Once again, I’m doing silly stuff instead of, like, working. This time I made a list of some of my fav Hungarian movies, because... why not? That being said, these are not high-brow movies, like Son of Saul (I get that it won an Oscar, but it takes away your will to live). These are all silly, feel-good comedies, nothing more.
Valami Amerika (Kind of America): Tamás makes a living of directing TV ads and music videos, but dreams of making feature films--he has already written a script, titled the Guilty City, however, he has no funds to make it. But then he gets an e-mail from an American producer who would be interested in financing the project--or at least half of it, as long as Tamás manages to put together the other half. From this moment, Tamás and his brothers, the sex-addict businessman Ákos and the family black sheep András face a two-fold task: get the money together and entertain the visiting producer. There are two sequels--the second movie might be even better than the first one, while the third has some good jokes, but overall misses the point--, but I cannot talk about those without spoiling the first movie.
Magyar Vándor (Hungarian Wanderer): now this is the movie that is great if you're familiar with Hungary, but hella confusing if you're not :D In 896, the seven Hungarian tribes arrive at the Carpathian Basin, and right away have a great party. The next morning the seven chieftains wake up with a hell of a hangover--only to realize that all the Hungarians are gone. And so ensues a sketch comedy-like adventure where the chieftains gallop through time and space, from the middle ages to the 20th century, to find the lost Hungarians, while interacting with the biggest names and intruding the biggest moments of Hungarian history.
Macskafogó (literally Cat Catcher or Cat Trap, known as Cat City): in this animated movie antropomorphic cats keep antropomorhic mice in terror. However, the mice cannot take it anymore, and send their best agent (who claims to be a distant descendant of Mickey Mouse) to Pokyo to retrieve the plans of something that promises to neutralize the cat-threat. Of course, the cats won't let him just do it. Maffia tropes and sideplots galore.
Hófehér (Lietrally "Snow White," but in Hungarian the fairytale character is named HófehérKE, with a dimunitive at the end): animated satire of the classic fairytale, where the queen's wish goes sideways and Snow White ends up... less than the most beautiful in the land. Full of crazy kings, ambitious ladies in waiting, pervy hunters, shortsighted princes, and some dwarves who just want a break.
A miniszter félrelép ("The Minister Cheats," adapted from Ray Cooney's play "Out of Order"): Classic comedy of errols. Successful government politician is having an affair with a young and gorgeous secretary of the opposition party in the prestigious Astoria hotel while the parliament is in the middle of a night session. The night would be perfect, if not for the the dead body that shows up in their room--a P.I. sent by the secretary's husband. Now they just have to get the body out of the hotel without a scandal.
Meseautó (Fairytale Car): Haughty CEO falls in love with one of his employees at first sight--only to learn that he had just fired her unwittingly. Knowing that he cannot approach her now, he and his equally wealthy friend devise a scheme where they enter the girl's parents into a pretend radio contest, which they "win." The prize is a convertible for a week, with a driver, for their daughter--the driver being, of course, the CEO himself.
Hippolyt, a lakáj (Hyppolit, the Buttler)*: A nouvo riche family decides that they need to become more posh, and the way to that is to hire a buttler. The said buttler, Hippolyt, has served ambassadors before, and is a stickler for etiquette, which makes the whole family chafe under his "rule."
Made in Hungária: Semi-biographical musical of the youth of musician Miklós Fenyő. Miki's family spent the last couple of years in the USA, but now they had to return to the socialist Hungary of the 60s, where everything that is from The West is suspect. Still, Miki is determined to bring rock'n'roll to Budapest, even if he has to stick it to the authorities.
*These movies have a classic version from the 1930s, and a remake from 1999/2000. I admit, I’ve only seen the remakes.

Italy's most prolific author, a stupid post by me
Note: my translation of the book titles might be bullshit
So here in Italy we have the Geronimo Stilton books (a pseudonym created by an author, Elisabetta Dami, but then used by like a hundred different authors)
Basically there's this fictional island populated by antropomorphic mice and we all pretend that this thing is real and one of these mice, Geronimo Stilton is a famous journalist and acclaimed author of children books (or well "reportage" books in which he tells his adventures)
So there are other mice characters who have their spin off novels or who write novels themselves and it's a real mess, like if you count all the books that are canonically part of this universe you get like two hundred books if not more. Now, another weird thing is that some books have mice as characters but others have human or at least humanoid characters and it's confusing.
These books are insanely popular. Like real nostalgia stuff. Everyone I know has at least one Geronimo Stilton book. The children section of our bookshops are filled with these books. We have a Geronimo Stilton cartoon series, comics and figurines.
So the most popular books are the Geronimo Stilton "classics" :
his "everyday" adventures
the "voyage in the kingdom of fantasy" series (famous for an insane amount of characters, cool character designs and those special pages that you can smell).
the "travel through history" series
(all of these are famous for the funny artsy fonts)
But there are also others, like the mistery series about the detective "Ficcanaso Squitt" or a lot of specials about holidays (I had one about valentines day for some reason, it was embarrassing) and many others. Seriously this world is full of characters (yes all mice), but most are awesome (like Geronimo's nephew Benjamin, what an adorable kid)
Then there's the "girls' books" (I put this in quotes because no one actually genderised these books, no one cared, we read everything): the Tea Stilton books.
Tea Stilton would be Geronimo Stilton's badass sister. She's a mouse and an author too (and she rides a motorcycle, it's not really relevant, but Geronimo constantly brings it up so I'm doing it too) and her books are also insanely popular.
She has two main series:
The "Tea sisters" series, which is about a group of girl friends from all over the world solving misteries and doing all sort of amazing things (probably a mile stone for every wlw girl in this country)
The "Princesses of the kingdom of fantasy" series, which is about five princesses who are sisters (but for some reason they are almost all of different ethnicity) who live in separate awesome kingdoms and they are all awesome (this is also probably a mile stone for every wlw girl of this country, well it was for me okay?)
Now, I would like to point out that the Geronimo Stilton "voyage in the kingdom of fantasy" series has also a lot of amazing female characters, some of which might have been important for the wlw girls of this country (I'm looking at you Alys, princess of the Silver Dragons Kingdom)
Anyway the Geronimo Stilton books are weird and amazing and nostalgic and I will always love them very much, but the Stilton Universe (not an official name, just made it up) has a confusing lore and set up and yeah...
(about the "we pretend this is real" thing, I'm not joking. I never discussed this with my friends, but I think that we don't believe in any of that stuff, but we still pretend there's actually an island populated by antropomorphic mice because Geronimo Stilton must be real. It's like pretending the Fairy Oak books' village is real.)

"Happy easter day ! (pause on sundays, and notsureifIcould monday) and remember to hide them on your house, not on parks... è_é Stay at Home !! I hat a easter inked illustration waiting to be colorized, since 5 years now, but I lost it.... Enough with missing this event each year, I completelly rushed another one today ! As I'm trying to go back to the little antropomorphic mice and other rodent's based adventure story (you saw pieces passing on the insta) that was the good moment to check what kind of style I could go to... This, in case it's not understandable, is a magician bunny that make eggs appear from his sleeves instead of pigeons. Okay, why not ! _____ #alcoholpen #markers #artist #frenchartist #art #illustration #oc #myoc #easter #easterday #pâques #lundidepaques #easterbunny #bunny #magician #magicianbunny #lapin #lapindepaques #eggs #eastereggs https://www.instagram.com/p/B-2YY2IBBGJ/?igshid=swvdft2san5j
