"Justice, Truth and Philanthropy" - I came by these 2 very old Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) lodge signs last year. The Plinth sign is marked ’L Simpson & Co. 56 York Road, Kings Cross, N1.’ L Simpson made a lot of Masonic fraternity items from medals and jewelry to furniture. The hanging sign is double sided I’d say it wasn’t turned because one side is heavily patina’d. The Buffaloes are a charitable secret fraternity established by artistic and theatrical creatives, in The Harp Tavern on Dury Lane, London in 1822. They drew their then name of ‘The Buffaloes’ from a popular song of the time ‘We’ll chase the Buffalo’. This first meeting place was historically named the Harponian Lodge. As members toured the country with various shows, lodges were opened in other towns. During the 19th century the Order spread throughout the British Commonwealth and lodges now existed in Britain, Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Middle East, India, Africa, Gibraltar and Cyprus. The First World War led to temporary or even permanent closure of many Lodges due to the enlistment of members. The Buffs supported the war effort through supplying ambulances to bring wounded soldiers back from the front lines. Initially six motorised ambulances were purchased and sent manned by 'Volunteer Buffs'. More followed and on their return after the war, the ambulances formed the first ambulance service in England. In 1926, Lord Alverstone succeeded in persuading the Order to purchase Grove House, Harrogate, for use as an orphanage to which every active member contributed a ha'penny (half of one old penny.) During the Second World War, the Order offered Grove House for use as a military hospital. The RAOB continues its work in the local community, helping those its members promise to assist in times of difficulty and need. For just $79.99 This great iconic poster is an original litho and has never been displayed or framed. It has great color and is marked Joe Lowe Corporation. It was printed in the 1952 as it was part of a lot I purchased some time ago and they were all from the 1940s and 50s. It has been in storage for a long time. I include this information as I believe it was likely part of the The Coble Dairy line of products along with Push Ups, etc. The Coble Dairy was begun in the 1940s by George Coble in Davidson County, NC. Mr Coble was a leader in the dairy farming industry and community in the south. What a wonderful piece to frame for home or office! 8”x 20” This item is currently wrapped in plastic for protection. JEWELER’S WORKBENCH

Turn of the century primitive jewelers / watch maker work bench, best one I ever had, not only for the amazing zinc work details , like top half moon cover and zinc lined large tray and formed fold zinc smaller pull out tray but for his history. The jewelers family had history in the industry tracing back to early 1800′s New Orleans. At some point in time this bench was moved and placed in a spot where it had to be cut in order to fit. After cutting the piece they used an old sign from the previous generation to put it back together , when turning the piece you can still see the hand painted sign that reads WATCH MAKERS and other letters , also in the lower interior front shelf there’s more lettering to it.  Amazing piece of local history. 

A fantastic piece to place in an artist loft , high end jewelry or watch shop. Original paint and stunning patina, fantastic worn working top area. All the right thing !

Note: We added a steel frame for support onto the back but this piece will be just fine once is placed against a wall , can be also be fixed to the wall .
