I love how House Hightower lives rent free in TBs minds. They just cannot cope with the fact that the Hightowers not only endured the Dance, but they still remain to this day, one of the oldest and most influential houses. Whereas House Targaryen is almost extinct and is likely to end with Daeneryes dying and Jon not embracing his inner "dragon".

The attempt to keep using The Prophecy™️ as a way to justify not only the colonization of an entire continent but to also explain WHY Rhaenyra should sit on the throne…is certainly a choice.

Like generally speaking, using Manifest Destiny and the Divine Right of Kings to excuse away a culture who enslaved people and believed they were gods among men because they rode the fantasy equivalent of nukes and eventually were punished for it is not the direction I would have gone, personally.

Especially when said civil war leads to the destruction of magic and winters growing longer but hey surely the magical white people who believe in blood purity must be correct this time right?

I wanted to make a general rant about fire and blood.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the fandom forgets that we are talking about a WAR between monarchs who don't care about the consequences but rather their deeds. And within a war there is no right side, only ambitions and interests. I think that with the adaptation of the series, people forgot this fact and want to consider one side of the story as "right" when it DOESN'T exist! Both teams were horrible and selfish, they ended the lineage out of pure ambition. Rhaenyra was stupid and Aegon was reckless, both were terrible administrators who cared more about their own asses than the people. And the worst of all is seeing the fandom blame the extinction of dragons on the PEOPLE and not on the Targaryens.

They have always used their dragons as a form of threat and fear, as a path of war. You forget that those who suffer the consequences most are not the kings with their asses sitting on the throne wasting their riches, but the population, including an interesting and canonical fact is that the common people of Westeros during the war period lived on fried meat in the spit, not only rats but pigeons too.

"But they killed Joffrey, an innocent child" But weren't all those who died due to disputes over the throne also innocent? Can you imagine how CRAZY these people were? Exhaustion, anger, hatred, fear to the point of committing such an act?

Sometimes I feel like I'm reading a different book, I don't know.

Man I love Dany, I just don't want to see her on Iron Throne, tbh I don't want to see Iron throne intact for that matter but that's different point altogether. I don't want to see targs rule again it's as simple as that! Aegon conquered Westeros after almost 300 years people were done with them and rebelled. As much as I like that Targaryen phenotype, I must admit how absolutely pathetic Targaryens are without their dragons. Daemon used to get easily defeated by Cole (if we go by the books), Robert Baratheon absolutely demolished Rhaegar. Was there any Targ who was considered the best warrior without a dragon privilege?

I will never get over how some people (HBO, GoT writers, general audiences) saw the magical elements of "fire-breathing dragons" and "psychic connection with the wilder version of man's best friend" and went "we'll take the lizards, please." I don't care how hard the direwolves supposedly were to animate or if it was difficult to work with real wolves; they are the more alluring option (to me, ok?!)

It's so funny when I see a pro-Targ Team Greenie be like "I've notice that a lot Team Green people are anti-Targ and I don't get it? Team Green also are Targaryens!" Oh hun bun: Team Green has the few Targaryens that all of fandom actually understands to be the fascinating fucked-up fail-bots that all members of House Targaryen are. We are just embracing the opportunity to stan the Targs correctly i.e. half ironically and half out of pity.

The Targaryens are a mixed bag but the whole idea of supremacy and destined heroes is really criticised. The Targaryens being overthrown was a good thing! The Mad King was a tyrant!

like i love me some targaryens as much as the next person they're incredibly interesting as characters but bruh they're not heroes and most of them aren't good people. they're not magically destined to save the whole world - the majority of targaryen kings historically sucked ass as tyrants and warmongers. they're incestuous creeps. i giggle and clap and kick my little feet reading about them and seeing them on screen but idk i feel like the idea aegon saw himself as this divine conqueror set to save the world with his inbred lineage is hubris not prophecy. typically when we get prophecies in the asoiaf books they are not fulfilled, or they are fulfilled in unexpected ways. we see people destroy their whole lives and cause ruin and pain to other people because of their obsession with being the prophecised heroes (rhaegar and stannis being the biggest examples).

targaryen restoration is not meant to be a good thing in asoiaf. the fact a grossly inbred family ruled for 300 years culminating in one of them trying to blow up his entire capital city in the midst of a civil war caused by him burning people alive is not a ringing endorsement for the targaryens no matter how good of a person dany is. i agree that the last 2 seasons of got were awful but it's not JUST because the targaryen restoration didn't happen (and I sincerely hope it doesn't if the books ever finish - whether dany goes mad queen or not for me it can honestly go either way and so long as the journey getting there is well written i'll take the ending given to her). there were a lot of factors that made the end to got bad but it did not hinge on the fact the targaryens didn't get a happy ending.

rhaenyra not wanting to get married in the show and ‘do her duty’ has nothing to do with viserys ‘spoiling her’ or her being a ‘selfish brat’ but everything to do with watching her mother be forced into pregnancy over and over again, each time resulting in a dead baby and eventually DYING because of this; she views marriage as a death sentence.
