Sometimes Riku is so gay coded and the headcanon is so strongly supported that I forget that it's not canonically stated
I feel that he tries to hide it, but is just not doing a very good job because everyone knows.
Sora also doesn't realize he loves Riku

An In-depth Look on the Day of the Meteor Shower (The Necklace and The Sword)
a soriku endgame deep dive: part 2
This is part of my soriku endgame deep dive series, a series where i'll try to dissect everything and anything related to soriku.
Part 2 is going to be more of an analysis rather than a prediction. Specifically about the necklace theory, about Sora's and Riku's meteor shower memory. More specifically, my variation of the memory, and why I think it was Sora who made the promise first (with toy sword), then Riku made his vow back (necklace).
I'm not saying that other interpretations are invalid, this is just one other way to look at it. I will also be writing my opinions and thoughts on the matter, and how this version impacts sora and riku's relationship.
Start of Analysis
What actually happened
To start off, I want to say that I'm not a certified KH fan (a lot of things under my assumptions could be wrong), since I'm still considered to be somewhat a new fan (i got introduced to KH in 2019) and i haven’t actually played any game except 1/3 COM GBA. So take this with the grain of salt.
I assume that most fans believe the necklace theory memory goes as follows: Sora got scared of the meteor, Riku made his vow with his toy sword, Riku gave the necklace to Sora.
And I thought so too for a while because of Riku's heavy association with the word 'protect' and 'vow', but after reading multiple posts and thinking about it for a while, i think it goes more like this: Riku is upset (for reasons that is not the meteor shower), Sora cheers him with his toy sword (sora did not chew onto the actual matter, opting instead to make a promise, to be together with riku), Riku gave the necklace to Sora (riku then made his vow to protect sora).
For the longer version:
Riku got jealous when Sora's started to hang out with his new friends (Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie) and stormed off. Sora noticed that something is off and the FF gang sent him off to go catch after THAT GUY (aitsu). Sora and Riku argues, coincidentally a meteor shower started happening.
It’s probably a pretty scary experience for a 5 YO and a 6 YO who were standing alone on the islands at night at that time, and this situation might be more frightening than your usual meteor shower (given that it is chunks of a world being destroyed near the islands).
But even if he's scare to the point of tears, Sora still forces himself to put on a brave front for riku. He shakily assures Riku not to worry with the toy sword that he's holding. Sora promises to always be together (issho ni 一緒に) with him, to fight alongside him and to protect him.
In that moment Riku was probably really stunned at this kid, who’s such a crybaby at his core and stupid but brave at the same time and somehow managed to spark weird feelings inside of him. So Riku muttered a thanks, and gave his necklace to Sora, vowing to protect him and never let him go.
Why this version?
another disclaimer that my version could be wrong, but even with variations of details my key points are still: sora's promise is symbolized by his sword, riku by his necklace.
now let's actually get into the analysis!! (tbh this is just my reasoning on why i chose this, why i chose that etc)
AITSU: Destiny Islands
i based my interpretation on the aitsu scene of card destiny islands that happened in COM
Yes this infamous scene.
Every world on COM is a manifestation of Sora’s heart, so i believe the actual memory played out in a similar fashion with how this scene goes
🔽 selphie wakka tidus urging sora to go meet THAT GUY (aitsu)
🔽 riku banter of "oh sora ur so pathetic without me"
🔽 sora finding namine here (in literal chaos -> meteor shower), “i finally found you!!”, namine (riku) clenches fist. And here sora brings his keyblade (sword)
*and this is probably the closest thing we've ever got to a real life action scene of the necklace theory
riku’s psychology (pre-ddd)
a.k.a. why i think riku's promise is symbolized as sora's necklace, not sora's necklace + sword
Riku’s main flaw that I’m focusing here is his drive to be ‘the best’ which manifests in the form of his tendency to be possessive and being dishonest about his feelings
Via BBS, from a young age riku has already stated that he wants to ‘protect the things that matters’ (daiji na mono), hinting at his obsession for things (necklace and sora) that he holds dear to him.
Sora recalls that namine had her paopu charm since she was a baby, which made sense that the necklace holds great importance to riku as a family heirloom, one of the ‘important stuff’ (daiji na mono) that he wants to protect.
This later aligns with how ‘things that matters’ evolved with riku’s character because at the night of the meteor shower:
riku’s ‘important stuff’ (daiji na mono), turns into -> ‘precious stuff’ (taisetsu na mono) referencing to sora / riku's heirloom that sora is holding onto, because now that object has multiplied the value of worth
and later to -> ‘precious person’ (taisetsu na hito), because riku finally realized 'the things that matters' or precious person is Sora, and by realizing that his love became more unconditional, because he is discarding himself (the necklace) in the process
(Beautiful no? I think so too)
And to add, this possessiveness is what caused him to go ballistic in the first place when he saw that
Sora has the Kingdom Key (Riku is the original owner of said key; via nomura interview, riku is the light)
Sora has discarded him AGAIN for his NEW friends: donald and goofy
Riku thinks sora discarded him for real this time because other than new companions, for once Sora is better and stronger than Riku so he won’t need Riku anymore to protect him
Second, in KH1, Riku is described more as a cool, older guy, who teases sora a lot, and is better at everything than sora.
It is important to note that soriku dynamic KH1 is a bit different in comparison to it's KH3 counterpart. Although they both might look the same at front value, if you squint, KH3 riku became more of a reliable figure, giving guidance, protection, admiration, and a safe-space for sora
Unlike KH1 where it’s sora who’s more of a safe-space for riku because atp because riku masks his dislike and true feelings behind playful teasing and bantering, the most damning example: riku’s paopu scene, riku putting up a ‘cool guy’ front 24/7 non stop no break, and sanctuary is written for soriku renunion (yes this is true, you can search it up) which had reverse lyrics how cool is that.
*lyrics of sanctuary (KH2 Opening)
In KH3 you can see that both Riku’s actions and words are more genuine, he is actually honest about what he felt, and give honest encouragement to Sora, example his sacrifice scene at KB Graveyard (in english there's a slight mistranslation)
“Sora, I believe in you, you won’t give up”
Opposed to this which was previously used by Riku to motivate Sora in KH1 (example scene is sora's fight againts ansem in KH1 & roxas riku Days fight):
“Giving up already? Come on Sora, I thought you were stronger than that!”
*this is riku talking on screen
So following all of this, i’d say it’s more fitting if riku's vow is symbolized by necklace not sword because by this action:
The necklace is a way of saying that Riku entrust his heart / identity to Sora without explicitly saying it
A reminder for Riku for the precious vow that he made
An implicit bind that Riku unconsciously forced on Sora that says together means TOGETHER FOREVER and that you can never escape from me EVER
Which: if riku is the one who first raised his sword to made his promise, it would be more of a ddd/kh3 riku thing and riku would not gave his necklace to sora because he would not want to bind sora to be forever with him as that is a selfish thing to do
Yes, Riku may also raise his sword to offer protection in that scene, but it was done after the necklace / vow is made on sora.
Sora’s association with the sword
Okay but does that actually changes anything?
Yes, because the promise is now mutual because its no longer just riku being unhealthily obsessed with Sora, it also goes the other way, via FF kids convo:
It also fits Sora’s character to dashingly comforts Riku with his words and assurance because if he doesn’t exactly understand what’s going on, Sora always managed to find his way around people’s heart
And, it also fits with Sora’s character issue, the tendency to mask and ignore things that really needed to be discussed with a happier, cheerful front in order to distract them from the actual problem.
Now for Sora = Toy Sword relation
Reminder that I don't play Kingdom Hearts so this is based on what I know, in Kingdom Hearts dive to the heart, there are 3 weapon types or path that you can choose to manipulate your stat, the dream shield, path of the guardian (goofy or riku), dream rod, path of the mystic (donald or kairi), or dream sword, path of the warrior (sora or mickey)
And then there’s also this panel during COM Riku Boss Fight II, when Sora reminisced about sparring with Riku. The sequence is Sora fades to his memories, an image of child sora with the toy sword is conjured, then sora spare with riku.
There is also the previously mentioned keyblade (sword) that Sora is holding when coming into contact with namine on card destiny island, when everything is surrounded by chaos (view AITSU: Destiny Island panel 1)
And now I'm going to take parts from Kingdom Key & Kingdom Hearts analysis which help me conjured this whole post in the first place. In KH1, Riku's light touches Sora, bestowing him with his keyblade (crown)
And how Sora had also entrusted his sword (heart) to riku
What I'm saying is, at the night of the meteor shower, sora and riku had exchanged symbols (the heart and the crown) to eachother at the night of the meteor shower when sora gave protection with his sword (heart) and riku with his necklace (crown)
THIS IS GOING BASED ON THE FACT THAT THEIR SYMBOL IS SORA = CROWN, RIKU = HEART
*these are the chess pieces of sora (crown), riku (heart), kairi (star) in kh3 (there are still more, but mainly these symbols is always used in sora and riku's visuals)
Moreso if crown = sora, heart = riku from the beginning it would not make sense with their character origin because crown can be meant as chosen one, special one, royalty, which sora has been stated multiple times to be just an ordinary boy despite the bajillion crown symbolism on him while the heart means to connect with people which is more associated with sora rather than riku who's whole theme is isolation and hidden truths
alternatively, sora has given his heart to riku, while riku has given his throne to sora on the night of the meteor shower which also aligns with the boys character issues: need of validation (sora) and need of affection (riku)
Scene Analysis
now with the assumption that sora -> sword, riku -> necklace, a few scenes started to hit a little deeper
KH1 Hollow Bastion
here riku is basically saying "i don't want your heart anymore, you can have it back" but he can't directly took the necklace so the kingdom key will have to do
COM Riku Boss Fight II
the line "you always try to warm your way into my heart!" and "it never mattered to you" from repliku makes so much sense because the real riku probably feels manipulated by sora's false promises and empty words, that it tricked him to gave up his precious family heirloom and essentially his heart that he trusted to sora
**in addition, repliku started tweaking after sora implies that they should work together (issho ni) instead of fighting
and many more.... (we've hit the image limit)
there's probably a lot more scene that can be seen in a different perspective with this mindset in mind especially in kingdom hearts I and chain of memories, but those are the MAIN examples that i've listed (i might do more in the future, i'll put a link when i do!!)
THE ENDD!!!!!!
that being said, this analysis had come to an end!!!! tysm for reading!!

MPW Ep 6 Subtitle Corrections
Masterlist: EP 1 || EP 2 || EP 3 || EP 4 || EP 5 ||
Y: To be honest, I was scared. Because whenever he came close to me, my heart leapt and skipped a beat. I wished that, if possible, he wouldn't come near me because we lived in different worlds. 'I want him to like me' - I never had a thought like that. It was just... If he ended up hating me then I felt like I might die. Just thinking about it made my stomach turn.
We've seen for awhile that Yoh's fear that Segasaki will one day come to disdain him is what keeps him from voicing his thoughts out loud - but it is in Ep 6 that we truly learn the intensity with which Yoh feels, and come to understand why that fear overwhelms him to the point that he is incapable of hearing Segasaki's love for him.
Or, Yoh sees Segasaki for the first time and literally starts spouting poetry in the way only a visual artist can. Get ready for a lot of interaction breakdowns - this episode tells us quite a lot about these two! Same translation disclaimer applies, Ep 6, let's go!
S: As usual, he walks so slowly
Y: どうでもいいって なんだよ Y: 人が一所懸命やってることに対して* Y: 最低だよ あいつ* Y: You know... actually Y: When I was leaving we got into an argument M: Huh? What happened? Y: I was told "I don't care at all about something like your work" M: By Segasaki-san? He said something like that? Y: "I don't care at all"... what's with that! Y: To say that about something that someone is giving their all for...* Y: He's the worst, that guy** **Yoh uses あいつ (aitsu) to refer to Segasaki as "that guy". This is again considered rude, though is often used amongst male friends as well (like calling someone an asshole/bastard). He tends to use this word to refer to Segasaki in his head, especially when he's annoyed with him.
*Just like at the end of Ep 5, where Yoh emphasizes that he will become someone who can earn more as opposed to just earning more, here Yoh specifies that he is upset with Segasaki's response to his work, rather than being upset with the response being directed at himself, as the original subs imply. It's a small difference but I think it's important because it fits with his entire character. He has consistently only been triggered by comments about his work, not about him as a person. Yoh is self-conscious and sensitive about his work, because he sees competence as a measure of worth. It's precisely because he ties his self-worth to his work that he falls into such a deep depression in Ep 5, and it is the same reason why Yoh does not understand what good Segasaki could possibly see in him - after all, there is no merit in just being who he is, only in the work that he can do.
Y: No, that's just over-interpreting it in my favor Atsuya (Man-san's husband): Dayo-kun, they say that about 90% of the meaning words convey comes down to the way we interpret them, so A: Depending on the way we feel, or our condition in that moment, that meaning can end up distorted and warped, even if the same words are used, you know? A: If Dayo-kun you, had been in a happier mood, might it not have sounded a lot sweeter to you?
Y: ん。。。 Y: Mm... No, it's not like that Y: That person and I, well... that's not what it's like (between us), you see
Y: When I first saw that person I thought that he might not be a living thing from this planet At the very least, out of all the forms that I had ever seen on this Earth I thought he had the most beautiful one. The shape of his ears, the ridge of his nose, The line of the angle of his jaw, the full contour of his lips Even the structure of what could not be seen - the globe of his eyes - I thought for sure that too must be beautiful.
Y: I had drawn manga as a hobby but It was my first time drawing a real live person. And, It was also the first time that I thought "I want to draw a man" In that moment, driven by impulse, I wanted to burn his image into my eyes, to capture his likeness down on paper. Probably, it was because I was in the same space as that beauty. It was because of that, that I began to go crazy.
At 06:44, when Segasaki's green shirt classmate comes in calling his name, you can see that Yoh mouth’s "Mizuki" after he hears it.
(Btw Green Shirt later wears a Red Jacket, and is played by Nishimoto Maiki, the leader of the group Acchan is in - GENIC. Cute shot of the 3 of them here)
S: Well it's not like he's doing anything to us directly... I think it's fine actually
Y: If it was a girl Then maybe I would have clearly understood that this was love at first sight But it was just very simply, a beautiful man so My brain couldn't handle processing more than that
Most of this is not subtitled, and it’s a little muffled, but as the group walks over you can hear that Segasaki is the center of their conversation here, though he's not actually participating in it much. It speaks to the group dynamics, so I'm including it here (Segasaki is bolded):
Girl: ええ? S: ちがうよ Red Jacket: 瑞貴じゃん、ね、今ね? Girl どうせモテるじゃん S: いやモテない Red:モテるよ瑞貴が Girl: 告されてるよ どうせ Red: されてる されてる Girl: あれ!ぼっちくん*じゃん Red: うわっ マジだ ぼっちくんじゃん Boy: いつも俺たちのことチラチラ見てる Girl: ちょっと来なよ おしゃべりしたげるからさ** Girl: Whaat? S: It wasn't Red Jacket: It was (said to) Mizuki wasn't it, right? Just now? Girl: I mean you're popular anyway! S: No, I'm not Red: Mizuki's popular Girl: Whatever it is, that was a confession (you received) Red: It was, it was Girl: Oh hey! Why, isn't it Little Loner*? Red: Oh snap, you're right! It is Little Loner! Boy: The one who always sneaks looks at us Girl: Come here a bit, we'll talk to you, ok?** *ぼっちくん (Bocchi-kun) - Bocchi is slang for loner, and by adding the suffix "-kun" to it, they've turned this into a diminutive, like a nickname. It sounds cute and friendly, but is clearly meant as a casual sort of insult, so I've translated it as "Little" here. **This is an interesting line to discuss. She tells Yoh to come over, using the phrase 来なよ (kina yo) - this is the same "na" that Segasaki uses in Ep 4 actually, when he tells a drunk Yoh to go sleep in the room. It's the exact same word form, but where it was tender when Segasaki said it, it's highly insulting here - and the reason is because of the context and their (non-existant) relationship. She may be Yoh's senior, but this is the first time they're meeting, and they are nowhere near close enough that this phrasing would ever be seen as appropriate. She then tells him "we'll talk to you", using the colloquial form of "~したあげる (shita ageru)" aka "to do for you" - in other words, she's framing the action of them talking to him as if it were a gift from them to him (this word form also implies they are above him in the hierarchy). She also adds the polite prefix "O" to the word for "talk", which in this context is meant to make her appear sweet and ladylike. In other words, with just one line, she has insulted Yoh not only by talking down to him as if he were a small child or a pet, but also by insinuating that she's a sweet, lovely person who has been so kind as to deign to speak to him.
Y: あの。。。 Y: Um... I*... will go and buy it. Y: That's definitely 100 million times better than getting harassed by them *Yoh still uses the masculine pronoun 俺 (ore) for "I" here (the same one he's used in every episode) which is remarkable for the fact that he doesn't switch to the more polite form 僕 (boku). Nowadays, it isn't really expected per se that a junior make this switch - especially since "ore" is usually the go-to pronoun for most male university students - but the switch wouldn't be surprising either, given that they are his seniors. Yoh does acknowledge their seniority when he uses the formal -masu form of the word "to buy" - but in the context of them bullying him, the choice to stick with the more masculine pronoun "ore" suggests that he isn't intimidated by them.
Red: He automatically offered to be an errand boy! Isn’t that crazy? Girl: It’s nuts!
パシリ(pashiri) - to be made to run errands - is slang, and it is used specifically to refer to cases where someone with more social power orders another around. It’s almost always linked to bullying or misuse of social power – so by using this word, these guys - they know exactly what they are doing.
Y: クソだよ あいつら* Y: Those bastards*… they’re trash *Yoh uses the same word あいつ (aitsu) to refer to the gang that he did at the beginning of this episode to refer to Segasaki - once again it is the context that changes the meaning of this word. With Segasaki, it is proof that they share a close relationship. With these upper classmen that he's just met - it's definitely rude.
This is a very common form of bullying in school, and evidently, Yoh recognizes it immediately. The fact that he jumps so quickly to cooperating with it tells us sadly that this is something he's familiar with - he's likely been bullied before. This is unfortunately, unsurprising, because Yoh doesn't adhere to social norms very much. He eats alone, he stares at people, he doesn't greet his seniors properly (that slight bow is not enough, there should at least be a verbal greeting of some sort).
In my post on amae, I talked about how the interdependent self-construal means that one's ability to assimilate is seen as a value. In the same vein, people who do not fit in with the group, or who do not conform, are not looked upon favorably in Japan, because it is often assumed that they simply do not want to. It is not that they are unable to assimilate, it is that they are refusing to make an effort to be part of the group, and thus the fault and blame lies with them. Ostracization of those different therefore, is the expected consequence and punishment that the group metes out. All of us have to do our part to adhere to the rules of the group - what makes you so special that you can do your own thing? If you just did your job of fitting in like the rest of us have, well, then you wouldn't be in this position in the first place, now would you? - This sort of justification is the reason why bullying in Japan can become very, very extreme, and why despite efforts, has been so difficult to eradicate.
S: I thought all of that was probably going to be too much for one person to carry S: Pass it over Y: Thank you very much* S: Let's go
*Yoh uses the full, polite version of "thank you" here, and he will, for the most part, continue to use desu/masu forms with Segasaki, and answer him politely, in recognition of their senior/junior relationship. Similarly, Segasaki uses informal forms with Yoh, though he maintains a friendly demeanor and does not drop to rude forms at all, because they aren't that close yet. Note how he says 行こう (ikou) for "let's go" here - different from his present day "we're going", which leaves no room for argument.
(Also, he took the heavier bag of drinks (´ ▽`).。o♡)
Let's break this down to look at some social cues and nuances:
S: You walk quite leisurely, don't you? Y: I've... been told that a lot
This is more than just a callback to the beginning of the episode (or a chance to contrast how much more polite and sweet Segasaki sounds here 😂) - This is another way in which we see Yoh does not fit in. Segasaki is his senior, who has gone out of his way to come help him (never mind that Yoh's being bullied), and he should at the very least, be trying to match Segasaki's pace, not making him wait like Yoh does here. Segasaki's comment should be taken as much as an expression of surprise, as it should a cue to catch up - Yoh glances briefly at Segasaki after this line (which seems to amuse the latter) but he doesn't actually apologize outright or walk any faster. He does admit that he's been told this often - which sometimes can work as a concession, because you sort of validate what the other person is saying, but at the same time you aren't quite agreeing either. That said, it can backfire, because it means you've been made aware of your habit and yet have done nothing to change it. Segasaki doesn't seem to mind though, and actually matches Yoh's pace here.
Speaking of "pace" - "マイペース" or "my pace" is a loan word from English, and is a term used to describe someone who tends to do things, well, at their own pace, or in their own way, and who isn't bother by the people or goings-on around them. Usually meant as a benign, sometimes affectionate comment on someone's personality, it often brings to mind the image of someone who appears to drift during conversations, who might be a little "slow" in social interactions, or who physically lags behind the group. It can have negative connotations, because it means the group needs to make concessions for this person (like looking for them when they've wondered off). Yoh is the epitome of someone who is "my pace", and I'm very sure that the emphasis on his slow walking is not just a peculiar quirk of his character, it's an intentional part of the character design to show how Yoh is different.
S: *You... what's your name? Y: Ah, I'm called Yoh. Um... written with the character for "leaf" S: Hmm~ Yoh-kun huh.. Y: Yes
*Segasaki uses the polite pronoun 君 (kimi) to refer to Yoh here, as opposed to the rougher お前 (omae) that he now uses in the present day.
That little action Yoh does whilst saying "leaf" is him drawing out the kanji character for his name. It's quite common to tell someone which character is used to write your name, because the characters usually mean something, and it helps others to remember. Strictly speaking, Yoh really should be introducing his full name here, but judging by how he's been fiddling with the plastic bag, he's probably just too nervous to realize.
S: I'm Y: Mizuki...san S: Why do you know that? Y: Ah... that's what.. you were called (by them) so... S: You listen closely don't you Y: Ahh.. yea...
Nice save 😂First of all, it's extremely unusual to jump straight to using someone's first name instead of their family name (unless you're still a kid), let alone doing it to an upper classman, though Yoh does manage to tack on the polite suffix "-san" at the back. It's the verbal equivalent of stepping right into someone's personal space and touching their bag or something and then being all "er there was something there...". It's just weird and borderline inappropriate 😂 The fact that Segasaki doesn't scold him for taking such a liberty, or show any sign that he appears weirded out by it (in fact, he actually goes along with it!) tells us that Segasaki is a very kind (yasashii would be the right term here, the same term that appears at the end of this episode) or at least a very tolerant individual though I'd also like to think he just finds Yoh's strange ways a little cute too.
Continuing with the breakdown:
S: Is it fun? Y: Huh? Ah no-
Segasaki's tone changes here to a more serious one - all he does is stress the final syllables of the word "fun" to indicate he's asking a question, instead of adding any end particles that might give more context, or that might soften the tone. The topic switch is a little sudden, which is why Yoh seems a bit confused. It doesn't help that the words are a little ambiguous - it literally translates to "now, fun?" - except the Japanese word for "now" is often used to mean "just now" as well, because the Japanese concept of time is not quite as linear as it is in West. "Now" doesn't just refer to "this current exact second we are in", it extends from whenever the "current activity" began right up to "this current exact second" - the key is figuring out what the current activity is 😅. Because Segasaki jumps into this topic so suddenly, and without much contextual cues, Yoh can't quite tell whether he means now, as in them walking together, or now, as in, the whole being sent on an errand thing, which is why Segasaki clarifies in the next sentence:
S: Being hassled, and sent on errands? Y: Oh... S: So? Y: No, it... isn't fun.
Segasaki watches Yoh closely whilst he waits for the answer to his question. This is Segasaki checking that Yoh knows he's being bullied, and it's also permission to talk about the topic. Once he confirms that Yoh does know what's happening, he looks away again.
The exchange tells us a lot about Segasaki's character, because often, the reason why bullying goes on for so long is that no one is willing to talk about it. Everyone knows what's going on, but no one acknowledges it. The fact that Segasaki jumps straight into it hints to Yoh that he doesn't agree with what his "friends" are doing (whether Yoh catches that hint or not is a different story). It also tells us, the audience, that he isn't afraid to speak up about things he disagrees with (similar to how he spoke up for Yoh when Yoh was sketching in the cafeteria) - but not to the extent that he'll do something which threatens the harmony of the group outright. This is tatemae/honne, which I talked about briefly in the amae post as well, and linked to this street interview video for real life examples. In short, tatemae is your ability to avoid conflict and smooth over group interactions, and is seen as an essential and positive trait. Segasaki is very good at this, even at this stage in his life, which is part of why he is so well-liked.
Y: What about Mizuki-san? S: Me? Y: Yes S: I'm not having fun at all S: It's a secret, yea? Y: Yes
This is cute, and tells us about Yoh's character too. Firstly, he's still persisting in his use of "Mizuki-san", though he's being really tentative about it, like he's testing whether or not it's okay. Secondly, he's actually asking Segasaki directly to confirm his stand on what his "friends" are doing. Is this Yoh being daring, or just his slightly awkward, somewhat tactless self? I couldn't tell you 🤣 It's likely a bit of both.
In response, you can hear the surprise in Segasaki's voice, but he doesn't hesitate to detach himself from the actions of the group. The way he invites Yoh into his group here, by acting as if he's let Yoh in on a secret, is very charming obviously, and reminds me somewhat of how in Ep 4, he suddenly drops to "Kanami-san" when talking to Man-san too. This again fits with how his "public mode" has been consistently portrayed thus far - nice, charming, polite, good-looking, and obviously popular (Ep 3, the girls in the cafe at the back, Ep 4, the way he talks to Man-san, this Ep, where he's even been proposed to).
Guy: Is my water coming? Red: Will that guy remember? Guy: Good point, he's really made us wait S: Sorry! Yoh says he's got a stomachache, so I'm gonna take him home. Here! Girl: Huh? But it's not like Mizuki you have to go too right? S: Leaving him all by himself right when he's having a hard time - wouldn't you feel bad for him?* S: So, see you guys later, 'kay! Bye! S: Let's go Red: Mizuki's really kind** isn't he? Girl: But, he's leaving you know!
*Segasaki does a very small switch up to the polite form here, as he takes the moral high ground by reminding the girl that as Yoh's senior, they have an obligation to take care of him when he's unwell. He's still friendly about it though. **優しい (yasashii) - kind. This word pops up a lot to describe Segasaki, we'll talk about it at the end of this episode.
Y: Um... is this okay? S: You wanted to go back there? Y: No
Y: This person, whose friends were always surrounding him... I just couldn't understand why he'd walk together with me like this It was a mystery to me.
Y: That face was... so close to me I could scarcely believe it And it dawned on me then How wonderfully pleasing Even the notes of his voice drifting pass my ears sounded
The scene in the library I've included right at the top, but I'm going to add the conversation that happens during Yoh's monologue, since the subs have them sort of mixed in.
S: Yoh S: What're you doing? Y: Eh! Um, ah.. I'm looking for a book... (inaudible) S: This book is interesting Y: Eh? Y: Thank you very much S: Tell me your thoughts on it next time Y: Yes
Segasaki's already dropped the polite suffix "-kun" behind Yoh's name here, and doesn't actually bother to let Yoh finish saying thank you before he tells him to report back about the book. Yoh on the other hand, is still using the full, formal and polite version of thank you, and answers him properly. Segasaki's taken the initiative to get closer to Yoh - he's already speaking to him like how he does in the present day (just, not roughly), but Yoh hasn't gotten comfortable enough yet to drop the formalities - or, he simply may not be sure if he can.
Navigating formalities and when to drop them is tricky, and requires some degree of social intuition. Generally speaking, Segasaki dropping a speech level should be a sign that it might be okay for Yoh to drop as well (not to the same level of course, just a little less formal) - but given how Yoh sees them as living in different worlds, and how fearful he is of being hated, it's unlikely that he'd want to touch the status quo.
Y: That person's feelings?
Yoh's pretty much stuck to the phrase "that person" when referring to Segasaki this whole episode, even during his flashback. He tends to do this when he's feeling some distance between them (like in Ep 2).
On screen messages: Y: What is Kintsuba? S: You don't even know what Kintsuba is? Y: I'm sorry [Yesterday] S: I'll be back late today Y: Understood [Today] (unread) S: Just give the editor some kind of excuse, and come back right now
A: You've pretty much been cornered, huh?* Y: Putting feelings into words and all... I've never really done that myself... Y: Let alone (doing that for) another person's feelings. *This is in reference to Man-san asking Yoh to write out Segasaki's feelings
A: めちゃくちゃにしてやる, めちゃくちゃにして..x10 A: Gonna mess you up, mess you up... x 10
Yes, this does sound like a line straight out of a bad Jp AV 🤣🤣. I mean, we're talking about scenes from Man-san's manga right? That they had to mosaic out? 🤣🤣
Now you know why Segasaki is pissed.
S: Kanami-san, are you also doing your work together with him? M: I apologize! We ended up moving forward without even alerting you about it! S: No, it's not your fault, Kanami-san
You can tell Segasaki has misunderstood here - he thinks Man-san has also been called to work at this Editor's place, and is completely not listening to what she has said, hence her ?? reaction 🤣
S: Ah, I apologize An urgent matter arose, and so I've come to pick Yoh up.
Segasaki's being quite formal here, but this is not the way to be polite. The "proper" way to request leave to go home early on behalf of someone else would be to first, apologize specifically for the disruption, introduce yourself and your relation to that person, apologize that an urgent matter has come up, regrettably but firmly insist that said person must return home immediately on pain of death, apologize again for all the trouble caused, promise to make up for it, humbly ask for understanding, and then apologize your way out the door.
So yes, despite the polite word forms this is quite rude, and is so far removed from Segasaki's usual "public mode" that it cracks me up. Segasaki's composure is unravelling by the second in these next few scenes - he is pissed and absolutely does.not.give.a.shit. 🤣
From right to left: S: So, this bastard is the famed Editor huh... S: Don't you dare try to deceive and pull tricks on Yoh! S: The hell you doing touching him like that so freely!! A: Who (is this)?
The language gets progressively ruder the more the speech bubbles get pointy and the larger the font gets🤣🤣
M: 瀬ケ崎さん やっぱ強いわ~ M: Segasaki-san really has a strong presence after all~
Y: I'm sorry for keeping this from you!* S: Tell me Y: Yes S: Is that what you like? Y: Huh? S: Compared to me, just how is that guy better? *Yoh uses the full but informal version of "sorry" here - gomen nasai. Making a note of this here so I can come back to it in one of the analysis posts.
Y: Um, no... Y: I don't think it's something that can be compared... S: There is something, isn't there? Some way in which he's better than me S: Though, unless you give me something I think is reasonable I won't accept it Y: Well if I had to say something then... maybe, he's kind?* Y: I mean, he listens carefully and attentively to what someone has to say...
*優しい (yasashii) - often translated as "kind", it encompasses the ideas of "caring", "tenderness", "thoughtful/considerate", "warm/gentle". It's often a trait people say they look for in their significant other.
This word has come up often to describe Segasaki - in Ep 2, Segasaki uses it to describe himself, in Ep 3, Yoh uses it to describe Segasaki's voice, and of course here in Ep 6, red shirt uses it to describe Segasaki again. Even when the word isn't said out loud, a lot of Segasaki's actions would fit this word - In Ep 2, when he picks up after Yoh and comforts him during their not-argument. In Ep 3, when he passes Yoh his gift, and implies there's nothing to be sorry for. In Ep 4, the way he coaxes Yoh. In Ep 5, when he takes care of Yoh. In Ep 6, he speaks up for Yoh in the cafeteria when he doesn't have to, when he goes to help Yoh. The irony of this moment is that Segasaki puts in a lot of effort and probably does pride himself in being yasashii, and he listens to Yoh better than Yoh listens to himself, and yet he hears from Yoh that he isn't yasashii or attentive, which explains the pained expression on his face.
S: あ、そう S: 俺先行くわ* S: Oh, is that so? S: I'm going ahead then* *わ (wa) - this ending particle puts emphasizes one's statement, but is not one that Segasaki usually uses. It's less forceful that his usual speech, because he's quite hurt by Yoh's statements.
Y: The thing that was inside my bag, I put it back so... The way Yoh ends this sentence leaves room for a follow up - it's an invitation to continue the conversation, which we actually have not seen him do with Segasaki, and that's why he looks so dejected when Segasaki rejects that invitation by walking away.
Though it's been hinted at throughout the show, Ep 6 is where we get confirmation that Yoh's just never quite fit in with the crowd, and that Segasaki has always been in the center of it. The stark difference explains why Yoh is so afraid that one day he will do something to make Segasaki hate him, and why he reflexively rejects the idea that Segasaki could possibly love him.
This episode is painful, for both of them. For Yoh, because from the intensity of his monologues, we finally get a sense of how big a presence Segasaki is to him, and therefore, how devastating it would be to lose him. For Segasaki, because for all that he can read Yoh, for all that he has done to try and reassure Yoh of his love, he still cannot make Yoh see, cannot make Yoh hear.
"If he ended up hating me then I felt like I might die."
It is precisely Yoh's love for Segasaki that makes Yoh fear the possibility of losing him, and it is that fear that blinds, deafens and mutes Yoh to the very thing he hopes for. And it is in trying to protect himself, that he inadvertently hurts the very person he loves so much.
#my personal weatherman#taikan yohou#体感予報#MPW subtitle corrections#mytranslations#segasaki x yoh#Ep 6 has given us a lot of context about these two#and reinforces again that it doesn't matter what Segasaki might say or do#Until Yoh sees the good in himself#he's not going to overcome that fear#Segasaki literally gives up his best ability here#he let's his composure slowly unravel throughout this whole ep#he loses the very thing that triggers Yoh's feelings of inadequacy#and yet Yoh doesn't even notice#ahh this is what happens when you love a “my pace” person

KH Japanese Translations Part 5
Series where I discuss fantranslations I've seen of various scenes
< Part 4 > The other parts can be found under Part 4
Haven't done one of these in a few months 😅
.
.
In DDD, Riku talks with Quasimodo about appearances and says this,
The Japanese text:
"People can't be only judged by appearance. I have a friend who saw through my heart."
*He using the term kokoro for heart here*
English: "Trust me looks can be deceiving. A good friend sees you who you are no matter what face you wear."
The line about the heart is taken out completely. They both basically have the same meaning, but the original shows people judge you by things more than just how you look and your actions. Sora saw through his heart and saw who he was despite having Ansem's face.
The English version just simplifies it instead. He states looks are deceiving and a good friend sees for who you are. They have the same meaning but one refers to the heart and more about other things to judge someone on.
At the ending of DDD after Riku returns from Sora's heart he sees Sora eating cake. Sora rushes over to hug him and Riku asks multiple things, I'm going to point out one of the specific things I thought were interesting.
JPN: Why are you having a party without me?
ENG: And why are you having a party?
I think it's kinda funny how normally he is sadden that he got left out.
In Monstro during DDD, Riku is asked if he has someone like Jiminy. He responds with this:
JPN: It seems like he's always smiling. Aitsu teaches me all sorts of things.
Now if you remember the other translation reviews I made or just know about the word in general, Aitsu means someone and can be in a romantic sense. However, it is considered rude if you refer a girl this way and often it is towards a guy. And he obviously referring to Riku as he says he and is referring to Sora.
Eng: That stupid grin he's always wearing— he's the best teacher I could ever have.
The only difference is that the English has a more teasing or playful tone when he refers to his grin as stupid, but still refers to Sora as the best teacher.
Then when Sora is in Traverse Town and is talking to Joshua he says,
JPN: That's okay! Even if we can't see each other, I'm always connected to Riku with my heart.
English: Don't worry he's with me— even when it might seem like he's not.
This is like way off 😭. Maybe it was just too gay for them to do it correctly?? Censorship I swear 😭. They both have the initial meaning of oh we're connected wherever we are. But the JPN says with my heart and it just shows how Sora connects with his heart to Riku's.
In DDD at the end of Sora's story he encounters Xigbar who taunts him and he says this.
JPN: "It's only because your heart is connected to others that you're able to wield that power. You're not a true Keyblade wielder."
"It's fine that my power comes from everyone's hearts." Sora responds.
ENG:
"You're strong because of the ties you have with other people. As if the Keyblade would choose a wimp like you"
"I'm proud to be part of something bigger— the people it did choose. My friends they are my power."
In Xigbar JPN line it shows more about the connection between hearts. And tells him he's not a true Keyblade wielder. I noticed a lot of the lines about connections of the heart get erased within translation. And in the English he taunts Sora and calls him weak. I wonder if there is a catchphrase that Xigbar says in the Japanese or this ft just didn't have it??
Now with Sora line I'm not exactly sure which part is which but I'm pretty sure it's his catchphrase. But it's interesting since in the English he just says his friends are his power which seemingly has the same meaning as the JPN. Except if you think about their hearts giving him power then when everyone lost their hearts it makes sense why he felt powerless.
Riku at the end of the Notre Dame world is told something by Esmeralda.
JPN: "Everyone has a few things they want to keep in their hearts. You should find the answer slowly for yourself."
ENG: "We all do that sometimes. There are things we need to keep separate from the world at large, at least until we have time to figure them out"
They both have the same meaning mostly. However using heart here probably has more impact like it's more secretive and probably closer to hiding the darkness. His arc is about facing his darkness and still trying to overcome and not being afraid of it. They both are vague but talk about eventually figuring it out/finding the answer. And this probably refers to darkness.
Also if you ship SR this could also refer to him liking Sora and not saying anything or being afraid that he does.
At the end of DDD when Riku decides to make a second dive into Sora's heart he says this:
JPN: "It's not good if I don't go. I want to go"
Eng: "I heard him call my name. He needs me."
It's not much of a difference but the meaning is actually big by choosing want it shows he wants to do it. The localization choosing need shows he's going because he feels like he's needed just cause his name was called and not a personal choice. They're both good in different ways.
In 358/2 days/KH2, Riku fights Roxas to help Sora. It is just before he gives in to the darkness.
JPN: "You're really aitsu's nobody, after all. I guess I have to trust DiZ." I'm not going to explain the word since I already have earlier in the post.
Riku then explains he is going to have to do it, in which Roxas ask what and he responds, "The power sitting in my heart...the power suppressed by my heart... Even if I'm no longer me...the power of darkness"
ENG: "So it's true. You really are his nobody. Guess DiZ was right after all."
"I have to release the power in my heart— the dark power I've been holding back. Even if it changes me forever."
As much as I like the original way of how he said to describe the dark power, the phrasing flows better in the official localization. They both are basically the same except the Japanese describes the dark power. Also Riku calls Sora Aitsu.
Now I skipped a few lines of dialogue and this is because I want to eventually talk about the famous taunt quotes they have are significantly different in the versions
Finally for the last one, it is the taunt quote
JPN: Riku, "What's wrong, Sora? Are you done already? Pretty pathetic."
Sora, "What are you talking about? You’re the one who’s losing"
ENG: Riku, "Giving up already? Come on Sora I thought you were stronger than that."
Sora, "Get real, look which one of us is winning"
And the change is really interesting. In the JPN the first line is pretty much the same. Riku taunts him for "giving up" or not being able to and cause him pathetic. The ENG says, he thought he was stronger than that giving off the same taunting vibe.
Then Sora's line is actually more about Riku loosing. You're the one who is losing. The ENG localization is similar but it's vague on who is or who isn't winning. But saying losing shows that Riku is losing. But if he says Winning it could mean one wins but the other doesn't necessarily lose.
Also I'm going to be doing Part 6 really soon it's about Vanitas since I recently talked about his backstory in the novels.
So...I don't like most Axel ships since he's being shipped with little kids, but the JPN makes it understandable why some people might ship it even though it's weird and not good... 11 year age gap 😭
So when he was dying in kh2 he says Aitsu and then uh Roxas when he fighting Sora he says why did it have to be you but in JPN he refers to Axel sacrificing himself for him and being gone.... Yeahhhhh it's weird and maybe changing it was a good thing for this case cause don't ship them they're friends and more like guardian and family dynamic if anything.

AFFT Event 10/13/2017: Yuri-centric Parts
This one is a long one. But oh-so-worth-it. Some Yuri pieces of information translated from the AFFT Event October 13, 2017
Anime Film Festival (AFFT)
[TN: I believe the T stands for Tokyo]
A festival commemorating the 100th anniversary of anime. There was an all-night screening (for episodes 14-25 of Season 1), as well as a talkshow with members of the production team.
The production team attendees were Katsura Masakazu, Nishida Masafumi, and Producer Tamura Kazuhiko
Questions were accepted by the team here, and there was a special illustration released for the event.
An English translation of some information from the reports is available here:
Japanese sources available here and here.
TN: Please keep in mind there is no formal report for this event, so this is all information from the fans in attendance. I have no way of determining if Nishida and Katsura were joking with some of their answers, or if they are legit Yuri canon. Comments from the same person have been grouped together.
When did Yuri start using a black ribbon? (TN: How did Yuri's black ribbon come to be? - conceptually)
Katsura: Yuri's initial setting was (TN: Kotetsu's) a former partner with a lot of hair. Nishida-san joined and made him a judge, so I thought I had to tie his hair.
Does he eat ramen?
Katsura: People with darkness in their hearts don't eat ramen!
How does he cutdown on time at bedtime?
Katsura: He sleeps naked!
(TN: Lmao Katsura used "aitsu" - derogatory form of "That Guy")
Original Tweet
EVERYONE TAKE A DEEP BREATH. HE SLEEPS NAKED!!!!!!!!!
Yuri's black ribbon. His hair was designed at the character creation stage, but when the Judicial Bureau setting was added, it became a black ribbon according to the legal uniform. Naturally he cannot just put it on. I guess his hair is not tied (lit spreads) when he sleeps, and he's naked when he goes to bed! And Mr. Nishida. Yuri is naked when he sleeps...!
(Original Tweet is not public)
I REPEAT: HE SLEEPS NAKED!!!!!
The Great Ramen Debate:
Katsura's comments on darker minded people not eating ramen, sparked a debate between him and Nishida on whether Yuri eats ramen. Poor Tamura was the mediator.
They talked about why Yuri uses a hair ribbon and when he would tie it up.
→ Katsura: Puts on his administrator's work clothes and ties it at the end. Other than that, it's unkempt.
→ Nishida: You tie your hair up when you eat ramen, right?
Katsura-sensei: (Agrees) When you eat ramen, you do tie your hair up, but Yuri doesn’t eat ramen!
→ Nishida: He does! And he doesn't brush his hair with such slow movements, ties his hair with a ribbon like this: manly!
→ Things started heating up and Katsura-sensei's water (which was on the floor) spilled.
→ Katsura: Yuri doesn't care if his water spills.
→ Nishida: No, he'll wipe it!
It got heated again lol
→ Katsura kept objecting, so Nishida said, "Let's ask everyone! Who thinks Yuri blows on his water?
→ Many people in the audience raised their hands
→Nishida: Look!!!!
Blow → Wipe...wrong conversation!
Original Tweet
A fan drew a picture of Yuri eating ramen, sparked by the ramen argument
Questions arose about whether Yuri ties his hair up when eating ramen or whether he eats it at all.
Katsura: Dark people don't eat ramen!'
Nishida: No, he eats it!
What started it (the talk)? (It began with a ribbon...)
Original Tweet
I can't help but wonder if Katsura and Nishida are the inspiration for the dynamic between Kotetsu and Barnaby.
There were many entertaining moments like the ramen debate, such as a discussion on their attire. They were supposed to come to the event dressed casually (in TaiBani T-shirts) but Nishida showed up in a suit, so Katsura felt betrayed 🤣
A question about each other's fashion sense:
Katsura: The other day, you said you were thinking about wearing a TaiBani T-shirt.
Nishida: I often wear them... like the hoodie.
Katsura: So at first I was thinking of wearing a suit, but I didn't want to wear one. So I came dressed casually! I was betrayed!
Mr. Nishida came dressed in a suit (lol)
Nishida: No, I was really going to wear it! But prior to this, I had an interview for another work... I mean, I remembered.
Katsura: I remembered!
Nishida I'm sorry (lol)
Original Tweet
There was also another conversation about the Hero's summer attire, in which Katsura seemed hell-bent on having Keith wear white T-shirts that were 5 for ¥1000 (roughly CDN $2ea) Like he really wanted Keith to be a cheapskate 😭😭😭🤣
"It's not a polo shirt, right!?'' he (Katsura) complained to the audience. Immediately Nishida-san made a remark like "SH is a polo shirt.'' and Katsura-sensei emphasized, "SH is a white T-shirt that costs 1,000 yen for 5!!'' Mr. Nishida was convinced, and Mr. SH (lmao Katsura!) calmed down about the 5 white T-shirts for 1000 yen.
It all came together (laughs). Katsura-sensei then said, "SH is a white T-shirt that costs 1,000 yen for 5 pieces!'' Katsura-sensei seems to be very particular about SH white T-shirts that cost 1,000 yen for 5 pieces (lol). [TN: The rest of this was a question on who would wear a long t-shirt and Ivan was selected, SH long t-shirt]
Original Tweet
All-in-all, a great read! This fan summarized my takeaways best:
タイバニトークショー、桂先生の中ではユーリさんはダーティーな人だからラーメン食べない。パスタ派。ラーメン食べるときは髪の毛まとめない。寝るときは裸らしい!!!
わたしの中の月クラ心がざわつきましたww
TaiBani Talkshow: Katsura-sensei's Yuri is a dirty person! He won't eat ramen because he doesn't want to tie his hair back. (He's a) pasta person. And he sleeps naked!!!
My mind and heart are disturbed by the moon looool
Original Tweet
The most important thing to note is:
寝る時は裸族
THE PALE MAN SLEEPS NAKED.
Directly from Katsura's mouth.

Something I Just Thought About
I think the Aitsu thing in CoM mixed in with the mix of memories that Namine takes, that being a mix of Sora's memories of Kairi and seemingly of Riku as well, makes Sora's most precious person ambiguous.
I think it's ambiguous because it's meant to represent Sora's own heart pulling him in different directions. A part of Sora regrets going on the journey on KH1. A part of him wants to give up and go back home to Kairi and live out the rest of his life in peace. Something isn't allowing him to do that, and it's Riku and his own desire to have the three of them back together again.
Sora wants to be on the beach and watch sunsets again, but his vision for his life and desires are incomplete without Riku. So he keeps going for Riku and for King Mickey since Sora cares for Donald and Goofy too. The ambiguity of Sora's precious person, to me, represents Sora's fear that one day, he might have to choose between these two lives and therefore, his friends.

Oh my god I just had a thought.
What if Naminé is actually created not just from sora and kairi but Riku too?
She based the most important moments in Sora’s life off of his memories of Riku. She is fiercely protective of him despite hardly knowing him and having no experience with battle or confrontation. She has very strong feelings that are both her weakness and her strength. She is intricately connected to Riku as well.
What if like how Xion was made from sora and Roxas and memories of Kairi Naminé was made partly from Sora’s body, kairis heart, vens appearance, and riku’s light? Riku is the light and Naminé is the only other character who was able to use corridors of darkness without belonging to the darkness. And with the confusion of “aitsu” and Naminé slotting herself into Sora’s memories of Riku? Anything is possible in kh and I think this is super interesting to consider

Kirby Planet Robobot Translation Comparison: Before the Final Battle
This will be a comparison of the original Japanese version and the US English localized version.
Specifically, this will cover the last cutscene before the final battle of the game.
You can also watch this cutscene for yourself in English and Japanese.
For the comparison, the usual points apply:
Bolded is the original Japanese text, for the reference.
Bolded and italicized is my translation.
Italicized is the official NOA translation.
A (number) indicates that I have a specific comment to make on that part in the translation notes.
As you read this, please keep in mind that with translations like these, it’s important not to focus on the exact literal wordings, since there is no single “correct answer” when it comes to translations.
Rather than that, consider the actual information that is being conveyed, in which way, and why.

Before the Battle With Star Dream:
エリア7 マインド コントロールド バイ ア プログラム Mind controlled by a program
Area 7 Mind Controlled by a Program (1)
Area 7 Mind in the Program
Secretary Susie:
...Well, didn't expect THIS to happen...
...This wasn't supposed to happen!
Secretary Susie:
...This isn't funny in the slightest.
No! I won't let it!
Secretary Susie:
You know, I just wanted to steal Star Dream...
All I wanted was to steal Star Dream!
Secretary Susie:
I wanted to make him pay, make him come to his senses...
And teach the old man a lesson.
Secretary Susie:
That was all, really.
Was that too much to ask?
Secretary Susie:
So, why...
Look at this mess...
Secretary Susie:
Why should I let some crazy machine destroy me?! (2)
I'm not going to stand here and be destroyed by some crazy machine!
Secretary Susie:
...Alright, get in, pink native.
...There. Get in, pinky.
Secretary Susie:
Take this armor, hurry after that machine...
Take this armor and go!
Secretary Susie:
And smash it to pieces!!
Stop that machine!
Secretary Susie:
Please... Kirby of the Stars...
Please... Little pinky!
Secretary Susie:
You have to...
You have to stop it!
Secretary Susie:
You have to... stop him...! (3)
If anyone can do it, it's you!
Translation Notes:
I’ll go over it in more detail in the section below, but this Area’s title is actually written in English in the Japanese version. Since this is English written from the perspective of Japanese-speakers, it should maybe not be taken exactly literally, which is likely why the official English version changed it slightly.
Since this line is a follow-up of the one before it, I had to translate them a bit loosely so that I could have them match in English as well.
Because of how grammar works in Japanese, the verb in this sentence is originally the final word that is said. Since Susie is also hesitating before saying it, it gives off the impression that she might’ve intended to use a different verb before changing her mind.
--
Comparisons & Thoughts:
This section will be a bit shorter than last time, but there’s still several details I want to go over for a bit.
We have reached the final main story cutscene of the game after all, so even some smaller details here are wrapping up threads that have been present throughout the narrative.
But it’s also going to be more straightforward, as I’ll go through them in the order as they come up in the scene.
-
In the Japanese version, the final Area is called “Mind controlled by a program“, which the English version changed to “Mind in the Program“.
As I mentioned above, we should keep in mind that this Area is literally called “Mind controlled by a program” in English in the Japanese version, so the intended meaning might not be exactly what it appears to be to a native English speaker.
One meaning that comes to mind is “mind-controlled by a program”, so, the state of being mind-controlled or brainwashed by a program.
I do think that’s likely what it’s meant to invoke, alluding to Star Dream’s potential influence on Haltmann, but there might be other aspects to it, too.
For example, one interpretation I have seen from Japanese fans is closer to “mind, controlled by a program”. In other words, a mind or heart that is controlled by a program.
This interpretation is interesting to me, because it can potentially apply to not just Haltmann, but Star Dream as well.
If you look at the story as a whole, a potential “tragedy” of both these characters is that they couldn’t see beyond the “program” and as a result lose themselves in some shape or form.
Or at least, that’s one way I’d put it.
Of course, I can’t say for sure if anything like that was the intention, but I do think it’s likely that the title was supposed to be vague in a way where there could be multiple interpretations.
Because of that, I think it makes sense for the English version to adapt the Area title as “Mind in the Program” rather than keeping it the same.
It’s a bit different, but there’s a similar vagueness to it where it can mean different things depending on how one looks at it.
-
A small detail, but when Susie starts talking to Kirby at the start of this cutscene, the Japanese version has her seemingly talk in a low voice, using a lot of ellipses, making this like a quiet moment of reflection for her, as she gathers her bearings.
And then, the quiet mood is broken by her raising her voice again and going “Why should I let some crazy machine destroy me?!“, shifting the focus back to the problem at hand.
In the English version, the flow is slightly different, with her seemingly starting out with her voice raised, then quieting down as she reflects more on what happened, before raising her voice again.
-
In the Japanese version, Susie says she wanted to "make him pay, make him come to his senses…”, and the English version says she wanted to ”teach the old man a lesson”.
I think the wording of “teaching a lesson” is a good way of combining the idea of “make him pay” and “make him come to his senses” into one phrase.
But the idea of “make him come to his senses” specifically can be a bit less apparent there, making Susie’s intentions less clear to some, from what I’ve seen.
Also for the reference, in the Japanese version Susie refers to Haltmann as アイツ/aitsu here, which can be translated as something like “that guy”, and it’s something that can come off as somewhat rude when used for someone you’re not too familiar with.
The English version probably went for “the old man” to adapt this to allude to that implied familiarity, though it also comes off a bit stronger than the Japanese one.
I think that works well in this case though.
-
Another little thing, but in the Japanese version Susie tells Kirby to go after the machine and “smash it to pieces!!“, while in the English version she just tells him to “Stop that machine!“
So Japanese Susie is slightly more extreme there.
-
As mentioned in previous parts, the Japanese version exclusively had Susie call Kirby either “native” or “pink native” whenever she addressed him.
The pay-off of that trend happens in this cutscene, where Susie finally calls Kirby by his full title, “Kirby of the Stars”, after he’s taken off.
Since this also implies she knew his name all along, her using it now could be a sign of Kirby having earned her respect, or to show that she’s really being genuine here, or something to that effect.
In the English version, the way Susie refers to Kirby has been slightly less consistent, but in this cutscene she simply refers to him as “pinky”.
Kirby doesn’t have a full title in English, so using that wouldn’t be possible, so I think using “pinky” might have been meant to convey her being more casual with Kirby?
But I think they easily could’ve just had her call him “Kirby” in this cutscene, too.
It also doesn’t have the same effect as in Japanese, where she only stops calling him “native” and uses his real name once he’s already taken off, being the last time in the game where she refers to him.
It’s a small detail at the end of the day, but in the Japanese version, this moment is like the figurative cherry on top that closes out Susie’s character and her relationship with Kirby in the main story, so I think it’s a bit of a shame it’s not in the English version in some form.
-
Last point to go over for this cutscene.
In the Japanese version, Susie’s final lines are:
You have to…
You have to… stop him…!
And in the English version, her final lines are:
You have to stop it!
If anyone can do it, it’s you!
First off, in the Japanese version Susie specifically tells Kirby to stop Haltmann, using the same アイツ/aitsu she used to refer to him earlier in the scene, making it clear that’s who she means.
In the English version she’s telling Kirby to stop “it” instead, likely referring to Star Dream, or perhaps just the situation as a whole.
Adding to that, Susie also seems more hesitant in the Japanese version, which leads to an interesting point of speculation.
Like I mentioned in the translation notes, the way Japanese grammar works makes it possible that Susie may have wanted to use another verb first, before changing her mind and settling on “stop”.
Again, this is only speculation, but it feels like Susie may have wanted to say “You have to save him” first, but then stopped herself from saying that.
There’s also another detail to this that didn’t exactly fit the translation notes section, which is that in Japanese, she adds the word もう/mou in her final line, which literally means “already”.
And that basically makes her final line closer to something like “Now you have to stop him” or “At this point, you have to stop him”, but I couldn’t really include that in my translation without sounding awkward in English.
But the point is that this phrasing basically means that Susie is indirectly saying that now there is no other choice left but to stop Haltmann. In other words, it’s too late for anything else to be done.
So, regardless of whether you imagine she wanted to say “You have to save him” first or not, the Japanese version of her lines here has this feeling of resignation to them.
The English version doesn’t really carry that same feeling here.
-
And that’s it for this part.
I have similar feelings about this cutscene like I had about the previous one.
The English version is accurate for the most part as usual, it’s perfectly fine.
But, this late in the game, seeing the various small set-ups from the Japanese version pay off during the climax, whereas they don’t really do the same in English, it does make me feel like the English version is slightly lacking by comparison.
Especially Susie’s final moments in the main story here, where the Japanese version has her seemingly show some vulnerability and be genuine, which doesn’t come across quite as well in the English version.
But that’s just me pointing out the things that bother me slightly, I still think the English localization of this game is very good, as I said before.
Now, this may have been the final main story cutscene, but we still have the extra story to go through, so feel free to check that out in the next part!

---
No real notes, but if the title seems a bit nonsensical, it’s partly a play on the title of the song “Please Mr. Postman” (which Tsunku’s beloved Beatles covered) and a reference to one of S/mileage’s original group gimmicks as “idols in cute miniskirts”.
Also, the Tsunku liner notes are super-cute this time too, so I’ve translated them below:
This is S/mileage's 8th single counting from their major debut (12th single total).
Maeda Yuuka, who is graduating with this single. One last letter, given to her.
That sounds cool to say, but since in reality she's graduating at the end of the year, it's both a last present to her and a final message from her to all of her fans.
The theme is "the inner conflict of a girl deeply in love".
She's suddenly hyper-aware of the boy who she used to play with together just two or three years ago with a "you're not a man, I'm not a woman, we're childhood friends!" kind of mood. Last year, she didn't think anything of getting a piggyback ride from him during the school's sports day, and yet now just thinking of touching his hand makes her heart race.
That sort of “growing up girlish heart”, Using the premise "If I become a postman, could I deliver my own heart to him?", I finished the song.
Then, when I was trying out all sorts of things, it became a song full of "hooks". The "koi wo shiteru" part at the beginning is catchy, but The part at "kou iu no ga koi kashira" is also a hook. The "MINISUKA~ POSUTOU~MAN" part is also a hook, but The part I'd like you to sing the most is probably still "koi wo shiteru jikaku shoujou" after all.
When I think of the new members, the one who absolutely does not have the stage experience to match the original members is only Nakanishi from Osaka, so at first I was really wondering how it'd turn out. You'll understand what I mean if you watch this video:
youtube
But she worked hard from that point, and so they were able to finish the music video. For the music video and on the CD jacket, from this song forward, the four who became full members will also appear in fully short skirts!
The leader, Wada, has become really reliable. She's also improving her singing. Fukuda Kanon's singing is an extremely important point for the current S/mileage. From the new members, Takeuchi has a high level of dependability to both her dance movements and good singing. Sometimes there are also times when the movement levels of her dance is TOO MUCH, but well, she's young after all. Tamura has high self-direction/production ability (idk what the English term for this is, but basically she can "direct" herself, knows how to sing/dance/face the camera to show off her best side). She's still young, but she can look at a lot of things with a cool head. She's a cunningly cute girl. Katsuta was really happy to be put in S/mileage. That's the best. As for Nakanishi, as I said before, she's a backward learner, but she's got a tremendous smile, she's a great funnyman and she's got guts. Just with the combination of those three things, she's got no problem at all. And lastly, there's Maeda. I wrote it at the beginning too, but she's going to graduate. There were so many things I wanted to test out with her, but the person herself is choosing a different path and is setting off. That's also life. I want her to do her best.

Len Kagamine X Fan!Reader -Part 2-
Request from an internet friend~
Word Count: 1,555
Category: Vocaloid
This took quite a bit of work. Putting in not only the dancing motions but also the lyrics. They not only had to be in English but in Romaji! Hopefully, I did it correctly so you can understand what is going on!
-Mod Icarus
~My Idol~
"Wow," you whispered out in pure awe.
"I know right!" Your best friend (BF/n) shouted in excitement.
Truthfully it was a bit too noisy for your liking, but you easily put up with it for the reason being you were in the very front row. An added bonus was that you were in the direct middle.
The shouting of thousands of girls multiplied as Len and Rin entered the massive stage full of neon lights with a digital background, Vocaloid's signature style. You smiled softly as Len and Rin waved ecstatically to the ginormous crowd. They blew a few kisses and did a few moves riling up the crowd as they were ready to begin.
Then something you had never thought would be witnessed by yourself happened. The crowds cheer hushed to a small hum. If a pin dropped you would have heard it everywhere. You could even hear peoples breathing as the lights dimmed momentarily, sibling its start. Then all at once, it started with a growing bang of thrilled voices and dancing.

You could see the small, yet bigger than normal, tv in the middle signaling the lyrics of 'L R L R'. On the right, you could see Rin with a video game controller over her face while Len on the left had a remote control over his.
The hush that filled the entire stadium was back in full force as they sang, none of them missing a single beat for many of them knew it by heart, just like you..
Kore ga watashi wo rimo-to kontoro-ru suru kikai desu
Sukoshi hizuna katachi shiteorimasu ga, tsukaemasu.
This is my remote control device.
It’s a little broken, but it’s still usable.
R
It started off as usual as she stood up, the device still in front of her face. As she sang it came off, people yelling louder, her then pointing to it as it is outstretched.
Mou chotto de soto ni derareru nonina
Douyatte mo umakuikane.
Madamada tarinai Foooooooo!!!
I should spend more time outdoors.
How will that turn out?
It’s still not enough.
You grin widened as you slowly started to move to the rhythm as you gained confidence. Watching as Len and Rin began dancing together. You honestly thought it was a funny dance, but it fit them perfectly as twins.
Suwaru suwaru oh SIT DOWN PLEASE YEAH!

The motor is roaring now
Dance, dance, oh DANCIN' NIGHT YEAH!
Rises in full in the mashup
Come on, raise your voice, oh SING IN' NOW YEAH!
I want to sing better than she ever did
As they continued to dance you couldn't help but admire their teamwork and flawless match.

Rin repeats her lines as she stares at her own remote and then back at Len who is watching the tv.
Karakatteru mitainai tsumono kao
Kyou wa kanari honki daze?
Horasugu kime ruze
Even though my face always looks like I’m joking
Today I’m quite serious
Soon, you can decide for yourself
You can see the distress on Rin's face as she messes with her remote. But her face then lights up as she figures out how to control it.
Suwaru suwaru oh SIT DOWN PLEASE YEAH!

Wait a sec, we’re going on standby
Dance, dance, oh DANCIN' NIGHT YEAH!
A perfect rhythm comes out
Come on, shout it loud, oh SING IN' NOW YEAH!
I want to sing higher than that guy ever could
Even as Rin controlled Len and made him move in random directions you could see a smile plastered on his face, having fun with the dancing. You tugged a (H/c) hair strand behind your ear as you anticipated the next lines.
Horeta hare tano nanairo samurai
Arai zarai shuchou suru sonzai
Omoichigai ga suke eru anbai
Kowai kuraino wktk joutai
Kini shinainoga anata no porishi-?
Nayan deitemo hara wa herushi

(iiiiiiiiiiiiii....)
uhhhh.. WOW!!!
A rainbow samurai fell in love
And laid claim to everything in existence
The misconception was a transparent seasoning
A scary state of wktk*
Don’t you care about your policy?
Even if my suffering was reduced
Somehow the rest of the world is just fine
Don’t do anything rash, you lukewarm youth
Your lips silently moved along with Len's as he began to sing his first solo words. Your heart skipped a beat as Len's eyes caught and locked with your own. His eyes softened as he sent a small wave towards your direction. A few girls around you swooned thinking it was for them, but you knew better and blushed as you waved back, both of you still singing.
Mouchottode sukima umaru nonina
Douyatte mo umakuikane.
Ah, mou jikan ga tarinai
Buried just a little bit deeper
How will that turn out?
Still, time isn’t enough
You watched as Rin in her chair fake laughed at Len as he dropped to his hands and knees in exhaustion.
Mou chotto de soto ni derareru nonina
Douyatte mo umakuikane .
Mmadamada tarinai Foooooooo!!!
You couldn't help, but laugh at this too. His acting was good and helped the audience get into the right mood.
Suwaru suwaru oh SIT DOWN PLEASE YEAH!
Fi-dobakku ni karada azukete
Meguru meguru oh TURN IT AROUND YEAH!

The motor is roaring now
Dance, dance, oh DANCIN' NIGHT YEAH!
Rises in full in the mashup
Come on, raise your voice, oh SING IN' NOW YEAH!
I want to be a human like her
You sighed a bit realizing these were the last words before the last chorus to the end of the song. But your hopes were still up as they sang with more enthusiasm the more it went on. The blush was still on your cheeks and it had stayed there as he would always catch your eyes every so often as he sang.

The song died down and you could only clap and whistle the loudest you could hoping Len could hear you over many of his fans.
It worked when you saw him look down at you. His mouth formed into a bright smile blowing you a small kiss.
Such a flirt, you thought.
You pretended to catch it, throwing Len a bit off guard making him blush at your actions.
Rin and Len bowed together, standing up to bask just for a few seconds in the light and noise of their loyal fans.
Exiting the stage you leaned against the gate as another Vocaloid entered the stage. This time it was (Y/c). Which happened to be (BF/n)'s idol. You giggled seeing them jump up and down waving to their idol who was onstage.
Your idol was such a cute person

Recoded anniversary was yesterday and I missed it. It's the game that had so many precious Soriku moments.
Data Riku saves Sora after being unarmed.
Data Sora saves Riku after getting kidnapped and then goes into his data to help bring him back.
Data Riku tries to apologize for everything but Sora won't have it because he loves him and wants to help Riku regardless.
I love how the fandom as a whole all agrees the ending of recoded didn't happen. Why did they have to lose the memories. Why couldn't they just be silly and hang out whenever?
Data Sora & Data Riku are not the same as the other Riku and Sora by the way. Data Sora is also able to face hurt while the other Sora isn't. The reason for this is because Data Sora is what people think he is supposed to be like, but it's not actually what he is like.
However, it's one of the masks the other Sora has so people assume it's accurate which is why Sora couldn't handle hurt but the data version could. Sora uses smiles to pretend he's okay because he feels like he has to show everyone he is okay when in reality he isn't. He would rather everyone else be okay than himself.
Anyways I love Data Sora and Riku, they're so cute on screen. And I just love their little interactions.

why kairi might be the one who manipulated sora's memory
yes you read that right, and no i did not mis-type this (if you're thinking hey that should be namine!)
i was going back a few times to kh3 and i found many patterns and cutscenes in 3 that can be compared to previous installments of the game, even side by side, this one particularly caught my eye:
crazy am i right
so remember that scene in 3 where sora falsely exclaimed "the light in the darkness" to be kairi? (it's actually riku) where sora and kairi goes enters the light to made it back to the real world
previous clip in link because tumblr isn't working with me ("riku, answer me!!" comparison with "okay! i have to protect them (aitsu)! Namine can you hear me?")
as you've seen in the comparison i realized it probably a direct paralell to namine's fake meteor shower scene back in COM Sora's side. And these lines of dialogue in particular interest me
it got me thinking, and i think that kairi purposely did something to sora's memory at some point in their lives. The exact when i'm not too sure, but she had inserted herself into some of riku's part in sora's life as sora's taisetsu na hito (special someone)
i know this sounds crazy, but i think there's a valid reason to this theory
Why??
the motive is clear: that kairi is lonely. i personally relate to her character struggle, loneliness can be suffocating, just like how namine portrayed hers that resulted to the events in COM
kairi's main theme has always been about 'seperation' and being left behind by sora and riku. so it would make sense for her to crave attention
kairi might feel sad that sora and riku doesn't pay attention to her unlike how they pay attention to each-other, so i don't see it as off character for her to insert herself into a fake picture if she had the chance, especially as the love interest of her crush
she even said this back in KH1 which sora responded with "Huh!? What's gotten into you?"
or is it done out of malicious intentions? there might be a possibility for that, but i don't think it is as it goes against kingdom hearts thematic story that stays consistent over the years, that portrays every character struggle in a sympathetic way that honestly you can relate too
(xehanort is even a subject to this in dark road)
i think that kairi felt really guilty about it and didn't realized the impact that she had done to sora and riku's relationship. or maybe she thrived for it, because even if the affection is not real, kairi is still loved and remembered by someone as their precious person, and it feels nice especially with someone like sora
snippet from kh3 novel
in the novels, there's a strong hint that kairi cut her hair because riku cut his, which contributes a lot to the theory of kairi wanting to be sora's precious person (riku) where she somewhat mimics his behavior (she probably realized deep down sora cares more about riku than her)
Passing Memories
i think this also made sense lore wise, because why else would sora suddenly lost his memory of riku? and i don't think sora's sort-of infatuation with kairi is caused by comphet alone
forgotten promises is a recurring theme in sora and riku's relationship, everything up to this point has always leads to hidden thoughts and burried memories, you have to dig deeper if you want to find a connection between sora and riku, the examples currently are:
whatever is happening between soriku
passing memories jp name of oblivion keyblade that is owned by roxas
riku is the TRUE light
necklace theory: the fact that THE necklace is everywhere in the game but is never brought up like ever
aitsu (check full discussion on the internet)
COM the game (just everything related to COM, the only game with riku and sora beside DDD? it's sus if you ask me)
compared to sora and kairi who's relationship always seems shallow and on the surface. i think it made more sense with the 'why' factor answered, because every time sora is thinking of riku, kairi would replace herself in his position, just like the light-tunnel scene in kh3
the 'oathkeeper' (promise charm) and 'oblivion' (passing memories) also reflected sora keeping his promise to kairi, but forgetting about his to riku, riku might not be affected in the same way that sora does, so this happens:
+ the multiple and many instances, riku is straight up covered by kairi
some of those instances:
kairi is true darkness (ex: sea is metaphor for darkness)
xion (is said to be kairi but proven also to also be riku)
the final world
Power?
honestly, i think kairi is more than she lets on (like LUXU), let's talk about her nobody:
i think it's already suspicious that namine has the power to mess with sora's memories (because she's from kairi's body and sora's heart?) when existing nobodies like roxas and xion for example has powers directly tied to their somebodies (kingdom key), xehanort doing xehanort things, marluxia possessing the same rose petals as his somebody counterpart, (and a lot more...)
so, with a game like kingdom hearts, does namine's powers really came out of no where? we know that sora doesn't have the ability to manipulate people's memories, so who else could it be?? kairi's powers might even be more powerful
this would also aligns with the theory 'riku is light-kairi is darkness' because even at front value the game is telling you 'hey kairi is LIGHT and riku is DARKNESS' time and time again its always the reverse in certain situations, but you never got to wonder what it actually mean
yes riku is the light, but why is kairi the darkness?? yes she sort-of brings demise as xehanort's pawn, but is it really just that?
lastly, kairi is a princess of heart, and might even came from the lost masters era as it is decorated and spammed with stars (every symbol is replaced by stars i'm not joking)
it's very on-theme with the 'traitor' plot point that has been consistent in every khux game, so... (i have a theory that kairi is master ava, or master ava is her grandma, OR kairi is mom... or skuld)
in addition to all of this, i also think that kairi can also be a creature, maybe she's actually a chirithy:
however i do think as opposed to riku as a dreameater (spirit), kairi is a nightmare chirithy, as seen in their color pallet (might be a coincidence but who knows)

(Kimi no Kami) - Sori Sawada [lyric and english translation]
Kimi no Kami (Your Hair) by Sori Sawada Official Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6kNjeYzFvY
My favorite version of this song is the cover by いゔどっと. His voice really suits this song, and I especially like the emotion he put in his voice. You can check it out here.
kimi ga kami wo kitta riyuu wo boku wa kikenai. ano nagai kami wa yoku niatteta kedo. sore wa, tabun aitsu no sei nandarouna. aa, kuyashii na.
I can’t ask you the reason why you cut your hair. Your long hair suited you perfectly, though. I think, this is probably his fault. Aah, how frustrating.
kimi ga kami wo kitta riyuu wo boku wa kikanai. dareka no konomi ka, soretomo shitsuren ka. yappa, nagai hou ga niau to omou naa. boku wa sou omou yo.
I won’t ask you the reason why you cut your hair. It might be because of someone‘s preferences, or your broken heart. I knew it, long hair suits you better. At least that’s what I thought.
machiawase ni wa okurenai. musekinin na kotoba mo tsukawanai. narubeku hippatteiku kara. korobisou nara te wo kasu yo. dakara to itte, kimi no tonari ni irareru wake janai. wakatteru. nakigoto kurai, iwasete kure yo.
I won’t be late for our appointment. I also won’t use irresponsible words. I will try to lead you as much as I can. I will give you my hand when you fall. All that said, still, I can’t be the one to stay by your side. I know. But please at least let me tell my sorrows.
tanjoubi mo wasurezuni. kinenbi datte chanto iwaou. hanataba wo motteiku kara. hanashi datte majime ni kiku. wakatteirunda. ima, koko ni aru no wa kimi ga kami wo kitta jijitsu dake.
I also won’t forget your birthday. Let’s properly celebrate our anniversary too. I will bring a bouquet of flowers for you. I will also listen to your talk seriously. I know it already. What happened here is only the fact that you cut your hair.
kimi no suki na uta ga, ima ja boku no suki na uta da. sou yatte, kimi wa mae ni susundeiku. itsunomanika, kimi yori kuwashikunatteita. warattekure yo. sayonara teido mo dekinakattanda.
The song that you like, is already my favorite song by now. Just like that, you keep going forward. Before I know it, I know the details of the song better than you. You can sneer at me. I can’t even do a simple goodbye.
machiawase ni wa okurenai. musekinin na kotoba mo tsukawanai. narubeku hippateiku kara. korobisou nara te wo kasu yo. dakara to itte, kimi no tonari ni irareru boku janai. wakatteru. boku wa aitsu ni wa narenai.
I won’t be late for our appointment. I also won’t use irresponsible words. I will try to lead you as much as I can. I will give you my hand when you fall. All that said, the one who can stay by your side is not me. I know. I could never become like him.
kuyashii kedo, mitomeru yo. mijikai kami mo yoku niatteta. chanto, umaku yatteiru mitai. sabishii kedo, ureshii yo. wakatteitanda. ima, koko ni aru no wa kimi ga kami wo kitta riyuu dake.
It’s frustrating, but I will admit it. Short hair also suits you nicely. You look more reliable and dependable. It makes me feel lonely, but I’m happy for you. I knew it all along. What going on here is only the reason you cut your hair.
boku mo, aruite miru kara. kurushikute, hikatteita hibi wo kitte hanasu yo. jaa ne.
I’ll try to move forward, too. It’s painful, so I’ll cut and let go of these brilliant days. Goodbye.
kimi ga kami wo kitta no wa. The reason you cut your hair is.
I’m glad I loved you. I really thought so. I hope there won’t be any spark left on my heart.
kimi ga kami wo kitta riyuu wo boku wa kikanai I won’t ask you the reason why you cut your hair

(Natsu no Angel) - Lyrics
song (spotify) Japanese/Romaji/English lyrics under the cut
Lonely summer days
Lonely summer days
Goodbye angel

--
I’m a pathetic guy who can only look from afar, but we’ve messed around together, so I know you’re really a coward When our friend said “You 2 are kinda alike,” we looked over at each other I wonder what you had thought in that moment But your heart was already among the waves
I can’t take it, I can’t take it I wanna hold you right now I want to make you forget all about the love you had this summer I’ll never get back those days we laughed and cried; destroyed by love in these lonely summer days
Because we’ve acknowledged each other, when I learned you were with him I was trapped by thoughts I couldn’t shake, but acted like normal Because I love you, even if I force myself to acknowledge your relationship, you’ll just end up grabbing my attention again The more I think about you, the more I can’t let you go
I can’t take it, I can’t take it I wanna hold you right now I want to make you forget all about the love you had this summer I’ll never get back those days we laughed and cried; destroyed by love in these lonely summer days
I scoop up the orange sand, and it keeps slipping through my fingers Because of this overblown summer scenario, I can’t keep living like this
I can’t take it, I can’t take it I wanna hold you right now I want to make you forget all about the love you had this summer I’ll never get back those days we laughed and cried; destroyed by love in these lonely summer days This is my final “goodbye, angel”

DSoE: MotHY; Chapter 7-The End of the Capriccio
Master of the Heavenly Yard chapter content summary under the cut.
-Scene 1
Quotes a part of one of Irina's monologues in Pierrot where she expressed the desire to have a family and kids.
-Scene 2
The girl was a doll from the moment she was born. She had no mother, but she had Gallerian. He made sure she never felt lonely. He was her "father" and she was his "daughter". She couldn't walk, so he filled her room with various things. A red wineglass, a blue spoon--they all had hearts. She called the wineglass her "big sis" and called the spoon her "big brother" (affectionate terms).
Eventually the theater was built in the forest, and she was brought there, along with all the various articles. Then they added more. Wineglass, spoon, blade, mirrors, and scissors. Gallerian would come visit her, but one day he died in a fire from a war.
She had been with Gallerian when his house burned down, having been brought there quite suddenly. She used her hidden power of blue flames to burn his enemies, but in the end they set fire to the house and killed him. Then when she came to she was back in the theater. She thought it was a dream but she was covered in burns. The Sorceress of Time came to the theater.
The girl lived there for a while. Then some things changed. The woman in the wineglass got a new body that one of her underlings made. She arrived with Lich, Eater, and the twin servants Arte and Pollo. They spent a lot of time in the graveyard, so she called the woman the "Master of the Graveyard". Then the sorceress brought a girl named "Postman" to the theater. She never spoke, so the doll girl didn't like her much. Postman got along well with Arte, and spent a lot of time with her (the doll, for the record, still can't walk). One day, Postman was able to talk. Arte said that she'd lent her her body, as Postman's old one seemed broken. Lich made Arte a new body. Postman seemed to be waiting for someone, so the doll girl named her Waiter.
One day, the man in the spoon suddenly grew cold towards her, telling her she wasn't Eve. Which she is not. She decided to give him a present to make up for it. In the corner of her heart (mind?) she had a blueprint for a black box. She gave him the black box built using it (I think she built it but not sure). He seemed to realize something upon seeing it, and he left. She remembered him every time the clocktower's hands moved (chimed? idk). She thought that he must have become one of the "gears" in the clocktower.
The forest becomes a bit of a mess, because the sorceress wasn't doing her job as "gardener". They needed someone to control the forest, to protect the theater. One more strange thing happened. The doll got pregnant.
The cursed man was captured by Eater. The girl put him on trial, acting like her father as Master of the Court. But Waiter stopped her from sentencing him to death, and convinced her to make him into the new "gardener". They all lived together, and the girl came to be called the "doll director".
One day she gave birth to twins. Twins who would make a new era. She named them "Adam" and "Eve". And then immediately after, the world was destroyed.
-Scene 3
Riliane's not sure how to get into a theater that's floating. Venomania offers to carry them up and fly with his wings. That solves that, but there's also a regiment of Tasan soldiers under the theater. They're sure to shoot at them while they head up there. And there's too many of them for a direct attack. Venomania lists their number as 2 (him and Kayo) when talking about their odds, which leads to Riliane and him discussing her combat capabilities, which results in her getting so offended she inadvertently reveals their position to the soldiers.
Venomania grabs them and takes flight. He dodges the soldier's gunfire. He can't use his charms on them--they only work on the opposite sex and the soldiers are mostly men (and I just gotta add that Riliane seems to bicker with him a lot and it's funny). They manage to get out of range of the soldiers, but then Kayo points out in the distance men with (artillery cannons?). Kayo gets shot in the right shoulder.
Venomania notices that the soldiers on the ground are screaming about something, which becomes apparent as they all stop moving and completely freeze over (as in, ice). It's not Kayo's work, nor Venomania's, nor Riliane's. Venomania once again focuses on getting to the theater.
[There is a picture here of Venomania flying with Riliane and Kayo in each arm.]
Riliane realizes that it was her father, Hanma, who had always been looking out for her (her father as Lilith, that is).
-Scene 4
Riliane reflects on her nostalgia at having come back here, where she once lived. She explains to Kayo that she lived her before the world was destroyed, coming here as Postman, who had lost her own will. She had gotten that, and a new body, thanks to Arte. But she'd hidden that from Ma. She wonders if it was a mistake to kill Ma to save Nemesis. It ended up leading to the world ending. But then, Nemesis would have died otherwise. She's never known what was right in her lives, even after the fact.
She shakes it off. They run into the Sleep Princess as they're heading inside. Riliane declares her intention to seal her in the doll, but she is unfazed. Riliane has forgotten how she's supposed to do that. Riliane tries to bluff but the Sleep Princess explains she isn't looking for a fight. She just wants to get rid of the contractor souls from the world. It's not that she hates them--she actually doesn't want to do it. But she must to save the world. She says she'll show them the truth, and beckons for them to follow her into the hall.
Kayo and Venomania discuss whether it's a trap or not before Riliane decides that they all follow along. They're heading for the director's room, which is likely to have Gammon, Gallerian, and the "doll director" (also idk if this was established in Enbizaka, but Kayo can't read English).
-Scene 5
Gammon is in the chair the "doll director" once sat in. Gallerian is standing next to him. There's another door that leads further in from that room, and they can hear children's voices from inside. The Sleep Princess is nowhere to be seen--she might be in that interior room. Riliane greets Gammon, and he recognizes her as Waiter. She chides him for forgetting his debt to her, but he says he has his reasons. They say that the sleep princess has yet to tell them.
Gammon says that the sleep princess (Michelle) is indisposed at the moment, and offers the information he knows. Venomania interrupts to note how similar he looks--Gammon explains he's Venomania's descendent.
The theater is not an illusion, but the real thing. Gammon explains that Adam, who is a "Gear" in the clocktower, did something to recreate the theater after its destruction (it's vague on what he did). It's thought he did this to protect the Doll Director. He also made the theater float, though that's because he's a child.
When pressed on this, he clarifies that Adam has recently become a child. He was reborn as son of the doll director. Kayo asks where the doll director is, and Gammon points at the ceiling. He explains that the entire theater is her new body. Then they hear the sound of something from the entrance, and Gammon goes to see who it is, telling Gallerian to continue the conversation. He sits in Gammon's chair and takes over.
He points out that Riliane is holding the doll that the director dwelled in. Ma put her there. She tricked Gallerian into thinking it was his daughter, but in truth it's the "Red Cat Sorceress", Irina. Venomania realizes he's talking about IR. She spent the latter end of the millennium as part of Ma. But Ma wanted to get rid of her, as she sought to be a pure being and Irina got in the way of that. So she put her soul in the doll.
Riliane asks what their goals are. Gallerian says they want to remake the world. They already have everything they need; the theater, and the twins. At this point the inner door opens a little, and they can see the sleep princess (it seems she's really Michelle after all?) playing with the twins. The boy is Adam, and the girl is Eve (the "Demon of Sloth"). Michelle made a "contract" with her, and thus obtained power as the Sleep Princess.
They were incarnated the same way Levia became Nemesis. The doll director gave birth immediately before the world ended. As such, they became souls without an ego (will, personality). Apparently they obtained wills by fusing with new souls.
Kayo expresses incredulity at a doll giving birth. Gallerian points out that sometimes things outside the norm happen in this world. Children being born between a mud human and human woman, a virgin witch getting pregnant--people who are born this way are always called "Irregular", and have blonde hair. They are the "golden key" to remaking the world.
For future reference, it's clear that when these people (they're trying to get the Court Ending) say remaking the world, they mean reviving it as it was. They're not talking about making a new world with new people in it. Just to be clear.
Venomania suddenly goes to punch Gallerian, but Gallerian catches his fist. Venomania demands to know where he got this information--he was in hell the whole time. Gallerian says it was the Moon Goddess. In hell, Gallerian found a path to the "graveyard". With his blackbox he was able to read the mind of the Moon Goddess.
He punches Venomania in the stomach. He continues saying that when he left hell after the world was destroyed, he ran into Michelle. Gallerian raises his fist again, but Riliane stops him. She asks if it was after that that he ran into Gammon and the three of them started their evil conspiring. Gallerian says they're not being evil. They're doing everything to save the world. They're not erasing just their target contractors. Gallerian and Michelle will be disappearing too. He then says "they" (gender neutral pronoun aitsu) want all 7 chosen contractors. Just the demons alone won't be enough to become a "pure being".
At that moment, the door slams open, and Banica enters along with Lich and the servants. Venomania introduces himself to Banica when she asks about him, and she says he's her ancestor (Venomania's met quite a few descendants of his today. Kayo's one too). Banica explains that Gammon is currently fighting with two of her "subordinates" in the hall, and then signals to her servants.
-Scene 6
Gammon is fighting with Nemesis and Allen. Allen and Gammon are swordfighting. Gammon pulls a gun on him, and Allen dodges. Allen rebukes him using a gun, but Gammon is a soldier, not a swordsman. He also points out that it's two against one. Nemesis shoots at him and knocks his sword out of his hand. Allen lunges at him, but Gammon turns his gun on him. After a bit more fighting he grabs Allen by the bangs and shoves the gun against his head.
Nemesis fires on him again. She misses. They fight a little more before Nemesis points out that while Gammon is holding his own, he doesn't know what Banica is doing to his fellows further inside. He knows about Banica's power, but he's confident because they have Michelle on their side.
Then the twins run out of the room towards Gammon, crying. He tells them to go back, and they say that Michelle has disappeared. They say that her, Gallerian, and everyone else has disappeared. They say that the blonde haired girl did it. They point to the doorway, and Riliane is standing there.
Gammon fires at Riliane, but she grows scales on her left arm and deflects the blow. Gammon tries to attack her with his sword, but she fires lightning at him with her right hand. Gammon falls. Allen calls out to her, but Riliane tells him to bow to her.
