Happy 4th of July to Cascadia, the country that doesn’t exist but does participate in a football world cup, throws its own celebration day, and has many anthems created by local musicians. May we all live the greater Ecotopia polycule someday.

[ID: What makes the situation even more ominous is that, though I have no doubt whom they have in mind, everyone around me stubbornly avoid the word Jew. In lines at the stores, people refer instead to "them" and "that ethnicity." Newspapers also use substitutes of all kinds: "persons of nonnative ethnicity," "antipatriots," "Israeli stooges," "Zionists," "the fifth column," "bourgeois nationalists." And now they put new terms into circulation: "cosmopolites without kith or kin" and "those who hide under pseudonyms." That is, these aren't human beings but werewolves.]

Theres also a hard conversation to have about how I think theres been an overcorrection in the antipatriotism game, in the sense that I think young people are appropriating backlash against and waking up from post 9/11 bullshit to extend to propositions like "standard of living sucks in america" or something like. Ok that's just failure to know how big the world actually is, and I do feel in a real way its downstream of feeling like anti patriotism has the moral high ground.

January 27: On this day in history, the Paris Peace Accords, signed January 27, 1973, officially ended American involvement in the Vietnam War. On March 29, 1973, the last U.S. military unit left Vietnam.
The antiwar movement in America throughout the 1960s and 1970s created an indispensable legacy in American history, powerfully mobilizing a pro-peace and anti-intervention message that endured for subsequent generations of Americans. The antiwar movement opposing military conscription forced by the government proved that being antiwar does not automatically equate to anti-patriotism or hatred of the military. Defending your constitutional rights and your right to free speech and assembly is patriotic. You show your patriotism in your obligation to stand up for the American men of your generation being forced into deadly circumstances in an unpopular war.
In 1917, activist Emma Goldman was on trial for conspiring against the Selective Service Act which drafted American men to fight in World War One. In defense of her actions, she spoke of how being antiwar does not equate to being unpatriotic:
Who is the real patriot, or rather what is the kind of patriotism that we represent? The kind of patriotism we represent is the kind of patriotism which loves America with open eyes. Our relation towards America is the same as the relation of a man who loves a woman, who is enchanted by her beauty and yet who cannot be blind to her defects. And so I wish to state here, in my own behalf and in behalf of hundreds of thousands whom you decry and state to be antipatriotic, that we love America, we love her beauty, we love her riches, we love her mountains and her forests, and above all we love the people who have produced her wealth and riches, who have created all her beauty, we love the dreamers and the philosophers and the thinkers who are giving America liberty. But that must not make us blind to the social faults of America. That cannot make us deaf to the discords of America. That cannot compel us to be inarticulate to the terrible wrongs committed in the name of patriotism and in the name of the country. We simply insist, regardless of all protests to the contrary, that this war is not a war for democracy. If it were a war for the purpose of making democracy safe for the world, we would say that democracy must first be safe for America before it can be safe for the world. (Emma Goldman, “Trial and Speech,” Mother Earth, July, 1917.)

My new lifestyle is not hard to upkeep. But im still like tempted to eat foods that "taste" good but make me feel very very shitty hours later.
One mindset i like to keep: my cacoon era is my rebellion era. One thing about me: i midkey kinda hate america. I kinda hate everything about this place, from the crippling capitalism, to the white beauty standard to the shit they allow in our food and air (not that these are unique problems to America - but just remember, i am coming out of a terrible depression and my mindset is that a change of scenery will do me good). Everything in this country is programed to eventually kill us.
I hate that. So i rebel.
Even if my government doesn't actually want me to live, or corporations don't want me to feel good about myself, im going to anyways. Ill eat the food that doesn't get commercials and do my part to kill the fast food monster. I wont put the poison in my body that corps clearly want us to eat, they make the cute lil jingles and flashy ads to grab my attention, i won't give it to them. I will feel gorgeous enough to not feel like i NEED makeup or cosmetic surgery. I will run far far away from the sedentary life they clearly want us to have so that our private healthcare system can stick me dry of all my money.
And then when i feel my peak, and i get even a modicum of cash (only 2k to delete my membership to America! I can save that up in like 2 years) i will escape from this country that has had its foot on my neck and its hand in my pockets and never look back.
My antipatriotism fuels my health journey. And i want to help take other rebels with me! Fuck this country and its artificial values!

A good example of how right-wingers can make themselves victims even when going out for a pizza. Apart from the fact that the story is more of a "that's how it was, I'm not making this up" series.
We will probably soon have an article like "Patriotic pizza lovers intimidated by a leftist militant."

im still mad that the populares exist and maxima is right there and yes it got coopted by asahi but apparently the entire faction all magically died upon anima's summoning leaving nothing but hypernationalist conservative garleans running around and there's not even a mention or a hint as to why. no like Oh well the populares just dont listen to the radio (I guess man) or like they were intentionally hunted out in the aftermath. it's weird because asides from the conscript workers the remnants of garlemald are just...nearly completely monolithic in thinking in order to make the "well they were brainwashed this is what your government DOES to you" argument stronger instead of ever acknowledging the preestablished fact there was a hell even just a liberal faction and resistance movements that were notable enough to be a part of the actual governmental body and negotiate foreign policy. What thee hell ever

out for a walk w/ my mom today & we saw four eagles - two adult, two juvenile - & neither of us can really get over the fact that we can just go for walks and see eagles. when i was a kid you were lucky if you could get over to the local lake where there were some nests out on an island and stick your quarter in the viewer thing and mayyyyyyybe you’d spot one and when she was a kid everybody was pretty sure they were gonna go extinct in her lifetime. my sister doesn’t quite get why we get so exicted over them, because for all of her life they’ve been in this rare, but not THAT rare, people have nest cams on youtube, you can spot them while you’re out driving, they’re birds sort of zone. but she’s the first generation in a long time to not see eagles, especially in pennsylvania, as a dwindling species close to the brink of disappearing. every time i see one when i’m driving i feel the urge to point it out to all the other cars

I also have seen so many people accusing Skamfr crew/cast-members of not being able to take constructive criticism when so much of the stuff I've seen directed at them, especially over on Twitter, is not constructive at all.
Yeah unfortunately i think the problem goes both ways. After s4 I think the creators showed they did not know how to respond to criticism that was actually constructive, especially from Muslim fans or fans of color. I didn’t see anything from them that showed that they were aware of how some of their decisions in that season were very problematic, and that was one of the first things that started to sour my opinion of them.
That said, yes, right from the start, A LOT of the criticism was absolutely entitled bullshit from people with no concept of boundaries, who decided to take every single thing the wrong way and did not want to watch the entire season unfold during s3, and I think they didn’t know how to deal with it and just started treating any criticism as hostile and bad-faith.
It doesn’t surprise me, honestly. French culture is very Like That : there is a primacy of the Creator (generally white, male, upper/middle class, cis and straight, otherwise they will have to constantly defend the Audacity with which they dare to stand in the public eye) which is kind of seen like a god, and can only be criticized by Appropriate Valid Critics who have studied literature and write in fancy magazines. There is very little fandom culture and what exists is very denigrated (it’s like that everywhere but it’s especially bad in France, see every single coverage of Skam talking about “hysterical female fans” with a tone of paternalistic disdain). So I think Skam France is unprecedented and the creators didn’t know or were not trained in any way to deal with fans who were so active, enthusiastic, and critical at the same time (and for some, seriously unhinged).
I mean, it’s not an excuse when it comes to not listening to the minorities they’re trying to represent. It’s absolutely a problem of French culture, it’s bad, it sucks, there is no awareness of the concept that some people might be more suited to tell their own stories, and of the dynamics of Power and Knowledge involved in that (which is mindboggling considering all the critical theory that gets produced) and I think this really needs to change.
but i think in general there was also very much a culture clash going on there as well (plus the general problem of current Social Media culture of thinking creators pretty much belong to their fans which justifies any sort of harassment)

wait omgg how did people react to you being a germany nt fan after the 1-7 this is interesting HAHAHA
i’m a germany fan since 2010 so my parents were used to it hahah and my family as well didn’t have much problem with it, the main problem was other people outside my family that lowkey compared me to judas hahaha
and that day i was going to watch the match with my entire family and they locked me up in my room and told me i could only get out after the match (they were waiting so hard to make fun of me) but then at half time they screamed at me and said: HEY GET OUT NICOLE YOU CAN WATCH THE SECOND HALF WITH US and at that time they were so tired that they joined me and suddenly we were all germany fans hsjdjdjkd

Shame falls upon the GOP
The once upon a time party of Lincoln” has taken to expounding falsehoods and deceit. It is upholding lies, and suborning rebellion. Patriotism has disappeared from their ranks. Law has been replaced by disorder. In their public statements an insurrection is deemed “legitimate.” A mutiny in which police officers were killed is deemed “political discourse.” The GOP has lost any moral compass it…
