. Share the details that this employer should become her function, and also you'll become her ally as well as confidant. A partnership between a Sagittarius female as well as Sagittarius guy can grow in the sense that both will see life as one interesting journey. An ideal point to do at this point is to recognize the people that made it possible, specifically your manager. Generally it is a wonderful as well as fulfilled reading for early morning coffee to last throughout the day. When Tina began working for Kiegan, the partnership in between Kiegan as well as Tina certainly improved. Eugenie as well as Jack began dating six years earlier after they were introduced by pals in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier. Friends Disappear highlights how racial divides restricted the life opportunities of blacks while offering possibilities for whites, and uses an expert's perspective on the social techniques that administered benefits and charges based on race-- in spite of attempts to integrate. Abby and also Travi's connection is very really far from best, however the appeal in it is that they both come to be the very best versions of themselves when being together, as well as I believe that's exactly what partnerships are all about: being with somebody that motivates you to be better every day. I keep in mind when I first saw the ads for Beautiful Bastard my very first response was, 'Yay, that launches on my birthday!' promptly complied with be me taking the day off of job. While lots of public business conceal their exec settlement data in the fine print of regulatory filings, Ford simply put out a press release that described exactly what the one in charges were making in fairly basic terms. Due to the fact that both are independent by nature, the connection flourishes if neither event attempts to take control. I felt it was very strenuous, but at the exact same time I assumed it behaved that he was outdoors to fulfill a pal. Second, if you see that in charge remains in a bad mood, do not maintain harping on the wage issue. From exactly what I can inform, this concept applies for your work habits, your consuming practices, your connection behaviors, as well as virtually every other location of your life. An excellent cast of second characters included a lot light and comic alleviation my face pain after that! At the end of Like a Manager, we learnt that Penny is Theo's brand-new manager and that Dime's father and also her boyfriend Dex (Theo's sibling) just got the club. The more you learn to take responsibility for your personal feelings - learning to love yourself, value on your own, make yourself feel unique and also valued - the a lot more you might want a connection in order to share your love rather than to get love. Somehow I intuitively seemed like it had been the wrong thing to do-- even though my boss was a jackass or even though my supervisor was entirely unsuitable and even though I actually hated smelling like all-time low of a Fryolator daily when I obtained home. Minor issue, however, she's kind of with an additional individual (been on 2 dates with him), and currently Chase is her manager ... well her boss's boss to be precise. Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspoon, Gerard Butler AND ALSO Benedict Cumberbatch ... It was a full-on celeb pileup at the discussion of Hugo Boss' Employer females's collection under the new direction of artistic supervisor Jason Wu. http://fitpassion.fr has to have spent a fortune to get them all there. Cage Weatherby, nevertheless, is the true protagonist of A Friend of Mr. Lincoln, and he is a male that shows to be equally as intriguing as Lincoln during this period of Lincoln's life. Additionally - wouldn't it be nice if you recommended Boss 101 after you played it too ?!?! When he was concerning Matt's age, there's a picture at the end of the writer as well as his buddy from. I'm humbled by this experience and though I've simply shed him again, I am not crying anymore, because I know why he runs, and I understand why this needs to be. Sickness always send my love to him, yet I have my own objectives to accomplish as well as well as my life will remain to be music and attractive and deliberate with him in my heart. Program your peers that while you are a team player, you understand your duties as their boss. We suggest that since forecast is an intrapersonal procedures as well as the exchange of responsiveness in between relationship companions is an interpersonal process, both can take place at the same time. The analysis exposed having an attractive partner or sweetheart was no barrier to a connection being successful. After a handful of city walks I understood that just what a number of them were missing was any type of experience aside from a visual experience. These reactions have been separated right into 2 groups: Column two of the table notes responses with treatment with Ibuprofen tablets where the probability of a causal partnership exists: for the responses in Column three, a causal partnership with Ibuprofen tablet computers has not been developed. On November 24th there could be some responsibilities associating with others that you need to take care of. On November 25th you could determine to finish a connection or this could bring about an additional stage or phase in a relationship. I assumed it was absurd, but it made my employer pleased as well as kept him off my back. However general bosses argue that the bank is heading in the best instructions and is well placed to manage any type of economic chaos adhering to the Brexit ballot. Yet the protagonists' partnership was based highly on a sexual connection which came off as severe, sterile as well as superficial. Among the most significant difficulties for grownups that are aiming to make pals is their inner voice and also their anxiety of denial. Buddies as well as Relations adheres to the exploits of 4 rich households whose lives are transformed forever by a sizzling event. We had a great deal of friends with Logan being football captain and me being head supporter.

           Nothing can go wrong.
         Sure. Famous last words.
A large, flying creature swooped down, its screech echoing through the lava fields. We all pulled out our blasters as fast as we could and started shooting at it.
Din quickly shut the child's pod, keeping it safe from both the blasters and the weird beasts. More of them started to surround us as we continued to fire. The shots combined with their screams was deafening.
"No! Let go of her!" I could barely hear Kuiil yell. "Drop her now!"
I looked over, watching as the animal easily swept one of the blurrgs off the ground. For a moment, it seemed like they were gone. I was too hopeful.
One of Greef's hunters let out a pained scream as he, too, was lifted up in the air. Another blurrg was lifted, but Cara was lucky enough to shoot it down before it flew off.
My head was spinning with everything going on and I could faintly hear a confused yell for help behind me. Din laid on the ground, pinned by one of the flying creatures. Cara and I made quick work of shooting it off, as did Din with his flamethrower that he was so fond of. At last, they flew away for what we hoped was the last time.
We rushed over to the child, holding our guns tightly in fear of them returning. Once we knew that we were safe, we checked on the child, thankful that it was left unharmed.
Din rushed to my side and cupped my face with his hands, moving it around as he checked me for any wounds.
"Did anything happen?" He asked nervously. "Are you okay?"
He was so worried, I could hear it in his voice. A few months ago, he never would have been so willingly vulnerable. Now, it was all out on display.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." I tried to laugh it off but it came out more as a struggled breath. "Are you?"
"Better now." He breathed out and dropped his hands from my face.
Greef groaned in pain, gripping his arm as he laid on the ground. Whatever those beasts were must've done some serious damage. No matter the anger I felt towards him, I was still concerned. I didn't want him to die.
"He's hurt badly." Kuiil said as he examined the claw marks in his skin.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." He groaned. "I'm fine. I'm fine."
Cara sat beside him and drew a needle from her pack. "Hold still. They got you good." She injected the medicine in his arm, but it wasn't enough.
"How bad?" Din asked. I hid behind him, glancing anxiously as the poisoned wound.
"Bad." Cara answered simply. "The poison's spreading fast."
"So this- this is how it happens." He coughed out.
Cara rolled her eyes. "Don't be so dramatic. I need another med pack! Got any other med packs? Anyone?"
"Move." I pushed past Din and Cara, dropping to my knees next to the man I once knew as a father.
"What are you doing?" Din inquired as he neared me again.
"Something... Maybe." I shrugged and placed my hand on Greef's arm, struggling to focus my energy on the wound with all of the thoughts racing in my mind. "Come on..." I mumbled to myself.
I felt a small ease lifted off my shoulders as I worked on healing the cuts. Opening my eyes, I found the child standing next to me, his small hand resting next to mine.
"He's trying to eat me." Greef whined.
Within a matter of seconds, the wound had disappeared like it was never even there in the first place. The child fell back, the power drained from its small body for the moment. I settled back, slightly dizzy and tired, but a pair of arms caught me before I could fall.
"Myrah..." Greef whispered and watched with wide eyes as Din pulled me back to lean against his bag.
"I suppose you won't believe me if I just say I injected him with a shit ton of bacta, will you?" I smiled weakly, trying to pull him down next to me. My efforts did nothing, but he did lower himself on the ground and pushed a strand of my hair back and out of my face.
"On Arvala... When you were helping me, was that-"
I hummed in agreement and traced my fingers over his arm, smiling to myself when his muscles tensed and flexed at the sudden touch. He went quiet, clearly confused and a bit shaken up with everything that was happening. So much for keeping the secret.
After a while, I felt myself falling asleep. It had been a long time since I had used too much energy in the Force and it was wearing on me. So, I slept, drifting off into a peaceful sleep for a less than peaceful day awaiting me.
┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉
We woke up, as Greef had said, at the crack of dawn. It took Din quite a while to wake me up, according to Cara. I refused to keep my eyes open for even a minute. This wasn't even because of the Force usage, I just wanted to sleep.
With only one blurrg left, the journey was more strenuous than the first and of course, I was tired. The only thing that kept me from falling asleep right there was the occasional brush of Din's hand against mine. It sent a shock through my arm and kept me going on the trip.
But more importantly, I was just looking forward to the end. Well, sort of. Something told me that the end of this mission was going to be the end of something much larger.
"You think they're having second thoughts?" Cara asked as we watched them talk quietly amongst themselves.
"Could be." Din shrugged, finally admitting that this just might be a trap. "I need your eyes."
         She scoffed. "I'm watching."
We walked alongside Greef as we reached an overlook of the city. It was just as I remembered, but somehow even more disappointing. No one gathered in the market or swarmed the bar. They kept inside their homes in fear of the Imperials.
"I guess this is it." Greef nodded towards the village.
We stood in silence, wondering who would move first. That's when Greef spun around with blasters raised. All three of us pulled out our blasters, but none of his shots seemed to hit us.
In fact, his guns weren't even aimed towards us.
"There's something you should know." He spoke calmly and raised his blasters towards the sky. "The plan was to kill you and take the kid, but after what happened last night, I couldn't go through with it."
I wanted to believe him. I think we all did, but we kept our blasters trained on him.
"Go on." He lowered his blasters, leaving him practically defenseless if we were to shoot. "You can gun me down here and now and it wouldn't violate the Code, but if you do, this child will never be safe."
"We'll take our chances." Cara sneered.
"The Imperial client is obsessed with obtaining this asset. You tried to run, but where did it get you?"
Cara glanced over to us, keeping her voice low. "This is ridiculous."
"Perhaps you should let him speak." Kuiil said, earning a sharp glare from the dropper.
"Listen, we both need the client to be eliminated. Let me take the child to him and then you three-"
"No." Din said firmly. I agreed wholeheartedly.
"Let's just kill him and get outta here." Cara insisted.
We couldn't leave, but we couldn't let him take the child alone. There was only one way to do this and they weren't about to like it.
"He's right." I lowered my blaster, placing it in its rightful spot on my belt. Din followed my actions and lowered his. I truly did have him wrapped around my finger.
Cara looked between us, unsure. "What are you two doing?"
"So long as the Imp lives, he will continue to send hunters for the child. We can't take that chance. The kid deserves to live freely without fear of dying everywhere we go." I argued. I knew what that sort of life was like. He absolutely deserved better.
         "It's a trap!"
         "Bring me." Din spoke up.
"What?" I asked, my eyes widening in bewilderment.
         Greef huffed. "Bring you?"
"Tell him you captured me. Get me close to him and I'll kill him."
"That's a good idea..." He whispered. "Give me your blaster."
Din handed it over willingly, causing my jaw to fall slack as I stared up at him. Granted, I was defending Greef's idea but I didn't think he would take it this far.
"This is insane." Cara exclaimed, speaking my thoughts out loud.
I grasped his arm tightly, almost pleading for him not to follow through with it. "You can't actually do this."
"I have to. It's the only way." He gazed down at me, trying to pry my hand from his arm, but I kept my grip steady.
"If you're going, I'm going." I spoke firmly.
         "No-"
"I'm coming with you too." Cara agreed.
Greef shook his head. "That would make them suspicious."
         "I don't care. We're coming."
"Tell them she caught me." Din gestured towards Cara after I finally let go of his arm.
         "And Myrah?"
"I stole the child with him, tell them she caught us." I snapped.
Greef sighed. "Fine. Then she can bring the child."
"No. The kid goes back in the ship."
"But without the child, none of this works!" Greef was growing frustrated with the ever-changing plans.
"I have a plan." Din's voice was steady and affirmative. For a moment, I almost agreed with all of this. "Kuiil, ride back to the Razor Crest with the child and seal yourself in. When you're inside, engage ground security protocols. Nothing on this planet will breach those doors."
Kuiil moved closer to us and placed a small com in his hand. "Here's a com link. I will keep the child safe." He turned to Cara. "Don't forget to cover your stripes."
"Let's go." Din demanded, reaching for his pair of cuffs behind his back while I handed mine to Greef.
His gloved hands gently grasped my wrists and placed the cuffs on, adjusting them so they were tight enough to be believable, but not to where it hurt.
"Huh." I tilted my head and glanced up in his helmet. "Never thought the scenario would play out like this." His head snapped to mine with what I could only assume was a very angry glare. "I'm kidding!"
"Myrah." He scolded and turned to Greef for him to place on the cuffs. In a way, I wasn't kidding. I never thought that today would turn into this.
Once we were all settled, we journeyed our separate ways. I could see the masses of troopers around the city and my heart dropped to my stomach.
         Four stormtroopers, my ass.
"Chain code?" One of the troopers standing guard asked.
"I have a gift for the boss." Greef pointed towards us.
         "Chain code?" He asked again.
He sighed and showed them his card, allowing them to scan and analyze it. I'll give droids some credit, they never took this long.
"I'll give you twenty credits for the helmet."
Greef laughed. "Not a chance. That's going on my wall."
"On your wall?" Din softly criticized. It made it hard for me to keep back a laugh, but thankfully I managed.
"Go with it." He whispered back
We walked through the familiar alleys that were now filled with stormtroopers rather than the usual variety of passerby's that once crowded the area.
The trip was unfortunately short. I felt like this was a mistake. We should turn around and leave, but it was too late for that.
The doors emitted a soft hiss as they opened. Greef led us towards the creepy client. He looked stern and in a strange way, disappointed.
"Look what I brought you." Greef spoke and gently pushed us forward. "As promised."
"What exquisite craftsmanship." He hissed and ran his fingers over the beskar armor. I shivered, grossed out by his closeness and caresses over Din's body. "It is amazing how beautiful beskar can be when forged by its ancestral artisans."
The client turned to me with a shallow, hmph, before directing his attention to Greef. "Can I offer you a libation to celebrate the closing of our shared narrative?"
         "I would be obliged."
"Please sit." He murmured as we shuffled into the booth.
I sat on the edge with Din next to me in the middle. I was comforted knowing he was so close, but I continued to fear the worst. This could still all be a trap and now we were left defenseless and handcuffed.
"It is a shame that your people suffered so. Just as in this situation, it was all avoidable. Why did Mandalore resist our expansion?"
"Probably because you were a corrupt group with nothing to offer." I finally snapped, immediately regretting the words when I felt Din kick my shin beneath the table.
"The Empire improves every system it touches." He argued. "Judge by any metric. Safety, prosperity, trade, opportunity, peace. Compare Imperial rule to what is happening now. Look outside, little girl, is the world more peaceful since the revolution?"
I maintained his hardened stare with one of my own, piercing into his eyes. All I could feel was darkness. It was a powerful, overwhelming darkness that made my head pulse in ache. There was some greater plan here that none of us knew. I could sense it.
He continued. "I see nothing but death and chaos. I would like to see the baby."
Greef nodded and clicked his tongue as he thought. "Uh...It is asleep."
"We all will be quiet." He assured. "Open the pram."
We sat in silence, glancing between one another as we tried to communicate a new plan in silence. Luckily, one of the troopers interrupted us, sharing a secret message with the client.
"Don't think me to be rude." He stood over us, tall and terrifying. "I must take this call."
As he meandered over to the bar, Din squirmed out of the cuffs, soon helping me out of mine as well. "Give me the blasters." He whispered to Greef and began a subtle handoff of the weapons.
"You get one shot." Greef spoke under his breath.
Cara leaned down to us, her voice a harsh whisper. "This is bad. You said four."
"Well, there are more. What can I tell you?" He shrugged in typical Greef manner.
"We need to get out of here." I hissed and placed my blaster in my holster, interrupted by a shot fired through the window of the building and through the client's chest.
I looked over at Din, his blaster lowered beneath the table. If he hadn't shot, then who did?

Eggshells: Chapter 2
WORDS: 2122 CHAPTERS: 2/9 CHARACTERS: Aubrey, Kaveh CONTENT WARNINGS: Blood, insensitive medical staff
Aubrey takes one for the team. Kaveh strikes a deal.
Soundtrack: Here’s Your Two Dollars - Sincere Engineer
Tumblr media
Aubrey takes a bullet to her side during a scrap with a burglar one week later. It didn’t stop her from incapacitating the guy and keeping him pinned to the floor until backup arrived. In the whirlwind that followed, the last you saw of her was the on-call medics sedating her to get into the transport back to HQ.
You get called in two days later. Apparently she's asking for you.
She’s been getting progressively more hostile towards the medical staff and having panic attacks, the nurse explains, as he leads you to her room. She refused to speak to a psychologist, and this point, she’s stopped conversing in any meaningful way with anyone at all. The only thing they could get out of her was a request for you to visit.
The nurse shows you in and shuts the door, and then it's just you and Aubrey.
Tumblr media
You weren’t prepared for just how sad she looks. She’s curled in on herself, all pale, with bags under her eyes. She looks like she’s been crying. She glances up at you as you enter, but says nothing.
"Hi." You force a little smile and tentatively circle around to the chair beside her bed, where you take a seat. "Good to see you’re still with us. How are you feeling?"
"Bad," she answers flatly, sniffing and all but confirming your suspicion of her crying. You almost don't know where to go next.
"They told me you've been having a rough time," you say, finally. "Is it something I can help with?"
She looks, not at you, but through you for a few moments. You wait patiently for her answer.
"What you said," she says, eventually. "About the support stuff."
"Yeah?"
"I think--I think I want that." She sniffs again and wipes at her face. "But I don’t know where I’m supposed to… go. How to do it."
"Okay. Well, one thing at a time. We can work on that when you're out of here. That said, if you need psych support, that’ll move a lot quicker if they give you a preliminary assessment in here."
"I don't want to speak to them."
"You'll have to, at some point."
"I know. But not right now. I don't want to speak to them while I'm here. I want to go home."
"Okay." She has her reasons. "Did they tell you when you can leave?"
"No. They kept touching me when I told them not to and then they tried to make me talk to the psychologist. I said I didn't want to, and they wouldn't leave me alone until I asked them to call you." Jesus Christ. Okay. You need to have some stern words with someone.
"Do you want me to find out when you can leave?" you offer, and she nods, sinking a little lower against the back of the bed and pulling the sheets up over herself. "Okay. I'll be back in a minute."
The second the door shuts behind you you let the veneer fall, grit your teeth and rake your hands down your face. You're pissed that they pushed her around like this. You're pissed that nobody who knows better has done anything about it. This shouldn't have happened.
You only have to walk about ten feet before you spot a nurse. "Hey," you call out, flagging them down with one hand. "You know this patient--Aubrey? Aubrey Still? Who's been looking after her? Because they all owe her an apology." You get the feeling from the nervous look on the elf's face that you're looking at one of those people right now. "Apparently she was being manhandled without consent. Is that true?"
"She was being aggressive--"
"Because people were ignoring her boundaries? Because the situation was triggering for her?" Maybe you weren’t here to see it, but you suspect you’re hitting the mark. "We should know better than that here. When is she going to be medically fit to leave?"
"Caring for her necessitates physical contact. If she would just speak to the psychologist--"
"Are you serious right now?"
"She needs to be seen. I'm not at liberty to discuss the intricacies of the matter, but her behaviour since she was admitted has been concerning. It warrants an assessment, for her own benefit."
"She got shot not even two days ago! This can't wait until she's recovered? Let her get back on her feet, and then we can worry about behaviour. When can she leave?"
Tumblr media
It's at times like this your height really comes in handy, because the nurse looks distinctly unsettled as you loom over them.
"I'll--I'll ask the doctor to check on her as soon as possible."
"Thank you." Stepping away, you don't break eye contact until you cross the threshold back into Aubrey's room and the door puts a solid barrier between the two of you.
"Well," you say to Aubrey as you take up your position back in the chair, "I don't know when you're going to be able to leave, but they're going to send someone to check on you, so I guess we'll find out then." Her eyes widen and she ducks a little lower under the sheets. "They won't--They won't treat you like they did before. I promise. I spoke to someone about it. I'm sorry you had to go through that."
She looks at you like she doesn't know what to do with the apology you just handed her. Eventually, she emerges from underneath the blanket.
"Can you stay here?"
"While they check you?"
"Yeah."
"If you want me to." She nods quickly. "Okay. I'll stay. You know they’re going to have to touch you, though, right?”
She looks away, nods slowly, and falls silent again until the doctor arrives, flanked by the same guilty-looking nurse you accosted twenty minutes ago. All emotion evaporates from Aubrey’s face as the doctor looks her over, checks on the wound in her side. From where you're sitting, it looks sore, but it's clean and well-stitched and on questioning, Aubrey denies being in much pain. There's something about her in this state that's unsettling. Robotic, you would say, if it didn't feel like an inappropriate word choice. Like she's going through the motions of something she's forced herself through a hundred times before.
“Can we try taking some bloods again?” The doctor looks expectantly at Aubrey, who hesitates, but then nods, reluctantly unfastening the top of her gown to expose the veins near her shoulder, as the nurse busies themself preparing a syringe from the trolley they carted in along with them. “Okay. Just relax, this time. It’ll only take a few seconds.”
Aubrey barely flinches when the needle pierces the vein. It is over and done with in a matter of seconds, the tiny pinprick of blood that remains covered with a little blue band-aid, which in turn disappears back under her gown as she re-fastens it at the collar.
“Excellent. Okay. We’ll need to check in a couple more times over the next few days, but if everything’s coming back clean, and you’re still healing well, we can talk about discharging you then. You will need someone to help you out at home, though. You’re not going to be able to do anything strenuous. You probably won’t want to, either. You’re going to be sore for a while, even with painkillers. We’ll give you a full discharge plan closer to the time.”
Tumblr media
"And the psychology assessment?" You narrow your eyes at the doctor as he glances over at you. "It can wait until she's recovered some, yes?"
"...We can postpone it, for now," he replies, looking just as uncomfortable under your gaze as the nurse did, and turning to address Aubrey again instead. "Someone might have to come and ask you one or two questions as part of your debrief, but we can discuss arranging the full assessment for some time after you've been discharged." Aubrey nods wordlessly. An awkward silence hangs in the air, finally broken when the doctor clears his throat.
“Well, we’ll get these bloods off to the lab, and with any luck, you’ll be out of here ASAP.” Aubrey nods, again, and watches as the nurse de-gloves and they and the doctor exit the room. As soon as the door clicks shut, Aubrey slumps back against the bed and sighs heavily, clenching and unclenching her fists as she stares up at the ceiling.
"Well," you say, "I think that went okay."
"Yeah." She nods slightly and closes her eyes. "I'm not going to be able to work for a while, am I?"
"Not until you pass the health exams, no."
"Did I fuck up?"
The question is so uncharacteristically transparent that it throws you off for a moment.
"Did you--What?"
"I was stupid and I let myself get shot, and now I’m gonna be stuck, doing nothing, just--being useless to everyone."
"Woah, woah, woah, slow down, there." You’re a fraction of a second from reaching out to take her hand before remembering her thing about being touched. "You didn't fuck up. It's okay. These things happen. We all have to be prepared for it.
"But I could have avoided it. I should have avoided it."
"Maybe, but that doesn't matter, now. We can't change what happened. You’ll learn from it, like we all do. There's no point beating yourself up about it, okay? Just rest up, and make sure you're at 100% before you come back." That... raises a question in your mind. "Are you--Do you live with anyone? You shouldn't strain yourself while you’re recovering."
"No."
You suck in a breath through your teeth. "Well, they might want to keep you here longer, then."
"No." Her eyes snap open and she sits up to look at you, a pained look flashing across her face briefly as she moves. "I'm not staying here. Don't let them keep me here. Please."
Tumblr media
"Do you have any friends you could stay with?"
"No."
"Family?"
"No."
"Nobody that could stay with you? Nobody to help at all?"
"No."
“Then… you’re gonna have to stay.” You shrug helplessly. “They won’t let you go until you can look after yourself.”
“No. I’m not staying any longer than I have to.”
“Well, you’re gonna have to.”
“No. Please. There’s gotta be something--” She falters, there, tripping over the rest of whatever it is she wanted to say. You’re already flipping through a list of potential solutions in your head; unfortunately, they’re few and far between. There’s just one that stands out as the most viable.
You breathe in, hold it, and then exhale hard. You can’t believe you’re doing this. You really are your parents’ child.
"Okay. How about this: you can stay with me for a little while. Just until you’re good to go home on your own."
Aubrey’s expression changes immediately, though not quite in the way you’d expect; the fear is clouded over by suspicion.
Tumblr media
"What's the catch?"
"No catch. I just want to make sure you're safe. It's either that, you stay here, or you go home alone and risk hurting yourself again. We already know option two is off the table, and I don't like option three. Neither will you, if you tear something and land yourself back in here."
She stares at you for a bit, like she's trying to figure out where the lie is or like she's waiting for you to drop the act. But she can't, and you don't, and eventually she falls back against the bed, defeated.
"Okay. Fine. As long as I can get some things from home first."
"Of course."
She looks down, fiddling with a lock of hair between her fingers, and then back up at you, after a few seconds.
"Can you come and see me again? While I'm still in here?"
"As long as I have time, sure." You nod firmly. “I’ll let you know. And if there’s anything you need, anything you want, just let me know. I’ll see what I can do.”
“Yeah. Okay. Her eyes slip shut, and her whole body heaves with a deep sigh. "Look, I'm… tired. I'm gonna try and sleep for a bit."
"Should I go, if you want to sleep?" She nods, and you rise from the chair. "Okay. I'll see you later. You know how to get hold of me. Really, if anything comes up, if the doctors get shitty with you again, tell me. I'll come and talk to them."
"Okay," she murmurs. You shoot her one last look over your shoulder as you make for the door. You almost don't want to leave her; all of a sudden, you feel so very, very protective of her.

"I'll talk to you later, Aubrey."

The 3 Best Yoga Poses for Sciatica Pain
Traditional health practitioners have known for a long time that Yoga is good for you. Modern medicine agrees. Yoga is great for people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s easy to get started, you can do it almost anywhere, and you don’t need a lot of expensive equipment. It burns calories and strengthens muscles. And it feels great! Yoga can also help with stress, arthritis, diabetes, heart health, bones and joints, and digestion. But did you know it can also help your sciatica?
Yoga for Sciatica Pain and Discomfort
According to The Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine (2005), a person has a forty percent chance of developing sciatica. Sciatica is pain along the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. We all have one running up the back of each leg. Sciatic pain occurs in the lower back or legs, usually on one side. It can be a burning or tingling sensation. You might also feel fatigue, numbness, pinching, burning, or “pins and needles” in your legs or feet. It can be worse when you bend over. Your knees might buckle when you stand up. Treatment can be unpleasant.
In Roman times, they used leeches and hot coals, for example. Today’s medicine uses creams, injections, and, in some cases, surgery. But targeted Yoga exercises can help without invasive or painful treatments.
What Causes Sciatica? What are the sciatic symptoms?
Two main causes of sciatic pain are a herniated or bulging disc, and piriformis syndrome. It’s important to know which one is causing your pain because the Yoga exercises are different for each. A doctor can help you to figure out the cause of your sciatica. A doctor can also help you decide if Yoga is right for your specific back pain.

Discs are the cushions between the vertebrae of the spine. They have a soft, jelly-like center, and a tougher outside. Sometimes the outside will tear, and some of the softer inside matter will push out. When it does, it can press up against the sciatic nerve and irritate it. Most herniated discs occur in the lumbar, or lower back, area. This is why they can cause sciatic pain. If a herniated disc is causing your sciatica, you may feel pain in your buttocks, leg or foot. The pain may take the form of numbness, tingling, or weakness.
Piriformis syndrome is caused when the piriformis muscle spasms. The piriformis muscle is located deep in the buttocks, behind the gluteus maximus. If piriformis syndrome is causing your sciatica, you may feel a dull ache in one buttock. You may also feel pain down the back of one thigh, in the calf or in the foot. It might hurt when you walk up stairs or uphill, or stand up after sitting a while. This is the most common cause of sciatica, and it’s no wonder. One estimate says Americans spend nearly 21 hours a day in a sedentary position — sitting or lying down. That’s not natural, and it’s not good for our bodies. Muscular complaints like piriformis spasms can be one way our bodies are telling us to get up and move.
How can Yoga Help your Sciatica (and lower to mid back pain)?
Yoga can help back pain in several different ways. Certain exercises strengthen your core and muscles, so your back can support you better. Yoga also increases flexibility and helps tight muscles to relax. And it improves your balance and posture so that you’re more likely to hold yourself in a position that’s natural for your body. If you have a herniated disc, Yoga can relieve pressure on the disc and relax the muscles of the spine. If you have piriformis syndrome, Yoga can stretch and relax the piriformis muscle to relieve spasms.
The #1 Yoga Position for a Herniated disc.
Since a herniated disc can be quite a serious problem, and may even require surgery, it’s important to speak to a doctor before starting Yoga or any other exercise program. A doctor can let you know what kinds of movements will be helpful, and what kind can harm you. It’s also important never to do any movement that increases your pain.
I can savasana like a boss – how about you?
There are over one hundred different types of Yoga. Livestrong recommends three kinds, in particular, for a herniated disc: Hatha Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, and Viniyoga. Hatha Yoga is gentle and slow. Students hold the different poses for extended periods of time. Iyengar Yoga emphasizes correct alignment of the muscles and spine for each position and makes use of different props like blocks and bands. Viniyoga adapts the Yoga practice to the individual needs of the student. If you have a herniated disc, it’s important to avoid positions that round the back or focus only on the abdominal muscles. Certain kinds of twists can also make pain from a herniated disc worse.
NOTE: Here's another article all about the ‘Savasana' – aka corpse pose.
Many practitioners recommend corpse pose as part of Yogic treatment for a herniated disc. Corpse pose begins by sitting down, then gradually easing yourself down until you’re lying flat on your back. Slowly, reach your arms toward the ceiling, perpendicular to the floor. Slowly rock from side to side, then release your arms to the floor. Work on softening and relaxing all parts of the body: the joints, the muscles, everything. Yoga Journal has a helpful video that demonstrates this pose.
youtube
Yoga Journal recommends doing corpse pose for five minutes out of every thirty minutes of your practice.
It may look very simple, but Yoga Journal calls corpse pose one of the most challenging of all the poses. According to physical therapist Julie Gudmastad, corpse pose can help you to safely progress to a forward bend. It also helps to relax the muscles of the back, which can ease pain from a herniated disc.
The following video shows you how to do the Corpse pose, which is the best yoga post for relieving sciatica pain.

Two Great Yoga Poses for Piriformis Syndrome
The piriformis is one of the hip flexor muscles. The hip flexors are responsible for moving your hips and legs through their natural range of motion. We use our hip flexors for bending, running, and kicking. Hip flexors also help to stabilize the joints of the hips and lower body. It’s no wonder, if something is off with your hip flexors, that your whole body may feel out of alignment.
Gently stretching, lengthening and strengthening the piriformis muscle can help to ease pain caused by spasms. The seated half spinal twist encourages the piriformis to lengthen and release. It’s a gentle stretch of your entire back and feels amazing. You can watch Yoga Journal’s video explaining this pose here.
youtube
Another excellent pose for piriformis syndrome is the standing hamstring stretch. This pose gently stretches your lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. This is a simple stretch. Just stand to face a chair and place your heel on the seat. With your leg straight in front of you, bend slowly and gently forward over your leg.The following video shows you how to do the standing hamstring stretch.
youtube
Any exercise that gives the hip flexors a good stretch can help with sciatica pain caused by spasms of the piriformis. here provide 15 additional stretches for the hip flexors that you might find helpful. These include the half kneeling hip flexor stretch, the seated straddle stretch, and more.
What is Therapeutic Yoga?
Many health problems stem from improper alignment of the body, like slouching in a chair for hours at a time. Our sedentary lifestyle doesn’t help. Yoga strengthens the muscles, improves posture, increases flexibility, burns calories, and eases stress. Yoga has been shown to help numerous specific health complaints, including joint and muscle pain, insomnia, heart rhythm disorder, high blood pressure, and more.
There are so many different Yoga styles, each with its own focus and type of movement. Some, like Ashtanga Yoga, is very fast and strenuous. Others, like Hatha Yoga, are slow and gentle. Power Yoga is very intense and muscular, while restorative Yoga’s motto is “less work, more relaxation.” It’s important to choose a style that works for you — and which is compatible with any injuries or limitations you might have.
You might also look into therapeutic Yoga.
Therapeutic Yoga is an individualized Yoga practice with a specialized instructor, tailored to your specific medical needs. Yoga Therapists are professional instructors who are certified to provide Yoga therapy for specific medical conditions. A good place to search for a certified Yoga therapist is The International Association of Yoga Therapists.
The International Association of Yoga Therapists certified instructors, accredits Yoga therapy programs and helps to promote Yoga as a therapeutic practice.
In conclusion…
Again, consult your doctor — not only because your doctor can help you decide what kind of Yoga is best for your pain. Many health plans will cover Yoga therapy and other complementary medicine if your physician agrees you would benefit from it.
Yoga can be a powerful tool for combating sciatica and other kinds of back pain without medicine or other invasive treatments. Even better, it can stop some physical problems before they begin. Especially if those problems are related to stress or bodily alignment. But it’s important to pick the right exercises — exercises that will help, not harm. Before you get started, make sure you understand what is causing your pain. And always consult your doctor before starting any kind of exercise or therapeutic program.
