Memes are the best medicine for posts that really piss you off.

Y'know, the shipping angle aside, at some point I ought to make a post about Riku in KH1 and how well-written he was as a thoroughly unsympathetic character, and how much the later games' success at having him be more sympathetic hinges upon the recognition of his unsympathetic starting point, both from the audience and more importantly from Riku himself. It's why, as much as I hate what's been done with him in the more recent games, I still like Riku on the whole, certainly more so than the other major villain-turned-hero, Lea / Axel.

what was riku's reaction when he made a semi-living being out of his feelings for sora in neverland? did maleficent teach him this, or was riku in his room for hours, shifting and crafting the darkness until some semblance of his best friend formed? did he fuss over every detail? (his hair parts this way/his lips are more rounded/he has more baby fat here) did he cringe away at those yellow eyes at first? that hollow voice that was and wasn't sora at the same time? did he fight with it? yell at it? pound his hands against a ribcage that sucked in every hit and just stood there with sora's stupid smile on it's face?

did he hold it tight in his arms, begging the shadow to say 'I love you'?

did he cry as it said nothing?

Yep. And let's put aside from we personally feel about the game, because even on an unbiased, objective level, Dream Drop Distance is absolutely one of the weaker, less-polished games in the whole KH franchise. It was made by the same team that made Birth by Sleep but in only half the time, and the behind the scenes development process was, ironically given the subject matter, something of a nightmare for most involved. In no sensible ranking should it be anywhere near "the best Kingdom Hearts" (which, yes, is KH2:FM).

Sometimes I stay up late and start thinking about Vanitas and Repliku because they're anti Soriku.

The two of them are together.

They are the ones who created the love-hate relationship because that is what the two of them have.

Vanitas and Repliku will mess with Soriku. They will mess specifically with Riku for believing that Sora is better off without him and that he doesn't like Riku which is obviously not true here.
