How are you taking the news about Kevin?
It hit me like a ton of bricks, even if it is not a big surprise it still hits.
Especially because I will most likely never see him irl in F1.
i have avoided talking about this because i wanted to write a long post about it, but the more i think about it, the more i feel like it's the right time for him to say goodbye to f1. so I'll keep it short and sweet, and use matt bishop's words about k-mag.
among the many drivers with whom i have worked in my long f1 career, magnussen is without doubt the most passionately besotted with racing for racing’s sake. moreover, having tried my best to cheer him up in what was for him an annus horribilis, 2015, when he was bored and frustrated in the role of mclaren’s f1 reserve driver, i fervently hope that he does not agree to take on the kind of quasi-managerial role to which komatsu has apparently alluded. let’s be blunt. kevin is an old-school racer. as i say, his racing hero is stirling moss, who retired 30 years before he was born. many times, over a coffee or a beer, i have held his rapt attention by reeling off the stories i know so well and love so much, about antonio ascari, tazio nuvolari, achille varzi, bernd rosemeyer, rudolf caracciola, b bira, alberto ascari, juan manuel fangio, stirling moss, jim clark, graham hill, jackie stewart, jochen rindt, ronnie peterson, james hunt, carlos reutemann, mario andretti, gilles villeneuve, ayrton senna, michael schumacher, mika hakkinen, and many more. he absolutely loves all that. by contrast the only aspect of 21st-century f1 that he genuinely enjoys is the bit in the cockpit, even though he has raced a podium-worthy f1 car only once, in his first ever grand prix, since when he has started 175 more, the highlights being four fifth places.
k-mag is a racing driver, not just a f1 driver. i'm tired of seeing him struggle in a car that can sometimes make it to the points, while he sacrifices so much time with his girls. i want him to retire from f1, and go dominate in another racing series that allows him more freedom to be at home as well. i don't want him to take on an advisor role, at least not if that keeps him from racing.
kevin made his f1 debut 10 years ago, and he has a podium and a pole, despite being in a backmarker car for most of his f1 career. while i will miss him during the f1 weekends, i'd be happy to cheer for him wherever he goes next. he will always be a racing driver before he's a f1 driver.

what has been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
F1 Academy will have their own Netflix show with Reese Witherspoon
Courtney Crone joined F1 Academy this weekend as a wildcard entry for QVC
Ruth Buscombe joined F1TV experts for the rest of the season as she serves her gardening leave
Newey has been set aside from the RBR F1 project with immediate effect, he will focus on their hypercar project after Miami to avoid access to any information about 2025 and especially 2026 car prospects
reports of James Vowles meeting with Adrian Newey before Miami appeared, so some journals are speculating about him going to Williams in the future
rumours about Jonathan Wheatley possibly leaving RBR, which have been reported by a few journals, were denied by RBR
Pierre Waché signed a new contract expiring at the end of 2028 with RBR according to Racingnews365 (they say he signed a contract in 2023 but in the recent news and destabilization of the team, he extended this February)
12 members of US Congress wrote an open letter to Liberty Media over the lack of clarity over failed Andretti F1 entry and they are referencing Sherman Antitrust Act
Guenther Steiner is suing Haas for profit, which they owe him for using his image in promotional material
McLaren announced eBay as another official partner of the team
Ferrari Museum is now listed on Airbnb among "icons", the package includes VIP tickets for Imola with Marc Gene, dinner at Cavallino, private tour of Ferrari Museum, hot lap at Fiorano and a sleepover in a bed directly in the museum
Ferrari will bring their biggest upgrade package so far this season in Imola during the next GP
as a part of events remembering Senna and Ratzensberger, Seb Vettel will driver Senna's 1993 McLaren MP4/8 during the race weekend
Netflix posted a teaser for a new short Senna series
Spanish media (or Antonio Lobato specifically) speculated that Carlos Sainz has denied the Audi offer to which Carlos responded that he is still in talks with multiple teams
Valtteri Bottas' race engineer was fire before Miami without any previous discussion with Valtteri - it is a part of the structural changes before the team becomes Audi (probably also considering drivers, because he also said he is talking to teams and has options to stay in F1)
FIA confirmed they received the official request to allow Kimi Antonelli to race before he turns 18 and the voting process will follow, because multiple parties have to make up a decision which demands a rule change
Kimi Antonelli and Mick Schumacher will test W13 in Silverstone for a direct comparison of the two, James Vowles denied Kimi will be driving in Logan's car in Imola in an interview with Lawrence Baretto and then Williams representative spoke to Will Buxton and said they will not be commenting on driver contracts at this time
Fernando Alonso wants to meet up with Ben Sulayem over harsh penalties for Spanish drivers
Aston Martin's right to review the penalty from China has been dismissed (TLDR they submitted a new angle but the evidence wasn't deemed as substantial and new)
after F1 commission postponed the decision over a possible rule change to award 12 point positions instead of just 10, they will now evaluate 20 scored positions instead
stewards asked for a rule change after Kevin's track terrorism this whole weekend lmao
Alpine's upgrades for Imola put them to the weight limit for the first time this season (congrats Este on the singular point)
Lewis drove W12 in New York as a part of the WhatsApp partnership, which also saw the app changing red formula emoji to Mercedes colors

Macau GP 70th Anniversary
YOU. YEAH YOU READING THIS. This is me trying to pursued you to go watch the Macau GP this weekend. This track is historic and legendary. And one of the most fun and dangerous street circuits (imo) with tight corners and varying elevations. It is still the oldest (active) street circuit that still holds F3 (+other races) and isn't part of the F1 World Championship (the other being New Zealand🤝)
Since it’s the 70th anniversary and they are holding two wholeass race weekends with a BANGER entry list this year (full list at the end of the post), so why not take a trip down memory lane and talk about some iconic races and drivers throughout the years. [LONG POST, just saying][Also, surprises underneath]
Macau Grand Prix, Guia Circuit (or Circuito da Guia)—a circuit that spans 6.120km, with different elevations over 30 meters top to bottom (in non-metric terms: 2 small pine trees, or 2 volleyball courts for all non-metric people out there👍). Top speed: 260km/h for an F3 car, which is already a handful. This circuit has had little to no changes since the beginning of its grand opening. While this track serves as a stepping stone for drivers, it remains an independent circuit and race of its own. Though still having an affiliate with the FIA.
Although the first race event began in 1954, they didn’t introduce F3 until 1983. Which they had a strong start for F3 with the likes of Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, respectively taking first and third place.
youtube
A few years later; Eddie Irvine, Damon Hill, Jean Alesi also left their marks on this race track.
But the most iconic moment came in 1990. The battle of Schumacher vs Hakkinen. The beginning of their motor rivalry.
youtube
Schumi took first place while Mika unfortunately crashed out at the back of Schumi’s car.
Jenson Button (a literal child) in 1999, second place. God works hard but those mechanics work even harder
youtube
In 2003-2004, both Lewis and Nico took part, whilst Lewis took pole and they both showed great results in qualifying. Neither of them went on to podium in both years.
2005: baby Seb starting to shine through and took third at the main race, just behind Kubica
youtube
They put a baby in a fast car
2009: Daniel, Valtteri, and Jules took the challenge. Jules started near the back end of the grid but was steady racing and finished 10th. Valtteri started 4th, had the opportunity to be on podium until he got a puncture on the last lap that saw him finish fifth. Daniel-not the best start- clipped the wall and punctured his left rear, carried on a little bit more until he crashed out of the race :( can’t find any video cuz apparently no one cared enough about 2009
2011: Valtteri’s third year in a row; the previous got him third place but this one he retired the car on lap 4 due to an accident. Kmag, da Costa, Carlos participated but all in all, half the grid retired in the end.
youtube
Pre-mustache Bottas and baby redbull Carlos
Bloop! 2014: a wild baby Max appears! Boy had good results in qualifying, placing him third, but in the quali race he lost control and crashed. Main race-7th. Nick Cassidy, Nicki Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alex Palou finished 3rd, 5th, 12th and 16th. Unfortunately, Antonio Fuoco and Estie Bestie retired :(
youtube
Yes, Max did get the fastest lap
2015: Everybody’s favourite! Charles Leclerc has entered the ring. Charlie’s aggressive attack led him to second place and on that podium. Giovinazzi-4th, Lance Stroll-8th, Nick Cassidy-12th and following close behind, my boy, Alexander Albon-13th
youtube
The race was that good even FIA had to post it on their channel lol
youtube
The infamous onboard camera
2016: we see the introduction of George Russell, Landon Norris, Callum Ilott, Guanyu Zhou and Ticktum (But we’re not gonna talk about him🤭). It was an okay race, António Félix da Costa took first (came 9th in the recent WEC👏) and Nikita crashed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That year gave us baby Lando and baby George who took his first pole *surprise🎉*
2017: A fucking great racing year, Lando came second due to Habsburg and Sette Câmara crashing out in the final corner. It’s Mick’s first year, though not the best result but did manage to snatch the fastest lap 💨
youtube
2018: it was a scary ass race and I remember standing in front of the TV just watching this. Lisboa corner is famously know for a lot of accidents, Sophia Flörsch made contact with another that send her airborne and crashed into the barriers and fractured her vertebrae. Final standing: Mick-5th, Ilott-7th, Schwartzman-9th, Zhou-11th, Vesti-15th
I’m not gonna post the video, you can go look it up if you’re interested
2019: a lot more familiar faces: Richard Verschoor, Jüri Vips (yeah that one), Logan Sargeant, Callum Ilott came back for another year, Liam Lawson with his bestie Yuki Tsunoda, Enzo Fittipaldi, Max Fewtrell🫡, David Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich, Schwartzman’s second attempt and Sophia Flörsch
youtube
3 years of absence and we are back! 2023!
This year there’s two whole weekends, from 11-12th November and 16-19th November. And they’ve a banger list of drivers like Bianca Bustamante for F4 and Richard Verschoor taking another stab at it.
Macau F4 race is happening on the 11-12th:
Tumblr media
F4 is happening the week after on 16-19th
Tumblr media
The FIA is streaming F3 on the YouTube channel (streaming f3 not f4🥲…go watch motor gp too it’s on the same day) but you could probably watch it on other streaming platforms too (you know the ones👀👀)
If you haven’t seen the Macau GP before…give it a go! It’s brilliant!
*side note: if Fernando or Lewis ever retires from f1 and have nothing else to do…I’d like to see them tackle this track (again for Lewis) maybe not f3, maybe something like GT cup or something. It would be verrrry interesting👀

Thank you Lando for teaching me that mental health is very important.
Thank you Lewis for teaching me the importance of speaking up about issues faced by others, whether big or small, because it may really help other people and communities.
Thank you Daniel for teaching me that being positive and optimistic can put a smile on a lot of people’s faces.
Thank you Pierre for teaching me that I should fight for my dreams no matter the obstacles I face.
Thank you Fernando for teaching me that I should always be determined.
Thank you Carlos for teaching me that my popularity won’t determine my worth, or how good Iam at what I do.
Thank you Romain for teaching me that I have to keep on fighting until the last moment-because no one knows what could happen.
Thank you Sebastian for teaching me to always be passionate about the things I love.
Thank you Charles for teaching me that even if I lose people I love, life continues regardless, and I’ll still find happiness.
Thank you Mick for teaching me to never give up on my goals regardless of all the pressure and expectations that get thrown at me.
Thank you Max for teaching me that age won’t determine how good Iam at something all the time.
Thank you Valtteri for teaching me that i could always prove my worth but at the same time be a great teammate.
Thank you Kimi for teaching me that I’m not forced to get out of my comfort zone in able to fit in and get along with others.
Thank you George for teaching me to make the best out of what I have.
Thank you Esteban for teaching me that all goals are reachable-even though I have to stay patient and wait at times.
Thank you Ayrton for teaching me that sometimes I have to risk some things for other people that need my help.
Thank you Antonio for teaching me that there’s more to a person than what is seen on the outside.
Thank you Alex for teaching me that my life doesn’t end if I fail at achieving something-but I should not give up and work harder until I get what I want.
Thank you Michael for teaching me that what I want will happen once I start to be myself, to believe in myself, and to never let anyone doubt me.
Thank you to all the drivers because ever since I started getting to know them, each one of them has taught me something special, and this is why Formula 1 is more than a sport for me❤️

we must finish... what we started.....

yes, fuck it. you only live once and you only get the chance of wreaking havoc in a dying social network twice. to those of you who were here last year, you know the drill. to those of you who weren't, the idea is simple: we will have a champions league style tournament to decide who is the hottest of them all. the official tag will be #hottest drivers tournament 2022 in case you want to make edits and posts - the fan engagement was the best part of last year!
the first official round is on wednesday, 8 pm GMT+1, so in the meantime you can submit your fave driver for consideration either in my dms or in the replies to this post. i will maintain the list from last year as well just in case (behind the cut), but we can always add new drivers to the list! the one change i'll be making is that there will be a bot controller from the first group stages round to keep things breezy and light running. may we all have a happy summer break!
ps: pls don't send hate or talk shit behind my back this year, i have been doing therapy so i'm dealing better with personal issues but poor Odette doesn't need to hear about this insanity!!!!!
